In power distribution network, more and more people are worried about equipment failures and malfunctions caused by fluctuating loads and system harmonics due to poor power quality. The presence of harmonics can shorten the equipment’s service life. There is a strong link between the energy use and the environment. Major part of power demand is supplied from thermal power stations which produce more carbon emissions as the power plant uses more fuel to generate the electricity. The effective utilization of transformer capacity is achieved by minimizing system losses and improving voltage regulation in the distribution system. Many techniques are used to address this issue, ranging from several power factor correction systems to passive and active harmonic filtering. Although distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) is a perfect solution to solve this problem, they are expensive and have more complexity as a view against static var compensators (SVCs). This study aims to provide optimal approach for SVC switching in unbalanced operation of the distribution networks. In present work, the SVC is arranged in thyristor binary switched capacitors (TBSC)- thyristor-controlled reactor (TCR) configuration. The capacitor banks are set in binary sequence, and the optimal size reactor is decided. The TCR in SVC inherently generates the harmonics. The fuzzy logic approach is used to solve this non-linearity by determining the optimal triggering delay angle of the thyristor in TCR. This results in significant reduction in harmonics injected by the SVC. The strategy is appealing to improve efficiency of power distribution networks and thereby save natural resources required to generate electricity from thermal power stations.

This paper introduces FC-TBSR, which is one of the controllers in flexible AC transmission system. The thyristor binary switched reactor contains thyristors which are connected in antiparallel which acts as bidirectional switch in series with a reactor and fixed capacitor connected across. The reactor banks are arranged in binary steps. Usually, FACTS devices are used for voltage regulation and reactive power compensation but it has some drawbacks like harmonics injection and it will not give fine voltage control because it has fixed values. To avoid and overcome these drawbacks, a new FC-TBSR compensator has been proposed.

The three-phase four wires low voltage supply system to residential, commercial and production areas in the distribution system is implemented. The different nature of loads connected to the three-wire four-phase distribution system. It can be personal computers, automatic machines, variable speed drives, lighting ballasts and other electronic power equipment, which may produce a nonlinear characteristic cause zero sequence current to flow in the system in the neutral of supply system. This may cause a serious power quality problems, results in reduction. This paper present to reduce the harmonics currents and neutral overloading by using the zigzag transformer. The zigzag transformer is one of the solution to attenuate the neutral current and reduce the zero sequence harmonic currents of the distribution systems.

In this paper we have proposed a power factor correction technique for permanent magnet brushless DC motor (PMBLDCM) drive. The proposed method improves the power quality of the system by reducing the harmonic contains in current source i.e. total harmonic distortion (THD) in the system. As THD get reduce of the system, the power factor of the system get improved and archived near to unity. To improve power factor of the system it is necessary to bring source current in phase with source voltage, which can be done by the boost converter. PMBLDC motors are best because of their high efficiency, silent operation, compact size, high reliability, and low maintenance requirements. The performance of the proposed system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment.

The aim of this paper is to design and implement the wireless communication between annunciator window located in control room and numerical relay located at far end in bay control room at switch yard of substation with the help of GSM device and to make available fault data in speech format for easy understanding to operator working in sub-station. This is for the purpose of making fault data available for immediate analysis via SMS with user friendly working of system. Fault data remains in stored memory format and can be accessed as per requirement. With the help of GSM device, fault data is transmitted from auxiliary output contacts of numerical relay to annunciator window located in control room as well as to mobile phone of corresponding sub-station Engineer. Such advanced & new technologies are developed which are useful for making power system as a smart power system. GSM aided speech enabled annunciator window facia provides more flexibility than wire based means of communication and continues to play a significant role in the modernization.

Photovoltaic system using single phase Z-Source inverter is presented in this paper. Traditional inverter technology is modified into new Z-Source inverter. The Z-Source network provides a simple single-stage power conversion concept. It is competitive alternative to conventional photovoltaic power conditioner systems due to its voltage-buck or boost capability and additional state known as shoot through state. During this state it is possible to switch on both switches of same phase leg. Also due to a lower number of switching devices power loss is reduced. MPPT technique is applied to reduce shading problem of solar light, which will result in consistent power generation and good system efficiency. Z-source network is applied for inverter application to improve the boosted dc bus voltage capability. The whole system is designed and simulated using MATLAB/Simulink.

