The ring-opening reaction of aromatic molecules is a significant and critical process for the construction of carbon-based and related functional materials with desired structures and properties. However, direct observation and control of such a process at a molecular level remains a challenge. Here, we employed the octahedral voids in endohedral metallofullerene (EMF) crystals as nanoreactors to accommodate aromatic m-xylene molecules and regulate the ring-opening reaction of guest m-xylene by applying a high pressure. We found that the ring-opening reaction of m-xylenes strongly depends on the degree of charge transfer between m-xylene and EMF, which can be tuned by varying the electronegativity of the carbon cages with different endohedral metals. A positive relationship between the electronegativity of fullerenes and the reactivity of m-xylene was revealed. This work demonstrates the potential of tuning the ring-opening reaction of aromatic molecules by charge transfer and manipulates the reaction at a molecule level, providing new insights into the synthesis of carbon materials and fullerene derivatives. In recent years, interest in synthetic C4F7N as a gas insulator has been growing due to its unique insulation properties and low global warming potential. In spite of this, very few studies are devoted to the analysis of the electric breakdown of C4F7N and its mixtures with other dilutants such as CO2 and N2. In the present paper, we use a two-dimensional fluid model to analyze the electrical breakdown of the atmospheric pressure C4F7N/N2 mixture. We establish the influence of the C4F7N fraction in the mixture and the cathode voltage rise rate on the breakdown voltage. We find that the ratio between the electron attachment frequency and the voltage rise rate defines the streamer parameters. Namely, if the time scale of electron attachment to C4F7N is much faster than the voltage rise rate, the plasma electronegativity of the streamer body and of its head is extremely high, and it is difficult to define exactly the streamer head location. Realization of planar tetracoordinate arrangements of nitrogen atoms is challenging because their preference for localized bonding (caused by its high electronegativity) makes them typically tricoordinate. This is especially true for the more electronegative oxygen atoms. Herein, we computationally designed two clusters NBe4H4− and OBe4H4; they contain a planar tetracoordinate nitrogen (ptN) and planar tetracoordinate oxygen (ptO) atom, respectively. Remarkably, the former is a dynamically stable global minimum, while the latter is not. The bonding analysis proves that planar tetracoordination in NBe4H4− favors over tricoordination because of the presence of multicenter delocalized bonds. In contrast, the planar tricoordination dominates due to its weak delocalized bonding ability of oxygen in the OBe4H4 cluster. Moreover, the 6σ/2π double aromaticity due to multicenter delocalized bonds allows the NBe4H4− cluster to obtain additional stability. This paper aims to investigate the behavior of LiMgN half-Heusler (HH) semiconductor doped by transition metals (TM  =  Mn, Fe, Co and Ni). HHs belong to the F 4 ̄ 3 m space group (No. 216) and have a zinc blende structure that can be described by the chemical symbol XYZ. The research methodology utilized in this investigation involves theoretical analysis based on the principles of density functional theory (DFT). The studied LiMg 0. 9 5 TM 0. 0 5 N alloy displayed the half-metallicity behavior when TM  =  Fe, Co and Ni. Hence, these systems could be a promising candidate in spintronic application thanks to their ferromagnetism. The principal contribution to magnetism in the full LiMg 0. 9 5 TM 0. 0 5 N alloys comes from the Mn, Fe, Co and Ni doping. The partial magnetic moments of these elements are significantly greater than the combined partial magnetic moments of Li, Mg and N. When comparing LiMg 0. 9 5 Mn 0. 0 5 N to LiMg 0. 9 5 Fe 0. 0 5 N, 5Co 0. 0 5 N and LiMg 0. 9 5 Ni 0. 0 5 N, it is important to note that the exchange splitting energy Δ (e + , e −) TM associated to their spin up and spin down were discussed. The variation of Mn(3d) in relation to ( e + , e − ) is larger than that of Fe, Co and Ni. Therefore, Δ (e + , e −) Mn > Δ (e + , e −) Fe > Δ (e + , e −) Co > Δ (e + , e −) Ni . Furthermore, there is a correlation between the magnetic moment and electronegativity trend of the TM dopant. The present work focuses on the light‐induced behavior of citrinin derivatives in relation to atomic electronegativity. A detailed theoretical study on the photophysical properties and excited‐state behavior of fluorescent compounds of citrinin (Cit‐O, Cit‐S, and Cit‐Se, with different atomic electronegativity) has been conducted, and the effect of electronegativity on the proton transfer in this system has been explained. First, the relevant hydrogen bond parameters and infrared vibrational spectra of the optimized geometrical configurations have been insightfully investigated. It is elucidated that the hydrogen bond is strengthened after photoexcitation, and it provides a driving force for excited‐state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT). In addition, the frontier molecular orbitals were analyzed, and the intramolecular charge transfer process in all Cit systems, the phenomenon of charge redistribution, facilitates the ESIPT reaction. By constructing potential energy surfaces for different transfer paths, the atomic electronegativity impact on the ESIPT dynamical behavior of the Cit system was determined. This work clarifies the mechanism of the intramolecular proton transfer process in the excited state of citrinin molecules and complements the theoretical study of the atomic electronegativity‐regulated citrinin system, which provides a corresponding theoretical basis for the design and synthesis of new luminescence‐adjustable citrinin systems. Grain boundary hardening and precipitation hardening are important mechanisms for enhancing the strength of metals. Here, we show that these two effects can be amplified simultaneously in nanocrystalline compositionally complex alloys (CCAs), leading to near-theoretical strength and large deformability. We develop a model nanograined (TiZrNbHf)98Ni2 alloy via thermodynamic design. The Ni solutes, which has a large negative mixing enthalpy and different electronegativity to Ti, Zr, Nb and Hf, not only produce Ni-enriched local chemical inhomogeneities in the nanograins, but also segregate to grain boundaries. The resultant alloy achieves a 2.5 GPa yield strength, together with work hardening capability and large homogeneous deformability to 65% compressive strain. The local chemical inhomogeneities impede dislocation propagation and encourage dislocation multiplication to promote strain hardening. Meanwhile, Ni segregates to grain boundaries and enhances cohesion, suppressing the grain growth