Vapor–Liquid Equilibria (VLE) of hydrogen (H2) and aqueous electrolyte (KOH and NaCl) solutions are central to numerous industrial applications such as alkaline electrolysis and underground hydrogen storage. Continuous fractional component Monte Carlo simulations are performed to compute the VLE of H2 and aqueous electrolyte solutions at 298–423 K, 10–400 bar, 0–8 mol KOH/kg water, and 0–6 mol NaCl/kg water. The densities and activities of water in aqueous KOH and NaCl solutions are accurately modeled (within 2% deviation from experiments) using the non-polarizable Madrid-2019 Na+/Cl− ion force fields for NaCl and the Madrid-Transport K+ and Delft Force Field of OH− for KOH, combined with the TIP4P/2005 water force field. A free energy correction (independent of pressure, salt type, and salt molality) is applied to the computed infinite dilution excess chemical potentials of H2 and water, resulting in accurate predictions (within 5% of experiments) for the solubilities of H2 in water and the saturated vapor pressures of water for a temperature range of 298–363 K. The compositions of water and H2 are computed using an iterative scheme from the liquid phase excess chemical potentials and densities, in which the gas phase fugacities are computed using the GERG-2008 equation of state. For the first time, the VLE of H2 and aqueous KOH/NaCl systems are accurately captured with respect to experiments (i.e., for both the liquid and gas phase compositions) without compromising the liquid phase properties or performing any refitting of force fields. Stem water content serves as a pivotal parameter that reflects the plant vitality and maintains their internal water balance. Given the insufficient comprehension regarding the stem water content characteristics and its influencing factors during different stages of the overwintering period, the study focused on Acer truncatum Bunge and developed an Internet of Things (IoT)-based ecological information monitoring system. The system incorporated a proprietary stem water content sensor, allowing non-invasive, in-situ and real time acquisition of stem water content while monitoring diverse environmental parameters. We conducted a detailed elucidation of stem water content variation characteristics and their responses to diverse environmental factors. The results showed: (1) During the overwintering period, stem water content exhibited diurnal variations characterized by " daytime ascent and nighttime descent" across the three stages, exhibiting differences in the moment when the stem water content reaches extremal values and daily fluctuations ranges. Stem water content exhibited minimal fluctuations during deciduous and bud-breaking stages but experienced significant freezing-thawing alternations during the dormant stage, leading to an increased daily fluctuation range. (2) The Pearson correlation coefficients between environmental parameters and stem water content varied dynamically across stages. Path analysis revealed that during the deciduous stage, stem temperature and saturation vapor pressure deficit were dominant factors influencing stem water content; during dormant stage, air temperature and saturation vapor pressure deficit directly impacted stem water content; during the bud-breaking stage, the primary parameters affecting stem water content were saturation vapor pressure deficit and stem temperature. The study provides valuable insights into unveiling the water transport patterns within tree stems tissue and their environmental adaptation mechanisms during the overwintering period, aiding in the scientific development of winter management strategies to protect trees from severe cold and freezing damage, while fostering healthy growth in the subsequent year. BACKGROUND: Whiteflies are major pests in agriculture, causing damage to crops and transmitting plant viruses. Using Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) as semiochemicals offers a sustainable approach for combating whiteflies. One such group of compounds, represented by β‐ionone, has been found to possess repellent/attractant properties. To further explore the behavioral effects of these compounds on whiteflies, we selected five natural ionone compounds and synthesized six novel analogues to examine the impact of structural variations on whitefly behavior. RESULTS: Our results demonstrated that β‐ionone and its analogues have a significant impact on the behavior of whiteflies. Among them, 0.01% pseudo ionone solution exhibited an attractant effect on whiteflies. Notably, the application of 1% β‐ionone and 0.1% β‐ionol solution demonstrated a notable repellent effect and oviposition deterrent effect on whitefly. We also found that the novel ionone analogue (±)1A exhibited a strong repellent effect. Both β‐ionol and compound (±)1A possess high logP values and low saturation vapor pressures, which contribute to enhanced lipophilicity, making them more likely to penetrate insect antennae and prolong their presence in the air. CONCLUSION: The newly discovered ionone analogue (±)1A and β‐ionol exhibit improved repellent effects, while pseudo ionone shows an attractant effect. These three compounds hold promising potential for development as novel biological control agents. Our work highlights the efficacy of VOCs as a protection method against whiteflies. In the present paper, we have conducted a comprehensive analysis of vapor pressures of both saturated and unsaturated solutions, alongside a study of evaporation using synthetic and natural fabrics for industrial applications in brackish water treatment under zero liquid discharge (ZLD) philosophy. By determining the vapor pressures of saturated solutions, we obtained results consistent with those of other researchers, extending the range of tested temperatures from 1 to 50 °C and successfully fitting the parameters of an Antoine-type equation. Similarly, positive results were achieved for unsaturated solutions, where various parameters of different equations accounting for the salt concentration were estimated, simplifying the fitting procedure. Natural evaporation tests from water surfaces using saturated solutions revealed that salts with higher associated vapor pressures exhibit higher evaporation rates. On the other hand, hydrated salts retain water in their structure and are significantly affected by ambient humidity. Evaporation studies on natural and synthetic fabrics with saturated NaCl and CuSO4·5H2O solutions showed distinct behaviors. NaCl increased both the evaporation rate and salt deposition with each cycle. In contrast, CuSO4·5H2O reduced the absorption capacity by blocking the fabric's structure, decreasing the evaporation efficiency over successive cycles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present work deals with the wet tropospheric delay estimation using the different models for navigation signals over the Indian region. Results from various mathematical models are analysed for saturation vapour pressure, partial vapour pressure, and wet delay estimation. The delay is estimated for four places in India which are spread at different geographical locations. It is observed that the Wexeler model is more suitable for saturation vapour estimation. It shows that the difference between 0.00 to 0.25 mb with reference values throughout the year. Saturation vapour pressure which is derived using the Wexeler model is further used for partial vapour pressure estimation. Four different models were used to estimate partial vapour pressure and Zyuring model is found more suitable among all. The partial vapour pressure values vary from 5 mb to 25 mb at different altitudes. The results of the Zyuring model is further used to derive wet tropospheric delay. It is found that Hopfield model provides difference of up to 4 mm in tropospheric delay, better than any other seven models results which are used for wet delay estimation. Tropospheric wet delay is observed more in daytime as compared to nighttime. From the analysis, it is found that the Hopfield model is more suitable for wet delay estimation and can be used for wet delay corrections in navigation signals for accurate position estimation. Alternative sources for an industrial production of essential substances represent an exciting field of study for