This study is a historical recovery of the theological contributions of mathematician Georg Cantor (1845-1918). I argue that Cantor's mathematical work with the actually infinite led him to epistemological conclusions about God that are analogous to the conclusions drawn by Catholic theologian Erich Przywara (1889-1972) with his analogia entis, or analogy of being. Based on the connection I draw between their works, I further argue that Cantor's work with the mathematically infinite is useful for informing a debate over the validity of the analogia entis begun in the twentieth century between Erich Przywara and Reformed theologian Karl Barth (1886-1968) and that continues into modern theology. Preachers/pastors have been trained to exegete a Scripture passage, but many have received little training in the exegesis of their congregation, local community, or dominant culture. Due to this inadequacy in training, twenty-first century preaching many times feels disconnected. It may not speak effectively to the listeners of the day. This gap in the inability to interpret the culture must change for preachers to experience homiletic growth. The purpose of this project is to implement a training model for the preachers in and around the Corsicana Baptist Association to increase the capacity and proclivity of preachers to preach in a more culturally-conscious fashion. This project addressed the need to appropriately address substance addicts and abusers among members at First Baptist Church, Mathis TX. This intervention sought to develop a program that will increase First Baptist Church's understanding of addiction and abuse, raise alertness to addicts and abusers, and move them to assist an addict or abuser towards recovery in appropriate ways. This was a qualitative, multiple case study of five members of FBC Mathis. The intervention lasted five weeks with one group session per week in the fellowship hall of the church. The group sessions consisted of scripture discussions led by the researcher, round-table discussions of case studies, and dialogue with recovering addicts and practitioners in the field of addiction recovery. The intervention also consisted of pre-intervention interviews, post-intervention interviews, guided journals, and the researcher's observation of the participants during the sessions. The research findings show that the participants were moved to minister to substance addicts and abusers when they were exposed to the world of addicts and abusers and learned how they can help one achieve recovery. Also, the participants became better prepared to help an addict or abuser as they discussed this ministry among themselves and with the guest practitioners. Furthermore, as the participants discussed this ministry, desire for ministry partnership developed among the participants and with recovery ministries and organizations represented at the sessions. It was hoped that this intervention would lay a foundation for further ministry to substance addicts and abusers at FBC Mathis. Pastors and Texas Baptist congregations need more training in order to promote the gospel across cultural and racial lines. There is a need for pastors and congregations to engage in cross-cultural ministry in order to counter racialization among Texas Baptist churches. The purpose of this project is to design and to implement a biblical vision for Agape Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas which addresses the process by which people of different ethnicities and languages move from being guests to spiritual friends. The implementation of this project included the development of a congregationally-based, cross-cultural vision team, congregational awareness and education concerning racialization, and preaching that addresses the topic of racialization, based specifically on Acts 6: 1-6 and Ephesians 2: 11-22. The vision team developed and implemented steps for overcoming racialization in Agape's Bible study program and in the church's leadership structure. Haddon Robinson's Big Idea approach to preaching centers on the meaning of a whole preaching passage. But what is the larger context of the big idea? It is the bigger idea or theme of the book in which the passage is found. This thesis-project provides a preaching series on the book of Philippians. It will be used as a case study to show preachers the value of connecting the ideas of individual passages in a book to the book's bigger idea. This thesis examines the usefulness of intentional connections with our ecclesial history for the purpose of sparking revival and renewal in Baptist congregations. The project initially presents the growing identity crisis facing Baptists and the causes behind the crisis. The convictions that distinguish Baptists from other congregations, if not appropriately practiced and passed on, threaten to continue eroding Baptist foundations indefinitely. By looking at the ministry of Isaac Backus, this project will propose that pursuing historical connections is both consistent with Baptist distinctives and thoroughly biblical. When these connections are promoted appropriately they offer the possibility of sustained ministry from generation to generation that is solidly orthodox in theology and increasingly zealous in practice. This thesis examines the beginning of the Baptist movement in colonial North Carolina, with particular emphasis upon the Separate Baptist movement under the leadership of the Reverend Shubal Steams. This thesis too recounts the political, social, and religious tensions that existed in pre-Revolutionary North Carolina and examines the role that the Regulator movement and the Battle of Alamance would play in stifling the evangelistic efforts of the Separate Baptists in the frontier regions of the colony during that period. This thesis argues that the Separate Baptist movement in the South (the precursor of the Southern Baptist Convention) was birthed through the revivalist efforts of Shubal Steams. It further argues that the previously mentioned tensions, which led to the Battle of Alamance, would result in the Anglican-controlled provincial government's destructive pillaging of the heavily occupied Baptist frontier region thereby impeding the Separate Baptist movement in North Carolina. The thesis further argues that this devastating aftermath of the Separate Baptists would contribute to a confluence of remaining Baptist groups into the moderated-Calvinist movement that the Southern Baptist Convention is today. The purpose of this project is to develop a strategy that will enable First Baptist Church, Bemis, in Jackson, Tennessee, to reclaim members who have become chronically inactive. The process of development will include the creation of a leadership team that will be involved throughout the process of research, planning, development, and the initial stage of implementation. The initial stage of implementation in regard to this project will be to present the strategy to the deacon body for their consideration. The rejection or approval of the strategy will not determine the success of the project. The goal is to develop the strategy and present it to the church, through the proper channels, for vote. The purpose of this project was to equip selected members of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church, Shelbyville, Tennessee, in personal evangelism skills. The project began with the project director's research in the field of personal evangelism. The project director utilized the research to develop teaching plans and conduct a workshop in order to equip selected members in personal evangelism skills. The project concluded with the project director's evaluation of a post-test and two evangelism encounters by the selected members of Shelbyville Mills Baptist Church, Shelbyville, Tennessee. The purpose of this project was to equip selected members in the Santa Fe River Baptist Association, High Springs, Florida in marketplace evangelism skills. The Project Director utilized the Equipping Program to design this project. The Project Director developed and analyzed a survey on marketplace evangelism, developed a curriculum, and trained selected members in marketplace evangelism skills. Eva Copeland, principal of Alachua Elementary School, evaluated the curriculum. Additionally, the Project Director compiled a list of evangelistic materials and developed a grid that helped him determined which skills development were most effective in marketplace evangelism. The Project Director used the survey to develop a pretest and a post-test for selected members. In addition, the Project Director developed an annotated bibliography from books, dissertations, electronic sources, and periodicals which enhanced his effectiveness in marketplace evangelism. Dr. Jeff Hessinger, Team Strategist, Personal Evangelism Team of the Evangelism Group, Florida Baptist Convention, evaluated the annotated bibliography and list of skill developments. The three primary methods of evaluation included a self-evaluation, an expert evaluation, and a peer evaluation. The purpose of this project was to equip selected young adult leaders at New Hope Baptist Church, Fayetteville, Georgia in relational discipleship. The project director has researched resources in the field of relational discipleship and developed an annotated bibliography and a teaching standard with the help of experts in the field of relational discipleship. The project director evaluated an ongoing progressive, relational discipleship process implemented in a local church via a partnership between Worldwide Discipleship Association (WDA) and New Hope Baptist Church of Fayetteville, GA. The project director, targeting a select group of young adult leaders and using resources developed by WDA, presented a philosophical and practical overview of a relational discipleship paradigm through a two-day workshop. Also, the project director implemented a segment of a focused equipping and emotional model for ministry process by using a three to five-month training curriculum and experience. In addition, the project director administered an assessment (pre-test/post-test) that indicated improvement in one's spiritual growth and maturity in a targeted group of young adults.
