Three-dimensional visualization technology (3DVT) has been recently introduced to achieve a precise preoperative planning of liver surgery. The aim of this observational study was to assess the accuracy of 3DVT for complex liver resections. 3DVT with hyper accuracy three-dimensional (HA3D™) technology was introduced at our institution on February 2020. Anatomical characteristics were collected from two-dimensional imaging (2DI) and 3DVT, while intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were recorded prospectively. A total of 62 patients were enrolled into the study. 3DVT was able to study tumor extension and liver anatomy, identifying at least one vascular variation in 37 patients (59.7%). We prove the stability of optimal traffic plans in branched transport. In particular, we show that any limit of optimal traffic plans is optimal as well. This result goes beyond the Eulerian stability proved in [7], extending it to the Lagrangian framework.

Schizophrenia is a chronic disease affecting 1% worldwide population, of which 30% are refractory to the available treatments: thus, searching for new pharmacological targets is imperative. The acute and repeated ketamine administration are validated preclinical models that recreate the behavioral and neurochemical features of this pathology, including the parvalbumin-expressing interneurons dysfunction. Angiotensin II, through AT1 receptors (AT1-R), modulates the dopaminergic and GABAergic neurotransmission. We evaluated the AT1-R role in the long-term neuronal activation and behavioral alterations induced by repeated ketamine administration. Adult male Wistar rats received AT1-R antagonist candesartan/vehicle (days 1–10) and ketamine/saline (days 6–10). After 14 days of drug-free, neuronal activation and behavioral analysis were performed. Locomotor activity, social interaction and novel object recognition tests were assessed at basal conditions or after ketamine challenge. Immunostaining for c-Fos, GAD67 and parvalbumin were assessed after ketamine challenge in cingulate, insular, piriform, perirhinal, and entorhinal cortices, striatum, and hippocampus. Additionally, to evaluate the AT1-R involvement in acute ketamine psychotomimetic effects, the same behavioral tests were performed after 6 days of daily-candesartan and a single-ketamine administration. We found that ketamine-induced long-lasting schizophrenia-like behavioral alterations, and regional-dependent neuronal activation changes, involving the GABAergic neurotransmission system and the parvalbumin-expressing interneurons, were AT1-R-dependent. The AT1-R were not involved in the acute ketamine psychotomimetic effects. We establish a theory of $Q$-valued functions minimizing a suitable generalization of the Dirichlet integral. In a second paper the theory will be used to approximate efficiently area minimizing currents $\mathrm{mod}(p)$ when $p=2Q$, and to establish a first general partial regularity theorem for every $p$ in any dimension and codimension., 37 pages. Amphetamine‐induced neuroadaptations involve vascular damage, neuroinflammation, a hypo‐functioning prefrontal cortex (PFC) as well as cognitive alterations. Brain angiotensin II, through Angiotensin Type 1 receptor (AT1‐R), mediates oxidative/inflammatory responses, promoting endothelial dysfunction, neuronal oxidative damage and glial reactivity. The present work aims to unmask the role of AT1‐R in the development of amphetamine‐induced changes over glial and vascular components within PFC and hippocampus. Attention deficit was evaluated as a behavioral neuroadaptation induced by amphetamine. Brain microvessels were isolated to further evaluate vascular alterations after amphetamine exposure. Male Wistar rats were administered with AT1‐R antagonist, Candesartan, followed by repeated amphetamine. After one week drug‐off period, animals received a saline or amphetamine challenge and were evaluated in behavioral tests. Afterwards, their brains were processed for cresyl violet staining, CD11b (microglia marker), GFAP (astrocyte marker) or von Willebrand factor (vascular marker) immunohistochemistry, and oxidative/cellular stress determinations in brain microvessels. Statistical analysis was performed by using Factorial ANOVA followed by Bonferroni or Tukey tests. Repeated amphetamine administration increased astroglial and microglial markers immunoreactivity, increased apoptotic cells and promoted vascular network rearrangement at the PFC concomitantly with an attention deficit. Although, the amphetamine challenge improved the attentional performance, it triggers detrimental effects probably because of the exacerbated malondialdehyde levels and increased heat shock protein 70 expression in microvessels. All observed amphetamine‐induced alterations were prevented by the AT1‐R blockade. Our results support the AT1‐R involvement in the development of oxidative/inflammatory conditions triggered by amphetamine exposure, affecting cortical areas and increasing vascular susceptibility to future challenges. Schizophrenia is a neuropsychiatric disease with 1% worldwide prevalence and characterized by a deep distortion in thought and perception, cognitive dysfunction, and social behavioral deficits. After the discovery of the antipsychotic effects of chlorpromazine, a large body of evidence pointed out to the neurotransmission misbalance as the main factor in the development of this pathology. Nowadays, it is known that schizophrenia is related to a pluri-factorial etiopathogenesis where gene factors, neuroinflammation, and brain microenvironment’s alterations are taken into account as well. In this sense, glial cells (oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, and microglial cells) are essential pieces in brain microenvironment with crucial roles in synaptic establishment and function, neuroinflammation, and metabolic and ion homeostasis, among others. Currently, glial cells are the target of numerous researches on the race to puzzle out the schizophrenia etiopathology.

