Background: Posyandu program suspension due to COVID-19 has resulted in a decrease in monitoring children’s growth, leading to undetected problems. Understanding mothers' eating behavior plays a crucial role in preventing malnutrition, we must continue the program as a health promotion medium to enhance mothers' understanding and track children's growth and development. Objectives: This research aimed to determine the effectiveness of virtual Posyandu program in strengthening cadre health promotion services for nutritionally vulnerable children in Jember Regency agricultural area during the absence of offline Posyandu. Methods: The research was carried out September 2022-January 2023, implementing a 21-day intervention on 169 respondents from Puskesmas Arjasa and Paleran (representing two different socio-cultures). The cadres utilized the application to enhance children's nutritional health and instruct parents on its usage. The success parameter is that there were significant differences between the growth and development of children pre- and post-program. Growth variables were assessed by measuring nutritional status according to Ministry-of-Health Regulation, before and after the intervention, while development variables were assessed using a Developmental Pre-Screening questionnaire (DPSQ). The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of solvent type and solvent ratio on yield, antioxidant activity (i.e., DPPH, ABTS, FRAP), total phenolics, flavonoids, anti-elastase, and tannins of Lablab purpureus (koro komak) extract. The types of solvents used were 70% of ethanol, 96% of ethanol, 22oC of water, and 75oC of water with the ratios of 1:4, 1:6, and 1:8. The experiment was conducted, duplicate and the data was obtained for analysis using ANOVA at a 95% confidence level. If the treatment shows a significant difference, DMRT is used to check for significant differences. The results indicated that the different ratios and types of solvents were giving significantly different yields, antioxidant activity, total phenolic, flavonoids, anti-elastase, and tannins. The highest yield, total phenolic, flavonoid, tannin, and antioxidant activity values were obtained from the treatment by a 1:8 ratio of 75oC of water with the value 28.39%, 11.70 mg GAE/g, 35.88 mg QE/100g, and 6.44 mg TAE/100g, 18.46 AAE/g (DPPH), 4.23 AAE/g (ABTS), and 4.17 mg Fe+/g (FRAP) respectively.

Stunting is a nutritional problem that people around the world are facing. The World Health Organization (WHO) has determined Indonesia as one of the five stunting prevalence subregions in the Southeast Asia region. Zinc includes micro-nutrients that are important for the growth and development of children. The prevalence of zinc deficiency in children in Indonesia in 2006 was 36.1%. This study aims to determine the relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months in the Districts of Jelbuk and Sumberjambe. This research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The sample used was 119, derived from secondary data from previous studies. Zinc intake in children was obtained through 24-hour food recall data and then analyzed using nutrisurvey software, while body length/height is the maximum distance from the vertex to the soles of the feet. The study results were that 57.2% of the samples had insufficient zinc intake, with an average daily intake of 4.37 ± 2.35 mg, and as many as 60.5% had TB below normal. The data analysis showed a significant relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months (p=0.001), with a reasonably strong relationship (r=0.295). This study concludes that there is a relationship between zinc intake and the length/height of children aged 6-59 months in the Jelbuk and Sumberjambe Districts. Keywords: Zinc, Stunted, Stunting

Objectives During the second coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) surge, cases increased sharply due to low awareness and compliance with measures to limit disease spread. Health literacy (HL) is an important component of public health initiatives, and schools are potential sources of health education to increase HL via the presentation of COVID-19 educational modules. Methods This cross-sectional study involved an online questionnaire administered to students from 5 high schools in Surabaya and Sidoarjo, Indonesia, 6-7 weeks after the start of government-issued directives restricting public gatherings. We collected data on each respondent’s age, gender, parental education, and socioeconomic variables. HL was determined by the Health Literacy Measure for Adolescents. We additionally measured their attitudes and behaviors related to preventing the spread of COVID-19. The students were asked if they watched the COVID-19 module at school, their feelings about vaccination, and preferred online sources of COVID-19-related information. Results Most of the 432 respondents had viewed COVID-19 modules at school. Background Sentiments and opinions regarding COVID-19 and the COVID-19 vaccination on Indonesian-language Twitter are scarcely reported in one comprehensive study, and thus were aimed at our study. We also analyzed fake news and facts, and Twitter engagement to understand people’s perceptions and beliefs that determine public health literacy. Methods We collected 3,489,367 tweets data from January 2020 to August 2021. We analyzed factual and fake news using the string comparison method. The difflib library was used to measure similarity. The user’s engagement was analyzed by averaging the engagement metrics of tweets, retweets, favorites, replies, and posts shared with sentiments and opinions regarding COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination. Result Positive sentiments on COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination dominated, however, the negative sentiments increased during the beginning of the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM). The tweets were dominated by the importance of health protocols (washing hands, keeping distance, and wearing masks). Several types of vaccines were on top of the word count in the vaccine subtopic. Acceptance of the vaccination increased during the studied period, and the fake news was overweighed by the facts. The tweets were dynamic and showed that the engaged topics were changed from the nature of COVID-19 to the vaccination and virus mutation which peaked in the early and middle terms of 2021. The public sentiment and engagement were shifted from hesitancy to anxiety towards the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines, whilst changed again into wariness on an uprising of the delta variant. Conclusion Understanding public sentiment and opinion can help policymakers to plan the best strategy to cope with the pandemic. Positive sentiments and fact-based opinions on COVID-19, and COVID-19 vaccination had been shown predominantly. However, sufficient health literacy levels could yet be predicted and sought for further study.

