8. Evaluation of infliximab/tocilizumab versus tocilizumab among COVID-19 patients with cytokine storm syndrome

Abstract

Abstract Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to spread rapidly. Monoclonal antibodies as well as anti-tumor necrosis factor are considered promising treatments for COVID-19. A prospective cohort study in which patients are divided into three groups. Group 1: moderate and severe COVID-19 patients received standard treatment; Group 2: moderate and severe COVID-19 patients received tocilizumab; Group 3: moderate and severe COVID-19 patients received treatment with infliximab and tocilizumab. 153 patients were recruited in the study. 40 received standard treatment alone, 70 received tocilizumab with standard treatment, and 43 received tocilizumab/infliximab with standard treatment. There was a significant difference in length of hospital stay (10.3, 8.9, and 7.6 days respectively P = 0.03), need for a non-invasive mechanical ventilator (4, 5, and one patient; P = 1.2E−8), intensive care admission (32, 45, and 16 patients; P = 2.5E−5), the occurrence of sepsis (18, 12, and 10 patients; P = 0.005) and in death (42.5%, 14.2%, and 7%; P = 0.0008) which were significantly lower in tocilizumab/infliximab group compared to tocilizumab and standard of care groups. Our study showed that tocilizumab/ infliximab in addition to standard of care was considered a promising treatment for moderate and severe COVID-19 patients. Abstract

This research investigates the use of core rebar and steel fibers as a secondary reinforcement system in reinforced concrete (RC) columns to optimize their load-bearing capacity while reducing their cross-sectional area. By utilizing both Ansys Apdl software and experimental tests, the study analyzes the behavior of short RC columns incorporating this reinforcement technique. The findings of this research demonstrate that the use of core rebar and steel fibers as a secondary reinforcement system in reinforced concrete (RC) columns can significantly enhance their load-bearing capacity by up to 25 %, while complying with code requirements for bar spacing and steel area ratio without necessitating an increase in the column's cross-sectional area. Additionally, this innovative reinforcement technique enhances the column's bearing capacity, providing additional benefits to the structure. The research provides architects and engineers with valuable insights into the potential benefits of using core rebar and steel fibers as a practical and effective solution for optimizing the performance of structures. Effective collaboration between architects and engineers is crucial in achieving a building design that is both safe and high-performing while meeting all necessary requirements. Therefore, the study offers architects and engineers a unique opportunity to enhance the load-bearing capacity of RC columns through innovative reinforcement techniques.

Abstract

IntroductionHealthcare workers have a significant chance of experiencing violence, with physical violence impacting anywhere from 8 to 38% of healthcare professionals throughout their careers. Besides physical abuse, many healthcare workers are subject to verbal aggression or threats, with patients and visitors being the most frequent sources of such incidents.MethodsThis research examines the work atmosphere of healthcare professionals at Kasr Al-Aini University Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, during the pandemic. The study aims to evaluate the frequency of violence toward healthcare workers and health professionals training through a cross-sectional survey conducted among them. The research was conducted on Egyptian healthcare workers over 6 months, from November 2020 until the end of January 2021, using convenience sampling in a cross-sectional study. Over half of the respondents reported experiencing violence.ResultsAmong those who experienced violence, 93% reported verbal aggression, 43% reported physical and verbal abuse, and 59% claimed that violence increased during the pandemic. Additionally, 97% of those who experienced violence reported it occurring within the 4 months following the survey. About 42.5% of the respondents were female, and nearly 65% were over 30. 82% of the respondents did not receive training on handling violence while performing their job.ConclusionThis study highlights the high prevalence of verbal assaults in healthcare settings, primarily by patients’ families or acquaintances. Despite reporting such incidents, most respondents did not see any significant government action. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic did not significantly change the frequency of violent incidents, indicating that the root causes of violence are systemic and extend beyond the pandemic. These findings underscore the need for systemic changes in healthcare organizations to address and prevent violence against healthcare workers.

