Purpose: The high-pressure nature of the construction industry, along with the COVID-19 pandemic, triggered abusive supervision (i.e. workplace bullying and incivility behaviour) that has diminished workers' well-being. However, despite the growing prevalence in practice and increasing concern in academia, abusive supervision remains largely unexplored by construction management scholars. This study aims to fill the gap in the current literature by analysing the effects of abusive supervision on construction workers' well-being, the mediating role of guanxi closeness and the moderating role of trust in the manager. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire survey was completed by 258 Chinese construction workers. The data underwent mediation and moderation analyses using PROCESS macro 3.5 for SPSS. Findings: The results revealed that managers' abusive supervision reduced construction workers' well-being at work and in life. Guanxi closeness between manager and workers mediated the relationship between managers' abusive supervision and construction workers' well-being. Additionally, trust in managers moderated the mediating effect of guanxi closeness. This study further revealed that the emotional connection between construction managers and workers, such as expressive guanxi closeness and affective-based trust, is important in handling the impact of abusive supervision on the workers. Practical implications: The findings of this study provide support for recent calls to address negative manager behaviours such as abusive supervision in construction management. They aid the development of a more comprehensive internal mechanism that considers the influence of guanxi closeness on the outcomes of abusive supervision by managers at construction sites. Additionally, interventions that develop trust in managers may be particularly effective in alleviating the tension of abusive supervision. More attention should be paid to managers' emotional connections in daily construction project management. Originality/value: Rather than concentrate on positive leadership, this study shifts the focus to negative leadership in construction project management by identifying abusive supervision as a negative primary antecedent of workers' well-being. While prior research has highlighted how negative manager behaviours affect workers' well-being from the conservation of resources theory (COR) perspective, this study is the first, to the authors' knowledge, to adopt a social exchange theory perspective by introducing guanxi closeness as a mediator. Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a global public health crisis, with physical violence leaving IPV survivors at high risk of brain injury (BI). Both BI and IPV have significant physical, psychological, cognitive, and social impacts, including a high risk of mental health concerns, yet there is limited exploration of IPV survivors' experiences with BI and mental health. This study aimed to explore the BI- and mental health-related needs and experiences of IPV survivors from the perspectives of survivors and service providers with the objective of developing knowledge translation materials to raise awareness and support survivors and service providers in addressing these concerns. Methods: This qualitative interpretive description study involved 19 semi-structured interviews and two focus group discussions (2–3 participants each) with 24 participants including IPV survivors experiencing BI and mental health concerns as well as IPV, mental health, and BI service providers between October 2020 and February 2021. Three screening questions were used to identify probable BI among survivors. Participants across groups were an average of 48.5±12.7 years old and were predominantly cisgender women (96%), of European origin (75%), with a university degree (71%). Interviews were recorded, transcribed, and thematically analyzed. Findings: Across interviews, participants spoke about IPV, BI, and mental health as being complex and interrelated experiences that have impacts across the survivor's life and extend well beyond the abusive relationship. Because of the underrecognized nature of BI in IPV, finding and accessing care requires persistence that survivors spoke of as being like "a full-time job." The benefit of making meaningful connections, particularly with other survivors, was highlighted. Conclusions: Recognition of BI as a contributing factor shaping the lived experience of IPV survivors; acknowledgement that the impacts of IPV, BI, and mental health are far reaching and long lasting; and reducing barriers to finding and accessing appropriate care are critical to better supporting IPV survivors with BI and mental health concerns. Clinicians should consider BI and its lingering impacts among the IPV survivors with whom they work. Drawing on conservation of resources theory, the purpose of this study was to further our understanding of the relationship between abusive supervision and burnout by examining two variables that likely exacerbate this relationship. Susceptibility to stress (i.e. subordinate's neuroticism) and exposure to a stressor (i.e. time spent with the abusive supervisor) were hypothesized to magnify the positive relationship between abusive supervision and burnout. Data collected from two samples confirmed the positive relationship between abusive supervision and burnout. However, this relationship appears to be unaffected by the employee's neuroticism nor time spent with their supervisor. Implications, limitations, and future directions are discussed. This study investigated women's court experiences, mental health, and willingness to engage the system in the future for intimate partner violence (IPV), with a primary focus on the role of prior abusive relationships. Among 298 women whose partners were arrested for IPV, chi-square analyses found that women who had (vs. did not have) a prior abusive relationship were less likely to have contact with a court-based victim advocate, but there were no differences in the criminal order of protection level of restriction they requested. Regression analyses indicated that women with (vs. without) prior abusive relationships reported greater depression symptoms and perceived stress, and less willingness to engage the system in the future. No differences emerged in PTSD