CIRCULAR economy , *AGRICULTURAL diversification , *FAMILY farms , *RURAL families , *ENERGY industries - Abstract
Circular economy (CE) has gained prominence in academic research in recent years. Case studies in circular economy have proven to be a useful way to learn about the main barriers and facilitators to implementing circular economy practices. Nevertheless, most of them are based on the manufacturing and energy sectors and technological solutions that are needed to achieve circularity. However, our paper presents the concept of circular economy applied to a diversified farm model. The aim is to discuss to what extent this model meets the circularity criteria that are promoted by the institutions, as well as the factors that favour and slow down the implementation of circularity in this type of farm. The case study analyzed is a family farm which has been making an innovative proposal for diversification in different links of the agri-food chain to "closing circles." [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POSTPARTUM depression , *SUICIDAL behavior , *AGGRESSION (Psychology) , *MEDICAL personnel , *PERINATAL period - Abstract
The aim of our study is to explore the mechanisms that come into play in cases of suicidal acts during the post-partum period. Our starting point is to emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary support – psychological, medical and social – in establishing a multifaceted network for parents during and after pregnancy. Additionally, the link between post-partum depression and suicidal behavior is discussed, as are the different types of risk factors. Our method consists of a review of the literature on the issues involved in supporting women in the ante- and post-partum periods, to prevent or support post-partum depression, and any resulting acts of aggression. These observations are then supported through the study of a clinical case illustrating the blind spots in the care system, which can leave certain subjects out in the cold. The clinical case illustrates the desire to have a child, the use of drugs during the perinatal period and the consequences of confinement in France during the post-partum period. The results of our study show that the post-partum suicidal trajectory is multifactorial, originating in the antepartum period, combining endogenous and exogenous factors, as well as society's supposed expectations of the mother-to-be. It should also be noted that support for mothers suffering from post-partum depression is often uneven in the different regions of the country, due to a lack of resources in terms of staff or structure, sometimes allowing the patient to slip through the net of care, leading her to act out. Information and training for professionals on the issue of the post-partum period and its possible repercussions on the mother's behavior are essential for better prevention and rapid treatment. Sometimes, depression is diagnosed during pregnancy, which facilitates treatment and speeds up contact with professionals to provide the best possible support for the mother during her perinatal period. We note, however, that multidisciplinary support for suicidal women helps limit the risk of the symptoms worsening and the risk of the patient acting on them. We emphasize and encourage concerted work and cooperation between institutional professionals and independent professionals in the psychiatric, medical, and social fields, to establish the multidisciplinary network needed to support all women, as they become mothers. Multidisciplinary support for mothers is essential during the perinatal period. Of course, we need to consider the importance of the health professional's work, but the family, spouse, and friends are also essential resources for the mother's well-being, and it is important to include them in this support network. JOURNALISM teachers , *CURRICULUM planning , *EMOTIONAL trauma , *JOURNALISM education , *SCHOLARS - Abstract
This article reflects the perspectives of journalism educators responsible for preparing journalists for careers in the Middle East and North Africa region, which has received little attention in trauma education research. A survey with quantitative and qualitative questions is used to reflect opinions of 101 journalism educators from Algeria, Sudan, and Palestine on journalism trauma-focused education and to elicit their attitudes toward incorporating trauma education into their institutions' journalism curricula. The findings revealed that journalism educators are particularly cognizant of the role of trauma in journalism practice and the relevance of incorporating trauma education elements into journalism curricula. Journalism educators have identified a number of barriers to incorporating trauma into their institutions' journalism curricula, as well as various perspectives on how to incorporate trauma-focused education into journalism curricula, which could call for changing how journalism is taught in their respective institutions. The study establishes a methodological foundation for other scholars to use when investigating triangulation (or the lack thereof) among educators, students, and practitioners in their own communities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Introduction. Conclusion. COMMUNITIES , *SEMI-structured interviews , *RADICALISM - Abstract