Abstract

Abstract Background Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is a promising noninvasive physiotherapeutic approach that has been demonstrated to improve cardiac performance. This study aimed to assess the impact of low-level laser therapy on cardiac functions and clinical status in patients with chronic left ventricular systolic heart failure who were not candidates for cardiac revascularization or resynchronization. A case series of 27 patients received a course of low-level laser physiotherapy, the clinical outcomes, echocardiographic parameters, and serum nitric oxide levels were evaluated before and after LLLT. Results Of the total patients enrolled in the study, 21 (or 77.8%) were male, with a mean age of 57.7 ± 6.89 years. NYHA classification significantly improved after low-level laser therapy, 15 patients were in class III,12 were in class IV, and no one was in class II before laser therapy while after laser therapy; 25 patients shifted to class II, two patients were in class III with P

Abstract

Background: This study assessed the potential cost-effectiveness of high (80–100%) vs low (21–35%) fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) at preventing surgical site infections (SSIs) after abdominal surgery in Nigeria, India, and South Africa. Methods: Decision-analytic models were constructed using best available evidence sourced from unbundled data of an ongoing pilot trial assessing the effectiveness of high FiO2, published literature, and a cost survey in Nigeria, India, and South Africa. Effectiveness was measured as percentage of SSIs at 30 days after surgery, a healthcare perspective was adopted, and costs were reported in US dollars ($). Results: High FiO2 may be cost-effective (cheaper and effective). In Nigeria, the average cost for high FiO2 was $216 compared with $222 for low FiO2 leading to a −$6 (95% confidence interval [CI]: −$13 to −$1) difference in costs. In India, the average cost for high FiO2 was $184 compared with $195 for low FiO2 leading to a −$11 (95% CI: −$15 to −$6) difference in costs. In South Africa, the average cost for high FiO2 was $1164 compared with $1257 for low FiO2 leading to a −$93 (95% CI: −$132 to −$65) difference in costs. The high FiO2 arm had few SSIs, 7.33% compared with 8.38% for low FiO2, leading to a −1.05 (95% CI: −1.14 to −0.90) percentage point reduction in SSIs. Conclusion: High FiO2 could be cost-effective at preventing SSIs in the three countries but further data from large clinical trials are required to confirm this.

Abstract

Abstract Background In recognition of the risk factors common between oral diseases and various chronic conditions and the intersection between oral health and some sustainable development goals, the current cross-sectional study was designed to quantify the burden of dental caries and identify factors associated with its occurrence in permanent teeth. Methods Using data from Egypt's population-based survey (2013–2014), two individual-level outcomes; past caries experience (DMFT > 0) and presence of untreated carious lesions (DT > 0) were assessed using the WHO basic methods for oral health surveys. Information on potential explanatory variables including sociodemographic characteristics, exposure to fluoridated water, dental attendance, and dental anxiety was gathered using a structured questionnaire. Stratified multistage cluster random sampling was used to recruit survey participants. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to identify significant potential risk factors for caries in the permanent dentition of Egyptians. Findings A total of 9,457 participants were included of which 70.3% had at least one untreated carious lesion. After adjusting for all covariates, analphabetic Egyptians were found to have significantly higher odds of caries experience in permanent dentition DMFT > 0 (OR 1.54, 95% CI [1.20–1.98]), DT > 0 (OR 1.62, 95% CI [1.32–2.00]). Males, however, had significantly lower caries risk DMFT > 0 (OR 0.75, 95% CI [0.67–0.85]), DT > 0 (OR 0.81, 95% CI [0.73–0.89]) when compared to females. Regarding age, mean DMFT scores were significantly lower in age groups (6–15 years) (OR 0.03, 95% CI [0.014; 0.082]), (16– 20 years) (OR 0.09, 95% CI [0.037; 0.23]), and (21–35 years) (OR 0.22, 95% CI [0.09; 0.53]) than among people ≥ 60 years. Conclusion Addressing individual-level caries risk factors should be complemented by addressing upstream factors to reduce burden of untreated dental caries among Egyptians.