and grain boundary cracking found while deforming the reference TiZrNbHf alloy. Our alloy design strategy thus opens an avenue, via solute decoration at grain boundaries combined with local chemical inhomogeneities inside the grains, towards ultrahigh strength and large plasticity in nanostructured alloys. [Display omitted] Radical-nonradical co-dominant pathways have become a hot topic in advanced oxidation, but achieving this on transition metal sulfides (TMS) remains challenging because their inherently higher electron and spin densities always induce radicals rather than nonradicals. Herein, a biosurfactant layer (BLR) was introduced to redistribute the electron and spin structure of nanoscale iron sulfide (FeS), which allowed both radical and nonradical to co-dominate the catalytic reaction. The resulting BLR-encased FeS hybrid (BLR@FeS) exhibited satisfactory removal efficiency (98.5 %) for hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2) activation, outperforming both the constituent components [FeS (70.9 %) and BLR (86.2 %)]. Advanced characterizations showed that C, O, N -related sites (−C O and −N C) in BLR attracted electrons in FeS due to their strong electronegativity and electron-withdrawing capacity, which not only decreased electron density in FeS, but also resulted in a shift of the Fe/S sites from the high-spin to the medium-spin state. The reaction routes established by the BLR@FeS/H 2 O 2 system maintained desirable stability against environmental interferences such as common inorganic anions, humic acid and changes in pH. Aiming at intramolecular frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) based on soft Lewis acidic bismuth centers, a phosphine function was combined with a dichloridobismuthane unit on a phenylene backbone utilizing a scrambling approach. The reaction between two equivalents of BiCl3 and (o‐(Ph2P)C6H4)3Bi yielded (o‐(Ph2P)C6H4)BiCl2(THF), the structure of which indicated Bi...P interactions and thus a pronounced Lewis acidity at the bismuth center that was confirmed by the Gutmann‐Beckett method. However, the system turned out to be insufficient to be utilized for FLP reactivity. Hence, the chloride ligands were exchanged by iodide and C2F5 substituents, respectively. Despite a lower electronegativity the iodide compound exhibits a shorter Bi...P contact, while the C2F5 substituents led to a further decrease of the Lewis acidity, despite their high group electronegativity. DFT calculations rationalized this by a quenching of the Lewis acidity inherent to the σ*(Bi−C) orbital by negative hyperconjugation from occupied p‐orbitals at the F atoms. Furthermore, it turned out that the strength of the covalent Bi−X σ‐bond is a more important factor than the charge at Bi in determining the energetic accessibility and thus Lewis acidity of the antibonding σ*(Bi−C) orbital. Unraveling the mechanism driven by electronegativity‐dominated electronic configuration is crucial for developing high‐entropy alloys as efficient catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). In this work, different atoms with diverse electronegativities are explored to regulate the electrocatalytic activity of PtFeCoNi@HCS toward HER, resulting in PtFeCoNiCuCr@HCS with an overpotential of 29 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and enhanced durability surpassing that of commercial 20% Pt/C in KOH environment. Based on various physicochemical and electrochemical techniques as well as density functional theory calculations, a multi‐site synergistic effect within PtFeCoNiCuCr@HCS material is elucidated in terms of both structural composition and electrocatalytic process. Briefly, Pt and Cu serve as the fundamental elements to form face‐centered cubic crystal framework, Cr primarily functions as an electron donor to regulate the electronic configuration, Co serves as the main active site for water dissociation, and the produced hydrogen species prefer to transfer toward Pt, Fe, and Cu sites for hydrogen formation. This work is based on the productive idea of Mulliken about the alignment of electronegativities of atoms in the process of bond formation to their geometric mean value. The paper considers in detail the case of a binary molecule and obtains formulas for the dependence of the current values of the electronegativities of the two atoms forming the molecule on time, and finds a mathematical connection between the current and initial values of electronegativities. Also, in the work the theorem on the relation between the rates of alignment of electronegativities of atoms entering into chemical bonding is formulated and proved, and a special case of this theorem is considered. Carborazine (B2C2N2H6) and borazine (B3N3H6) are isoelectronic analogues of benzene (C6H6). The aromatic character of borazine have basically reached a consensus after a long period of controversy, but the related properties of carborazine are even rarely reported. In this work, we systematically investigated the geometric structure, charge distribution, frontier molecular orbital characteristics, bonding, electronic delocalization, magnetic shielding effect, and induced ring current of carborazine and borazine, and compared the studied characteristics with those of benzene to determine the aromatic character of the two analogues. The combination of multiple properties shows that although they are isoelectronic, carborazine is evidently aromatic, while borazine only exhibits rather weak aromaticity. The C atom acting as a connecting bridge between B and N atoms in carborazine reduces the electronegativity difference on the molecular backbone and enhances the electronic delocalization over the conjugated path, which is the essence of the distinct disparity of aromaticity between carborazine and borazine. The photo-corrosion issue inherent in metal sulfide semiconductors is quite pronounced, making the enhancement of electron-hole pair separation efficiency in these photocatalysts a pivotal strategy for boosting photocatalytic hydrogen production. This study introduces a novel approach where hexagonal boron nitride (h -BN) acts as a substrate for the in situ growth of ZnIn 2 S 4 nanostructures, resulting in the formation of h -BN@ZnIn 2 S 4 (BN@ZIS) nanocomposites. The electronegativity of h -BN nanosheets is harnessed to facilitate the recombination or electrostatic attraction of photogenerated holes in the ZnIn 2 S 4 photocatalyst. This strategy effectively promotes the separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs, which is crucial for enhancing photocatalytic performance. The microstructure, morphology and optical properties of BN@ZIS nanocomposites were meticulously investigated. The findings reveal that the incorporation of h -BN nanosheets loads to a more uniform dispersion of the ZnIn 2 S 4 nanostructure, which not only increases the specific surface area but also fosters a tight heterojunction