symptoms. This study provides insight into the experiences women have in the court system following their partner's arrest for IPV, considers their past abusive experiences, and has implications for women's safety and well-being. The current study examined the moderating effects of subordinate–supervisor similarities on abusive supervision and employee silence relationships. We addressed the question of whether employees' silence reactions are alleviated or aggravated when the abuse comes from a supervisor who shares a similar gender and other sociodemographic attributes with the employee. The results indicated that abusive supervision led to more silence behavior and supported the moderating effect of perceived sociodemographic similarity on this relationship. However, regardless of gender similarities with their supervisors, the findings postulated that employees experiencing abusive supervision were more likely to remain silent at work. When there is a perceived sociodemographic similarity between the employee and the supervisor, abusive supervision has been found to have a harsher influence on employee's silence behavior. These findings help us better understand the antecedents of employee silence behavior and provide important implications for subordinate–supervisor similarity dynamics in exposure to abusive supervision. Domestic violence and abuse (DVA) is under-reported, under-prosecuted and under-convicted. The apparent ineffectiveness of policy approaches in reducing the incidence of DVA, or mitigating its social and economic costs, forms the backcloth of my enquiry. I explore the processes by which heterosexual women enter, endure, and leave abusive relationships. Using narrative-style interviews, I worked with 14 women with a wide range of characteristics in terms of age, ethnicity, physicality, and socio-economic status. I examine the space between normalised heterosexual relationships and abuse. I shine a spotlight on the full range of perpetrators' behaviours that entrap and oppress their female partners, and identify four key domains in which the coercive tactics of the abuser work to: Ensnare his victim; dismantle her previous identities; prevent her from leaving the relationship; and punish her for leaving. From a feminist poststructuralist perspective, participants' experiences of entering, enduring and exiting abusive relationships can be read as part of the wider cultural scaffolding (Gavey, 2019) of heteropatriarchy, which left them exposed to ensnarement and exploitation. Using dark triad (Paulhus, 2014) as a model for conceptualising perpetrators' manipulation of their ex-partners, their children, and professionals, I offer an alternative to traditional psychology's way of understanding men's abuse of their female partners. Introduction: Currently the use of prohibited performance-enhancing substances (PES) in fitness and gym settings is a public health concern as adverse health consequences are emerging. Understanding the characteristics of gymgoers who do not use these substances could lead to an important complement to the ongoing research about risk factors for PES use. The aim of this study was to identify the profile of PES non-use in gym-goers. Methods: In total, 453 gym-goers (mean age = 35.64 years; SD = 13.08 - measure of central tendency location and measure of absolute dispersion, respectively) completed an online survey assessing sociodemographic factors, exercise characteristics, gym modalities, peers, social influence, attitudes, subjective norms, beliefs, intentions, and self-reported use of PES. Results: Decision Trees showed that being a woman, training less frequently, not practicing bodybuilding and having a negative intention to consume PES were identified as characteristics of non-users of PES. Discussion: These results may support evidence-based anti-doping interventions to prevent abusive use of PES in the fitness context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While considerable attention has been devoted to positive leadership patterns in the realm of project management, the dark side of leadership has rarely been studied within project teams. To address this gap, we focus on abusive supervision in project teams and develop a team-level moderated mediation model to examine whether, how, and when abusive supervision influences project outcomes by drawing from the Proactive Motivation Theory. Survey data were collected from 132 project teams containing 132 project managers and 392 project members using a multi-source time-lagged survey design. Our findings reveal significant negative relationships between abusive supervision and both project performance and project team creativity. Furthermore, we found that a team's proactive behavior plays a mediating role in these relationships. More importantly, our study identifies that team building mitigates the direct negative impact of abusive supervision on proactive behavior and the indirect effects of abusive supervision on project performance and project team creativity. Intimate partner violence (IPV) has enduring intergenerational impacts. We identified the factors associated with IPV victimization and perpetration, as well as its relationship to parental IPV, using national data from the Philippines. We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of the 2022 Philippine Demographic and Health Survey data, focusing on 8,882 women aged 15 to 49 years. We utilized Poisson regression analysis with robust variance. The unadjusted results identified the factors associated with IPV victimization and perpetration. While the adjusted results highlighted the association between parental IPV and IPV victimization and perpetration. We found that IPV victimization was significantly influenced by the number of children, marital status, lower education level, residence in rural areas, and parental IPV, while IPV perpetration was significantly influenced by employment status, number of children, marital status, and parental IPV. After adjusting for confounders, we observed a significant increase in the risk of partner victimization and perpetration by 108% and 133%, respectively, due to parental IPV. Among Filipino women, witnessing parental IPV during childhood was associated with a doubling of the risk for subsequent experiences of both IPV victimization and perpetration in