Abstract

Adopting unsustainable farming strategies and practices in Egypt led to several socio-economic and environmental problems that are strongly reflected in human health and lifestyle. An example of these problems in the livestock sector is insufficient meat production leading to the dependence on imported meat or cattle. This is in addition to the pollution caused by the unprocessed and wasted cattle manure. To develop the livestock sector in Egypt researchers must introduce new energy solutions to farmers and smallholders. This paper aims to economically compare Photovoltaic (PV) to Anaerobic Digestion (AD) projects’ benefits within the livestock sector in Egypt, considering their Life Cycle Costs (LCC) and other parameters using systems components available in the local market. The study proves that the electricity load is the main reason for using either PV or AD. A real case study of a livestock farm is considered to determine its energy profile. Later on, an optimization procedure is implemented for hybrid PV/AD power supplies to optimize the Cost of Energy (CoE) and guarantee a continuous power supply depending on the best use of land and cattle number covered within the comparison. The results show that the CoE produced from renewables is still higher than the CoE from the grid. Furthermore, the rated tariff set by the government to buy electricity from investors will never attract farmers and smallholders to invest in renewables in case of consistent grid power. In other words, farmers under these conditions would only invest in renewables in case a power outage threatens their businesses.

ObjectivesDyslipidemia is a prevalent condition with significant morbidity and mortality across the world, including in the Arabian Gulf. The present study aimed to describe the characteristics of patients receiving evolocumab in clinical practice.MethodsZERBINI was a multi-country, observational, retrospective/prospective study of subjects receiving evolocumab as part of routine clinical management of their hyperlipidemia. This regional publication reports on adult participants from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait who have had ≥1 dose of evolocumab before enrollment and ≤6 months' prior exposure to evolocumab. Patient characteristics and treatment persistence data were collected in addition to baseline and follow-up data up to 12 months post-evolocumab initiation.ResultsOverall, 225 patients were included from two sites, Saudi Arabia (N = 155) and Kuwait (N = 70). Mean age was comparable across sites and most patients had baseline coronary artery disease and/or hypertension. Baseline LDL-C levels (mean ± SD 3.6 ± 1.4 mmol/L in Saudi Arabia, 3.1 ± 1.4 mmol/L in Kuwait) were reduced by approximately 57%-62% in the first 6 months after evolocumab initiation (1.5 ± 1.2 mmol/L in Saudi Arabia [n = 63], 1.2 ± 0.8 mmol/L in Kuwait [n = 28]). This decrease was maintained over the 12-month follow-up period. Most patients achieved ACC 2018 LDL-C goals (ConclusionEvolocumab is an effective lipid-lowering treatment in local populations. LDL-C goal achievement is increased when evolocumab is added to background lipid-lowering therapy with high tolerability and persistence. Long-term follow-up and large-scale data are needed to further support these observations.

Abstract

In this paper, we used the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and the Bayes methods to perform estimation procedures for the reliability of stress-strength R = P(Y < X) based on independent adaptive progressive censored samples that were taken from the Chen distribution. An approximate confidence interval of R was constructed using a variety of classical techniques, such as the normal approximation of the MLE, the normal approximation of the log-transformed MLE, and the percentile bootstrap (Boot-p) procedure. Additionally, the asymptotic distribution theory and delta approach were used to generate the approximate confidence interval. Further, the Bayesian estimation of R was obtained based on the balanced loss function, which came in two versions here, the symmetric balanced squared error (BSE) loss function and the asymmetric balanced linear exponential (BLINEX) loss function. When estimating R using the Bayesian approach, all the unknown parameters of the Chen distribution were assumed to be independently distributed and to have informative gamma priors. Additionally, a mixture of Gibbs sampling algorithm and Metropolis-Hastings algorithm was used to compute the Bayes estimate of R and the associated highest posterior density credible interval. In the end, simulation research was used to assess the general overall performance of the proposed estimators and a real dataset was provided to exemplify the theoretical results. Abstract

