Abstract Background Crohn’s disease (CD) patients require varying levels of supportive care. In order to facilitate caregivers and nurses in precisely evaluating the caregiving requirements of these patients, we developed the CD-specific Care Needs Scale (CD-CNS). Methods This study employed a mixed-methods approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The initial items of the scale were developed through qualitative interviews, Delphi expert consultation, and literature review, while the final items were refined through clinical testing. Qualitative interviews were conducted based on the supportive care needs framework and Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, and scale items were constructed through a literature search and qualitative interviews. The initial version of the scale with 45 items was obtained after the items were verified and modified by expert consultation. A total of 250 CD patients admitted to the gastroenterology department of a hospital in China were selected for verification of the initial version of the scale. A self-designed general questionnaire was used to obtain patients’ medical history and sociodemographic data, and the Chinese version of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire (IBDQ) was used as the criterion. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was performed on the CD-CNS to evaluate the dimensions, factor structure, reliability, criterion validity, and construct validity. Results EFA identified 5 dimensions and retained 27 items with strong internal consistency reliability (α = 0.940). The Cronbach’s α coefficients for each dimension ranged from 0.824 to 0.921. In the era of continuous development of computer technology, the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and big data is becoming more and more extensive. With the help of powerful computer and network technology, the art of visual communication (VISCOM) has ushered in a new chapter of digitalization and intelligence. How vision can better perform interdisciplinary and interdisciplinary artistic expression between art and technology and how to use more novel technology, richer forms, and more appropriate ways to express art has become a new problem in visual art creation. This essay aims to investigate and apply VISCOM art through big data and AI methods. This essay proposed the STING algorithm for big data for multi-resolution information clustering in VISCOM art. In addition, the convolutional neural network (CNN) in AI technology was used to identify the conveyed objects or scenes to achieve the purpose of designing art with different characteristics for different scenes and groups of people. STING is a multi-resolution clustering technique for big data, with the advantage of efficient data processing. In the experimental part, this essay selected a variety of design contents in VISCOM art, including logo design, text design, scene design, packaging design and poster design. STING and CNN algorithms were used to cluster and AI-identify the design elements 16 of the design projects might contain. The results showed that the overall average clustering accuracy was above 82%, the accuracy of scene element recognition mainly was above 80%, and the accuracy of facial recognition was above 80%; this showed that this essay applied AI and big data to the design of VISCOM, and had a good effect on the clustering and identification of design elements. According to expert scores, these applications’ reliability and practicality scores were above 70 points, with an average of about 80 points. Therefore, applying big data and AI to VISCOM in this essay is reliable and feasible.

Controlling the hierarchical self-assembly of surfactants in aqueous solutions has drawn much attention due to their broad range of applications, from targeted drug release, preparation of smart material, to biocatalysis. However, the synthetic procedures for surfactants with stimuli-responsive hydrophobic chains are complicated, which restricts the development of surfactants. Herein, a novel single-tailed responsive surfactant, 1-methyl-3-(2-(4-((tetradecylimino) methyl) phenoxy) ethyl)-3-imidazolium bromides (C14PMimBr), was facilely fabricated in situ by simply mixing an aldehyde-functionalized imidazolium cation (3-(2-(4-formylphenoxy) ethyl)-1-methyl imidazolium bromide, BAMimBr) and aliphatic amine (tetradecylamine, TDA) through dynamic imine bonding. With increasing concentration, micelles, vesicles, and hydrogels were spontaneously formed by the hierarchical self-assembly of C14PMimBr in aqueous solutions without any additives. The morphologies of vesicles and hydrogels were characterized by cryogenic transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The mechanical properties and microstructure information of hydrogels were demonstrated by rheological measurement, X-ray diffraction, and density functional theory calculation. In addition, the vesicles could be disassembled and reassembled with the breakage and reformation of imine bonds by adding acid/bubbling CO2 and adding alkali. This work provides a simple method for constructing stimuli-responsive surfactant systems and shows great potential application in targeted drug release, drug delivery, and intelligent materials.

