Objective: The effects of topical tea tree oil (TTO) on the healing of pressure ulcers (PUs) in an animal model was evaluated. Method: To induce PUs, ischaemia-reperfusion cycles were performed by the external application of magnetic plates, with an ischaemic period of eight hours and a reperfusion period of 16 hours. Male and female Wistar rats were divided into three equally sized groups (n=20): one group received topical glycerin twice daily, another group received topical 10% (volume/volume (v/v)) TTO in glycerin twice daily; and the remaining group was untreated. The animals were assessed after one, four, seven and 14 cycles of ischaemia-reperfusion by thermal camera imaging, and then euthanised and sampled to investigate the degree of inflammation, collagen synthesis and apoptosis in the PUs. Results: Although topical glycerin alone suppressed local inflammation and apoptosis, this suppressive effect was accentuated at all timepoints by the application of topical TTO + glycerin. Similarly, an increase in collagen synthesis was observed in the glycerin group and this was accentuated by TTO at all timepoints. Parallel to the histological findings, the local temperature had decreased significantly on days 4 and 7 for both treatment groups (glycerin and TTO+glycerin). Conclusion: In this study, treatment with 10% (v/v) TTO in glycerin effectively suppressed skin inflammation and apoptosis, while it increased collagen synthesis during PU formation.

Amaç: Hemşirelik okullarında flakondan ilaç hazırlama ve uygulama becerisi, hastalar içinkullanılmış flakonlar kullanılarak laboratuvarda öğretilmektedir. Mesleksel beceri laboratuvarlarındaçalışma sırasında flakon özelliği taşıyan ancak aktif etken madde içermeyen eğitim materyallerinegereksinim vardır.Yöntem-Gereçler: Simüle eğitim materyali flakon geliştirmek ve flakonun etkinliğini değerlendirmekamacıyla yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın birinci basamağı tanımlayıcı, ikinci basamağı randomizekontrollü çalışma olarak tasarlanmıştır. Hemşirelik Fakültesi öğretim elemanları ve ikinci sınıfhemşirelik öğrencileri ile yürütülmüştür. Birinci basamak: nişasta, pudra ve pudra şekeri ile üçfarklı flakon grubu hazırlandı. Öğretim elemanları (n=47) her gruptan birer adet flakonun etkinliğinideğerlendirdi. İkinci aşamada, deney grubundaki öğrenciler (n=122) simüle flakon ile çalıştı.Kontrol grubu (n=120) daha önceden kullanılan flakonlar ile beceriyi uyguladı. Öğretim elemanlarıve öğrenciler Flakon İşlerliğini Değerlendirme Formunu doldurdu. Öğrencilerden beceriuygulamasına yönelik geri bildirim alındı.Bulgular: Öğretim elemanları tarafından nişasta, pudra ve pudra şekeri flakon grupları arasındaetkinlik açısından en etkili madde, pudra şekeri olarak belirlendi (p0.05). Objective: Today, unemployment has become an in- creasing problem. In general, the reason for attending university in our country, Türkiye, is the anxiety about getting a job. The authors’ aim was to investigate undergraduate nursing students’ employment hope levels and to determine the factors affecting employment hope. Material and Methods: In this study, the descriptive-survey research method was used. The sample of the study consisted of undergraduate nursing students who attended the nursing faculty of a public university in the 2018-2019 academic year. The Sociodemographic Characteris- tics Questionnaire, Employment Hope Scale and Beck Hopelessness Scale were used as data collection tools.Results: The sample group of the study consists of 645 students and the participation rate was 59.12%. In the study, 53.5% preferred nursing of their own free will, 82.5% wanted to improve themselves in the profession and to stay in the profession after they graduated, and 89.3% worried about finding a job. The analysis of the correlation between the variable choosing nursing by one’s own preference and the employment hope levels revealed that, though statistically not significant, the variable positively correlated with the “psychological empowerment” subscale (p=0.067), and sig- nificantly positively with the “goal-oriented pathways” subscale (p