Latar Belakang: Pola makan tidak sehat dan rendahnya aktivitas fisik di masa pandemi dapat menjadi faktor resiko depresi. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara pola makan dan aktivitas fisik terhadap tingkat depresi di masa pandemi pada pelajar SMA N 1 Manyar Gresik Metode: Jenis penelitian ini observasional dengan desain studi cross-sectional yang dilaksanakan di SMA N 1 Manyar Gresik. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah 78 siswa kelas 12. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan berups simple random sampling. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji Korelasi Kendall untuk mengetahui hubungan antara pola makan dan aktivitas fisik terhadap tingkat depresi. Masing-masing variabel didapatkan dengan menganalisis hasil kuesioner Food Frequency Questionnaire, Food Recall 2x24 jam, International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form, dan Modifikasi Beck Depression Inventory II. Hasil: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat hubungan antara pola makan terhadap tingkat depresi. Pola makan dinilai dari frekuensi jenis makanan yang mendominasi dalam 1 bulan terakhir dan asupan makronutrien. Terdapat hubungan antara frekuensi konsumsi makanan yang mendominasi terhadap tingkat depresi (p=0,003; r=0,319) dan hubungan antara asupan makronutrien terhadap tingkat depresi. Kesimpulan: Hasil penelitian menjelaskan perlunya untuk meningkatkan konsumsi makanan dari kelompok minimally processed foods dengan memperhatikan asupan makronutrien, dan menjalankan aktivitas fisik dalam kategori intensitas sedang hingga tinggi sesuai rekomendasi kelompok usia remaja untuk mencegah depresi.

Background: Indonesia as an agricultural country is still having nutritional problems (stunting and undernutrition) caused by mothers’ lack of knowledge, attitude and practice of eating behavior. Purpose: This research aims to investigate the impact of knowledge, attitude, and practice of eating behavior of mothers of children under five on stunting and undernutrition prevalence in the agricultural communities in Jember. Methods: This cross-sectional research used questionnaires as a method to collect data from respondents i.e. mothers who have toddlers about the knowledge, attitudes and practice of eating behavior. The research was conducted in 2018-2019 in Jember. A total of 414 respondents who met the inclusion criteria (those resided in the study area and were willing to participate in this study) were chosen through random sampling. The data were then analyzed by using Spearman rho’s test to search the effect of the knowledge and attitudes of the mothers of under fives toward stunting and undernutrition. While eating behavior was described based on the results of interviews with respondents on 2x24 hours of food recall and food frequency questionnaires. Results: This study showed that knowledge and attitudes of mothers regarding eating behavior were related to the occurrence of stunting (p = 0.01; p = 0.04) and malnutrition (p = 0.04), except for the attitude variable towards malnutrition (p = 0.81). Data analysis results regarding eating behavior showed that there was still a lack of fulfillment of certain nutrients, both macronutrients (fiber) and micronutrients (Vitamin B1, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Potassium, Sodium, Calcium and Folic Acid.) to the RDA reference which was recorded as severe deficiency in 60-97% of children under five. Conclusion: Adequate knowledge and attitudes of mothers of diet can be a factor that prevents nutritional problems (stunting and malnutrition). The consumption pattern assessed showed that there was still a lack of fulfillment of certain nutrients both macro (fiber) and micronutrients against RDA reference. Further research needs to be done to explore the right promotive and prevention approach based on the lack of nutrition found in each area.

