Resumen: Actualmente, la apnea obstructiva del sueño (AOS) se define como un índice de apena hipopnea (IAH) de 5 eventos por hora. Este índice se basa en la frecuencia de los eventos respiratorios en función del tiempo. El IAH se usa como índice para predecir severidad de la enfermedad y para definir intervenciones terapéuticas. Sin embargo, el IAH no logra captar la heterogeneidad sustancial existente en la AOS (patrones de hipoxemia, respuesta simpática y diferencias de género). En los últimos años, se han descrito múltiples métricas derivadas del análisis de las señales del oxímetro de pulso, de la frecuencia cardíaca, electroencefalograma y señales de ventilación. Este artículo se enfocará en aquellas métricas validadas a través de estudios externos y de mayor proyección clínica. Abstract: Currently, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is defined as having an apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) of 5 events per hour. The AHI is based on the frequency of respiratory events over time and is used to predict disease severity and guide therapeutic interventions. However, the AHI fails to capture the substantial heterogeneity present in OSA, including patterns of hypoxemia, sympathetic response, and gender differences. In recent years, multiple metrics derived from pulse oximeter signals, heart rate, electroencephalogram, and ventilation signals have been described. This article will focus on those metrics that have been validated through external studies and possess greater clinical relevance.

Gastric diseases represent a significant global public health challenge, characterized by molecular dysregulation in redox homeostasis and heightened oxidative stress. Although prior preclinical studies have demonstrated the cytoprotective antioxidant effects of alginate oligosaccharides (AOSs) through the Nrf2 pathway, whether such mechanisms apply to gastric diseases remains unclear. In this study, we used the GES-1 gastric cell line exposed to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) as a damage model to investigate the impact of AOS on cell viability and its associated mechanisms. Our results revealed that pre-incubation with AOS for either 4 h or 24 h significantly improved the viability of GES-1 cells exposed to H2O2. In addition, AOS reduced the intracellular ROS levels, activating the Nrf2 signaling pathway, with increased Nrf2 protein and mRNA expression and a significant upregulation of the target genes HO-1 and NQO1. The activation of Nrf2 was correlated with decreased Keap1 protein expression and an increased level of the autophagy protein p62/SQSTM1, suggesting the activation of Nrf2 through a noncanonical pathway. This study suggests that AOS is a potential treatment for protecting gastric epithelial cells from oxidative stress by activating the p62/SQSTM1-Keap1-Nrf2 axis and laying the foundation for future investigations about its specific therapeutic mechanisms. Flowers are crucial for the reproduction of flowering plants and their senescence has drastic effects on plant-animal interactions as well as pollination. Petal senescence is the final phase of flower development which is regulated by hormones and genes. Among these, jasmonic acid (JA) has emerged as a major contributor to petal senescence, but its molecular mechanisms remain elusive. Here, the role of JA in petal senescence in Arabidopsis was investigated. We showed that petal senescence in aos mutant was significantly delayed, which also affected petal cell size and proliferation. Similar significant delays in petal senescence were observed in dad1 and coi1 mutants. However, MYB21/24 and MYC2/3/4, known downstream regulators of JA in flower development, played no role in petal senescence. This indicated that JA regulates petal senescence by modulating other unknown transcription factors. Transcriptomic analysis revealed that AOS altered the expression of 3681 genes associated, and identified groups of differentially expressed transcription factors, highlighting the potential involvement of AP-2, WRKY and NAC. Furthermore, bHLH13, bHLH17 and URH2 were identified as potential new regulators of JA-mediated petal senescence. In conclusion, our findings suggest a novel genetic pathway through which JA regulates petal senescence in Arabidopsis. Various stressors lead to an increase in ROS and damage to plant tissues. Plants have a powerful antioxidant system (AOS), which allows them to neutralize excess ROS. We detected an intense fluorescent glow of ROS in the cells of the cap, meristem, and elongation zones in the roots of wheat Triticum aestivum (Orenburgskaya 22 variety) and Triticum durum (Zolotaya variety). An increase in ROS was accompanied by DNA breaks in the nuclei of wheat root cells, the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytoplasm, and the translocation of phosphatidylserine into the outer layer of the plasma membrane under salt stress and hypoxia. The different resistances of the two wheat varieties to different abiotic stresses were revealed. The soft wheat variety Orenburgskaya 22 showed high resistance to salt stress but sensitivity to hypoxia, and the durum wheat variety Zolotaya showed tolerance to hypoxia but high sensitivity to salt stress. Different activations of AOS components (GSH, MnSOD, Cu/ZnSOD, CAT, PX, GPX, and GST) were revealed in different wheat genotypes. The basis for the tolerance of the Zolotaya variety to hypoxia is the high content of glutathione (GSH) and the activation of glutathione-dependent enzymes. One of the mechanisms of high resistance to salt stress in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety is a decrease in the level of ROS as a result of the increased activity of the MnSOD and Cu/ZnSOD