PURPOSE: The International Alliance of Academies of Childhood Disability created a COVID-19 Task Force with the goal of understanding the global impact of COVID-19 on children with disabilities and their families. The aim of this paper is to synthesize existing evidence describing the impact of COVID-19 on people with disabilities, derived from surveys conducted across the globe. METHODS: A descriptive environmental scan of surveys was conducted. From June to November 2020, a global call for surveys addressing the impact of COVID-19 on disability was launched. To identify gaps and overlaps, the content of the surveys was compared to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health. RESULTS: Forty-nine surveys, involving information from more than 17,230 participants around the world were collected. Overall, surveys identified that COVID-19 has negatively impacted several areas of functioning - including mental health, and human rights of people with disabilities and their families worldwide. CONCLUSION: Globally, the surveys highlight that impact of COVID-19 on mental health of people with disabilities, caregivers, and professionals continues to be a major issue. Rapid dissemination of collected information is essential for ameliorating the impact of COVID-19 across the globe.

We investigated factors related to postural sway during sit-to-stand movement in children and adolescents with Down syndrome (DS). Our assessment of participants followed the biopsychosocial model. Body function and structure were represented by muscle strength and postural sway during sit-to-stand movement, which were assessed by manual muscle testing and kinetics analysis, respectively. The Gross Motor Function Measure and Pediatric Balance Scale depicted the activity component. In addition, we included these relevant contextual factors: age, Home Observation for Measurement of the Environment, family income, and maternal schooling. A correlation analysis verified a suspected association between biopsychosocial and postural sway variables. There were significant separated correlations between postural sway in the three phases of the sit-to-stand movement, and age, GMFM-88 dimension D, and muscle strength. Thus, postural control in sit-to-stand movement was related to biopsychosocial factors involving different life aspects of children and adolescents with DS, and these factors should be addressed in rehabilitation therapy intended to improve postural control among these individuals.

Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the cognitive-motor dual-task costs (DTCs) on postural sway of children with typical development (TD) and children with cerebral palsy (CP) during the sit-to-stand movement. Methods Twenty children with TD (mean age = 9.35 years) and 17 children with CP (mean age = 8.29 years) randomly performed 3 test conditions: simple motor task, low-complexity cognitive-motor dual-task, and high-complexity cognitive-motor dual-task. The sit-to-stand movement was divided into 3 phases for data analysis: preparation (P1), rising (P2), and stabilization (P3). For each of these phases, the DTCs were calculated by the percentage change in the center of pressure area of sway, velocity of sway, and duration variables between the simple and dual-task conditions. Analysis of variance was applied to test the group, task conditions, and interaction effects. Results Children with CP had lower DTC than children with TD in area of sway in P1 and P2 variables; anteroposterior velocity of sway in P1, P2, and P3; and duration in P3. Children with TD had higher DTC in the high-complexity cognitive-motor dual-task than in the low complexity one. Children with CP did not show adaptations between the dual-task conditions, showing no differences in DTCs. Conclusion The simultaneous performance of a motor task and a cognitive task seems to affect children with CP and children with TD differently, but the effects depend on the specific demands of each task. These results demonstrate the importance of rehabilitation actions to place demands involving a variety of postural sway strategies. Impact DTCs are different for children with TD and children with CP. Assessment and rehabilitation strategies must take into account the postural sway behavior of these children.

Considering that somatosensory impairments may impact motor performance in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP), a better understanding of these relations is relevant to planning interventions. To synthesize research evidence to date on the interrelationships between the somatosensory functions of touch and proprioception with motor functions in persons with CP, we systematically searched Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Medline databases for studies relating these variables that were published in English from the inception of these databases to November 2020. We targeted the following content categories in our literature search: (a) cerebral palsy; (b) sensory functions; (c) tactile functions; (d) proprioception functions; and (e) motor functions. The selection, data extraction, and methodological quality assessment of these studies were performed in duplicate. We retrieved and analyzed information regarding the studies’ methodological approaches and synthesized results. The 11 studies that met our inclusion criteria showed that, in individuals with CP, impairments in tactile discrimination, proprioception, and stereognosis are related to motor functions in terms of overall manual ability, grip strength, postural control and locomotion. Thus, clinical practitioners should attend to somatosensory aspects of motor impairment in individuals with CP. More research is needed to clarify the direction of these associations.

