Cross-linked poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), a typical representative of smart thermo-responsive polymers, usually shows a broad range of lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of 28–60 °C, which needs to be precisely fine-tuned in a narrow range to widen its applications. This work details the preparation of dual responsive (temperature and pH) flexible graft copolymeric hydrogel films through free radical polymerization of N-isopropylacrylamide (NIPAm) with acrylated epoxidized linseed oil (AELO) derived from linseed oil. The broad LCST of PNIPAm is fine-tuned more precisely to a narrow range of 30–33 °C with an optimized content of AELO. Further, temperature response is clearly demonstrated with the transmittance analysis of swelled gels above and below the LCST, which is also confirmed by dynamic mechanical analysis. Furthermore, different concentrations of curcumin were included in the responsive matrix to impart antioxidant properties and pH-dependent colour-changing abilities. The effect of AELO grafting and inclusion of curcumin on physicochemical properties of copolymeric hydrogel films, namely, swelling, morphology, and tensile strength, is investigated. In vitro cell studies showed that the resultant hydrogel films exhibited desirable biocompatibility with human keratinocyte and fibroblast cell lines. The results presented in this study demonstrate the potential of AELO-co-PNIPAm copolymeric hydrogel films as a viable functional material for medical patches, smart curtains, and other applications. Yellow ochre commercial oil paint used in art and restoration was submitted to accelerated aging at 378 K between 5–720 h. SEM-EDS analysis shows particles with size in the range of 1.4–2.5 μm with high iron concentration in the paint aged from 360 h. EPR spectra showed a variation of g values between 2.2256 and 2.1719 (Fe3+) for samples aged 5–720 h, respectively, attributed to changes in the goethite chemical environment. Infrared analysis showed the presence of carboxylate groups in the aged material as the result of the molecular interaction between the product of linseed oil hydrolysis (palmitate) and the goethite surface through hydrogen bonding (R–C–OO⋯H–O–FeO). Such data is also supported by the Zeta potential of the pigment surface, which decreased as a function of aging time. The results show the change in the chemical environment of goethite is proportional to the increase in oil oxidation/hydrolysis products. The EPR and Zeta potential proved to be promising for the study of the molecular interactions in oil painting aging and can be used for new pigment/media formulations and for proposing new materials aimed at inhibiting the hydrolytic/oxidative processes of oil paints. Arthropod pests cause significant problems in agricultural crops all around the world. As chemical pesticide use becomes less desired, there is a need for alternative methods of pest control. Inspired by the natural adhesiveness of arthropod trapping plants, we examined the effectiveness of adhesive droplets made from oxidised and cross-linked plant-derived oils for control of western flower thrips. Two filter paper droplet adhesiveness assays and three detached chrysanthemum leaf assays were carried out to test efficacy against thrips. Suspensions containing adhesive droplets and other constituents were applied to filter papers and leaves via spraying or dipping. On filter papers, droplets made from oxidised rice germ oil (RGO) of different sizes caught 40–93% of thrips. Droplets made of a mixture of sunflower, olive, and linseed oil (MIX) caught up to 94% of thrips. Likewise, adhesive droplet-treated filter papers showed higher thrips mortality than untreated or control solution-treated filter papers. On chrysanthemum leaves, thrips were caught by both RGO (up to 40%) and MIX droplets (up to 20%) and thrips damage and reproduction were reduced. On MIX-treated leaves, thrips mortality was also increased. Within treatments, droplets of different size classes occurred and larger droplets were more effective at catching thrips in general. Droplets were also robust to rinsing with water, which is of importance for their application in horticulture. Fiber-reinforced composites (FRCs) represent a promising class of engineering materials due to their mechanical performance. However, the vast majority of FRCs are currently manufactured using carbon and glass fibers, which raises concerns because of the difficulties in recycling and the reliance on finite fossil resources. On the other hand, the use of natural fibers is still hampered due to the problems such as, e.g., differences in polarity between the reinforcement and the polymer matrix components, leading to a significant decrease in composite durability. In this work, we present a natural fiber-reinforced composite (NFRC), incorporating plasma pre-treated flax fibers as the reinforcing element, thermoplastic polylactic acid (PLA) as a matrix, and a key point of the current study—a thermoset coating based on epoxidized linseed oil for adhesion improvement. Using atmospheric plasma-jet treatment allows for increasing the fiber's surface energy from 20 to 40 mN/m. Furthermore, a thermoset coating layer based on epoxidized linseed oil, in conjunction with dodecyl succinic anhydride (DDSA) as a curing agent and 2,4,6-tris(dimethyl amino methyl) phenol (DMP-30) as a catalyst, has been developed. This coated layer exhibits a decomposition temperature of 350 °C, and there is a substantial increase in the dispersive surface-energy part of the coated flax fibers from 8 to 30 mN/m. The obtained natural fiber-reinforced composite (NFRC) was prepared by belt-pressing with a PLA film, and its mechanical properties were evaluated by tensile testing. The results showed an elastic modulus up to 18.3 GPa, which is relevant in terms of mechanical properties and opens up a new pathway to use natural-based fiber-reinforced bio-based materials as a convenient approach to greener FRCs. Flaxseed is the richest source of secoisolariciresinol diglucoside, which is converted by ruminal microorganisms primarily to the mammalian lignan enterolactone. Our objective was to investigate the effect of diets containing soybean meal or flaxseed meal (FM) supplemented with sucrose, flaxseed oil, or both, on milk enterolactone concentration yield, diversity, and relative abundance of ruminal bacterial taxa, ruminal fermentation profile, production performance, milk fatty acids (FA) yield, and nutrient utilization in dairy cows. Sixteen Holstein cows (8 multiparous [4 ruminally cannulated] and 8 primiparous) averaging (mean ± SD) 134 ± 54.1 DIM and 679 ± 78.9 kg of BW in the beginning of the study were assigned to treatment sequences in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square design. Each experimental period lasted 25 d, with 18 d for diet adaptation and 7 d for data and sample collection. Diets were formulated to contain a 60:40 forage:concentrate ratio and included the following (DM basis): (1) 8% soybean meal and 23% ground corn (SBM); (2) 15% FM, 10.7% ground corn, and 5% sucrose (FLX+S); (3) 15% FM, 15.4% ground corn, and 3% flaxseed oil (FLX+O); and (4) 15% FM, 10.2% ground corn, 5% sucrose, and 3% flaxseed oil (FLX+SO). Compared with