many researchers. Based on the previous research, itaconic acid and its esters were intensively studied as one of the sources. This paper relates to a determination of the basic physical–chemical properties of bis(2-methylbutyl) itaconate and bis(3-methylbutyl) itaconate that are produced from itaconic acid and 2-methylbutan-1-ol and 3-methylbutan-1-ol, respectively, from biomass. According to our best knowledge, physical–chemical properties of these substances, such as density, viscosity, and saturated vapor pressure, are not presented in the literature, and these are important for the future research of their production. The squeeze film damper (SFD) is a damping device that has been widely used in rotating machines. The SFD can effectively suppress rotor vibration and reduce transmitted forces. However, it would cause complex motions of the rotor system under specific operating conditions. This paper investigates the support structure of a high-pressure stage simulated rotor in an aircraft engine. A dynamic model of the SFD considering the effects of inertia and cavitation is established to investigate the influence of structural parameters on the stiffness and damping coefficient of the damper. Subsequently, a finite element model of the Jeffcott rotor–SFD system is developed to explore the effects of the structure parameters of the SFD on the critical speed, mode shapes, and other dynamic characteristics of the Jeffcott rotor–SFD system. Experimental tests are conducted to validate and refine the numerical calculations regarding the dynamic characteristics of the rotor–damper system. The results indicate that there is consistency between numerical simulations and experimental results. Within a certain range, enlarging the width of the damper can significantly increase the magnitude of the pressure distribution of the oil film. However, when the pressure amplitude increases to the saturation vapor pressure of the lubricating oil, the cavitation effect begins to manifest. As the width of the damper increases, both the stiffness coefficient and damping coefficient of the SFD are enhanced. Cigarette smoking can lead to a host of adverse health effects such as lung and heart disease. Increased lung cancer risk is associated with inhalation of carcinogens present in a puff of smoke. These carcinogenic compounds deposit in the lung at different sites and trigger a cascade of events leading to adverse outcomes. Understanding the site-specific deposition of various smoke constituents will inform the study of respiratory diseases from cigarette smoking. We previously developed a deposition model for inhalation of aerosol from electronic nicotine delivery systems. In this study, the model was modified to simulate inhalation of cigarette smoke consisting of soluble and insoluble tar, nicotine, and cigarette-specific constituents that are known or possible human carcinogens. The deposition model was further modified to account for nicotine protonation and other cigarette-specific physics-based mechanisms that affect smoke deposition. Model predictions showed a total respiratory tract uptake in the lung for formaldehyde (99%), nicotine (80%), and benzo[a]pyrene (60%). The site of deposition and uptake depended primarily on the constituent's saturation vapor pressure. High vapor pressure constituents such as formaldehyde were preferentially absorbed in the oral cavity and proximal lung regions, while low vapor pressure constituents such as benzo[a]pyrene were deposited in the deep lung regions. Model predictions of exhaled droplet size, droplet retention, nicotine retention, and uptake of aldehydes compared favorably with experimental data. Large contact angle hysteresis surfaces were the topic of a contribution in Ref. [19]. They address the relation between vapor of a liquid, a finite contact angle, and a possible wetting transition at saturation vapor pressure. In Ref. The formation of secondary organic aerosol (SOA) is inextricably linked to the photo‐oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons. However, models still exhibit biases in representing SOA mass and chemical composition. We implemented a box model coupled with a near‐explicit photochemical mechanism, the Master Chemical Mechanism (MCMv3.3.1), to simulate a series of chamber studies and assess model biases in simulating SOA from representative monocyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, that is, toluene and three xylene isomers (TX SOA). The box model underpredicted SOA yields of toluene and xylenes by 4.7%–100%, which could be improved by adjusting the saturation vapor pressure (SVP) of their oxidation products. After updating the SVP values, the mass concentration of TX SOA in the Yangtze River Delta region during summer doubled, and there was also an approximate 3% enhancement in the total SOA. Compared to a lumped mechanism used for simulating TX SOA, MCM predicted comparable mass concentrations but exhibited different volatility distributions and oxidation states. Multi-physics thermo-fluid modeling has been extensively used as an approach to understand melt pool dynamics and defect formation as well as optimizing the process-related parameters of laser powder-bed fusion (L-PBF). However, its capabilities for being implemented as a reliable tool for material design, where minor changes in material-related parameters must be accurately captured, is still in question. In the present research, first, a thermo-fluid computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model is developed and validated against experimental data. Considering the predicted material properties of the pure Mg and commercial ZK60 and WE43 Mg alloys, parametric studies are done attempting to elucidate how the difference in some of the material properties, i.e., saturated vapor pressure, viscosity, and solidification range, can influence the melt pool dynamics. It is found that a higher saturated vapor pressure, associated with the ZK60 alloy, leads to a deeper unstable keyhole, increasing the keyhole-induced porosity and evaporation mass loss. Higher viscosity and wider solidification range can increase the non-uniformity of temperature and velocity distribution on the keyhole walls, resulting in increased keyhole instability and formation of defects. Finally, the WE43 alloy showed the best behavior in terms of defect formation and evaporation mass loss, providing theoretical support to the extensive use of this alloy in L-PBF. In summary, this study suggests an approach to investigate the effect of materials-related parameters on L-PBF melting and solidification, which can be extremely helpful for future design of new alloys suitable for L-PBF. An alternative to the existing method of processing secondary magnesium raw materials by remelting in a salt furnace can be distillation separation into volatile metals (Mg, Zn and Cd), low-volatile metals (Al, Mn and Zr) and rare earth elements. The separation of metals may be tracked based on phase diagrams where the field boundaries of the vapor–liquid equilibrium are plotted. Due to the fact that Mg, Zn and Cd have comparable saturated vapor pressures, the possibility of the distillation separation of Mg–Zn and Mg–Cd systems using full state diagrams including the melt–vapor phase transition boundaries were determined in this work. The boundaries of these systems were calculated based on the partial values of saturated vapor, determined by the boiling point method, and presented in the form of temperature–concentration dependencies with the indicated boundaries. The field boundaries were calculated (L + V) at atmospheric pressure (101.33 kPa) and in vacuum (1.33 kPa and 0.7 kPa,) supposing the implementation of the process. The possibility of the separate extraction of zinc and cadmium from magnesium was considered using complete phase diagrams including the boundaries of the melt–steam phase transition. When considering the boundaries of the vapor–liquid equilibrium in the binary systems Mg–Zn and Mg–Cd, it was established that it is impossible to separate metals in one "evaporation–condensation" cycle in a vacuum of 1.33 and 0.7 kPa. The problem is caused by the small size of the fields (L + V) at the temperature, which suggests processes of the re-evaporation of the