The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted face-to-face health services, leveraging telehealth strategies. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate, from a parent’s perspective, the feasibility of a remote assessment of functioning in children with developmental disabilities during the pandemic and related contextual factors, based on how parents carry out the assessment. Parents of children with developmental disabilities (mean age = 7.56 ± 3.68) responded to a remote assessment via electronic forms and telephone interview. We analyzed parents’ perspectives about the feasibility of the assessment. We also tested the association between feasibility score and sociodemographics/pandemic experience. Regression analysis tested if children’s functioning characteristics predicted feasibility. A total of 57 mothers completed the remote assessment, and more than 95% did not report difficulties in accessing/responding to electronic forms. They scored remote assessment as easy and feasible, and reported no difficulties with telephone interview. Greater feasibility rates were related to lower maternal age (rho Spearman = −0.290; p = 0.029). The model shows that children’s characteristics predicted 20.4% of feasibility (p < 0.005). Remote assessment showed to be feasible. Younger mothers might consider easier-to-use technologies, beyond considering remote assessment more viable. These results can guide the next steps in research and remote clinical practice.

Objective The World Health Organization’s (WHO) Rehabilitation 2030 initiative is working to develop a set of evidence-based interventions selected from clinical practice guidelines for Universal Health Coverage. As an initial step, the WHO Rehabilitation Programme and Cochrane Rehabilitation convened global content experts to conduct systematic reviews of clinical practice guidelines for 20 chronic health conditions, including cerebral palsy. Data Sources Six scientific databases (Pubmed, EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, PEDro, CINAHL), Google Scholar, guideline databases, and professional society websites were searched. Study Selection A search strategy was implemented to identify clinical practice guidelines for cerebral palsy across the lifespan published within 10 years in English. Standardized spreadsheets were provided for process documentation, data entry, and tabulation of the Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation (AGREE II) tool. Each step was completed by 2 or more group members, with disagreements resolved by discussion. Initially, 13 guidelines were identified. Five did not meet the AGREE II established threshold or criteria for inclusion. Further review by the WHO eliminated 3 more, resulting in 5 remaining guidelines. Data Extraction All 339 recommendations from the 5 final guidelines, with type (assessment, intervention, or service), strength, and quality of evidence, were extracted, and an International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Functioning (ICF) category was assigned to each. Data Synthesis Most guidelines addressed mobility functions, with comorbid conditions and lifespan considerations also included. However, most were at the level of body functions. No guideline focused specifically on physical or occupational therapies to improve activity and participation, despite their prevalence in rehabilitation. Conclusions Despite the great need for high quality guidelines, this review demonstrated the limited number and range of interventions and lack of explicit use of the ICF during development of guidelines identified here. A lack of guidelines, however, does not necessarily indicate a lack of evidence. Further evidence review and development based on identified gaps and stakeholder priorities are needed.

Motor disorders in cerebral palsy (CP) are often accompanied by disturbances of sensation and impaired somatosensory functions have been reported in individuals with CP. To test the feasibility of a sensorimotor training protocol for lower limbs in children and adolescents with unilateral and bilateral CP, and to analyze the preliminary effects of this training on sensory and motor variables. This is a single-blind, prospective phase I feasibility randomized protocol. A total of twenty participants with uni or bilateral cerebral palsy, GMFCS level I-III, ages 5 to 20 years will be recruited. The LoSenseT protocol is composed of tactile and proprioceptive activities in a child-friendly format. An original qualitative feedback questionnaire was developed to assess the protocol feasibility. Additionally, proprioception, tactile discrimination, postural stability, and gait parameters will be assessed. The LoSenseT protocol can support the implementation of interventions targeting lower limbs somatosensory impairments in individuals with CP.