Introduction: Health literacy on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affects people’s capability to ascertain their health and health care quality during the pandemic. The objective of this study was to determine the levels of health literacy about COVID-19 vaccines and vaccinations (Vaccines and Vaccinations literacy-VL) in the Indonesian adult general population, assessing the perceptions of the respondents about current adult immunization and beliefs about vaccinations in general, and analyzing correlations of these variables with the VL levels. Methods: A cross-sectional study using a rapid survey was administered via the Internet. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics; the internal consistency of the VL scales was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient; the inter-correlation between the functional and interactive-critical VL questions, the underlying components (factors) and each question’s load on the components were identified using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA). An alpha level lesser than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Responses to functional- and interactive/ critical- VL questions were acceptable and showed internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.817 and 0.699, respectively), lowest values observed were 0.806 for functional scale and 0.640 for the interactive-critical scale. The PCA demonstrated that there were two components accounting for 52.45% of the total variability. Approximately 60% of respondents were females (n=686). Almost all respondents used the internet to seek information regarding COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccinations. Many used at least one social media actively with 74.4% of respondents sometimes believing the validity of this information. Conclusions: High scores were observed in both functional- and interactive/ critical-VL, and were quite in a balance between sexes in the prior VL and higher in females for the latter; these were also closely related to the educational level and age group. It is crucial to increase public health literacy in managing the pandemic.

Background and aim: The treatment of diabetic ulcers is difficult because of defective blood vessels and frequent co-occurrence of bacterial infections. In a previous study, we found a water fraction of Merremia mammosa (Lour.) (Mm(Lour.)) had beneficial effects on wound healing in diabetic rats. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of different gelling agents added to Mm(Lour.) water fraction gel on wound healing treatment in diabetic rats. Experimental procedure: Diabetic Wistar rats were divided into the following five groups: 1. positive control (Neomycin Sulfate 0.5% and Placenta Extract 10%), 2. negative control (distilled water), and 10% water fraction of Mm(Lour.) extract in 3. HPMC, 4. Carbopol, and 5. CMC Na gelling agents. The wound was made by the Morton method and treatment applied every other day for 25 days, then the wound healing process was observed. Data were observed and analysed using appropriate statistic tools. Results: Histopathology observation, VEGF expression and hydroxyproline levels showed a significant acceleration of wound healing in all treatment groups compared to the negative control group. This study showed all of Mm(Lour.) gel formulations could restore the delayed healing process on wound in diabetic rats and were equally effective in accelerating wound healing. CMC Na was the most preferable because it did not irritate. Conclusion: The results suggest that Mm(Lour.) water fraction in CMC Na gelling agent provided an option to be developed as a topical drug on diabetic wound healing treatment, showed by enhancement of collagen synthesis and angiogenesis.

Recurrent diarrhea is diarrhea that occurs repeatedly within one to three months. Toddler is the highest group suffering of diarrhea. Diarrhea is the second leading cause of death on toddler. This research aims to analyze the effect of risk factors of recurrent diarrhea on toddler in Sumberjambe Health Center Jember Regency. This type of research is observational analytic with case control design. The sample is 50 cases and 50 controls. The sampling technique used consecutive sampling method. The research was conducted in December 2018 to January 2019 using a questionnaire. Data analysis using Chi Square test and Logistic Regression test. Chi Square analysis results are child’s age (p= 0.003), gender (p= 1,000), exclusive breastfeeding (p= 0.044), measles immunization (p= 0.387), nutritional status (p= 0.840), hand nail hygiene (p= 0.395), mother’s age (p= 0.435), mother’s education level (p= 0.263), mother’s knowledge (p= 0.494), hand washing habit (p= 0.684), and family income (p= 0.773). Logistic Regression analysis results are child’s age (p= 0.002) and exclusive breastfeeding (p= 0.499). The conclusions of this study are child’s age and exclusive breastfeeding have influence of recurrent diarrhea on toddler and child's age is the most influential risk factor of recurrent diarrhea on toddler. The suggestion of this research is that it needs to research other risk factors and mothers are required to give exclusive breastfeeding. Keywords: risk factors, recurrent diarrhea, toddler