There exists an unsettling relationship between Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) and formal schooling today that remains under-researched and largely unproblematized. This article draws on semi-structured interviews with state level policy actors as they implement a federally funded, small-scale grant to develop Restorative Practice in four Australian schools. The approach – as a form of Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) – was intended to guard against student behaviours deemed 'at risk'. The data suggest that policy makers are vigilant in conducting their work in relation to a conception of risk and draw on a repertoire of skills when operating in an 'in-between' space between federal prerogatives and local communities. Beck's work on risk and Bourdieu's notion of habitus inform the analysis. The article focuses on how the habitus of policy actors is brought into tension as they navigate the politicized space of their employment by focusing on four overlapping areas – evidencing the affective dimension, guarding against stigma, strategic use of language and coordinating institutions. This research sets out to respond to the fact that the initial and permanent professional training of Infant Education teachers is one of the least explored topics in the prolific field of teacher training. Our objective is to delve into the conceptions of these teachers about the initial and permanent pro fessional training they have received, and to explore how they assess the impact of these two types of training on their professional practice. To achieve this objective, we used a collective case-study methodology. The instrument was a semi-structured clinical interview that, through content analysis, made it possible to know and fully understand the particularities of each of the cases studied. In addition, we carried out another analysis to establish semantic networks between the established categories. This analysis allowed us to map out common points and dissensions between both categories. The results showed that teachers considered it was necessary to improve initial professional training because it was excessively theoretical and the need for permanent training to be conducted in the schools to facilitate conciliation and adapt it to each context. The Infant Education teachers who participated in our research were not very satisfied with the initial and permanent professional training they received because they considered it was not very practice-oriented. Introduction: There is a need to improve public health interventions to promote youth social and emotional development in close collaboration with schools, families and local communities. A close intersectoral collaboration between the regional public health, schools and school boards was established to co-construct and implement "Positive Intervention (PI)" in the Eastern Townships region (Quebec, Canada). This paper describes its implementation according to the "Integrated Community Care (ICC)" framework. Description: PI is a collaborative and personalized intervention leaning toward an integrated community social care model. In fact, PI relies on the close proximity between Public Health and their educational counterpart as well as their individual temporality. However, PI offered mainly social services and its relationships with Primary Care services was not yet a priority. Discussion: The results show that it is possible to develop and implement an intervention promoting positive mental health in children, with and for local organisations. The level of integration between schools and Public Health services achieved after only 6 months of implementation is encouraging. Conclusion: More research is needed to thoroughly document the implementation, social validity, and effects of such an intervention by taking in the point of view of all stakeholders. We present the first case study of a Franco-Japanese child under six years of age residing in Japan and receiving psychoanalytic treatment. Prior to the age of two the child presented numerous symptoms impairing communication and social relationships such as language delay, stereotypies, lack of eye contact, and relational withdrawal, and was diagnosed with autism and intellectual disability. Since the age of two the child had been treated at a frequency of two 45-minute sessions per week, associated with the interventions of two volunteers who provided a psychoeducational support role. We detail the nature of his internal world and how the Japanese and pandemic context limited his progress. The case study reveals the near absence of autism prevention and treatment for preschoolers in Japan, as well as the difficulty of schools accredited by the Agency for Teaching French Abroad (AEFE) to accommodate individuals with autism. From a psychoanalytical point of view, the case study is an original contribution based on the theoretical-clinical corpus of the French school led by Geneviève Haag and the CIPPA, in a Japanese context. Japan must develop actions for the prevention of autism spectrum disorders by training professionals and by identifying the risk in babies from the age of six months. A report on the inclusion of disabled people in AEFE approved schools is urgent and must include parents, including those of children who have been forced to leave school. The length of time to process requests of disability recognition at the MDPH is excessively long: in the present case, there was no response after two years and a loss of the application file circulating between the consular services and the MDPH. The worldwide treatment of early childhood autism has been dominated for decades by behavioral and psycho-educational approaches. Today, it must be associated with a questioning of the internal world, hypotheses and tools developed by a French psychoanalytical school still too little known internationally, especially in Japan. Introduction: Despite nurses' substantial role in care coordination, few education programs exist to better support them in this role. Identification of a set of core care coordination activities across heterogeneous care coordination programs would facilitate the development of a standard of practice. We sought to examine care coordination activities across two care coordination programs in Family Medicine Groups in Quebec, and their relationship to the program design. Methods: We performed a comparative case study of two care coordination programs in primary care targeting frequent users of healthcare services and people with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders. Data collection included documents and semi-structured