In recent decades, a number of novel non-visual opsin photopigments belonging to the family of G protein- coupled receptors, likely involved in a number of non-image-forming processes, have been identified and characterized in cells of the inner retina of vertebrates. It is now known that the vertebrate retina is composed of visual photoreceptor cones and rods responsible for diurnal/color and nocturnal/black and white vision, and cells like the intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) and photosensitive horizontal cells in the inner retina, both detecting blue light and expressing the photopigment melanopsin (Opn4). Remarkably, these non-visual photopigments can continue to operate even in the absence of vision under retinal degeneration. Moreover, inner retinal neurons and Müller glial cells have been shown to express other photopigments such as the photoisomerase retinal G protein-coupled receptor (RGR), encephalopsin (Opn3), and neuropsin (Opn5), all able to detect blue/violet light and implicated in chromophore recycling, retinal clock synchronization, neuron-to-glia communication, and other activities. The discovery of these new photopigments in the inner retina of vertebrates is strong evidence of novel light-regulated activities. This review focuses on the features, localization, photocascade, and putative functions of these novel non-visual opsins in an attempt to shed light on their role in the inner retina of vertebrates and in the physiology of the whole organism. We establish a first general partial regularity theorem for area minimizing currents $\mathrm{mod}(p)$, for every $p$, in any dimension and codimension. More precisely, we prove that the Hausdorff dimension of the interior singular set of an $m$-dimensional area minimizing current $\mathrm{mod}(p)$ cannot be larger than $m-1$. Additionally, we show that, when $p$ is odd, the interior singular set is $(m-1)$-rectifiable with locally finite $(m-1)$-dimensional measure., 96 pages. In this note we introduce a new model for the mailing problem in branched transportation in order to allow the cost functional to take into account the orientation of the moving particles. This gives an effective answer to [Problem 15.9] of the book "Optimal transportation networks" by Bernot, Caselles, and Morel. Moreover we define a convex relaxation in terms of rectifiable currents with group coefficients. With such approach we provide the problem with a notion of calibration. Using similar techniques we define a convex relaxation and a corresponding notion of calibration for a variant of the Steiner tree problem in which a connectedness constraint is assigned only among a certain partition of a given set of finitely many points.

In this paper we prove generalizations of Lusin-type theorems for gradients due to Giovanni Alberti, where we replace the Lebesgue measure with any Radon measure $\mu$. We apply this to go beyond the known result on the existence of Lipschitz functions which are non-differentiable at $\mu$-almost every point $x$ in any direction which is not contained in the decomposability bundle $V(\mu,x)$, recently introduced by Alberti and the first named author. More precisely, we prove that it is possible to construct a Lipschitz function which attains any prescribed admissible blowup at every point except for a closed set of points of arbitrarily small measure. We prove that optimal traffic plans for the mailing problem in R d are stable with respect to variations of the given coupling, above the critical exponent α = 1 − 1 / d , thus solving an open problem stated in the book Optimal transportation networks, by Bernot, Caselles and Morel. We apply our novel result to study some regularity properties of the minimizers of the mailing problem, showing that only finitely many connected components of an optimal traffic plan meet together at any branching point.

Based on Smirnov's decomposition theorem we prove that every rectifiable 1-current T with finite mass M ( T ) and finite mass M ( ∂ T ) of its boundary ∂T can be approximated in mass by a sequence of rectifiable 1-currents T n with polyhedral boundary ∂ T n and M ( ∂ T n ) no larger than M ( ∂ T ) . Using this result we can compute the relaxation of the h-mass for polyhedral 1-currents with respect to the joint weak-⁎ convergence of currents and their boundaries. We obtain that this relaxation coincides with the usual h-mass for normal currents. This shows that the concepts of so-called generalized branched transport and the h-mass are equivalent.

