Introduction. Chromosomal numerical aberrations are very common in hematological malignancies, but near-tetraploidy (80–104 chromosomes) is rare in myeloid lineage malignancies, with only a few cases reported in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). Due to a small number of cases with this rare cytogenetic abnormality, clinicopathological significance of near-tetraploidy in MDS is still unknown. In this case report we present a case of de novo MDS patient with near-tetraploidy in association with TP53 mutation, and we aimed to elucidate the prognostic significance of this rare genetic feature. Case outline. In August of 2018, a 71-year-old male presented with severe anemia, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, and enlarged spleen. Laboratory data were as follows: hemoglobin (Hb) 93 g/L, white blood cells 2.8 × 109/L and platelets 23 × 109/L. The bone marrow aspirate was hypercellular, megakaryocytes were not found, 15% of granulocytic cells were with signs of dysplasia, and 16% of blast cells without Auer rods. The finding was in correlation with diagnosis of MDS, type refractory anemia with excess blasts 2 which was also confirmed by immunophenotyping. Cytogenetic finding was near-tetraploidy (48,XY+mar[10]/92,XXYY[10]), and TP53 mutational analysis showed the presence of mutation in exon 8 (p.D281A; c.842 A > C). The patient received from time to time packed red blood cells and platelets, and died four months after initial diagnosis. Conclusion. Near-tetraploidy associated with TP53 mutation has been described in only a few MDS cases. Results of these reports including ours suggest that the association of TP53 mutation and near-tetra polyploidy is a poor prognostic factor.

The aim of this study was to replace fish meal (FM) with soy protein concentrate (SPC) in carp diets. During a carp feeding trial, the replacement of FM with SPC in four diets 100% replacement (SPC100); 50% replacement (SPC50); 25% replacement (SPC25), and; 0% replacement (SPC0) had no negative effects on the feed conversion ratio or the feed efficiency ratio of the live carp. However, significant differences in the specific growth rate and condition factor were found. The data obtained showed the four different carp diets led to differences in the chemical composition of the resultant carp meat. Between dietary treatments, significant differences were seen in the level of saturated fatty acids (FAs) in carp meat (P < 0.05). The levels of monounsaturated FAs and polyunsaturated FAs in carp meat differed significantly between dietary treatments (P ˂ 0.05). Pearson's correlation coefficient indicates a statistically significant correlation between the FA composition of the diet and the resultant carp meat. It is possible to replace up to 25% of the FM with SPC. Diets SPC25 and SPC0 had no significant FA composition and had amino acid balances that, more than the other diets studied, closely met the requirements of the carp.

Wastewater from abattoirs in some countries is disposed of into water bodies without adequate removal of contaminants. Therefore, the use of wastewater in fish production could pose a serious risk for humans, fish and other aquatic organisms due to possible transfer of pathogenic bacteria in aquatic culture environments. The aims of the present study were to assess the levels of individual microorganisms in different tissues of common carp and to determine any correlation with the season of sampling and the type of analysed sample in common carp reared in an integrated production system that used purified water from an abattoir. A fish pond was filled mostly with purified water from an abattoir, but also partly with well water. Carp fingerlings were stocked in the earthen fishpond in March and reared in ambient conditions. Fish were collected in the spring and autumn of the following year and the microbiological quality was assessed. Carp fillets with skin, gills and digestive tract samples were collected individually under aseptic conditions. All analyses were performed according to standard procedures. The levels of all the examined bacteria in the fish were under prescribed hygiene norms. Also, Listeria spp., sulphite-reducing clostridia and Staphylococcus aureus were not found in the samples. Furthermore, pathogenic bacteria, Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes were not isolated from the samples. The hygienic quality of the fish produced in purified waste water from an abattoir was acceptable, and the common carp meat was safe for human consumption.

