We tested whether a brief self-affirmation writing intervention protected against identity-threats (i.e., stereotyping and discrimination) for adolescents' school-related adjustment. The longitudinal study followed 639 adolescents in Germany (65% of immigrant descent, 50% female, M[subscript age] = 12.35 years, SD[subscript age] = 0.69) from 7th grade (pre-intervention at T1, five to six months post-intervention at T2) to the end of 8th grade (one-year follow-up at T3). We tested for direct and moderated (by heritage group, discrimination, classroom cultural diversity climate) effects using regression and latent change models. The self-affirmation intervention did not promote grades or math competence. However, in the short-term and for adolescents of immigrant descent, the intervention prevented a downward trajectory in mastery reactions to academic challenges for those experiencing greater discrimination. Further, it protected against a decline in behavioral school engagement for those in positive classroom cultural diversity climates. In the long-term and for all adolescents, the intervention lessened an upward trajectory in disruptive behavior. Overall, the self-affirmation intervention benefited some aspects of school-related adjustment for adolescents of immigrant and non-immigrant descent. The intervention context is important, with classroom cultural diversity climate acting as a psychological affordance enhancing affirmation effects. Our study supports the ongoing call for theorizing and empirically testing student and context heterogeneity to better understand for whom and under which conditions this intervention may work.

Soils are the largest source of atmospheric nitrous oxide (N2O), a powerful greenhouse gas. Dry soils rarely harbor anoxic conditions to favor denitrification, the predominant N2O-producing process, yet, among the largest N2O emissions have been measured after wetting summer-dry desert soils, raising the question: Can denitrifiers endure extreme drought and produce N2O immediately after rainfall? Using isotopic and molecular approaches in a California desert, we found that denitrifiers produced N2O within 15 minutes of wetting dry soils (site preference = 12.8 ± 3.92 per mil, δ15Nbulk = 18.6 ± 11.1 per mil). Consistent with this finding, we detected nitrate-reducing transcripts in dry soils and found that inhibiting microbial activity decreased N2O emissions by 59%. SMA, a genetic neuromuscular disease that affects the control of muscle movement and results in severe motor disorders, is among the rare diseases. Due to the low prevalence of rare diseases and serious problems with correct diagnosis, there may be delays in diagnosis. When the studies on SMA are examined, it is known that the issues related to diagnosis are mostly emphasised, but a limited number of studies have been conducted on the current issues of patients with SMA or their caregivers. In addition to studies on treatment, it would be useful to consider the patient and his/her environment together in studies on the quality of life of patients and caregivers. Examining the concept of quality of life in SMA disease will form the basis for studies on quality of life, and at the same time, the continuity of studies on the subject will be ensured. In this sense, current issues the treatment of patients diagnosed with SMA was addressed in this study. The fact that these patients experience significant deficiencies such as respiratory impairment, malnutrition and skeletal deformity causes them to face difficulties in meeting their basic needs, especially in nutrition and toileting. These problems reduce the quality of life of patients and their relatives. Therefore, early diagnosis and providing medical, psychological, and social support to patients and their relatives will be effective in their quality of life. In this review, recommendations were made to address the current issues of SMA patients and their relatives.

The purpose of this study was to examine the play skills of children with typical development and those with speech and language disorders (SLD) based on gender, the presence of siblings, and parents' education levels. There were 270 children included in the study's sample. In the study, 'The Play Behaviour Scale' was used. Reticent behaviour scores of girls with SLD were significantly higher than those of boys, and scuffle play, scores of typically developing boys were significantly higher than those of girls. The social play scores of children with SLD were statistically significant when they had a sibling. Children whose parents had a high school education or less had considerably higher scuffle play ratings than children whose parents had a university degree or above. Consequently, it was observed that demographic variables influenced the play skills of children with SLD. Defining these children's play behaviours based on various variables will be beneficial for creating intervention programmes.