adulthood, regardless of socio-demographic factors. Online sexual grooming (a manipulative process in which the perpetrator locates a young person and creates an abusive relationship with the child that involves sexual exploitation) poses significant challenges to parents. This study examined how parents of adolescent victims of online sexual grooming experienced guiding their children through the event. This qualitative study, conducted in Israel, was based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with 15 parents who guided their adolescents who had been subjected to online sexual grooming. Results indicate that the parents reported a spectrum of emotions, from insecurity and guilt to a sense of control and satisfaction in managing the situation. Also, the reluctance of some parents to engage with the education system indicates potential trust issues. The study demonstrates the urgent need for targeted interventions to equip parents and educational professionals with the necessary knowledge for prevention and effective response to online sexual grooming. Purpose: Cyberloafing is an organization-directed counterproductive work behavior (CWB). One stream of literature deems cyberloafing to be bad for organizations and their employees, while another suggests cyberloafing is a coping response to stressful work events. Our work contributes to the latter stream of literature. The key objective of our study is to examine whether cyberloafing could be a means to cope with a stressful work event-abusive supervision, and if yes, what mediating and boundary conditions are involved. For this investigation, the authors leveraged the Stressor-Emotion-CWB theory which posits that individuals engage in CWB to cope with the negative affect generated by the stressors and that this relationship is moderated at the first stage by personality traits. Design/methodology/approach: Using a multi-wave survey design, the authors collected data from 357 employees working in an Indian IT firm. Results revealed support for three out of the four hypotheses. Findings: Based on the Stressor-Emotion-CWB theory, the authors found that work-related negative affect fully mediated the positive relationship between abusive supervision and cyberloafing, and work locus of control (WLOC) moderated the positive relationship between abusive supervision and work-related negative affect. The authors did not find any evidence of a direct relationship between abusive supervision and cyberloafing. Also, the positive indirect relationship between abusive supervision and cyberloafing through work-related negative affect was moderated at the first stage by the WLOC such that the indirect effect was stronger (weaker) at high (low) levels of WLOC. We adopt a culture-relevant identity approach to understanding the effects of abusive leadership and power distance culture on group members' identity and their creative process engagement. We argue that organizational culture should be considered in explanations of how abusive supervision may influence persons' identity-making, which in turn can affect their creative process engagement. We then collect data from a large Chinese company operating in both Hong Kong and mainland China and obtain several interesting results. Firstly, abusive supervision has a negative effect on the organisational identity of subordinates. Secondly, organisational identity mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and the creative process engagement of subordinates. Finally, power distance moderates the relationship between abusive supervision and organisational identity, as well as the relationship between abusive supervision and creative process engagement among subordinates via organisational identity, such that the relationship is more pronounced when organization culture of power distance is low rather than high. Drawing on conservation of resources theory, the study aimed to investigate the relationship between work–family conflict (time-based, strain-based and behavior-based) and project manager abusive supervision in the presence of mediating mechanism and boundary condition. Time-lagged data were collected from 235 respondents working on construction projects to examine the proposed relationships by utilizing regression analysis. Findings indicated that the dimensions of work–family conflict had a positive significant relationship with abusive supervision and negative relationship with project commitment. Additionally, project commitment mediated the relationships and psychological resilience were found to alleviate the negative influence of work–family conflict on project commitment. Surprisingly, the results delineated that strain-based work–family conflict have more pronounced influence in instigating abusive supervision. This expository and analytical study evaluates the motion to Pierce the Corporate Veil provided for in article 50 of the Civil Code and its enforcement in the so-called abusive tax planning, investigating the possibility of holding the nonmanaging partner of the legal entity liable since the Civil Code does not require the condition of management, but only the performance of an act that causes a direct or indirect benefit to the partner. Through an analysis of primary sources of the Law and a doctrinal survey, using inductive reasoning, the outlined premises lead to the conclusion that abusive tax planning is a hypothesis of purpose deviation, in which, for the motion to pierce the corporate veil to take place, the intention to harm creditors is presented as a subjective element, the absence of which necessarily prevents the nonmanaging partner from being held liable. This study aimed to verify the relationship between intimate partner characteristics and the prevalence of psychological, physical, and sexual violence against women. It is a descriptive study conducted in a regular-risk maternity hospital in Vitória, state of Espírito Santo, Brazil. Partner characteristics were collected through a semistructured questionnaire, and violence was measured by the World Health Organization - Violence Against Woman instrument. Intimate partner characteristics were associated with violence, such as not being the father of the newborn, young adults, having alcoholic and smoking habits, using illicit drugs, and being jealous and controlling. Thus, identifying