condensate from the previous distillation stage. The separation of zinc and cadmium from liquid alloys with magnesium under equilibrium conditions requires several repetitions of the condensate distillation process. In non-equilibrium conditions, the real processes will require a larger number of conversions. This implies the expediency of the joint evaporation of magnesium with zinc and cadmium and the use of condensate for additional charging to liquid magnesium, and the remainder of the distillation, where volatile metals such as Al, Mn, Zr and rare earth elements will be concentrated, should be directed to the preparation of ligatures for special magnesium-based alloys. We describe a new experimental system for direct measurements of the absolute saturation vapor pressures of liquid or solid samples. The setup allows the isolation of the sample under steady conditions in an ultra-high vacuum chamber, where the measurement of the sample's vapor pressure as a function of its temperature can be performed in a range around room temperature and in a pressure range defined only by the applied absolute pressure sensor. We characterize the setup and illustrate its capability to measure saturation vapor pressures as well as enthalpies of evaporation around room temperature with explicit measurements on four liquid compounds (diethyl phthalate, 1-decanol, 1-heptanol, and 1-hexanol) for which accurate vapor pressures have previously been reported. The cavitation effect of lubricating film has a significant impact on the seal performance of hydrodynamic pressure mechanical seals.Kerosene-based magnetic fluid lubrication upstream pumping mechanical seal with inclined groove was taken as the research object.By considering the cavitation heat effect as well as the viscous temperature effect, the calculation model of lubricating fluid film was established to study the influences of working conditions and structural parameters on the seal performances using the volume fraction of gas phase in the liquid film as an indicator, and the results were compared with those based on the model only considering the viscous temperature effect. It is found that, due to the cavitation heat model considering the variation of saturated vapor pressure of liquid film medium with temperature,the opening force, leakage rate and volume fraction of vapor phase when considering the thermal effect of cavitation are smaller than the corresponding results when considering the viscosity-temperature effect only, but the variation regularity of each parameter is basically the same under the two conditions. The cavitation effect is enhanced by increasing the rotational speed and the groove diameter ratio, while the cavitation effect is weakened by increasing the inlet pressure, film thickness, radial angle and number of grooves. An increase in rotational speed, groove depth, radial angle, and groove diameter ratio will lead to an increase in leakage rate, while an increase in inlet pressure and groove number can improve sealing performance. Predicting air pollution is complex due to intertwined factors among local climate, built environment, and development stages. This study leverages K‐means clustering and an improved Apriori algorithm to investigate the combined effects of local meteorological, morphological, and socioeconomic factors on air quality in 244 prefectural‐level Chinese cities. Results reveal that the secondary industry in GDP and saturation vapor pressure strongly relate to air quality. Severe air pollution occurs when urban development is coupled with reduced green areas and high temperatures, confirming that a single factor cannot predict air quality well. For example, we find that combining low population, low regional GDP, high maximum temperatures, and longer roads worsens air quality in small urban built‐up areas. Additionally, temperature and altitude differences associate with highway passenger volume, regional GDP, and population differently. Given our rules mining methods have broader applications in diversified urban environments, this study provides new insights for improving air quality and local Sustainable Development Goals. 1,3,5-Tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene is an organic non-electrolyte with notable stability of an amorphous phase. Its glassy and supercooled liquid states were previously studied by spectroscopic and calorimetric methods. Despite the continuing interest in its amorphous state and, particularly, vapor-deposited glasses, the thermodynamic parameters of the vaporization of 1,3,5-tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene have not been obtained yet. Likewise, the reliable evaluation of the thermodynamic parameters of fusion below the melting point, required to establish the thermodynamic state of its glass, is still an unsolved problem. In this work, the heat capacities of crystalline and liquid phases, the temperature dependence of the saturated vapor pressures, fusion and vaporization enthalpies were determined using differential and fast scanning calorimetry and were verified using the estimates based on solution calorimetry. The structural features of 1,3,5-tris-(α-naphthyl)benzene are discussed based on the computations performed and the data on the molecular refractivity. Climate models generally predict a poleward shift of the midlatitude circulation in response to climate change induced by increased greenhouse gas concentration, but the intermodel spread of the eddy-driven jet shift is large and poorly understood. Recent studies point to the significance of midlatitude midtropospheric diabatic heating for the intermodel spread in the jet latitude. To examine the role of diabatic heating in the jet response to climate change, a series of simulations are performed using an idealized aquaplanet model. It is found that both increased CO2 concentration and increased saturation vapor pressure induce a similar warming response, leading to a poleward and upward shift of the midlatitude circulation. An exception to this poleward shift is found for a certain range of temperatures, where the eddy-driven jet shifts equatorward, while the latitude of the eddy heat flux remains essentially unchanged. This equatorward jet shift is explained by the connection between the zonal-mean momentum and heat budgets: increased diabatic heating in the midlatitude midtroposphere balances the cooling by the Ferrel cell ascending branch, enabling an equatorward shift of the Ferrel cell streamfunction and eddy-driven jet, while the latitude of the eddy heat flux remains unchanged. The equatorward jet shift and the strengthening of the midlatitude diabatic heating are found to be sensitive to the model resolution. The implications of these results for a potential reduction in the jet shift uncertainty through the improvement of convective parameterizations are discussed. Significance Statement: The latitude of the eddy-driven jet displays considerable variation in climate models, and the factors influencing this variability are poorly understood. This work connects the strength of midlatitude diabatic heating to the structure of the midlatitude circulation and the eddy-driven jet latitude. The direction of the eddy-driven jet shift in response to climate change is found to depend on the diabatic heating response, which in turn depends on the parameterized convective heating. These results highlight the role of convective parameterizations in the representation of the midlatitude circulation in climate models. Additionally, the results imply that the eddy-driven jet shift cannot be explained solely based on the storm-track response to climate change, in contrast with previously suggested explanations. This study focuses on understanding the fractal characteristics and controlling factors of micropore structures within organic-rich shale of the Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area of Hubei Province. Mineralogy, petrology, and organogeochemical characteristics were confirmed through comprehensive testing methods, including whole-rock X-ray diffraction and organic geochemical analyses. Additional experiments included low- temperature carbon dioxide adsorption, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and high-pressure mercury injection. Fractal