El chabacano zamboangueño es una lengua criolla filipina, de base española, hablada como lengua materna por más de 400.000 personas (datos de 2010). No obstante, su grafía normalizada es relativamente reciente (de 2014). Este artículo presenta una investigación destinada a la identificación y anotación semiautomática de los errores cometidos por sus hablantes al escribir, según la ortografía normativa. En primer lugar, detallamos los criterios aplicados en la construcción de un corpus de más de 8 millones de palabras del zamboangueño escrito y los géneros que lo componen, así como los formatos utilizados para codificarlo. En segundo lugar, describimos el proceso seguido para (1) el estudio de los errores y problemas ortográficos presentes en este corpus; (2) el desarrollo de una taxonomía elaborada para su mejor representación y clasificación; y (3) su formalización mediante una ontología. Por último, discutimos el resultado principal de este trabajo: un corpus de zamboangueño escrito, con sus errores ortográficos clasificados y anotados semiautomáticamente con enlaces a la ontología y sus formas corregidas correspondientes. Estas anotaciones nos permitirán a corto plazo analizar de manera más sistemática y profunda las faltas de ortografía cometidas por los usuarios del zamboangueño.

The world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to an unprecedented change in the lifestyle routines of millions. Beyond the general physical health, financial, and social repercussions of the pandemic, the adopted mitigation measures also present significant challenges in the population’s mental health and health programs. It is complex for public organizations to measure the population’s mental health in order to incorporate it into their own decision-making process. Traditional survey methods are time-consuming, expensive, and fail to provide the continuous information needed to respond to the rapidly evolving effects of governmental policies on the population’s mental health. A significant portion of the population has turned to social media to express the details of their daily life, rendering this public data a rich field for understanding emotional and mental well-being. This study aims to track and measure the sentiment changes of the Mexican population in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, we analyzed 760,064,879 public domain tweets collected from a public access repository to examine the collective shifts in the general mood about the pandemic evolution, news cycles, and governmental policies using open sentiment analysis tools. Sentiment analysis polarity scores, which oscillate around -0.15, show a weekly seasonality according to Twitter’s usage and a consistently negative outlook from the population. It also remarks on the increased controversy after the governmental decision to terminate the lockdown and the celebrated holidays, which encouraged the people to incur social gatherings. These findings expose the adverse emotional effects of the ongoing pandemic while showing an increase in social media usage rates of 2.38 times, which users employ as a coping mechanism to mitigate the feelings of isolation related to long-term social distancing. The findings have important implications in the mental health infrastructure for ongoing mitigation efforts and feedback on the perception of policies and other measures. The overall trend of the sentiment polarity is 0.0001110643.

En este artículo se presentan los resultados del análisis parcial de un conjunto de datos recientemente recabado para conocer el perfil de los migrantes y refugiados (MR en adelante) en España. Los datos analizados incluyen: (a) los propios de ONG y asociaciones que trabajan con este colectivo en la Comunidad de Madrid; y (b) algunas de las respuestas obtenidas a un cuestionario distribuido entre las personas responsables de dichas asociaciones. Estas respuestas del cuestionario han permitido delinear el perfil identificativo y sociolingüístico de los MR en nuestro país. Este estudio se complementa con otro presentado en este mismo volumen, y cuyo fin último conjunto ha sido realizar un análisis de necesidades de formación lingüística de las MR en España, de cara al posible desarrollo de cursos masivos en línea y abiertos (o MOOC, por sus siglas en inglés) para un aprendizaje del español y/o de otras lenguas de alta demanda (inglés, francés, etc.) convenientemente adaptado a las mismas.

En este artículo se presentan los resultados del análisis parcial de un conjunto de datos recientemente recabados para conocer el perfil de los migrantes y refugiados (MR en adelante) en España. Estos datos son un subconjunto de las respuestas obtenidas mediante un cuestionario distribuido entre una amplia representación de responsables de ONG y asociaciones que trabajan con este colectivo en la Comunidad de Madrid. En concreto, las respuestas del cuestionario analizadas valoran el perfil académico, profesional y tecnológico de los MR en nuestro país. Este estudio forma parte de otro más amplio, destinado al desarrollo y adaptado a las necesidades de los MR, de cursos masivos en línea y abiertos (o MOOC, por sus siglas en inglés) para el aprendizaje del español, principalmente. En este contexto, el fin concreto de este estudio ha sido determinar qué requisitos debían cumplir estos MOOC y sus contenidos adaptados, desde un punto de vista tecnológico y formativo.

Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) has already been widely and successfully applied in many applications for Natural Language Processing (NLP), usually working with fairly small or average sized datasets and no actual time constraints. Even so, LSA is a high time and space consuming task, which complicates its integration in real-time NLP applications (as, for example, information retrieval or question answering) on large-scale datasets. For this reason, an implementation of LSA that can both allow and accelerate as much as possible its execution on large-scale datasets would be most useful in these data-intensive, real-time NLP scenarios. However, to the best of our knowledge, such an implementation of LSA has not been achieved so far.

The development and the evolution of digital information technologies have orchestrated the most significant advance in the history of second language didactics, in particular, in its online and/or distance modalities. This new era of Distance Foreign Language Learning, overrun by digital learning, social and gaming tools, has caused an authentic education revolution, qualified by significant researchers as disruptive. Se presenta una aproximacion practica a la construccion de ontologias a partir de tesauros inspirada en la metodologia Methontology , que permite hacer uso de los lenguajes propios de la definicion de ontologias y anotacion semantica basada en las mismas. Asimismo es una alternativa a la publicacion de tesauros en la web semantica mediante SKOS-Core , que es la propuesta del World Wide Web Consortium ( W3C ), y ofrece mas semantica que el tesauro de partida y que su implementacion mediante SKOS-Core . Tambien se detalla una arquitectura generica para la representacion de dominios con dos niveles de descripcion: una ontologia de representacion del conocimiento, basada en las facetas de Ranganathan (1967), para representar las relaciones de alto nivel del dominio, mas una ontologia de dominio, que proporciona la descripcion de un campo particular del dominio.

Desde la publicación de Shield y Kukulska-Hulme (2008), primer monográfico sobre aprendizaje de lenguas mediante tecnología móvil (conocido en inglés con el acrónimo MALL: Mobile Assisted Language Learning), son muchos los cambios que han afectado a esta modalidad de aprendizaje de idiomas. Poco a poco, los dispositivos móviles se han ido convirtiendo en uno de los mejores aliados del alumno en el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras, pues le permiten estudiarlas en cualquier momento y en cualquier lugar. En este número especial de la revista se detallan los avances más recientes en el área de MALL, ejemplificados mediante la evolución de los resultados presentados sobre esta área de investigación (1) en las últimas reuniones del Special Interest Group on MALL de la asociación EuroCALL; y (2) en los propios congresos de esta misma asociación celebrados en los últimos tres años. En él se mencionan asimismo las tendencias actuales en el desarrollo de esta incipiente disciplina y sus recursos (aplicaciones para dispositivos móviles o apps, principalmente) y las principales dudas y objeciones que plantea en el ámbito más general de CALL (del inglés,Computer Assisted Language Learning). En conjunto, este monográfico muestra que, en determinadas condiciones, el aprendizaje de lenguas mediante aplicaciones móviles puede ser tan eficaz o más como otros métodos y técnicas de enseñanza, tanto en la modalidad de aprendizaje a distancia o autónoma como en las modalidades presencial y combinada. También muestra algunas de las pequeñas sombras de MALL en la actualidad, que tendrán que ser despejadas en posibles trabajos futuros.

Currently, there is an international change in education that includes the development of new learning programmes and policies, such as (a) bilingual education programmes, (b) the Bologna process, with an emphasis on a more autonomous way of learning, or (c) the systematic evaluation and assessment of students and educational results. These changes in the educational situation require changing the way we learn, think and behave. Thus have emerged several new scenarios and environments for teaching and learning, such as blended learning, e-learning, ubiquitous learning or incidental learning. All these new approaches put the focus on learners and are intended to adapt to their needs and limitations. It seems that the easiest way to implement these new approaches is to apply Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to teaching and/or learning. This is the main assumption underlying the research in important language teaching and learning areas, such as Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL). This chapter (as well as this whole volume) tries to show how this goal is currently being achieved