genes. Clostridioides difficile infection is expected to become the most common healthcare-associated infection worldwide. C. difficile-induced pathogenicity is significantly attributed to its enterotoxin, TcdA, which primarily targets Rho-GTPases involved in regulating cytoskeletal and tight junction (TJ) dynamics, thus leading to cytoskeleton breakdown and ultimately increased intestinal permeability. This study investigated whether two non-digestible oligosaccharides (NDOs), alginate (AOS) and chitosan (COS) oligosaccharides, possess antipathogenic and barrier-protective properties against C. difficile bacteria and TcdA toxin, respectively. Both NDOs significantly reduced C. difficile growth, while cell cytotoxicity assays demonstrated that neither COS nor AOS significantly attenuated the TcdA-induced cell death 24 h post-exposure. The challenge of Caco-2 monolayers with increasing TcdA concentrations increased paracellular permeability, as measured by TEER and LY flux assays. In this experimental setup, COS completely abolished, and AOS mitigated, the deleterious effects of TcdA on the monolayer's integrity. These events were not accompanied by alterations in ZO-1 and occludin protein levels; however, immunofluorescence microscopy revealed that both AOS and COS prevented the TcdA-induced occludin mislocalization. Finally, both NDOs accelerated TJ reassembly upon a calcium-switch assay. Overall, this study established the antipathogenic and barrier-protective capacity of AOS and COS against C. difficile and its toxin, TcdA, while revealing their ability to promote TJ reassembly in Caco-2 cells. Background: Salt stress is a multicomponent phenomenon; it includes many processes that directly or indirectly affect the plant. Attempts have been made to comprehensively consider the processes of salt stress in plants Triticum aestivum (variety Orenburgskaya 22) and Triticum durum (variety Zolotaya). Methods: The study used methods of light and fluorescence microscopy, methods of immunofluorodetection, expression of DNA methyltransferase genes, genes of the ion transporter and superoxide dismutase families, as well as biochemical determination of total antioxidant activity using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reagent. Results: According to morphometric indicators, the Orenburgskaya 22 variety showed greater tolerance to the action of 150 mM NaCl than the Zolotaya variety. The level of expression of genes of the HKT ion transporter family in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety is higher than in the Zolotaya variety. It was found that the expression of the DNA methyltransferase gene DRM2.1, which post-translationally methylates cytosine residues, is 22.3 times higher in Zolotaya compared to Orenburg 22 when exposed to salt. The accumulation of toxic ions is accompanied by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increased damage to root tissue, especially in the Zolotaya variety. Using fluorescence microscopy using the Carboxy-H2DFF marker in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety at high NaCl concentrations, the highest fluorescence intensity was determined in the cap zone; in the Zolotaya variety—in the zones of the cap and root meristem. Excess ROS is more successfully removed in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety, which has a higher level of antioxidant activity (AOA), as well as the level of expression of the Cu/ZnSOD and MnSOD superoxide dismutase genes. Using programmed cell death (PCD) markers based on the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytoplasm, DNA breakage and the release of phosphatidylserine from mitochondria, the degree of damage to root cells was assessed in both wheat varieties. It has been proven that wheat cell death occurs through the mitochondrial pathway. It was noted that the salt-sensitive variety Zolotaya had a significant number of necrotic cells. Conclusion: Based on the data obtained, it was concluded that the Orenburgskaya 22 variety exhibits greater resistance to salinity than the Zolotaya variety. These data may be of practical importance for enhancing protective mechanisms under abiotic stress.

Background and importanceApraxia of speech is a disorder of articulatory coordination and planning in speech sound production. Its diagnosis is based on deficits in articulation, prosody, and fluency. It is often described concurrent with aphasia or dysarthria, while pure apraxia of speech is a rare entity.Clinical presentationA right-handed man underwent focal surgical resection of a recurrent grade III astrocytoma in the left hemisphere dorsal premotor cortex located in the posterior middle frontal gyrus. After the procedure, he experienced significant long-term speech production difficulties. A battery of standard and custom language and articulatory assessments were administered, revealing intact comprehension and naming abilities, and preserved strength in orofacial articulators, but considerable deficits in articulatory coordination, fluency, and prosody-consistent with diagnosis of pure apraxia of speech. Tractography and resection volumes compared with publicly available imaging data from the Human Connectome Project suggest possible overlap with area 55b, an under-recognized language area in the dorsal premotor cortex and has white matter connectivity with the superior longitudinal fasciculus.ConclusionThe case reported here details a rare clinical entity, pure apraxia of speech resulting from resection of posterior middle frontal gyrus. While not a classical language area, emerging literature supports the role of this area in the production of fluent speech, and has implications for surgical planning and the general neurobiology of language.