Mental disorders have high prevalence and long duration, affecting the quality of life and generating elevated economic costs in public health. Approximately 25% of population worldwide will develop any mental illness at some moment of its lifetime. These disorders are the result of complex processes involving the interaction of many pathological changes. Although, each psychiatric disease has well-defined characteristics, some of their neurobiological processes, like inflammation and vascular alterations, seem to be common. Since microvasculature is involved in essential functions as oxygen delivery, waste product removal, and transvascular exchange, any brain vessel alteration could promote a pathological state. In this sense, capillary ultrastructural abnormalities, deficient perfusion, and blood-brain barrier disruption have been described in schizophrenia, depression, and Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. These vascular dysfunctions could be related to angiogenic factor deregulations. The abovementioned evidences point out to evaluate the vasculature as a future pharmacological target for the treatment of mental disorders. Among the several factors involved in the regulation of angiogenesis, this chapter will focus on the upstream angiogenic mediator Angiotensin II. This peptide is produced at peripheral and brain level and exerts its principal effects acting through AT1 receptors. Considering that the available treatments for mental illnesses have low efficacy and high incidence of side effects, new pharmacological tools become necessary. The present chapter will be focused in the evidences that support Angiotensin II as a key factor in the understanding and therapy of these pathologies.

In this article we prove that the singular set of Dirichlet-minimizing $Q$-valued functions is countably $(m-2)$-rectifiable and we give upper bounds for the $(m-2)$-dimensional Minkowski content of the set of singular points with multiplicity $Q$.

Models involving branched structures are employed to describe several supply-demand systems such as the structure of the nerves of a leaf, the system of roots of a tree, and the nervous or cardiovascular systems. Given a flow (traffic path) that transports a given measure $$\mu ^-$$ onto a target measure $$\mu ^+$$ , along a 1-dimensional network, the transportation cost per unit length is supposed in these models to be proportional to a concave power $$\alpha \in (0,1)$$ of the intensity of the flow. In this paper we address an open problem in the book Optimal transportation networks by Bernot, Caselles and Morel and we improve the stability for optimal traffic paths in the Euclidean space $$\mathbb {R}^d$$ , with respect to variations of the given measures $$(\mu ^-,\mu ^+)$$ , which was known up to now only for $$\alpha >1-\frac{1}{d}$$ . We prove it for exponents $$\alpha >1-\frac{1}{d-1}$$ [in particular, for every $$\alpha \in (0,1)$$ when $$d=2$$ ], for a fairly large class of measures $$\mu ^+$$ and $$\mu ^-$$ .

In this paper we extend the results of A strong minimax property of nondegenerate minimal submanifolds, by White, where it is proved that any smooth, compact submanifold, which is a strictly stable critical point for an elliptic parametric functional, is the unique minimizer in a certain geodesic tubular neighbourhood. We prove a similar result, replacing the tubular neighbourhood with one induced by the flat distance and we provide quantitative estimates. Our proof is based on the introduction of a penalized minimization problem, in the spirit of A selection principle for the sharp quantitative isoperimetric inequality, by Cicalese and Leonardi, which allows us to exploit the regularity theory for almost minimizers of elliptic parametric integrands.

In this paper we disprove a conjecture stated in (4) on the equality of two notions of dimension for closed cones. Moreover, we answer in the negative to the following question, raised in the same paper. Given a compact family C of closed cones and a set S such that every blow-up of S at every point x 2 S is contained in some element of C, is it true that the dimension of S is smaller than or equal to the largest dimension of a vector space contained is some element of C?