the intimate partner profile during gynecological and prenatal consultations constitutes an important tool for screening possible risk factors for violence against women. Although coping with an abusive boss can be psychologically demanding, those who suffer from leader abuse often stay in these unpleasant relationships, actively managing the way they are viewed in the eyes of their abusive leader (source of the abuse) and coworkers (observers of the abuse). Accordingly, the abusive supervision literature has relied almost exclusively on an emotional appraisal perspective to study the self-image implications following leader abuse. The present study seeks to add to this emerging line of scholarly conversations by presenting a novel theoretical alternative. Specifically, we integrate self-presentation and self-concept orientation perspectives to portray individuals' identity-driven self-image maintenance following leader abuse. We argue that only those with a stronger relational self-concept are likely to be motivated to preserve their identity-consistent self-image and present themselves in positive and socially desirable ways toward both their coworkers and leader, following leader abuse. Using survey data collected from working professionals in China across two field studies, we found support for our hypotheses that when employees with a stronger relational self-concept experienced abusive supervision, they were motivated to help their coworkers as a result of their relational reputation maintenance concerns, and to use ingratiation tactics toward their leader due to their image preservation motives. Workplace bullying adds significantly to toxicity in workplaces. The present phenomenological study aims to unravel the experiences of primary school teachers who have faced bullying at work. Such studies in India are still sparse, and in-depth qualitative examination of the target's experiences provides deeper insight into their view regarding anomalous behaviours and bullies. Semistructured interviews of seven teachers were conducted and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. The analysis resulted in three themes: "Workplace dynamics," "I can tell what their problem is," and "Coping with the problem." The identified acts were linked to the extant model (Duluth model) describing the power control wheel at work. The researchers interpreted the bullied teachers' lived experiences to construe the affected teachers' behavioural, perceptual, and emotional responses. The findings reaffirm the existence of bullies in a teaching environment. Teachers with longer years of service acted as bullies in all the cases, and two participants just discussed Principal-on-teacher bullying. The study discusses how identified bullying acts can be categorized into themes of the power-control wheel at work. Studies on bullying in cultures with high power distance are limited and provide limited evidence on how the bullying behaviours are comparable to the acts constituting other abusive relationships. Purpose: This study aims to understand how abusive supervision influences employees' unethical pro-organizational behavior (UPB). In particular, the mediating effect of moral disengagement and moderating role of traditionality on this relationship were examined. Design/methodology/approach: This study conducted a two-wave questionnaire survey using data collected from 629 employees from different companies in China. Moderated mediation analysis was conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings: The results show that moral disengagement mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and employees' UPB. Employee traditionality enhances the relationship between abusive supervision and moral disengagement as well as the indirect effect of abusive supervision on employees' UPB via moral disengagement. Originality/value: First, by exploring the positive impact of abusive supervision on UPB, the authors enhance the current understanding of the role of negative leadership in the development of UPB and enrich the research on the antecedents of UPB and outcomes of abusive supervision. Second, based on social cognitive theory, this study enriches the literature on abusive supervision and employee UPB by identifying moral disengagement as a mediator. Third, to the best of the authors' knowledge, the authors are among the first to incorporate traditionality to tell a Chinese story about how traditional employees respond to the effects of abusive supervision on UPB, providing a new lens for the cultural boundary condition in the occurrence mechanism of UPB. In this article, I draw on the work of radical feminist legal scholars, who have argued for using the terminology of torture in international law as a means to take intimate partner violence (IPV) seriously and to recognize the harm of normalized violence. I explore lived experiences of IPV based on my feminist activist research, which has included co-moderating online support groups and conducting follow-up interviews with women who have been subjected to coercive control. I examine in detail the similarities between torture and IPV in terms of the purposiveness, severity, and effects of violence, and show how these were concretized in the lives of research participants. This research took place in Finland, which has been referred to as the "Nordic paradox," as IPV is both common and normalized within Finnish culture and society and the harm of private violence is generally dismissed. I conclude that drawing these parallels could serve as a means to raise awareness of the stakes of abusive relationships and validate targets' experiences of abuse. Moreover, focusing research on experiences of violence in a Nordic country can expand our understanding of gender-based violence in the context of feminist international relations. As a former Rape Crisis and Women's Aid support worker turned feminist academic, I have had the privilege of working with some of the most inspirational and courageous women in Scotland. I see these women as the unsung heroines who are ultimately responsible for changing Scotland and making it internationally renowned for innovative and progressive practice in preventing Gender-Based Violence. For decades, women have worked as volunteers and/or paid staff to support survivors, run refuges, helplines, and