Abstract Background Depression is being increasingly acknowledged as a global public health concern, and following this trend, attention towards eating disorders (EDs) has surged within China’s national consciousness. EDs symptoms frequently coexist with various mental health conditions, including depression. However, research focusing on EDs symptoms and depressive symptoms among Tibetan students in China remains scant. This study employs network analysis to estimate the relational network between EDs and depressive symptoms. Methods Tibetan (n = 2,582) and Han (n = 1,743) students from two universities in the Xizang Autonomous Region, China, completed the Eating Attitude Test-26 (EAT-26) and the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9). We estimated the network structure of EDs symptoms and depressive symptoms, identified central and bridge symptoms, and examined whether network characteristics differed by gender and ethnic. Results The core symptoms identified within this study were Calorie_awareness, Desire_to_thin and Fatigue. Conversely, bridge symptoms included Appetite, Suicide, Anhedonia, Guilty, Body_fat_awareness, and Food_preoccupation. The study also revealed no significant gender differences within the network model. However, disparities among ethnic groups were observed within the network structure. Conclusions Our study examined the correlation between EDs symptoms and depressive symptoms in Tibetan college students. Focusing on the individual's quest for the perfect body shape and some Tibetan students' appetite problems – potentially stemming from transitioning to a new university environment, adapting to the school canteen's diet, or being away from their hometown – could aid in the prevention and management of EDs and depression symptoms. It could reduce the incidence of complications by helping students maintain good physical and mental health. Concurrently, our research provides insights into the relatively higher levels of depression triggered by the unique plateau environment.

Self-healing, stretchable, and moldable hydrogels have a great potential application in tissue engineering and soft robotics. Despite great success in reported hydrogels, it is still a great challenge to construct the moldable hydrogels with an ultrafast self-healing performance. Herein, the composite hydrogels (PBLH) with ultrafast self-healing, stretchable, and moldable properties were successfully constructed by poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA), borate (B), ε-poly-l-lysine (EPL), and hyaluronic acid (HA) based on an efficient one-pot method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and rheological measurements confirmed the formation of a dynamic network among PVA, B, EPL, and HA through the cross-linking of dynamic borate bonds, electrostatic interaction, and hydrogen bonding. Having fabricated the dynamic network structure, the damage gap of the composite hydrogels can heal within 1 min, presenting an excellent self-healing ability. Simultaneously, the composite hydrogels can be molded into various shapes, and the length of the composite hydrogels can be stretched to 15 times their original length. In addition, the composite hydrogels exhibited an excellent antibacterial property against Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Escherichia coli (E. coli). Our results illustrated that the composite hydrogels not only retain the advantages of traditional hydrogels but also possess ultrafast self-healing, outstanding stretchable and antibacterial properties, presenting a prospective candidate for constructing biomedical materials.

Photonic crystal channel drop filters (CDFs) play a vital role in optical communication owing to their ability to drop the desired channel. However, it remains challenging to achieve high-efficiency CDFs. Here, we demonstrate a highly efficient three-channel CDF with both high transmission and high quality (Q) factor based on a novel ring resonator that is in the middle of two waveguides. A dielectric column with a large radius replaces the homogeneously distributed dielectric columns inside the ring cavity to modulate the coupling ratio with a straight waveguide, thereby enhancing the transmission and Q factor. The transmission and Q factor of the single-cavity filter are 99.7% and 12,798.4, respectively. The mean value of the three-channel filter based on the basic unit can reach up to 94.6% and 10,617, respectively, and a crosstalk between −30.16 and −50.61 dB is obtained. The proposed CDFs provide efficient filter capability, which reveals great potential in integrated optoelectronics and optical communication.