Introduction. Additional karyotype abnormalities in the Philadelphia-positive (Ph+) clone can emerge during the progression of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and are of-ten associated with the resistance to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI). Sometimes, during the TKI treatment, karyotype abnormalities can appear in the Philadelphia-negative (Ph-) cells as well but do not seem to adversely affect the outcome except for chromosome 7 abnormalities. Case report. The patient presented was in the chronic phase of Ph+ CML with highly diverse karyotype abnormalities. The abnormalities appeared in three unrelated clones during the TKIs treatment, followed by the evolution of the disease into acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The primary Ph+ clone was revealed during the chronic phase of CML, and therapy with imatinib mesylate was commenced. After a three-year hematologic and cytogenetic remission period, the evolution of the primary clone was noticed. Nilotinib was introduced, leading to a good molecular response and the disappearance/loss of the Ph+ clone with additional abnormalities but with the appearance of the Ph-clone with trisomy 8. Finally, after 5.5 years of nilotinib therapy, the Ph-clone with monosomy 7 occurred during the deep molecular response for BCR-ABL. At that time, the FISH analysis for trisomy 8 was negative, but the rise in blast count was noticed in the bone marrow, and the diagnosis of the secondary AML was established soon after. Conclusion. The achievement of the deep molecular response in CML patients does not rule out regular cytogenetic testing of their bone marrow. This is of crucial importance for detecting adverse karyotype abnormalities leading to the development of the myelodysplastic syndrome and AML.

Introduction. The accurate diagnosis of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), not only on the morphological and clinical, but also on the molecular level, is very important for application of targeted therapies. Case report. A 62- year-old woman presented with APL. By using conventional cytogenetic analysis as well as applying the fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis it has not been possible to confirm the presence of t(15;17) in the presented patient. Using reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) two atypical promyelotic leukemia/ retinoic acid receptor alpha (PML/RAR-α) fusion transcripts were identified. Both detected transcripts were isoforms. The larger transcript was in-frame, coding for functional aberrant PML/RAR-α protein, while the shorter transcript was an out-of-frame. Conclusion. Our study highlights the need for the application of molecular methodology in daily clinical practice. Precise characterization of PML/RAR-α fusion transcript creates a basis for identifying rare individual cases that require special caution when treating such patients. To our knowledge this is only the fifth case of atypical PML/RAR-α transcript containing full PML exon 7a, and among them the only one that was cytogenetically cryptic and FISH negative. All of the herein presented cases had lethal outcome. Therefore, our findings with the additional review of the literature, emphasizes the importance of detailed identification of atypical PML/RAR-α fusions, not only for the purpose of knowing their role in leukemogenesis, but also for the assessment of the impact that they can have on the outcome of the treatment.

Abstract Background/Aim. Primary myelofibrosis (PMF) is a chronic, malignant hematological disease characterized by a leucoerythroblastic blood picture, anisopoikilocytosis teardrop- shaped erythrocytes, different degrees of bone marrow fibrosis and hepatosplenomegaly due to extramedullary hematopoiesis. Among genetic specificities of the disease, those that stand out are chromosomal aberrations in pathological, myeloid blood cells. The aim of this study was to examine the prognostic significance of clinical, hematologic and cytogenetic parameters in PMF. Methods. A retrospective study included 144 patients with PMF. Karyotypes were analyzed using conventional cytogenetic methods. Results. The chromosome examinations were successful in 126 (88%) patients and failed in the remainder ones (12%). Karyotype was abnormal in 36/126 (29%) subjects at presentation. The most frequent changes included +9, 13q- and 20q- (28%). Other abnormalities were: aberrations of chromosome 18 and 16, deletions (9q-, 12p-, 7q-, 5q-, 6q-, 8q-), trisomies (+1q, +8, +10, +21), monosomies (-7, -11), 3q inversion and loss of Y chromosome. We detected four novel balanced translocations in PMF: t(17;22)(q11;q13), t(15;17)(q22;q25), t(9;12)(q22;q24) and t(2;4)(q21;p16), one constitutional translocation-rob(13;14)(q10;q10) and some new karyotype anomalies ˗ deletion of both homologues, hyperdiploidy and the coexistence of unrelated pathological clones. Conclusion. Chromosomal aberrations had a significant influence on overall survival of patients with PMF according to the refined cytogenetic-risk of the International Prognostic Scoring System (Refined