This study analysed the relationship between the level of stress and the quality of life of women with breast cancer, considering different levels of physical activity. The participants were 54 women between 20 and 59 years old who were undergoing treatment or completed treatment within 24 months from the Centre for Integrative Health in the city of Rio de Janeiro/RJ. Physical activity level, stress level and quality of life were evaluated. Data analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with tests to assess the parametric qualities of the variables, in addition to tests for comparing means and association. The participants showed a level of physical activity between very active and inactive, where half of the women interviewed showed physical inactivity. Regarding the level of stress, the women obtained an average on the scale of 19,0±3,6 e 18,5±4,0 regardless of physical activity level. Stress and quality of life scores were not affected by physical activity level. Conclusion: Women with breast cancer had high stress symptoms, a frequent characteristic as a result of the pathology symptoms and exposure to treatment. Therefore, it is necessary to incorporate changes in lifestyle with the aim of reducing stress and, consequently, improving quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

19. Using machine learning to understand microgeographic determinants of the Zika vector, Aedes aegypti

There are limited data on why the 2016 Zika outbreak in Miami-Dade County, Florida was confined to certain neighborhoods. In this research, Aedes aegypti, the primary vector of Zika virus, are studied to examine neighborhood-level differences in their population dynamics and underlying processes. Weekly mosquito data were acquired from the Miami-Dade County Mosquito Control Division from 2016 to 2020 from 172 traps deployed around Miami-Dade County. Using Random Forest, a machine learning method, predictive models of spatiotemporal dynamics of Ae. aegypti in response to meteorological conditions and neighborhood-specific socio-demographic and physical characteristics, such as land-use and land-cover type and income level, were created. The study area was divided into two groups: areas affected by local transmission of Zika during the 2016 outbreak and unaffected areas. Aedes aegypti populations in areas affected by Zika were more strongly influenced by 14- and 21-day lagged weather conditions. In the unaffected areas, mosquito populations were more strongly influenced by land-use and day-of-collection weather conditions. There are neighborhood-scale differences in Ae. aegypti population dynamics. These differences in turn influence vector-borne disease diffusion in a region. These results have implications for vector control experts to lead neighborhood-specific vector control strategies and for epidemiologists to guide vector-borne disease risk preparations, especially for containing the spread of vector-borne disease in response to ongoing climate change.

This article presents some of the current equations and effects of the so-called Restorative Justice (RJ) in children and young people. Firstly, it questions how the selectivity of the penal system operates in the continuum produced by RJ, which articulates the prevention of conflicts and new penalties, moving between Childhood and Youth Courts, schools, neighborhoods, and communities in favor of the construction of safe environments. Secondly, the article focuses on United Nations (UN) guidelines on RJ in Brazil. Once the UN human development approach establishes that investments in human capital must be applied from childhood, also through the promotion of resilience and combating so-called vulnerabilities - key concepts for the restorative methodology as formulated by the UN -, the article discusses the extent to which this RJ format is aligned with the neoliberal rationality based on a security approach to life. Este artículo presenta algunas de las ecuaciones y efectos actuales de la llamada Justicia Restaurativa (JR) en niños y jóvenes. En primer lugar, cuestiona cómo opera la selectividad del sistema penal en el continuo producido por RJ, que articula la prevención de conflictos y nuevas penas, moviéndose entre Juzgados de Niñez y Juventud, escuelas, barrios y comunidades a favor de la construcción de ambientes seguros. . En segundo lugar, el artículo se centra en las directrices de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) sobre la justicia comunitaria en Brasil. Una vez que el desarrollo humano de la ONU establece que las inversiones en capital humano deben aplicarse desde la niñez, también a través de la promoción de la resiliencia y el combate a las llamadas vulnerabilidades - conceptos clave para la metodología restaurativa que busca la ONU -, el artículo discute en qué medida este formato de RJ está alineado con la racionalidad neoliberal basada en un enfoque de seguridad para la vida. O presente artigo tratará de alguns dos atuais equacionamentos e efeitos da chamada Justiça Restaurativa (JR) em crianças e jovens. Em primeiro lugar, questiona-se como opera a seletividade do sistema penal no contínuo produzido pela JR, que articula a prevenção de conflitos e novas penalizações, transitando entre Varas da Infância e da Juventude, escolas, bairros e comunidades em prol da construção de ambientes seguros. Em segundo lugar, o artigo se concentra nas diretrizes da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) sobre a JR no Brasil. Uma vez que a abordagem do desenvolvimento humano da ONU estabelece que os investimentos em capital humano devem ser aplicados desde a infância, também por meio da promoção de resiliência e do combate às chamadas vulnerabilidades – conceitos-chave para a metodologia restaurativa conforme formulada pela ONU –, problematiza-se em que medida este formato de JR apresenta-se em consonância com a racionalidade neoliberal assentada em uma abordagem securitária de vida.