Poco a poco, los dispositivos moviles se han ido convirtiendo en uno de los mejores aliados del alumno en el aprendizaje de lenguas extranjeras, pues le permiten estudiarlas en cualquier momento y en cualquier lugar. En este numero especial de la revista se detallan los avances mas recientes en el area de MALL, ejemplificados mediante la evolucion de los resultados presentados sobre esta area de investigacion (1) en las ultimas reuniones del Special Interest Group on MALL de la asociacion EuroCALL; y (2) en los propios congresos de esta misma asociacion celebrados en los ultimos tres anos. In this paper, experiences from different research groups illustrate the state-of-the-art of Mobile Assisted Language Learning (henceforth, MALL) in formal and non-formal education. These research samples represent recent and on-going progress made in the field of MALL at an international level and offer encouragement for practitioners who are trying to incorporate these approaches into mainline second language teaching. Furthermore, researchers interested in the field can see that the work presented here exemplifies how fertile it is, which should hopefully serve as motivation to undertake new studies to move the state-of-the-art further on.

Recently, linguists have shown great interest in the study of Pragmatics and its associated phenomena, in an attempt to capture the information that is being communicated in a discourse and/or exchanged in a dialogue, especially when this information is not being explicitly stated. With this aim, a pragmatic annotation level has been included in the OntoLingAnnot annotation framework, and the corresponding pragmatic knowledge has been formalized into the linguistic ontologies of this framework. This chapter presents the different units, values, attributes and relations that constitute the pragmatic level of these ontologies, which have been devised for the annotation of dialogues and texts in different contexts (e.g., the development of corpora or language teaching).

This paper presents the OntoLingAnnot annotation framework, already developed for the annotation of morphological, syntactic, semantic and discourse phenomena, and its extension to cover the annotation of pragmatic phenomena. This extension was considered the ideal test bed for the interoperability of the linguistic annotations performed by means of the platform, since (i) pragmatics itself deals with a real mix of different linguistic topics, such as speech acts, pragmatic coherence relations, deixis, presuppositions and implicatures; and (ii) it clearly interacts with the rest of levels, since (potentially) every linguistic unit at any level can have a pragmatic projection. In particular, it introduces the different pragmatic units that can be used to annotate texts and dialogues using the framework. These pragmatic units are included in the set of ontologies associated to OntoLingAnnot, whose design requirements and development process are also described here. Besides, this paper shows as well the main principles and properties of the OntoLingAnnot annotation framework that help its different annotations interoperate.

Although with the Semantic Web initiative much research on web page semantic annotation has already been done by AI researchers, linguistic text annotation, including the semantic one, was originally developed in Corpus Linguistics and its results have been somehow neglected by AI. The purpose of the research presented in this proposal is to prove that integration of results in both fields is not only possible, but also highly useful in order to make Semantic Web pages more machine-readable. A multi-level (possibly multi-purpose and multi-language) annotation model based on EAGLES standards and Ontological Semantics, implemented with last generation Semantic Web languages (RDF(S)/XML) is being developed to fit the needs of both communities; the present paper focuses on its semantic level.

In this paper, we present an ontology-based methodology and architecture for the comparison, assessment, combination (and, to some extent, also contrastive evaluation) of the results of different linguistic tools. More specifically, we describe an experiment aiming at the improvement of the correctness of lemma tagging for Spanish. This improvement was achieved by means of the standardisation and combination of the results of three different linguistic annotation tools (Bitext’s DataLexica, Connexor’s FDG Parser and LACELL’s POS tagger), using (1) ontologies, (2) a set of lemma tagging correction rules, determined empirically during the experiment, and (3) W3C standard languages, such as XML, RDF(S) and OWL. As we show in the results of the experiment, the interoperation of these tools by means of ontologies and the correction rules applied in the experiment improved significantly the quality of the resulting lemma tagging (when compared to the separate lemma tagging performed by each of the tools that we made interoperate).

Following the road in-between purely linguistic annotation and solely ontology-based annotations for the semantic Web, a hybrid (ontological and linguistic) model and platform, called OntoTag, has been created, aiming at better machine communication, interoperability and language understanding; these capabilities are derived from the incorporation into the platform of a set of linguistic ontologies, the main topic of this paper, suitable for the multileveled and standardized annotation of semantic Web documents.