Liver diseases are associated with many factors, including medicines and alcoholics, which have become a global problem. It is crucial to overcome this problem. Liver diseases always come with inflammatory complications, which might be a potential target to deal with this issue. Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) have been demonstrated to have many beneficial effects, especially anti-inflammation. In this study, 40 mg/kg body weight (BW) of busulfan was intraperitoneally injected once, and then the mice were dosed with ddH2O or AOS 10 mg/kg BW every day by oral gavage for five weeks. We investigated AOS as a potential no-side-effect and low-cost therapy for liver diseases. For the first time, we discovered that AOS 10 mg/kg recovered liver injury by decreasing the inflammation-related factors. Moreover, AOS 10 mg/kg could improve the blood metabolites related to immune and anti-tumor effects, and thus, ameliorated impaired liver function. Summary. The problem of bronchial asthma (BA) prevention and treatment in combination with obesity can be solved only on the basis of a deep understanding of the biochemical and physiological mechanisms of two pathologies formation. Among the biochemical mechanisms underlying their development, the processes of free radical and peroxidation occupy a special place. The lungs and liver are the main target organs in the combination of ВA and obesity pathologies. However, despite the prevalence of these diseases, today's science has rather insignificant data on the state of LPO-AOS of the liver specifically in BA and obesity, and especially the effect of antioxidants on it, which requires study. The aim of the study – to determine the parameters of LPO-AOS in the liver of rats in an experimental model of obesity and ВA and the effect of Mexidol on them. Materials and Methods. The study included 20 white non-linear sexually mature rats. Experimental animals were divided into 4 groups: intact – control group (5 rats), group 1 – observation group on day 15 without Mexidol correction (5 rats), group 2 – observation group on day 26 without Mexidol correction (5 rats) and group 3 – observation group on day 26 after Mexidol correction experiment (5 rats). Цель работы — изучить эффективность комплексного лечения химических ожогов глаз с использованием фотодинамической терапии (ФДТ) и инстилляций виксипина по данным импрессионной цитологии (ИЦ) и биохимическим показателям слезной жидкости (СЖ). Материал и методы. Обследовано и пролечено 104 пациента (146 глаз) в возрасте от 18 до 72 лет с ожогом глаз I, II и III степени. К стандартному лечению добавлена ФДТ (I группа, 35 пациентов, 48 глаз) и сочетание ФДТ с инстилляциями препарата Виксипин (Солофарм, Россия) — глазные капли (II группа, 32 пациента, 46 глаз). Группу сравнения (стандартная терапия) составили 37 пациентов (52 глаза). Эффективность лечения оценивалась с помощью ИЦ и биохимических анализов СЖ на 7-й день лечения.Результаты. Исходные данные ИЦ свидетельствуют о смещении показателей цитограммы в сторону ядерных структур, во всех группах ядерно-цитоплазматическое отношение (ЯЦО) составило в среднем 0,068. В результате лечения у пациентов основных (I и II) групп определялось преобладание репаративных процессов в эпителиальных клетках, при этом ЯЦО увеличилось до 0,290 ± 0,010 в I и 0,320 ± 0,014 во II группе, что превышало в 3,9 и 4,5 раза соответственно аналогичные показатели в группе сравнения. Уровень стабильных метаболитов оксида азота в СЖ при добавлении виксипина достоверно снизился по отношению к значениям до лечения в 1,59 раза и составил 4,21 ± 0,32 мк моль/л. Данный показатель оказался в 1,23 раза ниже, чем в I группе, и приблизился к нормативным показателям (3,52 ± 0,23), превышая их в 1,19 раза. Заключение. An accurate and stable reservoir prediction model is essential for oil location and production. We propose an predictive hybrid model ILSTM-BRVFL based on an improved long short-term memory network (IAOS-LSTM) and a bidirectional random vector functional link (Bidirectional-RVFL) for this problem. Firstly, the Atomic Orbit Search algorithm (AOS) is used to perform collective optimization of the parameters to improve the stability and accuracy of the LSTM model for high-dimensional feature extraction. At the same time, there is still room to improve the optimization capability of the AOS. Therefore, an improvement scheme to further enhance the optimization capability is proposed. Then, the LSTM-extracted high-dimensional features are fed into the random vector functional link (RVFL) to improve the prediction of high-dimensional features by the RVFL, which is modified as the bidirectional RVFL. The proposed ILSTM-BRVFL (IAOS) model achieves an average prediction accuracy of 95.28%, compared to the experimental results. The model's accuracy, recall values, and F1 values also showed good performance, and the prediction ability achieved the expected results. The comparative analysis and the degree of improvement in the model results show that the high-dimensional extraction of the input data by LSTM is the most significant improvement in prediction accuracy. Background: Aplasia cutis congenita (ACC) and terminal transverse limb defects (TTLDs) are the most common features of Adams-Oliver syndrome (AOS). ARHGAP31 is one of the causative genes for autosomal dominant forms of AOS, meanwhile its variants may only cause isolated TTLD. Here, we report a proband presented with apparent TTLD but not ACC. Methods: Whole exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing were applied to identify causative genes. Expression vectors were constructed for transfections in mammalian cell cultures followed by biochemical and functional analysis including immunoblotting, immunofluorescence staining, and cell counting kit-8 assay. Results: WES and Sanger sequencing suggested that the proband inherited rare ARHGAP31 variant [c.2623G > A (p.Glu875Lys)] and a rare FBLN1 variant [c.1649G > A (p.Arg550His)] from one of her asymptomatic parents, respectively. Given FBLN1 variation has also been linked to syndactyly, we suspected that the two genes together contributed to the TTLD phenotype and explored their possible roles in vitro. Mutant