dimensions of micropores, mesopores, and macropores were calculated using the V-S, FHH, and MENGER sponge models, respectively. Results indicate that the Cambrian Shuijingtuo Formation represents a typical deposit from an alkaline water body, resulting in high-calcareous shale. Fractal dimensions were as follows: micropores (D1) ranged from 2.1138 to 2.3475 (average 2.2342), mesopores (D2) ranged from 2.5327 to 2.7162 (average 2.6171), and macropores (D3) ranged from 2.7361 to 2.9316 (average 2.82905). Correlations were observed between total organic carbon (TOC) content and Ro with D1 and D2 (positive) and D3 (negative). Shale pore volume and specific surface area exhibited positive correlations with D1 and D2 but negative correlations with D3. High bio-deposited silica positively influenced micropore and mesopore development, while clay mineral compaction and dehydration transformations favored macropore development. Carbonate minerals primarily contributed to regular macropores, with complex correlations involving fractal dimensions D1, D2, and D3. The research results provide theoretical support for analyzing pore fractal characteristics of shallow old Marine shale reservoirs and the prediction and development plan of high-quality reservoirs of the Shuijingtuo Formation in the Yichang area. This article provides an overview of the evaluation of the Gross Ecosystem Product (GEP) in the Changdao sea area in China from 2017 to 2019. The GEP represents the total monetary value of ecosystem products used by people within a specific administrative jurisdiction. The study found that the GEP in the area experienced a slight overall decrease of 5.64% during the three-year period, with the values of regulating and cultural products decreasing. The study emphasizes the importance of incorporating ecological benefits into performance evaluations and suggests areas for future research and improvement in evaluation methods. Compared with the globe valves and other on-off valves, cavitation and noise are more severe in the throttle control valve of the refrigerating system due to the higher saturated vapor pressure of the refrigerant. A short tube throttle valve (STTV) is an important throttle control component and cavitation noise easily occurs because of the pressure drop caused by flow throttling. To suppress the cavitation noise, this paper proposed a numerical investigation verified by experimental data into cavitation and noise characteristics inside the STTV. Three kinds of typical throttle valve structures are proposed in this study. The flow field and cavitation noise of the STTV under different refrigerant flow rates were analyzed numerically. The noise levels of the prototype and three optimized structures are comparatively assessed and analyzed. The findings indicate that the level of cavitation noise rises with an increase in flow rate through the STTV. Specifically, when the flow rate transitions from 0.014 kg/s to 0.024 kg/s, there is a corresponding increase in noise levels, moving from 102.8 dB to 122.5 dB. There is less cavitation noise upstream and the flow is stable, while the noise is mainly concentrated downstream with symmetrical distribution characteristics. The distribution seems to have small noise near the internal wall, while large noise is in the center of the downstream in the STTV, and the maximum noise is observed at the corner of the valve seat of the valve outlet. When a fluid is constrained to a fixed, finite volume, the conditions for liquid–vapor equilibrium are different from those for the infinite volume or constant pressure cases. There is even a range of densities for which no bubble can form, and the liquid at a pressure below the bulk saturated vapor pressure remains indefinitely stable. As the fluid density in mineral inclusions is often derived from the temperature of bubble disappearance, a correction for the finite volume effect is required. Previous works have explained these phenomena and proposed a numerical procedure to compute the correction for pure water in a container completely wet by the liquid phase. Here, we revisit these works and provide an analytic formulation valid for any fluid, including the case of partial wetting. We introduce the Berthelot–Laplace length λ = 2γκ/3, which combines the liquid isothermal compressibility κ and its surface tension γ. Electron beam powder bed fusion (E-PBF) is an attractive technology for the additive manufacturing of metal parts. However, process improvements require precise control of the energy transferred to the powder by the electron beam. Here, we used tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TD-LAS) to measure the velocity distribution functions of titanium atoms evaporated during E-PBF. The narrow spectral ranges emitted by laser diodes allow for high-resolution absorption profiles of the evaporated atoms and thus accurate determinations of their Doppler broadening, density, and temperature during melting. The obtained vapor temperature reveals overheating at the surface of the melt pool relative to the low-pressure (0.1 Pa) boiling point of titanium, indicating that evaporation occurs under nonequilibrium conditions. We characterized the influence of the linear energy density on titanium evaporation and found it to be consistent with the saturation vapor pressure. Our characterization of the vapor properties provides reliable inputs for melt pool simulations. Anvil cirrus generated by deep convection covers large fractions of the tropics and has important impacts on the Earth's radiation budget and climate. In situ measurements made with high‐altitude aircraft indicate a rapid transition in ice crystal size distributions and habits as anvil cirrus ages. We use numerical simulations to investigate the impact of high‐frequency gravity waves on the evolution of anvil cirrus microphysical properties. The impacts of both monochromatic gravity waves and ubiquitous stochastic mesoscale temperature fluctuations are simulated. In both cases, the interplay between wave‐driven temperature fluctuations, deposition growth/sublimation, and sedimentation causes accelerated removal of both small ice crystals (diameters less than about 10 μm) and large crystals (diameters larger than ≈30 μm). These changes are consistent with the observed evolution of anvil cirrus microphysical properties. The Kelvin effect (higher saturation vapor pressure over curved surfaces) is a critical factor in the anvil evolution, driving mass transfer from small to large ice crystals. The wave‐driven decrease in ice concentration is much faster for typical anvil cirrus detrained at ≃11.5–12.5 km than for less frequent anvils at 15.5–17.5 km because of the strong temperature dependence of deposition growth and sublimation rates. The simulations also show that waves, along with the Kelvin effect, drive growth of mid‐sized (5–20 μm) ice crystals, which is consistent with the observed transition to bullet rosette habits in aging anvil cirrus. We conclude that high‐frequency gravity waves, which are generally not resolved in large‐scale models, likely have important impacts on anvil cirrus microphysical properties and lifetimes. The property of vaporization phase transition in liquid oxygen face seals is a key factor affecting the stability of mechanical face seals in many fields, especially under cryogenic conditions. Here, a numerical model based on the saturated vapor pressure is established to investigate the vaporization phase transition property of liquid oxygen sealing film. The novelty of this model is to take the influence of heat transfer and face distortions into consideration at the same time. The pressure and temperature distributions as well as face distortions are calculated, and then the property of vaporization phase transition and sealing performance are analyzed. It is found that spiral grooves may lead to the complex film temperature distributions and irregular vaporization distributions. With the increase in seal temperature and decrease in seal pressure, the vaporization area extends from the low-pressure side to the grooves area, and the vaporization rate increases rapidly. The more important thing is that the vaporization often brings a drastic fluctuation and non-monotonic change in opening