Introduction: Usage of vacuum therapy and dry needling in physical therapy management of musculoskeletal cases have gained increasing usage but there is a limited number of literatures regarding its effect. This study determines the effect size of the interventions, which are vacuotherapy and dry needling as adjunct treatment to exercises, performed in a local PT clinic to musculoskeletal cases in three different treatment sessions with a week gap in between. Methods: The study is a retrospective-cohort where sampling was purposive in gathering historical patient charts. The numerical pain rating scales and relevant range of motion in the musculoskeletal cases were collected for analysis. Results: Results showed large significant reduction in pain scale between sessions but no significant changes in all ranges of motion across different anatomically categorized musculoskeletal cases. Discussions: The results of this study imply that using vacuum therapy and dry needling as adjunct to therapeutic exercises can reduce pain intensities significantly but not ROM. Further research is recommended regarding effects of these tools for ROM and their retention of effects.

Background Ensuring patient rights is an extension of applying human rights principles to health care. A critical examination of how the notion of patient rights is perceived and enacted by various actors through critical discourse analysis (CDA) can help understand the impediments to its realization in practice. Methods We studied the discourses and discursive practices on patient rights in subnational policies and in ten health facilities in southern Karnataka, India. We conducted interviews (78), focus group discussions (3) with care-seeking individuals, care-providers, health care administrators and public health officials. We also conducted participant observation in selected health facilities and examined subnational policy documents of Karnataka pertaining to patient rights. We analyzed the qualitative data for major and minor themes. Results Patient rights discourses were not based upon human rights notions. In the context of neoliberalism, they were predominantly embedded within the logic of quality of care, economic, and consumerist perspectives. Relatively powerful actors such as care-providers and health facility administrators used a panoply of discursive strategies such as emphasizing alternate discourses and controlling discursive resources to suppress the promotion of patient rights among care-seeking individuals in health facilities. As a result, the capacity of care-seeking individuals to know and claim patient rights was restricted. With neoliberal health policies promoting austerity measures on public health care system and weak implementation of health care regulations, patient rights discourses remained subdued in health facilities in Karnataka, India. Conclusions The empirical findings on the local expression of patient rights in the discourses allowed for theoretical insights on the translation of conceptual understandings of patient rights to practice in the everyday lives of health system actors and care-seeking individuals. The CDA approach was helpful to identify the problematic aspects of discourses and discursive practices on patient rights where health facility administrators and care-providers wielded power to oppress care-seeking individuals. From the practical point of view, the study demonstrated the limitations of care-seeking individuals in the discursive realms to assert their agency as practitioners of (patient) rights in health facilities.

Stereotyping has been a part of society to generalize what we think of different groups of people and although some are harmless, stereotypes can be seen as a negative way as well. Negative stereotypes can cause a multitude of effects to a student such as to their academic performance, self-esteem, and mental well-being which can influence them to not finish their college major and fulfill their dreams and shift to a different course altogether. This study focused on the effects of negative stereotyping and sorted them into three categories, psychological, academic, and career aspects. This thesis focused on the impact of stereotyping towards the Tourism and Hospitality students among selected higher education institutions in Dasmariñas, Cavite. The research is a qualitative research, purposive and convenience sampling techniques were used to identify the participants of the study. Narrative analysis is used in order to analyze and interpret the data gathered through interview, focus group discussion, and journals. Research shows that students knew about the stereotype and experienced it even before starting their college life. Although the stereotypes and discrimination somewhat affected the students at first, it was shown that the effect of stereotyping made them stronger and it didn’t let it stop them. Therefore, we the researchers conclude that most of the students managed to cope with the effects of stereotyping caused by different people they have interacted with. The researchers proposed that the colleges should have a course encouragement seminar to motivate their student’s to help them cope with the stereotypes. This study aims to identify the relationship between the grade 12 senior high school students’ conception of learning biology and their self-regulated learning strategies and the impact of these variables on the academic performance of the students. Two sets of questionnaires - the Conception of Learning Biology questionnaire and the Self-Regulated Learning Strategies questionnaire - were administered to students in the different public secondary schools in Cebu City whose schools offered Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand in the Senior High School curriculum. This research used exploratory factor analysis to analyze the data. The results reveal that there is a significant positive relationship among all the variables in the conception of learning biology and all factors in self-regulated strategies of senior high school students. The data further reveal that there is a significant positive relationship between the students’ academic performance and one of the factors of selfregulated learning strategies. The results of the study have implications on the teaching of biology particularly on understanding student’s conception of learning and their self-regulated learning strategies in order to achieve better academic outcomes. It is recommended for teachers to make necessary interventions in order to encourage students to develop advanced order conceptions of learning and higher order self-regulated learning strategies that would help them attain high academic performance.