We aimed to investigate the relationship among proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), adropin levels, inflammation, and sleep variables in non-diabetic males with severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

This study aims to evaluate the responses of primary school children to the pandemic, based on the statements of their parents. In the study, the descriptive survey model was used. The study group consists of parents whose children attend a private primary school in the province of Manisa, Turkey. The 'General Information Form' and the 'Children's Response to the Pandemic Scale' were used for data collection in the study. In the data analysis, the t-test was used. As a result of the study, it was found that responses of the children whose parents aged 36 and over, who had an undergraduate degree and above, and whose families had three or more children were perceived as riskier according to their fathers. It was found that the presence of a COVID-19 history in the family and the presence of individuals who have died due to COVID-19 negatively affect the behavior of children during the pandemic. The male children were found to be more affected by the pandemic than female children. In this context, in order to support the healthy development of children, training programs can be planned and implemented to inform families about the disease and bereavement process in order to be able to support the healthy development of children. Climate change is increasing the variability of precipitation, altering the frequency of soil drying-wetting events and the distribution of seasonal precipitation. These changes in precipitation can alter nitrogen (N) cycling and stimulate nitric oxide (NO) emissions (an air pollutant at high concentrations), which may vary according to legacies of past precipitation and represent a pathway for ecosystem N loss. To identify whether precipitation legacies affect NO emissions, we excluded or added precipitation during the winter growing season in a Pinyon-Juniper dryland and measured in situ NO emissions following experimental wetting. We found that the legacy of both excluding and adding winter precipitation increased NO emissions early in the following summer; cumulative NO emissions from the winter precipitation exclusion plots (2750 ± 972 μg N-NO m-2 ) and winter water addition plots (2449 ± 408 μg N-NO m-2 ) were higher than control plots (1506 ± 397 μg N-NO m-2 ). The increase in NO emissions with previous precipitation exclusion was associated with inorganic N accumulation, while the increase in NO emissions with previous water addition was associated with an upward trend in microbial biomass. Precipitation legacies can accelerate soil NO emissions and may amplify ecosystem N loss in response to more variable precipitation.

In this study, core-shell nanofibers were produced by using hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) polymer in the core and hydrophobic poly(e-caprolactone) (PCL) polymer in the shell. Essential oil added nanofiber structures were developed by adding thyme oil (TEO) and borage oil (BO) in the PVP core part by using Triton X 100 (TX-100) as the surfactant. 8% PVP-8% PCL nanofibers were produced by adding TEO, BO and a 1:1 volume/volume mixture of these two (TEO:BO) to the PVP solution. Addition of essential oil and surfactant to the solutions resulted in different conductivity and viscosity values. SEM images were analyzed and it was observed that nanofiber diameters increased when essential oil and surfactant were added to the core of the coaxial nanofibers. Pristine, TEO added, TEO:BO added and BOadded nanofibers were calculated as 145 ± 66, 233 ± 150, 245 ± 165 and 300 ± 124 nm, respectively. Besides, water contact angle measurements showed that TX-100 and essential oil additives caused high hydrophilization of nanofiber by changing the hydrophobic nature of PCL. While the contact angle of the 8% PVP-8% PCL sample without additives were 98°, the contact angle of the oil and surfactant containing samples were measured as 0°. In conclusion, it was observed that the nanofiber morphology and surface properties changed when different essential oils and surfactant were added to the core-shell nanofibers.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the change in methicillin resistance and antibiotic susceptibility of staphylococcal strains isolated from various clinical samples of patients hospitalized in intensive care units over the years. Materials and Methods: A total of 5144 staphylococcal strains isolated from various clinical specimens of inpatients in intensive care units in a university health practice and research hospital medical microbiology laboratory between January 2018 and December 2021 were (96.51%) included in the study. Bacteria identification and antibiotic susceptibility tests were performed using conventional methods and an automated systems. Results: Of the total 5144 staphylococci strains, 4503 were identified as coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) (87.54%) and 641 as Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (12.46%). Of these strains, 1451 (28.21%) were isolated from anesthesiology and reanimation intensive care unit, and 4573 (88.90%) from blood samples. The most dramatic increase in both S. aureus and CNS in 2021 occurred in levofloxacin (S. aureus 100%; CNS 99.45%) and ciprofloxacin (S. aureus 100%; CNS 98.54%). While a high rate of resistance to fusidic acid (96.51%) was observed in CNSs, the resistance, which was over 65% in S. aureus strains, decreased significantly (5.40%) in 2021. The lowest antibiotic resistance was in daptomycin, linezolid, and teicoplanin in both bacterial groups. Methicillin resistance, which was 62.31% in 2018 in S. aureus strains, decreased to 33.10% in 2021, while it decreased from 86.68% to 75.06% in CNSs. The rate of resistance to all the examined antibiotics were found to be significantly higher in CNSs. Conclusion: To prevent the development of resistance, antimicrobial resistance profiles should be determined through effective surveillance studies, and each hospital should establish its own antibiotic use policy. Additionally, it is important to ensure the rational use of antibiotics and to take effective infection control measures.

