Abstract

Comprehensive Summary: Maleimide derivatives are well‐established reactive intermediates also found in natural products, synthetic pharmaceuticals and functional polymers. Their specific reactivity found widespread applications in the field of bioconjugation and allowed for the development of highly selective functionalizations based on simple additions and cycloadditions with the possible control of central and C–N axial chirality. These multisite‐reactive scaffolds have aroused a long‐standing interest throughout the scientific community more particularly as powerful electrophilic partners and more recently as nucleophilic partners in some specific transformations. The persistent interest in these easily accessible synthetic platforms over the last decade has enabled the development of new enantioselective transformations and the major advancements in this field are presented in this review. Abstract

The synthesis and the studies of optical and electronic properties of new bis‐indenone‐fused tetraazaanthracene isomers as electron accepting materials are reported. TD‐DFT calculations have been also undertaken and corroborate experiments. Organic field effect transistors demonstrated unipolar n‐type characteristics and average electron mobility values. Abstract

The molecular complexity of recently reported cobalt(III) polycyclic complexes, resulting from an intramolecular formal (2 + 2 + 3) cycloaddition reaction on an enediyne containing a lactone moiety, has prompted us to computationally review the mechanisms of cobalt cycloaddition reactions with γ-alkylidenebutenolide or γ-alkylidenebuterolactam as 2π partners. Computed mechanisms are compared, leading to either cobalt(III)- or cobalt(I)-spiro complexes depending of both the nature of the reaction (intra- vs. intermolecular pathway) and the nature of the 2π partner (γ-alkylidenebutenolide vs. γ-alkylidenebuterolactam). These proposed mechanisms are supported by experiments, allowing us to report the synthesis and characterization of the predicted compounds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

An efficient cobalt-catalyzed method for the direct conjugate addition of functionalized aryl compounds onto Michael acceptors is presented, where the CoBr2(2,2'-bipyridine) complex has appeared to be a very suitable catalyst for the activation of a variety of aromatic reagents ranging from halides to triflates functionalized by reactive groups. The scope and limitations of this cobalt-catalyzed direct 1,4-addition of aromatic compounds are described.

Abstract

International audience; The [2+2+2] cycloaddition reaction is considered one of the most efficient methods for the rapid and straightforward preparation of complex polycyclic (and heterocyclic) compounds in a highly selective and atom-economical fashion. Over the last half-century, remarkable advances in terms of chemo-and regioselectivities have been realized, endowing this reaction with attractive features as a key step in the synthesis of various biologically active molecules and materials. The development of stereoselective methodologies is more recent. In this field, asymmetric transition-metal catalysis has emerged as the most convenient tool with which to perform these [2+2+2] cycloadditions in their enantio-and diastereo-selective variants. All the catalytic systems that have been developed so far are based on very close association of a transition metal (Co, Ni, Ir, Rh,...) with a chiral ligand. The success of these reactions is then related to the reaction pattern involved (inter-and intramolecular), implying an efficient substrate/active species interaction. Thus, judicious design both of chiral ligands and of unsaturated substrates is necessary. In light of these aspects, numerous stereoselective cycloadditions have been reported; these allow the construction in one-step fashion of central, axial, planar, and helical chiralities. This review details the recent advances in this area, with specific attention to catalysts and reaction scope.

Abstract

Herein, we report the first catalytic version of a cobalt-catalysed reductive homocoupling of benzyl halides which proceeds with low catalyst loadings (0.5 to 5 mol%). By synthetizing each cobalt intermediate we demonstrate that reaction proceeds through two single electron transfers (SET) and that dimethylzinc is only involved in the regeneration of the catalytic species.