interface between h -BN and ZnIn 2 S 4. In conclusion, the photocatalytic hydrogen production capabilities of the BN@ZIS nanocomposites were rigorously evaluated. Pure h -BN lacks photocatalytic hydrogen production activity. Conversely, the optimized BN@ZIS composite demonstrated a remarkable enhancement, exhibiting a photocatalytic efficiency that is 9.65 times greater than that of pristine ZnIn 2 S 4. Furthermore, a plausible mechanism by which BN@ZIS augments photocatalytic hydrogen production has been proposed. Motivated by the captivating allure of exquisitely regulated characteristics exhibited by 2‐(2‐hydroxyphenyl)‐benzoxazole and its derivatives in the domains of photochemistry and photophysics, our current endeavor primarily focuses on delving into the intricacies of photo‐induced excited state reactions for derivatives of 2,5‐bis(benzoxazol‐2‐yl)‐thiophene‐3,4‐diol (BTD). Given the profound impact of chalcogen element doping, our primary focus lies in investigating the excited state behaviors of BTD‐O, BTD‐S, and BTD‐Se fluorophores. Through simulations encompassing variations in geometry and vertical excitation charge reorganization, we unveil atomic‐electronegativity‐dependent hydrogen bonding interactions and photoexcitation‐induced charge recombination that can significantly augment the intramolecular double proton transfer (ESDPT) reaction in the excited state for BTD‐O, BTD‐S, and BTD‐Se fluorophores. By constructing potential energy surfaces and identifying transition state forms, we elucidate the ultrafast stepwise ESDPT mechanism facilitated by the low potential barriers. Moreover, we rigorously validate the chalcogen atomic electronegativity‐driven regulation of the stepwise ESDPT mechanism. With the incorporation of heteroatomic B into single-atom Fe catalyst (Fe SA -NC), a catalyst named Fe SA -BNC with a configuration of Fe-N 3 B 1 had been synthesized for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). The low electronegativity of B induced charge redistribution around the active center Fe, thereby modulating the ORR activity. The Fe SA -BNC catalyst demonstrated an outstanding ORR performance in alkaline conditions, with a half-wave potential of 0.87 V. Despite extensive research has been conducted on atomic dispersion catalysts for various reactions, altering the electronic structure of the central metal to enhance electrochemical reactivity remains a challenging task. Herein, the electrochemical reactivity was considerably enhanced by introducing heteroatomic B to adjust the d -band of single Fe center. In specific, the obtained Fe SA -BNC catalyst demonstrated an outstanding ORR performance (E 1/2 = 0.87 V) and exhibited greater long-term durability in alkaline media compared to Pt/C. The performance of Fe SA -BNC in Zn–air battery was also higher than that of Pt/C. According to theoretical calculations, a downward shift in the d -band center of Fe was induced by introducing B, thereby improving the desorption of intermediates and facilitating the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). We report the results of an ab initio study of the linear and ring structures of cadmium telluride clusters [CdTe]n (CdnTen) n ≤ 10 within the generalized gradient approximation (GGA) and Purdue–Burke–Ernzerhof (PBE) parameterization with Hubbard corrections (GGA+U). We optimized the linear and ring isomers for each size to obtain the lowest-energy structures and to understand their growth behavior. The cases of n < 8 for ring-type structures and n = 6 and 9 for linear-type structures were found to be the most favorable. All observed clusters with a linear structure were found to have a small highest-occupied–lowest-unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO–LUMO) gap. The CdTe clusters with ring structure showed larger values of the HOMO–LUMO gaps than the band gap value for the bulk crystal. Abstract In this study, the sensitivity of electrolyte-gated field-effect transistor-based glucose sensors using oxide semiconductor materials was controlled via electronegativity modulation. By controlling the enzymatic reaction between glucose and glucose oxidase, which is affected by the surface potential, the sensitivity of the glucose sensor can be effectively adjusted. To evaluate the sensitivity characteristics of the glucose sensor according to electronegativity control, devices were fabricated based on InO through Ga and Zn doping. The results confirmed that the specific sensitivity range could be adjusted by increasing the electronegativity. In addition, density functional theory calculations, confirmed that the attachment energy of the surface-functionalized material and the enzyme binding energy in the surface-functionalized thin film can be modulated depending on the electronegativity difference. The dissociation constant was controlled in both directions by doping with metal cations with larger(Ga, 1.81) or smaller(Zn, 1.65) electronegativities in InO(In, 1.78). We expect that this study will provide a simple method for the gradual and bidirectional control of the glucose sensitivity region.

Many state-of-the art machine learning (ML) interatomic potentials are based on a local or semi-local (message-passing) representation of chemical environments. They, therefore, lack a description of long-range electrostatic interactions and non-local charge transfer. In this context, there has been much interest in developing ML-based charge equilibration models, which allow the rigorous calculation of long-range electrostatic interactions and the energetic response of molecules and materials to external fields. The recently reported kQEq method achieves this by predicting local atomic electronegativities using Kernel ML. This paper describes the q-pac Python package, which implements several algorithmic and methodological advances to kQEq and provides an extendable framework for the development of ML charge equilibration models. In this work, an analytical hybrid model, which consists of an analytical electromagnetic model and a global model, is developed to investigate the E to H mode transition in a planer inductively coupled plasma. By employing the hybrid model, the effect of discharge frequency, oxygen content, and gas pressure on the E to H mode transition is investigated. The results show that the electron density increases rapidly with coil current when the discharge shifts to the H mode, and the mode transition becomes smoother and occurs at lower current when the driving frequency is higher. As oxygen content increases, the electron density declines, and the threshold current for the mode transition exhibits a rising trend. The evolution of the threshold current with pressure is nonlinear; i.e., it decreases first and then increases, and the minimum value varies with discharge frequency. In addition, the plasma composition also changes during the E to H mode transition; i.e., all