In this study, we give a modification of Mellin convolution-type operators. In this way, we obtain the rate of convergence with the modulus of the continuity of the mmth-order Mellin derivative of function ff, but without the derivative of the operator. Then, we express the Taylor formula including Mellin derivatives with integral remainder. Later, a Voronovskaya-type theorem is proved. In the last part, we state order of approximation of the modified operators, and the obtained results are restated for the Mellin-Gauss-Weierstrass operator.

Abstract Background The aim of the current study was to compare bipolar depression (BD) and unipolar depression (UD) patients and healthy controls in terms of their cognitive distortions and perfectionist traits during acute depressive episodes. Results The current dissertation study is a cross-sectional study consisting of 80 patients with unipolar depression, 80 patients with bipolar depression, and 80 healthy controls. Sociodemographic and Clinical Data Form, Cognitive Distortion Scale (CDS), Frost’s Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (FMPS), Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) were used as measurement tools. Healthy controls were selected on the basis that they had the same gender and age distribution as the other participants. It was found that patients with unipolar and bipolar depression had statistically equal but higher total CDS interpersonal and personal achievement scores than healthy controls, and all subtypes of the CDS labeling score were higher in the unipolar depression group than in the other groups. It was found that both depression groups had higher FMPS self-oriented and social-oriented perfectionism scores than healthy controls, lower others-oriented perfectionism scores than healthy controls, and there were no statistically significant differences between them in terms of perfectionism subtypes. Conclusions In the light of the research data, it was found that the patients with bipolar/unipolar depression had more cognitive distortion than healthy controls and cognitive distortion was not significantly different in the two groups. According to the research data, it is observed that perfectionism is higher in unipolar depression than in bipolar depression. The data obtained have the potential to provide a theoretical basis for a psychotherapeutic approach.

En esta investigación se aborda el paradigma del viaje del héroe como sustento de la estructura narrativa de los concursos de preguntas y respuestas. Se aplican los modelos de Campbell, Vogler y Sánchez-Escalonilla a una muestra representativa de quiz shows españoles con el objetivo de comprobar si los formatos de preguntas y respuestas en televisión presentan una narrativa similar a los relatos de ficción que se basan en la estructura del viaje del héroe. Se han analizado los programas a nivel de estructura y significado semántico, utilizando una metodología exploratoria descriptiva. Tras el análisis y la aplicación de la metodología se ha comprobado el paralelismo entre el relato épico ficcional y los casos elegidos para la muestra. El resultado es la creación de un modelo específico de aplicación a los concursos -‘el viaje del concursante’- extrapolable a los quiz shows televisivos en general.

This paper proposes a mutual coupling based self-calibration method for transmit mode large scale antenna arrays. In accord with the proposed active antenna array model, gain/phase uncertainties, antenna element position errors and mutual coupling effects are reduced to an error matrix. The expansion of equations of the proposed calibration method are presented. The proposed calibration procedure is capable of compensating the error matrix while the system is operating and is suitable for off-line, on-site and online calibration procedures. The calibration procedure relies on the measurements of the error signal related to scan reflection coefficient while the system is operating, and the premeasured inter-element couplings. The calibration system takes pre-measured couplings, the geometry of the antenna array, the antenna weights and pointing direction as input, then, during the operation it combines input with the measured feedback signals to construct an array manifold. The coefficients of the error matrix are later estimated from the array manifold. The antenna weights are compensated by direct inversion of the estimated error matrix which involves division operator, yielding possible inaccurate coefficient estimation in hardware. Therefore, a globally convergent generalized inverse matrix approximation method is adopted. Simulation results with worst case errors and a simple experimental study are presented. The results show that with the proposed method, accurate calibration can be made with couplings only in the first and second order neighbors of an antenna element.

In this study, the differences in the spatial pattern of happiness will be revealed and the distribution of the relationship between happiness and economic variables between countries will be discussed. When the distribution pattern is examined, it can be observed that happy and unhappy countries are concentrated in certain areas. Therefore, the concept of happiness has been evaluated from a geographical point of view. From the analysis of 147 countries in this study, it was found that economic freedom and GDP have a positive effect on happiness whereas inflation and unemployment have a negative effect. A striking result was that in addition to the relevant economic variables, location is also effective in the interpretation of happiness. One of the significant results of the study was that geography is a factor to consider in investigating the relationship between economic variables and happiness.
