Purpose: The emission of greenhouse gases has become an increasingly relevant topic in supply chain management. The steel industry is a highly intensive manufacturing industry with significant emission levels, particularly Scope 3 emissions, which are the indirect emissions from suppliers. Since a supply chain is seen as a non-mandatory measurement item within GHG measurement protocols, this article contributes to the literature on assessing the suppliers of a focal company relative to their emissions for complying with Scope 3 (indirect emissions). It adds to the evolving literature on low-carbon supply chains. Design/methodology/approach: This study first conducted a survey with 110 suppliers from a focal transnational buyer company. A cluster analysis was performed, and ANOVA compared constructs relating to public or private ownership and country of origin. Finally, regression tested the relationship between the motivators and governance in the mitigation strategies. Findings: Using cluster analysis, two groups of companies were found that have statistically significant differences. The influence of the country of origin was also found in relation to governance and mitigation strategies, as was the influence of the type of company on governance. Furthermore, the more motivated the suppliers and the more governance measures they adopt, the more companies adopt their own GHG mitigation strategies. These findings are summarized by way of an analytical framework that integrates the constructs with empirical evidence. Originality/value: The steel industry is a sector that is particularly energy-intensive and produces millions of tons of CO
2 per year. Emissions from its SC (Scope 3) are relevant but still seen as a non-mandatory item for measurement purposes within the GHG measurement protocols, which leads to less attention being paid to the subject. This study contributes by way of its analytical framework that is validated by empirical data that can be tested in further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
This teaching case presents the dilemma of SA Schmitt Alumínios, which is facing difficulties in purchasing aluminum due to high prices. After evaluating the importation process, the partners are divided on whether to accept the alternative. Therefore, is it worth the strain on their relationship? To import or not to import? In constructing the case, primary sources were utilized, including interviews with the company's founding partners and the spouse of one of the partners, along with secondary sources such as articles, books, legislation, among others. The company's name and the partners' names remained unchanged throughout the case. This original and unprecedented case serves as a platform for the class to understand importation processes and propose the best alternatives for a safer and more cost-effective importation. The class is expected to make informed decisions by analyzing the proposed alternatives with analytical sense, ultimately leading to a more accurate decision., Este caso para ensino apresenta o dilema da SA Schmitt Alumínios, que sofre com a dificuldade na compra do alumínio devido às altas no preço.

- Abstract
This study analyses the growing movement of investors leaving fixed income and moving to the variable income market, many of them use simple techniques such as Moving Average Convergence-Divergence (MACD) and sometimes choose assets with little volatility because, empirically, they see them as “safer”. The purpose of the study is to estimate the relationship between the level of an asset's volatility and the efficiency of the MACD instrument. To achieve the objective, a descriptive analysis was performed - with a documentary collection, and quantitative analysis - through Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). We searched for companies that make up a given stock exchange index, dividing them into two groups: the 20% more volatile and the 20% less volatile. Simulations of purchases and sales were carried out to identify the returns obtained. It is possible to identify that the group of the most volatile assets obtained results - profit - exponentially better than the other, thus achieving the theoretical and empirical contribution of the technical rules of trading, especially via graphical analysis and use of the MACD instrument. Above all, it proved that the relationship has predictive capacity in Brazil. The results of the study support the use of techniques, which promote surplus returns in a practical way for investors. Evidence was found of the existence of a relationship between the intensity of volatility and the efficiency of the MACD.

- Abstract
This study intends to further expand the research on the connection between word-of-mouth (WOM) and customer loyalty, observing the effect of action loyalty on WOM of e-consumer in a cross-country analysis, between Brazilians and Swedes. We use a quantitative method by collecting answers from a survey, with consumers living in Sweden and in Brazil. The hypotheses test was realized by regression analysis. Although the countries surveyed have different stages of industrialization and economic development, each with unique characteristics in relation to their national cultures, there is no evidence of differences on WOM in the moderating effect of action loyalty. The main contribution of this study is the development and analysis of the effect of loyalty on WOM and the respective difference between Brazil and Sweden. The results are useful for retail professionals to focus their resources on WOM among customers who have a personal connection with each other, in order to gain customer loyalty. Thus, this work represents a new empirical contribution to the WOM field, mainly due to the approach being in online consumers, and to customer loyalty, specifically as the loyalty to the action (behavior) displayed by the customers., This study intends to further expand the research on the connection between word-of-mouth (WOM) and customer loyalty, observing the effect of action loyalty on WOM of e-consumer in Este estudo pretende ampliar as pesquisas sobre a conexão entre boca a boca (WOM) e fidelização de clientes, observando o efeito da lealdade de ação sobre o WOM do consumidor online, em uma análise entre brasileiros e suecos. This teaching case presents the narrative of the acquisition of XP Investimentos by Itaú Unibanco. The bank offered to buy XP Investimentos. This movement occurred shortly before the broker asked to register for its IPO (Initial Offering of Shares, acronym in English) on the Brazilian stock exchange (B3). The objective of the study is to encourage discussions of the acquisition operation for the themes of governance structure and the theory of transaction costs amid technological innovation in the Brazilian financial market. On the XP side, the plan was clear: in one stroke, stay with the asset and eliminate a competitor, and now you can not only dream of being the largest investment group in Brazil. For Itaú Unibanco - the largest player in the market - it now has the XP portfolio ready and eliminates a competitor that took its market share. The case indicates discussions about the logic behind Itaú Unibanco’s acquisition of XP. Still, it allows asking whether the largest bank in Brazil would not be able to develop such capacities acquired from the broker, in addition to questioning whether XP’s internalized capacities are so valuable to the point of such investment.