Neste artigo, faço a apresentação de alguns materiais e gestos que compõem o ofício de fazer rendas de bilros em uma associação de rendeiras em Ilha Grande, Piauí, Brasil. Concentro-me em descrever os desenhos feitos pelas rendeiras nos moldes de papelão e, a partir desses desenhos, trago os meus próprios para mostrar alguns movimentos do ofício de rendar. Por fim, descrevo um experimento que fiz com rendas de bilros a partir da técnica de relevo seco ou marcas d´água para tornar visíveis algumas linhas dos desenhos das rendas de bilros prontas.

Postural control assessment in children with Down syndrome (DS) may contribute to understanding the impact of impairments in Body Structures and Functions on Activities and Participation, providing a biopsychosocial approach to support clinical practice. The present study aimed to systematically review the literature addressing postural control in children and adolescents with Down syndrome, with a focus in the interactions among the components of the International Classification of Functioning (ICF).We conducted a tailored search inWe identified 20 full-texts that fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Children and adolescents with DS showed lower postural stability across studies. The ICF components most commonly addressed were Body Structure and Function and Activity. Although the studies measured these components, they did not analyze the interrelationships of components when describing the determinants of postural control in this population.Overall, the studies indicate that children and adolescents with DS show decreased postural stability and greater vulnerability to sensory changes than their typical peers. There is a lack of studies using the biopsychosocial approach. Only few studies have related the activity level of the participants with the variables of postural control. None of them addressed components of Participation and Environmental Factors. The poor methodological quality of the included studies limits the translation of results to clinical practice. Further studies addressing children with disabilities, such as DS, should utilize the ICF framework, thus providing a biopsychosocial approach of health in these individuals.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONChildren with Down syndrome show decreased postural stability and greater vulnerability to sensory changes than their typical peers.In clinical practice, when assessing postural control of individuals with DS, rehabilitation professionals should not only address components of Body Structures and Functions, but also investigate their impact on Activity and Participation.Training of postural control should address strategies that include natural environments and participation situations.The biopsychosocial approach provided by the ICF framework should be implemented in clinical practice.

