Abstract

Momordica charantia, a popular edible plant in Vietnam, has been used to support the treatment of several diseases. This work aimed to investigate the total phenolic contents (TPCs), antioxidant capacity, and saponin content of Momordica charantia leaf extracts using the maceration method. The effects of extraction conditions, including material/liquid ratios (1/10, 1/15, 1/20, 1/25, and 1/30 g/mL), extraction time (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 mins), and extraction temperature (60, 70, 80, and 90 °C) were investigated. The results demonstrate that the most favorable extraction parameters were a solid/liquid ratio of 1:20 g/mL for 20 mins at 70°C. Moreover, the obtained extracts were rich in phenolic compounds (TPCs of up to 26.7 mg GAE/g as the highest) and performed high 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity (IC50 of 29.2 mg/g). 7. Evaluating the multi-dose intramuscular administration of methotrexate in the early stage of interstitial ectopic pregnancy

Abstract

Background: Interstitial ectopic pregnancy (IEP) happens when implantation occurs in a special location, the interstitial part, of the fallopian tubes. This condition accounts for 3% of all ectopic pregnancies. When the amniotic sac just develops in the interstitial area of the uterine tube without altering the anatomy of the uterine horn, locating the gestational mass by surgery is difficult. This study aims to assess the efficacy of multi-dose intramuscular injection of MTX in the treatment of IEP in the early stages. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Hanoi Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital from January 2018 to July 2019. The patients were selected under the sampling criteria and treated using intramuscular MTX injection with the dose of 1mg/kg/24 hours on day one. The dose in the following day depended on βhCG concentration. If βhCG concentration increases or decreases by less than 15%, the above treatment will be continued on the next day. The total number of MTX injections is 4 shots. Results: 26 eligible patients; successful treatment rate is 84.62%. βhCG significantly decreased after the third injection. Conclusion: Multi-dose intramuscular MTX injection treatment is an effective and safe treatment option for interstitial ectopic pregnancies in early stages.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe a trend in coverage of maternal care services, and provides a detailed analysis of socio-economic correlations to the existing inequities. The paper uses data from the Vietnam Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 2000, 2006, 2011, and 2014. In the MICS, there were 9,117 women in 2000, 9,473 women in 2006, 11,614 women in 2011, and 9,827 women in 2014 participated in. We found the coverage of antenatal care increase from 68.6% in 2000 to 95.9% in 2014. Similarly, the percentages of women who gave birth with the assistance of skilled staff increased during the studied period ( from 69.9% in 2000, 87.7% to 94.5% in 2014). However, improvements in antenatal care and skilled birth attendance in Vietnam have been uneven across different segments of the population. In all the four surveys, the proportions of women who received ANC by a skilled staff and percentages of women who gave birth with the assistance of a skilled health personnel were much higher among those with higher education, belonged to Kinh majority tribe, had better economic status, and lived in an urban area. The degrees of inequity in both antenatal and delivery care in Vietnam are likely to increase over time. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
