Aim: The aim of this study was to identify charge nurses' experiences ensuring patient safety during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic. Methods: The research was conducted with charge nurses between July 2021 and February 2022. Research data were collected using a semi‐structured interview with two main questions, six sub‐questions and an audio recording. Interviews were conducted with 12 charge nurses and lasted ≈30 min. The content analysis method was used to transfer the collected data to written documents and define them to analyse the individual interview data. Content analyses were conducted independently by three different researchers. Inclusion and exclusion criteria for content were established to ensure consistency among all researchers. Researchers independently developed a coding scheme for content analysis based on the research objectives and applied it to the content. Intercoder reliability was assessed with Cohen's kappa coefficient to measure the consistency of coding among researchers. Results: Three main themes were identified as a result of the content analysis. The themes identified after independent examination by the three researchers were 'ensuring safety and protection', 'sustaining motivation and resilience' and 'organizational restructuring and challenges'. Conclusions: This study highlights the challenges faced by charge nurses during the COVID‐19 pandemic and their critical role in maintaining patient safety. The findings emphasize the importance of organizational adaptability, continuous motivation and comprehensive risk management strategies. Charge nurses played a key role in enhancing safety measures and fostering a culture of resilience among healthcare staff. Moving forward, these insights should guide health policies and practices to better prepare for future public health crises, ensuring the safety of both patients and staff. Summary statement What is already known about this topic? Nurse managers have experienced various difficulties in ensuring patient safety during the pandemic process. However, few studies have addressed patient and employee safety during the pandemic. What this paper adds? The research examines the organizational changes made in hospitals during the pandemic and their effects on patient safety. The article emphasizes the need for immediate updates in health policies based on the experiences of the pandemic. The research documents the experiences of charge nurses during the pandemic, arguing that these insights should form the basis for further health research and innovations. The implications of this paper: Pandemic experiences necessitate urgent updates to health policies.Support systems for nurses should be strengthened, both psychologically and professionally.Continuous education programmes that include crisis management should be developed.Experiences of charge nurses should form the basis for further research and innovation. Purpose: In this study, we aimed to examine the relationship between depression level, emotion regulation difficulties and social support in individuals with epilepsy. Materials and Methods: Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory-Epilepsy (NDDI-E), Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS), and Two-Way Social Support Scale (2- WSSS) were filled out by the patients followed up with a diagnosis of focal epilepsy. Results: One hundred nine patients were included in the study. Depression was found in 25% of the patients. The median DERS value of the patients with depression was 45 (28-55), and the group without depression was 24 (1833.5). It was determined that the DERS score of the depressed group was significantly higher than the group without depression. There is a negative correlation between social support scale (92 (69.5-102.5)) and emotion regulation difficulties scale (27 (19-41)) in the correlation analysis of the entire study population. According to the regression analysis, difficulties in emotion regulation are the main determinant of depression and explain depression at a rate of 16.8%. Conclusion: Emotion regulation difficulties are one of the main determinants of depression in individuals with epilepsy and inadequate social support is associated with emotion regulation difficulties. In order to reduce the frequency of depression in individuals with epilepsy, rehabilitation programs are needed to strengthen emotion regulation strategies.

- Abstract
Ölçekten elde edilecek veriler hemşirelerinperformansını artırmaya yönelik stratejilerin geliştirilmesinde yol gösterici olabilir Aims and Objectives: Sickness presenteeism affects performance and productivity the most. The concept of sicknessincludes acute health problems such as headache and dizziness, in addition to chronic health problems such as diabetes andhypertension. Evaluation of the effect of sickness presenteeism on nurses' performance and productivity is very importantfor patient safety and health care service quality. However, some existing tools are insufficient to evaluate the impact ofsickness presenteeism on nurses' overall work performance, including patient safety practices. Aim of this study to developSickness Presenteeism Scale–Nurse (SPS-N) and test its psychometric properties.Method: The study has a methodological design. In the first phase, 76 candidate items were created in based on the findingsof detailed literature review and qualitative research conducted with 35 experienced nurses. In the next phase, face validitywas evaluated with the opinions of 23 experts, content validity was calculated based on the opinions of 10 experts, and apilot study was conducted with the participation of 30 nurses. In all these processes, 44 candidate items were removed andsome were revised. The scale was administered to a total of 619 nurses for psychometric analyses, and then the sample wasrandomly divided into two halves. Thus, the factor structure of the scale was determined by Explanatory and ConfirmatoryFactor Analysis, which was carried out with the data of different sample groups. In the evaluation of the construct validityof the scale, 'convergent and discriminant validity' was calculated and its correlation with the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS)was examined for the 'concurrent validity'. Reliability was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, corrected itemtotal score correlation, composite reliability, and split-half relability. Results: According to expert opinions, SPS-N has a good Content Validity (I-CVI = 0.90–1.00, S-CVI Ave = 0.963). Asa result of the exploratory factor analysis, it was determined that the SPS-N consisted of four factors and 21 items andexplained 57.9 of the total variances. This factor structure was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. Within the scopeof concurrent validity, a moderate correlation wasfound between SPS-N and PSS, and it was determined that the convergentand discriminant validity was partially confirmed. Cronbach's a coefficient of overall the scale was calculated as 0.928, theCronbach's a coefficient of the factors was between 0.815 and 0.903, and the composite reliability values were between0.804 and 0.903. Cronbach's alpha value was found to be 0.852–0.867 and Spearman-Brown Coefficient (Unequal Length)0.955 within the scope of the split-half reliability. Conclusion: SPS-N is a valid and reliable tool that can be used to evaluate the effect of nurses' sickness presenteeism onjob performance. The data to be obtained from the scale can guide the development of strategiesto increase the performanceof nurses.