Introduccion: La Medida de la Participacion y del Ambiente - Ninos pequenos (YC-PEM) es una herramienta que evalua la frecuencia, el envolvimiento y el impacto del ambiente en la participacion de ninos entre cero y cinco anos de edad, con y sin discapacidad, en el hogar, guarderia/preescuela y comunidad. Objetivo: traducir y adaptar culturalmente la YC-PEM para su uso en Brasil. Metodo: El proceso consistio en seis pasos: (1) Traduccion del ingles-norteamericano al portugues-brasileno; (2) Sintesis de traducciones; (3) Revision del Comite de Expertos; (4) Entrevista cognitiva con padres/tutores; (5) retro traduccion; (6) Consolidacion de la version final. Resultados: Concomitantemente con la traduccion, fueron necesarias adaptaciones para facilitar la lectura e interpretacion de la herramienta. Las instrucciones para completar han cambiado. Algunos items relacionados con la participacion y el entorno fueron cambiados y recibieron otros ejemplos mas apropiados para el contexto brasileno. Conclusion: YC-PEM Brasil puede ayudar a los cuidadores y profesionales a identificar el nivel de participacion de ninos entre cero y cinco anos y la necesidad de intervencion dirigida a mejorar su participacion en el ambiente. A gestão do conhecimento tem vindo a representar um papel estratégico nas organizações, como a Marinha Portuguesa, nomeadamente com apoio de tecnologias de informação. Com efeito, urge a necessidade da criação de métodos que permitam aos navegantes acompanhar a evolução das tecnologias e serviços marítimos, bem como as alterações a normas e regulamentos, garantindo a constante atualização e confiança dos conteúdos. Em 2018, um estudo realizado na comunidade de navegadores da Marinha Portuguesa identificou a necessidade da criação de um repositório de conhecimento, de modo a permitir a centralização de informação e a partilha e disseminação de conhecimento. Num estudo subsequente realizado em 2019, foi alertada a necessidade de atualização do manual de navegação publicado pelo Instituto Hidrográfico. Estes constrangimentos incentivaram a criação de um manual de navegação digital: o WikiNav. A idealização do WikiNav perspetivou o desenvolvimento de uma plataforma digital que potencie os processos de criação e disseminação de conhecimento nas comunidades de prática do domínio da navegação, recorrendo a meios da era das tecnologias colaborativas: a Web 2.0. Foi construído em formato wiki, de modo a permitir a partilha e disseminação de conhecimento, a discussão entre utilizadores e a centralização de recursos. Para a avaliação do protótipo, foram desenvolvidos conteúdos de RIEAM e efetuados testes de usabilidade, de satisfação de experiência de utilizador e sessões de grupo de foco a futuros potenciais utilizadores. O protótipo apresentou-se eficaz e atrativo. Salientou-se o agrado dos participantes pela interface e pelas funcionalidades de consulta de conteúdos, apontados como uma vantagem para a gestão do conhecimento na comunidade. Perspetiva-se a continuação do desenvolvimento através da implementação definitiva do WikiNav Knowledge management has been a strategic role in organizations, such as the Portuguese Navy, with the support of information technologies. In fact, there is an urgent need for the creation of methods enabling sailors to monitor the evolution of maritime technologies and services, as well as changes to standards and regulations, ensuring constant updating and confidence. In 2018, a study conducted in the navigator’s community identified the need to create a knowledge repository to enable information centralization and knowledge sharing and dissemination. Also, in an analysis carried out in 2019, it was pointed out the need to update the portuguese navigation manual. These constraints encouraged the creation of a digital navigation manual: WikiNav. The idealization of WikiNav has perpetuated the development of a digital platform that enhances the processes of creation and dissemination of knowledge in the communities of practice in the field of navigation, using means of the era of collaborative technologies: Web 2.0. It was built in wiki format to allow knowledge sharing, discussion among users, dissemination of knowledge and centralization of resources. For the evaluation of the prototype, COLREG content was developed and usability tests, user experience questionnaires and focus group sessions were performed by future potential users. The prototype was effective and attractive. The participants were pleased with the interface and content consultation functionalities, which were pointed out as an advantage for knowledge management in the community. The development should be continued through the definitive implementation of WikiNav.