FBLN1 showed reduced expression resulted from impaired protein stability, whereas ARHGAP31 protein expression was unaltered by mutation. Functional assays showed that only in the co-transfected group of two mutants cell viability was decreased, cell proliferation was impaired, and apoptosis was activated. Cdc42 activity was declined by both ARHGAP31 mutation and FBLN1 mutation alone, and the two together. Furthermore, the MAPK/ERK pathway was only activated by two mutants co-transfected group compared with two wild-type transfections. Conclusion: We report a case carrying two rare variants of limb defects associated genes, ARHGAP31 and FBLN1, and provide in vitro evidence that synergistic disruption of cellular functions attributed by the two mutants may potentiate the penetrance of clinical manifestations, expanding our knowledge of clinical complexity of causal gene interactions in TTLD and other genetic disorders. Introduction: In recent years, childhood obesity and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) during childhood have been defined as a Public Health problem, becoming a challenge for professionals at the same time. Both entities are considered to have a familial and genetic association. Methodology: Prospective study in children between 3 and 14 years old, referred for clinical suspicion of OSA to the "Multidisciplinary Sleep Unit". The study groups were divided according to whether or not they presented obesity and whether or not they presented OSA. Objective: Describe the characteristics of the personal and family history in each study group. Results: The obese group had a median birth weight percentile of 69 and the non-obese group of 35.5 (p=0.241). Regarding the family history, the obese father and mother are more obese than the non-obese (p=0.005, p=0.032). In family history of OSA between children with and without OSA, we found no differences, fathers (p=0.741), mothers (p=0.453), siblings (p=0.242). Other personal history studied and associated with OSA, we did not find differences between OSA and non-OSA either. Conclusion: Our study reveals the importance of a history of obesity from early stages of life, and the implication that a family member is also obese. We did not find a family association of OSA in our series. A good clinical history can help us to detect numerous personal and family factors that will condition children's health. Using a photoconductive antenna to generate terahertz (THz) waves is a common method, and the material of the antenna is usually low-temperature gallium arsenide (LT-GaAs). A LT-GaAs epitaxial wafer with four layers structure is prepared in this paper, and then the LT-GaAs thin film is obtained by etching the aluminium arsenide (AlAs) with dilute hydrochloric acid and transferring it to the silicon wafer to make a thin film photoconductive antenna. The performance of the antenna is evaluated using an asynchronous optical sampling (AOS) terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) system with variable repetition frequency. The system uses the spectral coherence method of two lasers to obtain trigger signals and generates THz signals with high signal-to-noise ratio. This also confirms that the system has the advantages of high spectral resolution and fast detection speed. It has incomparable advantages over the traditional THz-TDS system in the environment requiring rapid measurement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Alginate is a water-soluble and acidic polysaccharide derived from the cell wall and intercellular substance of brown algae. It is widely distributed in brown algae, such as Laminaria, Sargassum, and Macrocystis, etc. Alginate lyase can catalytically degrade alginate in a β-eliminating manner, and its degradation product-alginate oligosaccharide (AOS) has been widely used in agriculture, medicine, cosmetics and other fields due to its wide range of biological activities. This article is mainly to make a brief introduction to the classification, source and application of alginate lyase. We hope this minireview can provide some inspirations for its development and utilization.

ABSTRACT High-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity is known to be associated with reduced male fertility and decreased semen quality in humans. HFD-related male infertility is a growing issue worldwide, and it is crucial to overcome this problem to ameliorate the distress of infertile couples. For the first time, we discovered that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) of alginate oligosaccharide (AOS)-improved gut microbiota (A10-FMT) ameliorated HFD-decreased semen quality (sperm concentration: 286.1 ± 14.1 versus 217.9 ± 17.4 million/mL; sperm motility: 40.1 ± 0.7% versus 29.0 ± 0.9%), and male fertility (pregnancy rate: 87.4 ± 1.1% versus 70.2 ± 6.1%) by benefiting blood and testicular metabolome. A10-FMT improved HFD-disturbed gut microbiota by increasing gut Bacteroides (colon: 24.9 ± 1.1% versus 8.3 ± 0.6%; cecum: 10.2 ± 0.7% versus 3.6 ± 0.7%) and decreasing Mucispirillum (colon: 0.3 ± 0.1% versus 2.8 ± 0.4%; cecum: 2.3 ± 0.5% versus 6.6 ± 0.7%). A10-FMT benefited gut microbiota to improve liver function by adjusting lipid metabolism to produce n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as eicosapentaenoic acid (blood: 55.5 ± 18.7 versus 20.3 ± 2.4) and docosahexaenoic acid (testis: 121.2 ± 6.2 versus 89.4 ± 6.7), thus ameliorating HFD-impaired testicular microenvironment to rescue spermatogenesis and increase semen quality and fertility. The findings indicated that AOS-improved gut microbiota may be a promising strategy to treat obesity or metabolic issues-related male infertility in the future. IMPORTANCE HFD decreases male fertility via upsetting gut microbiota and transplantation of AOS-benefited gut microbiota (A10-FMT) improves gut microbiota to ameliorate HFD-reduced male fertility. Moreover, A10-FMT improved liver function to benefit the blood metabolome and simultaneously ameliorated the testicular microenvironment to turn the spermatogenesis process on. We demonstrated that AOS-benefited gut microbiota could be applied to treat infertile males with obesity and metabolic issues induced by HFD.

