International audience; In this paper, we propose different methods to quantify similarities of compositional texture in symbolically encoded piano music. A melodic contour or harmonic progression can be shaped into a wide variety of different rhythms, densities, or combinations of layers. Instead of describing these textural organizations only locally, using existing formalisms, we question how these parameters may evolve throughout a musical piece, and more specifically how much they change. Hence, we define six distance metrics to compare texture between two musical bars, based either on textural labels annotated with a dedicated syntax, or on raw musical content. We propose an evaluation methodology based on textural homogeneity and contrasts in classical Thema and Variations using the TAVERN dataset. Finally, we illustrate use cases of these tools to analyze long-term structure, and discuss the impact of these results on the understanding of musical texture.

International audience; In the sound documentary Listening is Action, the composer Hildegard Westerkamp engages in a conversation with Luis Velasco-Pufleau at her home in the city of Vancouver, which is situated on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. She talks us through her first field recordings and her soundwalking practice, her work at the Vancouver Co-operative Radio, and her participation in the World Soundscape Project, all of which started or took place in the 1970s. Furthermore, she takes us on soundwalks at places she used to go and record more than thirty years ago, such as those now called Kitsilano Beach and Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, and that constitute the sources for her soundscape works A Walk Through the City (1981) and Kits Beach Soundwalk (1989). This sound documentary is an invitation to listen more attentively to the multiple voices that inhabit our environments in order to imagine new, plural, and unforeseen realities. The sound work Listening is Action is enhanced by a written commentary in which Luis Velasco-Pufleau explores the radical relationality of listening and the connection between Westerkamp’s thinking with the work of Pauline Oliveros and Hannah Arendt. Finally, he engages with critical listening positionality in order to reflect on some of the limits and contradictions present in the sound documentary.

International audience; Eulalie is an operational, open-source, and free information system dedicated to electroacoustic music for the documentation and preservation of works. It is based on the Dorémus ontology, which we adapt to the speci c eld of electroacoustic music, and on its implementation in a database (Heurist, used together with Nakala to host the documents). The project was born in the context of Art Zoyd Studios, a center for musical creation. One of the missions of this center is to preserve the repertoire of the th-and st-century pieces involving electronics. The principles of interoperability and open data have guided the di erent choices made throughout the project. Thus, not only is it possible to make the content of the Art Zoyd Studios information database interact with other resources on music, but the Eulalie system itself can be used by other institutions facing similar problems.; Eulalie est un système documentaire opérationnel, distribué en open source et gratuit, dédié à la musique électroacoustique, à des fins de documentation et de conservation des œuvres. Il repose sur l’ontologie Dorémus, dont nous proposons une adaptation à ce champ musical spécifique, ainsi que sur son implémentation dans une base de données (Heurist, utilisé avec Nakala pour l’hébergement des documents). Le projet est né dans le contexte d’Art Zoyd Studios, centre de création musicale dont l’une des missions est la préservation et l’entrée au répertoire de pièces du xxe et du xxie siècles utilisant l’électronique. Les principes d’interopérabilité et d’ouverture des données ont guidé les différents choix effectués tout au long du projet. Ainsi, non seulement il est possible de faire dialoguer le contenu de la base documentaire d’Art Zoyd Studios avec d’autres ressources sur la musique, mais le système Eulalie lui-même peut être utilisé par d’autres institutions rencontrant des problèmes similaires.

International audience; Advancing knowledge and understanding about performed music is hampered by a lack of annotation data for music expressivity. To enable large-scale collection of annotations and explorations of performed music, the authors have created a workflow that is enabled by CosmoNote, a Web-based citizen science tool for annotating musical structures created by the performer and experienced by the listener during expressive piano performances. To enable annotation tasks with CosmoNote, annotators can listen to the recorded performances and view synchronized music visualization layers including the audio waveform, recorded notes, extracted audio features such as loudness and tempo, and score features such as harmonic tension. Annotators have the ability to zoom into specific parts of a performance and see visuals and listen to the audio from just that part. The annotation of performed musical structures is done by using boundaries of varying strengths, regions, comments, and note groups. By analyzing the annotations collected with CosmoNote, performance decisions will be able to be modeled and analyzed in order to aid in the understanding of expressive choices in musical performances and discover the vocabulary of performed musical structures.

International audience; Marot’s Psalm paraphrases have been widely hailed as a major poetic achievement in French Renaissance poetry. Although Marot wants to stay as close as possible to his biblical source, his rendering of Ps. 137 stands out due to some of its metrical features and tone, as shaped by the initial rime aquatiques-melancoliques, which is totally absent from earlier translations. Far from being ornamental, such an innovative move imparts a new reading to the text, reworking some of its features while thoroughly rephrasing the expression of loss that pervades the entire poem. Engaging in a close exegetical reading of the text, the article aims at showing how Marot achieves to convey a deeper poetic meaning in addressing one of the most violent, excruciating songs of the Psalter, thus turning its bitter harshness into a meditative piece of sorts and a genuine masterpiece, testifying to both his spiritual commitment and his aesthetic position.