A single or repeated exposure to psychostimulants induces long-lasting neuroadaptative changes. Different neurotransmitter systems are involved in these responses including the neuropeptide angiotensin II. Our study tested the hypothesis that the neuroadaptative changes induced by amphetamine produce alterations in brain RAS components that are involved in the expression of the locomotor sensitization to the psychostimulant drug. Wistar male rats, pretreated with amphetamine were used 7 or 21 days later to study AT1 receptors by immunohistochemistry and western blot and also angiotensinogen mRNA and protein in caudate putamen and nucleus accumbens. A second group of animals was used to explore the possible role of Ang II AT1 receptors in the expression of behavioral sensitization. In these animals treated in the same way, bearing intra-cerebral cannula, the locomotor activity was tested 21 days later, after an amphetamine challenge injection and the animals received an AT1 blocker, losartan, or saline 5 min before the amphetamine challenge. An increase of AT1 receptor density induced by amphetamine was found in both studied areas and a decrease in angiotensinogen mRNA and protein only in CPu at 21 days after treatment; meanwhile, no changes were established in NAcc. Finally, the increased locomotor activity induced by amphetamine challenge was blunted by losartan administration in CPu. No differences were detected in the behavioral sensitization when the AT1 blocker was injected in NAcc. Our results support the hypothesis of a key role of brain RAS in the neuroadaptative changes induced by amphetamine. Fil: Paz, Maria Constanza. The use of psychostimulants, such as amphetamine (Amph), is associated with inflammatory processes, involving glia and vasculature alterations. Brain Angiotensin II (Ang II), through AT1-receptors (AT1-R), modulates neurotransmission and plays a crucial role in inflammatory responses in brain vasculature and glia. Our aim for the present work was to evaluate the role of AT1-R in long-term alterations induced by repeated exposure to Amph. Astrocyte reactivity, neuronal survival and brain microvascular network were analysed at the somatosensory cortex. Thermal nociception was evaluated as a physiological outcome of this brain area. Male Wistar rats (250–320 g) were administered with AT1-R antagonist Candesartan/vehicle (3 mg/kg p.o., days 1–5) and Amph/saline (2.5 mg/kg i.p., days 6–10). The four experimental groups were: Veh-Sal, CV-Sal, Veh-Amph, CV-Amph. On day 17, the animals were sacrificed and their brains were processed for Nissl staining and immunohistochemistry against glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and von Willebrand factor. In another group of animals, thermal nociception was evaluated using hot plate test, in the four experimental groups, on day 17. Data were analysed with two-way anova followed by Bonferroni test. Our results indicate that Amph exposure induces an increase in: neuronal apoptosis, astrocyte reactivity and microvascular network, evaluated as an augmented occupied area by vessels, branching points and their tortuosity. Moreover, Amph exposure decreased the thermal nociception threshold. Pretreatment with the AT1-R blocker prevented the described alterations induced by this psychostimulant. The decreased thermal nociception and the structural changes in somatosensory cortex could be considered as extended neuroadaptative responses to Amph, involving AT1-R activation. Learned experiences are indispensable for adaptation and survival of every living organism. The generation of a memory trace is an active physiological process which implies association and organization of the new impressions with already stored ones. Therefore, memory is explained as activity-dependent synaptic plasticity, involving electrophysiological, biochemical and morphological changes in functional synapse.

A single exposure to amphetamine induces neurochemical sensitization in striatal areas. The neuropeptide angiotensin II, through AT1 receptors (AT1-R) activation, is involved in these responses. However, amphetamineinduced alterations can be extended to extra-striatal areas involved in blood pressure control and their physiological outcomes. Our aim for the present study was to analyze the possible role for AT1-R in these events using a twoinjection protocol and to further characterize the proposed AT1-R antagonism protocol. Central effect of orally administered AT1-R blocker (Candesartan, 3 mg/kg p.o. 5 days) in male Wistar rats was analyzed by spontaneous activity of neurons within locus coeruleus. In another group of animals pretreated with the AT1-R blocker or vehicle, sensitization was achieved by a single administration of amphetamine (5 mg/kg i.p. – day 6) followed by a 3-week period off drug. On day 27, after receiving an amphetamine challenge (0.5 mg/kg i.p.), we evaluated: (1) the sensitized c-Fos expression in locus coeruleus (LC), nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS), caudal ventrolateral medulla (A1) and central amygdala (CeAmy); and (2) the blood pressure response. AT1-R blockade decreased LC neurons’ spontaneous firing rate. Moreover, sensitized c-Fos immunoreactivity in TH + neurons was found in LC and NTS; and both responses were blunted by the AT1-R blocker pretreatment. Meanwhile, no differences were found neither in CeAmy nor A1. Sensitized blood pressure response was observed as sustained changes in mean arterial pressure and was effectively prevented by AT1-R blockade. Our results extend AT1-R role in amphetamine-induced sensitization over noradrenergic nuclei and their cardiovascular output. Fil: Marchese, Natalia Andrea. This note details how a recent structure theorem for normal $1$-currents proved by the first and third author allows to prove a conjecture of Cheeger concerning the structure of Lipschitz differentiability spaces. More precisely, we show that the push-forward of the measure from a Lipschitz differentiability space under a chart is absolutely continuous with respect to Lebesgue measure.