force. Specifically, with the increase inin seal temperature from 55 K to 140 K, the opening force fluctuates violently, and the fluctuation range is more than 50%, showing an obvious instability. Finally, this study provides a design range of pressure and temperature values for liquid oxygen face seals. The size dependence of the surface tension of critical bubbles in a superheated (stretched) Lennard–Jones solution with complete solubility of the components is considered. Two approaches are used to determine this dependence. The first one is based on the van der Waals gradient theory, and the second one is based on molecular dynamic simulation results of nucleation in a solution. It is established that, unlike in a one-component liquid, where the surface tension of the equilibrium bubble is less than that for the flat interface, in solution, it can exceed the flat limit. The ranges of temperatures, pressures, and mixture compositions, where this effect occurs, are determined. At the interface between rotating components and the working medium in fluid machinery, cavitation in the liquid is induced. The temperature of the working medium has a significant influence on the cavitation. However, the effect of temperature on the pressure and pressure energy in the collapse of bubbles cannot be explained accurately. This study established cavitation models containing insoluble gases at different temperatures and iron walls. The Transferable Intermolecular Potential 4 Points-Fluctuating Bonds water model and the Reax force field were selected to study the influence of temperature on pressure energy and pressure in the process of bubble collapse. Employing the model, we examined variations in release pressure and the pressure energy associated with bubble collapse within the system at diverse temperatures. This investigation was conducted by establishing 24 monitoring points. The findings revealed that the near-wall single-bubble collapse process could be delineated into four distinct stages: the precollapse stage, the inertia stage, the rebound stage, and the collapse stage. These four stages manifest on both the pressure curve in the simulation and the curve depicting changes in the cavity area during the experimental phase. The influence of temperature on bubble collapse primarily stemmed from its impact on saturation vapor pressure and viscosity. It is argued that the van der Waals force exerted by the liquid and vapor/air on the molecules escaping from one phase into the other strongly affects the characteristics of evaporation. This is shown using two distinct descriptions of the van der Waals force: the Vlasov and diffuse-interface models, each of which is applied to two distinct settings: a liquid evaporating into its vapor and a liquid evaporating into air (in all cases, the vapor-to-liquid density ratio is small). For the former setting, the results are consistent with the Hertz–Knudsen law (HKL), but the evaporation/condensation probability is very small (in the classical HKL, it is order one). For the latter setting, the dependence of the evaporation rate on the difference between the saturated vapor pressure and its actual value is shown to be nonlinear (whereas the classical HKL predicts a linear dependence). The difference between the two settings indicates that the van der Waals force exerted by the air strongly affects evaporation (contrary to the general assumption that the ambient gas is unimportant). Finally, the diffuse-interface model is shown to be inapplicable in a narrow region at the outskirts of the interface—as a result, it noticeably underestimates the evaporative flux by comparison with the (more accurate) Vlasov model. Because epidemiologic and environmental risk factors for nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) have been reported only infrequently, little information exists about those factors. The state of Virginia, USA, requires certain ecologic features to be included in reports to the Virginia Department of Health, presenting a unique opportunity to study those variables. We analyzed laboratory reports of Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) and M. abscessus infections in Virginia during 2021-2023. MAC/M. abscessus was isolated from 6.19/100,000 persons, and 2.37/100,000 persons had MAC/M. abscessus lung disease. M. abscessus accounted for 17.4% and MAC for 82.6% of cases. Saturated vapor pressure was associated with MAC/M. abscessus prevalence (prevalence ratio 1.414, 95% CI 1.011-1.980; p = 0.043). Self-supplied water use was a protective factor (incidence rate ratio 0.304, 95% CI 0.098-0.950; p = 0.041). The solubility of crystalline MoO3 in HCl solutions with variable concentration was investigated at 100, 155, 200, 250, 300, 350°C and saturated vapor pressure. In a chamber-based digital PCR (dPCR) chip fabricated with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), bubble generation in the chambers at high temperatures is a critical issue. Here, we found that the main reason for bubble formation in PDMS chips is the too-high saturated vapor pressure of water at an elevated temperature. The bubbles should be completely prevented by reducing the initial pressure of the system to under 13.6 kPa to eliminate the effects of increased-pressure water vapor. Then, a cavity was designed and fabricated above the PCR reaction layer, and Parylene C was used as a shell covering the chip. The cavity was used for the negative generator in sample loading, PDMS degassing, PCR solution degassing in the digitization process and water storage in the thermal reaction process. On seasonal time scales, vapor pressure deficit (VPD) is a known predictor of burned area in the southwestern United States ("the Southwest"). VPD increases with atmospheric warming due to the exponential relationship between temperature and saturation vapor pressure. Another control on VPD is specific humidity, such that increases in specific humidity can counteract temperature-driven increases in VPD. Unexpectedly, despite the increased capacity of a warmer atmosphere to hold water vapor, near-surface specific humidity decreased from 1970 to 2019 in much of the Southwest, particularly in spring, summer, and fall. Here, we identify declining near-surface humidity from 1970 to 2019 in the southwestern United States with both reanalysis and in situ station data. Focusing on the interior Southwest in the months preceding the summer forest fire season, we explain the decline in terms of changes in atmospheric circulation and moisture fluxes between the surface and the atmosphere. We find that an early spring decline in precipitation in the interior region induced a decline in soil moisture and evapotranspiration, drying the lower troposphere in summer. This prior season precipitation decline is in turn related to a trend toward a Northern Hemisphere stationary wave pattern. Finally, using fixed humidity scenarios and the observed exponential relationship between VPD and burned forest area, we estimate that with no increase in temperature at all, the humidity decline alone would still lead to nearly one-quarter of the observed VPD-induced increase in burned area over 1984–2019. Significance Statement: Burned forest area has increased significantly in the southwestern United States in recent decades, driven in part by an increase in atmospheric aridity [vapor pressure deficit (VPD)]. Increases in VPD can be caused by a combination of increasing temperature and decreasing specific humidity. As the atmosphere warms with climate change, its capacity to hold moisture increases. Despite this, there is a decrease in near-surface air humidity in the interior southwestern United States over 1970–2019, which during the summer is likely caused by a decline in early spring precipitation leading to limited soil moisture and evaporation in spring and summer. We estimate that this declining humidity alone, without an increase in temperature, would cause about one-quarter of the VPD-induced increase in burned forest area in this region over 1984–2019. We present a differential equation that models the process of evaporation from a free-water surface, based on the principle of conservation of mass and Dalton's evaporation law. We collected experimental data to verify the accuracy of