International audience; Pourquoi des compositeurs du monde arabe adoptent-ils l'univers esthétique de la « musique contemporaine » dont les musiques, affranchies de toute norme préétablie, se laissent difficilement appréhender ? Par simple choix personnel, dira-t-on, choix stimulé par un monde plus que jamais ouvert. Ou peut-être du fait de la fascination qu'exercerait encore le modernisme occidental sur les subjectivités du Sud, comme pourrait le postuler une approche postcoloniale. De telles explications ne disent cependant rien sur le rapport intime, mais aussi critique, du compositeur avec sa culture d’origine. Nombre de ces compositeurs, en effet, se réapproprient des musiques traditionnelles de leur enfance sans jamais les afficher comme marques identitaires.Dans Fragments accordés, Anis Fariji place cette démarche de création dans le contexte culturel du monde arabe. Il s’arrête sur les manières dont a été affecté le matériau musical traditionnel depuis l’introduction de l’enregistrement sonore. Il parcourt les discours de la création musicale dans le monde arabe. Enfin, à travers les musiques d’Ahmed Essyad, de Zad Moultaka et de Saed Haddad, il analyse le devenir critique du matériau traditionnel dans des formes aussi singulières qu’exigeantes.

De nombreuses comédies, jouées à l’Hôtel de Bourgogne, puis publiées dans le recueil Le Théatre Italien d’Evariste Gherardi (1700), mettent en scène des comportements transgressifs relevant du phénomène de la coquetterie chez des personnages féminins en guerre contre l’autorité des pères et des maris. Après plusieurs avertissements, la fermeture de la Comédie-Italienne est décrétée par Louis XIV et les acteurs se voient interdire de jouer à Paris (1697). Dans quelle mesure la mise en scène d’un intime scandaleux, au cœur de ces comédies, peut-elle être considérée un facteur déclencheur provoquant la fermeture de la Comédie-Italienne ? In che misura la messa in scena di tali comportamenti scandalosi al centro di queste commedie può essere considerata uno dei fattori determinanti della chiusura della Comédie-Italienne ? Behind the screen of a playful theater, mainly aiming at pure entertainment, the scene of the Comédie-Italienne becomes more and more polemical, due to a satire against representatives of power, both in the public sphere and in the private domain of family and marriage relationships. Most of the plays represented in the theater of the Hôtel de Bourgogne, and later published in Evaristo Gherardi recueil Le Théâtre Italien (1700), stage transgressive behaviours typical of the coquetry phenomenon, by feminine characters at war against father and husband autority. After several warnings, this theater is closed at the behest of king Louis XIV, and the actors are forbidden from playing in Paris (1697). To what extent can the staging of such scandalous behaviours central to these comedies, be considered a crucial factor leading to the closing of the Comédie-Italienne ?

International audience; This paper surveys 27 published studies exploring bias in the evaluation of computational creativity. These studies look specifically at the involvement of AI, in generating music, images and graphics, poetry, and news articles. While some have found evidence of bias (43%), others find no bias (27%), or show modulation of bias through socio-cultural factors (30%) resulting in a lack of consensus on this issue. We argue for the importance of taking into account socio-cultural context when considering such biases in these creative pursuits. What styles do the artefacts belong to? Who are the participants involved in the study, and what are their relationships to the styles at hand? We discuss the implications of such considerations for future research in computational creativity. We propose some safeguards when conducting a study on bias in the evaluation of computational creativity, and propose directions to study more specifically when, and with whom it can be observed.

International audience; A common way to consider rhythmic complexity is to compute it locally by studying the composition of rhythmic patterns. Many complexity measures have been proposed in the literature [Thul2008] and correlated with human judgment [Beltran2015]. But the perception of the rhythmic complexity of an entire piece of music can depend on more global parameters such as the number of rhythmic patterns used over time, the similarity between the different rhythmic patterns used, the repetition of patterns, their periodicity, the level of novelty throughout the piece, the meter, the tempo...We propose here to consider those characteristics to compute rhythmic complexity in symbolic music pieces at several scales: low level (bar wide), middle level (groups of bars) and high level (piece wide). We present first experiments on symbolic music datasets to study the progression of rhythmic complexity throughout the pieces. This approach can be used to select pieces with particular rhythmic properties in existing corpora, for example in a music therapy context or for educational purposes. International audience; This paper proposes to examine specific case examples of the modalities of staging of Odissi dance performances in the early 2020ies in the Indian State Odisha. This dance practice, officially viewed by the Indian government as constituting heritage, is evolving in a context marked by the economic growth of the past two decades, but also, most notably, the galloping urban expansion of the city of Bhubaneswar - the capital of the Indian State Odisha - and a variety of social as well as political characteristics associated with uncertainty, that mark lives of individuals in present day India.When looking at dance, it is common to place the focus on the performer's body. However, Andrée Grau remarked that to make sense of dance practices, "one needs to look beyond the dancer's body, its immediate space, and its musical accompaniment" (2003 : 173). It is conventional in Odisha to associate certain practices - such as the holding of meetings before performances, the distribution of gifts or certificates - with dance performances. What are these practices? What is at stake through their enactment? What particularities do they present in the early 2020ies? Do the topics that come up through these actions which are publicly presented relate to the aesthetic aspects of performances, or to other aspects? What do they reveal on the place of dance practice in Odisha today? On the social networks Odissi dancers are evolving in? On the economic opportunities and constraints they are facing?