In order to investigate the feasibility of ionic liquid-surfactant compound solutions for coal dust suppression, three ionic liquids and sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate (AOS) were selected to be compounded respectively. The compound solutions were optimized by surface tension tests and coal dust settling experiments, and FTIR and SEM tests were carried out on coal samples treated with the optimum wetting agent. The results show that when the concentration is 0.3 wt%, and the ratio of [Bmim][Cl]/AOS is 4:6, the wetting rate of compound solution is the maximum. The content of hydrophilic functional groups OH...O and C-O in the coal samples increases significantly, and the degree of benzene ring substitutions is elevated; while hydrophobic functional groups –CH, aromatic ring C = C, and benzene ring 3 substitutions (3H) are destroyed by dissolution. The micromorphology of the coal surface changes with the appearance of many cracks and pores and an increase in surface roughness. [Bmim]+ can adsorb on the drain absorption points on the coal surface by electrostatic effect, turning them into water absorption sites and attracting the surrounding AOS molecules to arrange the composite adsorption layer more closely. These results can contribute to the development of novel wetting agents with specific structures and provide theoretical guidance for the reduction of coal dust concentrations. Liver diseases are associated with many factors, including medicines and alcoholics, which have become a global problem. It is crucial to overcome this problem. Liver diseases always come with inflammatory complications, which might be a potential target to deal with this issue. Alginate oligosaccharides (AOS) have been demonstrated to have many beneficial effects, especially anti-inflammation. In this study, 40 mg/kg body weight (BW) of busulfan was intraperitoneally injected once, and then the mice were dosed with ddH2O or AOS 10 mg/kg BW every day by oral gavage for five weeks. We investigated AOS as a potential no-side-effect and low-cost therapy for liver diseases. For the first time, we discovered that AOS 10 mg/kg recovered liver injury by decreasing the inflammation-related factors. Moreover, AOS 10 mg/kg could improve the blood metabolites related to immune and anti-tumor effects, and thus, ameliorated impaired liver function. The results indicate that AOS may be a potential therapy to deal with liver damage, especially in inflammatory conditions.

The leakage of hazardous chemicals and toxic volatile substances in the atmosphere may cause serious consequences such as explosion and poisoning. To identify the unknown leakage locations and gas compositions, a mobile robot system to trace the leak source in the outdoor was investigated. First, two bionic searching algorithms, Zigzag and Silkworm algorithms, were tested with outdoor experiments for locating the leak source. The results showed that the locating errors of these two algorithms were within 0.5 m in 10 by 20 m search space, but the failing ratio of Zigzag and Silkworm algorithm was still high (about 40–50%). Therefore, an improved tracing algorithm combining the Silkworm and Zigzag algorithm, called as zigzag–Silkworm algorithm, was proposed. Compared with Silkworm and Zigzag algorithms, zigzag–Silkworm algorithm had a higher success ratio of 80% in outdoor source tracing tests, and the searching efficiency was enhanced, the efficiency parameter L: L0 has improved from 2.58 for Silkworm and 2.66 for Zigzag to 2.17 for zigzag–Silkworm. Then, in order to identify the composition of the leaked gases during the source tracing, an artificial olfaction system (AOS) based on the gas sensor array and support vector machine was set on the mobile robot. The test results in the source tracing experiments with ammonia and ethanol emissions indicated that the recognition accuracy of emission gases reached to 99% with AOS equipped on the robot. Therefore, the mobile robot system equipped with the zigzag–Silkworm algorithm and the AOS is feasible to trace the leakage source and identify the emission composition in the outdoor leakage event with good performance in efficiency and accuracy although some underlying problems still need to be addressed in future work. In a model experiment, some adaptive characteristics, the bioaccumulation of toxic elements from technogenically-contaminated soils with polyelement anomalies, and rhizosphere microflora of Japanese millet, Echinochloa frumentacea, were studied using biochemical, microbiological, physicochemical (AAS, ICP-MS, INAA), and metagenomic (16S rRNA) methods of analysis. Good adaptive characteristics (the content of photosynthetic pigments, low molecular weight antioxidants) of E. frumentacea grown on the soils of metallurgical enterprises were revealed. The toxic effect of soils with strong polyelement anomalies (multiple excesses of MPC for Cr, Ni, Zn, As, petroleum products) on biometric parameters and adaptive characteristics of Japanese millet were shown. The rhizosphere populations of E. frumentacea grown in the background soil were characterized by the lowest taxonomic diversity compared to the rhizobiomes of plants grown in contaminated urban soils. The minimal number of all groups of microorganisms studied was noted in the soils, which contain the highest concentrations of both inorganic (heavy metals) and organic (oil products) pollutants. The taxonomic structure of the rhizospheric microbiomes of E. frumentacea was characterized. It has been established that E. frumentacea accumulated Mn, Co, As, and Cd from soils with polyelement pollution within the average values. V was accumulated mainly in the root system (transfer factor from roots to shoots 0.01–0.05) and its absorption mechanism is rhizofiltration. The removal of Zn by shoots of E. frumentacea increased on soils where the content of the element exceeded the MPC and was 100–454 mg/kg of dry weight (168–508 g/ha). Analysis of the