Formas químicas de controle de mosquitos vetores são ineficazes, levando ao desenvolvimento de novas estratégias. Assim, foi realizada revisão das estratégias de controle genético de populações de mosquitos vetores baseada na técnica do inseto estéril. Uma delas consiste na liberação de machos esterilizados por radiação, a outra, na integração de um gene letal dominante associado a um promotor específico de fêmeas imaturas. Entre as vantagens sobre outras técnicas biológicas e químicas de controle de vetores estão: alta especificidade, não prejudicial ao meio ambiente, baixo custo de produção e alta eficácia. O uso desta técnica de modificação genética pode vir a ser uma importante ferramenta do manejo integrado de vetores.Formas químicas de control de mosquitos vectores son ineficaces, llevando al desarrollo de nuevas estrategias. Así, fue realizada revisión de las estrategias de control genético de poblaciones de mosquitos vectores basada en la técnica del insecto estéril. Una de ellas consiste en la liberación de machos esterilizados por radiación, la otra, en la integración de un gen letal dominante asociado a un promotor específico de hembras inmaduras. Entre las ventajas sobre otras técnicas biológicas y químicas de control de vectores están: la alta especificidad, no prejudicial al ambiente, bajo costo de producción y alta eficiencia. El uso de esta técnica de modificación genética puede ser una importante herramienta del manejo integrado de vectores.The ineffectiveness of current strategies for chemical control of mosquito vectors raises the need for developing novel approaches. Thus, we carried out a literature review of strategies for genetic control of mosquito populations based on the sterile insect technique. One of these strategies consists of releasing radiation-sterilized males into the population; another, of integrating a dominant lethal gene under the control of a specific promoter into immature females. Advantages of these approaches over other biological and chemical control strategies include: highly species-specific, environmentally safety, low production cost, and high efficacy. The use of this genetic modification technique will constitute an important tool for integrated vector management.

Objective A review article was carried out, addressing the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of immune system deficiencies, which are associated with or predispose to recurrent infectious processes, autoimmune diseases, auto inflammatory diseases, or neoplasms, and which are classified as inborn errors of immunity (IEI) and secondary immunodeficiencies (SID). Emphasis was placed on the classification of the main signs and symptoms for each organ and system, which will serve as warning signs, to guide the pediatrician in the investigation of the main IEI. In addition, the main secondary changes in the immune system triggered by infections (with emphasis on COVID-19), drugs, chronic diseases, metabolic and nutritional disorders were identified. Sources of data This review included articles published in the last five years and that were identified in the MEDLINE platform (PubMed). Summary of findings The recurrence of infectious processes, associated with the severity of the condition and/or unusual profile of the infectious agent, always related to the age range of symptom onset, are the most important findings for suspected diagnosis. Conclusions Considering this scenario, immunity disorders should be part of the investigation carried out by the general pediatrician, whether they are the innate errors of immunity (primary immunodeficiencies) or secondary immunodeficiencies, so that the diagnosis is attained as early as possible and therapeutic measures are implemented, reducing the morbidity and mortality of these patients.