SBM, the concentration and yield of milk enterolactone increased in cows fed the FM diets but did not differ among FLX+S, FLX+O, and FLX+SO. The relative abundances of the phyla Firmicutes, Verrucomicrobiota , and Actinobacteriota , and those of the bacterial genera Lachnospiraceae NK3A20 group, Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group, Anaeromusa-Anaeroarcus , WCHB1-41, and p-251-o5 decreased, whereas Prevotella and NK4A214 group increased when comparing SBM against at least 1 diet containing FM. Furthermore, the relative abundances of Firmicutes and Actinobacteriota and those of Prevotella, Lachnospiraceae NK3A20 group, Eubacterium coprostanoligenes group, Acetitomaculum, Lachnospiraceae unclassified, NK4A214 group, and Anaeromusa-Anaeroarcus changed (increased or decreased) across the FLX+S, FLX+O, and FLX+SO diets. However, all these changes in the relative abundance of the ruminal bacterial taxa were not conclusively associated with the effect of diets on milk enterolactone. Diets did not affect ruminal pH and concentrations of NH 3 -N and total VFA. Dry matter intake and yields of milk, milk fat, and milk true protein all decreased in cows fed FLX+O or FLX+SO. Yields of milk total odd-chain FA, branched-chain FA, total <16C FA, and total 16C FA decreased with feeding FLX+O and FLX+SO. The apparent total-tract digestibilities of DM and OM were lowest in the FLX+S and FLX+O diets, with CP and ADF digestibilities lowest in cows receiving FLX+S or FLX+O, respectively. Urinary excretion of total N was lowest with feeding SBM. Contrarily, diets did not affect the urinary excretion of total purine derivatives. In brief, despite the effect of diets on the relative abundance of several ruminal microbiota phyla and genera, we were unable to conclusively associate these changes with increased milk enterolactone in FM-containing diets versus SBM. There is a considerable interest in supplementing fish diets with bio-functional substances such as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), and research is being conducted to evaluate their effects on fish physiology, particularly on breeding performances. The objective of this study was to find out how squid-derived lipids (PUFAs) influence the Rohu carp, Labeo rohita, in terms of reproduction, and embryonic and larval growth. The experimental fish were provided with formulated diet for a duration of 90 days, containing 1 % squid-extracted lipids as a primary source of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). To determine the accuracy of the formulation, a proximate analysis of the feed ingredients and the formulated feeds were conducted. The results demonstrated remarkable reproductive outcomes during the spawning trial. Observations in fish treated with PUFAs revealed a significant improvement (p < 0.001) in sperm quality and viability, despite spawning occurring late in the breeding season. In addition, the fertilization rate (92.27 ± 1.74), hatching rate (89.33 ± 1.76), and survival rate (85.83 ± 1.74) of the offspring exhibited a statistically significant increase (p < 0.05) when subjected to PUFAs treatment in L. rohita. Consequently, the treated fish exhibited enhanced early embryonic and larval development in comparison to the control group. Hence, the current study demonstrates that the inclusion of PUFAs in the diet of Rohu carp leads to improved maturation, breeding, and developmental outcomes, specifically in terms of embryonic development and organogenesis. The aim of the study was to compare two kinds of soluble dietary fibres in a mixture with OSA-starch as wall components of linseed oil capsules. Comparison was made based on emulsion (droplet size, polydispersity index, and viscosity) and powder properties (outer structure, colour, surface oil content, and encapsulation efficiency). Additionally, linseed oil powders were applied to the food model (apple juice) and the colour, physical stability, and volatile compound profile of fortified juice were determined. Although the obtained linseed oil emulsions with different compositions of polysaccharide components showed some variation in droplet size, polydisperse index and viscosity, their encapsulation efficiency by spray-drying was very high (>98%). The powders produced had a similar structure and low surface oil content, and their 2% addition to apple juice did not change its stability and only slightly decreased its colour lightness and yellowness. However, greater differences in the volatile compounds of obtained juices were observed. Overall, the added powders reduced the volatility of aroma compounds typical of apple juice but introduced propanal and hexanal, especially the powders with the highest OSA-starch share. This work focused on the characterization of lignin residues from bioethanol production of olive stones (OS) and the use of these residues to chemically thicken epoxidized linseed oil (ELO). OS were processed by an acid/steam explosion pretreatment, followed by pre-saccharification, using different enzyme dosages, and simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. The chemical composition of the OS lignin residues was analysed, revealing a high lignin content (66.6–69.5%), and lower quantities of glucan (17.4–19.3%) and xylan (2.8–2.9%). Whereas, the structural properties of OS lignin residues were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis and size exclusion chromatography (SEC). OS lignin residues displayed the main inter-unit linkages (β–β′ resinol (51.0–59.0%), followed by β-O-4′ alkyl aryl ethers (27.0–35.2%) and β-5′ phenylcoumaran (11.4–13.2%) substructures), high molecular weights (22,000–25900 Da), low S/G ratios (1.2–1.5) and phenolic groups content (48–55 mg GAE/g lignin). Moreover, OS lignin residues were dispersed in ELO to obtain thickened formulations, which were characterized by FTIR and NMR. Oil thickening was achieved by promoting the chemical crosslinking between lignocellulose hydroxyl groups and ELO epoxy groups, enabling the compatibilization of both components. Up to tenfold viscosity increment of the resulting thickened formulations in relation to ELO's viscosity was observed. New self‐healing resin composites with tertiary amine microcapsules enhance the mechanical performance of dental restorations. However, a higher concentration of dibenzoyl peroxide (BPO) must be added to the composite to react with the core material when the microcapsules rupture, reducing the shelf life of dental materials due to their reactivity. As a result, one approach to reducing the amount of BPO dissolved in dental resin is to microencapsulate it. Thus, this manuscript described the encapsulation of BPO in poly(urea‐formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules (MC) and investigated its effect on the flexural strength of BisGMA/TEGDMA composites. To synthesize hollow MC, poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was tested as a continuous phase viscosity modifier. The MC were then infiltrated with BPO dissolved in linseed oil as core materials. PAA in continuous phase increased MC diameter due to improved air bubble stability. BPO dissolved in linseed oil was successfully infiltrated into empty PUF MC, causing the MC shell wall to expand. The dental resin had adequate adhesion to