campaigns whilst also training local authorities, police, and other agencies. Without them, we would have no women's support organisations, many more victims would remain in relationships with abusive men, and many more women would be dead at the hands of their partners or ex-partners. Yet, the organisations they run are desperately under-funded and many workers are on insecure contracts with low pay – a form of structural violence that reinforces gender inequality in Scotland. Equally important and unrecognised are the victim/survivors who have raised their voices to ask for help, to resist their abusers, and who risk everything to try to secure their survival. Without them we wouldn't know about the horrors many endure, and many others would not have been inspired to work tirelessly to change Scotland for the better. Collectively and individually, their achievements are significant. This article explores their resistance and resilience that has allowed Scotland to earn its stellar reputation. Research in intimate partner violence (IPV) has established that economic abuse, including economic exploitation, is an important form of IPV that is often used to trap victims in an abusive relationship. Though victims of all types of IPV encounter particular barriers to accessing justice, there are particular issues for those victimized by economic exploitation. This article explains the prevalence and consequences of economic exploitation and explores the indicators that victims lack access to justice. It proposes the primary obstacles victims of economic exploitation encounter and urges specific actions to assist lawyers, judges, and legislators in recognizing economic exploitation in intimate partner relationships and promoting appropriate remedies. The study focuses on the conflictual, abusive relationships between spouses in the second half of the long nineteenth century in Bohemia. We will trace the ways in which constructions of masculinity and femininity in the past have influenced the possibilities for perpetrating violence and how offenders have defended their behaviour. The children were also part of the conflicts and sometimes displayed problematic behaviour. In addition to the judicial apparatus, marital disputes also involved town parish priests, and families, possible witnesses in cases of marital divorce. Introduction: This paper examines the relationship between gender-based violence (GBV) and religion in a range of forced displacement contexts. While it has been acknowledged that religion frequently shapes experiences of GBV survivors, little is known about the influences of religion on GBV experiences in forced displacement and its potential role in strengthening interventions. Methods: Utilizing empirical evidence from 58 interviews from the SEREDA project with forced migrants in Sweden, UK, Turkey and Australia, we outline the interactions between religious resources and GBV in migrants' forced displacement experiences. We conceptualise religious resources as comprising religious ideas, religious practices, religious experience and religious organization. Results: Survivors talked about religion spontaneously when responding to questions relating to resilience, coping mechanisms, and risk factors. Religion acted as both a "protective" and "risk" factor for GBV experiences. Religious beliefs were assets in coping with GBV experiences, but also contributed to creating an environment in which violence was normalized, exposing women to further harm. Religious practices supported survivors emotionally to cope with GBV but also some practices posed risks. Religious organizations in many cases served as a lifeline for many displaced women, offering practical and emotional support, however religious leaders at times encouraged survivors to stay in abusive relationships. Religious experiences "empowered" and "disempowered" survivors across the processes of forced migration. Discussion:We demonstrate the relevance and importance of acknowledging the role of religion in the experiences of GBV in forced displacement. Our analysis advances the understanding of religious resources as both protective and risk factors that affect forced migrants' experiences of GBV over time and place. We suggest a way forward for practitioners and researchers to account for the roles of religion in experiences of GBV and forced displacement, as opportunities and barriers to GBV prevention and response, and to work with religious leaders and local faith communities to strengthen protection of survivors. Introduction: Stemming from a stress appraisal and coping perspective, the present investigation developed a methodology for assessing how individuals appraise abusive dating relationship conflicts (Study 1) and the implications of such appraisals for informing coping responses to abusive interactions (Study 2). Methods: Participants ranging in age from 17 to 29 years (Study 1: 102 males, 339 females; Study 2: 88 males, 362 females) completed a survey in which they were presented with a series of 10 scenarios that conveyed relationship conflict cues that were ostensibly aligned with various forms of psychological abuse. Results: Factor analyses indicated that blatant actions conducted in privacy were differentiated from more ambiguous public forms of psychological abuse, in that the latter were appraised by both males and females as more abusive. Females were further likely to appraise blatant conflicts as more threatening but at the same time more resolvable. Participants who had encountered abuse in their own intimate relationships were especially likely to appraise conflicts as abusive, threatening and uncontrollable. Such appraisals were associated with greater endorsement of avoidant coping strategies in response to an abusive encounter, irrespective of personal relationship experiences. Discussion: It is suggested that how individuals appraise relationship conflicts may be key to their ability to cope effectively with such encounters or to provide appropriate support to those experiencing psychologically abusive relationships. Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is common globally, but there is a lack of research on how to intervene early with men who might be using IPV. Building on evidence supporting the benefits of online interventions for women victim/survivors, this study aims to test whether a healthy relationship website (BETTER MAN) is effective at improving men's help seeking, their recognition of behaviours as IPV and their readiness to change their behaviours. Methods/design: In this two-group, pragmatic randomised controlled trial, men aged 18–50 years residing in Australia who have been in an adult intimate relationship (female, male or non-binary partner) in the past 12 months are eligible. Men who report being worried about their behaviour or have had others express concerns about their behaviour towards a partner in the past 12 months will be randomised with a 1:1 allocation ratio to receive the BETTER MAN website or a comparator website (basic healthy relationships information). The BETTER MAN intervention includes self-directed, interactive reflection activities spread across three modules: Better Relationships, Better Values and Better Communication, with a final "action plan" of strategies and resources. Using an intention to treat approach, the primary analysis will estimate between-group difference in the proportion of men who report undertaking help-seeking behaviours for relationship issues in the last 6 months, at 6 months post-baseline. Analysis of secondary outcomes will estimate between-group differences in: (i) mean score of awareness of behaviours in relationships as abusive immediately post-use of website; (ii) mean score on readiness to change immediately post-use of website and 3 months after baseline; and (iii) cost-effectiveness. Discussion: This trial will evaluate the effectiveness of an online healthy relationship tool for men who may use IPV. BETTER MAN could be incorporated into practice in community and health settings, providing an evidence-informed website to assist men to seek help to promote healthy relationships and reduce use of IPV. Trans women have distinct dynamics in abusive relationships that cisgender women may not experience (e.g., purposeful misgendering). Therefore, it is important that IPV service providers recognize the unique needs of trans women to provide appropriate care. We draw on data from a larger study employing an online open-ended survey with a hypothetical vignette depicting a trans woman experiencing IPV (Merken et al., 2023). Responses from 75 IPV service providers in the USA and Canada indicate that many respondents aim to "treat everyone equally" regardless of gender identity, but may do so based on the constraints of their organization. Drawing on colorblind racial ideology, we discuss the harms of generalized IPV service provision, or what we term trans-neutrality. We argue this perspective has harmful consequences for trans women seeking assistance and call for more structural support for service providers to implement sustained trans-inclusive IPV provision. Coordinated multi-agency approaches are a key strategy for responding to recidivist family violence. This paper presents a follow-up quantitative evaluation of Alexis: a coordinated police-social services approach to recidivist and high-risk family violence piloted in Victoria, Australia. State-wide police data was collected for 75 perpetrators 20 to 36 months since case closure following Alexis intervention. Results indicated that 38 perpetrators (51%) had no further recorded incidents of family violence. The remaining non-mutually exclusive categories indicated that 17 (22%) had perpetrated family violence against the original Alexis victim in another location (outside the pilot catchment zones); 28 (37%) had perpetrated family violence against a different victim; and 8 of the prior two groups (11%) had perpetrated violence against both Alexis and non-Alexis victims. Those classified as low recidivists before intervention were less likely to have a further recorded incident of family violence during the follow-up period compared to high recidivists. The main purpose of this study was to investigate reciprocal relationships between abusive supervision, subordinates' emotional exhaustion, and job neglect, and to examine the mediating role of emotional exhaustion in the cross-lagged relationship between abusive supervision and job neglect. Besides, we tested the moderating role of self-compassion in the cross-lagged relationship between abusive supervision and emotional exhaustion. We applied a two-wave cross-lagged panel design with a time lag of six months. Participants were 331 staff nurses of public sector hospitals in Islamabad, Pakistan. Data were collected using a self-report questionnaire at two points in time. Longitudinal structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to compare nested models. Results of cross-lagged SEM analyses supported the posited reciprocal model, indicating that abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion, and job neglect are mutually related. Results of mediation analysis showed that emotional exhaustion partially mediates the cross-lagged relationship between abusive supervision and job neglect. Further, we found that self-compassion attenuates the positive cross-lagged effect of abusive supervision on emotional exhaustion, and the indirect effect of abusive supervision on job neglect was weaker at higher levels of self-compassion. Our findings suggest that subordinates may find themselves in abusive relationships, in part, because their own behavioral responses to abuse can reinforce abusive supervision. Feminist critique of criminal defences has largely focused on the inaccessibility of self-defence for victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) who go on to offend. Yet these victims ("IPV defendants") also struggle to access duress-based defences, despite being subject to duress in many aspects of their lives. New Zealand's duress-based defences of compulsion and duress of circumstances are no exception. In this article, it is argued that the inaccessibility of these defences for IPV defendants stems from two key issues. First, applying a "social entrapment" understanding of intimate partner violence, it is argued that the defence of compulsion is overly restrictive. Secondly, this article finds that the human versus non-human distinction between compulsion and duress of circumstances is divorced from the defences' jurisprudential basis of moral involuntariness. These issues have created a crack between the defences, through which IPV