Objectives: The aim of this study is to understand the feelings and experiences of the main caregivers of temporary ostomy patien ts with Crohn's disease (CD). And explore the caregivers' inner feelings, to provide reference and basis for constructing the health education content of the main caregivers of CD patients with a temporary stoma. Methods: A qualitative descriptive approach was used to conduct an unstructured interview among 11 primary caregivers of CD patients with temporary enterostomy from the gastroenterology department of The Second Hospital of Nanjing. Participants were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected between July 2021 and September 2021. The interviews were audio recorded and then transcribed for a qualitative thematic analysis. Results: Five themes and accompanying subthemes were identified: (1) negative psychological experience (2) perceived caregiver burden (3) future uncertainty (4) disease benefit (5) insufficien support system. Conclusions: Study findings suggest that caregivers of CD temporary enterostomy patients have problems such as negative psychology, heavy caregiver burden, uncertain future, lack of support system, etc., but they also have positive experience of feeling of benefit from the disease, and are eager to obtain more disease information from more channels.Therefore, medical staff should improve their professionalism and health education capabilities, carry out diversified and targeted health education activities to reduce the burden of care, stimulate positive caregiver responses and help caregivers respond to and deal with caregiving problems in a timely and accurate manner.

ABSTRACT Infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CRKP) are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Among solid organ transplant recipients (SOTRs), clinical outcomes and risk factors for death following such infections remain not well documented. A single-center retrospective study was performed. All SOTRs with a CRKP infection at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021 were included. Multivariable Cox regression was performed to determine risk factors for death following CRKP infection. We identified 94 SOTRs with CRKP infection, with a median age of 50 years old. CRKP infections resulted in 38.3% of overall 30-day mortality. On multivariable analysis, independent risk factors for death following CRKP infection included older age (hazard ratio [HR], 1.044; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.007 to 1.083; P = 0.02), allograft failure (HR, 3.962; 95% CI, 1.628 to 9.644; P = 0.002), and septic shock (HR, 8.512; 95% CI, 3.294 to 21.998; P

Abstract Background Drought is one of the major environmental stresses resulting in a huge reduction in crop growth and biomass production. Pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.) has excellent drought tolerance, and it could be used as a model plant to study drought resistance. The root is a very crucial part of plant that plays important roles in plant growth and development, which makes it a focus of research. Results In this study, we explored the mechanism of drought tolerance of pearl millet by comparing physiological and transcriptomic data under normal condition and drought treatment at three time points (1 h, 3 h and 7 h) in the root during the seedling stage. The relative electrical conductivity went up from 1 h to 7 h in both control and drought treatment groups while the content of malondialdehyde decreased. A total of 2004, 1538 and 605 differentially expressed genes were found at 1 h, 3 h and 7 h respectively and 12 genes showed up-regulation at all time points. Some of these differentially expressed genes were significantly enriched into ‘metabolic processes’, ‘MAPK signaling pathway’ and ‘plant hormone signal transduction’ such as the ABA signal transduction pathway in GO and KEGG enrichment analysis. Conclusions Pearl millet was found to have a quick drought response, which may occur before 1 h that contributes to its tolerance against drought stress. These results can provide a theoretical basis to enhance the drought resistance in other plant species.

Interleukin-33 (IL-33) is a pleiotropic cytokine linked to various immune cells in the innate and adaptive immune systems. Recent studies of the effects of IL-33 on immune cells are beginning to reveal its regulatory mechanisms at the levels of cellular metabolism and epigenetic modifications. In response to IL-33 stimulation, these programs are intertwined with transcriptional programs, ultimately determining the fate of immune cells. Understanding these specific molecular events will help to explain the complex role of IL-33 in immune cells, thereby guiding the development of new strategies for immune intervention. Here, we highlight recent findings that reveal how IL-33, acting as an intracellular nuclear factor or an extracellular cytokine, alters metabolic checkpoints and cellular metabolism, which coordinately contribute to cell growth and function. We also discuss recent studies supporting the role of IL-33 in epigenetic alterations and speculate about the mechanisms underlying this relationship.