International audience; The Corsica Sud-Archives project [CO S-A] explore the post-archiving life of archives. Often, once archives are classified, stored, or made available online, their significance diminishes. What happens to archives after they have been archived? In the 1990s, Derrida wrote that archives are in a constant struggle with themselves. Thus, the [CO S-A] project sought to transform this risk into a compelling question: What can archival updates contribute to the archive?Since the late twentieth century, there has been a growing interest in archives from institutional (Farge, 1989; Clavert & Muller, 2017), epistemological (Derrida, 1995), and ethical (Zetlyn, 2022) perspectives. The "documental turn" (Ketelaar, 2006; Mechoulan, 2011; Lemay & Klein, 2012; Leibovici, 2020) or the exploration of documents (Caillet & Pouillaude, 2017) has highlighted the necessity of contemplating new methods for engaging with archives and data, particularly through artistic approaches. It has also shed light on the dynamics of circulation, accumulation, and extraction that underlie their creation.If the preservation of archives often leads to a reduction in their usage, their artistic and civic use (known as "archival use") can revitalize the life cycle of the archives, generate new knowledge, and reshape our shared heritage (Lemay & Klein, 2012). In this context, [CO S-A] serves as a space that challenges our unexplored thoughts and collective memories, while bridging different territories.[CO S-A] functions as a case study, specifically focusing on the Repertorium VOCE, one of the largest online sound archives dedicated primarily to Corsican music. The project encompasses three main axes of research, creation, and action, each with the objective of revitalizing the collection in various ways and integrating it into our present lives.The first axis involves the artistic creation process, undertaken by three artists who utilize the Repertorium archives. Their approach involves "working" with the archives, reimagining, diverting, and improvising upon them.The second axis entails an archival expertise of the Repertorium, with the aim of developing a conservation and heritage valorization policy for the long term. This effort is carried out in collaboration with the Museum of Corsica (Territorial Collectivity of Corsica), the M3C Media Library (UMR LISA), and the CNCM Voce.The third axis focuses on local engagement with the residents and users of the village. It involves promotional activities targeted at a wider audience and raising awareness of the importance of listening through a Soundwalk in the village of Pigna in February 2023.These three axes constitute an exploratory and unprecedented protocol. This protocol will be extended in various ways to Mediterranean island territories. Additionally, this protocol will be the subject of a methodological innovation filing. Indeed, it is the result of an interdisciplinary approach that combines contributions from historical sciences, musicology, sound arts, and artistic creation.; Le projet [CO S-A] Corsica Sud-Archives a comme objectif de réfléchir à la vie de l’archive après sa mise en archive. Cette vie s’amenuise souvent une fois que l’archive est classée, mise en « boite » ou désormais « mise en ligne ». Qu’advient-il de l’archive une fois qu’elle est archivée ? L’archive lutte toujours contre elle-même écrivait Derrida dans les années 1990. Alors, au risque de sa décontextualisation, le projet [CO S-A] a souhaité transformer ce risque en une problématique forte : que peuvent les réactualisations de l’archive pour l’archive ? Un intérêt grandissant pour la question des archives d’un point de vue institutionnel (Farge, 1989 ; Clavert & Muller, 2017) mais aussi épistémologique (Derrida, 1995) et éthique (Zetlyn, 2022) a progressivement vu le jour depuis la fin du XXe siècle. Le « tournant documental » (Ketelaar, 2006 ; Mechoulan, 2011 ; Lemay & Klein, 2012 ; Leibovici, 2020) ou documentaire (Caillet & Pouillaude, 2017) a montré la nécessité de réfléchir à de nouveaux modes d’exploration des archives et données culturelles (notamment via les usages artistiques) ainsi qu'aux dynamiques de circulation, d'accumulation et d'extraction sous-jacentes à leur création. Si la conservation des archives est souvent le temps de l’amenuisement de leurs usages, leur exploitation artistique et citoyenne (Archival use) permet de relancer le cycle de la vie de l’archive (Lemay & Klein, 2012), de créer de nouvelles connaissances et de repenser le patrimoine commun. C’est ainsi qu’il faut comprendre [CO S-A] comme un espace qui interroge nos impensés, nos mémoires communes et qui trace des ponts et des passerelles entre les territoires. [CO S-A] est en quelque sorte une étude de cas. Ce cas, c’est le Repertorium VOCE, l’un des plus grands fond d’archives en ligne dédié, principalement, aux musiques corses. Trois axes de recherche, de création mais aussi d’action constituent le projet. Chacun des axes a eu comme objectif de réactualiser ce fonds de différentes manières, pour tenter d’assurer la longévité de sa vie passée, et de l’inscrire dans nos vies actuelles. Le 1er axe a consisté en un travail de création musicale, réalisé par trois artistes et basé sur le réemploi des archives issues du Repertorium. Il s’agissait de « travailler » les archives, de les réécrire, de les détourner, de les réinterpréter et de les improviser.Le 2e axe a accompli une expertise archivistique du Repertorium afin d’établir une politique de conservation et de valorisation du patrimoine à moyen et long terme, en relation avec le Musée de la Corse (Collectivité territoriale de Corse), la Médiathèque M3C (UMR LISA) et le CNCM Voce.Le 3e axe a été une action locale auprès des habitants et des usagers du village. Une action de valorisation auprès d’un public élargi, une sensibilisation à l’écoute sous la forme d’une balade sonore que nous avons installée dans le village de Pigna en février 2023. Ces trois axes constituent un protocole exploratoire, inédit. Protocole que nous allons prolonger de différentes façons sur les territoires insulaires méditerranéens. Ce protocole va par ailleurs faire l’objet d’un dépôt d’invention méthodologique. En effet, il est aussi le fruit d’une logique interdisciplinaire qui croise les apports des sciences historiques, avec la musicologie, les arts sonores et la création artistique.