defendants are slipping. Where the threat is human-sourced, it is "compulsion or nothing". Canadian and Australian law, while also flawed for IPV defendants, have made progress in recognising their lived experiences. These jurisdictions illustrate two possible approaches for reform in New Zealand. This article finds New Zealand should adopt a statutory solution to the gap and, having analysed key considerations for reform, offers draft wording for a proposed new defence of coercion which, it is envisaged, will better encompass the lived experience of IPV defendants. According to the trait activation theory (TAT), personality characteristics are dormant until contextual elements stir them into action. Personality traits are expected to be activated in the context of abusive supervision. From this perspective, our paper examines whether abusive supervision affects organisational gossiping behaviour through the dark triad. To this end, this study examines the mediating effects of the dark triad on the relationship between abusive supervision and organisational gossip based on cross-sectional data gathered from two separate samples. Using the results from structural equation modelling, it is evident that abusive supervision activates the dark triad, and its context influences organisational gossip in line with the TAT. In addition, our results show that abusive supervision positively affects gossip for information gathering and relationship building, with the dark triad proving to be completely mediating. This finding implies that abusive supervision is a contextual factor, and as such, behaviours such as consistent ill treatment and non-violent, verbal or non-verbal hostile acts will have long-term and lasting effects on organisational communication in many organisations. Purpose: This paper aims to investigate the influence of religiosity on the relationship between abusive supervision and deviant work behavior (DWB). This paper examines whether the desire for revenge mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and DWB and whether the strength of this relationship is moderated by religiosity. Design/methodology/approach: The proposed relationships were examined by collecting primary data from 350 employees using multistage sampling procedures. Hayes' Process Macro was used to analyze the proposed moderated-mediation model of abusive supervision, DWB, religiosity and desire for revenge. Findings: The analytical findings indicate that an employee's desire for revenge mediates the relationship between abusive supervision and DWB. However, religiosity moderates the indirect effect of abusive supervision (mediated by the desire for revenge) on DWB. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study that explores the role of individual-level religiosity in mitigating the harmful effects of abusive supervision on deviant behavior and revenge in the workplace. We examined how abusive supervision (AS) affected instigated workplace incivility, counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs), organizational citizenship behaviors (OCBs), and multidimensional work motivations (MWMs), in line with the Job Demands-Resources Model and Social Exchange Theory. We suggested that employees' identification with their workgroup moderates the link between AS and instigated incivility toward coworkers and that organizational identification partially mediates the association of AS with CWBs and OCBs. Furthermore, we hypothesized positive correlations between AS and external regulation as well as amotivation, consistent with the Self-Determination Theory. Finally, we predicted that job-related affective well-being would fully mediate the link between AS and autonomous work motivations while only partially mediating the link between AS and amotivation. Online surveys were used to collect data from 519 white-collar workers. The data revealed that AS was linked to a higher level of incivility toward coworkers. Furthermore, it was linked to both CWBs and OCBs, both directly and indirectly through organizational identification. Organizational identification mediated the associations between AS and MWMs as well. Finally, job-related affective well-being mediated the links of AS with external regulation, amotivation, and autonomous work motivations. The Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction is not usually associated with the issue of child adoption: its case law is often complex and focused upon such concepts as "habitual residence" and parental consent, neither of which fit comfortably into the various discourses arising out of adoption law jurisprudence. And yet, aspects of Hague's body of case law arguably hold relevance for adoptees and their estranged birth relatives, in the sense that they touch upon difficult features of family life: kin contact, access to accurate information, abusive relationships, and the notion of relinquished parenthood. Judicial interpretations of such principles as best interests, the voice of the child, the extent of parental responsibility, and the need for child identity, can offer convoluted rights analyses which in turn touch upon the consequences of suffering certain losses, not least original kinships and natal or sociocultural identities. These discourses highlight the implications of maintaining or severing genetic connections: mention is often made of the need for speedy family reunification, the importance of preserving the child's ties to their country of origins, and the benefits of having some form of contact with family members. Significant too is the child's ability-- or otherwise--to integrate into new cross-border familial or sociocultural settings. The human rights implications of losing or gaining access to one's "roots" via geographic dislocation (or indeed through a court-ordered return to a place of origin) are therefore key. A paucity of research has been conducted within South Africa on abused women's experiences of motherhood, even though abused women tend to be at increased risk of negative physical and mental health difficulties, which can interfere with their ability to take care of themselves and their children. The aim of this qualitative study was to explore women's experiences of mothering in the context of an abusive relationship. Data was collected via individual, telephonic, semi-structured, in-depth