obtained data makes it possible to recommend E. frumentacea for phytoremediation of soil from Cu and Zn at a low level of soil polyelement contamination using grass mixtures. Variational models involving Euler's elastica energy have been widely used in many fields of digital image processing, such as image inpainting and additive Gaussian noise removal. In this paper, according to the signal dependence of multiplicative noise, the Euler's elastica functional is modified to adapt for the multiplicative denoising problem. And a novel multiplicative noise removal model based on adaptive Euler's elastica is proposed. Furthermore, we develope two fast numerical algorithms to solve this high-order nonlinear model: Aiming at the evolution case of Euler–Lagrange equation, a semi-implicit iterative scheme is designed and the additive operator splitting algorithm is used to speed up the calculation; Expanding the augmented Lagrangian algorithm that has been successfully applied in recent years, we obtain a restricted proximal augmented Lagrangian method. Numerical experiments show the effectiveness of the two algorithms and the significant advantages of our model over the standard total variation denoising model in alleviating the staircase effect and restoring the tiny geometrical structures, especially, the line-like feature. Synbiotics are related to pre and probiotic mixture which work synergically and provide the intestine microbial balance in organisms. This study aims to evaluate the potency of alginate polysaccharide and oligosaccharide (AOS) as prebiotic to probiotic bacteria originally from a commercial yogurt. Probiotic bacteria were plated to MRSA and incubated in 24 hrs. Over five isolated bacteria, three probiotic isolate bacteria were defined positively(C11; C14 and C15). The prebiotic test was done by culturing the isolate C14 to MRSB and incubated 24 hrs. After 24 hrs, all the MRSB liquid culture became turbid, showed a positive effect, except the MRSB culture without any alginate enrichment. Probiotic bacteria from MRSB were then plated into MRSA for Total Plate Count (TPC) test and incubated. TPS revealed that 0.1 mg/mL enriched AOS media resulted the highest number of probiotic bacteria (1.193 x 105 CFU/mL) compared to enriched AOS and 0.05 mg AOS/mL media (6 x 103 CFU/mL). These results have proven a high ability to develop AOS as prebiotic.

Objective: Immediately following a two-year prospective case series in which the wounds of 60 patients with hard-to-heal ulcers were treated with a hypochlorous acid oxidising solution (AOS) in addition to standard of care (SoC) for 70 days (T0–T70), a subset of 31 patients (51.7%) whose wounds had not fully healed by T70 opted to continue with treatment for a further 22 weeks (days T70–T224, a total treatment time of 32 weeks (224 days). The objective was to provide long-term evidence on the clinical performance and safety of AOS when used in association with the usual SoC in patients with stalled, hard-to-heal ulcers of various aetiologies. Method: As per the main study, wounds were formally assessed by the study lead at 28 days (±14 days, depending on patient attendance). Parameters assessed at fortnightly visits included area, depth and duration of ulcer; pain; wound bed preparation (WBP) score; and infection status. Wounds were managed in accordance with the SoC protocol. Results: By T224, 35.5% (n=11) of wounds healed completely and 83.9% showed some types of improvement. All wounds were free of infection and colonisation, the WBP score improved (100% A1–A2 at T196), and pain scores fell. Use of AOS in combination with several types of dressing (SoC) for such a long period confirmed a good safety profile. Conclusion: This follow-up evaluation, coupled with the primary study, suggests that AOS might represent a valuable therapeutic addition for the management of hard-to-heal ulcers for long periods of treatment. Objective: This prospective case series aims to evaluate the clinical impact of a hypochlorous acid oxidising solution (AOS) in association with usual standard of care (SoC) on wound bed preparation (WBP) in patients with hard-to-heal ulcers of various aetiologies. The AOS (Nexodyn, APR Applied Pharma Research S.A., Switzerland) comprises three main features: highly pure and stabilised hypochlorous acid, acidic pH and high reduction–oxidation potential. Method: Between February 2015 and February 2017, patients who met the inclusion criteria were treated with AOS and usual SoC. Data collection ran for 70 days: T0–T70. A baseline assessment was undertaken at T0; parameters assessed at fortnightly visits included: WBP score, area and depth of ulcer, duration, pain, Bates–Jensen score and infection status. Results: A total of 60 patients took part in the study. By T70, 68.3% of wounds had healed or improved and a significant wound size reduction of 21% was observed (p<0.001), despite a mean wound duration of 20.6 months. All wounds were free of local infection and cellulitis; 10% were colonised. WBP scores improved, while Bates–Jensen and pain scores fell significantly over time. Conclusion: This evaluation suggests that AOS might represent a valuable therapeutic addition for an optimal WBP in the routine management of hard-to-heal ulcers of different aetiologies. Objective: The efficacy of available wound dressings in the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds is limited. A new therapeutic approach using an acid-oxidising solution (AOS) was developed. Its effect on healing progress, tolerability and safety properties were investigated in a clinical study, and compared with standard of care (SOC) wound dressings. The study aimed to demonstrate the non-inferiority of AOS to SOC in terms of wound healing progress. Method: This open-label, randomised controlled trial was conducted at two study centres in Austria with patients with either infected or non-infected hard-to-heal leg ulcers of different aetiology. Patients were treated for six