International audience; This is the chapter 7 of the first edited volume entirely devoted to cognitive approaches to ancient Greek tragedy (in print, forthcoming in 2023). This chapter aims to refine the understanding of the cognitive contribution of some famous objects of Greek tragedy by engaging Lambros Malafouris’ notion of the ‘cognitive life of things’ whereby material objects are seen as an intrinsic part of humans’ cognitive processes. In Greek tragedy, characters indeed repeatedly invest lifeless objects with a mind (the case studies are the house in the Oresteia, the recognition tokens in Choephori, the bow in Herakles and Philoctetes). However, it is argued, this investment is a conscious form of make-believe: the characters know that they are engaging in a fiction when they momentarily envisage things as human ‘minds on stage,’ so as to manage solitary and desperate situations. Greek tragedy therefore allows in-depth analysis of the fictional and affective dimension of the ‘cognitive life of things.’ The chapter ends therefore by arguing for the relevance of work on anthropomorphism – defined as part of the consoling and adaptive mechanisms of the human mind – in developmental and social psychology.; Il s’agit du chapitre 7 du premier ouvrage collectif sur les approches cognitives de la tragédie grecque (à paraître en 2023). Ma contribution étudie les manières selon lesquelles certains objets célèbres de la tragédie grecque sont les supports des opérations cognitives menées par les personnages. Le cadre théorique de référence est celui de la « vie cognitive des choses « ("cognitive life of things") de Lambros Malafouris, selon lequel les objets matériels sont considérés comme une partie intrinsèque des processus cognitifs des humains. Dans la tragédie grecque, les personnages investissent à plusieurs reprises des objets inanimés d’un esprit (la maison dans l’Orestie, les objets de reconnaissance dans les Choéphores, l’arc dans Héraclès d’Euripide et Philoctète de Sophocle). Cependant, je montre que cette collaboration cognitive avec les objets se fait sur le mode contrefactuel : les personnages savent qu’ils s’engagent dans une fiction lorsqu’ils envisagent momentanément les objets comme possédant une forme d’esprit, dans des situations de solitude et de désespoir. La tragédie grecque permet donc une analyse approfondie de la dimension fictionnelle et affective de la « vie cognitive des choses ». Le chapitre conclut en établissant une relation avec des travaux actuels sur l’anthropomorphisme - défini comme faisant partie des mécanismes de consolation et d’adaptation de l’esprit humain - en psychologie du développement et psychologie sociale.

Les Doctoriales de l’Europe médiane, de l’espace russe et (post)soviétique, organisées par le Centre de recherche Europes-Eurasie (CREE) en juin 2021, ont réuni des doctorants et jeunes chercheurs autour du thème des archives, considérées à la fois comme outil et objet de recherche. Cette thématique, qui recouvre plusieurs disciplines et concerne plusieurs étapes de l’élaboration d’une thèse, a permis d’enclencher une réflexion fructueuse des participants sur leurs propres pratiques de recherche. Ayant pour objectif de mettre en valeur les travaux de jeunes chercheurs francophones qui contribuent à découvrir des archives inédites, mais aussi à renouveler le regard porté sur des documents déjà étudiés, cette publication entend également contribuer aux études interdisciplinaires des archives et de leurs usages dans les espaces d’Europe centrale et orientale et de l’ex-URSS.

This paper offers a study of the way Soviet authorities’ discourses on music were received in France. The post-war period is very interesting in many aspects. The political landscape changed following Zhdanov and Stalin’s deaths, and two decrees regarding music production were published in 1948 and 1958. The press bulletins of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as the journalistic and intellectual production with scholarly pretensions of the PCF inform us about the reception of Soviet music in the French public space. We understand the evolution of censorship in the USSR thanks to the discourse in France about the professional Soviet musician and about the Soviet opera. Since censorship in the USSR was not always controlled, it is appropriate to question the role of Soviet and French communist intellectuals. As such, we study socialist realism in music, but also the conflicts that the enforcement of such ideological principles produces. Moreover, although French sympathizers covered Soviet musical news extensively, we observe divergences of opinion resulting from the diversity of the editorial frameworks., Cet article étudie la réception en France des discours des autorités soviétiques sur la musique. La période de l’après-guerre est intéressante à plus d’un titre. Le paysage politique évolue avec les décès de Jdanov et Staline et deux décrets relatifs à la production musicale sont publiés en 1948 et 1958. Les bulletins de presse du ministère des Affaires étrangères et la production journalistique et intellectuelle à prétention savante du PCF sont des indicateurs de la réception de la musique soviétique dans l’espace public français. Nous apprécions l’évolution de la censure en URSS grâce aux discours en France sur le musicien professionnel et l’opéra soviétiques. La censure en URSS n’ayant pas toujours été maîtrisée, il convient de questionner le rôle des intellectuels communistes soviétiques et français. Nous appréhendons ainsi le réalisme socialiste en musique, mais aussi les désaccords que produit l’application de tels principes idéologiques. Bien que les sympathisants français traitent abondamment les actualités musicales soviétiques, on est amené à observer des divergences d’opinion, résultats de la diversité des cadres éditoriaux.