CIPSS) (p = 0.004). Our patients matched the pattern of chromosome aberrations usually observed in PMF but some newly registered, balanced translocations and other rare karyotype anomalies were recorded as well. Introduction. The isochromosome of the long arm of derivative chromosome 17, that originates from the translocation t(15;17) [ider(17)(q10)t(15;17), or ider(17q)] in acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL), is a rare chromosome aberration associated with a poor prognosis. Case report. We report the clinical and laboratory data associated with ider(17q) for two APL patients. Cytogenetic analysis of bone marrow cells in both cases showed a mosaic karyotype with the ider(17q); reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was positive for the long (L) isoform of the retionic acid receptor alpha (PML-RARA) fusion transcript in each patient. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis with the DNA probes for the PML gene on 15q24.1, and the RARA gene on 17q21.2, confirmed the extra copy of the RARA-PML fusion gene or ider(17q). Additionally, the FISH analysis with a DNA probe for the p53 gene on 17p13.1 confirmed loss of one copy of the universal tumor suppressor p53 in both patients. Conclusion. Both reported APL patients with ider(17q) had predominance of the clone with ider(17q) compared to those with t(15;17) and/or the normal karyotype, indicating that duplication of der(17) may provide a growth advantage allowing the relevant clone to become dominant. Moreover, as an important oncogenic event and poor prognostic factor in leukemia, loss of one gene copy of the tumor suppressor p53, may also contribute to this growth advantage. Although the clinical and prognostic significance for the patients with an ider(17q) remains unclear, cytogenetic and molecular-genetic analysis should be combined to reveal more details about this complex and rare chromosomal abnormality. Introduction. Heat treatment of food provides appropriate shelf life and safety, as well as adequate sensory properties and better digestibility, but excessive thermal processing leads to the loss of nutritive value. In practice, sterilised meat products are usually overheated, which leads to a loss of nutritive value. Therefore, it is necessary to find the optimum between the preservative effect of heat treatment and maintenance of the nutritive value of food. Control of the sterilisation efficiency is based on the Fo value, an indicator of the lethal effect of heat treatment, while the cooking (Co) value indicates a reduction of the nutritive value of heat treated products. Materials and Methods. During pâté sterilisation processes, two working heat treatment regimes were used: the regime used in regular, commercial production and an optimised regime. Heat treatment measurements were carried out using six thermocouple probes placed in the geothermal centres of six chosen cans. For each heat treatment, schematic diagrams were produced. Fo values were determined using Ellab software, and Co values by the graphic method in a semi-logarithmic Thermal Death Time diagram. Results and Conclusions. During pâté sterilisation, where the effective time was 55 minutes (regular regime) at 114°C and 3.2 bar pressure, an average Fo value of 7.90±0.43 was achieved. By reducing the effective sterilisation time to 45 minutes (optimised regime), an average Fo value of 3.81±0.5 was achieved. Both regimes were sufficient to ensure product safety (Fo >3). The average Co value for the regular sterilisation regime was 109.83±1.33 minutes, while for the optimised regime, it was 88.67±4.27 minutes, i.e., an average reduction of 19.26%. This corresponds to a proportionally higher nutritional value of the product treated using the optimised regime. Data on the Fo and Co values achieved during the sterilisation process can make a significant contribution to obtaining products with a better nutritional value through an optimised sterilisation process, without jeopardising product safety. The aim of this work is to give an insight in the significance and role of native musical instruments in Serbian folk tradition based on the representation of these instruments in the Serbian ethnographic material. The focus will also be on the semantic description of phraseological units that have those instruments as central components, in order to show how different cultural contents, typical for a particular native culture, are precisely reflected in the phraseology and language fund of that culture. We will first try to present those instruments and provide brief ethnological analysis of their role in the folk life, followed by the whole repertoire and semantic description of phrasemes, whose central lexical element has the name of a folk musical instrument or some related actions. Ethnographic and phraseological data related to folk instruments was taken from the Serbian ethnographic material and dictionaries of Serbian language. The analysis showed that in Serbian traditional culture musical instruments were used as a signaling tools as well as for communication between people and higher powers.