The current design drivers for multi-cores, namely performance per watt, scalability and flexibility, make the Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) the de-facto on-chip interconnect. State of the art NoCs can exploit heterogeneous solutions and complex DVFS techniques to fulfill also the variability of the application requirements. Relevant showstoppers to the design of a truly flexible NoC fitting all the possible traffic conditions, are the burstiness of the traffic generated by modern applications magnified by the unbalanced usage of the interconnect resources due to the implemented coherence protocol. This paper presents DENA, a DVFS-capable, heterogeneous NoC design, encompassing the coherence protocol, the application behavior and the need to minimize the energy budget. Simulation results on a 64-core, 2D-mesh architecture executing the SPLASH2 benchmark suite, testify the advantages of DENA from both the performance and energy viewpoints with an average 34.3% energy-performance improvement against the state of the art DVFS-capable NoC design.

Amphetamine and cocaine are drugs of abuse worldwide consumed for their stimulant properties in the central nervous system. They mainly potentiate noradrenergic and dopaminergic neurotransmission and induce long-term changes in multiple neuronal circuits, modifying the future responses to pharmacological or non-pharmacological challenges. The altered neuronal connectivity induced by psychostimulants has long been studied in reward processing brain areas and in behavioral responses. Different neurotransmitter systems are involved in these responses, including the neuropeptide angiotensin II. Locally produced brain angiotensin II, acting through AT1 receptors, plays an important role in the modulation of central dopaminergic neurotransmission. Dopamine-innervated areas such as caudate putamen, nucleus accumbens, substantia nigra, hypothalamus, and ventral pallidum express high AT1 receptor density. Our recent studies show the role of angiotensin II AT1 receptors in the development of neuroadaptative behavioral and neurochemical changes induced by amphetamine. Moreover, we found alterations in the components of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) and in the functionality of AT1 receptors after amphetamine exposure. The evidence presented in this chapter highlight the RAS as a neuromodulatory system of superior brain activities, and further validate Angiotensin II involvement in amphetamine-induced alterations through AT1 receptor activation. The AT1 receptor blockers are currently and safely used in clinic for different pathologies, so they would be prominent candidates for pharmacological treatment in pathologies related to altered dopamine neurotransmission, such as drug addiction, schizophrenia, or even depression.

