Abstract

Abstract: Dehydrogenation of propane to propene is one of the important reactions for the production of higher-value chemical intermediates. In the commercial processes, platinum- or chromium oxide-based catalysts have been used for catalytic propane dehydrogenation. Herein, we first report that bulk tungsten oxide can serve as the catalyst for propane dehydrogenation. Tungsten oxide is activated by hydrogen pretreatment and/or co-feeding of hydrogen. Its catalytic activity strongly depends on hydrogen pretreatment time and partial pressure of hydrogen in the feed gas. The activation of tungsten oxide by hydrogen is attributed to reduction of the metal oxide and presence of multivalent oxidation states. Comparison of the catalytic performance of partially reduced WO3−xto other highly active metal oxides shows that WO3−xexhibits superior catalytic activity and selectivity than Cr2O3and Ga2O3. The findings of this work provide the possibility for activation of metal oxides for catalytic reactions and the opportunity for the development of new type of catalytic systems utilizing partially reduced metal oxides. Abstract

We present a highly efficient single‐atom catalyst (SACs) tailored for nitroarene reduction using NaBH4 under ambient conditions. Employing an unique approach, we harnessed NaCl under high temperature to create host materials enriched with negatively charged nitrogenous and oxygenated functional groups, capable of anchoring and stabilizing Ni ions within the aromatic structure. The nickel single sites were prepared by a straightforward cation exchange method. STEM‐HAADF imaging confirmed the presence of nickel single‐atoms, while XPS, FTIR, and Raman spectra validated nickel coordination within the catalyst. Remarkably, the CN−Ni catalyst exhibited exceptional catalytic performance under ambient conditions, achieving a high catalytic activity with NaBH4 (TOF 2246± ${\pm }$ 452 h−1 and 107± ${\pm }$ 47 mmol g−1 min−1). It also demonstrated remarkable conversion exceeding 90 % and outstanding selectivity. Equally impressive was its ability to maintain full catalytic activity over multiple reaction cycles, highlighting its robustness. This work is a significant leap in SACs design, offering a versatile and highly effective preparation method for SACs based on N‐doped carbon with far‐reaching implications in industrial reduction reactions. Abstract

A new screen-printed electrode (SPE) modified with carbon black and ternary oxide (SiO2/TiO2/Nb2O5), denominated SPE/CB/SiTiNb and was developed for the direct detection of triclosan in tap water and mouthwash samples. The morphological characterization and electrochemical behavior of the sensors were performed by scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and cyclic voltammetry. Differential pulse voltammetry was used to evaluate the proposed sensor in Britton–Robinson buffer 0.1 mol L−1 and showed a limit detection of 1.23 nmol L−1 in a linear range from 0.025 to 57.01 µmol L−1. Studies with possible interferents were performed demonstrating a significant selectivity of the sensor to the triclosan oxidation reaction. The sensor was applied in tap water and mouthwash real sample analyses, whose recoveries ranged from 93.4 to 98.8%, demonstrating that the sensor shows promise in the detection of triclosan in different matrices allied to high sensitivity, selectivity, low-cost, portability, disposability, and low sample volume, without pre-treatment, per analysis. Abstract

Over the last decade, the CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) has been increasingly exploited for the synthesis of high‐value raw materials in gaseous or liquid form, although no examples of CO2 fixation in nanoparticle systems have been demonstrated. Herein, CO2 fixation into solid nanomaterials by laser synthesis and processing of gold colloids in water, traditionally considered a green approach leading to ligand‐free nanoparticles without the formation of by‐products, is reported. If carbon monoxide‐rich gold nanoparticles are observable even after synthesis in deionized water, the presence of CO2 derivatives in alkaline water environment leads to C2 and C3 coupling with the production of carboxylic acids as a typical CO2RR fingerprint. While laser processing of preformed gold colloids is selective for C2 coupling, both C2 and C3 coupling to lactic acid are observed during pulsed laser ablation of a gold target. In the latter case, it is demonstrated that it is possible to synthesize photoluminescent organometallic nanocomposites in the blue spectral region with a quantum yield of about 20% under adequate experimental conditions. 41. Structural Characterization of Mn3O4(001) Thin Films and Their Interaction with CO

Abstract

In this study, we investigated the atomic-level interaction between CO molecules and a well-ordered Mn3O4(001) thin film. The oxide film, initially grown on a single-crystal Au(111) substrate, was characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) to determine its oxidation state. Further examination of the film structure through scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) revealed its growth orientation along the [001] direction, with three domains rotated by 60° and aligned with the ⟨110⟩Audirections. Notably, the termination of the film features a layer of Mn3+cations covered with oxygen atoms. The study then focused on the interaction of the film with CO, employing infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy (IRAS) and temperature-programmed IRAS (TP-IRAS). The results unveiled two distinct IR peaks related to CO adsorption: one at 2140 cm–1, signifying that CO molecules weakly adsorbed on the oxygen-terminated surface of Mn3+cations, and another at 2105 cm–1, indicative of CO molecules bound to Mn2+cations at oxygen vacancies.

Abstract

Developing a sustainable and environmentally friendly inhibitor remains an essential and challenging goal for corrosion control. Here, different extracts from the same biomass (Juçara - Euterpe edulis) were applied as a new inhibitor for mild steel in different corrosive medium: 1 mol L−1HCl (pH 0) and simulated CO2-saturated formation water (pH 5). Depending on the extraction process, the anticorrosive capacity of extracts may increase, a fact verified in gravimetric tests, reaching 94.4% maximum inhibition efficiency for the acidic medium (1000 mg L−1of Juçara pulp in 48 h of immersion) and 86.1% inhibition efficiency for the saline medium (600 mg L−1of Juçara pulp extract assisted by ultrasound in 24 h of immersion). Gravimetric tests, electrochemical tests, and surface and biochemical characterization analyses were carried out to better understand these extracts' performance. This work provides an interesting application of the same biomass effectively acting in different corrosive medium, depending on the extraction method.

Abstract

The 3D photoelectrochemical cell was developed with epoxy resin and a working composite electrode produced with a blend of 3D printer commercial conductive filament of polylactic acid biopolymer and carbon black (PLA/CB) mixed with silica/tungsten (VI) oxide (SiO2/WO3) synthesized was used for the determination of imidacloprid in water samples. Imidacloprid is a neonicotinoid pesticide considered potentially neurotoxic, and investigating its presence in aquatic environments is of great importance. The PLA/CB/SiO2/WO3 sensor was morphologically characterized by scanning electron microscopy. Photoelectrochemical performance of the composite sensor was evaluated by chronoamperometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. In the presence of light (on) using differential pulse voltammetry in borate buffer solution (0.1 mol L−1, pH 7.0), the modified sensor exhibited a linear range of 0.15–93.70 μmol L−1 and with a limit of detection of 0.04 μmol L−1 to determine imidacloprid. The modified sensor did not present interferences for K+ and Fe3+ ions, carbendazim, glyphosate and thiamethoxam pesticides. Furthermore, the recovery in spiked samples successfully determined the presence of imidacloprid pesticide in tap water and natural river surface water. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