Pyrano[3,2-c]quinoline-3-carboxylate derivatives 3a-j were synthesized efficiently by the microwave–irradiated condensation of 4-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinoline-3-carbaldehydes 4a-j with ethyl cyanoacetate (2) in the presence of ethanol and a catalytic amount of piperidine. The structures of the products were confirmed by a combination of spectral techniques including infra-red (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometry (MS) and elemental analyses in addition to X-ray structure analysis. The synthesized compounds 3a-j were tested for their in vitro antiproliferative activity against four human cancer cell lines using the MTT assay and doxorubicin as the reference drug: pancreas (Panc-1) cancer cell line, breast cancer (MCF-7) cell line, colon cancer (HT-29) cell line, and epithelial cancer (A-549) cell line. In comparison to the standard doxorubicin (GI50 = 1.10 µM), compounds 3a-j demonstrated promising antiproliferative action, with GI50 values ranging from 1.30 to 5.90 µM. The most effective derivatives were compounds 3c, 3g, 3h, and 3i with GI50 values ranging from 1.30 to 2.20 µM. The most potent antiproliferative derivative, compound 3c (R1 = OCH3, R2 = R3 = H), was also the most potent EGFR inhibitor, with an IC50 value of 105 ± 08 nM, 1.3-fold less potent than erlotinib (IC50 = 80 ± 05 nM). Compounds 3g (R1 = Br, R2 = R3 = H) and 3h (R1 = Cl, R2 = R3 = H) were the second and third most active, with IC50 values of 124 ± 10 nM and 195 ± 13 nM, respectively. Molecular docking calculations were conducted to inspect the docking scores and poses of the most promising compounds against EGFR and BRAFV600E. Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of recycled waste glass powder (RWGP) and particle packing optimization on the performance of UHPC. RWGP was obtained by crushing and grinding waste glass and reaching a fineness close to that of cement to study its influence on UHPC performance. UHPC mixtures were designed by optimizing the binder system based on a modified Andreasen & Andersen (MAA) particle packing model with a distribution factor (q) of 0.22 in order to reduce the required cement content (450 kg/m3). Seven different mixes have been designed, prepared, and tested with various RWGP content. Mechanical properties, durability, and microstructure of the developed concrete have been determined and evaluated. The results showed that the mixture with the inclusion of 10 % RWGP as a cement replacement achieves the highest mechanical properties at different ages. The interfacial transition zone (ITZ) is improved significantly when cement and quartz powder are replaced with RWGP. Moreover, the embodied CO2 index of RWGP50 % has been reduced to 3.7 kg/MPa/m3, while the embodied CO2 for conventional UHPC ranged to 5.75 kg/MPa/m3. Based on the environmental and economic assessment, RWGP reduces UHPC production costs and harmful environmental impacts without sacrificing the mechanical, microstructure, and durability performance significantly. Abstract

Background: Uterine blood flow determines endometrial thickness. This study examined how vaginal sildenafil citrate and estradiol valerate altered endometrial thickness, blood flow, and fertility in infertile women. Methods: This study observed 148 infertile women whose infertility was unexplained. Group 1 comprised 48 patients who received oral estradiol valerate (Cyclo-Progynova 2 mg/12 h white tablets) from day 6 till ovulation was initiated with clomiphene citrate. A number of 50 participants in group 2 received oral sildenafil (Respatio 20 mg/12 h film-coated tablets) for 5 days starting the day after their previous menstrual period and finishing on the day they ovulated with clomiphene citrate. Group 3 was the control group, with 50 patients receiving clomiphene citrate (Technovula 50 mg/12 h tablets) ovulation induction from the 2nd to 7th day of cycle. All patients had transvaginal ultrasounds to determine ovulation, follicle count, and fertility. Miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, and multiple pregnancies were monitored for three months. Results: The three groups’ mean ETs differed statistically at p = 0.0004. A statistically significant difference was found between the three groups in terms of the number of follicles, with 69% of patients in group 1 having one and 31% having two or more, 76% of patients in group 2 having one and 24% having two or more, and 90% of patients in the control group having one and 10% having two or more (p = 0.038). The clinical pregnancy rates of the three groups were 58%, 46%, and 27%, respectively (p = 0.005). The distribution of all side effects was not statistically different between the three groups. Conclusion: It is possible to claim that adding oral estrogen to clomiphene citrate therapy as an adjuvant therapy can improve endometrial thickness and, as a result, increase the pregnancy rates in unexplained infertility compared to sildenafil, especially in cases where the infertility has lasted less than two years. Most people who take sildenafil end up with a mild headache.