This article focuses on the training of music therapists, that is to say future professionals in music medicine, in private practice or in institutions. First, the text questions the foundations of the discipline: what do we call music therapy? is music therapy sound therapy? can music be considered independently of dance? is music therapy an art therapy? Secondly, it considers the skills necessary for the training of music therapists, ultimately asking the question of whether training would not benefit from addressing mental health professionals rather than all-comers students.; Cet article s'intéresse à la formation des musicothérapeutes, c'est-à-dire des futurs professionnels en médecine musicale, en cabinet privé ou en institutions. Dans un premier temps, le texte interroge les fondements de la discipline : qu'appelle-ton musicothérapie ? la musicothérapie est-elle une sono-thérapie ? la musique peut-elle être considérée indépendamment de la danse ? la musicothérapie est-elle une art-thérapie ? Dans un second temps, il envisage les compétences nécessaires à la formation du musicothérapeute, en posant au bout du compte la question de savoir si les formations ne gagneraient pas à s'adresser à des professionnels de la santé mentale plutôt qu'à des étudiants tout-venant.

International audience; Comment interagir avec les sons lorsque l'on n'est pas musicien•ne ? Comment interagir avec des sons qui ne sont pas produits par des instruments lorsque l'on est musicien•ne ? Comment chanter comme un oiseau ? Dans cette performance, nous allons proposer au public de "composer" avec des sons de canaris. Cela ne va pas être des "échantillons" (samples en Anglais) de sons de canaris, mais des sons générées par apprentissage artificiel. Un Réseau Génératif Antagoniste (GAN en anglais) va permettre au public d'explorer un espace de sons continu, et ainsi de générer une infinité de syllabes de canaris. Deux musiciens seront présents pour accompagner les utilisateurs générant des rythmes à base de ces générations : ces acteurs-musiciens seront des (drôles) "objets" de l'interaction.

Porté par Youssra Mansar, doctorante en deuxième année de thèse à Aix-Marseille Université, Laboratoire d’Études en Sciences des Arts (LESA, EA 3274), dirigé par deux chercheurs de l’université d’Aix-Marseille, Louis Dieuzayde, Maître de conférences en esthétique théâtrale, et Julien Serres, Maître de conférences HDR en robotique bio-inspirée, ce projet se fonde sur un processus d’expérimentation qui sera finalisé par une création diffusée à son terme sur le plateau du Théâtre Antoine Vitez à Aix-en-Provence. Un surprenant mouvement de curiosité étayé par les progrès de la robotique a permis d’accélérer le développement de robots souvent intriguant, parfois inquiétants, mais surtout vecteurs d’enchantement et d’interaction avec ses homologues humains [1]. Les progrès scientifiques permettent aujourd’hui de robotiser de mini-dirigeables pouvant interagir avec l’Homme [2, 3, 4]. Le projet Novabot met en interaction un acteur et un mini-dirigeable robotisé, partiellement déjà conçu, mais appelé à être développé dans ses capacités de mouvement et de captation filmique de manière complètement automatisée [5]. L’acteur au travail serait mis sous l’observation de l’œil de la caméra de Novabot qui se déplacerait avec lui en maintenant toujours la même distance. Novabot espionnerait ainsi certains éléments généralement peu perceptibles du corps de l’acteur (œil, main, bouche, nuque…) et projetterait sur des écrans installés sur la scène un montage instantané de ces images capturées. Un tel dispositif de captation permettrait de rendre visibles certains aspects de la fabrique du jeu de l’acteur notamment au travers de ses réactions corporelles que le spectateur n’est naturellement pas appareillé à percevoir. Notre recherche consistera donc à explorer la manière dont un drone peut venir augmenter la perception de la performance scénique de l’acteur en opérant une qualité de filmage inédite, retransmise en direct, qui la fragmente, la dissocie, focalisant l’attention sur des détailshabituellement indétectés. Il s’agira d’examiner de manière presque « spectrographique » la surface du corps pour surprendre les mécanismes qui s’y produisent au contact d’un texte, d’appréhender le processus altérant de la dynamique d’une langue poétique au sein d’un corps mouvant qui l’énonce et qui se phénoménalise à son contact. Le texte investi dans ce projet résulte d’un montage de fragments de l’œuvre de Valère Novarina, auteur de théâtre contemporain dont l’oeuvre dynamite et régénère la langue tout en soumettant l’acteur à l’exploit de son énonciation [6]. Louis Jouvet définit le jeu comme un « exercice de déséquilibre de soi » et, en effet, chaque langue poétique déforme et reforme le corps en introduisant un déséquilibre qui vise un nouvel équilibre spécifique à son plan d’action : elle produit un processus continu et sous-jacent de vacillement, de relâchement, d’inflexion, de torsion, de reconfiguration et de transformation. Le corps est en quelque sorte déconstruit afin d’être ensuite recréé selon l’action poétique de la langue qui impulse l’action de jouer. Novabot aura ainsi pour mission de guetter au plus près de l’acteur les indices par lesquels il dévoile le cheminement intérieur de son travail. L’enjeu sera de créer ainsi une sorte d’étude phénoménologique du processus de jeu de l’acteur investi au présent de l’acte d’énonciation. Cette expérimentation sera à même de fournir un matériel de données inédit permettant l’étude des mécanismes de l’énonciation au sein d’un corps en jeu, approfondissant de ce point de vue l’approche théorique de l’acteur. Fragmenter, focaliser et augmenter la perception de la présence actorale auprès du public sera en outre susceptible de créer une immersion de chaque spectateur dans le cœur du procès de fabrication de l’acteur [7].

