This study introduces an optimized hybrid deep learning approach that leverages meteorological data to improve short-term wind energy forecasting in desert regions. Over a year, various machine learning and deep learning models have been tested across different wind speed categories, with multiple performance metrics used for evaluation. Hyperparameter optimization for the LSTM and Conv-Dual Attention Long Short-Term Memory (Conv-DA-LSTM) architectures was performed. A comparison of the techniques indicates that the deep learning methods consistently outperform the classical techniques, with Conv-DA-LSTM yielding the best overall performance with a clear margin. This method obtained the lowest error rates (RMSE: 71.866) and the highest level of accuracy (R 2 : 0.93). The optimization clearly works for higher wind speeds, achieving a remarkable improvement of 22.9%. When we look at the monthly performance, all the months presented at least some level of consistent enhancement (RRMSE reductions from 1.6 to 10.2%). These findings highlight the potential of advanced deep learning techniques in enhancing wind energy forecasting accuracy, particularly in challenging desert environments. The evaluation of slope stability is of crucial importance in geotechnical engineering and has significant implications for infrastructure safety, natural hazard mitigation, and environmental protection. This study aimed to identify the most influential factors affecting slope stability and evaluate the performance of various machine learning models for classifying slope stability. Through correlation analysis and feature importance evaluation using a random forest regressor, cohesion, unit weight, slope height, and friction angle were identified as the most critical parameters influencing slope stability. This research assessed the effectiveness of machine learning techniques combined with modern feature selection algorithms and conventional feature analysis methods. The performance of deep learning models, including recurrent neural networks (RNNs), long short-term memory (LSTM) networks, and generative adversarial networks (GANs), in slope stability classification was evaluated. The GAN model demonstrated superior performance, achieving the highest overall accuracy of 0.913 and the highest area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.9285. Integration of the binary bGGO technique for feature selection with the GAN model led to significant improvements in classification performance, with the bGGO-GAN model showing enhanced sensitivity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value, and F1 score compared to the classical GAN model. The bGGO-GAN model achieved 95% accuracy on a substantial dataset of 627 samples, demonstrating competitive performance against other models in the literature while offering strong generalizability. This research explores machine learning algorithms for reservoir inflow prediction, including long short-term memory (LSTM), random forest (RF), and metaheuristic-optimized models. The impact of feature engineering techniques such as discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and XGBoost feature selection is investigated. LSTM shows promise, with LSTM-XGBoost exhibiting strong generalization from 179.81 m 3 /s RMSE (root mean square error) in training to 49.42 m 3 /s in testing. The RF-XGBoost and models incorporating DWT, like LSTM-DWT and RF-DWT, also perform well, underscoring the significance of feature engineering. Comparisons illustrate enhancements with DWT: LSTM and RF reduce training and testing RMSE substantially when using DWT. Metaheuristic models like MLP-ABC and LSSVR-PSO benefit from DWT as well, with the LSSVR-PSO-DWT model demonstrating excellent predictive accuracy, showing 133.97 m 3 /s RMSE in training and 47.08 m 3 /s RMSE in testing. Integration renewable energy sources into current power generation systems necessitates accurate forecasting to optimize and preserve supply-demand restrictions in the electrical grids. Due to the highly random nature of environmental conditions, accurate prediction of PV power has limitations, particularly on long and short periods. Thus, this research provides a new hybrid model for forecasting short PV power based on the fusing of multi-frequency information of different decomposition techniques that will allow a forecaster to provide reliable forecasts. We evaluate and provide insights into the performance of five multi-scale decomposition algorithms combined with a deep convolution neural network (CNN). Additionally, we compare the suggested combination approach's performance to that of existing forecast models. An exhaustive assessment is carried out using three grid-connected PV power plants in Algeria with a total installed capacity of 73.1 MW. The developed fusing strategy displayed an outstanding forecasting performance. The comparative analysis of the proposed combination method with the stand-alone forecast model and other hybridization techniques proves its superiority in terms of forecasting precision, with an RMSE varying in the range of [0.454-1.54] for the three studied PV stations., (© 2024. This study investigates the application of the Gaussian Radial Basis Function Neural Network (GRNN), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and Multilayer Perceptron Optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (MLP-PSO) models in analyzing the relationship between rainfall and runoff and in predicting runoff discharge. These models utilize autoregressive input vectors based on daily-observed TRMM rainfall and TMR inflow data. The performance evaluation of each model is conducted using statistical measures to compare their effectiveness in capturing the complex relationships between input and output variables. The results consistently demonstrate that the MLP-PSO model outperforms the GRNN and GPR models, achieving the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) across multiple input combinations. Furthermore, the study explores the application of the Empirical Mode Decomposition-Hilbert-Huang Transform (EMD-HHT) in conjunction with the GPR and MLP-PSO models. This combination yields promising results in streamflow prediction, with the MLP-PSO-EMD model exhibiting superior accuracy compared to the GPR-EMD model. The incorporation of different components into the MLP-PSO-EMD model significantly improves its accuracy. Among the presented scenarios, Model M4, which incorporates the simplest components, emerges as the most favorable choice due to its lowest RMSE values. Comparisons with other models reported in the literature further underscore the effectiveness of the MLP-PSO-EMD model in streamflow prediction. Evapotranspiration is an important quantity required in many applications, such as hydrology and agricultural and irrigation planning. Reference evapotranspiration is particularly important, and the prediction of its variations is beneficial for analyzing the needs and management of water resources. In this paper, we explore the predictive ability of hybrid ensemble learning to predict daily reference evapotranspiration (RET) under the semi-arid climate by using meteorological datasets at 12 locations in the Andalusia province in southern Spain. The datasets comprise mean, maximum, and minimum air temperatures and mean relative humidity and mean wind speed. A new modified variant of the grey wolf optimizer, named the PRSFGWO algorithm, is proposed to maximize the ensemble learning's prediction accuracy through optimal weight tuning and evaluate the proposed model's capacity when the climate data is limited. The performance of the proposed approach, based on weighted ensemble learning, is compared with various algorithms commonly adopted in relevant studies. A diverse set of statistical measurements alongside ANOVA tests was used to evaluate the predictive performance of the prediction models. The proposed model showed high-accuracy statistics, with relative root mean errors lower than 0.999% and a minimum R 2 of 0.99. The model inputs were also reduced from six variables to only two for cost-effective predictions of daily RET. This shows that the PRSFGWO algorithm is a good RET prediction model for the semi-arid climate region in southern Spain.