Orientador: Maria Suely Kofes, Fabiana Bruno Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas Resumo: A partir de minha pesquisa a respeito do processo de confecção das rendas de bilros na Casa das Rendeiras, em Ilha Grande, Piauí, emergem as questões: "Como narrar o fazer das rendas de bilros de modo a trazer minhas observações e descrições sem tornar o processo estanque e previamente controlado?"; "Como mostrar os movimentos do fazer?". Para respondê-las, tive que pensar um texto que pudesse expressar alguns movimentos emaranhados das rendeiras com os materiais: o ato de operar com as linhas dos desenhos no papelão, enquanto guias na condução das rendeiras e os movimentos de troca de bilros entrelaçando as linhas de algodão, formando os pontos e gerando uma superfície tecida de renda. Na pesquisa segui os materiais, no intuito de mostrar modos de conhecer as coisas e algumas relações que elas engendram. Apoiando-me nos conceitos de Ingold (2007; 2011; 2013) como os de fazer, linhas, movimentos, superfícies, materiais, traços e gestos e de uma antropologia gráfica, experimento, na pesquisa, compor diferentes grafias na construção do texto e evidenciar a importância da discussão. E contar como essas questões e observações teceram a minha própria tese. Aqui acionando noções de forma e desenho, intento realizar um experimento de abrir linhas de desenhos de rendas com o intuito de evidenciar algumas formas visíveis do movimento de rendar possíveis de serem conhecidas a partir do processo de feitura das rendas. O desenho kene e as formas nas perspectivas de Lagrou (2007;2013) e Belaunde (2011; 2013;2014) orientam-me para uma associação entre os desenhos e as rendas de bilros envolvendo o corpo feminino Abstract: Based on my research about the process of making bobbin lace at Casa das Rendeiras in Ilha Grande, Piauí, I started questioning "How can I narrate the making of bobbin laces in order to bring my observations and descriptions without making this process seem stagnant and previously controlled?" "How can I show the movements of doing?" This requested me to think a text that could express some tangled movements of the lacemakers with the materials: the act of operating with the lines of the drawings in the cardboard as guides in the conduction of the lacemakers and the movements of interchange of bobbins interlacing the lines of cotton, forming the points and generating a woven surface of lace. In my investigations I followed the materials in order to show ways of knowing things and some relationships that they engender. Drawing upon Ingold's concepts (2007, 2011, 2013): making, lines, movements, surfaces, materials, traits and gestures and graphic anthropology, I experimented, in the research, to compose different spellings in the construction of the text and to evidence the importance of the discussion. And how these questions and observations made my own thesis. Working out notions of form and drawing, here, I attempted an experiment of opening lines of lace designs in order to bring some visible forms of the lacemaking movement possible to be known from the process of making bobbin lace. To investigate the effect of physical therapy interventions on spatiotemporal gait parameters in children with cerebral palsy.Six databases were searched: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Science Direct, Lilacs, and Scopus. Two independent reviewers worked on primary study selection based on titles, abstracts, and full text reading. We included randomized controlled trials investigating the role of therapeutic interventions on gait kinematics in children with cerebral palsy. The independent reviewers extracted information about study population, intervention type, main outcomes, and methodological quality according to PEDro Scale. The body of evidence was synthesized through GRADE.Twenty-six studies were found addressing the following treatment categories: functional electrical stimulation, transcranial stimulation, gait training, muscular strengthening, vibratory platform training, and serial casting. A moderate level of evidence was identified for vibratory platform training, gait training, transcranial stimulation (positive effect), and isolated muscle strengthening (negative effect) in relation to gait velocity. Electrical stimulation showed a moderate level of evidence regarding stride length. The evidence for other outcomes was of low or very low quality.Vibratory platform, gait training, electrical stimulation, and transcranial stimulation were effective to improve spatiotemporal gait parameters, especially velocity in children with cerebral palsy.Implication for rehabilitationImprovement and maintenance of gait of children with cerebral palsy is a great challenge to rehabilitation professionalsVibratory platform, gait training, electrical stimulation, and transcranial stimulation improve gait parameters.Isolated strength training was not effective to improve gait parameters in Cerebral Palsy.Long-term effect of most techniques on gait parameters until unclear.

Aim: To investigate the effects of manipulating visual information and the compliance of the support surface on the area of sway and dynamical trajectories of center-of-pressure (CoP) in children with CP and children with typical development during static sitting. Methods: 32 typical children, 14 children with mild CP and 12 with moderate-to-severe CP were tested for CoP sway during static sitting under four sensory conditions: (1) eyes open on a rigid surface; (2) eyes closed on a rigid surface; (3) eyes open on foam; (4) eyes closed on foam. Results: Children with moderate-to-severe CP showed greater regularity and local stability of dynamical CoP trajectories and lower complexity in their motor patterns than typical children and children with mild CP. Moreover, removing vision and sitting on a compliant surface reduced the regularity of CoP trajectories. Conclusion: Children with CP were able to adjust the structure and complexity of their postural control responses to sensory challenges, although the structure of their postural responses was poorer than in typical children.

Aim To investigate the role of the severity of manual impairment and of hand dominance on postural sway during anticipatory [APA] and compensatory [CPA] postural adjustments in a seated manual reaching task performed by children with cerebral palsy (CP) and typical children (TC). Methods We tested 26 TC (mean age 9.5 ± 2.1 years) and 29 children with CP (age 9.6 ± 3 years) classified based on manual impairment levels as mild (Manual Ability Classification System [MACS] I; n = 18) or moderate-to-severe (MACS II-III, n = 11). Participants were instructed to reach towards a target using their dominant vs. non-dominant arm while sitting on a force-plate. Center of pressure (CoP) sway was analyzed during APA and CPA. Results For all groups, using the non-dominant arm determined greater amplitude and velocity of CoP sway in CPA. Children with moderate-to-severe manual impairment showed greater sway during APA and CPA compared to mild impairment and TC groups. Conclusion More severe manual impairment resulted in higher sway during the anticipatory and compensatory phases of the reaching task. Using the non-dominant arm resulted in greater compensatory adjustments during reaching.