Since the end of the 1960's both musicologists and musicians have made a significant contribution towards the revival of ancient instruments and repertoire, as well as towards the reconstruction of interpretative style. The interesting point here is that one single repertoire is played in different ways, on different instruments. This peculiarity in the history of interpretation provides an unique opportunity to study the effects of various constraints on musical performance. According to K. Newell's (1986) definition of action as emerging from the interaction between organism, environment and task, music performance may be viewed as resulting from the interplay between performer, interpretative tradition, instrument and musical work. This unique situation is also a way to assess the lag between musical plans (projects) and their performance (achievement).

This work is based on the experience of the Dance and Writing Workshops, which was created out of a concern to offer a space for enunciation and personal exploration through a creative experience to people who may not necessarily be involved in « professional » dance. The workshop is a dispositif built from some tools and formats of dance, writing and audiovisual composition that underline the importance of subjectivity, singularity, and the democratisation of creation (such as improvisation and the use of dance scores, automatic writing, microfiction, art manifesto and videodance). We propose the binomial dance-writing as a creative practice that articulates movement and word, so that dances and texts are produced in a continuous back-and-forth between these two activities, which opens a space of congruence that sustains the act of self-enunciation. The creative experience seeks to promote a process of individuation, according to Bernard Stiegler's postulates, in which the presence of the « other » is essential for self-recognition, which is why the formation of a collectivity that welcomes and enriches this process from the playful disposition of all those involved is highlighted. Our research weaves the practice of the workshop with the theoretical reflections that accompany it. We are committed to a practice that echoes the pedagogy of Paulo Freire and the ethics of care developed by Joan Tronto. Some artistic practices that approach the autobiographical terrain and collective creation are also revisited. The implications of the 'amateur' field and the ethical, aesthetic, and political debates that this entails are discussed.; Le présent travail a été conçu à partir de l'expérience des Ateliers de Danse et écriture, qui répond au souhait d'offrir un espace d'énonciation et d'exploration personnelle à travers une expérience créative à des personnes qui ne se consacrent pas forcément à la danse de manière « professionnelle ». L'atelier est un dispositif construit à partir de certains outils et formats de danse, d'écriture et de composition audiovisuelle qui soulignent l'importance de la subjectivité, de la singularité et de la démocratisation de la création (comme l'improvisation et l'utilisation de partitions de danse, l'écriture automatique, la microfiction, le manifeste et la vidéodanse). Nous proposons le binôme danse-écriture comme une pratique créative qui articule mouvement et parole, de sorte que les danses et les textes sont produits dans un va-et-vient continu entre ces deux activités, ce qui ouvre un espace de congruence qui soutient l'acte d'auto-énonciation. After the progressive renewal of practices linked to digital technology in the human and social sciences, the sound archive benefits from a second wind, an almost unexpected rebound that questions its "life" at the heart of contemporary societies in the Mediterranean area. At the same time as they make up for a primordial function of conservation through research, the processes of transmission and sound creation manage to institute this archive of the sensitive as a "living" archive. This observation gives rise to a certain number of debates:To what extent, as posed for example by the SONNISULA or IMAPI projects, are the principles of archiving (conservation, citability, interoperability, FAIR principles, etc.) able to enter into a dialogue with contemporary artistic creation that transforms or displaces traditions in practices that are sometimes distant? How can intangible heritage be enhanced through scientific research and for the general public, in particular by confronting it with sound and ecological practices?This second cycle of seminars is once again devoted to Digital Humanities. International audience; Le manuscrit autographe des Paladins, comédie-ballet créée le 12 février 1760 à l’Académie royale de musique, est à ce jour le plus important document conservé de la main de Jean-Philippe Rameau.Ce document permet de rappeler le statut particulier des sources musicales autographes du XVIIIe siècle en France et en particulier celles de Rameau. Il met également en lumière le processus de fabrication d’un spectacle d’opéra dans la France du XVIIIe siècle et nous dévoile certains processus compositionnels de Rameau.

La nature joue un rôle fondamental dans la pensée et la musique de Xenakis. Nous pouvons distinguer trois niveaux. 1. Le premier concerne les références de Xenakis aux sciences. Nous pourrions distinguer entre les références aux mathématiques et celles aux sciences de la nature. Tandis qu’avec les premières, il s’agit de « fonder » la musique, ce qui implique une opération d’abstraction, les secondes, à travers l’utilisation de modèles, entraînent un processus de transfert analogique. 2. Dans le second niveau, nous examinerons le type de nature que convoque Xenakis, pour constater que c’est la nature de la science moderne – celle des phénomènes chaotiques –, ce qui correspond à sa recherche dionysiaque d’une fusion. 3. Avec ce dernier niveau, recherchant les références sensibles et immédiates de Xenakis à des phénomènes naturels (chants de cigales, tempêtes…), nous feront l’hypothèse qu’elles ne comprennent pas selon l’esthétique classique de la représentation, mais qu’elles appartiennent déjà à une musique environnementale.