the PUF shell, which ruptured under induced stress. Thus, the MC filled with BPO as a healing agent has the potential to reduce the amount of BPO that is typically dissolved in the monomeric phase of dental materials, which can increase the shelf life of self‐healing dental materials. Summary Medium‐ and long‐chain triacylglycerols rich in α‐linolenic acid (ALA‐MLCT) are a kind of functional structural lipids that provide ω‐3 fatty acid and faster energy supply to human body. To improve the functional and nutritional properties of vegetable oils, we proposed an effective strategy for the synthesis of ALA‐MLCT by enzymatic interesterification of coconut oil and flaxseed oil. Lipase UM1 exhibited the highest interesterification activity compared with commercial Lipozyme RM IM, Lipozyme TL IM and Novozym 435. MLCT (76.59%) and ALA‐MLCT (45.03%) were obtained under the optimum reaction conditions: substrate molar ratio (coconut oil/flaxseed oil) 1:1, temperature 40 °C, Lipase UM1 loading 25 U g‑1. Furthermore, we identified 14 characteristic triacylglycerols molecules between enzymatic interesterification and physical blend by orthogonal partial least squares‐discrimination analysis (OPLS‐DA) model. The content of triunsaturated type triacylglycerols in enzymatic interesterification product (11.29%) was lower than that of physical blend (36.25%). Enzymatic interesterification product had lower solid fat content and 2.44 times oxidative stability than physical blend. These findings provide an effective strategy for the synthesis of functional ALA‐MLCT and advance the understanding of the relationship between triacylglycerols composition and physicochemical characteristics. Seed triacylglycerol (TAG), a major component of vegetable oil, consists of a glycerol esterified with three fatty acids. Vegetable oil has industrial applications and is widely used as edible oil. The increasing demand for plant oils, owing to population growth, it is crucial to enhance the oil content in seeds. We found castor WRINKLED1A (RcWRI1A) and R2R3-type MYB domain protein 306 (RcMYB306) which have homology with Arabidopsis WRI1 (AtWRI1) and AtMYB96 which regulate genes involved in fatty acid and TAG synthesis, respectively. These castor genes were separately and jointly overexpressed using seed-specific promoters in an oil crop, camelina (Camelina sativa). Overexpression of RcWRI1A, RcMYB306, or RcWRI1A + RcMYB306 increased the total seed oil content in camelina. However, this increase was not significantly different from that observed during the overexpression of RcWRI1A or/and RcMYB306. RcWRI1A overexpression increased the fatty acid content, including 16:0, 18:2, 18:3. Contrastingly, RcMYB306 overexpression increased the 18:1, 18:2, 18:3, 20:0 and 20:1 fatty acid. In the RcWRI1A + RcMYB306 lines, changes in fatty acid composition demonstrated the combined effects of these transcription factors. The design of eco‐friendly active food packaging systems based on biobased polymeric materials is a growing field of research because of the pressing concern for sustainable development. Herein, monolayer ternary thermoplastic films composed of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), gallic acid (GA, 2.5% w/w relative to PLA), and a plasticizer (poly(ethylene glycol) [PEG] or epoxidized linseed oil [ELO], 5.0 and 7.5% w/w relative to PLA) are prepared via melt‐mixing followed by compression molding. The ensuing plasticized and self‐standing PLA/GA films are translucent and have good mechanical properties (Young's modulus ~2 GPa) and welding performance. The incorporation of GA yields films with ultraviolet‐light barrier properties (transmittance below 40%, 200–400 nm), antioxidant capacity (radical scavenging activity above 94%), and antibacterial activity against the methicillin‐resistant strain of Staphylococcus aureus (minimum of 3‐log reduction colony forming units mL−1). These thermoplastic films are easily degradable via enzymatic degradation with proteinase K from Tritirachium album, reaching weight loss values of 100% after 9 days. The films plasticized with PEG present slightly better antibacterial action and enzymatic degradation, whereas those plasticized with ELO exhibit marginally higher surface hydrophobicity and thermal stability. The two major determining factors for Alzheimer's disease (AD) are genetics and lifestyle. Alleles of the apolipoprotein E (APOE) gene play important roles in the development of late-onset AD, with APOEɛ4 increasing risk, APOEɛ3 being neutral, and APOEɛ2 reducing risk. Several modifiable lifestyle factors have been studied in terms of how they can modify the risk of AD. Among these factors are dietary pattern, nutritional supplements such as omega-3 fatty acids, and B vitamins, physical exercise, and obesity, and vitamin D. The Western diet increases risk of AD, while dietary patterns such as the Mediterranean and vegetarian/vegan diets reduce risk. Foods associated with reduced risk include coffee, fruits and vegetables, whole grains and legumes, and fish, while meat and ultraprocessed foods are associated with increased risk, especially when they lead to obesity. In multi-country ecological studies, the amount of meat in the national diet has the highest correlation with risk of AD. The history of research regarding dietary patterns on risk of AD is emphasized in this review. The risk of AD can be modified starting at least by mid-life. People with greater genetic risk for AD would benefit more by choosing lifestyle factors to reduce and/or delay incidence of AD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sol LeWitt, a pioneer of conceptual art, created during his career over 1350 wall drawings, including the Wall Drawing #736 (1993) at the Center for Contemporary Art Luigi Pecci in Prato (Prato, Italy). The painting, executed by Andrea Marescalchi and Antony Sansotta under LeWitt's instructions, features a grid of coloured rectangles obtained by overlapping different layers of inks. During a 2021 restoration by the Wall Paintings and Stuccoes Department of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure (Firenze, Italy), an in-depth investigation of the composition and the materials used by LeWitt's assistants in producing Wall Drawing #736 was performed. A multi-analytical approach entailing Raman spectroscopy, high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to diode array and high-resolution mass spectrometry, gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), and pyrolysis coupled with GC–MS was applied. Our results revealed the use of animal glue, shellac resin, paraffin wax, linseed oil, and various organic pigments. The binder in the preparation layer was identified as poly(vinyl acetate), while poly(n-butyl methacrylate) was determined as a fixative. This research provided valuable insights into LeWitt's techniques. The acquired knowledge on the paint technique is highly relevant in supporting conservators in restoration and consolidating the many wall drawings produced exploiting the same technique all over the world. Improving the durability of short-rotation wood can be achieved through chemical and thermal modification. Chemical and thermal modification can have an impact on the physicochemical properties of wood, which can affect