Hemolysis of the sample is a common problem that occurs after blood sampling. The release of hemoglobin in the blood sample changes its colorimetric properties. Present hemoglobin interferes with other biochemical parameters which are determined by colorimetric reaction. In this paper we examined 40 blood samples taken from cows in early lactation. In a sample of 20 cows was no hemolysis, while the samples of 20 cows were hemolyzed. All samples were transported in a stable temperature condition. Heparin was used as anticoagulant. Regression analysis was performed and the correlation between the hemoglobin concentration and the MCHC value (which is an indication of the existence of hemolysis) and blood parameters: glucose, NEFA, BHB, albumin, total protein, urea, AST, ALT, LDH, CK, bilirubin, cholesterol, triglycerides, Na, K, Mg, Ca. The results show that there was no significant difference between the values of the blood biochemical parameters in samples with hemolysis and control samples (there was tendency to increase of albumin, ALT and AST, ot decrease of CK, Ca and Mg in hemolised sample). There was no significant correlation between the degree of hemolysis and values of biochemical parameters (except hemoglobin:albumin and CK, MCHC:ALP and Mg). Regression analysis showed that for each unit of hemoglobin and/or MCHC there was change of glucose, AST, ALT, ALP, LDH, CK, Mg, Ca and bilirubin concentration (for more than 20%), while the other parameters showed slight changes at the level below 5%. The hemolysis in the sample could complicate the analysis of the metabolic profile of cows, but its effect is minimal if the sample is transported in a stable temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Investigation of the metabolic status of cows in early lactation is the most important measure in assessing the health and productivity of cattle. Today, the analysis of metabolites, hormones and blood in the early lactation can be largely predicted health risk and of cows productivity. The daily work of veterinarians are available to a large number of markers in the blood that indicate the energy balance (NEFA, BHB, glucose), the balance of proteins (albumin, total protein, urea), the balance of ions (Ca, P, Mg), inflammatory response (blood pictures, inflammatory proteins), oxidative status (SOD, MDA), status of the liver (bilirubin, AST, ALT), hormonal (insulin, cortisol, IGF-I, STH, T3, T4) and hematology finding. In addition to the assessment of the metabolic status must be considered body condition of the cows and the amount of milk production. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between these parameters and to determine what parameters by whose determination can be seen overall metabolic status of cows. In this way we will make the extraction of information from large amounts of data, so we will focus only on those elements of the metabolic and endocrine profile that has the most reliable to describe the metabolic status of cows . In this way we will make the rationalization of laboratory testing metabolism cows. Blood was taken from 50 cows of the Holstein - Friesian breed. The concentration of the above- mentioned parameters were determined. They are made of the correlation matrix and then by extraction of the main factors using factor analysis. The results show that the extract may by three main factors. Factor 1 explains 61.7% of the variation, and it highly correlates with the values of insulin, IGF-I, STH, NEFA and glucose (metabolic stress). Factor 2 explains 20.2% of variation and on highly correlated with the BHB, AST, triglycerides and cholesterol (a liver). Background and objectives: In patients on hemodialysis, erectile dysfunction is an independent mortality factor. This study aimed to determine the risk factors that affect the survival of hemodialysis patients with erectile dysfunction. Materials and Methods: During a seven-year period, erectile dysfunction was identified among the fatalities reported in patients receiving chronic hemodialysis, on the basis of the International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire. The study covered 70 patients of mean age 57 ± 6.7 years. During the examined period, 42 (60%) patients died at the mean age 57 ± 6.8 years. The study was completed by 28 (40%) patients, aged 57 ± 6.55 years. Laboratory, demographic, anthropometric, and clinical characteristics were recorded using standard methods. Results: Statistically significant differences between the two groups of respondents were found concerning dialysis duration ( p < 0.001), number of leukocytes ( p = 0.003), adequacy of hemodialysis ( p = 0.004), intima media thickness of the carotid artery ( p < 0.001), presence of cardiovascular disease ( p = 0.03), residual diuresis ( p = 0.04), and hemodiafiltration ( p < 0.001). Hemodialysis adequacy (B = -9.634; p = 0.017), intima media thickness (B = 0.022; p = 0.003), residual diuresis (B = -0.060; p = 0.007), and lower rates of cardiovascular disease (B = 0.176; p = 0.034) were significant survival predictors among our patients with erectile dysfunction. Conclusions: Risk factors that are associated with improved survival of patients on hemodialysis with erectile dysfunction in our study are: preserved diuresis, high-quality hemodialysis, lower incidence of cardiovascular disease, and less thickening of the intima media of the carotid arteries.

This study aimed to assess the impact of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) vs. moderate-intensity continuous training (MIT) on cardiodynamic parameters in isolated rat heart. Wistar albino rats were randomly assigned to groups according to running protocol: sedentary control, MIT, and HIIT; spontaneous hypertensive rat (SHR) sedentary control, SHR + MIT, and SHR + HIIT. HIIT groups performed the running in 5 sprints × 45-55 m/min for 30-90 s, with 2 min of rest after each sprint, while MIT groups performed the running of 10-15 m/min for 1 h with 3 min of rest every 100 m; both protocols were implemented 5 days/week over 4 weeks with 1 week of adaptation before protocols started. Isolated rat hearts were perfused according to Langendorff technique at gradually increased coronary perfusion pressures (40-120 cmH 2 O). Using a sensor placed in the left ventricle, we registered maximum and minimum rate of pressure development in the left ventricle, systolic and diastolic left ventricular pressure, and heart rate. Coronary flow was measured flowmetrically. MIT was connected with cardiac depression in normotensive conditions, while HIIT leads to cardiac depression in hypertensive rats. HIIT induced more significant increase of contractile and relaxation parameters of the isolated rat heart, especially in hypertensive animals.

Background: Forestier's disease is a rare disorder involving bony growths that can occur in various parts of the spinal column, mostly asymptomatic, but these osteophytes, very rarely have been associated with serious complications., Aim: We report a 69-year-old man who was admitted at foniatric departement for evaluation of presenting hoarseness, dysphagia and laborious breathing., Case Presentation: Noninvasive endolaryngeal imaging and radiological examination revealed distortion of left side of the larynx pushing to the right due to bony mass of the anterior part of cervical spine which was prominent at the left side. The symptoms of the patient presented were caused by Forestier's disease as found by the imiging., Conclusions: In clinical practice it is advisable to take into consideration Forestier's disease as a possible cause of hoarseness and dysphagia in rare cases.

Purpose: To define demographic characteristics of patients with laryngeal cancer in central Serbia, and to investigate possible relationships between their socioeconomical status and the appearance of laryngeal cancer., Methods: 100 patients (cases) with histologically verified laryngeal cancer were investigated. The control group consisted of 100 patients (controls) having no cancer. A questionnaire was filled in by both cases and controls and comparison between the groups was carried out by individual matching of demographic characteristics and socioeconomical status., Results: 91% of the cases and controls were male (mean age 60 years). Most of the cases had lower educational level and poorer socioeconomical status compared to controls, whilst no difference was found between the 2 groups concerning their living in urban or rural environment., Conclusion: It was not possible to correlate urban environment (air pollution) as risk factor. People of lower educational level and poor socioeconomical status had increased risk of getting laryngeal cancer.