This paper presents the harvesting of solar energy by using interleaved flyback converter topology. This topology is applied for the inverter to increase output voltage of PV module. The conventional inverters has more size and low efficiency hence to overcome this drawback the flyback inverters are connected in parallel which improve efficiency and switching devices get reduced. Flyback inverter topology also provides the isolation between PV source and load. It also boosts up the voltage supplied by PV source. The DC power output of solar panel is converted into AC form by this topology with higher efficiency and low losses. Low power from PV system is increased by employing this technique in inverter system which mainly reduces the size of the converter. Therefore, this technique is more efficient than the conventional technique which is analyzed by MATLAB Simulink.

Among the third world countries from Asia and Africa, power quality is one of the biggest problem still persists because unaffordable high tech solutions. Voltage control problem due to an adequate reactive power compensation and its improper control results in frequent cascade tripping of electrical supply system. In this paper efforts are made to provide a low cost solution to provide exact reactive power compensation at load end by thyristor binary switched capacitor with transient free switching of capacitor bank. A microcontroller based table top model has been developed and results are obtained. It shows excellent results which are plotted.

The Static Var Compensator (SVC), a first generation FACTS controller is taken up for study. It is a variable impedance device where the current through reactor is controlled using bidirectional thyristor valves. The application of SVC is initially for load compensation of fast changing loads. Here the objective is to provide dynamic power factor improvement and also balance the currents on the source side whenever required. The work deals with the analytical studies, modeling and simulation of SVC to make it possible competent compensator of current generation. The investigation is carried out on different configuration of SVCs. The result of that thyristor binary compensator (TBC) type of thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) in conjunction with smallest step size thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) configuration turn out to be best solution over major power quality issues.

The capacitor is used for reactive power compensation but there is harmonic resonance which becomes a very serious problem for reactive power compensation in power systems, this paper presents reactive power compensation without creating harmonic resonance under variable load condition. As a result, the planned controller can be function as a retrofitting device to replace existing reactive power controllers with little variations. Topology for reactive power compensation suitable for dynamic loads in closed loop system. The scheme consists of(TBSC) Thyristor Binary Switched Capacitor banks are used for reactive power compensation and avoiding harmonic resonance problem.

This analyze applies a fresh approach to deliver continuing and protective power for implantable medical devices (IMDs) employing a microbial fuel cell (MFC) which was considered to be placed in human large intestine and could employ intestinal fluid and microorganisms to generate power. Based on the anatomic physique and internal ambient circumstances of large intestine, transverse colon was selected to be the adequate position for the implantation of MFC. The operation of the MFC which approximated the surrounding factors of transverse colon by managing dissolved oxygen (DO) and pH and was inoculated with approximated intestinal fluid (SIF) was analyzed. Consistent power generation of MFC was acquired after couple of months conduct with open circuit voltage (OCV) of 550.2 mV, maximum power density of 72.3mW/m2, and average voltage output of 305mV(with external resistance of 200). In this paper we focused on the research of the nonconventional waste material harvesting model with consideration of economy, power generation, and environmental effects associated with harvesting of various waste samples. This paper emphasizes on the application of the model to a realistic implementations. Several waste management scenarios are compared, along with the various energy and environmental factors among alternate waste management strategies; the effect of waste diversion through reuse and effective conservation of energy to restore electrical power on environmental releases and economy. In addition, we sampled various waste materials like fruit pulp, bio waste, municipal waste, sea water etc and tried to find out lots of chemical reaction to be faster with use of natural catalyst. This may include temperature effect on such biochemical reactions which can be useful for economic electricity generation. This model will save economy and hygiene of nation globally is a better conclusion. Implementation of such model will lead towards the futuristic green energy conservation and can prove best answer to global warming.