wood's surface characteristics and its resistance to weathering. The purpose of this study was to investigate the surface characteristics and artificial weathering resistance of chemically and thermally modified short-rotation teak wood coated with linseed oil (LO)-, tung oil (TO)-, and commercial oil-based coatings consisting of a mixture of linseed oil and tung oil (LT) and commercial oil-based polyurethane resin (LB) coatings. The short-rotation teak woods were prepared in untreated and treated with furfuryl alcohol (FA), thermal treatment (HT) at 150 and 220 °C, and combination of glycerol–maleic anhydride (GMA) impregnation with thermal treatment at 150 and 220 °C. The surface characteristics measured were surface free energy, wettability, Persoz hardness, bonding quality, and color changes before and after artificial weathering exposure. The results showed that chemical and thermal modifications treatment tended to reduce total surface free energy (SFE), hardness, wettability, and bonding quality. FA and GMA at 220 °C treatments provided homogenization effect on surface characteristics, especially in total SFE and wettability. The total SFE of untreated wood ranged from 45.00 to 51.13 mN/m, and treated wood ranged from 40.58 to 50.79 mN/m. The wettability of oil-based coating according to K-value ranged from 0.20 to 0.54. TO presented better photostability than LO. Short-rotation teak wood coated with oil-based commercial coatings presented better weathering resistance compared to pure natural drying oil. Commercial oil-based coatings provided better weathering protection for the chemically and thermally modified teak wood. The application of oil-based coatings on chemically and thermally modified short-rotation teak is being considered for the development of a better wood-protection system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

1. This study was conducted to assess the effects of different dietary omega 6:3 ratios fed to male and female Japanese quail breeders on incubation performance, chick quality and progeny performance. 2. A completely randomised design was used, with five diets containing different ratios of vegetable oils rich in linoleic acid (LA from soybean oil) or α-linolenic acid (ALA from linseed oil) with LA/ALA ratios of 13.75:1, 10.69:1, 7.63:1, 4.57:1 and 1.48:1 with 12 cage replicates containing six birds each. 3. There was a quadratic effect of the LA/ALA ratio on total hatchability (p < 0.011), fertile hatchability (p = 0.046) and total mortality (p = 0.046). There was no effect on fertility (p > 0.05). The LA/ALA ratios of 1.48 and 13.75 fed to both hens and cockerels or hens resulted in greater fertility, as measured by the number of days after copulation during which fertile eggs were laid and the number of points of hydrolysis on the perivitelline membrane. A decreasing linear effect (p < 0.0001) was observed on chick length and an increasing linear effect on body weight at 1 day of age. There were no effects on progeny performance. 4. The LA/ALA ratio affected yolk mineral matter (p = 0.009), crude protein (p = 0.091), chick mineral matter (p < 0.038) and ether extract (p < 0.0001) contents. Maternal diet affected the fatty acid profile of egg yolk and chick liver, indicating that dietary contents were transferred to eggs and chicks. 5. Fertile egg production increased with lower LA/ALA ratios. Therefore, linseed oil can be used together with soybean oil to formulate diets for female Japanese quail obtain LA/ALA ratios between 4:1 and 10:1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Lovastatin (LS) is the cholesterol-lowering drug in the statin class, but it has poor oral bioavailability due to its high metabolism and low solubility, which affect its clinical efficacy. To overcome limitations associated with LS, the current study sought to develop a transdermal nanoemulsion using linseed oil and finally convert it into a nanogel formulation. Nanoemulsion (NE) was prepared using the spontaneous titration method. Different components of NE were selected based on solubility study and pseudo ternary phase diagrams were constructed using the titration method to determine the concentration range of components. Carbopol 934 was used to convert NE to nanogel (NG). The NE was selected based on the stability study and the composition of optimized NE consists of oil phase as 10%w/w linseed oil, 35%w/w Tween 80, and Polyethylene glycol 400 in 1:1 as Smix, and 55%w/w aqueous phase as water. The optimized NE (NE3) was characterized for various parameters and the formulation NE3 was found with desired globular size (108.9 ± 3.12 nm), polydispersity index 0.257 ± 0.015, zeta potential (−16.93 ± 1.12 mV), and spherical morphology. NE3 was combined with carbopol 934 to convert into NG and further characterized for pH, rheological behavior, and in vitro permeation study. The in vitro drug permeation study showed that the NG (33.69 ± 0.75 μg/cm²/h) and NE (36.63 ± 0.55 μg/cm²/h) have maximum permeation flux rate as compared to LS suspension (6.41 ± 1.13 μg/cm²/hours). These results conclude that the NG formulation of LS can be a safe and effective alternative to an oral formulation of LS with enhanced permeation characteristics for transdermal delivery. Studies investigating the effects of flaxseed oil on lipid profiles, weight loss, and inflammatory markers have produced inconsistent results. This systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aimed to explore the impact of flaxseed oil on these parameters in hemodialysis patients. The study protocol was registered online (PROSPERO number: CRD42023484076). The meta‐analyses showed a significant decrease in triglyceride (TG) levels (WMD = −85.78 mg/dL, 95% CI: −155.24 to −16.32, I2 = 98.32%) and C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels (WMD = −2.66 mg/L, 95% CI: −4.07 to −1.24, I2 = 92.26%) following consumption of flaxseed oil. Subgroup analyses revealed significant changes in LDL‐C, HDL‐C, and TC levels only in trials utilizing a dosage higher than 10 g per day and using ground flaxseed oil. Based on the results, flaxseed oil improves CRP and TG levels, and higher doses positively affect lipid profiles. However, it has no significant effect on anthropometric measures. The incorporation of a blackcurrant pomace extract (BPE) at 2.5%, 5.0% and 10.0% into an emulsion gel based on high oleic sunflower and linseed oils was examined in order to obtain a functional ingredient to be used as a pork backfat replacer in Vienna sausages. The replacement of the pork backfat with the control emulsion gel reduced the cooking loss but negatively affected the color by decreasing L* and a* values as compared with the traditional product. A decrease in the n-6/n-3 ratio from 10.99 to around 1.54 (by 7 times) was achieved through reformulation, while the PUFA/SFA ratio increased from 0.49 to 1.09. The incorporation of BPE did not have a major impact on the fatty acid profile and improved color by increasing redness, but negatively affected the texture by increasing hardness, gumminess and share force as compared with the sausages reformulated without extract. BPE reduced the pH and the thermal stability of the emulsion gels, increased cooking loss and decreased moisture retention in sausages. BPE