International audience; Ce chapitre propose d’interroger la créativité de professeurs de musique et de design, en regardant deux situations spécifiques d’enseignement et d’apprentissage. Après avoir défini les enjeux didactiques et pédagogiques, la notion d’épistémologie pratique est questionnée afin de saisir les savoirs et savoir-faire spécifiques aux enseignements artistiques. Les fonctions des gestes, postures ou mouvements, et les instruments et outils impliqués dans cette transmission sont étudiés. Il ne s’agit pas de rendre compte de ce qu’il se passe dans le temps et l’espace du cours mais de questionner les croyances, les valeurs et conceptions qui facilitent ou empêchent la transmission d’un savoir ou d’un savoir-faire.Si on tente de caractériser ce qui facilite, favorise, contrarie ou rend l’activité de l’enseignant plus ou moins créative, alors l’analyse des gestes impliqués dans cette activité permet de les catégoriser et d’observer comment et dans quel but ils se déploient. Sont-ils facilitateurs d’apprentissages ? Sont-ils la manifestation d’une créativité pédagogique ? Peuvent-ils être des obstacles ?L’approche exploratoire et qualitative décrite ici, s’appuie sur les gestes de deux enseignants confrontés à des contraintes liées à des situations d’enseignement. Cette approche repose sur deux courts extraits de séances observées et sur l’analyse systématique catégorisant des gestes d’enseignement. Elle pose aussi les jalons d’une étude plus approfondie à venir sur les gestes créatifs dans les enseignements artistiques. Programme scientifique - Avignon Université; 1. Une problématique : le vivant en tension |Le vivant nous interroge dans sa tension permanente avec les dynamiques culturelles, politiques, artistiques, économiques et technologiques qui le traversent. Constamment soumis à de nombreuses pressions externes qui peuvent le déformer, le vivant en tension peut être admis comme un mouvement perpétuel de résistance et de négociation, où sa perception et son rôle dans la société sont constamment redéfinis. En conséquence, la culture politique des corps enveloppe les chairs organiques, lunettes performatives et altérantes d’une dimension vivante à dévoiler. Dans un monde de plus en plus numérisé et rationalisé, l’intersection entre la création et le corps vivant donne les moyens d’étudier les enjeux de la communication humaine. Cette rencontre peut nous aider à mieux comprendre les enjeux de domination, transformation et réduction de l’organisme. Pour ce faire, nous avons investi le champ de la recherche-création, en invitant les chercheurs de diverses disciplines et objets de recherche à apporter leur contribution à cette problématique complexe. Des expressions classiques de l’écriture et du langage aux outils de réalité virtuelle, nous explorons aussi bien les nouvelles formes de pédagogie, que les expériences et représentations du vivant. Ce projet collectif permet ainsi de développer une meilleure compréhension de cette tension multifactorielle.2. Une méthodologie : la recherche-création |Notre pratique de la recherche-création vise à mêler recherche et création au sein d’un même processus méthodologique à l’université. La recherche-création fabrique des liens entre la création scientifique et artistique de manière à proposer une exploration organique de notre problématique du “vivant en tension”. Ce cadre de travail articule état de l’art, analyse de corpus et enquête anthropologique à une pratique créative qui s’incarne dans un organisme (chercheur, doctorant, étudiant). Dès lors, une réflexion sur les écritures sensibles peut s’opérer, tout comme d’autres projets scientifiques engagés dans une approche affective et singulière. La recherche-création permet également de répondre aux enjeux contemporains à travers plusieurs leviers pédagogiques : - la création comme initiation à la recherche ;- la création comme transmission des connaissances ;- la recherche-création comme méthode qualitative ;- la recherche-création comme médiation des univers artistiques et culturels.Notre approche a déjà fait l’objet de publications (Renucci et Galli, 2022 ; Galli et Rivière, 2022 ; Galli, 2021) qui ont permis de nourrir la réflexion sur l’offre de formation en SIC du Master Culture et Communication d’Avignon Université : nouveau module disponible en “recherche-création numérique” depuis 2022. 3. Macé-Barbier, D. Galli, G. Rivière) aborde la question des écritures du vivant auprès d’étudiants de différentes promotions de master (théâtre et communication), et avec le soutien d’artistes et d’établissements culturels ;- Le séminaire “Corps vivants et création” (V. Bénéï, D. Galli, G. Rivière, P. Hert) met en place une série d’expérimentations scientifiques dans le cadre de la recherche-création à partir du mouvement et de l’exploration des corps vivants. Ce séminaire implique Avignon Université, l’EHESS et Aix-Marseille Université ;- Le séminaire “Création-Médiation et réalité virtuelle” (C. Garson, D. Galli, G. Rivière) vise à interroger les applications vivantes de la réalité virtuelle dans les champs de l’enseignement et de la création numérique ;- Le séminaire “Création scientifique et communication” (F. Renucci, D. Galli, G. Rivière) interroge les frontières épistémologiques des processus de création à l’université. International audience; In 1670, the marriage between Giovanni Battista Rospigliosi, nephew of Pope Clemente IX, and Maria Camilla Pallavicini, of Genoese origin, ratified the creation of a new dynasty: the house of Rospigliosi-Pallavicini. Both husband and wife were descended from non-Roman families; together they worked hard to consolidate their social advancement. Both were cultured, avid art collectors and music patrons; each cultivated individual interests and tastes. The Duchess Rospigliosi, in particular, made a name for herself at the beginning of the 1690s through the promotion of a series of operas in the theatre of the Palazzo al Quirinale, where the new family resided. This essay analyses various types of sources, such as chronicles, avvisi (manuscript newsletters), librettos, and celebratory poems related to these events, with two main goals: to reconstruct the network of literati, artists, and musicians who gravitated around the Rospigliosi, and to uncover the ways in which the Duchess successfully made herself visible on the Roman ‘stage’ at the end of the seventeenth century.