interviews with key informants. Results: Several activities were common to both programs, such as patient identification; assessment, development of an individualized service plan; and linking patients and caregivers with professionals and services. However, their components were different due to the impact of the integrated care program design, policy environment, and the target patient populations' complex needs. Discussion: The homogeneity or heterogeneity of patients' complex needs shapes their care trajectory and the intensity of their care coordination needs. As the complexity of these needs grows, so does the necessity to build the care coordinators' capacity for integrated care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social cognition is a neurodynamic process that restructures and regulates a person's social behavior in function of time and space. In recent years, this construct has taken relevance regarding neuropsychological evaluations since it lays the foundations for the approach and forecast of a successful social adaptation in people with autistic condition. This article explores the life of Saya, a three year and ten months old child, whom reflects a slight autist condition. As the main study tool, a neuropsychological evaluation was carried out and focused on psychobiology. This evaluation included the social cognition, which analyzes four different systems: social perception, socio-affective, mental attribution and inferential and executive, in order to start her therapeutic process. The diagnosis of conversion disorder causes many difficulties in children and adolescents. As a diagnosis of exclusion, it implies diagnostic procedures that are often long and costly. The objective is to describe the difficulties encountered by health professionals in the diagnostic process when faced with an atypical neurological symptom. A mixed study combining a case study and a thematic qualitative study based on semi-directed interviews with the physicians who managed the patient of the case study. The case study highlighted the difficulties of articulation with psychiatry. The thematic analysis revealed four main difficulties: 1) specific patients with a complex picture that lead to diagnostic difficulties in emergency; 2) specific parents with a strong demand for a precise diagnosis despite an ambivalence towards psychiatric illness; 3) a specific physio-psycho-pathology that can be difficult to explain to patients and families due to a lack of knowledge among somatic physicians; 4) a feeling of failure and doubt with regard to these complex pictures leading to difficulties in positioning the patients. Patients with conversion disorders require time, listening and reflection. This temporality is not compatible with the emergency context, often reinforced by the pressure of worried parents. The lack of specialized training in mental health and interdisciplinarity and the stigmatization of psychiatric diagnostic hypotheses hinder care and can lead to serious consequences in the short and long term. The representations of the autistic subject who is mute or has great difficulty with language no longer coincide with the clinical and non-clinical documents collected over the last decades. The story of Eric's care, from his childhood diagnosis until his reaching legal adulthood, is used as a clinical illustration of the various attitudes that an autistic subject can have with language. If the erasure of the voice signals a defense against primordial difficulties, the development of special interests favors the elaboration of an edge which, by becoming more complex, allows an increasingly significant insertion in certain social environments. Some stages of this developing language are identified here, including leaning on a double, the factual language of ordered signs, and accessing the realm of metaphor. However, this sequence remains marked by an idiosyncratic trajectory where the opposition of "good" and "evil" covers the difficulty of integrating a father figure judged to be deficient. Although it involves surprising interactions, a treatment through "verbose" speech, even within public mental health units, proves to be relevant for the accompaniment of the autistic subject in his evolution, provided that a therapeutic attitude informed by the principles governing autistic structuring is deployed. - Abstract
This case study explores a decades long evolution towards a gender-responsive sorghum breeding program in Mali. With known disparities in men and women's access to the resources that improve agricultural productivity and evidence that gender roles and responsibilities shape knowledge and preferences about varieties, there is need for methods that support gender-responsive processes in plant breeding programs. Gender-sensitive and gender-responsive approaches in plant breeding may increase varietal options available to diverse end-users, increase adoption, and limit negative impacts on vulnerable populations. We assess a participatory plant breeding program in Mali to identify determinants of gender-responsive breeding programs. The analysis uses a case study methodology that draws upon project reports, theses, articles, and experiential knowledge to understand how the sorghum breeding program transitioned over time. This case study details (a) more than a decade of sorghum breeding activities and research that led to (b) the inclusion of women in participatory plant breeding, culinary tests, and large-scale participatory selection in on-farm trials, reaching hundreds of women each year and (c) iterative co-learning processes to develop preferred sorghum varieties and increase sorghum yields on men and women's fields. Analyses indicated that collaborations among many institutions on-farm with community actors, research across various disciplines such as agronomy and social sciences, context-specific breeding, and long-term funding were essential to increasing gender sensitivity and responsive in the breeding efforts.