The effects of the formaldehyde to phenol molar ratio (F/P) on the combustion behavior of phenolic foams were discussed. Phenolic foams have been prepared with different F/P of resole resin. FTIR, TG and SEM were used for assessment of the molecular structure, thermal stability, and cell structure of phenolic foam (PF) analysis, respectively. It was found that the higher the F/P, the more inflammables content in the PF that promoted the formation of the char layer, and the higher the LOI of PF. Although the closed cell proportion of PF decreases with the increase of F/P, the effect of the open and closed cell proportion on the LOI of PF was much lower than that of the content of inflammables when there was little difference in cell size. It is worth noting that the smoldering time and smoldering velocity of PF also increased with the increase of F/P. When F/P exceeds 2.3, a large number of open-cell structures appear in the PF, resulting in a phenomenon of smoldering to burnout. The relationship between smoldering velocity and F/P can be calculated by an Arrhenius type expression. Arrhenius-type expression calculation showed that when the F/P reached 2.3, the smoldering velocity increased sharply, reaching a maximum of 0.193 mm/s.

As a multi-target drug to treat ischemic stroke, N-butylphthalide (NBP) is extremely water-insoluble and exhibits limited oral bioavailability, impeding its wide oral application. Effective treatment of ischemic stroke by NBP requires timely and efficient drug exposure, necessitating the development of new oral formulations. Herein, liposomes containing biosurfactant sodium cholate (CA-liposomes) were systemically investigated as an oral NBP delivery platform because of its high biocompatibility and great potential for clinical applications. The optimized liposomes have a uniform hydrodynamic size of 104.30 ± 1.60 nm and excellent encapsulation efficiency (93.91 ± 1.10%). Intriguingly, NBP-loaded CA-liposomes produced rapid drug release and the cumulative release was up to 88.09 ± 4.04% during 12 h while that for NBP group was only 6.79 ± 0.99%. Caco-2 cell monolayer assay demonstrated the superior cell uptake and transport efficiency of NBP-loaded CA-liposomes than free NBP, which was mediated by passive diffusion via transcellular and paracellular routes. After oral administration to rats, NBP-loaded CA-liposomes exhibited rapid and almost complete drug absorption, with a tmax of 0.70 ± 0.14 h and an absolute bioavailability of 92.65% while NBP suspension demonstrated relatively low bioavailability (21.7%). Meanwhile, NBP-loaded CA-liposomes produced 18.30-fold drug concentration in the brain at 5 min compared with NBP suspension, and the brain bioavailability increased by 2.48-fold. As expected, NBP-loaded CA-liposomes demonstrated significant therapeutic efficacy in a middle cerebral artery occlusion rat model. Our study provides new insights for engineering oral formulations of NBP with fast and sufficient drug exposure against ischemic stroke in the clinic.

Abstract Background In mammals, it is known that the estradiol-17β (E2) is mainly synthetized in ovarian granulosa cells (GCs), and the excessive apoptosis of GCs induces the follicular atresia. Many studies have implicated the essential role of KISS1, with the pro-synthetic effect of E2 and the anti-apoptotic effect on GCs, in the mammalian folliculogenesis, and several STAT4 potential binding sites were previously predicted on the promoter of KISS1 in pigs. However, the biological effects of STAT4 on GCs and the molecular regulation between STAT4 and KISS1 remained largely unknown. Methods Using the porcine GCs as the cellular model, the overexpression plasmid, small interfering RNA, 5′-deletion and luciferase assay were applied to investigate the molecular mechanisms for STAT4 regulating the expression of KISS1. Results In this study, the STAT4 negatively regulated the mRNA and protein levels of KISS1 in porcine GCs, and the mRNA level of STAT4 was observed to significantly decrease from immature to mature follicles, which was inversed with that of KISS1. The relative luciferase activity of KISS1 promoter was significantly increased with deletion of the fourth potential binding site (− 305/− 295), and ChIP further confirmed that the STAT4 bound at − 305/− 295 region of KISS1. Besides, the STAT4 significantly regulated the mRNA levels of PDK1, FOXO3 and TSC2 of PI3K signaling pathway to promote the cell apoptosis and the percentage of cells at G0/G1 phase of cell cycle in GCs. Alternatively, the STAT4 significantly decreased the mRNA levels of CYP17, 3B-HSD, 17B-33 HSD, ESR1, and ESR2, as well as the concentration of E2 in GCs. Furthermore, interfering with the expression of STAT4 was observed to significantly stimulate the pro-synthetic effect of E2 and anti-apoptotic effect of KISS1 in GCs. Conclusions Collectively, the STAT4 might directly target at − 305/− 295 region of KISS1 to negatively regulate the transcription of KISS1, promote the cell apoptosis via PI3K signaling pathway, suppress the synthesis of E2 through the estrogen signaling pathway in porcine GCs. These proposed works could provide useful insight in further investigations on the molecular functionalities of STAT4 and KISS1 in the folliculogenesis of mammals.