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı üriner kateterizasyon eğitiminde kullanılan simülasyon ve gelenekselyöntemin hemşirelik öğrencilerinin bilgi ve beceri, memnuniyet ve özgüven düzeylerine etkisiniincelemektir.Yöntem: Randomize kontrollü, ön test ve son test modelli araştırmanın örneklemini 2021-2022Eğitim-Öğretim yılı dördüncü sınıf (intörn) 57 hemşirelik öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Çalışmagrubundaki öğrencilere (n=28) üriner retansiyon ve katater uygulaması ile ilgili senaryo ortagerçekli simülasyon ile uygulanmıştır. Kontrol grubundaki (n=29) öğrencilere ise düşük gerçeklimanken ile üriner kateter eğitimi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veriler; Kişisel Bilgi Formu, konu ile ilgili quizsoruları, Performans Gözlem Formu ve Öğrenmede Öğrenci Memnuniyeti Ölçeği ve Özgüven Ölçeğiile toplanarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde ki-kare, bağımsız gruplarda t testi,eşleştirilmiş t-testi kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özellikleri açısından çalışma ve kontrol grubu arasındaistatiksel olarak önemli fark olmadığı saptanmıştır (p>0.05). Simülasyon uygulaması yapılmadanönce çalışma (58.93±13.63) ve kontrol (54.65±11.33) grubunun başlangıç bilgi düzeyi açısındanfark bulunmamıştır (p>0.05). Background: Aims: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of the Valsalva maneuver during peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) insertion on procedure-related pain. Design: This work was a prospective randomized controlled study. Settings: Study was conducted in the orthopedics clinic of a university hospital. Participants/Subjects: Methods: The sample of patients (N = 110) was allocated to the Valsalva maneuver group (n = 55) and control group (n = 55) by using blocked randomization to reduce bias and achieve balance according to age and gender. Pain was evaluated by using Numerical Rating Scale. Systolic/diastolic blood pressure and heart rate before and after the PIVC placement was recorded. Results: The patients in the intervention group had less severe pain during the PIVC insertion than the patients in the control group (p < .001). After PIVC placement, systolic blood pressure was significantly reduced in both groups (p =.008), no other variables changed significantly. No clinical complication related to the Valsalva maneuver occurred in the intervention group. Aim:To determine the compliance with nursing drug administration procedure steps associated with access to the central venous catheter for bolus infusion in intensive care units.Methods:This observational study was conducted with 30 nurses working in an intensive care unit of a university hospital. The drug administrations practiced by nurses via central venous catheter were monitored simultaneously at 12:00 a.m., 02:00 p.m., and 06:00 p.m. by two observers. The data were collected using a data collection form and central venous catheter drug administration procedure steps.Results:A total of 90 different drug administrations were observed in three different treatment hours from 30 nurses. The interobserver conformity was found to be moderate in two steps (kappa = 0.520–0.627, P = 0.01) and perfect in all other steps (kappa = 0.821–1.000, P = 0.000). According to the drug administration procedure steps via a central venous catheter, all nurses applied the following steps correctly during all treatment hours: drug card control, preparation of treatment materials, checking the patient’s identity, and steps of drug treatment administration. The following tasks were frequently performed incorrectly or not at all: hand hygiene (before treatment 87.8%; after treatment 82.2%), scrubbing the three-way stopcock entrance with an alcohol swab (55.6%), waiting for the alcohol to dry (81.1%), and flushing the lumen with a compatible fluid (before treatment 84.4%: after treatment 75.6%).Conclusion:Observation of drug administration procedure steps via central venous catheter according to the treatment hours showed that the nurses performed many incomplete or inaccurate drug administration procedure steps and the mistakes increased toward the evening hours.

Mizah duygusu ile streslebaşa çıkma tarzları arasındaki ilişkilerin incelenmesi sürekli başkalarınınsorunları ve beklentileriyle uğraşan hemşirelik öğrencileri açısındanönemlidir. Bu çalışmanın amacı, 1., 2., 3., 4. sınıf hemşirelik öğrencilerindemizah tarzları ile tükenmişlik arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Nisan-Mayıs 2018 tarihinde yapılan çalışmada, Sosyo-Demografik Özellikler SoruFormu, Maslach Tükenmişlik Ölçeği ve Mizah Tarzları Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. EtikKurul ve kurum izni alındıktan sonra 1539 öğrenciden 931'i çalışmayakatılmışlardır. Katılımcıların 711'i kadın, 220'si erkektir. Öğrencilerin220'si 1. sınıf, 187'si 2. sınıf, 407'si 3. sınıf ve 117' si 4. sınıftır.Mizahın stresle baş etmede etkili olduğunu bildirenler %79.1 (n=736)'dır. Sınıflara göre bakıldığında Tükenmişlik Ölçeği'nin alt boyutlarındanTükenme ve duyarsızlaşma en fazla 2. sınıflarda görülmüştür (=16.59.±5.70, p=0.004). Düşük yetkinlik alt puanıile tükenmişlik puan ortalması arasında bir ilişki vardır. Yetkinlik alt boyutupuan ortalaması, en düşük 1. sınıflarda görülmektedir (=12.48±2.73, p=0.000). Cinsiyete göre bakıldığındaTükenme'nin alt boyutlarından Duyarsızlaşma puan ortalaması, erkeklerde dahafazla görülmektedir (=11.12±4.74, p=0.001). Sınıflara göre mizahıkullanım sıklığına bakıldığında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farkgörülmemiştir.

