- Abstract
This study aims to investigate the influence of teaching via educational films on science teacher candidates' perceptions of biotechnology applications. This is a mixed-methods study aiming to investigate the influence of teaching with educational films on science teacher candidates' perceptions of biotechnology applications. In the quantitative data collection process of the research, a single group pre-test / post-test experimental design was used. And the phenomenology method was used, on the other hand, to collect the qualitative data of the study. For this research, which aims to investigate the influence of teaching with educational films on science teacher candidates' perceptions of biotechnology applications, 32 second-year science teacher candidates at a state university in Ankara were recruited. Two data collection tools were used in the study. The perception scale for biotechnology applications developed by the researchers was used to collect the quantitative data of the study. While the interview form was used to collect the qualitative data of the study. According to the results the study found that teaching with educational films increased the perceptions of science teacher candidates about biotechnology applications. within the scope of the research, the question of whether teaching a lesson with educational films has an effect on changing their perceptions about the subject, and if so, how this change occurs, was asked during the interview stage, and it was found that the majority of the teacher candidates perceived a meaningful change. - Abstract
Sleep is a physiological need that affects physical and mental performances. However, the number of individuals who experience problems directly or indirectly related to sleep is increasing in various countries. Therefore, it is important to have a short, reliable and valid measure to assess both sleep quality and sleep related variables in school-age children. This study aims to carry out the validity and reliability studies for the Sleep Quality Scale and Sleep Variables Questionnaire (SQS-SVQ) used to determine sleep quality, parental control, total sleep time, mid-point of sleep and sleep efficiency and to adapt it into Turkish. The SQS-SVQ consists of seven scale items to measure sleep quality and eight questionnaire items. The validity and reliability studies of the instrument were carried out on data acquired from 4th-8th graders. Factorial validity for SQS and criterion related validity analyses were carried out for the validity of the SQS-SVQ and correlations ranged from 0.51 to 0.73. These analysis results put forth that the scale is a valid measurement tool. Internal consistency coefficient of the SQS was 0.72 and test-retest correlations of the SQS-SVQ ranged from 0.67 to 0.88. These acquired results indicated that the scale WAS reliable. Meanwhile, gender measurement invariance was tested for SQS and results indicated that gender measurement invariance was established. These results have shown that the SQS-SVQ can be used in social researches and especially in educational studies.

In this paper, the dispersive Schrödinger-Hirota equation with Kerr and parabolic laws in the presence of chromatic and intermodal dispersions were investigated for the first time. The Sinh-Gordon equation expansion method (ShGEEM) was used to get analytical optical solutions of the models. As a result of the application, dark, bright, kink and singular soliton solutions were obtained. 3D, 2D and contour plots of the obtained results were depicted. In addition, the effect of the changing parameter on the wave behavior was investigated and simulated by 2D plots. Due to the fact that the method is applicable and easy to use, no restrictions were encountered. It can be emphasized that the obtained soliton solutions and parameter analyses are innovative for the related investigations in the literature.