the charged species densities increase with coil current, except the O − density, which varies nonlinearly, and this indicates the decreasing electronegativity in the H mode. The results obtained in this work are helpful for understanding the effect of different dischar Ar / O 2 ge parameters on the E to H mode transition in Ar / O 2 inductive discharges. [Display omitted] Development of affordable catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) represents a central task for advancing electrochemical systems such as fuel cells and metal-air batteries. This study reported the ORR and HER performance of a set of single cluster catalysts (SCCs) with atomically dispersed 3 d /4 d /5 d transition metal cluster (TM 3) embedded in a two-dimensional (2D) defective CrSe 2 substrate. Distinguishing from the conventional SCCs with positive charge active center, the unique electronegativity discrepancy between the metal clusters and the substrate renders the active center controllable charge states from negative to positive. Our investigations indicate that the TM 3 cluster helps tuning the adsorption performance of the intermediates, and therefore enhancing the electrocatalytic activity of the SCCs. Among all the candidates, we demonstrated that the less reported elements of Ir and Ag exhibit the best performance of HER and ORR with low overpotentials of −0.059 and 0.61 V, respectively. Our work provides a prototype to rationally regulate the charge states of catalysts, which could potentially contribute to the development of new kinds of catalysts and serve as a valuable theoretical reference for the experimental rationalization of SCCs. [Display omitted] Although Platinum (Pt)-based alloys have garnered significant interest within the realm of direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs), there still exists a notable dearth in the exploration of the catalytic behavior of the liquid fuels on well-defined active sites and unavoidable Pt poisoning because of the adsorbed CO species (CO ads). Here, we propose an electronegativity-induced electronic redistribution strategy to optimize the adsorption of crucial intermediates for the methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) by introducing the Co element to form the PtCo alloys. The optimal PtCo hollow nanospheres (HNSs) exhibit excellent high-quality activity of 3.27 A mg Pt −1, which is 11.6 times and 13.1 times higher than that of Pt/C and pure Pt, respectively. The in-situ Fourier transform infrared reflection spectroscopy validates that electron redistribution could weak CO adsorption, and subsequently decrease the CO poisoning adjacent the Pt active sites. Theoretical simulations result show that the introduction of Co optimize surface electronic structure and reduce the d-band center of Pt, thus optimized the adsorption behavior of CO ads. This study not only employs a straightforward method for the preparation of Pt-based alloys but also delineates a pathway toward designing advanced active sites for MOR via electronegativity-induced electronic redistribution. [Display omitted] Novel carbon xerogels doped with heteroatoms (O, N, S) were prepared by sol–gel polymerization of resorcinol with heterocyclic aldehydes containing them. All doped materials presented higher O-contents than the reference material prepared with formaldehyde, and significant S- or N-loadings in the corresponding samples. Carbon xerogels were micro-mesoporous and N-doping favoured the formation of mesopores. Their efficiency in the dynamic ethylene adsorption is presented as an interplay between porosity, surface chemistry and humidity. The surface hydrophilicity was also studied by water adsorption assays, a quick adsorption being favoured in microporous samples with hydrophilic O-groups. Breakthrough curves for ethylene adsorption were recorded in both dry and humid conditions and analysed according to the mass transference zone (MTZ). The material behaviour was correlated with the physicochemical properties, elucitating the mechanism of the simultaneous water/ethylene adsorption. The adsorption capacity depended linearly on the microporous characteristics of samples; however, MTZ parameters (efficiency of the column) varied linearly with the electronegativity of the dopant element. Both doping and humidity in the stream hindered the ethylene adsorption kinetic and capacity (up to 33% for N-doped material under humidity compared to undoped-material under dry conditions), due to reduced adsorbate-adsorbent interactions and the accessibility into narrow pores. In this study, high-entropy Mg 1.8 R 0.2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 (R Ni, Ni 1/2 Co 1/2 , Ni 1/3 Co 1/3 Zn 1/3 , Ni 1/4 Co 1/4 Zn 1/4 Cu 1/4 , Ni 1/5 Co 1/5 Zn 1/5 Cu 1/5 Mn 1/5) cordierite ceramics based on equimolar ratios were designed and synthesized through the solid-state reaction technique at high temperatures. The effect of various R-ionic substitutions at the octahedral site and their relationship with ionic polarization, chemical bonding, and configurational entropy were explored. These factors have greatly affected the microwave dielectric properties of Mg 1.8 R 0.2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 ceramics. The presence of cation radius mismatch and electronegativity mismatch at [MgO 6 ]-octahedron lattice sites revealed lattice distortion resulting from multiple cation substitutions. As the entropy values increased, the temperature stability of microwave dielectric properties of Mg 1.8 R 0.2 Al 4 Si 5 O 18 ceramics improved. For R Ni 1/2 Co 1/2 , a higher Q×f of approximately 73,658 GHz @ 13 GHz, with ɛ r ∼4.44 and τ f ∼ −23.9 ppm/°C was obtained. In the case of R Ni 1/5 Co 1/5 Zn 1/5 Cu 1/5 Mn 1/5 , a near zero τ f (−10.7 ppm/°C), ɛ r = 4.68 and Q×f = 35,478 GHz @13 GHz were achieved, making it potentially suitable for practical applications. Single‐atom catalysts (SACs) have recently become highly attractive for selective hydrogenation reactions owing to their remarkably high selectivity. However, compared to their nanoparticle counterparts, atomically dispersed metal atoms in SACs often show inferior activity and are prone to aggregate under reaction conditions. Here, by theoretical calculations, we show that tuning the local electronic structures of metal anchor sites on g‐C3N4 by doping B atoms (BCN) with relatively lower electronegativity allows achieving zero‐valence Pd SACs with reinforced metal‐support orbital hybridizations for high stability and upshifted Pd 4d orbitals for high activity in H2 activation. The precise synthesis of Pd SACs on BCN supports with varied B contents substantiated the theoretical prediction. A zero‐valence Pd1/BCN SAC was achieved on a BCN support with a relatively low B content. It exhibited much higher stability in a H2 reducing environment, and more strikingly, a hydrogenation activity, approximately 10 and 34 times