increased the oxidative stability of Vienna sausages enriched in polyunsaturated fatty acids; however, the incorporation of BPE into the emulsion gels above 5% affected the sensory scores for appearance, texture and general acceptability of the reformulated sausages. This study reports a sustainable strategy to produce polymeric materials with convenient properties, employing principles close to green chemistry, starting from epoxy/methacrylate vegetable oil monomers. New bio‐based derivatives were obtained from the well‐known epoxidized linseed oil, reacted with a renewable reagent, undecylenic acid, using suitable synthesis parameters in heterogeneous catalysis. The undecylenic double bonds grafted on the linseed oil structure were then reacted, resulting epoxidized undecylenic acid‐linseed oil (monomer 1). Monomer 1 was further used as an intermediate to obtain methacrylic derivatives: monomer 2—methacrylate epoxidized undecylenic acid‐linseed oil (bearing both epoxy and methacrylic moieties) and monomer 3—methacrylate undecylenic acid‐linseed oil (bearing only methacrylic functionalities). These three monomers were employed in different eco‐friendly ultraviolet/visible light curing attempts, proving their ability to generate polymer networks in different reaction conditions. The resulting materials were investigated through different thermal and thermo‐mechanical assays, establishing their general properties. The influence of the undecylenic fragments, epoxy/methacrylate content and curing conditions were established. Gel fraction varied according to the initial precursor composition (62/87% for the epoxy‐based materials; 58/91% for the methacrylic‐based materials). A good elasticity was observed for the new materials (Tg ranging from 20 to 44°C), and a great thermal resistance also (thermal degradation temperatures of 400/453°C for the epoxy network and 382°C for the methacrylic one), in good agreement with other studied mono‐ or di‐functional polymer matrices. Exposure to the neurotoxin trimethyltin (TMT) selectively induces hippocampal neuronal injury and astrocyte activation accompanied with resultant neuroinflammation, which causes severe behavioral, cognitive, and memory impairment. A large body of evidence suggests that flaxseed oil (FSO), as one of the richest sources of essential omega-3 fatty acids, i.e., α-linolenic acids (ALA), displays neuroprotective properties. Here, we report the preventive effects of dietary FSO treatment in a rat model of TMT intoxication. The administration of FSO (1 mL/kg, orally) before and over the course of TMT intoxication (a single dose, 8 mg/kg, i.p.) reduced hippocampal cell death, prevented the activation of astrocytes, and inhibited their polarization toward a pro-inflammatory/neurotoxic phenotype. The underlying protective mechanism was delineated through the selective upregulation of BDNF and PI3K/Akt and the suppression of ERK activation in the hippocampus. Pretreatment with FSO reduced cell death and efficiently suppressed the expression of inflammatory molecules. These beneficial effects were accompanied by an increased intrahippocampal content of n-3 fatty acids. In vitro, ALA pretreatment prevented the TMT-induced polarization of cultured astrocytes towards the pro-inflammatory spectrum. Together, these findings support the beneficial neuroprotective properties of FSO/ALA against TMT-induced neurodegeneration and accompanied inflammation and hint at a promising preventive use of FSO in hippocampal degeneration and dysfunction. Grape seeds are rich in bioactive substances, including polyphenols, terpenoids, and phytosterols. Linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) boasts a high concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), lignans, phytoestrogens, and soluble fibers, all contributing to its therapeutic potential. In this study, we pioneered the formulation of an oil blend (GL) combining grape seed oil (G) and golden linseed oil (GL) in equal volumes (1:1 (v/v)) and we evaluated in terms of the nutritional, physical, and chemical properties and their influence in an in vivo experimental model. We analyzed the oils by performing physical–chemical analyses, examining the oxidative stability using Rancimat; conducting thermal analyses via thermogravimetry/derivative thermogravimetry (TG/DTG) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), performing optical UV–vis absorption analyses; examining the fluorescence emission–excitation matrix, total carotenoids, and color, and conducting metabolic assessments in an in vivo experimental trial. The fatty acid profile presented a higher fraction of linoleic acid (C18:2) in G and GL and alpha-linolenic acid (C18:3) in L. The acidity and peroxide indices were within the recommended ranges. The TG/DTG, DSC, and Rancimat analyses revealed similar behaviors, and the optical analyses revealed color variations caused by carotenoid contents in L and GL. In the in vivo trial, G (G2: 2000 mg/kg/day) promoted lower total consumption, and the blend (GL: 2000 mg/kg/day) group exhibited less weight gain per gram of consumed food. The group with G supplementation (G2: 2000 mg/kg/day) and GL had the highest levels of HDL-c. The group with L supplementation (L2: 2000 mg/kg/day) had the lowest total cholesterol level. The L2, G1 (1000 mg/kg/day), and G2 groups exhibited the lowest MCP-1 and TNF-α values. Additionally, the lowest adipocyte areas occurred in G and GL. Biodiesel is a biofuel produced from vegetable oils and animal fats. The study describes the solar-assisted biodiesel production from linseed oil and the parameter optimization using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal approach and response surface methodology (RSM). A solar paraboloid dish of collector area 6.1 m2 and concentration ratio approx. 200 is used for the transesterification process. Yearly and daily solar radiation data shows that May–June has more extended solar radiation availability during the daytime and are favorable months for experimentation. Results show that Taguchi's approach gives a maximum biodiesel yield of 89.14%, while the RSM model offers a slightly higher 91.9% yield. However, the RSM analysis predicted 91.1% (maximum biodiesel yield) at molar ratio (MR) 8.92:1, reaction time (RT) 108.97 min, and catalyst concentration (CC) 0.61 wt%, respectively. ANOVA analysis found that the MR has the highest percentage contribution of 75.67%, followed by CC (15.9%) and RT (5.69%). Biodiesel composition is determined using gas chromatography and FTIR analysis, and the various other fuel properties are measured as per ASTM testing methods. In this study, luteolin (LUT) was used as an emulsifier, benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC) as a model of nutrient delivery, and different oils [corn oil (CO), linseed oil (LO), and Antarctic krill oil (AKO)] with different carbon chain lengths and unsaturated double bond numbers as oil phases to construct Pickering emulsions. The rheological properties, photostability, storage stability, microstructure, oxidation stability, and BITC retention of Pickering emulsions were investigated to clarify the effects of different oil phases with carbon chain length and unsaturated double bond content on the properties of LUT-based Pickering