Abstract Background Heat and drought are serious threats for crop growth and development. As the sixth largest cereal crop in the world, pearl millet can not only be used for food and forage but also as a source of bioenergy. Pearl millet is highly tolerant to heat and drought. Given this, it is considered an ideal crop to study plant stress tolerance and can be used to identify heat-resistant genes. Results In this study, we used Pacbio sequencing data as a reference sequence to analyze the Illumina data of pearl millet that had been subjected to heat and drought stress for 48 h. By summarizing previous studies, we found 26,299 new genes and 63,090 new transcripts, and the number of gene annotations increased by 20.18%. We identified 2792 transcription factors and 1223 transcriptional regulators. There were 318 TFs and 149 TRs differentially expressed under heat stress, and 315 TFs and 128 TRs were differentially expressed under drought stress. We used RNA sequencing to identify 6920 genes and 6484 genes differentially expressed under heat stress and drought stress, respectively. Conclusions Through Pacbio sequencing, we have identified more new genes and new transcripts. On the other hand, comparing the differentially expressed genes under heat tolerance with the DEGs under drought stress, we found that even in the same pathway, pearl millet responds with a different protein.

Abstract Background Plant viruses cause severe economic losses in agricultural production. An ultrahigh activity plant immune inducer (i.e., ZhiNengCong, ZNC) was extracted from endophytic fungi, and it could promote plant growth and enhance resistance to bacteria. However, the antiviral function has not been studied. Our study aims to evaluate the antiviral molecular mechanisms of ZNC in tobacco. Results Here, we used Potato X virus (PVX), wild-type tobacco and NahG transgenic tobacco as materials to study the resistance of ZNC to virus. ZNC exhibited a high activity in enhancing resistance to viruses and showed optimal use concentration at 100–150 ng/mL. ZNC also induced reactive oxygen species accumulation, increased salicylic acid (SA) content by upregulating the expression of phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) gene and activated SA signaling pathway. We generated transcriptome profiles from ZNC-treated seedlings using RNA sequencing. The first GO term in biological process was positive regulation of post-transcriptional gene silencing, and the subsequent results showed that ZNC promoted RNA silencing. ZNC-sprayed wild-type leaves showed decreased infection areas, whereas ZNC failed to induce a protective effect against PVX in NahG leaves. Conclusion All results indicate that ZNC is an ultrahigh-activity immune inducer, and it could enhance tobacco resistance to PVX at low concentration by positively regulating the RNA silencing via SA pathway. The antiviral mechanism of ZNC was first revealed in this study, and this study provides a new antiviral bioagent.