Latar belakang: Pondok pesantren merupakan tempat berkumpulnya para santri dari berbagai daerah. Tempat ini dikenal memiliki banyak problematika kesehatan, mulai dari kebersihan diri hingga kebersihan lingkungan. Kebersihan lingkungan sekitar maupun di dalam kamar ditentukan oleh kebiasaan sehari-hari santri. Kurangnya kepedulian dalam menjaga kebersihan lingkungan dapat berisiko munculnya penyakit, diantaranya scabies (gudik). Tujuan: untuk mengetahui pengetahuan, sikap dan perilaku santri di kawasan pondok terkait kejadian scabies sebagai analisis dasar pemberian training kader kesehatan. Metode: Ini merupakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pengumpulan data wawancara terstruktur dengan kuesioner. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa-siswi SMA/MA Unggulan Nuris yang tergabung dalam ekstrakurikuler PMR. Penelitian dilakukan Oktober-November 2019 di SMA/MA Unggulan Nuris Jember. Hasil: Hasil studi ini menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden memiliki pengetahuan yang baik terkait kebersihan diri dan lingkungan. Juga sebagian besar sikap mereka cenderung setuju terhadap aktivitas kebersihan diri dan lingkungan. Namun, dalam hasil perilaku/kebiasaan sehari-hari mereka, terdapat beberapa hal yang perlu menjadi perhatian. Sebagian besar (73%) santri saling meminjam sarung/kerudung dengan temannya; dan sebagian besar (57%) masih sesekali saling pinjam pakaian dengan temannya; juga masih ada yang saling meminjam peralatan mandi pribadi seperti sabun mandi, sikat gigi, dan handuk; hampir sebagian (43%) siswa menggunakan pakaian yang sama lebih dari 1 hari; hampir sebagian (47%) juga tidak mandi setelah beraktivitas/berolahraga; dan hampir sebagian (47%) hanya sesekali menebah tempat tidur saat setelah maupun hendak ditiduri. Oleh karena itu kebiasaan tersebut perlu diubah. Perilaku dapat diubah dengan adanya keteladanan dari sesama santri yang ditunjuk menjadi kader kesehatan agar santri tahu, mau dan mampu hidup bersih dan sehat. Selanjutnya dilakukan training terhadap anggota PMR yang kemudian menjadi kader kesehatan dalam upaya pengendalian kebersihan lingkungan dan menekan angka kejadian scabies di pondok pesantren. Kesimpulan dan rekomendasi: meskipun memiliki pengetahuan dan sikap yang cukup baik, namun beberapa perilaku santri masih berpotensi dalam meningkatnya kejadian scabies atau penyakit kulit lainnya. Diharapkan ada pemantauan berkala terhadap kebersihan lingkungan dan perilaku santri setelah dilakukan training dan dibentuknya kader kesehatan.

Nutrition status in the first thousand days of life (FTDL) of 270 days during pregnancy and 730 days in the infant's first life is a critical period, since the resulting consequences are permanent and irreparable. There are still many problems in the group of FTDL around the campus of University of Jember which require intensive handling, such as stunting, low energy protein, anemia, underweight and etc. Methods of improving the quality of nutrition for the FTDL group can be done by increasing knowledge about nutrition through counseling by utilizing various media (posters, brochures, videos, demos and presentation slides). This study aims to determine how far is the effectiveness of nutrition counseling in improving knowledge and attitude awareness on nutrition problems. The method used was to give counselling on nutrition in the target groups (members of Posyandu Catleya A and B) and assessed changes by comparing the level of nutritional knowledge and attitude before and after receiving counseling. The results showed there were significant differences in the level of nutritional knowledge and attitude between before and after the counseling about nutrition and food processing technology. It can be concluded that this method is quite effective to raise awareness of FTDL group on nutrition problems. Keywords: food insecurity, nutrition counseling, nutrition awareness