interviews with 16 mothers from three South African provinces, and analyzed according to the principles of grounded theory. Our findings highlight the mothers' experiences of: a simultaneous increased sense of responsibility with regards to their children and a loss of control over their mothering; as well as experiencing abuse aimed at either the mother or the child, which is simultaneously meant to affect the other; and lastly, mothers' assessing themselves negatively through normative paradigms of 'good mothering', regardless that they often mother in the best way they know how to, given challenging circumstances. Therefore, this study highlights that the motherhood institution continues to create 'good mothering' benchmarks against which women themselves evaluate their mothering, often leading to feelings of inadequacy. Our findings also emphasize that the environment created by men's abuse is in conflict with the great expectations placed upon mothers in abusive relationships. Thus, mothers may experience huge pressure, which may lead to feelings of failure, self-blame, and guilt. This study has demonstrated that the abuse mothers' encounter adversely impacted on their mothering. We therefore emphasize the need to better understand how mothering is influenced by and responsive to violence. This is important as understanding abused women's experiences can assist us to further develop appropriate support mechanisms needed to ensure minimal impact on both women and their children. Purpose: Drawing from identity threat theory, this study aims to understand how and when employee voice can lead to abusive supervision. It proposes and examines a theoretical model in which employee voice is linked to abusive supervision through the mediating effect of leader identity threat. Methods: We conducted a field study by collecting data from 93 supervisors and 533 subordinates in China at two different points in time. A structural equation model and Mplus software were used to examine the direct relationship between employee voice and abusive supervision, as well as the mediating effect of leader identity threat and the moderating effect of supervisor traditionality. Results: Our results showed that employee voice was positively related to leader identity threat and had an indirect effect on abusive supervision via leader identity threat. In addition, we found that supervisor traditionality moderated the relationship between employee voice and leader identity threat. Subordinates' voice increased perceptions of leader identity threat among supervisors with high traditionality, whereas supervisors with low traditionality did not make this association. Finally, the indirect effect of employee voice on abusive supervision via leader identity threat was moderated by supervisor traditionality. Discussion: First, this study broadens our understanding of the antecedents of abusive supervision by proposing that employee voice may induce abusive supervision. Second, it develops an identity threat perspective to explain why employee voice is positively related to abusive supervision. Finally, it enriches the research on implicit leadership theories by proposing that supervisors' cultural values can also influence supervisors' sense-making of subordinates' behaviors. One of the purposes for superiors to abuse subordinates is to obtain a positive response from subordinates by conveying a negative attitude. However, abusive behavior cannot guarantee positive behaviors due to the differences in subordinates' characteristics, such as feedback seeking. Based on the conservation of resources (COR) theory, this study explores the relationship between abusive supervision by superiors and feedback seeking by subordinates in East Asian cultures. Questionnaires were collected from multiple time points and multiple sources. Datum analysis was performed on 318 paired questionnaires between employees and direct supervisors. The results showed that: (1) Employees' perceived face threat has a mediating effect on the relationship between abusive supervision and feedback seeking. (2) Self-affirmation of subordinates positively moderates the relationship between abusive supervision and perceived face threat. (3) Self-handicapping of subordinates positively moderates the relationship between perceived face threat and feedback seeking. This not only explains the mechanism of perceived face threat in the influence of abusive supervision on employees' feedback-seeking behavior, but also reveals the boundary effect of employees' self-affirmation and self-handicapping characteristics in it, which expands the theoretical explanation framework of the influence of abusive supervision on employees' feedback-seeking behavior and also provides new ideas for managers to better implement management in the organization. Sexual minority individuals experience more intimate partner violence (IPV) than those in heterosexual relationships. Issues of mistrust, stigma, and anticipation of abuse contribute to these rates. Lesbian and gay IPV victims have distinct experiences from their abuses with exposure to homophobia, heterosexism, discrimination, and threats of sexual disclosure, among others. These unique and additive minority stressors can lead to adverse health concerns, increase vulnerability to victimization, and elevate abuse perpetration. This study aimed to investigate whether experiences of minority stressors are associated with attitudes toward intimate partner violence among a sample of 240 lesbian and gay Filipinos (155 lesbian and 85 gay participants) aged 20 to 40. Through convenience sampling, lesbian and gay Filipinos completed the Sexual Minority Stress Scale (SMSS) and Intimate Partner Violence Attitude Scale-Revised (IPVAS-Revised). Comparing the minority stressors levels among the participants, lesbians expressed higher expectations of rejection, while gay men experienced more sexual minority adverse events. Lesbians also reported higher satisfaction with outness. Regarding IPV, gay men expressed slightly more favorable attitudes toward abuse, which could make them at risk of becoming victims or perpetrators. Internalized homophobia was associated with more favorable attitudes toward abuse and control, indicating its contribution to more favorable IPV attitudes, although the explanatory power was modest.