Abstract Background The prognosis of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with brain metastases is very poor. Currently, therapeutic methods for this patient population include whole-brain radiation therapy (WBRT), surgery, radiosurgery and systemic treatment. Epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) could be effective on cerebral metastases of mutated NSCLC. However, which EGFR-TKIs is more appropriate is still unknown. Methods We conducted a retrospective analysis of advanced NSCLC patients with brain metastases for EGFR targeted therapy from November 2013 to April 2018 at Dongguan People’s Hospital, Southern Medical University, China. A total of 43 patients were recruit in this study. Among them, 21 cases received icotinib (125 mg, thrice a day) and 22 cases received gefitinib (250 mg, once a day) until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. The primary end point of this study was intracranial PFS (iPFS). The relationships between therapeutic arms and patients characteristics were performed using Pearson’s chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test. The differences in PFS among the two arms were analyzed using Kaplan-Meier curves and log rank tests. Results There was no significant difference of intracranial ORR (66.6% versus 59.1%, P = 0.62) and DCR (85.7% versus 81.8%, P = 0.73) between the two arms. The median intracranial PFS (iPFS) for icotinib and gefitinib arms were 8.4 months (95% CI, 5.4 to 11.3 months) and 10.6 months (95% CI, 6.3 to 14.8 months), respectively (P = 0.17). Adverse events of the two study arms were generally mild. None of the patients experienced dose reduction of EGFR-TKIs. Conclusions Our study showed that icotinib and gefitinib had similar efficacy for brain metastasis of EGFR mutated NSCLC. Large randomized studies are suggested to further illuminate the effect of these two EGFR-TKIs on cerebral lesions of NSCLC.

With the development of intelligent transportation, radar and communication on moving platforms are competing for the spectrum. In this paper, we propose and demonstrate a new algorithmic framework for radar-communication spectral coexistence system on moving platform with mutual interference suppression, in which communication rate and the radar signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) are simultaneously optimized, under the energy constraints for the two systems and the radar constant modulus constraint. The radar spatial-temporal filter at the receiver and transmitting waveform are optimized, while the codebook matrix is optimized for the communication system. To cope with the established non-convex problem with triplet variables, we decouple the original problem into multiple subproblems, for which an alternating algorithm based on iterative procedures is derived with lower computational complexity. Specifically, the subproblems of communication codebook and radar filter design are convex and the closed-form solutions can be easily obtained, while the radar waveform optimization is non-convex. Then we propose a novel scheme by exploiting the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) based on minorization-maximization (MM) framework. Finally, to reveal the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in different scenarios, numerical results are provided.

Forkhead box protein 3 (Foxp3+)-expressing regulatory T (Treg) cells are a unique CD4+T cell subset that suppresses excessive immune responses. The epigenetic plasticity and metabolic traits of Treg cells are crucial for the acquisition of their phenotypic and functional characteristics. Therefore, alterations to the epigenetics and metabolism affect Treg cell development and function. Recent evidence reveals that altering the metabolic pathways and generation of metabolites can regulate the epigenetics of Treg cells. Specifically, some intermediates of cell metabolism can directly act as substrates or cofactors of epigenetic-modifying enzymes. Here, we describe the metabolic and epigenetic features during Treg cell development, and discuss how metabolites can contribute to epigenetic alterations of Treg cells, which affects Treg cell activation, differentiation, and function.

Orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata) is one of the top four perennial forages worldwide and, despite its large economic advantages, often threatened by various environmental stresses. WRKY transcription factors (TFs) can regulate a variety of plant processes, widely participate in plant responses to biotic and abiotic stresses, and are one of the largest gene families in plants. WRKYs can usually bind W-box elements specifically. In this study, we identified a total of 93 DgWRKY genes and 281 RGAs, including 65, 169 and 47 nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeats (NBS-LRRs), leucine-rich repeats receptor-like protein kinases (LRR-RLKs), and leucine-rich repeats receptor-like proteins (LRR-RLPs), respectively. Through analyzing the expression of DgWRKY genes in orchardgrass under different environmental stresses, it was found that many DgWRKY genes were differentially expressed under heat, drought, submergence, and rust stress. In particular, it was found that the greatest number of genes were differentially expressed under rust infection. Consistently, GO and KEGG enrichment analysis of all genes showed that 78 DgWRKY TFs were identified in the plant–pathogen interaction pathway, with 59 of them differentially expressed. Through cis-acting element prediction, 154 RGAs were found to contain W-box elements. Among them, DG6C02319.1 (a member of the LRR-RLK family) was identified as likely to interact with 14 DGWRKYs. Moreover, their expression levels in susceptible plants after rust inoculation were first up-regulated and then down-regulated, while those in the resistant plants were always up-regulated. In general, DgWRKYs responded to both biotic stress and abiotic stress. DgWRKYs and RGAs may synergistically respond to the response of orchardgrass to rust. This study provides meaningful insight into the molecular mechanisms of WRKY proteins in orchardgrass.