emulsions. Results showed that the photostability of LUT-based Pickering emulsion was not affected by the different carbon chain lengths and unsaturated double bond content in the oil phases. Compared with LUT-CO and LUT-LO Pickering emulsion, LUT-AKO Pickering emulsion had the highest apparent viscosity and most uniform spatial structure. After 14 days of storage, the average particle size of LUT-AKO Pickering emulsion was the smallest [(213.47±2.30) nm], and the absolute value of Zeta potential and the embedding rate of BITC were the highest, reaching (42.73±1.96) mV and (65.25±1.45)%, respectively. The oxidation stability of LUT-AKO Pickering emulsion was slightly lower than those of other Pickering emulsions because of the strong AKO reactive activation. This study identified that AKO with a longer carbon chain was more suitable for preparing stable Pickering emulsions. The Arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) is a species indigenous to the Arctic and has developed unique lipid metabolism, but the mechanisms remain unclear. Here, the significantly increased body weight of Arctic foxes was consistent with the significantly increased serum very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), and the 40% crude fat diet further increased the Arctic fox body weight. The enhanced body weight gain stems primarily from increased subcutaneous adipose tissue accumulation. The adipose triacylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine were significantly greater in Arctic foxes. The adipose fatty-acid synthase content was significantly lower in Arctic foxes, highlighting the main role of exogenous fatty-acids in fat accumulation. Considering the same diet, liver-derived fat dominates adipose expansion in Arctic foxes. Liver transcriptome analysis revealed greater fat and VLDL synthesis in Arctic foxes, consistent with the greater VLDL. Glucose homeostasis wasn’t impacted in Arctic foxes. And the free fatty-acids in adipose, which promote insulin resistance, also did not differ between groups. However, the hepatic glycogen was greater in Arctic foxes and transcriptome analysis revealed upregulated glycogen synthesis, improving glucose homeostasis. These results suggest that the superior fat accumulation capacity and distinct characteristics of hepatic and adipose lipid and glucose metabolism facilitate glucose homeostasis and massive fat accumulation in Arctic foxes. In this study, an anti-solvent method is employed to encapsulate linseed oil (LO) into phosphorylated ethyl cellulose (P-EC), successfully preparing microcapsules (LO@P-EC). Scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy experimental results indicate the introduction of phosphoric groups into P-EC, and the successful encapsulation of LO within the microcapsules, which are spherical with an average diameter of 145 μm. Hartmann tests reveal that the introduction of phosphate groups reduces the microcapsule flame propagation height by 43.75% and the average flame propagation speed by 55.67%. Thermodynamic analyses based on the CoatsRedfern equation are performed to determine the changes in activation energy during thermal degradation. Furthermore, fitting analysis shows that the apparent activation energy of microcapsules with shell material of P-EC significantly increases, confirming the evident thermodynamic inhibition of microcapsule deflagration by P-EC. This is mainly attributed to the formation of a char structure by the P-EC shell during combustion, which hinders the progress of the combustion reaction. When immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl corrosive solution for 15 days, the microcapsule-filled epoxy resin (LO@P-EC/EP) coating exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, which is mainly attributed to the excellent self-healing properties of the microcapsule core LO. Increasing toughness of brittle polymer without losing modulus of elasticity and tensile strength is highly important for enlarging the range of applications. In this study, polylactic acid (PLA) modified with epoxidized linseed oil (ELO) and polypropylene-grafted maleic anhydride (PPgMA) with a good balance of toughness and rigidity was successfully prepared by melt mixing procedure. The addition of PPgMA/ELO with appropriate proportions (3:1, 5:1, and 5:5 wt %) resulted in PLA modified samples with significant ductility improvement (around 2200% of elongation at break and 1800% of tensile toughness compared to the neat PLA) with low decrease in Young modulus and tensile strength. This feature was attributed to improved interfacial interactions and the formation of crosslinked structures at the interface that also increased viscosity of the melting system and cold crystallization temperature of PLA. The scanning electron microscopy revealed the presence of small domains of modified systems. The effectiveness of reactive compatibilization among the components was also suggested by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and thermal degradation analysis. The combination of toughness, modulus of elasticity and good thermal properties make this low-cost and scalable ecofriendly material a promising candidate for use as biodegradable plastic in several fields including medical applications and packaging. Introduction: Omentin-1 is a newly discovered adipokine often secreted from visceral adipose tissue and is inversely related to obesity. Additionally, the adipocyte-specific protein adiponectin plays a significant role in the metabolic effects of obesity. This study aimed to investigate the interventions of submaximal aerobic exercise and flaxseed oil supplementation on the expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 hormone genes in obese rats. Methods: Thirty laboratory rats were divided into five equal groups: a) a control group (with normal food consumption), and four groups with highfat food consumption including b) linseed oil supplement, c) a submaximal exercise program, d) a combination of exercise intervention and flax oil supplement, and e) sham group (high-fat diet). An aerobic training program of running with an intensity equal to 55-70% vo2max was implemented five days a week for eight weeks. The intervention of linseed oil, one gram per kilogram of the weight of obese rats, was also administered to the rats five days a week for eight weeks. Results: The exercise program intervention increased the gene expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 hormones in visceral white adipose tissue of obese rats (P<0.05). Flaxseed oil supplementation had a significant effect on the expression of the adiponectin hormone gene (P<0.05), but there was no change in the expression of the omentin-1 gene (P>0.05). However, the simultaneous intervention of independent variables significantly affected the gene expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 hormones in rats (P<0.05). Conclusion: The simultaneous intervention of submaximal aerobic exercise and linseed oil supplementation has a more pronounced effect than either of the two independent variables on increasing the expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 genes, and it likely leads to the control of body weight in obese rats. To tackle the ageing phenomena of precious artworks, the