Background: The functioning of the central nervous system is complex and it implies tight and coordinated interactions among multiple components. Neurotransmitters systems imbalance is a hallmark in the central nervous system (CNS) disorders. These pathologies profoundly impact the social, cultural, and economic perspective worldwide. The etiopathology of CNS illnesses is still poorly understood, making their treatment difficult. Brain angiotensin II (Ang II), through its AT1 receptors, modulates dopaminergic, glutamatergic and GABAergic neurotransmission, which are responsible for movement control, cognition, emotions and stress responses. Alterations of these functions, concomitant with modified brain reninangiotensin system (RAS) components, have been described in CNS pathologies like depression, Parkinson, Alzheimer, and schizophrenia. In this sense, altered functionality of angiotensin I converting enzyme and AT1 receptors, is associated with augmented susceptibility to the occurrence of these pathologies. Moreover, some epidemiological data showed lower incidence of Alzheimer disease in hypertensive patients under treatment targeting RAS; meanwhile preclinical studies relate RAS with Parkinson and depression. Little is known about schizophrenia and RAS; however, Ang II is closely related to dopamine and glutamate pathways, which are mainly altered in this pathology. Conclusion: The available evidences, together with the results obtained by our group, open the possibility to postulate brain Ang II as a possible therapeutic target to treat the above-mentioned CNS disorders. It was already found that Ang II AT1 receptors are involved in the neuroadaptative changes induced by a single exposure to amphetamine, and such changes are related to the development of behavioral and neurochemical sensitization. The induction of the immediately early gene c-fos has been used to define brain activated areas by amphetamine. Our aim was to evaluate the participation of AT1 receptors in the neuronal activation induced by amphetamine sensitization. The study examined the c-fos expression in mesocorticolimbic areas induced by amphetamine challenge (0.5 mg/kg i.p) in animals pretreated with candesartan, a selective AT1 receptor blocker (3 mg/kg p.o × 5 days), and amphetamine (5 mg/kg i.p) 3 weeks before the challenge. Increased c-fos immunoreactivity was found in response to the amphetamine challenge in the dorsomedial caudate-putamen and nucleus accumbens, and both responses were blunted by the AT1 receptor blocker pretreatment. In the infralimbic prefrontal cortex, increased c-fos immunoreactivity was found in response to amphetamine and saline challenge, and both were prevented by the AT1 receptor blocker. No differences were found neither in ventral tegmental area nor prelimbic cortex between groups. In this paper, we prove that every equivalence class in the quotient group of integral $1$-currents modulo $p$ in Euclidean space contains an integral current, with quantitative estimates on its mass and the mass of its boundary. Moreover, we show that the validity of this statement for $m$-dimensional integral currents modulo $p$ implies that the family of $(m-1)$-dimensional flat chains of the form $pT$, with $T$ a flat chain, is closed with respect to the flat norm. In particular, we deduce that such closedness property holds for $0$-dimensional flat chains, and, using a proposition from "The structure of minimizing hypersurfaces mod $4$" by Brian White, also for flat chains of codimension $1$., 19 pages. Rationale: Angiotensin II, by activation of its brain AT1-receptors, plays an active role as neuromodulator in dopaminergic transmission. These receptors participate in the development of amphetamine-induced behavioral and dopamine release sensitization. Dopamine is involved in cognitive processes and provides connectivity between brain areas related to these processes. Amphetamine by its mimetic activity over dopamine neurotransmission elicits differential responses after acute administration or after re-exposure following long-term withdrawal periods in different cognitive processes. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the AT1-receptor involvement in the acute and long-term amphetamine-induced alterations in long-term memory and in cellular-related events. Methods: Male Wistar rats (250-300 g) were used in this study. Acute effects: Amphetamine (0.5/2.5 mg/kg i.p.) was administered after post-training in the inhibitory avoidance (IA) response. The AT1-receptor blocker Losartan was administered i.c.v. before a single dose of amphetamine (0.5 mg/kg i.p.). Long-term effects: The AT1-receptors blocker Candesartan (3 mg/kg p.o.) was administered for 5 days followed by 5 consecutive days of amphetamine (2.5 mg/kg/day, i.p.). The neuroadaptive changes were evidenced after 1 week of withdrawal by an amphetamine challenge (0.5 mg/kg i.p.). The IA response, the neuronal activation pattern, and the hippocampal synaptic transmission were evaluated. Results: The impairing effect in the IA response of post-training acute amphetamine was partially prevented by Losartan. The long-term changes induced by repeated amphetamine (resistance to acute amphetamine interference in the IA response, neurochemical altered response, and increased hippocampal synaptic transmission) were prevented by AT1-receptors blockade. Conclusions: AT1-receptors are involved in the acute alterations and in the neuroadaptations induced by repeated amphetamine associated with neurocognitive processes. Fil: Marchese, Natalia Andrea. We add to the literature the following observation. If µ is a singular measure on the real line which assigns measure zero to every porous set and f : R ! R is a Lipschitz function which is non-differentiable µ-a.e. then for every C 1 function g : R ! R there holds µ{x 2 R : f(x) = g(x)} = 0. In other words the Lusin type approximation property of Lipschitz functions with C 1 functions does not hold with respect to a general Radon measure. Moreover we discuss, only in the one-dimensional setting, how the result contained in (Alberti, A Lusin type theorem for gradients, J. Funct. Anal., 100 (1991)) could be extended and improved when the Lebesgue measure is replaced by an arbitrary Radon measure.

For every finite measure \({\mu}\) on \({{\mathbb{R}}^n}\) we define a decomposability bundle \({V(\mu,\,\cdot)}\) related to the decompositions of \({\mu}\) in terms of rectifiable one-dimensional measures. We then show that every Lipschitz function on \({{\mathbb{R}}^n}\) is differentiable at \({\mu}\)-a.e. \({x}\) with respect to the subspace \({V(\mu,\,x)}\), and prove that this differentiability result is optimal, in the sense that, following (Alberti et al., Structure of null sets, differentiability of Lipschitz functions, and other problems, 2016), we can construct Lipschitz functions which are not differentiable at \({\mu}\)-a.e. \({x}\) in any direction which is not in \({V(\mu,\,x)}\). As a consequence we obtain a differentiability result for Lipschitz functions with respect to (measures associated to) \({k}\)-dimensional normal currents, which we use to extend certain basic formulas involving normal currents and maps of class \({C^1}\) to Lipschitz maps.