This teaching case contextualizes the evolution and transformation of the Brazilian Financial System, with emphasis on the growth of the fintechs (technology-based financial companies)and the rupture of the moment of “quiet” of the big banks. With the emergence of Fintechs, the market share of major banks is threatened. The purpose of this case is to discuss the competitive market strategies of banks and Fintechs in the face of possible future scenarios, in particular, to analyze fintech strategies with a focus on corporate political activities in the form of influencing government, regulation and the System National Bank to gain access to the market. The case also allows us to evaluate the integration of market and non-market strategies, acting in the face of common interest, between fintechs and large banks. This is a real case within the Brazilian context. It can be used in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Administration, Accounting, Economics, and Management. It can also be used in complementary courses, short courses or executive education, in subjects such as Government Relations and Institutional Relations and Nonmarket Strategy.

- Abstract
This article analyzes 18 years (2000-2017) of publications on Mergers and Acquisitions of Higher Education Institutions around the world. The bibliometric survey found one hundred and eighty-seven articles whose focus was the intersection of these themes. Once the filters were applied, the final sample had fifty-two articles. Among the main findings obtained with the analysis of these fifty-two articles, it is observed that there is a predominance of qualitative researches and without the occurrence of publication whose theoretical basis is based on the Theory of Firm Growth. Most of the articles found have their roots in economics and education. The lack of research on Mergers and Acquisitions in the subsector of higher education reveals an excellent contribution of this article, since it brings an unexplored and relevant prism to this type of phenomenon. In the last ten years, in Brazil alone, more than two hundred mergers and acquisitions of higher education institutions occurred. The expected theoretical and empirical contribution to the results presented here is to foster future research on M & E in the higher education sector in light of Penrose's Theory of Firm Growth (1959). In addition, this article also aims to demonstrate the importance of the production of quantitative articles to test hypotheses related to mergers and acquisitions, mainly studies that can analyze significant samples within the national universe and that use variables other than those related to financial performance., Este artigo analisa 18 anos (2000-2017) de publicações sobre Fusões e Aquisições de Instituições de Ensino Superior ao redor do mundo.

- Abstract
This teaching case relates the dilemma of Woodstock, a manufacturer of wooden doors. Its main consumer market is in the United States of America. The company, over the years, has shown ups and downs in production and the need to predict market behavior only increases. Predicting the consumption of doors helps to have greater regularity in the cash flow and, consequently, in production. The case was developed to provide students of international trade and statistics the basis for discussions about the efficiency of using secondary statistical data in sales forecasting and to provide greater regularity throughout a company's operating system. Students are expected to have a critical sense of using statistical data and also look inside the organization to take advantage of available resources to achieve sales and production goals. It is recommended to use in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, especially in the subjects of Internationalization of Companies, Statistics, Foreign Trade and other disciplines that evoke the subject of sales predictability and statistics. RISK perception , *COGNITIVE bias , *SMALL business , *BUSINESSPEOPLE , *JUDGMENT (Psychology) , *STRUCTURAL equation modeling - Abstract
This article describes research conducted to determine which variables influence the opportunity evaluation by emerging market entrepreneurs. The study was conducted with quantitative research techniques, using data from 124 entrepreneurs in micro and small Brazilian enterprises. Hypotheses were tested with confirmatory analyses and using Structural Equations Modelling. According to previous research, results demonstrated that the smaller the perceived risk, the more positively the entrepreneurs will evaluate opportunities, affecting their propensity to act. However, the results of tests to measure correlations between the occurrence of cognitive biases and other variables were not significant, contradicting previous work that has stated that correlations exist. The findings support the concept that variables ignored when analysing our decision-making process are relevant to the result of our decisions. Besides, they may result in inconsistent illusions that can lead the decision-maker into unwarranted confidence in their capacity to understand whether an assessment of opportunity, which is inherent to the entrepreneurial process, is truly an opportunity or an illusion.
