We aimed to report the case of a Pakistani female who presented with MMD and hyperthyroidism, and the worldwide literature review of the case reports on MMD associated with hyperthyroidism. Methods: The study was carried out using PRISMA’s recommendations. An electronic search on PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar was carried out. Articles explaining the association between Moyamoya disease and thyroid-related diseases were included. Results: A total of 31 studies were included in the review, with the preponderance of Japanese females. The review has systematically compiled in detail all the aspects of moyamoya syndrome and thyroid disorders- from detailed histories of the included patients to the treatment interventions used and their outcomes. Conclusion: The authors are with the suggestion that more cases of MMD and its association with other major factors should be presented in Pakistan as well as in all parts of the world.

Solution-based synthesis of mixed ionic and electronic conductors (MIECs) has enabled the development of novel inorganic materials with implications for a wide range of energy storage applications. However, many technologically relevant MIECs contain toxic elements (Pb) or are prepared by using traditional high-temperature solid-state synthesis. Here, we provide a simple, low-temperature and size-tunable (50–90 nm) colloidal hot injection approach for the synthesis of NaSbS2 based MIECs using widely available and non-toxic precursors. Key synthetic parameters (cationic precursor, reaction temperature, and ligand) are examined to regulate the shape and size of the NaSbS2 nanocrystals (NCs). FTIR studies revealed that ligands with carboxylate functionality are coordinated to the surface of the synthesized NaSbS2 NCs. The synthesized NaSbS2 nanocrystals have electronic and ionic conductivities of 3.31 × 10−10 (e−) and 1.9 × 10−5 (Na+) S cm−1 respectively, which are competitive with the ionic and electrical conductivities of perovskite materials generated by solid-state reactions. This research gives a mechanistic understanding and post-synthetic evaluation of parameters influencing the formation of sodium antimony chalcogenides materials.

Here we report the use of 1D SixGe1−x (x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) alloy nanowires (NWs) as anode materials for Na-ion batteries (NIBs). The strategy involves the synthesis of crystalline SixGe1−x NWs via the solution–liquid–solid (SLS) mechanism, followed by amorphization to activate the material for Na-ion cycling within a NIB. This study demonstrates the successful activation of SixGe1−x amorphous NW alloys, with a-Si0.5Ge0.5 delivering 250 mA h g−1 as compared to a-Ge NWs delivering only 107 mA h g−1 after 100 cycles. Also, amorphization proved to be a critical step, since crystalline NWs failed to activate in NIBs. However, Si NWs performed poorly during Na-ion cycling even after amorphization, and this behavior was explained by poor comparative Na-ion diffusivity. Further investigations on the impact of the relative content of Ge within the amorphized SixGe1−x NWs, Na-ion diffusivity and electrode degradation during cycling were also performed. Notably, the incorporation of Ge in the a-SixGe1−x alloy boosted Na ion diffusivity in the amorphized alloy, resulting in improved cycling performance and rate capability as compared to parent a-Si and a-Ge NWs.

Proton Pump inhibitors are widely used among the majority of the world's population as acid-suppressing medications. Proton Pump Inhibitors have been reported to cause intestinal damage and adverse gut microbiota changes affecting several mechanisms, including malabsorption, etc.In order to gain a deeper understanding, we conducted a cohort analysis to assess the prevalenceassociation of Vitamin B12 deficiency in patients on long-term use of PPIs.This single-center cohort study was conducted at the Department of Internal Medicine, KRL hospital in Islamabad, Pakistan from May 2021 to May 2022. Rao soft calculator with a 95% confidence interval and 5% error margin was used to find the estimated sample size. Vitamin BAmong the 1225 participants, more than half of the men (55.10%) had low levels of vitamin B12. Vit B12 levels were observed to be significantly lower in Omeprazole patients than in Pantoprazole patients. A vitamin B12 deficiency is 0.5 times more likely in patients taking PPIs. There is a substantial difference between the early and final levels of B12 indicated by theAccording to our findings, long-term usage of PPIs is linked to an increased risk of vitamin B12 insufficiency specifically in men falling under the ages of 18 and 40.

Schizophrenia is a complex medical illness characterized by hallucinations, delusions, and cognitive issues. Olanzapine, a second-generation antipsychotic widely prescribed for schizophrenia has proven to be efficacious, however, its use is associated with major adverse effects such as weight gain, metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus. Recently, FDA approved a combination dose of olanzapine and samidorphan (OLZ/SAM) to mitigate the adverse outcomes associated with olanzapine use for the treatment of Schizophrenia.The approval of olanzapine/samidorphan combination by FDA in treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder has been a milestone. This article summarizes the clinical trials reporting the clinical efficacy and adverse effects of olanzapine/samidorphan combination along with their bias assessment.Pubmed, science direct, Ovid SP and Google Scholar were comprehensively searched for data collection. Clinical trials reporting the efficacy and adverse outcomes of the OLZ/SAM regimen were included in the review and the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool (RoB 2.0, version 2019) was used to assess the risk of bias in each study.Five trials employed the use of Positive and Negative Syndrome Scales (PANSS) and Clinical Global Impression-Severity (CGI-S) scale to assess the efficacy of OLZ/SAM. Overall, OLZ/SAM showed a significant reduction in PANSS total scores and CGI-S scores and might be a viable option for long-term treatment. The safety of combined therapy is assessed by trials considering the factors of ECG parameters, suicidal events, and movement disorders. Major adverse events included nervous system disorders, changes in blood chemistry, and metabolic or nutritional disorders, with worsening of adverse outcomes observed in a total of nineteen cases in six studies.The FDA-approved drug recombination of OLZ/SAM for the treatment of schizophrenia revealed efficacious outcomes and was generally well tolerated by patients partaking in various trials. The potential of samidorphan in mimicking the efficacy of olanzapine while mitigating olanzapine-induced weight gain makes it a promising regimen for improving symptoms and health outcomes in schizophrenic patients.