greater than those high‐valence Pd1/g‐C3N4 and Pd1/BCN with a high B content, respectively. This research has discovered relationships between atom reactivity parameters (such as electronegativity or hardness) and the pressure exerted on their electronic shells. These relationships are derived from the relationship between the radius of the atom confined within a spherical box and the pressure exerted on the box by its electrons. To determine the pressure corresponding to each radius, it was essential to formulate a set of new basis functions valid for calculating the energy of confined atoms. These new basis functions, Simplified Box Orbitals (SBOs), stem from the previously studied SBOs, but their coefficients are obtained variationally instead of being fitted to a Slater‐Type Orbital (STO), and the powers (R−r)k are selected differently. These differences make them especially suitable for treating confined atoms and distinguishing between "hard" and "soft" confinements. This methodology has proven useful for accurately calculating the properties of various atoms under different pressures, namely H, He, Li, Be, B, C, N, O, F, and Ne. Furthermore, we believe that the new basis functions are suitable for obtaining Gaussian expansions that will enable the treatment of confined molecules, which we intend to study in a subsequent work. The chemical composition of the following glass system 75Li2B4O7-10CdO-(15-x)BaO- xTm2O3 (0 ≤ x ≤ 2) mol.% has been fabricated using a traditional melt quenching procedure. The density of the synthesis samples has been measured and it enhanced with the rising Tm2O3 content. All the fabricated specimens form glass and the amorphous state have been confirmed the XRD. The spectroscopic investigation indicates an increase in the energy gap from 3.08 to 3.25 eV with increasing Tm2O3 concentrations. The refractive index, basicity and static and infinity of dielectric constant were taken place of present investigated. The ultrasonic velocities of the prepared glasses are increased. Consequently, the elastic modulus of glasses has been enhanced. MCNP5, XCOM, and Phy-X/PSD code were used to characterize the efficiency of the fabricated glass against gamma radiation. Indeed, an increase in Tm2O3 content in samples correlated with an increase in MAC values. Inspired by the brilliant photochemical and photophysical properties of organic molecule containing the halide substitution that could be potentially applied across various disciplines, in this work, effects of atomic electronegativity of halogen (F, Cl, and Br) on excited state hydrogen bond effects and excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) reaction. We present the characteristic 4-chloro-2-[1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl]-phenol (CMDIP) that is the main objective of this study to explore in detail the influence of the change of atomic electronegativity by photoexcitation. By comparing the structural changes and infrared (IR) vibrational spectra of the CMDIP derivatives (CMDIP-F, CMDIP-Cl, and CMDIP-Br) fluorophores in S0 and S1 states, combined with the preliminary detection of hydrogen bond interaction by core-valence bifurcation (CVB) index, we can conclude that the hydrogen bond could be strengthened in S1 state, which is favorable for the occurrence of ESIPT reactions. The charge recombination behavior of hydrogen bond induced by photoexcitation also further illustrates this point. Via constructing potential energy curves (PESs) based on restrictive optimization and searching transition state (TS) form, we confirm the change of atomic electronegativity has a regulatory effect on the ESIPT behavior for CMDIP derivatives, that is, the higher the atomic electronegativity is more conducive to the ESIPT reaction. Phase transitions in molecular solids involve synergistic changes in chemical and electronic structures, leading to diversification in physical and chemical properties. Despite the pivotal role of hydrogen bonds (H‐bonds) in many phase‐transition materials, it is rare and challenging to chemically regulate the dynamics and to elucidate the structure‐property relationship. Here, four high‐spin CoII compounds were isolated and systematically investigated by modifying the ligand terminal groups (X=S, Se) and substituents (Y=Cl, Br). S−Cl and Se−Br undergo a reversible structural phase transition near room temperature, triggering the rotation of 15‐crown‐5 guests and the swing between syn‐ and anti‐conformation of NCX− ligands, accompanied by switchable magnetism. Conversely, S−Br and Se−Cl retain stability in ordered and disordered phases, respectively. H‐bonds geometric analysis and ab initio calculations reveal that the electronegativity of X and Y affects the strength of NY‐ap−H⋅⋅⋅X interactions. Entropy‐driven structural phase transitions occur when the H‐bond strength is appropriate; otherwise, the phase stays unchanged if it is too strong or weak. This work highlights a phase transition driven by H‐bond strength complementarity – pairing strong acceptor with weak donor and vice versa, which offers a straightforward and effective approach for designing phase‐transition molecular solids from a chemical perspective. In this study, we theoretically investigate the interactions of hydrogen bonding in excited states and the mechanism of intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) for the novel compound 3-benzothiazol-2-yl-2-hydroxy-5-methyl-benzaldehyde-oxime (HBT-phos) theoretically. Herein, the effects of atomic electronegativity of chalcogen (O, S and Se) are also focused. Firstly, employing quantum theory of atoms-in-molecules (QTAIM) method, we confirm intrinsic quality of O-H···N within HBT-phos derivatives (HBT-phos-O, HBT-phos-S and HBT-phos-Se). By astutely examining changes in geometries and infrared (IR) spectra, we elegantly demonstrate O-H···N is remarkably strengthened in S1 state, indicating a pronounced tendency towards ESIPT. Computational hydrogen bonding energies further magnificently support this conclusion. Probing into photo-induced excitation, we discover heightened electronic densities surrounding N atom that play pivotal roles in attracting protons, thereby facilitating ESIPT. Ultimately, upon comparing potential energy curves in excited states, we deduce ESIPT process is expected to be exceptionally rapid with low atomic electronegativity (O → S → Se), which elucidates why detecting fluorescence peak of HBT-phos-S itself proves challenging in experiment. This study not only fills the void in understanding ESIPT mechanism within HBT-phos derivatives and authentically reveals its unambiguous mechanism, but also presents atomic-electronegativity-dependent ESIPT behaviour and the explanation for fluorescence quenching observed in prior experiment. Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) has a typical electroencephalography (EEG) pattern of generalized 3 Hz spike and wave discharges (SWD). Focal interictal discharges were also documented in a small number of documents. The aim was to investigate the amplitudes of interictal 3 Hz SWD within the 1st second in drug-naïve CAE patients. In this way, areas with maximal electronegativity at the beginning of clinically generalized discharges will be documented. The EEG records of children with drug-naïve CAE were evaluated retrospectively by two child neurologists first for 3 Hz SWD. Then, a machine-learning model evaluated the amplitudes of 3 Hz in the 1st second of SWD. Maximum electronegativity areas were documented and classified as focal, bilateral, and generalized. One hundred and twelve 3 Hz SWD were evaluated in 11 patients. Among discharges within the 1st second, maximum electronegativity areas were documented as focal for 44 (39.2%), bilateral for 8 (7.1%), generalized for 60 (53.5%). Among focal electronegativity areas, mostly right central, left occipital and midline parietal areas were documented in 12 (10.7%), 7 (6.2%), and 6 (5.3%), respectively. Eight (7.1%) of the maximum electronegativity areas were detected bilaterally, of which 7 (6.2%) originated from the frontopolar areas. Focal maximal electronegativity areas were frequently observed in drug-naïve CAE patients, comprising approximately half of non-generalized discharges. Focal discharges might be misleading in diagnosis. Focal areas within the brain may be responsible for and contribute to absence seizures that appear bilaterally symmetrical and generalized clinically. Improving the atomic utilization of storage sites and developing isotropic transport characteristics become crucial to enhance the performance of potassium‐ion hybrid capacitors (PIHCs), and the disordered strategy and coordination modulation of the electrodes can satisfy the above structure‐activity requirements. Herein, the highly dispersed atomic W‐P clusters are chosen as a platform for the electronic restructuring. Studies and calculations indicate that replacing O in W‐O2/P2 with pyridine N can modulate the electron distribution and electronegativity, and enrich the edge‐dangling bonds of the amorphous clusters (W‐N2/P2), resulting in proper adsorption equilibrium and high affinity for K+ storage. In addition, the clusters have isotropic and bulk‐phase‐indifferent fast ion storage, and in situ protection of carbon nanosheets can provide stable support for ion storage and electron transfer in the clusters. As an anode, the composite (W‐N/P@C) exhibits superior storage properties of K+ (reversible capacity of 181.6 mAh g−1 after 3000 cycles at 5.0 A g−1), with high energy density (163.7 Wh Kg−1) at the high‐power output (3500 W Kg−1) in PIHCs. This work systematically delineates the effects of disordered design and pyridine N‐coordination on energy storage, and provides new research ideas for studying high‐performance PIHCs. In high-entropy materials, local chemical fluctuation from multiple elements inhabiting the same crystallographic site plays a crucial role in their unique properties. Using atomic-resolution chemical mapping, we identified the respective contributions of different element characteristics on the local chemical fluctuation of high-entropy structures in thermoelectric materials. Electronegativity and mass had a comparable influence on the fluctuations of constituent elements, while the radius made a slight contribution. The local chemical fluctuation was further tailored by selecting specific elements to induce large lattice distortion and strong strain fluctuation to lower lattice thermal conductivity independent of increased entropy. The chemical bond fluctuation induced by the electronegativity difference had a noticeable contribution to the composition-dependent lattice thermal conductivity in addition to the known fluctuations of mass and strain field. The robust electronegativity of the [BO3]3− structure enables the extraction of electrons from adjacent metals, offering a strategy for modulating oxygen activation in propane oxidative dehydrogenation. Metals (Ni 1.91, Al 1.5, and Ca 1.0) with varying electronegativities were employed to engineer borate catalysts. Metals in borate lacked intrinsic catalytic activity for propane conversion; instead, they modulated [BO3]3− group reactivity through adjustments in electron density. Moderate metal electronegativity favored propane oxidative dehydrogenation to propylene, whereas excessively low electronegativity led to propane overoxidation to carbon dioxide. Aluminum, with moderate electronegativity, demonstrated optimal performance. Catalyst AlBOx-1000 achieved a propane conversion of 47.5%, with the highest propylene yield of 30.89% at 550 °C, and a total olefin yield of 51.51% with a 58.92% propane conversion at 575 °C. Liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) has been recognized as a universal biological phenomenon. It plays an important role in life activities. LLPS is induced by weak interactions between intrinsically disordered regions or low complex domains. Nucleic acids are widely present in cells, and shown to be closely related to LLPS. Their structure and electronegativity provide the excellent platforms for the formation of phase‐separated condensates. In this review, we summarize the interconnected regulation between nucleic acids and LLPS demonstrated in in vivo and in vitro studies. Beside homogeneous and single‐phase condensates, complicated and multicompartment LLPS induced by nucleic acids is discussed as well. Recent advances about nucleic‐acid‐induced LLPS as a new pathogenic mechanism and drug design direction are highlighted, especially virus‐mediated disease treatment and prevention. This research accomplished the growth of cadmium zinc tungsten phosphate (CZWP) thin films on both glass and p-Si substrates, employing the sol–gel spin coating method. The sol–gel technique offers a versatile and controlled approach for fabricating nanomaterials with tailored properties. The structural and morphological analyses, conducted through XRD and FE-SEM, provided comprehensive insights into the nature of the films. The optical properties, absorbance behavior, energy gap, refractive indices, dielectric, conductivity, and electronegativity, underwent meticulous examination through UV–Vis spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction analysis of the zinc cadmium tungsten phosphate diode reveals diffraction lines indicative of a nanostructure featuring a monoclinic-phase Zn2P2O7 and Cd3P6O28. Furthermore, SEM analysis confirms a nanoporous morphology with a nanograpes-like structure in the successful crystalline structure of the cadmium zinc tungsten phosphate nanostructure. The optical absorption studies, covering a wavelength range from 190 to 1500 nm, unveiled both direct and indirect energy band gaps, measuring 4.14 and 3.77 eV, respectively. A rigorous analysis of the I-V-T characteristics