Introdução: A Medida da Participação e do Ambiente - Crianças e Jovens (PEM-CY) é um instrumento que avalia a participação desses indivíduos nos ambientes da casa, da escola e da comunidade, a partir da percepção de seus pais e/ou responsáveis. Objetivo: Adaptar culturalmente a PEM-CY para o português do Brasil. Método: O processo de adaptação transcultural foi composto por cinco estágios: (I) Adaptação inicial para o português do Brasil; (II) Síntese das versões; (III) Retrotradução; (IV) Comitê de especialistas; (V) Compreensão pelos pais e retrotradução para aprovação final. Resultados: As adaptações implementadas visaram favorecer a fluência na leitura, bem como facilitar a interpretação e compreensão do questionário. O título sofreu alteração e alguns termos foram substituídos nas instruções para pesquisa. Mais exemplos foram adicionados a algumas atividades das seções de participação e ambiente dos três ambientes, e algumas palavras foram alteradas para expressões mais equivalentes à linguagem popular. Conclusão: A versão adaptada para o português do Brasil disponibiliza um instrumento inovador de avaliação da participação e do ambiente de crianças e jovens que poderá ser utilizado em diferentes cenários de prática e pesquisa.

Introduction: The International Classification of Functionality, Disability and Health (ICF) determines that for any health condition, functionality is the result of the multidirectional relationship between the positive aspects of the components of body structures and functions, activities, participation and contextual factors, encompassing personal and environmental factors. Objective: To translate and culturally adapt the “F-Words Tools” into Brazilian Portuguese. Methods: Permission to translate was granted by the authors. After reading and understanding the instruments, a researcher performed a non-certified translation into Brazilian Portuguese. Next, the back translation into English was done by a specialist in both languages without prior knowledge of the original versions. The result of the back translation was sent to the authors of the instrument for verification of semantics and content. Based on the authors' recommendations and the results of translation analyses, there was no need for cultural adaptation. Results: The back translation was approved by the authors, indicating that the Brazilian Portuguese version of all instruments was adequate. The translated titles are: Termo de Compromisso (Agreement), Colagem (Collage), Perfil (Profile) and Folha de Metas (Goal Sheet). The ICF framework was entitled: “The ICF model and My Favorite Words”. The material is available free of charge at the CanChild website. Conclusion: The translation into Brazilian Portuguese allows materials to be used in Brazil to disseminate the concepts of the ICF and the “F-words” in clinical and family settings. Resumo Introdução: A Classificação Internacional de Funciona-lidade, Incapacidade e Saúde (CIF) determina que para qualquer condição de saúde, a funcionalidade é o resultado da relação multidirecional entre os aspectos positivos dos componentes de estruturas e funções do corpo, atividades, participação e fatores contextuais, que englobam os fatores pessoais e ambientais. Objetivo: Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente as “F-Words Tools” para o português brasileiro. Métodos: A tradução foi autorizada pelos autores. Após leitura e entendimento dos instrumentos, uma tradução livre para o português brasileiro foi realizada por uma pesquisadora. Posteriormente, realizou-se a retro-tradução para o inglês por um especialista em ambos os idiomas e sem conhecimento prévio das versões originais. O resultado da retro-tradução foi enviado aos autores do instrumento para verificação de semântica e de conteúdo. Resultados: A aprovação da retro-tradução foi obtida pelos autores, indicando que a versão em português brasileiro de todos os instrumentos estava adequada. Os títulos traduzidos são: Termo de Compromisso (Agreement), Colagem (Collage), Perfil (Profile) e Folha de Metas (Goal Sheet). O modelo da CIF intitulou-se: “O modelo da CIF e Minhas Palavras Favoritas”. O material está disponibilizado gratuitamente no site do CanChild. Não foi necessária adaptação cultural, segundo recomendação dos autores e o conteúdo dos instrumentos traduzidos. Conclusão: A tradução para o português brasileiro possibilita o uso desses materiais no Brasil, de modo a disseminar os conceitos da CIF e das “Minhas Palavras Favoritas” em âmbitos clínicos e familiares.