the analytic solution to the differential equation model. This verification process required the computation of the two vapor-pressure terms appearing in Dalton's equation: * the saturation vapor pressure of the evaporating water, and * the partial vapor pressure of the thin layer of moist air just above the evaporating water surface. We explain these terms and others involved in the underlying physics. Finally, we calculate the proportionality constant in Dalton's equation, based on the slope coefficient of the least-squares linear fit to the experimental data. Geobarometers are commonly used to determine the pressure (and hence depth) of magmatic bodies. For instance, at equilibrium, the concentration of dissolved volatiles in a vapor-saturated melt can be used as a barometer: this is the pressure of vapor-saturation P s a t v . Most determinations of P s a t v assume that melt and vapor contain only oxidized C-O-H species. However, sulfur is the third most abundant volatile element in magmas, and oxygen fugacity f O 2 exerts a strong influence on the speciation of the melt and vapor. To explore how S and f O 2 afect calculations of P s a t v , we model a Hawaiian tholeiite that contains both reduced and oxidized C-O-H-S species in the melt and vapor. We find that excluding reduced CO-H species in the system can result in significant underestimations of P s a t v under reducing conditions (ΔFMQ < 0). The efect of S on P s a t v is small except in the vicinity of the "sulfur solubility minimum" (SSmin; 0 < ΔFMQ < +2), where excluding S-bearing species can result in underestimates of P s a t v . The implications of these results depend on the volatile concentration of the system being investigated, its fO2, and the melt composition and temperature. Our results suggest there will be little impact on P s a t v calculated for mid-ocean ridge basalts because their f O 2 is above where reduced C-O-H species become important in the melt and vapor and yet below the SSmin. However, the f O 2 of ocean island and arc basalts are close enough to the SSmin and their S concentrations high enough to influence P s a t v . However, high-CO2 and high-H2O concentrations are predicted to reduce the efect of the SSmin. Hence, P s a t v calculated for shallowly trapped melt inclusions and matrix glass are more afected by the SSmin than deeply trapped melt inclusions. Lunar and martian magmas are typically more reduced than terrestrial magmas, and therefore accurate P s a t v calculations for them require the inclusion of reduced C-O-H species. The eruption of the Hunga Tonga‐Hunga Ha'apai volcano on 15 January 2022 was one of the most explosive eruptions of the last decades. The amount of water vapor injected into the stratosphere was unprecedented in the observational record, increasing the stratospheric water vapor burden by about 10%. Using model runs from the ATLAS chemistry and transport model and Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) satellite observations, we show that while 20%–40% more water vapor than usual was entrained into the Antarctic polar vortex in 2023 as it formed, the direct chemical effect of the increased water vapor on Antarctic ozone depletion in June through October was minor (less than 4 DU). This is because low temperatures in the vortex, as occur every year in the Antarctic, limit water vapor to the saturation pressure and thus reset any anomalies through the process of dehydration before they can affect ozone loss. The vegetation and ecosystem in the source region of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River (SRYY) are fragile. Affected by climate change, extreme droughts are frequent and permafrost degradation is serious in this area. It is very important to quantify the drought–vegetation interaction in this area under the influence of climate–permafrost coupling. In this study, based on the saturated vapor pressure deficit (VPD) and soil moisture (SM) that characterize atmospheric and soil drought, as well as the Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) and solar-induced fluorescence (SIF) that characterize vegetation greenness and function, the evolution of regional vegetation productivity and drought were systematically identified. On this basis, the technical advantages of the causal discovery algorithm Peter–Clark Momentary Conditional Independence (PCMCI) were applied to distinguish the response of vegetation to VPD and SM. Furthermore, this study delves into the response mechanisms of NDVI and SIF to atmospheric and soil drought, considering different vegetation types and permafrost degradation areas. The findings indicated that low SM and high VPD were the limiting factors for vegetation growth. The positive and negative causal effects of VPD on NDVI accounted for 47.88% and 52.12% of the total area, respectively. Shrubs were the most sensitive to SM, and the response speed of grassland to SM was faster than that of forest land. The impact of SM on vegetation in the SRYY was stronger than that of VPD, and the effect in the frozen soil degradation area was more obvious. The average causal effects of NDVI and SIF on SM in the frozen soil degradation area were 0.21 and 0.41, respectively, which were twice as high as those in the whole area, and SM dominated NDVI (SIF) changes in 62.87% (76.60%) of the frozen soil degradation area. The research results can provide important scientific basis and theoretical support for the scientific assessment and adaptation of permafrost, vegetation, and climate change in the source area and provide reference for ecological protection in permafrost regions. Spatiotemporal variations in Central Asian vegetation phenology provide insights into arid ecosystem behavior and its response to environmental cues. Nevertheless, comprehensive research on the integrated impact of meteorological factors (temperature, precipitation, soil moisture, saturation vapor pressure deficit), topography (slope, aspect, elevation), and greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide) on the phenology of Central Asian vegetation remains insufficient. Utilizing methods such as partial correlation and structural equation modeling, this study delves into the direct and indirect influences of climate, topography, and greenhouse gases on the phenology of vegetation. The results reveal that the start of the season decreased by 0.239 days annually, the length of the season increased by 0.044 days annually, and the end of the season decreased by 0.125 days annually from 1982 to 2021 in the arid regions of Central Asia. Compared with topography and greenhouse gases, meteorological factors are the dominant environmental factors affecting interannual phenological changes. Temperature and vapor pressure deficits (VPD) have become the principal meteorological elements influencing interannual dynamic changes in vegetation phenology. Elevation and slope primarily regulate phenological variation by influencing the VPD and soil moisture, whereas aspect mainly affects the spatiotemporal patterns of vegetation phenology by influencing precipitation and temperature. Pan evaporation (E pan) is a critical measure of the atmospheric evaporation demand. Analyzing meteorological data from the Tropical Rainforest Comprehensive Meteorological Observation Field in the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG Meteorological Observing Station) based on physical models is helpful to improve our understanding of the state of the hydrological cycle in the Xishuangbanna tropical rainforest region. In this study, we investigated the long-term trend in E pan using the observation data from 1959 to 2021. Moreover, correlation analyses of E pan were performed, such as trend test, assessment of periodic properties and abrupt change analysis. Then, D20 E pan data and related meteorological data from 1979 to 2008 were used to drive Penman‒Monteith and PenPan models for simulating E pan. The partial derivative attribution method was used to analyze the dominant factors affecting E pan. The results showed that E pan exhibits obvious periodic changes, the 19a is the first primary period. In addition, there was a clear 'evaporation paradox' phenomenon in Xishuangbanna. E pan showed a decreasing trend during both 1959–2008 and 2009–2018, and