weeks either with AOS or SOC wound dressings. Outcome assessments included the percentage of granulation and re-epithelialisation tissue, wound size reduction, changes in wound pH, infection control and wound pain, local tolerability and adverse events (AEs). Healing time and rate were also assessed. Results: A total of 50 patients took part. In the AOS group, wounds exhibited higher amounts of granulation and re-epithelialisation tissue, and a faster and more pronounced wound size reduction compared with wounds in the SOC group. In the AOS-treated versus SOC-treated patients, a greater percentage of complete healing of hard-to-heal ulcers was achieved by the end of the study period (32% versus 8%, respectively). Furthermore, the wound pH decreased significantly faster in these wounds (p<0.0001). In all patients with infected leg ulcers, local infection was overcome more rapidly under AOS treatment. In the AOS group, one AE and no serious adverse events (SAEs) were detected versus 24 AEs and two SAEs in the SOC group. Conclusion: In this study, AOS proved to be a highly effective treatment to support wound healing in infected or non-infected hard-to-heal leg ulcers of different aetiology. The COVID-19 outbreak caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus turned into a pandemic and from the first reported cases in December 2019-December 31, 2020, more than 82 million positive cases have been reported with a cumulative fatality of 1,806,155 people due to the complication of a mild upper respiratory infection to a severe lower respiratory disease, such as acute respiratory distress syndrome, and death from multiple organ failure. Comorbidities such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) that have a high prevalence in older adults with obesity, should be considered as an additional risk factor for fatality, due to endothelial dysfunction secondary to hypoxia coupled with an increase in the inflammatory cascade with dysfunction of the glymphatic system during sleep in response to SARS-CoV-2. The COVID-19 outbreak caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus became a pandemic, and since the first cases reported in December 2019 to 28 October 2020, more than 44 million positive cases have been recorded with an accumulated fatality of 1,172,086 people due to the complication of mild infection of the upper airway to a severe disease of the lower airway, such as the acute respiratory distress syndrome, and death from multiple organ failure. Comorbidities such as age over 40 years, obesity, and diabetes mellitus play an important role in the response inflammatory and immunological that can accelerate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines causing endothelial dysfunction that produces endotheliitis, hypercoagulability, and fibrinolysis not only at lung level but also in other organs such as the heart and central nervous system. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), which has a high prevalence in older adults with obesity, is a risk factor for endothelial dysfunction due to hypoxia that may favor hyper inflammation in response to SARS-CoV-2 and therefore OSA should be considered serious comorbidity for COVID-19 fatality. Purpose: There is persistent uncertainty about whether sound error consistency is a valid criterion for differentiating between apraxia of speech (AOS) and aphasia with phonemic paraphasia. The purpose of this study was to determine whether speakers with a profile of aphasia and AOS differ in error consistency from speakers with aphasia who do not have AOS. By accounting for differences in overall severity and using a sample size well over three times that of the largest study on the topic to date, our ambition was to resolve the existing controversy. Method: We analyzed speech samples from 171 speakers with aphasia and completed error consistency analysis for 137 of them. The experimental task was to repeat four multisyllabic words five times successively. Phonetic transcriptions were coded for four consistency indices (two at the sound-level and two at the word-level). We then used quantitative metrics to assign participants to four diagnostic groups (one aphasia plus AOS group, one aphasia only group, and two groups with intermediate speech profiles). Potential consistency differences were examined with ANCOVA, with error frequency as a continuous covariate. Results: Error frequency was a strong predictor for three of the four consistency metrics. The magnitude of consistency for participants with AOS was either similar or lower compared to that of participants with aphasia only. Despite excellent transcription reliability and moderate to excellent coding reliability, three of the four consistency indices showed limited measurement reliability. Discussion: People with AOS and people with aphasia often produce inconsistent variants of errors when they are asked to repeat challenging words several times sequentially. The finding that error consistency is similar or lower in aphasia with AOS than in aphasia without AOS is incompatible with recommendations that high error consistency be used as a diagnostic criterion for AOS. At the same time, group differences in the opposite direction are not sufficiently systematic to warrant use for differential diagnosis between aphasia with AOS and aphasia with phonemic paraphasia. Background: Salt stress is a multicomponent phenomenon; it includes many processes that directly or indirectly affect the plant. Attempts have been made to comprehensively consider the processes of salt stress in plants Triticum aestivum (variety Orenburgskaya 22) and Triticum durum (variety Zolotaya)., Methods: The study used methods of light and fluorescence microscopy, methods of immunofluorodetection, expression of DNA methyltransferase genes, genes of the ion transporter and superoxide dismutase families, as well as biochemical determination of total antioxidant activity