Since December 2020, a significantly higher number of people worldwide have been vaccinated for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Neurological complications have been reported after these vaccines, although a definitive causal relationship has not been proven in the available literature. We describe a 51-year-old man presenting with anti-glutamic acid decarboxylase (anti-GAD) antibody positive autoimmune encephalitis with progressive cognitive impairment and behavioral abnormalities, presenting shortly after the second dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine, possibly representing a serious vaccinerelated adverse event. Response to high-dose steroid and intravenous immunoglobulin treatment was positive. As many people around the world have been vaccinated against COVID-19, this case shows that autoimmune encephalitis and even anti-GAD antibody positive autoimmune encephalitis can develop as a side effect after this new vaccine, but with early diagnosis and appropriate treatment, the clinic can have a good prognosis. Observational studies with large numbers of patients are needed to explain causality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Research Article - Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to form the Turkish adaptation of the SCOPA-SleepScale to be used in evaluating sleep quality in individuals with Parkinson’s disease and to test its psychometric properties. METHOD: Data for this methodological study was collected between May and December 2017 in the neurology outpatient clinic of a hospital through face to face interviews with patients with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease. The sample of the study consisted of 105 patients of 18 years of age and above with no additional neurological diseases who volunteered for the study. The SCOPA Sleep Scale was translated into Turkish through translation and back translation, and expert views were taken to test content validity. The reliability analyses of the scale were performed using item- total score correlations, test-retest correlations, and internal consistency. Exploratory factor analyses were conducted for construct validity and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) were applied for criterion validity. The appropriateness of data for factor analysis was examined using the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) and Bartlett’s tests. RESULTS: The factor loads of the SCOPA Sleep Scale varied between 0.743 and 0.901, and the Turkish version of the scale exhibited a two factor structure in compliance with the original scale. The Cronbach`s alpha coefficient was found 0.907 for the nighttime sleep sub-dimension and 0.906 for the daytime sleepiness sub-dimension. In the test-retest evaluation, a correlation of 0.948 was obtained in the nighttime sleep sub-dimension of the scale and a correlation of 0.956 was obtainedin the daytime sleepiness sub-dimension of the scale. The nighttime sleep sub-dimension of the scale showed a positive correlation with PSQI, while the daytime sleepiness sub-dimension showed a positive correlation with ESS. CONCLUSION: The Turkish form of the SCOPA Sleep Scale is a valid and reliable tool to evaluate the sleep quality of individuals with Parkinson’s disease

Aim: Silent brain ischemia (SBI), defined as ischemic changes and infarcts without neurologic signs, is an established marker of poor survival. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is useful to define SBI and white matter hyperintensities that correspond to microangipathic ischemic disease. This study aimed to investigate the relationship among SBI, white matter lesions and the extent of coronary artery disease (CAD), and to determine possible predictors of SBI.Material and Methods: A total 10640 patients who underwent coronary angiography were retrospectively screened to reveal 312 patients who had been evaluated with a subsequent cranial MRI within 6 months. CAD severity was established with Gensini score and MRIs were evaluated to determine presence of SBI and white matter hyperintensities scored by Fazekas. Finally, 58 patients with SBI and 254 without SBI consisted SBI and non-SBI groups. Results: Patients with SBI were significantly older with higher prevalence of male gender than the non-SBI patients. Both Gensini and Fazekas scores were higher in SBI-group (p, Amaç: Nörolojik bulgu göstermeyen iskemik değişiklikler ve enfarktlar olarak tanımlanan sessiz beyin iskemisi (SBI), kötü sağ kalımın bilinen bir göstergesidir. Objectives: Interictal electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological test used in daily practice and important in the diagnosis and treatment process for epileptic patients. Accurate assessment of the interictal epileptiform discharges (IEDs) and recognition of secondary bilateral synchrony (SBS) are important for the evaluation of appropriate treatment options. In this study, we investigated whether the presence of SBS is a risk factor for seizure frequency, treatment response, and localization. Methods: In this study, the data of 126 patients who were followed up with the diagnosis of epilepsy in the Neurology Outpatient Clinic of Namk Kemal University Education and Research Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Demographic