The Fringe series is a science fiction production with frequent references to scientific concepts and topics. This study aims to analyse the scientific concepts and topics in the Fringe series and examine them in terms of their appropriateness as a teaching material, particularly for science teacher candidates. This study is a qualitative study. In qualitative research studies, data is collected through observation, interviews, and documents. In this study, document analysis was carried out on the Fringe series as a data collection tool, and the results were discussed in terms of its appropriateness as a teaching material for science subjects. Each episode of the series was watched separately by two different researchers who are experts in their fields. The events and flow in all episodes of the series were examined in terms of sections and dialogues with exemplary references to concepts and subjects in physics, chemistry, and biology. The expert watchers determined the frequency with which the respective concepts and subjects were repeated. The results show that the scientific subjects and concepts covered in the series align with the subjects taught in the education faculties of universities. Therefore, the study proposes that the series can be used as a teaching material to support the learning of science courses, particularly for science teacher candidates. Future research can study other science fiction series and movies in terms of science subjects and concepts, to determine whether they are appropriate for use as teaching materials for science., {"references":["Ayvacı, H. Zakharov Dynamical System ,Extended Rational Sine-Cosine Method ,Extended Rational Sinh-Cosh Method Exact Solutions - Abstract
This paper considers deriving new exact solutions of a nonlinear complex generalized Zakharov dynamical system for two different definitions of derivative operators called conformable and $ M- $ truncated. The system models the spread of the Langmuir waves in ionized plasma. The extended rational $ sine-cosine $ and $ sinh-cosh $ methods are used to solve the considered system. The paper also includes a comparison between the solutions of the models containing separately conformable and $ M- $ truncated derivatives. The solutions are compared in the $ 2D $ and $ 3D $ graphics. All computations and representations of the solutions are fulfilled with the help of Mathematica 12. The methods are efficient and easily computable, so they can be applied to get exact solutions of non-linear PDEs (or PDE systems) with the different types of derivatives.

In this paper, we study the novel exact solutions of the (2+1)-dimensional Biswas–Milovic equation for the description of pulse propagation in optical fiber. We successfully constructed some important solutions, such as dark, singular, combined dark-singular soliton, singular periodic wave and rational function solutions, have been analytically obtained using the extended tanh method. These solutions might play an important role in the engineering and physics fields. It is shown that the considered method provide a straightforward and powerful mathematical tool for solving problems in nonlinear optic and other physical phenomena.

STUDENT engagement , *PSYCHOLOGICAL burnout , *COLLEGE students , *CRITICAL success factor , *SCHOOL attendance - Abstract
Academic burnout and engagement are critical factors in student success, school attendance and dropout. It is important to determine the variables associated with burnout and engagement to develop university students and their competencies. Therefore, the current study aims to elucidate the association of morningness-eveningness preferences, average sleep length (ASL) and social jetlag (SJL) with burnout and engagement in university students. The sample was composed of 270 university students. The composite scale of morningness (CSM), the Maslach burnout inventory-student scale, student engagement scale and a questionnaire were utilized. CSM total score was found to correlate with both burnout and engagement sub-domains significantly. In addition, CSM total score was a significant predictor in all burnout and engagement models. ASL was a significant predictor of exhaustion and cynicism while SJL was significant predictor of efficacy. Both ASL and SJL were significant predictors of silent in-class behaviours sub-domain of engagement. In sum, CSM total score was found to be the most significant predictor of both burnout and engagement compared to other study variables. Considering the relationships of CSM total score with burnout and engagement sub-dimensions, eveningness can be treated as an important risk factor for burnout and engagement in the context of university students. Happiness, defined as thecognitive and emotional evaluations of individual's life as a whole, not only gives individuals positive emotions, but also has positive returns in many areas related to the individual's life. Therefore, the aim of the study was to examine the association of happiness with morningness – eveningness preference, sleep-related variables and academic performance in university students. 547 university students (80.4% female, 19.6% male) aged between 19 and 25 years participated in the study. Demographic Questionnaire, CSM and OHQ-SF were used as data collection instruments. Happiness correlated negatively with MSFsc and positively with both M-E Preference and CGPA. Meanwhile, M-E Preference and CGPA were associative factors of Happiness. Univariate two-way ANCOVA provided a significant two-way interaction. The pairwise comparisons indicated that M-type Achievers had higher happiness scores compared to M-type Underachievers. Similarly, E-type Achievers had higher happiness scores compared to E-type Underachievers. Meanwhile, Happiness scores of both Achievers and Underachievers significantly differed in M-E Preference categories. Happiness scores of Achiever M-types differed significantly from Achiever N-types in favour of M-types. Underachiever N-types had higher happiness scores compared to Underachiever E-types. These results indicate that students' happiness scores increase depending on the increase in student's academic performance and the student's being an earlier chronotype. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Students should have basic information about science topics which are abstract in general and should construct concepts correctly associating with each other in order to better understand the science subjects. Atmospheric pressure is one of these issues so students should know many concepts and should relate them in order to well understand atmospheric pressure. Unless these relationships are well established, students will have difficulty in grasping theoretical subjects, understanding the problems associated with everyday life and explaining these events scientifically. Therefore, in this study, it was aimed to determine high school students’ and teacher candidates’ explanations of atmospheric pressure, factors affecting it and related daily life problems and to what extend explanations of high school students and teacher candidates differ. The research was carried out with a survey method. Participants of the research are senior high school students and senior science, chemistry and physics teacher candidates. A form containing one open-ended and eight two-tiered questions, was used as data collection tool. The results of the study showed that participants were often inadequate to explain the concept of atmospheric pressure, the factors that affected it and the associated events, and there were significant and numerous mistakes in participants descriptions that are in conflict with scientific knowledge. In addition, in terms of education levels and majors, there were no significant differences in correct answer rates of the questions., Öğrencilerin, soyut kavramların yoğun olduğu fen konularını iyi anlaması için konuyla ilgili temel bilgileri çok iyi kavraması ve birbirleri ile ilişkilendirilerek doğru bir biçimde yapılandırması gerekir.

