2. Adaptive learning based content management tool for online education platforms.

Abstract

The ways of accessing information are highly developed today. Online education platforms are widely used directly or indirectly in the education of students. Instructors create their course content on these platforms and teach their courses to their students. With the developing internet technologies, the variety of visual, audio and textual course content is also increasing. However, students' learning tendencies differ while studying these course contents. While some of the students can learn more easily from course content consisting only of texts, others can learn more easily from course content supported by audio-visual materials. Identifying these learning differences among students has become important today. In order to enrich learning activities, it would be useful to create content in accordance with the learning tendencies of each student. In this study, we developed an adaptive learning-based help tool for instructors to create course content. This tool analyzes the learning styles of the students and provides recommendations to the instructor for creating the course content. Thus, all the course content prepared by the instructor will be selected and created according to the learning tendencies of the students. Abstract

A tool is presented that can automatically assess the quality of students’ concept maps and provide feedback based on a reference concept map. It is shown that this tool can effectively assess the quality of concept maps, and that it can provide accurate and helpful feedback on a number of specific shortcomings often evident in students’ concept maps. This article proposes a generic presentation system for hypermedia systems of adaptive teaching that is highly independent from the representation of domain knowledge and the application state maintenance. Generality is achieved by providing an application framework for the definition of ontologies that best fit a domain or a specific author. The presentation of the pages to be generated is described in terms of classes and relationships of the ontology. For this purpose, a web page ranking algorithm based on automatic learning is used, specifically, the algorithm for Advanced Cluster Vector Page Ranking (ACVPR). This algorithm provides the user a powerful meta-search tool that presents a ranking order of the web page to quickly meet custom needs, especially when the search is erroneous or incomplete. Author/s Alejandro Curado Fuentes University of Extremadura, Spain ABSTRACT This paper describes the results from the analysis of English and Spanish corpora from the CHILDES database for the design of adapted hypermedia (AHS) content in English at the pre-elementary school level. In general, linguistic and paralinguistic information from selected CHILDES transcripts can contribute to the organisation of pedagogical content. In the corpus analysis, it is found that many conversational patterns in children’s L1, mainly collaborative situations, present significant multimodal aspects, which are often correlated with meta-discursive items and markers. The integration of specific multimodal traits in the AHS lessons can be useful for the learners’ L2 development. The use of AHS serves as a naturally resulting resource for multimodality and interactiveness in children’s L2 communicative development.

This article is a continuation of our work concerning the development of the adaptive hypermedia; and precisely the adaptation model, which is one of the three fundamental models that constitute the main architecture of adaptive learning systems. The adaptation model describes the set of rules of construction and presentation responsible for the construction of the content to be delivered to the learner. Although there is a lot of adaptation model proposed by reference models like (MUNICH and ALEM), these models are on a high level of abstraction and also were never been implemented (lack of concrete implementation). So, the main purpose of this article is to present our own adaptation model that has the capacity to be implemented and that responds to all the remarks and shortcomings of the existing models while showing implementations and tests (technically) that we have developed. Abstract

Se propone la aplicación de los Sistemas de Hipermedia Adaptativa para la formación en la disciplina Sistemas y Tecnologías de la Información para el Contador de la Universidad de La Habana, bajo un enfoque que requiere la inserción de contenidos diversos que fortalezcan el proceso de interdisciplinariedad, y que proceda a la combinación de tecnologías y áreas diferentes del conocimiento en una asignatura integradora. Se emplea el método Delphi en la búsqueda de un consenso en torno a los principales aportes contenidos en la presente investigación, de forma tal que el resultado de su aplicación se concrete en la evaluación integral de los mismos y en la elevación de sus potencialidades formativas. It is proposed to apply AHS in the Information Systems and Technologies subject for Accounting career in La Habana University under the support of an approach where the integration of different content to strengthen the interdisciplinary process required is proposed; and it combines technologies and other knowledge areas in just one integral subject. The Delphi method is used in the searching for a consensus on the main contributions contained in this research, so that the result of the application becomes in a whole evaluation of the results, and permits raising their educational potential. A implementação da disciplina SHAE Sistemas e Tecnologia da Informação para a contra Havana Universidade com o apoio de uma abordagem em que a integração de diferentes conteúdos para fortalecer o processo interdisciplinar necessária é proposto, e proceder combinação de tecnologias e de diferentes áreas do conhecimento em um curso integrado. O método Delphi foi utilizado na busca de um consenso sobre as principais contribuições contidas nesta pesquisa, de modo que o resultado de sua aplicação concreta na avaliação global dos mesmos, e em elevar o seu potencial educativo.