- Abstract
Biodiversity conservation are increasingly focused on involving stakeholder engagement, making power a key concept in understanding its success and failure. Power is often conceptualized as unidimensional and coercive, but a multidimensional view better reflects structural power, as well as its productive and enabling potential. This paper investigates how different dimensions of power in participatory processes affect biodiversity conservation objectives. Six case studies from Europe and Asia-Pacific were analysed using an adapted framework that explores the interlinkages between 'power over' and 'transformative power', looking at the scale and space in which power occurs, and analysing in which arenas of power and under which form of expression it appears. The framework distinguishes between the different ways to exert influence ('power to', 'power with', 'power within', 'power for'), as well as the dynamics of domination and resistance observed in decision-making (visible power), hidden biases and exclusionary experiences (hidden power), and actions that either reinforce or resist social norms and beliefs (invisible and systematic power). Focusing on biodiversity, the different arenas of power allow us to go deeper than the surface issues and conflicting interests of diverse participants, regarding for example wildlife, to question underlying power dynamics. Different expressions of power, more specifically the 'power for' dimension, allow an understanding of how participants integrate nature and biodiversity in their aspirations. The different levels of power also highlight the need to focus not only on the local level but to analyse how participatory processes are embedded in national, or even international governance in a globalized world. Finally, they shed light on two challenges in participatory processes regarding biodiversity: the representation of non-human interests (designated here as 'beyond-human' voices), and the integration of multiple forms of kno

- Abstract

- Abstract
Official conservation activities are absent in many tropical regions, but local people living in and around these areas nonetheless engage in practices that contribute to conservation objectives. These practices, when they arise endogenously, are referred to here as autonomous conservation. They are not well documented and their value and significance remain unclear and debated among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. We reviewed literature on autonomous conservation practices, combining keyword searches, snowballing, citation tracking, and references from scholars in our network. Eighteen cases of autonomous conservation in the tropics, representing marine (n=11), terrestrial (n=6), and combined systems (n=1) were identified for additional analysis. Our review identified three common themes linking long-standing local practices and conservation. The first theme emphasizes conservation as an outcome achieved through various practices, including those associated with spiritual beliefs and taboos. These practices restrain overharvesting, sustain resources, and protect places and species. Second, the overall effectiveness of these practices is influenced by the strength of social institutions, knowledge transfer mechanisms, and deterrence measures. They are grounded in norms, legitimacy, and respect that promote compliance, maintain social processes, and sustain practices over time. The third theme highlights the nuanced perspectives on conservation ethics within local communities. Some authors view conservation as embedded in local knowledge and practice, while others emphasize the importance of discerning a recognizable conservation motive when labeling these autonomous practices as 'conservation'. As conservation policies and practices increasingly demand evidence-based approaches, understanding local practices and their relevance in conservation is crucial for more effective and inclusive conservation.