Introduction Social isolation and lifestyle changes provoked by the COVID-19 pandemic have negatively affected the level of physical activity of the elderly people. Objective To evaluate the available evidence related to the level of physical activity (PA) of elderly people during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods This is a systematic review, registered on PROSPERO (CRD42021241116), which included cross-sectional and cohort studies. Embase, Pubmed, Cochrane, Web of Science and Scopus databases were used to search for the studies. Finally, the New Castle-Ottawa Quality Assessment scale was used to measure the quality of the studies. Results 25 studies were found, being 14 cross-sectional and 11 cohort studies. The studies showed that the elderly population was highly affected in relation to the level of physical activity and lifestyle during restrictions, quarantine and lockdowns caused by the COVID-19. There was a significant reduction in physical activity levels, leading to declines in physical fitness and increased sedentary lifestyle, factors directly related to the increase in frailty in this population. Conclusion The level of physical activity in the elderly population decreased during the quarantine period of COVID-19 worldwide. Strategies to maintain physical condition must be encouraged with physical exercises that meets the needs of the elderly in the current pandemic scenario, in order to maintain and improve the health of this population.

Children with congenital Zika syndrome (CZS) present severe motor disability and can benefit from early powered mobility. The Go Zika Go project uses modified ride-on toy cars, which may advance the body functions, activities, and participation of children. This paper describes the study protocol aiming to assess the feasibility of a modified ride-on car intervention for children with CZS in Brazil. A mixed-methods design with a multiple 1-week baseline, 3-month intervention, and 1-month follow-up will be implemented. Modified ride-on car training sessions will be conducted three times a week at the participants’ home or in the clinic. The primary outcome will be a narrative description of study feasibility (photovoice method, focus groups, parent feasibility questionnaire and assessment of learning powered mobility). Secondary outcomes will be switch activation, driving sessions journal, social-cognitive interactions, mobility (pediatric evaluation of disability inventory computer adaptive test), goal attainment scaling (GAS), and participation (young children’s participation and environment measure). Go Zika Go is expected to be viable and to improve function, activity, and participation of children with CZS, providing a low-cost, evidence-based rehabilitation option that will be relevant to early child development in a global perspective.

Background To verify the effect of dual-task on postural oscillation during sit-to-stand movement in children with Cerebral Palsy. Methods 17 children with spastic unilateral cerebral palsy and 20 typically-developing children, aged 5 to 12 years, performed the following tasks: Simple task: sit-to-stand with arms crossed against the chest; bimanual dual-task: sit-to-stand while carrying a tray; unimanual dual-task: sit-to-stand while holding a plastic cup with one hand. For data analysis, sit-to-stand was divided in three phases: preparation (phase 1), rising (phase 2), and stabilization (phase 3). Postural control was measured using a force plate, and the variables analyzed were: area, anterior-posterior and medial-lateral velocity, and STS duration. Analysis of variance was applied to test the effects of group; task conditions and interactions. Findings Children with cerebral palsy presented higher values of postural oscillation when compared to their typical pairs. Bimanual and Unimanual dual tasks presented greater postural oscillation values in sit-to-stand phase 1 compared to simple task. In bimanual dual-task, children with cerebral palsy presented lower values of velocity in phases 3, and greater postural oscillation and duration of the task when compared to single-task and unimanual dual-tasks. I. Interpretation The insertion of a secondary task seems to interfere differently children with cerebral palsy, depending on the specific demands of each task. Thus, the importance of inserting dual tasks in the interventions is emphasized, considering that they are executed extensively in the day to day, and can act as facilitators or challenge in the execution of functional tasks.