Abstract

(1) Background: COVID-19 caused the worst international public health crisis, accompanied by major global economic downturns and mass-scale job losses, which impacted the psychosocial wellbeing of the worldwide population, including Saudi Arabia. Evidence of the high-risk groups impacted by the pandemic has been non-existent in Saudi Arabia. Therefore, this study examined factors associated with psychosocial distress, fear of COVID-19 and coping strategies among the general population in Saudi Arabia. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in healthcare and community settings in the Saudi Arabia using an anonymous online questionnaire. The Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K-10), Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) and Brief Resilient Coping Scale (BRCS) were used to assess psychological distress, fear and coping strategies, respectively. Multivariate logistic regressions were used, and an Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) with 95% Confidence Intervals (CIs) was reported. (3) Results: Among 803 participants, 70% (n = 556) were females, and the median age was 27 years; 35% (n = 278) were frontline or essential service workers; and 24% (n = 195) reported comorbid conditions including mental health illness. Of the respondents, 175 (21.8%) and 207 (25.8%) reported high and very high psychological distress, respectively. Factors associated with moderate to high levels of psychological distress were: youth, females, non-Saudi nationals, those experiencing a change in employment or a negative financial impact, having comorbidities, and current smoking. A high level of fear was reported by 89 participants (11.1%), and this was associated with being ex-smokers (3.72, 1.14–12.14, 0.029) and changes in employment (3.42, 1.91–6.11, 0.000). A high resilience was reported by 115 participants (14.3%), and 333 participants (41.5%) had medium resilience. Financial impact and contact with known/suspected cases (1.63, 1.12–2.38, 0.011) were associated with low, medium, to high resilient coping. (4) Conclusions: People in Saudi Arabia were at a higher risk of psychosocial distress along with medium-high resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, warranting urgent attention from healthcare providers and policymakers to provide specific mental health support strategies for their current wellbeing and to avoid a post-pandemic mental health crisis.

Abstract

COVID-19 is a fatal, fast-spreading pandemic, and numerous attempts are being made around the world to understand and manage the disease. COVID-19 patients may develop a cytokine-release syndrome, which causes serious respiratory diseases and, in many cases, death. The study examined the feasibility of employing legally available anti-inflammatory pentoxifylline (PTX), a low toxicity and cost medication, to mitigate the hyper-inflammation caused by COVID-19. Thirty adult patients who tested positive for SARS-CoV2 were hospitalized owing to the cytokine storm syndrome. They were given 400 mg of pentoxifylline orally TID according to the standard COVID-19 protocol of the Egyptian Ministry of Health. Besides this, a group of thirty-eight hospitalized COVID-19 patients who received the standard COVID-19 protocol was included in the study as a control group. The outcomes included laboratory test parameters, clinical improvements, and number of deaths in both groups. After receiving PTX, all patients showed a significant improvement in C reactive protein (CRP), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) levels at p < 0.01 and p = 0.004, respectively, while there was an increase in total leukocyte count (TLC) and neutrophil-to-leucocyte ratio (NLR) at p < 0.01 compared to their baseline levels. The D-dimer level showed a significant increase in the treatment group at p < 0.01, while showing no statistically significant difference in the control group. The median initial ALT (42 U/L) in the treatment group showed a decrease compared to the control group (51 U/L). No statistical significance was reported regarding clinical improvement, length of stay, and death percentages between the two groups. Our results showed no significant improvement of PTX over controls in clinical outcomes of hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Nevertheless, PTX displayed a positive effect on certain inflammatory biomarkers.

