The genus Melissa is used as antibacterial, sedative, digestive aid, carminative, diaphoretic and bile secretion enhancer. It is included in the composition of the preparations used during nervous digestive system disorders, psychosomatic heart disorders and migraine. The flowering branches and leaves of Melissa officinalis L. subsp. altissima. are used as carminative, sedative and its antipyretic effects. It is also used in vascular occlusion, stomach aches, heart ailments, kidney inflammation, cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes. According to our knowledge there are not enough studies on these species grown in Turkey. The aim of this study is to examine the antioxidant, cytotoxic, anticholinesterase, anti-urease and antimicrobial activities of plant’ various extracts obtained by using the sequential maceration method. In the determination of antimicrobial activity well diffusion method on 6 gram negative, 4 gram positive and 3 yeast strains was used. DPPH, CUPRAC and FRAP techniques were used to examine the antioxidant properties of plant\" extracts. The extracts\" anticholinesterase, cytotoxic and anti-urease activity were determined using the Ellman, MTT and Indophenol techniques, respectively. In addition, the phenolic contents of the extracts were determined by FCR method. It was found that petroleum ether extract of the plant was effective against Enterecoccus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus strains and ethyl acetate extract were effective against Staphylococcus aureus strains. The methanol extract of the plant exhibited the highest antioxidant activity when compared to other extracts. It was determined that the petroleum ether extract of Melissa officinalis L. subsp. altissima has stronger acetylcholinesterase and urease enzyme inhibition potential than its other extracts. Furthermore, in this study the ethyl acetate extract of the plant was found to have high cytotoxic activity.

Therefore, this research aims to obtain comprehensive information on antioxidant properties, enzyme inhibitory activity and chemical composition of T. terrestris leaves. HPLC-MS/MS was used to further extensively characterize the chemical composition of T. terrestris extracts. 27, 75, and 51 chemical components were identifed in ethyl acetate, methanol and water extract, respectively. The radical scavenging activity results showed that water extract had the strongest acvitiy (DPPH: 30.50 mgTE/g, ABTS: 44.49 mgTE/g). The reducing power activity was assessed by FRAP and CUPRAC assays. The highest CUPRAC activity is shown by the ethyl acetate extract (79.01 mgTE/g). Water extract showed the highest metal chelating activity compared with other extract. In general, the highest antioxidant capacity were obtained in the water extract. Ethyl acetate extract exhibited the highest enzyme inhibition activity (AChE: 1.56 mgGAE/g; BChE: 2.14 mgGALAE/g; α-amylase: 0.73 mmolACE/g; Tyrosinase: 30.14 mgKAE/g) compared with other extracts. This research provides a scientific basis for the development of natural antioxidant and enzyme inhibiton sources from T. terrestris.

Tragopogon dubius and Tussilago farfara are consumed as vegetables and used in folk medicine to manage common diseases. Herein, the chemical compositions and biological activities of different leaf extracts (ethyl acetate, methanol, and water) of T. dubius and T. farfara were evaluated. The antibacterial, antifungal, and antioxidant abilities of the extracts were tested using different assays including free radical scavenging, reducing power, phosphomolybdenum, and metal chelating assays. Enzyme inhibitory potentials were evaluated against cholinesterases, tyrosinase, alpha-amylase and alpha-glucosidase. Complexes of bioactive compounds (chlorogenic and rosmarinic acid) were docked into the enzymatic cavity of alpha-glucosidase and subjected to molecular dynamic calculation, enzyme conformational stability, and flexibility analysis. T. dubius and T. farfara extracts showed remarkable antioxidant potentials. Ethyl acetate extracts of T. dubius and T. farfara were the most potent inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. T. dubius ethyl acetate extract and T. farfara methanolic extract showed noteworthy activity against alpha-glucosidase. High performance liquid chromatography analysis revealed the abundance of some phenolic compounds including chlorogenic and rosmarinic acids. Ethyl acetate extract of T. dubius showed notable antifungal activity against all strains. Docking studies showed best pose for chlorogenic acid was stabilized by a network of hydrogen bonds with residues Asp1157, Asp1279, whereas rosmarinic acid showed several hydrogen bonds with Asp1157, Asp1420, Asp1526, Lys1460 and Trp1369. This study further validates the use of T. dubius and T. farfara in traditional medicine, as well as act as a stimulus for further studies for future biomedicine development. İnsanoğlu, yaşantısı içerisinde yer alan ve büyük bir bölümünde de etkileşim içerisinde bulunduğu bitkileri tanıyabilmek için onlara özel adlar vermiştir. Bu adları verirken de çoğunlukla her topluluğun kendi dilindeki adları kullandığı görülür. Yurdumuzda da bitkilerin adlandırılmasında yöreselliğin önemli etkenlerden biri olduğu bilinmektedir. Tarih boyunca farklı kültürlere ev sahipliği yapan Anadolu’ da da yöreden yöreye farklılıklar gösteren, çok çeşitli bitki adları kullanılmaktadır. Bu durum Nevşehir'in güney ilçelerinde (Acıgöl, Derinkuyu, Gülşehir, Nevşehir-Merkez, Ürgüp) halkın yararlandığı ve yaşamında geleneksel yeri olan bitkileri belirlemek üzere yapılan