This paper aims to examine and reflect on the relationship between mobility, climate emergency and street art in Lisbon, adopting an interdisciplinary approach. Based on the new paradigm of mobility, we seek to establish the relevance of urban artistic expressions as an arena for public discussion in the city, while taking their ephemeral and (im)mobile, legal and illegal character as the analytical baseline. Analyzing the impact of mobility, especially that of the automobile, the text presents questions related to the climate in the city of Lisbon and how street art has been related to mobility, how it reflects the climate emergency and how it outlines a depletion of contemporary ways of life and the desire for other worlds., Ce travail vise à examiner et à réfléchir sur les relations entre mobilité, urgence climatique et street art à Lisbonne, en adoptant une approche interdisciplinaire. En nous basant sur le nouveau paradigme de la mobilité, nous cherchons à établir la pertinence des expressions artistiques urbaines comme arène de débat public dans la ville, tout en utilisant leur caractère éphémère et (im)mobile, légal et illégal comme axe d'analyse. Analysant l'impact de la mobilité, notamment celle de l'automobile, le texte présente des questions liées au climat dans la ville de Lisbonne et comment le street art s'est lié à la mobilité, comment il reflète l'urgence climatique et comment il dessine un épuisement des modes de vie. contemporains et le désir d’autres mondes., O presente trabalho pretende examinar e refletir sobre as relações entre mobilidade, emergência climática e street art em Lisboa, adotando uma abordagem interdisciplinar. A partir do novo paradigma da mobilidade, procuramos estabelecer a relevância das expressões urbanas artísticas como arena de discussão pública na cidade, enquanto utilizamos como eixo de análise seu caráter efêmero e (i)móvel, legal e ilegal. Analisando o impacto das mobilidades, em especial a do automóvel, o texto apresenta questões relativas ao clima na cidade de Lisboa e de como a street art tem se relacionado com as mobilidades, como refletem a emergência climática e como esboçam um esgotamento de modos de vida contemporâneos e o desejo por outros mundos., Este trabajo tiene como objetivo examinar y reflexionar sobre las relaciones entre movilidad, emergencia climática y arte callejero en Lisboa, adoptando un enfoque interdisciplinario. A partir del nuevo paradigma de movilidad, buscamos establecer la relevancia de las expresiones artísticas urbanas como espacio de discusión pública en la ciudad, utilizando como eje de análisis su carácter efímero y (in)móvil, legal e ilegal. Analizando el impacto de la movilidad, especialmente la del automóvil, el texto presenta cuestiones relativas al clima en la ciudad de Lisboa y cómo el arte callejero se ha relacionado con la movilidad, cómo refleja la emergencia climática y cómo perfila un agotamiento de los modos de vida. contemporáneos y el deseo de otros mundos.

Southern European cities face the challenges associated with the recent emergence of the formal and informal economies of the ‘Tourist City’ and are the scenario for diverse social tensions. Local protests against these changes, sometimes discredited as NIMBY –Not In My Backyard– have led to conflicts with visitors and local public administrations. However, fuzzy definitions of the groups organising these protests are often found in the literature, as well as regarding the previous urban conditions for and the impacts of their actions. This paper presents a comparative analysis of the protests in the Portuguese neighbourhood of Bairro Alto (Lisbon) and the Spanish neighbourhood of La Latina (Madrid), in order to explore how moral ownership and ‘belonging narratives’ around places are variously put into play to legitimise and/or contest urban changes. We also reflect on the benefits and perils of building strong local identities versus the contemporary global tourism that flows into Southern European cities., Las ciudades del sur de Europa se enfrentan a los retos asociados a la reciente aparición de las economías formales e informales de la “ciudad turística” y son escenario de diversas tensiones sociales. Las protestas locales contra estos cambios, a veces desacreditadas como NIMBY –Not In My Backyard– han provocado conflictos con los visitantes y las administraciones públicas locales. Sin embargo, en la literatura se encuentran a menudo definiciones difusas de los grupos que organizan estas protestas, así como de las condiciones urbanas previas para sus acciones y de los impactos de las mismas. Este artículo presenta un análisis comparativo de las protestas en el barrio portugués de Bairro Alto (Lisboa) y en el barrio español de La Latina (Madrid), con el fin de explorar cómo la apropiación moral y las “narrativas de pertenencia” en torno a los lugares se ponen en juego de forma diversa para legitimar y/o impugnar los cambios urbanos. También reflexionamos sobre los beneficios y los peligros de construir identidades locales fuertes frente al turismo global contemporáneo que llega a las ciudades del sur de Europa.

This article enriches the existing literature on the importance and role of the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in renewable energy sources research by providing a novel approach to instigating the future research agenda in this field. Employing a series of in-depth interviews, deliberative focus group workshops and a systematic horizon scanning process, which utilised the expert knowledge of 85 researchers from the field with diverse disciplinary backgrounds and expertise, the paper develops a set of 100 priority questions for future research within SSH scholarship on renewable energy sources. These questions were aggregated into four main directions: (i) deep transformations and connections to the broader economic system (i.e. radical ways of (re)arranging socio-technical, political and economic relations), (ii) cultural and geographical diversity (i.e. contextual cultural, historical, political and socio-economic factors influencing citizen support for energy transitions), (iii) complexifying energy governance (i.e. understanding energy systems from a systems dynamics perspective) and (iv) shifting from instrumental acceptance to value-based objectives (i.e. public support for energy transitions as a normative notion linked to trust-building and citizen engagement). While this agenda is not intended to be—and cannot be—exhaustive or exclusive, we argue that it advances the understanding of SSH research on renewable energy sources and may have important value in the prioritisation of SSH themes needed to enrich dialogues between policymakers, funding institutions and researchers. SSH scholarship should not be treated as instrumental to other research on renewable energy but as intrinsic and of the same hierarchical importance.