Resource management is a well known problem in almost every computing system ranging from embedded to High Performance Computing (HPC) and is useful to optimize multiple orthogonal system metrics such as power consumption, performance and reliability. To achieve such an optimization a resource manager must suitably allocate the available system resources -- e.g. processing elements, memories and interconnect -- to the running applications. This kind of process incurs in two main problems: a) system resources are usually shared between multiple applications and this induces resource contention; and b) each application requires a different Quality of Service, making it harder for the resource manager to work in an application-agnostic mode. In this scenario, resource management represents a critical and essential component in a computing system and should act at different levels to optimize the whole system while keeping it flexible and versatile.In this paper we describe a multi-layer resource management strategy that operates at application, operating system and hardware level and tries to optimize resource allocation on embedded, desktop multi-core and HPC systems.

Previous results from our laboratory showed that angiotensin II AT1 receptors (AT1-R) are involved in the neuroadaptative changes induced by amphetamine. The aim of the present work was to study functional and neurochemical responses to angiotensin II (ANG II) mediated by AT1-R activation in animals previously exposed to amphetamine. For this purpose male Wistar rats (250–320 g) were treated with amphetamine (2.5 mg/kg/day intraperitoneal) or saline for 5 days and implanted with intracerebroventricular (i.c.v.) cannulae. Seven days after the last amphetamine administration the animals received ANG II (400 pmol) i.c.v. One group was tested in a free choice paradigm for sodium (2% NaCl) and water intake and sacrificed for Fos immunoreactivity (Fos-IR) determinations. In a second group of rats, urine and plasma samples were collected for electrolytes and plasma renin activity determination and then they were sacrificed for Fos-IR determination in Oxytocinergic neurons (Fos-OT-IR). Results: Repeated amphetamine exposure (a) prevented the increase in sodium intake and Fos-IR cells in caudate-putamen and accumbens nucleus induced by ANG II i.c.v. (b) potentiated urinary sodium excretion and Fos-OT-IR in hypothalamus and (c) increased the inhibitory response in plasma renin activity, in response to ANG II i.c.v. Our results indicate a possible functional desensitisation of AT1-R in response to ANG II, induced by repeated amphetamine exposure. This functional AT1-R desensitisation allows to unmask the effects of ANG II i.c.v. mediated by oxytocin. We conclude that the long lasting changes in brain AT1-R functionality should be considered among the psychostimulant-induced neuroadaptations. Fil: Casarsa, Brenda Solange. The renin angiotensin system (RAS) is involved not only in the regulation of blood pressure and fluid homeostasis, but also in the modulation of multiple additional functions in the brain. In this sense, it was found to be involved in many neuroadaptive responses induced by drugs such as cocaine, amphetamines, alcohol, as well as others.

We prove that in a natural complete metric space ofBVhomeomorphismsf:Q→Qwithf|∂Q=Id, residually many homeomorphisms (in the sense of Baire categories) map a null set onto a set of full measure, and vice versa. Moreover, we observe that for 1 ⩽p< 2, the family ofW1,phomemomorphisms satisfying the above property is of the first category.

We present a Rayleigh–Taylor mixing rate simulation with an acceleration rate falling within the range of experiments. The simulation uses front tracking to prevent interfacial mass diffusion. We present evidence to support the assertion that the lower acceleration rate found in untracked simulations is caused, at least to a large extent, by a reduced buoyancy force due to numerical interfacial mass diffusion. Quantitative evidence includes results from a time-dependent Atwood number analysis of the diffusive simulation, which yields a renormalized mixing rate coefficient for the diffusive simulation in agreement with experiment.

In this note we prove an abstract version of a recent quantitative stratifcation priciple introduced by Cheeger and Naber (Invent. Math., 191 (2013), no. 2, 321-339; Comm. Pure Appl. Math., 66 (2013), no. 6, 965-990). Using this general regularity result paired with an $\varepsilon$-regularity theorem we provide a new estimate of the Minkowski dimension of the set of higher multiplicity points of a Dir-minimizing Q-valued function. The Steiner tree problem can be stated in terms of finding a connected set of minimal length containing a given set of finitely many points. We show how to formulate it as a mass-minimization problem for 1-dimensional currents with coefficients in a suitable normed group. The representation used for these currents allows to state a calibration principle for this problem. We also exhibit calibrations in some examples.