AIM To explore cortical activation during bimanual tasks and functional correlates in unilateral cerebral palsy (CP). METHOD This cross-sectional study included eight participants with unilateral CP (six females, two males; mean age [SD] 20y 10mo [5y 10mo], 13y 8mo-31y 6mo) in Manual Ability Classification System levels II to III and nine age-matched participants with typical development (seven females, two males; mean age [SD] 17y 8mo [5y 7mo], 9y 4mo-24y 2mo). They performed bimanual symmetric squeezing (BSS) and bimanual asymmetric squeezing (BAS) tasks at 1Hz, and a pouring task with dominant hand (DPour) and a pouring task with non-dominant hand (NDPour) at 0.67Hz, all while a custom array of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) optodes were placed over their sensorimotor area. Aim To investigate suit-orthosis effects on postural sway during anticipatory and compensatory postural adjustments (APA and CPA, respectively) in a seated reaching task performed by children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods Twenty-nine children were divided according to Manual Ability Classification System (MACS) I and II-III. Participants were instructed to reach forward toward an object both in a no-suit condition and in a suit-orthosis condition. Results Using the suit-orthosis, children at MACS II-III decreased velocity of center-of-pressure (CoP) sway during APA, whereas children at MACS I increased the anterior-posterior CoP displacement during CPA. Conclusion Suit-orthosis improved postural stability in children at MACS II-III during APA. The suit may assist with arm function control during postural sway when preparing to reach for objects. Clinical implications Suit-orthoses in therapy should be individually prescribed considering the intended activity and person's motor impairment.

The outbreak of Zika in Brazil almost 3 years ago had harmful medical, financial, and social consequences for children and their families. It also significantly increased the statistics of Brazilian children with disabilities being followed up in rehabilitation centers. Actions promoting the use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) framework are encouraged in view of the complex health needs identified in this population, which cover all areas of functioning, and gain special relevance when it comes to a vulnerable context. This perspective article discusses the challenges related to the implementation of the ICF in rehabilitation services for children with congenital syndrome.

Introduction Based on the assumption that motor actions result from the interaction between cognitive, perceptual, mechanical and neurological mechanisms, neuromotor dysfunctions are expected to impair central coordination processes required to perform dual-tasks. The aim of the present work was to systematically review the literature concerning the effects of dual-task in the activities performed by children with neuromotor dysfunctions. Evidence acquisition A tailored search strategy in relevant databases was conducted by two independent reviewers in August 2018 seeking for online articles published in English evaluating dual-task (motor-motor, cognitive-cognitive or cognitive-motor) effects on activities in subjects with neuromotor dysfunctions younger than 18 years. The following data were extracted: category of dual-task paradigm (motor-motor; cognitive-cognitive; cognitive-motor), primary and secondary tasks, study methods, methodological quality of the studies, and research gaps in the literature. Evidence synthesis We identified 13 full-text reports that fulfilled the predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Conclusions There are a few high-quality studies addressing dual-task effects on activities performed by children with neuromotor dysfunctions. These children show greater susceptibility to dual-task costs than typical ones. There is a lack of studies addressing children with CP and Down Syndrome, which are highly prevalent and commonly seen in clinical settings. Thus, dual-task effects in children with neuromotor dysfunctions remain a wide research field, with need for further studies to fill in the existing gaps.

Aims: To compare the performance of children with mild and moderate-to-severe cerebral palsy (CP) on the Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS), Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM), and on center-of-pressure variables; to establish the discriminant ability of these tools to predict severity of motor impairment in CP; and to investigate the criterion validity of the TIS. To assess age-related changes in postural sway during sit-to-stand (STS) in typical children (TC) and children with mild cerebral palsy (CP).Thirty-five TC and 23 children with mild CP were allocated in four different age groups: 5-6, 7-9, 10-12, and 13-15 years; they all performed STS movements over a force plate. Anterior-posterior and medial-lateral amplitude of center of pressure (CoP) displacement, area and velocity of CoP sway were analyzed and compared between the age groups for TC and children with CP.TC at 5 to 6 years of age showed higher values of anterior-posterior CoP displacement and Area of CoP sway than at 10-12 years, during the stabilization phase. There were no age-related changes for CP.TC change their postural sway during the last STS phase over the years, reducing their body sway. Children with CP did not show age-related changes in sway during STS, reflecting a distinct rhythm of postural control development in this population.