Abstract

Vitamin D has recently been found to influence the renin-angiotensin system (RAS); it can reduce the effects of renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASI) by decreasing plasma renin. This study examines the effect of vitamin D supplements on cardiac fibrosis markers, echocardiographic parameters, and epigenetic markers in patients with established acute coronary syndrome (ACS). It also looks at the incidence of vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphisms Apa I (rs7975232), Bsm I (rs1544410), Taq I (rs731236), and Fok I (rs2228570) and its association with the development of secondary major acute cardiovascular events (MACE) and heart failure (HF). A randomized controlled trial in which patients were divided into two groups was performed. Group 1 comprised of 125 ACS patients who received ACS standard therapy alone, while Group 2 consisted of 125 ACS patients who received ACS standard therapy plus vitamin D according to their vitamin D levels. Patients were monitored for 24 months to find subsequent MACE and HF. Vitamin D therapy for ACS patients resulted in a substantial decline in end systolic and end diastolic volumes (p = 0.0075 and 0.002, respectively), procollagen type III N-terminal peptide (PIIINP) and soluble ST2 levels (p = 0.007 and 0.001, respectively), as well as in ejection fraction and vitamin D level (p = 0.0001 and 0.008, respectively). In addition, vitamin D treatment was linked to a significant decline in the levels of noncoding RNA, such as mir361, lncRNA MEG3, and lncRNA Chaer (p = 2.9 × 10−4, 2.2 × 10−6, and 1.2 × 10−5, respectively). Furthermore, patients who suffered MACE had significantly higher levels of the Bsm I CC and Fok I GG genotypes (p = 4.8 × 10−4 and 0.003, respectively), while patients with HF had significantly higher levels of the Taq I AA genotype (p = 4.2 × 10−7). Supplementing ACS patients with vitamin D has been demonstrated to limit cardiac fibrosis and echocardiographic parameters, as well as epigenetic markers. Additionally, MACE and HF among ACS patients may be related to genetic variations among VDR gene polymorphisms.

Abstract

Natural convection heat transfer from periodically ribbed vertical surfaces is targeted for upscaling, incorporating the analysis of thermal conduction through the microscale ribs. Asymptotic homogenization theory is employed, considering the steady conjugate heat transfer problem, to formulate second-order accurate effective conditions for velocity and temperature at a fictitious plane surface, beyond which the macroscale behavior of the flow is computed. This allows to avoid the numerically expensive resolution of fields within and through the microstructured corrugations. For the streamwise velocity component, the no-slip boundary condition is corrected at first order (in terms of a small parameter ϵ , ratio of microscopic to macroscopic length scales) by the classical Navier-slip condition plus a buoyancy term, while the gradient of the normal stress appears at second order together with a temperature-gradient term. The temperature at the virtual boundary deviates from the uniform value at the baseplate; the thermal slip is described via a first-order temperature-gradient term with a coefficient depending on rib geometry and thermal conductivity. Different case studies are conducted on the case of transverse square ribs, varying the density of the pattern and the rib-to-fluid thermal conductivity ratio, to provide extensive validation of the model against full feature-resolving simulations. Beyond the validation phase, a better understanding of the effects of different parameters on the heat transfer performance is pursued. The presence of ribs is found to decrease the overall heat transfer rate from the surface, and this deterioration is only partially alleviated by raising the thermal conductivity of the ribs. Increasing the number of conducting ribs on the hot surface has a complex, non-monotonic effect on the heat transfer rate, unlike the case of adiabatic ribs where the average Nusselt number decays monotonically. Abstract

The current study was conducted to investigate the protective properties of Eucalyptus globulus leaves methanolic extract (EGLME) against diclofenac sodium (DS) induced hepatorenal and testicular toxicity in male rats. A total of 40 rats were equally divided into 4 groups, Control, Diclofenac sodium (DS), EGLME and DS + EGLME groups, respectively. DS and EGLME were administered orally at dose rate 2.5 and 100 mg/kg BW, 4 times/week for 8 weeks, respectively. Administration of DS distorted hepatorenal functions manifested by alteration of serum levels of ALT, AST, total protein and albumin, creatinine and urea with changes of histological architectures. DS caused reproductive toxicity represented by minimized sperm count, individual sperm motility and viability; depleted concentration of reduced glutathione (GSH) in testicular tissue; and decreased testosterone level with alteration in testicular histological features. In contrast, co-treatment of DS intoxicated rats with EGLME protected rats against the adverse effects of DS revealing enhancing properties of EGLME on rats’ liver, kidney and testes. In conclusion, we demonstrated that EGLME had a potent protecting property against DS induced hepatic, renal and testicular toxicity in male rats, with special concern to testicular tissue via modulation of GSH as an oxidant marker. In this paper, we are going to introduce the Kottamia Astronomical Observatory, KAO, to the astronomical community. The current status of the telescope together with the available instrumentations is described. An upgrade stage including a new optical system and a computer controlling of both the telescope and dome are achieved. The specifications of a set of CCD cameras for direct imaging and spectroscopy are given. A grating spectrograph is recently gifted to KAO from Okayama Astrophysical Observatory, OAO, of the National Astronomical Observatories in Japan.