using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reagent., Results: According to morphometric indicators, the Orenburgskaya 22 variety showed greater tolerance to the action of 150 mM NaCl than the Zolotaya variety. The level of expression of genes of the HKT ion transporter family in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety is higher than in the Zolotaya variety. It was found that the expression of the DNA methyltransferase gene DRM2.1 , which post-translationally methylates cytosine residues, is 22.3 times higher in Zolotaya compared to Orenburg 22 when exposed to salt. The accumulation of toxic ions is accompanied by an increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increased damage to root tissue, especially in the Zolotaya variety. Using fluorescence microscopy using the Carboxy-H2DFF marker in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety at high NaCl concentrations, the highest fluorescence intensity was determined in the cap zone; in the Zolotaya variety-in the zones of the cap and root meristem. Excess ROS is more successfully removed in the Orenburgskaya 22 variety, which has a higher level of antioxidant activity (AOA), as well as the level of expression of the Cu/ZnSOD and MnSOD superoxide dismutase genes. Using programmed cell death (PCD) markers based on the release of cytochrome c from mitochondria into the cytoplasm, DNA breakage and the release of phosphatidylserine from mitochondria, the degree of damage to root cells was assessed in both wheat varieties. It has been proven that wheat cell death occurs through the mitochondrial pathway. It was noted that the salt-sensitive variety Zolotaya had a significant number of necrotic cells., Conclusion: Based on the data obtained, it was concluded that the Orenburgskaya 22 variety exhibits greater resistance to salinity than the Zolotaya variety. Summary: Allene oxide synthase (AOS) and hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) are two important members of P450 enzymes metabolizing hydroperoxy fatty acid to produce jasmonates and aldehydes respectively, which function in response to diverse environmental and developmental stimuli. However, their exact roles in soybean have not been clarified. In present study, we identified a lesion‐mimic mutant in soybean named NT302, which exhibits etiolated phenotype together with chlorotic and spontaneous lesions on leaves at R3 podding stage. The underlying gene was identified as GmHPL encoding hydroperoxide lyase by map‐based cloning strategy. Sequence analysis demonstrated that a single nucleotide mutation created a premature termination codon (Gln20‐Ter), which resulted in a truncated GmHPL protein in NT302. GmHPL RNA was significantly reduced in NT302 mutant, while genes in AOS branch of the 13‐LOX pathway were up‐regulated in NT302. The mutant exhibited higher susceptibility to bacterial leaf pustule (BLP) disease, but increased resistance against common cutworm (CCW) pest. GmHPL was significantly induced in response to MeJA, wounding, and CCW in wild type soybean. Virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) of GhHPL genes gave rise to similar lesion‐mimic leaf phenotypes in upland cotton, coupled with upregulation of the expression of JA biosynthesis and JA‐induced genes. Our study provides evidence that competition exist between HPL and AOS branches in 13‐LOX pathway of the oxylipin metabolism in soybean, thereby plays essential roles in modulation of plant development and defense. Significance Statement: Dysfunction of HPL genes in soybean NT302 mutant leading to spontaneous lesions on leaves, with reduced resistance to the bacterial leaf pustule and enhanced resistance to common cutworm. Alginate oligosaccharide (AOS) was reported to possess antioxidant and free radical scavenging activities, but the specific effects and mechanisms remain unclear. We investigated the effects of AOS on H2O2-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and the associated mechanisms. HUVECs were treated with 100–800 µM hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for various periods (12, 24, and 36 h) to establish an in vitro oxidative stress and apoptosis HUVEC model. AOS protects HUVEC cells against oxidative stress-induced apoptosis by decreasing the expression levels of caspase 3 and Bax, and increasing Bcl-2 expression. Microarray assay, real-time PCR and western blot results revealed that AOS was able to effectively suppress H2O2-induced apoptosis via regulated integrin-α/FAK/PI3K pathway by influencing the expression of integrin-α, FAK, PI3K, PTEN, P21, and CDK2. In conclusion, our study suggests that AOS can protect endothelial cells against oxidative stress injury caused by H2O2, providing novel alternative strategies to prevent atherosclerosis in the future. The foam plays an important role in EOR application, while crude oil properties significantly affect foam behavior. In this study we compare the performance of foam generated by two types of surfactant, which in the presence of two light oils. The foaming properties and foam stability, film thickness and emulsified oil effect were fully studied. The final results show that light oil has a positive impact on foam ability of sodium alpha-olefin sulfonate (AOS). However, the alkyl glycosides (APG) did not have the same effect. As the oil saturation increases from 0 to 80%, the light oil has a significant impact on foam stability of APG than AOS. Furthermore, the half-life change degree k is introduced to characterize the change of bulk foam half-life and foam drainage half-life. According to the calculation results, the positive effect of light oil on AOS was reconfirmed. The AOS is more effective in reducing the coalescence of foam and increasing the foam uniformity compared with APG. Moreover, the formation of emulsion has a positive effect on the foam stability. According to the micrograph of foam, the light oil in AOS is emulsified into quite small oil droplets, filling the plateau borders and lamellas.