for the CZNP/p-Si junction in dark mode led to the identification of key parameters, including the transport ideality factor, barrier height, and series resistance. Context: The corrosion of mild steel is a significant issue in various industries, prompting the need for effective corrosion inhibitors. This study focuses on understanding the corrosion inhibition properties of organic compounds derived from isoxazole, namely series Iso(a), Iso(b), Iso(c), Iso(d), Iso(e), Iso(f), Iso(g), and Iso(h), which could have implications for materials science and industrial applications. By investigating the influence of different substitutions on these compounds, valuable insights can be gained into designing better corrosion inhibitors for practical use. Methods: Theoretical studies were conducted using density functional theory (DFT) with the B3LYP functional and the 6-31G (d,p) basis set. These calculations enabled the evaluation of various parameters including frontier orbital energies (EHOMO, ELUMO), energy gap (∆E), electronegativity (χ), absolute hardness (η), softness (σ), fraction of transferred electrons (∆N), as well as local properties such as natural atomic populations and Fukui indices. Additionally, molecular dynamics simulations were performed to study the adsorption behavior of the inhibitors on the surface of Fe (110). The simulations were conducted using Materials Studio version 8.0 software package using COMPASS force field to understand the impact of different functional groups on the inhibitors before and after adsorption on the iron surface. NiFe-based electrocatalysts will experience dynamical surface reconstruction during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) process, and the derived metal (oxy)hydroxide hybrids on the surface have been considered as the actual active species for OER. Tremendous efforts have been dedicated to understanding the surface reconstruction, but there is rare research on recognizing the origin of improved performance derived from anion species of substrate. Herein, the OER electrocatalytic characteristics were tuned with different anions in NiFe-based catalyst, using NiFe-based oxides/nitride/sulfide/selenides/phosphides (NiFeX, X = O, N, S, Se, and P) as the model materials. The combination of X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy, electrochemical tests, operando spectroscopic characterizations, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations, reveals that anion with lower electronegativity in NiFe-based catalyst leads to higher conductivity and delayed valence transition of Ni sites, as well as optimized adsorption behavior towards oxygen intermediates, contributing to enhanced OER performance. Accordingly, NiFeP electrocatalyst demonstrates an ultralow overpotential of 265 mV at 20 mA·cm−2 for OER, as well as long-term stability. This work not only offers further insights into the effect of anionic electronegativity on the intrinsic OER electrocatalytic properties of NiFe-based electrocatalyst but also provides guide to design efficient non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts for water oxidation. The paper analyzes the relationships among acid-base interactions in various oxide systems and their thermodynamics. Extensive data on enthalpies of solution of binary oxides in oxide melts of several compositions, obtained by high-temperature oxide melt solution calorimetry at 700 and 800 °C, are systematized and analyzed. Oxides with low electronegativity, namely the alkali and alkaline earth oxides, which are strong oxide ion donors, show enthalpies of solution that have negative values greater than -100 kJ per mole of oxide ion. Their enthalpies of solution become more negative with decreasing electronegativity in the order Li, Na, K and Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba in both of the commonly used molten oxide calorimetric solvents: sodium molybdate and lead borate. Oxides with high electronegativity, including P2O5, SiO2, GeO2, and other acidic oxides, dissolve more exothermically in the less acidic solvent (lead borate). The remaining oxides, with intermediate electronegativity (amphoteric oxides) have enthalpies of solution of between +50 and -100 kJ/mol, with many close to zero. More limited data for the enthalpies of solution of oxides in multicomponent aluminosilicate melts at higher temperature are also discussed. Overall, the ionic model combined with the Lux-Flood description of acid-base reactions provide a consistent and useful interpretation of the data and their application for understanding the thermodynamic stability of ternary oxide systems in solid and liquid states.

Short strong hydrogen bonds (SSHBs) play a crucial role in many chemical processes. Recently, as the representative of SSHBs, [F–H–F]− was experimentally observed. [F–H–F]− has a symmetric structure, which can be described as a H+ acid shared by two terminal F− donors (F−–H+–F−). To explore whether two identical donors are bound to result in SSHBs, we performed theoretical studies on a series of compounds (L–H+–L) with two identical electron donors (L corresponds to donors containing group 14, 15, 16, and 17 elements). The results show that identical donors do not definitely lead to SSHBs. Instead, typical hydrogen bonds also exist. Both electronegativity and basicity contribute to the patterns of hydrogen bonds, where more electronegative and weaker donors benefit to SSHBs. In addition, it was found that zero-point energies also respond to the hydrogen bonding systems. This systemic work is expected to provide more insights into SSHBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Investigating the catalytic behavior of the liquid fuels on well‐defined dual sites is crucial in understanding electrocatalytic reactions. Herein, concept holding bidirectional electronegativity dominant d‐band center regulation on Pt‐Rh dual sites is proposed to tailor the catalytic behaviors toward methanol oxidation reaction (MOR). The Pt‐Rh dual sites are engineered by introducing the low‐electronegativity Ga/Ni and high‐electronegativity W elements in PtRhGaNiW high‐entropy alloy (HEA), which can drive the electron cloud of Pt‐Rh dual sites redispersing over a wide orbit window. The optimized Pt‐Rh dual sites in PtRhGaNiW HEA nanowire achieve a high current density of 5.61 mA cm−2 toward MOR, which is 3.38 and 9.75 times than that of PtRh alloy (1.66 mA cm−2) and Pt/C (0.57 mA cm−2), as well as remarkably stability and COads poisonous resistance. The theoretical calculations further disclose that the redistribution of surface localized electron around Pt‐Rh dual sites can promote direct oxidation of ─OH, and accelerate the COads oxidation/removal. Asymmetrically coordinated single‐atom catalysts are attractive for the implementation of high‐performance lithium–sulfur (Li─S) batteries. However, the design principle of the asymmetric coordination