characteristics, seizure frequency, localization, treatment response and EEG characteristics of the patients were investigated and the results of 122 patients were obtained. Results: Fifty-eight (46%) of the patients were female, and 68 (54%) were male. The mean age was 36.5 +/- 16.4 (15-78) years. EEG of 15 patients (12.2%) was reported as SBS. Focal epileptiform abnormality was detected in 54 patients (44.2%) and focal irregular background activity (non-epileptic findings) was found in 12 patients (9.8%). When semiological features and EEG findings were evaluated together, 44 patients (34.9%) were classified as frontal lobe seizures, 66 patients (52.4%) as temporal lobe seizures, 16 patients (12.6%) as the others. Forty-six patients (36.5%) had no seizures, while 15 (11.9%) had one seizure per year, 46 (36.5%) had one seizure in one to six months, and 19 (15.1%) had daily or weekly seizures. Twenty-nine (23%) of the 46 seizure-free patients became seizure-free in an early stage, 17 patients (13.5%) became seizure-free after the sixth month of the treatment. Conclusion: Although the presence of IED and SBS in interictal EEG is not a risk factor for seizure frequency and treatment response, and the rate of SBS is higher in frontal lobe seizures. The presence of IED and SBS in the management of treatment may lead to false results.

Bulgular: Olguların 58’i (%46) kadın, 68’i (%54) erkektir. Yaş ortalaması 36.5±16.4 (15–78) olarak saptanmıştır. On beş hastanın (%12.2) EEG’sinin SBS olarak raporlandığı tespit edilmiştir. Tedavi düzenlenmesinde, İED ve SBS varlığının göz önünde bulundurulması yanlış sonuçlara neden olabilir Objectives: Interictal electroencephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological test used in daily practice and important in the diagnosis and treatment process for epileptic patients. Mother-baby attachment is a process that starts from the pregnancy period and continues in the birth and postpartum period. Nurses working in the field of women's health and midwives have important roles and responsibilities in supporting prenatal attachment. In this review, it is aimed to present the measurement tools, influencing factors and supporting evidence-based applications that evaluate prenatal attachment in the light of literature. As a result of the literature review; "Maternal-Fetal Attachment Scale", "Prenatal Attachment Inventory", "Maternal Prenatal Attachment Scale" and "Prenatal Attachment Scale", which evaluated mother-infant attachment in pregnant women and whose validity and reliability were made in Turkish, were reached. In these studies, it was revealed that many individual and environmental factors of the pregnant woman affected prenatal attachment. In experimental studies available, it was shown that fetal movement count, leopold maneuver practice, pregnancy training and counseling, father training, birth preparation training, relaxation exercise and guided imagery, cognitive behavioral therapies, yoga and meditation practices support prenatal attachment, while listening to music does not affect it. Nurses are recommended to provide training and counseling to pregnant women with low prenatal attachment risk on these cheap and non-invasive practices, and to support the pregnant woman to use the most appropriate method for her. In addition, it was found that studies testing the effectiveness of evidence-based practices in prenatal attachment are limited in our country and more randomized controlled studies are needed. Democracy promotion has become a prominent international policy tool after the collapse of the Soviet Union. This study evaluates the core values of the different democracy understandings and compares the substance and styles of democracy promotion of the EU and the USA in Egypt. While the policy tools and target countries of the both have varied, Egypt is one of the common interest area of these two powers due to its importance. While the democracy promotion discourse on Egypt was too strong, democratization of Egypt has been overshadowed by the other interests of the EU and the U.S. 135

- Abstract
The present study focuses on the quantitative phase imaging of erythrocytes with the aim to compare the morphological differences between epilepsy patients under antiepileptic treatment, who have no other disease which may affect the erythrocyte morphology, and the healthy control group. The white light diffraction phase microscopy (WDPM) has been used to obtain the interferogram of the erythrocyte surfaces. The continuous wavelet transform with Paul wavelet has been chosen to calculate the surface profiles from this interferogram image. For the determination of alteration in morphology, besides WDPM, erythrocyte surfaces have been investigated by light microscope and scanning electron microscope. In this way, it has been possible to see the difference in terms of precision and implementation between the most commonly used methods with regard to the quantitative phase imaging. Erythrocytes from all the samples have been examined and displayed in both two‐ and three‐dimensional way. We have observed that erythrocytes of patients with effective antiepileptic blood levels were more affected in morphology than healthy subjects. When we compared