AimTo evaluate the impact of sodium glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT-2i) on risk of heart failure hospitalization in patients with type 2 diabetes.MethodsWe searched the PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang, CBM, and other web knowledge databases for data from randomized controlled trials. We performed statistical analyses by using review Manager (RevMan) 5.3 and STATA 12.0 for meta-analysis.ResultsEight randomized controlled trials that compared SGLT-2i versus placebo met our inclusion criteria and were included in the study. The final meta-analysis included a total of 55,763 type 2 diabetes patients. Compared with placebo, SGLT-2i reduced the risk of heart failure hospitalization (RR, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.53 to 0.74; P < 0.00001), MACE (defined as cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or ischemic stroke) (RR, 0.92; 95% CI, 0.86 to 0.98; P < 0.007), cardiovascular death (RR, 0.78; 95%CI, 0.62 to 0.99; P = 0.04) in type 2 diabetes patients. SGLT-2i could reduce the risk of death from any cause (RR, 0.77; 95% CI, 0.59 to 1.01; P = 0.06) without statistical significance in type 2 diabetes patients.ConclusionCompared with placebo, SGLT-2i may reduce the risk of heart failure hospitalization, MACE, and cardiovascular death. Therefore, SGLT-2i may be an ideal choice for type 2 diabetes mellitus patient with heart failure. These results will help inform practitioners, patients, and authorities making appropriate choices in hypoglycemic therapy clinical practice.

In recent years, teleoperation has experienced rapid development. Numerous teleoperation applications in diverse areas have been reported. Among all teleoperation-related components, computer vision (CV) is treated as one of the must-have technologies, because it allows users to observe remote scenarios. In addition, CV can further help the user to identify and track the desired targets from complex scenes. It has been proven that efficient CV methods can significantly improve the operation accuracy and relieve user’s physical and mental fatigue. Therefore, furthering understanding about CV techniques and reviewing the latest research outcomes is necessary for teleoperation designers. In this context, this review article was composed.

Nowadays, with the significant integration of various renewable energy, hybrid alternating current/ voltage source converter based high voltage direct current (AC/VSC-HVDC) system integrated with doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) has achieved rapidly development in smart grid. A proper control system design for hybrid AC/VSC-HVDC system plays a very crucial role for a reliable and effective power transmission. Hence, this paper designs a novel cooperative beetle antenna search (CBAS) algorithm for optimal coordinated control of hybrid AC/VSC-HVDC system integrated with DFIG. Compared with original beetle antennae search (BAS) algorithm, CBAS algorithm can significantly improve searching efficiency via an efficient cooperation with a group of multiple beetles instead of a single beetle. Particularly, CBAS algorithm can effectively escape from local optimums thanks to its dynamic balance mechanism, which can maintain appropriate trade-off between global exploration and local exploitation. Moreover, three case studies are undertaken to validate the effectiveness and superiorities and effectiveness of CBAS algorithm compared against that of other traditional meta-heuristic algorithms. Especially, the average results of fitness function acquired by CBAS algorithm is merely 46.05%, 41.18%, and 47.82% of that of PSO, GA, and BAS algorithm, respectively.

Abstract NAC proteins comprise of a plant-specific transcription factor (TF) family and play important roles in plant development and stress responses. Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) is the prime candidate and model bioenergy grass across the world. Excavating agronomically valuable genes is important for switchgrass molecular breeding. In this study, a total of 251 switchgrass NAC (PvNACs) family genes clustered into 19 subgroups were analyzed, and those potentially involved in stress response or tissue-specific expression patterns were pinpointed. Specifically, 27 PvNACs were considered as abiotic stress-related including four membrane-associated ones. Among 40 tissue-specific PvNACs expression patterns eight factors were identified that might be relevant for lignin biosynthesis and/or secondary cell wall formation. Conserved functional domains and motifs were also identified among the PvNACs and potential association between these motifs and their predicted functions were proposed, that might encourage experimental studies to use PvNACs as possible targets to improve biomass production and abiotic stress tolerance.