The population of type 2 diabetes mellitus sufferer continuously increases due to the increase of insulin resistance characterised by the rise of the secretion insulin. Insulin resistance is affected by several factors such as the lack of physical activity, obesity, and unhealthy diet. One of the characteristics of the unhealthy diet is the high consumption of carbohydrates.Whereas Indonesian prefers to have carbohydrate sources from food which has high glycemic index such as rice so thatit makes the glucose in the blood increased rapidly. This condition causes more and faster insulin secretion and can affect insulin resistance. The purpose of this study is to know the effectiveness of herbal forte rice as a substitute of the main carbohydrate in the state of hyperinsulinemia suffered by 15 patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Puskesmas (community health center) Sumbersari Jember. This study is a clinical trial with a quasi experimental method and crossover design. In this study, the sample is interviewed by characteristics (age, gender) and the early consumption patterns using 24-hour food recall three times at different times. Samples acted as a control group once the experimental group. The control group did not receive any treatment, while the experimental group received the herbal forte rice as much as 100 grams for 7 consecutive days in the morning (at 06.30 am). After washing out period for 9 days, experimental group switched into control group. At the end of the period (7 days), data of fasting blood glucose and fasting insulin were collected then counted by HOMA-IR formula. The result of the study based on the paired t test p=0.001 in comparison to the state of the control and experimental group. The conclusion of this study is there is a changing state of insulin resistance with the replacement of food based on glycemic index.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases with hyperglycemia characteristic that happens because anomaly of insulin secretion or insulin activity. Insulin deficiency in type 2 DM caused dislipidemia. Red rice are contain fiber, essential fatty acid and Gamma Amino Butiric Acid (GABA). This research intended to know the effectiveness of red rice to decrease total cholesterol levels of patient with type 2 DM. Clinical test with quasi experimental and research design non randomized control-group pretest-postest design was used for the research method. Total samples of this research are 36 samples. The treated group was given the red rice during 6 days on breakfast and dinner, while the control group did not have any intervention. The research showed that average cholesterol levels in the beginning and finale of treated group was 235,69 mg/dL and 198,56 mg/dL, while average cholesterol levels in the beginning and finale of control group was 235,72 mg/dL and 256,50 mg/dL. Background Sentiments and opinions regarding COVID-19 and the COVID-19 vaccination on Indonesian-language Twitter are scarcely reported in one comprehensive study, and thus were aimed at our study. We also analyzed fake news and facts, and Twitter engagement to understand people’s perceptions and beliefs that determine public health literacy. Methods We collected 3,489,367 tweets data from January 2020 to August 2021. We analyzed factual and fake news using the string comparison method. The difflib library was used to measure similarity. The user’s engagement was analyzed by averaging the engagement metrics of tweets, retweets, favorites, replies, and posts shared with sentiments and opinions regarding COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination. Result Positive sentiments on COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccination dominated, however, the negative sentiments increased during the beginning of the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM). The tweets were dominated by the importance of health protocols (washing hands, keeping distance, and wearing masks). Several types of vaccines were on top of the word count in the vaccine subtopic. Acceptance of the vaccination increased during the studied period, and the fake news was overweighed by the facts. The tweets were dynamic and showed that the engaged topics were changed from the nature of COVID-19 to the vaccination and virus mutation which peaked in the early and middle terms of 2021. The public sentiment and engagement were shifted from hesitancy to anxiety towards the safety and effectiveness of the vaccines, whilst changed again into wariness on an uprising of the delta variant. Conclusion Understanding public sentiment and opinion can help policymakers to plan the best strategy to cope with the pandemic. Positive sentiments and fact-based opinions on COVID-19, and COVID-19 vaccination had been shown predominantly. However, sufficient health literacy levels could yet be predicted and sought for further study.

Introduction: Health literacy on the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) affects people’s capability to ascertain their health and health care quality during the pandemic. The objective of this study was to determine the levels of health literacy about COVID-19 vaccines and vaccinations (Vaccines and Vaccinations literacy-VL) in the Indonesian adult general population, assessing the perceptions of the respondents about current adult immunization and beliefs about vaccinations in general, and analyzing correlations of these variables with the VL levels. Methods: A cross-sectional study using a rapid survey was administered via the Internet. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics; the internal consistency of the VL scales was evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient; the inter-correlation between the functional and interactive-critical VL questions, the underlying components (factors) and each question’s load on the components were identified using a Principal Component Analysis (PCA). An alpha level lesser than 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Responses to functional- and interactive/ critical- VL questions were acceptable and showed internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.817 and 0.699, respectively), lowest values observed were 0.806 for functional scale and 0.640 for the interactive-critical scale. The PCA demonstrated that there were two components accounting for 52.45% of the total variability. Approximately 60% of respondents were females (n=686). Almost all respondents used the internet to seek information regarding COVID-19 and COVID-19 vaccinations. Many used at least one social media actively with 74.4% of respondents sometimes believing the validity of this information. Conclusions: High scores were observed in both functional- and interactive/ critical-VL, and were quite in a balance between sexes in the prior VL and higher in females for the latter; these were also closely related to the educational level and age group. It is crucial to increase public health literacy in managing the pandemic.