Fish represents a significant source of animal proteins in the diet of people in a large part of the world. The market in Serbia is supplied from its own production (carp and trout fish ponds) and catch from open waters. However, the largest part of the fish on the market is imported. Average area under carp fish ponds from 2006. to 2012. was 8,417 hektars, and under trout fish ponds was 49,900 square meters. Average annual production of carp fish species in this period was 7,228 tons, and of trout was 923 tons. In open waters of Serbia, the catch (from both professional and sport fishing) is averagely 3,745 tons of fish. The biggest catch of fish in open waters refers to goldfish, then carp and bream, while lower catch refers to white bighead. The objective of this investigation was to determine the scope and structure of fish catch and production in Serbia from 2006. to 2012. The purpose of food packing in modified atmosphere is to extend its sustainability by preventing both biochemical processes and growth of spoilage bacteria. Gases or their mixtures which are mostly used in the modified atmosphere food packing technology are carbon-dioxide (CO2), oxygen (O2) and nitrogen (N2). The aim of our research was to examine the influence of packaging in modified atmosphere and vacuum on the total volatile basic nitrogen (TVB-N) content and pH in muscle of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) and common carp (Cyprinus carpio), as well as to determine the most suitable gas mixtures for packing of these freshwater species. Three sample groups of trout and carp cuts were investigated. The first two groups were packaged in modified atmosphere with different gas ratios: 60%CO2+40%N2 (I group) and 40%CO2+60%N2 (II group), whereas the samples from third, control group, (III group) were vacuum packaged. During trials samples were stored in refrigerator at +3°C. Determination of TVB-N and pH was performed on 1st, 7th and 14th day of storage. The obtained results indicate that the investigated mixtures of gases and vacuum as well had a significant influence on the values of TVB-N in trout and carp cuts samples. The lowest increase in TVB-N was established in trout and carp cuts samples from the group I, whereas the highest increase was established in samples from group III. Statistical significant difference (p < 0,001) between the average values of TVB-N for trout (I group: 18,17 ± 0,93; II group: 20,90 ± 0,81 and III group: 36,18 ± 2,65 mg N/100 g ) and carp cuts (I group: 26,74 ± 1,48; II group: 30,02 ± 0,31 and III group: 35,10 ± 1,75 mg N/100 g) was established on 14th day. The lowest pH value was established in samples packaged in modified atmosphere with 60% CO2 +40% N2 (I group). On 14th day of testing the obtained value was 6,15 ± 0,09 for trout and 5,94 ± 1,11 for carp samples. Increase in pH value in trout samples packed in vacuum was established during the whole period of investigation (p < 0,001), while in carp cuts samples packaged in vacuum the increase in pH value (p < 0,05) was established up to 7th day of testing. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that gas mixture consisting of 60% CO2 and 40% N2 was the most suitable for packaging of fresh trout and carp cuts in terms of selected chemical parameters, such as TVB-N and pH. Antibiotic residues when present in animal tissues, through food chain, can enter human body, causing allergic reactions or facilitating the development of resistant bacterial strains. In order to determine the presence of antibiotics in animal tissues, it is appropriate to use convenient, reliable and sensitive methods. Microbiological methods applied for the detection of antibiotic residues in primary products of animal origin are based on the sensitivity of specific bacterial strains to a particular group of antibiotics. Regulatives on the amount of pesticides, metals and metalloids and other toxic substances, chemotherapeutics, anabolics and other substances which can be found in food ("Off. Gazette", No. 5/92, 11/92 - corr. and 32/02), state that milk and milk products can be used in commercial purposes only if not contain antibiotics in quantities that can be detected by reference methods. The applied method is modified STAR (Screening test for detection of antibiotics) protocol, regulated by the CRL (Community Reference Laboratory) Fougeres, France, in which the initial validation of the method had been carried out. In accordance with the demands of Regulative Commission EC No657/2002, the sensitivity of modified STAR protocol for beta lactam antibiotics group was examined , that is, there was carried out a contracted validation of the method, which initial validation had been performed at CRL. In a couple of series of experiments, 20 blank samples of raw cow milk originating from animals not treated by antibiotics, had been examined. By the beginning of the experiment samples were stored in a freezer at -20ºC. Samples of raw cow milk enriched by working solutions of seven beta-lactam antibiotics, in order to obtain concentrations at the level of 0.5, 1 and 1.5 MRL (Maximmum Residue Limit) for each given antibiotic (Commission Regulation EC No. 37/2010). For detection of beta-lactam antibiotics, there was used Kundrat agar test with previously inoculated G.stearothermophilus ATCC 10149 strain. Aliquots of 30 _l of working solution at 0.5, 1 and 1.5 MRL concentration level, for each antibiotic, were inflicted on two paper disks placed on inoculated Kundrat agar surface. Petri plates with Kundrat agar previously inoculated with G.stearothermophilus , on which the samples were deposited, were incubated for 12-15h at 55oC. The obtained width of microorganisms growth inhibition zone, that is supposed to be at least 2.0 mm, measured from the disc edge, demonstrated the capability to detect all the tested 7 antibiotics from the beta