Tunable optical filters have a wide range of applications, especially in optical sensing systems and optical communication systems. In this letter, a programmable multi-wavelength tunable filter on Lithium Niobate (LN) is designed. The spectral response of the filter could be tuned by manipulating the voltage applied on the electrode pairs due to the electro-optic effect of LN. Besides, the number of resonant wavelength and the wavelength spacing are both programmable by encoding the electrode pairs. The number of resonant wavelength is reconfigured by changing the number of ‘1’ in the code. The wavelength spacing of the filter is reconfigured by the number of ‘0’ between adjacent ‘1’ in the code. Keywords: Lithium Niobate, Programmable, Tunable filter, Electro-optic effect

Hsp20 proteins exist in all plant species and represent the most abundant small heat shock proteins (sHSPs) in plants. Hsp20s were known as chaperones maintaining cellular homeostasis during heat or other kinds of abiotic stresses. The objective of this study was to understand the phylogenetic relationship, genomic organization, diversification of motif modules, genome localization, expression profiles, and interaction networks of switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) Hsp20s (PvHsp20s). A total of 63 PvHsp20s were identified with their consensus as well as unique ACD motifs and gene structures analyzed. Most PvHsp20s (87%) were responsive to heat and other kinds of abiotic stresses. When under optimum growth condition, 38 of them displayed relative higher expression levels in inflorescence and seeds, suggesting their protective roles in the stress-sensitive reproductive organs. An in silico analysis of interaction network of PvHsp20 proteins further revealed potential interactive proteins, including stress-inducible ones in the network. Furthermore, PvHsp20 genes unevenly distributed in two sets of homeologous chromosomes, and only segmental duplication was found among the paralogous gene pairs, reflecting that the allotetraploidization of switchgrass allowed the accumulation of PvHsp20s that in turn facilitated its successful adaptation in hot and dry plateaus of North America. The present results provided an insight into PvHsp20s with an emphasis on the uniqueness of this gene family in switchgrass. Such information shall also be useful in functional studies of PvHsp20 genes and molecular breeding of switchgrass.

In female mammals, the abnormal apoptosis of ovarian granulosa cells (GCs) impairs follicular development and causes reproductive dysfunction. Many studies have indicated that the FGFR1 gene of the PI3K signaling pathway and the p65 subunit of the transcription factor NF-κB may regulate the proliferation and apoptosis of GCs involved in follicular development. However, little is known about whether p65 regulates the transcription of FGFR1, as well as the biological effects of p65 and FGFR1 on the survival of GCs and follicular development. In porcine follicles and GCs, we found that p65 and FGFR1 were exclusively expressed in the GCs of follicles, and the mRNA and protein levels of p65 and FGFR1 significantly increased from small to large follicles. Both p65 and FGFR1 were found to activate the PI3K signaling pathway, and the expressions of proliferation markers (PCNA and MKI67) and the anti-apoptotic gene BCL2 were significantly increased by p65 and FGFR1. Furthermore, both p65 and FGFR1 were observed to promote cell proliferation and inhibit the cell apoptosis of GCs, and p65 was confirmed to bind at the −348/−338 region of FGFR1 to positively regulate its transcription. Moreover, p65 was further found to enhance the pro-proliferation and anti-apoptotic effects of FGFR1. Taken together, p65 may target the −348/−338 region of FGFR1, promote the transcription of FGFR1, and enhance the pro-proliferation effect and anti-apoptotic effect of FGFR1 to facilitate the growth of follicles. This study will provide useful information for further investigations on the p65-mediated-FGFR1 signaling pathway during folliculogenesis in mammals.