International audience; Throughout history, there has consistently existed a period of time and spatial separation between the creation of new knowledge and technology and their adaptation for widespread implementation. The article delves into how musicology and computational music research interact and exchange their approaches. Specifically, it focuses on a study of ten years' worth of papers from the International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) from 2012 to 2021. Over 1000 citations of ISMIR papers were reviewed, and out of these, 51 later works published in musicological venues drew from the findings of 28 ISMIR papers. Final results reveal that most contributions from ISMIR rarely make their way to musicology or humanities. In spite of this, the paper highlights four examples of successful knowledge transfers between the fields and discusses best practices for collaborations while addressing potential causes for such disparities. In the epilogue, we address the interlaced origins of the problem as stemming from new media or language, institutional restrictions, and the inability to engage in multidisciplinary communication.

International audience; Learning to write music in the staff notation used in Western classical music is part of the musician’s training. However, writing music by hand is rarely taught formally, and many musicians are not aware of the characteristics of their musical handwriting. As with any symbolic expression, musical handwriting is related to the underlying cognition of the musical structures being depicted. Trained musicians read, think, and play music with high-level structures in mind. It seems natural that they would also write music by hand with these structures in mind. Moreover, improving our understanding of handwriting may help to improve both optical music recognition (OMR) and music notation and composition interfaces. We investigated associations between music training and experience and the way people write music by hand. We made video-recordings of participants’ hands while they were copying or freely writing music and analysed the sequence in which they wrote the elements contained in the musical score. The results confirmed that experienced musicians wrote faster than beginners, that they were more likely to write chords from bottom to top, and that they tended to write the note-heads first, in a flowing fashion, and only afterwards use stems and beams to emphasize grouping, and add expressive markings.

Since its conception, the computer has found applications to accompany human creativity. Today, the debate about computers and creativity involves several challenges, such as understanding human creativity, modeling the creative process, and programming the computer to exhibit behavior that appears to be creative to some extent. In this paper, we are interested in how the computer can be used as a tool to promote creativity in a musical composition. We automatically extracted the brightness curve from a silent movie and then used it to compose a piece of music to accompany the movie. We extracted several parameters from the brightness curve, and applied compositional rules from these parameters to write the instrumental music for the film. The final composition has a synchronicity and aesthetic fit with the film that are surprising. This compositional process also allowed for a degree of aesthetic freedom that would otherwise have been impossible., in French language

International audience; Tablature notation is widely used in popular music to transcribe and share guitar musical content. As a complement to standard score notation, tablatures transcribe performance gesture information including finger positions and a variety of guitar-specific playing techniques such as slides, hammer-on/pull-off or bends.This paper focuses on bends, which enable to progressively shift the pitch of a note, therefore circumventing physical limitations of the discrete fretted fingerboard. In this paper, we propose a set of 25 high-level features, computed for each note of the tablature, to study how bend occurrences can be predicted from their past and future short-term context. Experiments are performed on a corpus of 932 lead guitar tablatures of popular music and show that a decision tree successfully predicts bend occurrences with an F1 score of 0.71 anda limited amount of false positive predictions, demonstrating promising applications to assist the arrangement of non-guitar music into guitar tablatures.

International audience; This is chapter 10 of an edited volume that proposes innovative methodologies for the study of psychology in ancient worlds, one of the first of its kind (and which is based on a conference held in Leiden in December 2018). I focus on the ways in which fictional characters from Greek tragedy devise counterfactual fictions for psychological benefit. Developing a fiction inside a fiction, a play-within-a-play, is a metatheatrical modality that speaks to the defining features and potentialities of theatrical art. My perspective, however, is not to study the metatheatricality of Greek tragedy for its own sake, but rather to examine if, how, and to what extent the tragic plays demonstrate an awareness of the impact of imaginary, enacted fiction in dealing with individual or collective issues (related to, for instance, identity, ethics, and political or social organization). Theatrical playing is a practice based on play, on performing ‘as-if’ and ‘other than’. As such, it offers potential for self-transformation, repurposing, overcoming obstacles by sparking new solutions. I am interested in tracking early evidence of this way of thinking at the level of the characters of ancient Greek tragedy. My two case studies are Heracles and Ion, two tragedies produced by Euripides in a short span of time, between 416 and 412 BCE. Two plays where, I argue, playing is dramatized in relation with self-realization: it is through play, and specifically playing with objects and role-playing, that characters are shown in their attempts to discover their real self or to refashion it.; Il s’agit d’une contribution (chapitre 10) à l’un des premiers volumes collectifs anglo-saxons qui propose des méthodologies innovantes pour l’étude de la psychologie dans les mondes anciens. Je m’intéresse à la manière dont les personnages fictifs de la tragédie grecque conçoivent des fictions contrefactuelles pour en tirer un bénéfice psychologique. L’élaboration d’une fiction à l’intérieur d’une fiction, d’une pièce dans une pièce, est une modalité métathéâtrale. Ma perspective, cependant, n’est pas d’étudier la métathéâtralité de la tragédie grecque en elle-même, mais plutôt la manière dont certaines tragédies interrogent les effets de la fiction imaginaire dans la confrontation à certains questionnements identitaires, éthiques ou politiques, individuels ou collectifs. Le cadre théorique discuté est celui de la théorie du jeu chez Vygotsky et du psychodrame de Moreno. Tous deux démontrent que le jeu théâtral offre un potentiel d’auto-transformation, de dépassement des obstacles par l’émergence de solutions facilitées par la dimension ludique et contrefactuelle. Je démontre que dans l’Héraclès et l’Ion d’Euripide, les personnages principaux passent par des formes de jeux conscients et inconscients pour découvrir ou redéfinir leur identité de personnages.