etnobotanik araştırmada da belirgin şekilde ortaya çıkmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında Haziran 2012 - Mart 2014 tarihleri arasında ilçe merkezleri ile bu ilçelere bağlı 12 belde ve 81 köyün hepsine gidilerek arazi çalışmaları yapılmış, yöreden 169 taksona ait 444 bitki örneği toplanmış ve bu bitkilere ait çeşitli etnobotanik bilgiler derlenmiştir. Bu çalışmada yörede etnobotanik değeri olduğu saptanan ve yabani olarak bulunan 150 taksondan 146’sının yöresel adları da ele alınmış ve bu makale kapsamında değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, yörede 146 taksona ait toplam 191 yöresel ad sunulmuştur. Bu taksonlardan 98’inin Nevşehir’de, 9’unun ise Türkiye’de yöresel adı ilk kez kaydedilmiştir. Bitkiler Latince adına göre alfabetik olarak liste halinde metin içinde belirtilmiştir. Ayrıca, yörede yetiştirilen 42 bitkiye ait 55 yöresel ad sunulmuştur. Bu çalışma, araştırma yöresinde etnobotanik yönden yapılan ilk geniş kapsamlı araştırmadır. Bu çalışmada yer alan bitkilerden 98 takson hakkında etnobotanik bilgi, araştırma yöresinde ilk kez kaydedilmiştir. Halk ilacı olarak kullanılan taksonlardan 44’ ü Nevşehir’ de, 4’ ü Türkiye’ de, besin olarak yararlanılan 66 taksonun hepsi Nevşehir’ de, üçü ise Türkiye’ de ilk kez kaydedilmiştir. Bu çalışmamızda ayrıca yörede yetişen veya yetiştirilen 161 taksona ait toplam 213 yöresel ad sunulmuştur. During the field works, 439 plant specimens were collected and the various ethnobotanical information belonging to these plants was provided.Results and ConclusionsThe findings of the research are presented in detail in the text. According to the result of this study total 165 plants (taxa) which have ethnobotanical value, were identified. Among them 146 taxa are wild and 19 taxa are cultivated. The plants are mostly used as folk medicine (111 taxa), food (66 taxa), tea (14 taxa) and firewood (14 taxa). This study is the first comprehensive survey of ethnobotanical aspects in southern districts of Nevşehir. The usages of 98 taxa were recorded in the research region for the first time. Among the plants used as folk medicine, 44 taxa of them in Nevşehir, 4 taxa of them in Turkey, all of the 66 taxa utilized as food in Nevşehir and 3 taxa of them in Turkey were recorded for the first time. In addition, total 213 vernacular names belonging to wild or cultivated 161 taxa were presented in this study. ÖZETÜRGÜP (NEVŞEHİR) YÖRESİNİN GELENEKSEL HALK İLACI OLARAK KULLANILAN BİTKİLERİ (İSMAİL ŞENKARDEŞ)Bu çalışma Ürgüp (Nevşehir) yöresinde geleneksel halk ilacı olarak kullanılan bitkileri ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu amaçla Haziran 2009 - Haziran 2010 tarihleri arasında Mayıs, Haziran ve Temmuz aylarında yörede toplam 32 gün süren arazi çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Bu araştırma esnasında yöredeki 3 belde ve 20 köyün hepsine gidilerek halk ilacı olarak kullanılan bitkilerden örnekler toplanmıştır. Bu bitkilerin yöresel adları, tedavideki kullanılışları, yararlanılan kısımları, ilaçların hazırlanışı, uygulanış şekilleri, dozları, uygulama süreleri hakkında bilgiler derlenmiştir. Toplanan bu örnekler Marmara Üniversitesi Eczacılık Fakültesi Herbaryumu’ nda (MARE) bulunmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, yöreden toplanan 116 bitki örneğinin teşhisi sonucunda 67 türden geleneksel halk ilacı olarak yararlanıldığı saptanmıştır. Bunlardan 52’ si yabanî, 15’ i ise yörede yetiştirilen bitkilerdir. Bu bitkiler ve bunların tedavideki kullanılışları metin içinde sunulmuştur. Ürgüp yöresinde kaydedilen bitkilerden en çok şeker hastalığı, kalp-damar hastalıkları, öksürük, yara, astım, mide hastalıkları ve yüksek kolesterol tedavisinde yararlanılmaktadır. For this purpose, the field works have been done between June 2009 - June 2010, in May, June and July, lasting for 32 days in total. During this research all the settlement centers (including 3 small towns and 20 villages) have been visited. The specimens of the plants used as folk remedies have been collected and the information such as local names, ailments treated or therapeutic effects, plant parts used, method of administration, dosage, duration of treatment have been recorded. The collected plant specimens are kept in the Herbarium of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Marmara University (MARE). As a result of identification of 116 plant specimens, 67 species used as a traditional folk medicine, have been determined. Among them 52 species are wild and 15 species are cultivated plants. These plants and their local usage in treatment are presented in the text. The plants recorded in Ürgüp are mostly used for diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, cough, wound, asthma, stomach diseases and high cholesterol. Mudanya Yöresinin Geleneksel Halk İlacı Olarak Kullanılan BitkileriÖğrencinin Adı: Rüveyda ŞERBETÇİOĞLUDanışman: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi İsmail ŞENKARDEŞAmaç: Bu çalışma Mudanya (Bursa) yöresinde geleneksel halk ilacı olarak kullanılan bitkileri ortaya çıkarmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu amaçla Mayıs 2018-Eylül 2019 tarihleri arasında Mayıs, Haziran, Temmuz, Ağustos ve Eylül aylarında yörede toplam 22 gün süren arazi çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Bu araştırma esnasında yöredeki 47 mahallenin 38’ ine gidilerek halk ilacı olarak kullanılan bitkilerden örnekler toplanmıştır. Bu bitkilerin yöresel adları, tedavideki kullanışları, yararlanılan kısımları, ilaçların hazırlanışı, uygulanış şekilleri, dozları, uygulama süreleri hakkında bilgiler derlenmiştir.
