Granulosa cell tumor (GCT) is a rare ovarian malignancy that represents only 2-3% of all cases. There are two subtypes of GCT: juvenile/JGCT (5% of cases) and adult/AGCT (95% of cases). This study aimed to describe a series of 6 GCT cases. The 6 study patients were managed from June 2011 to November 2022 in a private oncology clinic located in Teresina (PI), Brazil. At diagnosis, the mean patient age was 47 years, and symptoms in 5 patients (83%) were pelvic pain and/or increased abdominal volume. The majority of the patients (N=4/67%) had no comorbidities or findings related to GCT on physical examination. The mean tumor size was 11 cm. Five (83%) tumors were stage Ia and one tumor (17%) was stage III. Regarding tumor subtype, 5 (83%) were AGCT and 1 (17%) was JGCT. Surgical treatment consisted of unilateral salpingoophorectomy in 2 patients (33%), total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-ophorectomy in 3 patients (50%), and cytoreduction (suboptimal) in 1 patient (17%). After a mean follow-up period of 62.7 months, 5 patients (83%) are still alive and free of disease. One (17%) died from disease progression after 126 months. Multicentric reticulohistiocytosis (MRH) is a rare systemic proliferative granulomatous disease of non-Langerhans cells. The aim of this study is to report a case of multicentric reticulohistiocytosis that is easily misdiagnosed in clinical practice. A 74-year-old man sought the Rheumatology office in December 2022 with a main complaint of arthralgia for six months, associated with morning stiffness, joint swelling, and upper and lower limb weakness. On physical examination, papules on the dorsal surface of the proximal interphalangeal joints, base of the nose, and lateral surface of the right hallux were observed. Hyperemia was also identified on the back, and edema of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints, wrists and knees. Laboratory tests revealed ESR and ANA within normal limits. Tests were negative for Anti-Sm, Anti-RO, rheumatoid factor, Anti-CCP, HIV, and HCV. Chest CT-scan showed right axillary lymph node enlargement, measuring 2.7 cm, atheromatous aorta, and streaks with scattered atelectasis in the lower lobe, without other changes. On total abdominal ultrasound, prostate enlargement was detected. Immunohistochemistry of skin biopsy identified atypical acinar proliferation. Histopathology skin biopsy stained with hematoxylin-eosin (January 2023) showed a dense histiocytic infiltrate. Detail of the histiocytic component displayed "ground glass" eosinophilic cytoplasm. Immunohistochemistry was negative for S100 and CD34 and positive for CD68. Final diagnosis was MRH. The patient underwent treatment with drugs. In conclusion, clinical manifestations, including skin and joint changes, with signs and symptoms of rheumatic disorders (e.g. dermatomyositis and rheumatoid arthritis) similar to those of MRH are expected in rheumatology practice. Objectives: to analyze the trend of morbidity and mortality indicators due to acute diarrheal diseases in children under five years old in Piauí. Methods: ecological study with data from the Information Technology Department at the Public Health System. The indicators of hospitalization rate and coefficient of mortality from the disease between 2000 and 2019 were calculated. A descriptive analysis of the indicators was carried out in the studied period and by the macro-regions in the State. For trend analysis, the simple linear regression model with log-transformation was used. Trends were classified as increasing, decreasing and stable, with a significance level of 5%. Results: the average on hospitalization rate was higher in the semi-arid macro-region (36.6/1000 children under five years old) and lower in Teresina (14.9/1000 children under five years old). The mean mortality coefficients were higher in the coastal macro-region (0.98/1000 live births) and lower in Teresina (0.47/1000 live births). The indicators showed a downward trend in all analyzed locations (p<0.05). A turning point was noted from 2009, with a significant reduction in hospitalization rates in the savanna and semi-arid macro-regions. Conclusion: indicators of morbidity and mortality due to acute diarrheal diseases in children under five years old showed a downward trend in Piauí between 2000 and 2019, with differences in trends between the evaluated macro-regions. Uterine artery embolization (UAE) is a very efficient treatment modality for myoma. A rare complication of this procedure is vaginal expulsion of the uterine myoma (expelled myoma) which may occur in 3 to 5% of cases during a period of 3 to 48 months. We report a case of myoma expulsion after embolization, discussing diagnosis and treatment. A literature review was also conducted. A 40-year-old patient sought medical care on 5/2/2021 with intermittent pelvic pain and hypermenorrhagia. Vaginal ultrasound revealed an enlarged uterus (253 cm3) with myomas. The largest intramural myoma measured 7 cm. Uterine artery embolization was performed on 11/11/2021, without any complications. On 12/7/2021, during clinical examination an expelled myoma was observed entirely inside the vaginal canal. A vaginal myomectomy was performed, without any complications. BACKGROUND: Metaplastic breast carcinoma (MBC) is a rare type of breast cancer (0.20–1.00% of all cases). With a more aggressive clinical course, MBC frequently presents as a triple-negative subtype. OBJECTIVE: To describe a case series, analyzing patients survival in four MBC cases. METHODS: The cases were obtained from 532 medical records of breast cancer patients (0.7% of the total). RESULTS: All patients were female. Mean patient age was 49 years (range: 38–60 years). Mean tumor size was 8.9 cm (range: 3.0–15.5 cm). Mastectomy was performed in three cases. One patient had axillary nodal metastasis. All underwent chemotherapy and three received radiation therapy after surgery. CONCLUSIONS: With a mean follow-up of 36 months (range: 10–60 months), one case had a tumor recurrence (25%). Three patients (75%) died from metastatic disease and one (25%) is still alive and free of disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