that can efficiently promote bidirectional conversion of polysulfides has not been fully realized. Herein, a series of Co─N3X1 (X refers to F, O, Cl, S, or P) configurations are established, and theoretically unravel that the relative electronegativity value (REV) can be used as an index parameter for characterizing the catalytic activity. By virtue of enhanced chemical affinity with sulfur species and lowered Li2S decomposition, chlorine‐atom‐constructed asymmetric configurations with an optimal REV exhibit stronger catalytic effect to inhibit shuttling. Such a REV‐related catalytic effect is termed as REV effect. Following this principle, a novel single‐atom catalyst with dominated Co─N3Cl1 configuration is successfully synthesized through an inside‐out thermal reaction strategy and used as a modified layer on the cathode‐side separator. Interestingly, the assembled Li─S batteries exhibit quite high rate capacity (804.3 mAh g−1 at 5.0 C), durable cyclability (0.023% capacity decay per cycle), and competitive areal capacity (7.0 mAh cm−2 under 7.5 mg cm−2 sulfur loading and lean electrolyte). In contrast to its behavior in solution, the adduct [(LiBr)(tBu)(Ph)Bpin]− (pin=pinacol) transfers its phenyl anion from boron to lithium upon fragmentation in the gas phase. Quantum chemical calculations predict this exceptional transmetalation to be exothermic relative to the separated reactants, [(tBu)(Ph)Bpin]− and LiBr, which we attribute to the high phenyl‐anion affinity of the coordinatively unsaturated LiBr unit. The addition of a single molecule of tetrahydrofuran drastically reduces the phenyl‐anion affinity of LiBr and thereby renders the transmetalation from boron to lithium endothermic. Thus, the probed system highlights the importance of solvation and ligation effects in transmetalations. The performance of platinum electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution was enhanced by selecting an appropriate metal support. [Display omitted] Modulating the electronic structure of platinum (Pt) through a support is an important strategy for enhancing its electrocatalytic properties. In this work, to explore the impact of support electronegativity on Pt's catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution, we chose diverse metals with varying electronegativities that are stable in acidic solutions, such as titanium (Ti), molybdenum (Mo), and tungsten (W), as supports. Ti is the optimal support according to density functional theory (DFT) calculations. As expected, the Pt@Ti catalyst demonstrated remarkable efficiency in the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), displaying a minimal overpotential of 13 mV at −10 mA cm−2, a Tafel slope of 34.5 mV dec−1, and sustained durability over 110 h in a 0.5 M H 2 SO 4 solution. To unravel the metal-support interaction (MSI) between Pt and Ti, a comprehensive exploration encompassing both experimental investigations and DFT calculations was undertaken. The results elucidate that the outstanding HER performance of Pt@Ti stems from robust synergies forged between Pt and Ti atoms within the Ti support. This work not only furnishes a technique for producing electrocatalysts with superior efficiency and stability but also streamlines the process of choosing the most appropriate metal support. A key strategy for designing environmental barrier coatings is to incorporate multiple rare-earth (RE) components into β- and γ-RE2Si2O7 to achieve multifunctional performance optimization. However, the polymorphic phase presents significant challenges for the design of multicomponent RE disilicates. Here, employing decision fusion, a machine learning (ML) method is crafted to identify multicomponent RE disilicates, showcasing notable accuracy in prediction. The well-trained ML models evaluated the phase formation capability of 117 (RE10.25RE20.25Yb0.25Lu0.25)2Si2O7 and (RE11/6RE21/6RE31/6Gd1/6Yb1/6Lu1/6)2Si2O7, which are unreported in experiments and validated by first-principles calculations. Utilizing model visualization, essential factors governing the formation of (RE10.25RE20.25Yb0.25Lu0.25)2Si2O7 are pinpointed, including the average radius of RE3+ and variations in different RE3+ combinations. On the other hand, (RE11/6RE21/6RE31/6Gd1/6Yb1/6Lu1/6)2Si2O7 must take into account the average mass and the electronegativity deviation of RE3+. This work combines material-oriented ML methods with formation mechanisms of multicomponent RE disilicates, enabling the efficient design of superior materials with exceptional properties for the application of environmental barrier coatings. Context: To unravel the effects of the C vacancy, doping N type and number, the adsorption of HCHO and O2 was investigated on the graphene (Gr)-based supported Pt single atom by density functional theory calculations. The electronegativity of the vacancy and N-doped Gr was a crucial factor both for the anchoring for a Pt and the further adsorption of HCHO and O2 on the supported Pt. The electronegativity can be tuned by the C vacancy number (1V and 2V), the doping N type (graphitic-N, pyridinic-N and pyrrolic-N) and the doping pyridinic-N number (1N ~ 4N). The high electronegativity of the vacancy and N-doped Gr favored the anchoring for a Pt compared to the Gr, while too high electronegativity was detrimental for further adsorption of adsorbates on the supported Pt. The Bader charge analysis proved that the electronegativity followed the trend as pyrrolic-N > pyridinic-N > graphitic-N, and 4N-Gr > 2V-Gr > 3N-Gr > 2N-Gr > 1N-Gr > 1V-Gr > Gr. As a result, the pyridinic-N, the 1V-Gr, 1N-Gr and 2N-Gr with the suitable electronegativity achieved both stronger anchoring for a Pt and more favorable adsorption of HCHO and O2 on the supported Pt than the pristine Gr support. The response of the trimethylammonium–iodinechloride and diiodide (TMA–ICl/I2) crystal structures have been examined under high pressure using neutron powder diffraction. TMA–ICl exhibits impressive pressure-driven electronic flexibility, where the N⋯I–Cl interactions progressively encompass all the distances represented in analogous structures recorded in the Cambridge Structural Database. Comparison with the TMA–I2 complex reveals that this flexibility is owed to the electronegativity of the chlorine atom which induces increased distortion of the iodine electron cloud. Exchanging oxygen in the functional group C=O (i. e. carbonyl) for the less electronegative Group 16 elements, sulfur or selenium, unexpectedly enhances the electronegativity of the C=X group in π‐conjugated molecules and reduces the molecular π HOMO–LUMO energy gap. Quantum‐chemical analyses revealed that the steric size of the chalcogen atom X is at the origin of this seemingly counterintuitive behavior. This tuning of the chemical properties of carbonyl compounds by varying the chalcogen atom size in the C=X bond can be applied in many fields of chemistry.