Traditional leadership models are based on the paradigm of bureaucratic top-down administration. These models were suitable for industrial societies and organizations. However, the complex and quickly changing structure of information societies and because market conditions become more and more challenging conditions require different and more flexible organizational structures and leadership approaches. Complexity leadership approach is one of the approaches that were put forward to meet these needs. This approach suggests a new paradigm for leadership, and leadership is defined as a complex interactive dynamic from which adaptive outcomes (learning, innovation, and adaptability) emerge. Multi-cellular higher organisms are complex systems like information societies. In this context, DNA that leads the processes in multi-cellular higher organisms may be taken as a metaphor for leadership. In this study, considering the functions and role of DNA in a cell, the concept of DNA leadership was discussed from the complex system leadership perspective., Geleneksel liderlik modelleri bürokratik merkezden yönetim paradigmasına dayanmaktadır.

Erkan Yüksek Lisans, Makina Mühendisliği Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Prof. Dr. A. Erman Tekkaya Haziran 2005, 234 sayfa Sac şekillendirme teknolojileri son on yıl içinde özellikle otomotiv endüstrisinin gelişmesi ile çokça talep edilir hale gelmiştir. Erkan M.S., Department of Mechanical Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. A. Erman Tekkaya June 2005, 234 pages Sheet metal forming technologies are challenged especially by the improvements in the automotive industry in the last decades. To fulfill the customer expectations, safety requirements and market competitions, new production technologies have been implemented. This study focuses on the assessment of conventional and new sheet metal forming technologies by performing a systematic analysis. A geometry spectrum consisting of six different circular, elliptic, quad cross-sections are selected for the assessment of conventional deep drawing, hydro-mechanical deep drawing and high-pressure sheet metal forming. Within each cross-section, three different equivalent drawing ratios are used as a variant. More than 200 numerical experiments are performed to predict the forming limits of three competing processes. St 14 stainless steel is used as the material throughout the assessment study. The deformation behavior is described by an elasto-plastic material model and all numerical simulations are carried out by using dynamic-explicit commercial finite element code. The process validation is done by interpreting the strain results of numerical experiment. Therefore, the reliability of predictions in the assessment study highly ivdepends on the quality of simulations. The precision of numerical experiments are verified by comparing to NUMSHEET benchmarks, analytical formulation, and experiments to increase the assets of the assessment study. The analyses revealed that depending on the workpiece geometry and dimensional properties certain processes are more preferable for obtaining satisfactory products. The process limits for each process are established based on the analyzed cross- sections of the spectrum. This data is expected to be useful for predicting the formability limits and for selecting the appropriate production process according to a given workpiece geometry.