Purpose: This study was carried out to determine the extent to which the academic satisfaction of nursingstudents predicted their burnout levels.Methods: This is a descriptive study. The sample consisted of 424 nursing students. Data collection toolswere developed by the researchers by reviewing the literature. In the study, a Socio-DemographicCharacteristics Questionnaire, a Faculty of Education Student Satisfaction Scale, and the MaslachBurnout Inventory-Student Survey were used.Results: Results indicated that 71% (n = 301) of the students were female, 62.5% (n = 265) were in the20-23 age group, 57.5% (n = 244) had selected nursing voluntarily, 63.9% (n = 271) were currentlysatisfied with their department, and that 77.1% (n = 327) had future unemployment concerns. Also, theburnout levels of nursing students were determined to be affected significantly by the attitudes of theinstructors (β = -0.177), the satisfaction levels explained 13.8% of the depersonalization levels, and theaccomplishment level was significantly affected by the course and the syllabus (β = 0.102).Conclusion: The satisfaction of nursing students with the institution and education was determined toreduce their burnout levels significantly.Keywords: Nursing students, academic satisfaction, burnout, nursing education

Background Patient positioning is an independent nursing intervention and may increase peripheral oxygenation for patients with lung disease. Few studies have been conducted on the effect of body positions on oxygenation in patients with lung disease. Aims and objectives To investigate the effects of five different positions on peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2 ) and vital signs in patients with lung disease. Design A semi-experimental study was conducted. Methods Consecutive samples were recorded from critical care patients followed in the chest clinic of a university hospital. A total of 109 patients with lung disease were recruited. Patients who were able to lie in all positions, and who had unilateral or bilateral lung disease documented by a medical diagnosis by a physician were included in this study. The SpO2 and vital signs were measured at each position three times. Results For patients with right, left, and bilateral lung disease, lying on the right side of the body at 45 in bed, the SpO2 was higher, but this difference was not statistically significant. There was a significant difference at 40 minutes between the pulse rate in patients with left and bilateral lung disease, but not in patients with right lung disease. No significant differences were found between respiratory rates and body temperature in patients in any of the three groups at 10, 25, and 40 minutes. Conclusions Although this difference was not statistically significant, lying on the right side of the body at 45 in bed can be an effective position for improving oxygenation in all patients with lung disease. Relevance to clinical practice As there is insufficient evidence to suggest a specific position, further studies are needed. This study provides evidence that the best oxygenation in patients with unilateral and bilateral lung disease can be obtained by determining the appropriate position for critical care nurses.

Hemşirelik yasasındaki (2007) değişiklikle, kliniklerdeçalışan erkek hemşire sayısı artmaktadır. Kesitsel ve tanımlayıcı tipte olançalışma, hasta ve yakınlarının erkekhemşirelere ilişkin görüşlerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Veriler, 20 Mayıs2016 ile 20 Nisan 2017 tarihleri arasında bir üniversite hastanesi Dahiliye 1-2,Genel Cerrahi, Nöroşirurji, Ortopedi, Kadın Hastalıkları-Doğum Kliniklerindekihasta ve refakatçılarından çalışmaya katılmaya istekli, iletişimengeli olmayan, onsekiz yaş üzeri hastave/veya yakınlarından elde edilmiştir. Çalışmaya başlamadan önce Başhekimliktenve Etik kuruldan izin alınmıştır. Analizinde Ki-kare, sayı, yüzdelik testler kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada 268 hasta/yakınınaulaşılmış; %63.4’ünü (n=170) hasta yakınları oluşturmuştur. Katılımcıların %56.7’si(n=152) kadın, %53.4’ü (n=143) 36-60 yaş arasındadır. Yüzde 44.4’ünün (n=119)erkek hemşireden bakım aldığı saptanmıştır. “Erkekler de hemşirelik yapabilir”sorusuna katılımcıların %82.5’i (n=221) ve “iyi bakım verebilir” sorusuna %72’si (n=193) evet yanıtını vermişlerdir(p=0.038). Erkeklerin her serviste çalışabileceğini düşünenlerin oranı%71.3’tür. “Erkek hemşireler sadece erkek hastalara bakım vermelidir” ifadesine%55.2’si (n=148) hayır yanıtını vermişlerdir. Katılımcıların erkek hemşireyeyönelik bakış açılarının pozitif olduğu söylenebilir.