binding media have been increasingly explored in cultural heritage. When siccative oils are employed as paint media, medium-chain dicarboxylic fatty acids (DFAs), also known as dioic acids, are generated from unsaturated fatty acyl chains by hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl radicals during the drying process. Hitherto, gas-chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (MS) has represented the foremost technique for the investigation of DFAs upon proper derivatization reactions, yet the current work aims to introduce an alternative approach based on reversed-phase liquid chromatography, negative-ion-mode electrospray ionization with high-resolution/accuracy MS and tandem MS. Painting reconstructions of linseed oil mixed with common inorganic pigments such as chrome yellow and cadmium red were investigated for their content of suberic (C 8), azelaic (C 9), sebacic (C 10), and undecanedioic (C 11) acids. For the identification of these DFAs as unbounded species, retention time data followed by confirmation of their accurate m/z measurements and a detailed analysis of their fragmentation patterns via tandem MS were used. To estimate the quantity of DFAs, samples were spiked with a suitable internal standard before lipid extraction. This analytical strategy was successfully applied to three 50-year-old oil paintings, using samples of only a few milligrams (i.e. , 25–50 mg). Notably, a difference in DFA profiles was observed within the artwork, with yellow pigments exhibiting relatively lower content compared to red ones. Spectroscopic techniques revealed alterations relevant to the chemical composition of these pigments during the ageing process. Likely the chromate ion, a component of chrome yellow pigment, undergoes oxidation which may hinder the generation of hydroxyl and hydroperoxyl radicals by the Fenton reaction, as the iron catalyst naturally occurring in the drying oil is potentially affected. Some physicochemical characteristics and elemental composition of refined sunflower oil, as well as linseed oil added to it, were investigated; linseed oil and olive oil; truffle oil and rosemary oil. Fatty acid analysis shows substantial increases in monounsaturated fatty acids with the addition of truffle and rosemary oils (up to about 78 %). With the same supplements, a significant oxidative stability over 20 hours was also observed. High concentrations of chlorophyll were found with the addition of rosemary oils and oils of linseed oil and olive oil. ß-carotene was affected three to six times in all supplements compared to the commonly refined oil. Eight elements (Mg, Cr, Mn, Zn, Ni, As, Pd and Cd) were analyzed in the studied oils, no presence of toxic elements As and Cd (< 0.02 mg kg-1), lead was up to 0.04 mg kg-1. The remaining elements vary in different concentrations depending on the additive oils used. The fluorescence spectra of the tested samples were obtained for excitation wavelengths of 380 nm, and the fluorescence maxima allowed to determine the relationship between the optical and chemical properties of the samples. Background: Using anaesthetics is an important application in aquaculture especially where the fish transportation, vaccination, grading, sorting activities and many other handling operations have been conducted during the different stages of production periods in the farms or hatcheries. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of oregano essential oil (OO) as an anaesthetic for Nile tilapia and to determine the optimal concentration and post‐application stress effects compared to clove oil (CO). Methods: Nile tilapia juveniles were exposed to different concentrations of OO (20–40–60–80–100 mg L−1) and CO (50 mg L−1) for different time periods to determine the optimal concentration and exposure time. After the effective concentration of OO was determined, in the second experiment, stress parameters (glucose, plasma cortisol) were analysed after 0, 2, 6, 12 and 24 h of application. The results compared to the control group and CO results. Results: The study found that OO which has carvacrol compound higher than 78% was an efficient anaesthetic for Nile tilapia, and the effective concentration was found to be 60 mg L−1. No significant differences were found between opercular beats in any concentration of OO and CO. Basal glucose level in blood without anaesthesia application and recorded at 39.33 mg dL−1 and significantly lower than OO and CO at first two sampling points, 0 and 2 h (p < 0.05). According to plasma cortisol level results, although CO experimental group showed secondary stress response at 12 h (17.91 ± 4.21 ng mL−1), OO and CO group cortisol levels decreased at 24 h after anaesthesia application 7.13 ± 0.14and 7.01 ± 0.54 ng mL−1, respectively, below the control group cortisol concentration (12.28 ± 1.81 ng mL−1). Conclusions: These findings have important implications for the aquaculture industry as the use of OO as an anaesthetic could reduce the stress and mortality associated with traditional anaesthetics. Further research is needed to evaluate the efficacy of OO as an anaesthetic agent for other fish species and to determine the optimal concentration and exposure time for different species. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of different ultrasonic power and time pretreatments on the structures and gel properties of the flaxseed gum and soybean protein isolate composite gel induced by TG enzyme. Methods: The structural characteristics, molecular conformation, and micro-network structures of the composite gel under varying ultrasonic conditions were analyzed using a texture analyzer, laser particle size meter, circular dichroism (CD), fluorescence spectrum, and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results: The 50% power ultrasound pretreatment for 10 min could significantly improve the hardness, adhesiveness, chewiness, cohesiveness and water-holding property of the composite gel, and reduce its adhesiveness. After 50% power ultrasound pretreatment for 10 min, the α-helix and β-turn content of composite gel proteins decreased, and the content of β-folding and irregular curls increased, and the fluorescence intensity increased, which was conducive to the improvement of the functional properties of the gel. The microstructure of the composite gel became ordered from disorder, the network density increased, the pore diameter became smaller, and the pore wall was thickened. While after increasing the ultrasound power to 80%, the gel properties fluctuated only slightly and the microstructure was destroyed. Conclusion: 50% power ultrasound pretreatment for 10 min can significantly improve the gel properties and network structure of TG enzyme cross-linked flaxseed gum-soybean protein isolate composite. Alkyl esters of sinapic acid were enzymatically synthesized by using hexanol CH3(CH2)5OH and palmitoyl chloride CH3(CH2)14COCl as acyl donors. The lipid oxidation retarding activities of these conjugates were determined using different methods in two lipid media; bulk flaxseed oil and its fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Palmitoyl sinapate more efficiently slowed down the formation of primary and secondary oxidation products in both lipid media. In terms of DPPH radical