lactam group at a level below the MRLs. The main goal of this research was to explore the ways people portray themselves in resumes, labelled as “unsuitable” after the first review of the recruiters in a manufacturing company in Serbia. The form and the content of fifty resumes were analyzed using qualitative content analysis, inductive approach. Personal life stories described in an intimate and submissive tone were predominantly present in resumes, compared to the description of work experience and competencies. Concerning the content of the resumes, two core categories emerged - I as a worker and Employment needs. Finding support in the literature dealing with postsocialist transformation in Serbia and Hofstede’s theory, results are interpreted as pointing to the opposition of two value systems in Serbia: that of the authors of “unsuitable” resumes, reflecting collectivistic and feminine values and that of the job market in Serbia, reflecting manly individualistic and masculine values. The authors of "unsuitable" resumes display interdependent self-construal, use defensive impression management strategies and their need to work is exclusively financial in nature. Finally, the need for better understanding between job candidates and employers, having different value systems, especially in the context of actual socio-economic changes in Serbia is discussed. On the basis of the performed analyses of the factors that contributed the infected meat reach food chain, we have found out that the infection occurred after consuming the meat inspected by the method of collective samples artificial digestion by using a magnetic stirrer (MM). In this work there are presented assay results which show how modifications of the method, on the level of final sedimentation, influence the reliability of Trichinella larvas detection in the infected meat samples. It has been shown that use of inadequate laboratory containers for larva collecting in final sedimentation and change of volume of digestive liquid that outflow during colouring preparations, can significantly influence inspection results. Larva detection errors ranged from 4 to 80% in presented the experimental groups in regard to the control group of samples inspected by using MM method, which had been carried out completely according to Europe Commission procedure No 2075/2005, where no errors in larva number per sample was found. We consider that the results of this work will contribute to the improvement of control of the method performance and especially of the critical point during inspection of meat samples to Trichinella larvas in Serbia.

Staphylococcal food poisoning is one of the most common foodborne diseases resulting from the ingestion of staphylococcal enterotoxins (SEs) preformed in foods by enterotoxigenic strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci (CPS), mainly Staphylococcus aureus. The presence of enterotoxigenic strains of coagulase-positive staphylococci in raw milk during the production process leads to the contamination of products and outbreaks of alimentary intoxication. The problem of Staphylococcus aureus in cheese remains significant on a global level. Domestic cheese contaminated with enterotoxigenic staphylococci can result in the formation of enterotoxin, which can produce foodborne illness when the product is ingested. Due to microbiological contamination, microbiological criteria are tools that can be used in assessing the safety and quality of foods. In order to avoid foodborne illness, the Serbian Regulation on General and Special Conditions for Food Hygiene (Official Gazette of RS, No. 72/10) provides microbiological criteria for staphylococcal enterotoxins in dairy products.

Trichinosis is a parasitic zoonosis that is caused by parasitic larvae of the genus Trichinella. Serbia is among the countries in which T. spiralis is present, in addition to domestic animals, also in synanthropic and sylvatic animals. This paper presents the results of investigations of the spread of trichinosis among certain species of sylvatic and synanthropic animals, with the aim to establish the role of wild animals in the natural cycle of trichinosis in this country. A total of 155 samples of wild boar, foxes, jackals, and rats were analysed. The samples were investigated through the artificial digestion method using a magnetic stirrer in keeping with Commission Regulation (EC) No 2075/2005. The isolated muscle larvae were determined using the method of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The investigations established a relatively high prevalence of trichinosis in foxes (5%) and jackals (8.33%) in the territory of Vojvodina. The degree of infestation among carnivora in Serbia (10-30 larvae/10g) is much higher than in countries where there is no trichinosis among domestic animals. The prevalence of trichinosis among wild boar is not high, 0.82%, but a very high degree of infestation was established in these animals (1100 larvae/g). According to our results, the prevalence of trichinosis and the degree of infestation in rats collected from pig farms with established trichinosis is extremely high, the prevalence is higher than 80% with a degree of infestation of 900 larvae/g. The isolated muscle larvae were determined as belonging to the species T. spiralis. The spread of trichinosis is affected to a large degree by poor socioeconomic conditions, inadequate education of breeders, the absence of or unsatisfactory veterinary control, irregular animal carcass removal. Trichinosis of domestic swine is widespread in Serbia and it poses a significant risk to human health. The presented data indicate that it is necessary to include measures for preventing the spread of trichinosis from domestic swine to sylvatic animals among the measures that are being implemented to cut down trichinosis among domestic animals.

Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) has become a widespread technique applicable in basic science and diagnostics. Chromosome painting represents a special application of FISH that has found increasing use in identification of complex chromosome rearrangements. Here we present a version of the Alu-PCR method modified to generate a whole chromosome painting probe (WCP) for human chromosome 19 using monochromosomal cell hybrids. In setting up conditions for this method, we established a cheap and fast approach to generation of WCPs for other human chromosomes that could be particularly useful for unambiguous identification of complex chromosomal rearrangements associated with cancer. .

Introduction: Rearrangements of any single chromosome in human karyotype have been reported in patients with pMDS. Objective: To examine the role of aberrations of chromosome 8 in pathogenesis, clinical presentation and progression of myelodysplastic syndromes. Method: Cytogenetic analysis of bone marrow cells was carried out by direct method and by means of 24- and/or 48-hour unstimulated cell culture. Chromosomes were obtained by modified method of HG-bands. Results: On presentation, 109 out of 271 successfully karyotyped patients (40,2%) had abnormal karyotypes. Among them, 22 patients (10.9%) had aberrations of chromosome 8. Ten patients had trisomy 8 as "simple" aberration whilst additional three cases had trisomy 8 included in "complex" karyotypes (≥3 chromosomes). Cases with constitutional trisomy 8 mosaicism (CT8M) were excluded using the chromosome analyses of PHA-stimulated blood cultures. On the contrary, monosomy (seven patients) or deletion of chromosome 8 (two patients) were exclusively found in "complex" karyotypes. During prolonged cytogenetic follow-up, trisomy 8 was not recorded in evolving karyotypes. In contrast, trisomy 8 disappeared in two cases during subsequent cytogenetic studies, i.e. 23 and 72 months from diagnosis, accompanied in one patient with complete hematological remission. No difference regarding age, sex, cytopenia, blood and marrow blast count or response to treatment was found between patients with trisomy 8 as the sole aberration compared to those with normal cytogenetics. Median survival of patients with trisomy 8 as the sole aberration was 27 months, as compared to 32 months in patients with normal cytogenetics (p=0.468), whilst median survival of patients with aberrations of chromosome 8 included in "complex" karyotypes was only 4 months. Conclusion: Aberrations of chromosome 8 are common in patients with pMDS. The presence of a clone with trisomy 8 is not always the sign of disease progression or poor prognosis in MDS patients, in contrast to clones with aberrations of chromosome 8 manifesting the loss of genetic material.

Cytogenetic analysis has proven to be a mandatory part of the diagnosis of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) as well as a major indicator for predicting clinical course and outcome. Aside from the 5q-syndrome, no specific clinico-cytogenetic entity has been reported. To determine the incidence and clinical significance of acquired abnormalities of chromosome 17 in adult primary MDS, we reviewed the cytogenetic features of 271 patients detected at our institution during a 10-year period. Clonal cytogenetic abnormalities were identified in 109 cases. Among them, abnormalities of chromosome 17 were identified in 13 patients (11.9%). Five patients had „single" defects, while in eight patients abnormalities of chromosome 17 were associated with other chromosomal rearrangements („complex" defects). After chromosomes 5,7,8 and 1, abnormalities of chromosome 17 were the most frequent chromosomal rearrangements in our patients with MDS. Following „single" defects of chromosome 17 were identified: del(17)(pl2) in two cases, and i(17)(q10), del(17)(q21;q23) and del(17)(ql2;q22) in one case each. Two patients with del(17p), one with RAEB-t and the other one with CMML, had an aggressive course of the disease with accelerated leukemic transformation and short survival. Patient with i(17q) had RARS subtype and died soon after diagnosis, while other two cases with interstitial deletions of the long arm of chromosome 17 had RAEB subtype and stable, no progressive course of the disease. Among „complex" karyotypes with abnormalities of chromosome 17 we identified der(l 7) in four, monosomy 17 in two, and del(17p) and i(17q) in one case each. Most of these patients transformed to acute leukemia and had very short survival. The results of this study suggest that abnormalities of chromosome 17 are frequent finding in MDS. Loss of genetic material in 17p, both in „single" and „complex" defects, seems to be closely related to poor prognosis of MDS patients.