- Abstract
Firewood is a key energy source in developing countries, but its consideration for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) purposes suffers from both data and methodological issues. A specific literature review revealed considerable variability in the way these issues have been addressed in existing studies. To improve current practices, a framework for proper inclusion of all environmental impacts related to traditional firewood uses is proposed, and a configurable dataset for other studies was produced. The framework was then applied to a case study on shea butter production, where firewood accounting appeared to be one of the main sources of discrepancies in the results of existing studies. For each parameter related to firewood uses and their impacts, data and methodological choices that LCA practitioners may face were then investigated through uncertainty and sensitivity analyses. Firewood consumption volumes and emission factors from firewood combustion proved to be the most critical parameters for all environmental issues, and the options explored in this study to tackle these data collection issues can be adapted to other case studies. Beyond data matters, the main methodological challenge for firewood accounting lies in estimating the fraction of firewood from non-renewable sources. Use of the default values from the spatially explicit supply-demand WISDOM model is recommended here. For the shea butter value chain in Burkina Faso, one of the main solutions for mitigating environmental impacts would be to reduce firewood consumption by promoting improved cookstoves, improving boiling practices, or replacing firewood with other biomass sources, such as shea nutshells.

- Abstract
Purpose of Review: International ambitions for massive afforestation and restoration are high. To make these investments sustainable and resilient under future climate change, science is calling for a shift from planting monocultures to mixed forests. But what is the scientific basis for promoting diverse plantations, and what is the feasibility of their establishment and management? As the largest global network of tree diversity experiments, TreeDivNet is uniquely positioned to answer these pressing questions. Building on 428 peer-reviewed TreeDivNet studies, combined with the results of a questionnaire completed by managers of 32 TreeDivNet sites, we aimed to answer the following questions: (i) How and where have TreeDivNet experiments enabled the relationship between tree diversity and tree performance (including productivity, survival, and pathogen damage) to be studied, and what has been learned? (ii) What are the remaining key knowledge gaps in our understanding of the relationship between tree diversity and tree performance? and (iii) What practical insights can be gained from the TreeDivNet experiments for operational, real-world forest plantations? Recent Findings: We developed a conceptual framework that identifies the variety of pathways through which target tree performance is related to local neighbourhood diversity and mapped the research efforts for each of those pathways. Experimental research on forest mixtures has focused primarily on direct tree diversity effects on productivity, with generally positive effects of species and functional diversity on productivity. Fewer studies focused on indirect effects mediated via biotic growing conditions (e.g. soil microbes and herbivores) and resource availability and uptake. Most studies examining light uptake found positive effects of species diversity. For pests and diseases, the evidence points mostly towards lower levels of infection for target trees when growing in mixed plantations. Tree diversity ef

- Abstract

This single case study examined the perspectives of 12 pre-service teachers in one Ontario teacher education program towards their preparation for inclusive teaching using Sensemaking theory as a theoretical framework. Semi-structured interviews as well as document analysis for inclusive education policies were conducted. The findings showed that pre-service teachers perceive inclusion as a collaborative policy practice that requires the possession of a positive mindset, respect towards all learners, and the necessary resources. Moreover, the findings suggest the need for the examinedprogram to critically review its curricular structure in terms of how course designs and requirements would further support future teachers’ knowledge and practices around inclusive teaching. In addition, completing the field-based experience component under the supervision of inclusion-oriented associate teachers and in K-12 classrooms that exemplify students’ diversity was found crucial.

The purpose of this exploratory case study is to consider from peer tutors' perspectives the relevance of information literacy (IL) in their roles as tutors, students and in their everyday lives. The research used a qualitative methodology, wherein nine participants shared thoughts and reflections in course discussion forums in response to six online modules, each outlining one of the six frames of the ACRL information literacy framework. The data-gathering phase of the study was bookended by focus groups that were also recorded. Analysis of these various discussions reveals that while tutors see the relevance of IL in their everyday lives, their responses in terms of their roles as tutors and students varies depending on the nature of their program. The need to budget research time efficiently in response to a heavy course load prevents some from pursuing information more broadly or deeply than strictly necessary. The paper considers implications of these insights for further inquiry into the library's role in advancing IL development in a polytechnical environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