scavenging activity, β‐carotene bleaching and TEAC assays, it provided higher activity compared to hexyl ester in FAME. Hexyl ester was more active in bulk oil in terms of antioxidant activity analyses. The alkyl side chain length of these molecules had an impact on their antioxidative activity and this effect differed according to the environment in which they were used. Nutrition plays a pivotal role in overall health and well-being, with emerging evidence suggesting its influence on acute pain perception and management. This review provides a comprehensive synthesis of the existing literature on the relationship between nutrition and acute pain, covering various dietary factors such as macronutrients, micronutrients, and dietary patterns. The analysis highlights the impact of essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and proteins, which possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Carbohydrates, particularly high-glycaemic index variants, are explored for their potential to modulate pain through neurotransmitter activity and energy provision, while high-fat diets are discussed for their potential to exacerbate pain via inflammatory processes. Micronutrients such as vitamin D and magnesium are noted for their role in reducing pain sensitivity through immunomodulatory and neuroregulatory mechanisms. Dietary patterns, notably the Mediterranean and DASH diets, are also scrutinized for their potential analgesic effects, linked to their anti-inflammatory and cardiovascular benefits. These dietary approaches emphasize high consumption of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and healthy fats, which collectively contribute to reduced inflammation and improved pain outcomes. Nutritional alterations present intriguing supplementary techniques for controlling acute pain in cancer patients. Research suggests that integrating omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidant-rich foods, and particular amino acids such as arginine and glutamine can reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, potentially improving standard analgesic treatments. These therapies may dramatically enhance the quality of life for cancer patients experiencing acute discomfort. The review further goes into the complex mechanisms underlying the nutritional modulation of acute pain, including the roles of neurotransmitter function, oxidative stress, neuronal plasticity, and the gut-brain axis. Introduction: Omentin-1 is a newly discovered adipokine often secreted from visceral adipose tissue and is inversely related to obesity. Additionally, the adipocyte-specific protein adiponectin plays a significant role in the metabolic effects of obesity. This study aimed to investigate the interventions of submaximal aerobic exercise and flax oil supplementation on the expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 hormone genes in obese rats.Methods: Thirty laboratory rats were divided into five equal groups: a) a control group (with normal food consumption), and four groups with high-fat food consumption including b) linseed oil supplement, c) a submaximal exercise program, d) a combination of exercise intervention and flax oil supplement, and e) sham group (high-fat diet). An aerobic training program of running with an intensity equal to 55-70% vo2max was implemented five days a week for eight weeks. The intervention of linseed oil, one gram per kilogram of the weight of obese rats, was also administered to the rats five days a week for eight weeks.Results: The exercise program intervention increased the gene expression of adiponectin and omentin-1 hormones in visceral white adipose tissue of obese rats (P0.05). Smart polymeric coatings play a crucial role in protecting steel surfaces from corrosion and wear. One of progressive smart behavior is self-healing behavior especially in self-healing epoxy coatings. Creating or improving the second smart behavior is known as a new trend for these smart materials. This study aims to investigate the effects of ZrO 2 nanoparticles on the self-lubricating behavior as the second smart behavior of the linseed oil-loaded microcapsule/epoxy composite coatings. To do so, the in-situ polymerization method was used for the synthesis of linseed oil-loaded microcapsule. Results showed that the average size of prepared linseed oil-loaded microcapsules was 563 nm. The composite coatings were prepared by different content of ZrO 2 nanoparticles (0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 15 wt%) and constant content of linseed oil-loaded microcapsules (5 wt%). The tribological performance of samples was studied using pin-on-disk test. The worn surface of the samples was also studied using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM) images. Results proved that the frictional coefficient and wear rate of the samples were significantly decreased by increasing the concentrations of the ZrO 2 nanoparticles up to 9 wt%. The lowest friction coefficient and wear rate values of 0.085 and 0.142 × 10−6 mm3/Nm were obtained for 5 wt% linseed oil-loaded microcapsules/epoxy with 9 wt% ZrO 2 which were about 82 % and 88 % lower than those of pure epoxy coating. Our objective was to determine whether feeding flaxseed oil (∼50% C18:3n-3 cis), high oleic soybean oil (∼70% C18:1 cis -9), or milk fat (∼50% C16:0) alters hepatic expression of PC , PCK1 , and PCK2 and the flow of carbons from propionate and pyruvate into the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle in preruminating calves. Male Holstein calves (n = 40) were assigned to a diet of skim milk with either: 3% milk fat (MF; n = 8), 3% flaxseed oil (Flax; n = 8), 3% high oleic soybean oil (HOSO; n = 8), 1.5% MF + 1.5% high oleic soybean oil (MF-HOSO; n = 8), or 1.5% MF + 1.5% flaxseed oil (MF-Flax; n = 8) from d 14 to d 21 postnatal. At d 21 postnatal, a liver biopsy was taken for gene expression and metabolic flux analysis. Liver explants were incubated in [U-13C] propionate and [U-13C] pyruvate to trace carbon flux through TCA cycle intermediates or with [U-14C] lactate, [1-14C] palmitic acid, or [2-14C] propionate to quantify substrate oxidation to CO 2 and acid-soluble products. Compared with other treatments, plasma C18:3n-3 cis was 10 times higher and C18:1 cis -9 was 3 times lower in both Flax (Flax and MF-Flax) treatments. PC , PCK1 , and PCK2 expression and flux of [U-13C] pyruvate as well as [U-13C] propionate were not different among treatments. PC expression was negatively correlated with the enrichment of citrate M+5 and malate M+3, and PCK2 was negatively correlated with citrate M+5, suggesting that when expression of these enzymes is increased, carbon from pyruvate enters the TCA cycle via PC-mediated carboxylation, and then oxaloacetate is converted to phosphoenolpyruvate via PCK2. Acid-soluble product formation and PC expression were reduced in HOSO (MF-HOSO and HOSO) treatments compared with Flax (MF-Flax and Flax), indicating that fatty acids regulate PC expression and carbon flux, but that fatty acid flux control points are not connected to PC , PCK1 , or PCK2. In conclusion, fatty acids regulate hepatic expression of PC , PCK1 , and PCK2 , and carbon flux, but the point of control is distinct. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