Fundação de Apoio a Pesquisa e à Inovação Tecnológica do Estado de Sergipe - FAPITEC/SE Fog Computing represents a change in the use and architecture of the Internet of Things combined with Cloud Computing, where ubiquitous devices with different levels of autonomy and needs go through intelligent gateways capable of providing flexible resources and services to end-users at the edge of the network. Due to the proposed breadth and heterogeneity of technologies and “objects” in the Internet of things, their direct interconnection with the cloud becomes impractical for some types of applications, among them, some aimed at intelligent environments, making it necessary the interference of a new paradigm capable of meeting such needs. Thus, motivated by the number of open questions and because it is a current topic, this research work demonstrates the capacity of the virtualized fog computing architecture (VFCA), developed and implemented, to provide resource management, QoS, and support to contracts of service level agreement (SLA). The experiments carried out in a real environment, validate the advantages of VFCA concerning the conventional cloud through results such as efficiency in communication (where AFCV surpassed the cloud by 52.97% with the UDP protocol and 79.72% with TCP), bandwidth, among others. This research work fills gaps related to fog computing and makes it possible to guarantee and provide services capable of being implemented in smart environments (such smart home), as well as helping to develop business models aimed at it. A Fog Computing representa uma mudança no uso e na arquitetura da Internet das coisas combinada com a computação em nuvem, onde dispositivos ubíquos com diferentes níveis de autonomia e necessidades passam por gateways inteligentes capazes de fornecer recursos e serviços flexíveis para os usuários finais na borda da rede. Em função da amplitude proposta e heterogeneidade de tecnologias e “objetos” na Internet das coisas, sua interligação direta com a nuvem torna-se impraticável para alguns tipos de aplicações, dentre elas, algumas voltadas para ambientes inteligentes, fazendo necessária a interferência de um novo paradigma capaz de suprir tais necessidades. Dessa forma, motivada pela quantidade de questões em aberto e por ser um tema atual, esta dissertação demonstra a capacidade da arquitetura de fog computing virtualizada (AFCV), desenvolvida e implementada, para prover o gerenciamento de recursos, QoS e auxiliar contratos de acordo de nível de serviço (SLA). Os experimentos realizados em ambiente real, validam as vantagens da AFCV em relação à nuvem convencional por meio de resultados como a eficiência na comunicação (onde a AFCV superou a nuvem em 52,97% com o protocolo UDP e em 79,72% o TCP), largura de banda, entre outros. - Abstract
Reported COVID-19 deaths in Germany are relatively low as compared to many European countries. Among the several explanations proposed, an early and large testing of the population was put forward. Most current debates on COVID-19 focus on the differences among countries, but little attention has been given to regional differences and diet. The low-death rate European countries (e.g. Austria, Baltic States, Czech Republic, Finland, Norway, Poland, Slovakia) have used different quarantine and/or confinement times and methods and none have performed as many early tests as Germany. Among other factors that may be significant are the dietary habits. It seems that some foods largely used in these countries may reduce angiotensin-converting enzyme activity or are anti-oxidants. Among the many possible areas of research, it might be important to understand diet and angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) levels in populations with different COVID-19 death rates since dietary interventions may be of great benefit.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of the type and concentration of photo-initiator on the long-term bonding efficacy to dentin in terms of mini-interfacial fracture toughness (mini-iFT). Materials and Methods: The bonding efficacy of the one-step self-etch (SE) adhesive Clearfil S
3 Bond Plus and four derivative experimental adhesives (Leuven University Bond [LUB]), which were similar in composition except for the (co)photo-initiators (all prepared by Kuraray Noritake), containing 2.0 wt% camphorquinone (CQ) and 2.0 wt% EDMAB (LUB-CQ/amine_high), 0.35 wt% CQ and 0.35 wt% EDMAB (LUB-CQ/amine_low ), 2.0 wt% TPO (LUB-TPO_high), and 0.35 wt% TPO (LUB-TPO_low), was measured using a mini-iFT approach after being aged for 6 months and 1 year by water storage at 37°C (control: 1 week mini-iFT). The mini-iFT specimens were loaded until failure in a 4-point bending device to determine the interfacial fracture toughness (Klc ). All fractured specimens were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The mini-iFT of Clearfil S3 Bond Plus and the adhesives with high photo-initiator concentrations was not significantly different at 6 months, although it dropped significantly at 1 year. For each storage period, the mini-iFT of the adhesives with high photo-initiator concentrations was not significantly different from that of the commercial adhesive, in contrast to the significantly lower mini-iFT measured for adhesives with low concentrations of photo-initiator. SEM fracture analysis revealed that the adhesives with high concentrations of photo-initiator most frequently failed at the top of the hybrid layer at 1 week, while this failure pattern shifted to the bottom of the hybrid layer after aging. Conclusion: A one-step self-etch adhesive should contain photo-initiator in a sufficiently high concentration, as this directly improves its immediate and long-term bonding efficacy to dentin. While the mini-iFT remained stable up to 6 month of aging for both the commercial and the adhesive with a high concentration of photo-initiator, the mini-iFT was found to decrease after 1 year of aging. Resumo Atualmente, admite-se a insuficiência da avaliação de projetos baseada em restrições de escopo, prazo e custo para assegurar a criação de valor pela organização. Apesar disto, essa métrica continua sendo, muitas vezes, a única utilizada para avaliar o sucesso dos projetos. Neste artigo, a partir de referências teóricas, analisa-se como algumas empresas nacionais e multinacionais gerenciam a criação de valor por suas carteiras de projetos de Tecnologia da Informação (TI). Busca-se entender os processos utilizados, bem como identificar os principais desafios encontrados pelas organizações pesquisadas. Para atingir esse objetivo, foi utilizada uma abordagem exploratória qualitativa baseada em entrevistas semiestruturadas com gestores de portfólios de TI de 14 organizações brasileiras de diversos segmentos e portes. A pesquisa indicou oportunidades de melhoria e mostrou que poucas são as organizações que avaliam de forma efetiva a criação de valor por seus projetos, prevalecendo uma visão de desempenho não alinhada aos resultados corporativos alcançados e que não colabora com o processo de melhoria e aprendizagem organizacional. Abstract Nowadays, it has been acknowledged that there is an insufficiency of projects assessment based on scope, time and cost restrictions to ensure the organization’s creation of value. Despite that, this metric keeps being used and, quite often, it is the only one used to assess the project’s success. This study is based on theoretical references to analyze how some Brazilian and multinational organizations manage the creation of value through their Information Technology (IT) project portfolios. This work aims to understand the processes used and identify the main challenges faced by those organizations. To achieve this goal, an exploratory qualitative approach was used, based on semi-structured interviews with IT portfolio managers from 14 companies of several segments and sizes. The research indicated improvement opportunities and showed that few companies effectively assessed the value generation of their projects, prevailing a perspective of dissonant assessment procedures from corporate results, which does not contribute to the organizational improvement and learning process.