Accurate temperature measurement is critical across various scientific and industrial applications, necessitating advancements in thermometry techniques. This study explores luminescence thermometry, specifically utilizing machine learning methodologies to enhance temperature sensitivity and accuracy. We investigate the performance of principal component analysis (PCA) on the Eu3+-doped Y2Mo3O12 luminescent probe, contrasting it with the traditional luminescence intensity ratio (LIR) method. By employing PCA to analyze the full emission spectra collected at varying temperatures, we achieve an average accuracy (ΔT) of 0.9 K and a resolution (δT) of 1.0 K, significantly outperforming the LIR method, which yielded an average accuracy of 2.3 K and a resolution of 2.9 K. Our findings demonstrate that while the LIR method offers a maximum sensitivity (Sr) of 5‰ K⁻1 at 472 K, PCA's systematic approach enhances the reliability of temperature measurements, marking a crucial advancement in luminescence thermometry. Cadmium (Cd) and lead (Pb) concentrations were determined in samples of 31 species of vegetables (n = 719) and in vegetable products (n = 17), collected during the period January 2018 to September 2021. These originated from 33 countries, including Serbia. The samples were analysed by inductively coupled plasma – optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Overall, Cd and Pb were found above the limit of detection in 123 (16.7%, n = 736) and 90 (12.2%; n = 736) samples, respectively. According to the former legislation, valid until the end of August 2021, the maximum levels (MLs) of Cd and Pb were exceeded in 1 and 2 samples of vegetables, respectively. Regarding the EU and Serbian legislation which is valid since September 2021 the MLs of Cd and Pb for vegetables were exceeded in 7 samples: Cd in 5 and Pb in 2 samples. The aim of this research was to monitor the effect of vacuum packaging on selected microbial and sensory parameters of cold-smoked common carp (Cyprinus carpio) and cold-smoked bighead carp (Hypophthalmichthys nobilis) fillets stored at 3±0.5 °C, and to determine the shelf-life of the products. Fillets were analysed on days 1, 7, 10,12, 14, 15 and 16. The APCs were significantly higher (p < 0.05) in common carp than in bighead carp from storage day 12. At the end of study, the APC in both species of fish had not reached 7 logcfu/g. No significant differences (p > 0.05) were determined between the PBCs in common carp and bighead carp during the whole period of storage. In cold-smoked bighead carp, the lactobacilli group was dominant at the end of the storage period. According to sensory assessment, it was concluded that vacuum-packaged cold-smoked common carp remained acceptable for up to 15 days of storage, while vacuum-packaged cold-smoked bighead carp remained unchanged until the end of the study (16 days). Herein, we demonstrate the photoluminescence properties of Dy3+-activated YNbO4, LuNbO4, and mixed YxLu1−xNbO4:Dy3+ (x = 0.25, 0.5, 0.75) phosphors. For this purpose, five samples with a fixed Dy3+ concentration (2 mol%) were prepared by the solid-state reaction method. X-ray diffraction measurements showed that all phosphors crystallize in a monoclinic fergusonite-beta-(Y) structure with a C2/c space group. Scanning electron microscopy clearly shows that samples are composed of dense, well-developed micron-sized, cube-shaped grains with rounded edges. The photoluminescent emission spectra feature Dy3+ peaks at standard positions corresponding to transitions from the 4F9/2 excited emitting level to the 6HJ (J = 15/2; 13/2; 11/2 and 9/2) lower levels with two dominant emission bands placed in the blue (~ 479 nm, B) and yellow (~ 576 nm, Y) spectral region. It is observed that with Lu increase in the host lattice Y/B ratio decreases toward the desired ratio of unity to obtain white light. To evaluate the suitability of these phosphors for use in solid-state lighting, their photoluminescence emission was analyzed in detail by calculating CIE coordinates, correlated color temperature (CCT) and Delta u,v (DUV). It is shown that CIE chromaticity coordinates of all Dy3+-activated YxLu1−xNbO4 samples (x = 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1) fall into the white portion of the diagram and that with the increase of Lu in the host lattice color becomes whiter. CCT values for all samples are in the cooler 4000–4500 K range with positive DUVs indicating that color points are placed above the black body curve. The average lifetime of 4F9/2 level is calculated to be ~ 0.2 ms for all Dy3+-activated YxLu1−xNbO4 samples, indicating that there is no influence of the Y-to-Lu ratio in the host niobate material on the luminescence kinetics.