the erythrocyte morphological changes of patients who received monotherapy or polytherapy, no difference was observed. In conclusion, antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) cause red blood cell (RBC) morphological changes and a combined usage of WDPM with Paul wavelet and light microscopy methods are very convenient for studying the erythrocyte morphologies on multiple patients. ObjectiveThis study aimed to determine the attitudes of physicians and nurses in the pediatrics units of a university hospital towards increasing the reporting of errors, applying strategies to increase reporting and evaluating their effectiveness.MethodologyThis is a quasi-experimental and qualitative study using single group pretest-posttest design and a repetitive assessment. It was conducted at Dokuz Eylül University Hospital from 2012 to 2016. In the context of the study, the physicians and nurses in the pediatrics units used the electronic event reporting system and the distance education system to increase error reporting in pediatrics units. These initiatives implemented in research, working in pediatric units to improve error reporting physicians and nurses, is the implementation of electronic incident reporting system and distance education strategy. The study data were collected using a socio-demographic questionnaire and the Medical Error Attitude Scale. The study used an event registration form to compare the events reported in the event reporting system with the events reported in the hospital's written system. The researcher conducted three assessments: once before the initiative and in its sixth and twelfth months. In each assessment, 68 nurses and 35 physicians (103 participants) who responded to the surveys formed the study sample. The study data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, variance analysis in repetitive assessments and test for the significance of two mean scores. In the qualitative stage of the study, the researcher held interviews with seven nurses and six physicians who used the event reporting system and the distance education system. The researcher used content analysis to analyze these data.FindingsBefore the initiative, the study determined that the nurses and physicians had positive medical error attitudes, and there was no statistically significant difference between these groups. All three assessments found that they had positive attitudes. There was a significant difference between physicians' and nurses' medical error attitude levels before the initiative and the sixth and twelfth months of the initiative. However, there was no significant difference between the groups by time in all three assessments. After the use of the event reporting system, there was a 216% increase in the error reporting rate. The qualitative research about the event reporting system and the distance education program identified two main themes (technicalequipment and its use, and awareness) for the event reporting system, and two main themes (content and sufficiency, and new information) for the education program.ResultsThe electronic event reporting system and the distance education program that were used as strategies to increase error reporting in pediatrics units had a positive effect on physicians' and nurses' medical error attitudes and increased their error reporting rate. The participants' opinions about the event reporting system and the education program can also provide guidance for future studies.Key Words: Nursing, medical errors, attitude, patient safety, event reporting. 194

Aim This study is planned in order to diagnose constipation issues and the factors affecting constipation on the elderly living in nursing home. Materials and Methods This descriptive study was carried out on July 1-15, 2015 Süleymanpaşa district in Tekirdağ with 56 individuals who live in an nursing homes and agreed to involve the study. Data were collected with Personal Information Form, Constipation Severity Scale, Mini Nutrition Test, and Barthel Activities of Daily Living Scale. Data were analysed through descriptive (mean, standard deviation, percentage calculation) and comparative (Mann Whitney U Test) statistical analysis methods. Results The average age of participants was 79.32±8.62, and 66% of them were male. 44.6% of the participants stated that they consume less than 4 glasses of water, 55.4% of them stated that they had no constipation problems, and 75% of the participants pointed out that they do not use any medication for constipation. While 57.1% of the elderly were independent in their activities, 35.7% of the participants were determined to be under the risk of malnutrition. It has been determined that elderly using closets/bedpans instead of squat toilets experience constipation more severely. It has also been found out that having constipation problems, using medication against constipation, being dependent in daily activities, and malnutrition affects constipation severity negatively. Conclusion It has been determined that elderly participated in the study experience constipation. Therefore, it has been suggested that awareness should be levelled up through early diagnosis, and measures such as forming an appropriate bowel management programme and a balanced diet should be taken.