Purpose: To study the biomechanical behavior of extensively restored premolars by determining the effect of the composite type, presence of cusp weakening, and compressive loading on the cusp deformation (CD), marginal integrity (Ml), and fracture resistance (FR) of directly restored premolars. Materials and Methods: Forty premolars received Class II mesio-occlusal-distal (MOD) cavities and were divided into 4 groups (n = 10) in accordance with the two study variables: composite type (conventional: Filtek Z250 XT [Z250], 3M ESPE; low shrinkage: Venus Diamond [VD], Fleraeus-Kulzer) and the presence of cusp weakening (with/without). Cusp deformation upon restoration was assessed using strain gauges during the restorative procedure and thereafter when the restorations were subjected to an occlusal load of 100 N. The samples were subjected to thermal and mechanical cycling. Epoxy resin replicas of the proximal tooth/restoration interfaces were made to analyze the marginal integrity (Ml) using scanning electron microscopy. To determine the fracture resistance (FR), the teeth were loaded at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min until fracture. Results: The conventional composite Z250 had higher CD, lower Ml, and lower FR than the low-shrinkage composite VD. Cusp weakening had no influence on CD, but Ml and FR decreased. Conclusion: The low-shrinkage composite VD performed better in restoring extensively destroyed premolars than did Z250. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: This study evaluated the influence of punch and base orifice diameters on push-out test results by means of finite element analysis (FEA). Materials and Methods: FEA was performed using 3D models of the push-out test with 3 base orifice diameters (2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 mm) and 3 punch diameters (0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mm) using MARC/MENTAT (MSC.Software). The image of a cervical slice from a root restored with a fiberglass post was used to construct the models. The mechanical properties of dentin, post, and resin cement were obtained from the literature. Bases and punches were constructed as rigid bodies. A 10-N force was applied by the punch in the center of the post in a nonlinear contact analysis. Modified von Mises stress, maximum principal stress, as well as shear and normal stress components were calculated. Results: Both punch and base orifice sizes influenced the stress distribution of the push-out test. Bases with larger diameters and punches with smaller diameters caused higher stress in dentin and at the dentin/cement interface. Conclusion: FEA showed that the diameter of the orifice base had a more significant influence on the stress distribution than did the punch diameter.