the decreasing trend reached a significant level with a rate of −3.404 mm·a−2 during 1959–2008. Through comparative analysis, the PenPan model was considered more suitable for simulating E pan in Xishuangbanna. In order to identify the main meteorological factors influencing E pan, complete data from the D20 pan monitoring period, namely, 1979–2008, were selected for attribution calculations. Noble antimony is the carrier of precious metals in the antimony smelting system and has a very high added value. This study proposes a novel, green, and effective vacuum gasification process for purifying antimony and recovering precious metals from noble antimony. Saturated vapor pressure and separation coefficients (β) were used to qualitatively analyze the possibility of separating elements from noble antimony, while vapor–liquid equilibrium (VLE) phase diagrams were used to quantitatively predict the degree of separation of alloying components and resulting product compositions. The effects of temperature and holding time on the antimony purity and the recovery efficiencies of Au and Ag were investigated by vacuum gasification experiments. The experimental results revealed that at an optimal temperature of 1123 K, the antimony purity in the volatiles was 99.41 pct. In the residues, the Au content was 11300 g/t and the recovery efficiency was 99.62 pct. Further, for Ag, these values were 2300 g/t and 66.56 pct, respectively. At an optimal holding time of 120 minutes, the antimony purity in the volatiles was 99.63 pct. In the residues, the Au content was 12100 g/t with a recovery efficiency of 99.75 pct, whereas the Ag content was 2600 g/t with a recovery efficiency of 67.12. Valuable metals in noble antimony are effectively purified and recovered via the vacuum gasification process without generating any waste gas and water. This work provides guidance for the separation of antimony and precious metals via the vacuum gasification of noble antimony, aligning with the principles of cleaner production. Initiated chemical vapor deposition is a unique solvent-free and completely dry vapor-phase deposition technique used to synthesize organic polymer films. In this process, an activated initiator, monomer, and carrier gas are introduced into the reaction chamber simultaneously. This technique has been widely adopted. However, if the monomer and initiator are introduced into the chamber in stages—allowing gas-phase monomer deposition and condensation first, followed by initiator introduction and controlling the monomer partial pressure to be higher than the saturated vapor pressure—non-spherical polymer nanoparticles with dome-like shapes can be obtained. This advanced iCVD technique is referred to as the "Condensed Droplet Polymerization Approach". This high monomer partial pressure gas-phase deposition is not suitable for forming uniformly composed iCVD films; but interestingly, it can rapidly obtain polymer nanodomes (PNDs). Using CDP technology, Franklin polymerized multifunctional nanodomes in less than 45 s, demonstrating a wide range of continuous particle size variations, from sub-20 nanometers to over 1 micron. This rapid synthesis included a variety of functional polymer nanodomes in just a matter of seconds to minutes. This review discusses the crucial process conditions of the Condensed Droplet Polymerization (CDP) Approach for synthesizing PNDs. Based on the TraPPE force field, previously unknown values of the parameters of the intermolecular interaction potential of trans-decalin were determined. Parametrization was carried out using experimental data on saturated vapor pressure and density at atmospheric pressure. The found parameters make it possible to adequately describe the boiling and condensation lines of trans-decalin and also predict the critical values of pressure, density, and temperature with satisfactory accuracy. Calculations of vapor-liquid phase equilibrium conditions for a binary CO2—trans-decalin mixture in supercritical conditions for CO2 were carried out. When quantitatively comparing the calculated values with experimental data, an underestimation of pressure at a temperature of 345.4 K by 30% is observed, which decreases to 5% for temperatures up to 525 K. An experimental study and dimensional analysis of the effective heat transfer coefficient in a continuous-indirect rotatube dryer using forest biomass as the granular material isare developed in the present work. The study employed a factorial design 3 3 to investigate the effects of feed flow frequency (20–35–50 (Hz)), drum rotational velocity (6–8–10 (rpm)), and saturated vapor pressure (4–5–6 (bar)) on the heat transfer coefficient. During steady state conditions, the moisture content profiles and inlet and outlet temperatures were measured within the experimental region, and parameters, such as the effective heat transfer coefficient, solid retention change, and moisture content ratio were studied. The results showed that heat transfer was optimized with high solid feeding rates, low pressure, and low rotation, with solid feeding being the predominant factor. The moisture content profiles revealed a change in the hydrodynamic behavior, with the center point of the experimental region being the least optimal. The dimensional analysis yielded a Nu number as a function of Pe, Fr, and the feeding dimensionless number. A new dimensionless energy efficiency number improved the coefficient correlation from 85.88 (%) to 94.46 (%), indicating the developed model potential to predict dimensionless variables and scale continuous-indirect rotatube dryers. ​​​​​​​Teflon bag chambers have long been used for investigating atmospheric chemical processes, including secondary organic aerosol formation. The wall-loss process of gas-phase species in Teflon bag chambers has typically been investigated at around room temperature. Recent laboratory studies started employing Teflon bag chambers at sub-273 K conditions for simulating wintertime and upper-tropospheric environments. However, temperature dependence in vapor-wall-loss processes of semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOCs) in a Teflon bag chamber has not been well investigated. In this study, we experimentally investigated wall-loss processes of C 14 –C 19 n -alkanes in a 1 m 3 Teflon bag for the temperature range of 262 to 298 K. Enhanced wall losses of the tested n -alkanes were observed following the decrease in temperature. For instance, 65 %​​​​​​​ of C 14 n -alkane was lost to the wall 15 h after injection at room temperature, while the corresponding value was 95 % at 262 K. The experimental data were analyzed using a two-layer kinetic model, which considers both absorption of gas-phase species to the surface layer of the Teflon wall and diffusion to the inner layer. The experimental data demonstrated that absorption of gas-phase species by the surface layer was enhanced at lower temperatures. The temperature dependence in absorption was well accounted for using the equilibrium-dissolution model of organic compounds to the Teflon surface by considering reduced saturation vapor pressure at lower temperatures. On the contrary, diffusion of n -alkanes from the surface to the inner layer slowed down at reduced temperatures. Mechanistic studies on these processes will need to be conducted in the future to quantitatively predict the influence of temperature-dependent wall-loss processes of SVOCs on laboratory experimental results. Butterfly valves are widely used in water supply systems, sewage treatment plants, chemical processes, and the natural gas industry to control and regulate the flow of fluids. When the liquid medium flows through a butterfly valve, the local pressure decreases rapidly because of the sudden change in the flow channel area, which leads to the cavitation generated at the downstream of butterfly valve if the local pressure is lower than saturated vapor pressure. This cavitation negatively affects the performance of the valve, causing severe vibration and noise. In some cases, this may affect the sealing performance and lifetime of the valve and could even lead to accidents. This paper mainly carried out experimental studies on the cavitation phenomenon inside butterfly valves. The cavitation evolution was recorded inside the butterfly valve at different opening degrees and pressure conditions by a high-speed camera, and the pressure was monitored at upstream and downstream of valve plate. The influences of valve opening degree and total pressure on dynamic evolution and distribution of cavitation was revealed. By comparing the distribution of vortices and cavitation bubbles in the flow field, it was found that vortices led to the aggregation of cavitation bubbles and changed the distribution of these bubbles in the flow field. We also analyzed the interaction between the cavitation and the surface of the butterfly plate. The shedding of the attached cavitation was mainly caused by a reentrant jet. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The electrolytic refining of crude tin is generally carried out in the fluorosilicic acid (H2SiF6) system with the assistance of bone glue and β-naphthol. However, the high saturated vapor pressure and low stability of H2SiF6 present environmental concerns and do not align with sustainable development goals. In this paper, the electrochemical behavior of tin on a glassy carbon (GC) electrode was studied in a relatively green and environmentally friendly methanesulfonic acid (MSA) system. Bone glue, sodium lignosulfonate, and β-naphthol were used as additives to make the deposit morphology smooth and to ensure grain refinement. The electrochemical reduction process of Sn2+ in an MSA system is a quasi-reversible process controlled by diffusion. The apparent activation energy E a = 14.189 kJ/mol for the ion diffusion of Sn2+ was further calculated. The results of chronoamperometry showed that the electrocrystallization of Sn2+ on the GC electrode gradually tended to three-dimensional instantaneous nucleation with the increase in applied potential. The morphology and phase of the deposits were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that the deposits were uniform and dense pure tin. Hydrodynamic cavitation, which occurs when the local pressure is below the saturated vapor pressure in hydrodynamic flow, is ubiquitous in fluid dynamics and implicated in a myriad of industrial and biomedical applications. Although extensively studied in isotropic liquids, corresponding investigations in anisotropic liquids are largely lacking. In this paper, the hydrodynamic cavitation in the bluff body bypass flow of nematic liquid crystal 5CB in the microchannel is experimentally investigated. By 5CB, we mean the thermotropic liquid crystal 4′-pentyl-4-biphenylcarbonitrile. When the Reynolds number is in the range of 3 × 10−4 < Re < 1.2 × 10−3, a special flow phenomenon behind the bluff body is observed, namely, the disclination loop. The critical Reynolds number of cavitation inception varies with the shape of the bluff body, while the lowest value corresponds to the triangular bluff body. The hydrodynamic cavitation occurs in the Stokes flow regime with the Reynolds number significantly lower than 0.1 for all bluff bodies. There is a close relation between the oscillation behavior of cavitation domains and the structure of the bluff body. In addition, the pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the microchannel shows linear relation with the Reynolds number rather than the quadratic relation for isotropic fluids, which proves the presence of shear thinning in the flow of nematic liquid crystals. The study in this paper on the hydrodynamic cavitation of nematic liquid crystal can broaden the research on providing new approaches for the enhancement of fluid mixing and heat transfer in microfluidic chips. The northern foothills of Yinshan Mountain are situated in northern China's agricultural and pastoral ecotone, serving as a crucial ecological barrier. To comprehensively assess the impact of grassland resource restoration in this region since the initiation of the Grain-for-Green conversion project in 2000, this study analyzes the spatiotemporal characteristics of precipitation use efficiency (PUE) and investigates climate-driven factors during 2001–2021. The results showed that the grassland types at the north foot of Yinshan could be divided into four categories: warm-arid, warm subtropical semidesert (WSS), warm temperate-arid, warm temperate zonal semidesert (WZS), warm temperate-semiarid, warm temperate typical steppe (WTS), and warm temperate-subhumid forest steppe (WFT). The NPP of the four grassland species were 151.34 (WSS), 196.72 (WZS), 283.33 (WTS), and 118.06 gC·m−2 (WFT), and correspondingly, the PUE of the four grassland species were 0.66 (WSS), 0.66 (WZS), 0.80 (WTS), and 0.57 gC·m−2·mm−1 (WFT). From 2001 to 2021, PUE in grassland showed an overall upward trend, rising from 0.57 to 0.99 gC·m−2·mm−1. The trend analysis found that the vegetation ecological area of the northern foot of Yinshan became better, of which 54.36% was improved and 15.72% was degraded. It is worth pointing out that WSS had the highest degree of improvement, while WFT was in a degraded state. The climate driving force analysis shows that the regional contribution of precipitation is 19.57%, temperature is 28.33%, potential evapotranspiration is 13.65%, wind speed is 10.79%, and saturated vapor pressure is 27.66%. • Sap flow of two desert species under different weather conditions is examined. • Haloxylon has stronger drought resistance than Calligonum. • Time lag between stem flow flux of two plants and environmental factors is identified. • BP neural network fits stem flow simulation of two plants with high accuracy. Understanding plant water consumption is crucial for artificial afforestation under drought environments and water stress in desert regions. However, the water consumption characteristics of desert species responding to the irrigation regimes are often neglected. By conducting a field test in the Taklimakan Desert Highway shelterbelt, this study examines the sap flow traits of two typical woody halophyte species (C alligonum mongolicum and Haloxylon ammodendron) and how they react to weather conditions and watering practices. Under the same irrigation treatment, the stem flux of C. mongolicum on sunny days was 1.5–5.3 times that on dusty days, while the stem flux of H. ammodendron on sunny days was 3.5–5.5 times that on dusty days. Both species demonstrated some sap flow during the night, representing 14.3%–24.9% and 7.3%–10.4% of the total sap flow for C. mongolicum and H. ammodendron , respectively. H. ammodendron maintained a higher stem flow during daytime and was more drought resistant than C. mongolicum. The daily sap flow patterns of these two species varied, showing both 'single' and 'double peak' curves depending on the watering conditions. A delay was also observed between the sap flow of these two species and the environmental factors. The factors influencing plant sap flow were found to be in the order of solar radiation, temperature, relative humidity, and saturated water vapor pressure difference. A BP-neural network proved highly effective for accurately simulating the sap flow of these two species. This research provides insights into how two common desert tree species adapt their water use in response to drought conditions, which is vital for artificial forest creation in desert areas. For this preliminary study, the lubricating properties of six formulations containing used cooking oils were tested. The physicochemical properties involved were determined by measuring viscosities at temperatures between 0 and 40 °C as well as by calculating adhesion energies. The formwork/concrete interface was then studied on the steel surface by means of both tribological measurements and analysis of facing quality at 1 day and 7 days after stripping. The results obtained were compared with a marketed vegetable-based oil. The physicochemical results revealed attractive parameters despite a viscosity that remained high. The liquid/vapor surface tensions and wettabilities measured satisfied the recommendations, i.e., greater than 30 mN/m and less than 30°. The selected formulation offered the best compromise between composition and the physicochemical recommendations. At the formwork/concrete interface and for a scraped application, satisfactory criteria were derived, with a 35% reduction in friction and an acceptable facing quality for this initial study.