Abstract

Adaptive Learning Systems have been developed to improve learning success by increasing learner satisfaction, learning speed, and educational effectiveness. However, authoring adaptive eLearning structures is still a complicated task for lecturers, because they are unaccustomed to the way of thinking and to the workflows that are needed for the creation process. This paper describes a research project developing a concept that helps authors with the structure creation process, focussed on sequencing of content. Therefore, the issue was approached from the authors' perspective. First, storytelling theory has helped understand content structures and provided insights into how authors work. Second, by investigating the linear structure of learning content, information for sequencing could be extracted, providing the basis for an approach that is based on relations of different authors' content, and defining interdependencies that delinearise the content structure. This paper aims to present the personalized learning - also known as adaptive - its methods, technics and systems. With this article, we want to advance in that kind of research that stands out in the corporate field, but lacks at in-depth academic research. The educational environment needs more work that defers from mere adaptations of techniques used by companies, whose main goal is only profit. In this paper, we discuss taxonomy, specific methods used by the software available for this purpose, adaptive presentation techniques of the content and its variables, ways of navigation developed specially for this type of content, context and its use for the types of personalization wanted, the different kinds of learning and the relation with metacognition. For this work, we used a bibliographical methodology, encompassing the most updated and broad literature discussion. 19. ?Let's Set Up Some Subgoals?: Understanding Human-Pedagogical Agent Collaborations and Their Implications for Learning and Prompt and Feedback Compliance.

Abstract

Research on collaborative learning between humans and virtual pedagogical agents represents a necessary extension to recent research on the conceptual, theoretical, methodological, analytical, and educational issues behind co- and socially-shared regulated learning between humans. This study presents a novel coding framework that was developed and used to describe collaborations between learners and a pedagogical agent (PA) during a subgoal setting activity with MetaTutor, an intelligent tutoring system. Learner-PA interactions were examined across two scaffolding conditions: prompt and feedback (PF), and control. Learners’ compliance to follow the PA's prompts and feedback in the PF condition were also examined. Results demonstrated that learners followed the PA's prompts and feedback to help them set more appropriate subgoals for their learning session the majority of the time. Descriptive statistics revealed that when subgoals were set collaboratively between learners and the PA, they generally lead to higher proportional learning gains when compared to less collaboratively set goals. Taken together, the results provide preliminary evidence that learners are both willing to engage in and benefit from collaborative interactions with PAs when immediate, directional feedback and the opportunity to try again are provided. Abstract

A tool is presented that can automatically assess the quality of students' concept maps and provide feedback based on a reference concept map. It is shown that this tool can effectively assess the quality of concept maps, and that it can provide accurate and helpful feedback on a number of specific shortcomings often evident in students' concept maps. However, it was also found that students who had access to feedback often did not request it, or did not take full advantage of the feedback given.

Abstract

Recommender systems appeared in the early 90s to help users deal with cognitive overload brought by the internet. From there to now, such systems have assumed many other roles like help users to explore, improve decision making, or even entertain. The system needs to look to user characteristics to accomplish such new goals. These characteristics help understand what the user task is and how to adapt the recommendation to support such task. Related research has proposed recommender systems in education. These recommender systems help learners to find the educational resources most fit for their needs. In this paper, we present an integration model between recommender and adaptive hypermedia systems. It results in a new process for educational resource recommendation, using a new algorithm of adaptive recommendation. Through a prototype and an online experiment on the educational scenario, we proved that AwARE could improve the recommendation accuracy, interaction with the system, and user satisfaction. Besides the prototype description, the paper presents a protocol to evaluate the proposed approach by both the providers’ and consumers’ point of view.

Abstract

In this paper adaptive learning system "Eschool" is reviewed. The system "E-school" is implemented and tested in the education system in secondary school on the students of first and second year for the subject Informatics. We evaluate average grade on the students in 9 classes before and after using on the system "E-school". The results obtained from the overall testing before and after using the system "E-school" are processed with statistical data analysis. ملخص البحث هدف البحث الحالي إلى استکشاف أثر تکنولوجيا الوسائط التکيفية على تنمية التحصيل مهارات التعلم النقال لدى طلاب کلية التربية، ولذلک تم تصميم وتطوير محتوى التعلم النقال بشکل تکيفي وفقا لتکنولوجيا الوسائط التکيفية عبر الإنترنت، ولتحقيق هدف البحث تم الاعتماد على المنهج الوصفي والمنهج التجريبي، وتکونت عينة البحث من (35) طالبا من طلاب الفرقة الثالثة بکلية التربية بجامعة السويس، وأظهرت النتائج وجود تأثير واضح لتکنولوجيا الوسائط التکيفية على تنمية التحصيل وأداء الطلاب لمهارات استخدام تطبيقات التعلم النقال، وفي ضوء ذلک نستنتج أن تکنولوجيا الوسائط التکيفية تعلب دورا هاما في تحسين تعلم الطلاب بمرحلة التعليم الجامعي، حيث توفر بيئة تعلم مرنة تراعي خصائص الطلاب واحتياجاتهم وتفضيلاتهم التعليمية، فضلا عن خفض العبء المعرفي وتعزيز بقاء أثر التعلم، وتحسين الأداء. Abstract This study aimed to investigate the impact of adaptive hypermedia technology on developing achievement and mobile learning skills among the Faculty of Education students. The adaptive content was designed and developed according to adaptive hypermedia technology. This study depended on the descriptive and experimental approaches. The sample included (35) third-year students at the Faculty of Education, Suez University. The results showed significant impact of adaptive hypermedia technology on developing the achievement and m-learning skills among the students. Accordingly, we concluded that adaptive hypermedia technology plays an important role in improving students' learning in higher education. Furthermore, providing a flexible learning environment based on students' characteristics, needs, and learning preferences.
