Ovaj rad bavit će se prikazom završetka bitke za Vukovar u hrvatskim i srpskim novinama od 1. studenoga 1991. do 30. studenoga 1991. Analizirat će se dva hrvatska dnevna lista (Vjesnik i Večernji list) i dva srpska dnevna lista (Politika i Večernje novosti). Kvalitativnom i kvantitativnom analizom usporedit će se sve spomenute novine kako bismo provjerili podudaraju li se ili razlikuju one međusobno i, ako jesu, na koji način. Cilj rada također je odgovoriti na pitanje koriste li se zadane novine propagandom te koje su od njih najvjerodostojnije. Istražit će se jesu li članci u novinama dovoljni kao izvori za pisanje znanstvenog rada o bitki za Vukovar. Analizirani su članci u kojima se spominje Vukovar, vrste naslova, prisutnost popratnih fotografija i njihova uloga te učestalost upotrebe pogrdnih naziva za neprijateljsku vojsku, tj. korištenje različite terminologije. Iz rezultata je vidljivo da se i hrvatski i srpski mediji mogu optužiti za upotrebu propagande te da se, prema tome, pojavljuje pristranost i neobjektivnost. Unatoč tome, hrvatske novine su te koje su sličnije literaturi koja se danas koristi. Također, rad prikazuje povijesne prilike u Hrvatskoj na početku 90-ih godina prošlog stoljeća s naglaskom na tada prisutnu političku situaciju. Nadalje, s posebnim naglaskom će se promotriti pravila ratnog novinarstva i općenito medija u ratu kako bismo kroz prizmu novinarske etike mogli interpretirati ove novinske izvore. Odabrane su dvije teme na kojima je posebno uspoređeno viđenje hrvatskih i srpskih novina: navodni pokolj srpske djece u Borovu Naselju i evakuacija civila iz vukovarske bolnice. This paper provides an overview of the End of the Battle of Vukovar in Croatian and Serbian newspapers from November 1 to November 30, 1991. Two Croatian daily newspapers are analyzed (The Vjesnik and The Večernji list) and two Serbian ones (The Politika and The Večernje novosti) as well. Qualitative and quantitative analysis are used to compare all forementioned newspapers in order to check whether they match or differ from each other and if so, in what way. Also, this paper intends to answer the question of whether the aforementioned newspapers dailies were in service of state propaganda. The paper deals with one more question: which of the newspapers dailies has proven the most credible. The study will provide us with an answer whether these newspaper articles are sufficient as a source for writing a scientific paper on the Battle of Vukovar. What is analyzed are the articles, types of titles, the presence of accompanying photographs and their role as well as the frequency of the use of different derogatory terminology applying to the enemy army. The results have shown that both the Croatian and Serbian media can be accused of using propaganda and therefore, there is presence of bias and lack of objectivity in them. Nevertheless, Croatian newspapers are the ones which are more similar to historical accounts used today. Also, this paper displays the historical situation in Croatia in the early 90s with an emphasis on the political situation of those days. Furthermore, the observation of the rules of war journalism is accentuated so that we can interpret a given newspaper through the prism of journalistic ethics. Two topics have been chosen to review the vision of Croatian and Serbian newspapers: the massacre of Serbian children in Borovo Naselje and the evacuation of civilians from the Vukovar hospital.

Narodne novine osnovao je Ljudevit Gaj 6. siječnja 1835. Bile su to prve hrvatske novine koje su izlazile isključivo na hrvatskom jeziku. Zvale su se Novine Horvatske. Razlog pokretanja novina bile su preporodne ideje i želja da se ujedine hrvatski krajevi te osnaži samostalnost Hrvatske i uvede hrvatski jezik kao službeni. Mladi naraštaj obrazovanih ljudi bio je svjestan da će te ideje najbolje ostvariti pokretanjem hrvatskih novina i reformom neujednačenoga pravopisa. Godine 1850. Gaj u dogovoru s tadašnjom vlašću proglašava Novine službenim listom vlade, 1868. prodaje ih Zemaljskoj vladi. Od tada pa sve do danas Narodne novine su ostale službenim listom svih dosadašnjih vlada, iako su više puta mijenjale ime. U ovom radu se istražuje zastupljenost Narodnih novina u našim knjižnicama, njihov način pohrane, mediji u kojima se pohranjuju te razina i kvaliteta dostupnosti istih u knjižnicama. Spominje se važnost novina za knjižnice, od kojeg je značaja njihovo trajno pohranjivanje, te kakvu ulogu imaju Narodne novine kao službeni list u knjižnicama ali i općenito u svim segmentima našega društva. Narodne novine was founded by Ljudevit Gaj on January 6, 1835. It was the first Croatian newspaper to be published exclusively in Croatian. It was called Novine Horvatske. The reason for launching the newspaper was the revival ideas and the desire to unite the Croatian regions and strengthen the independence of Croatia and introduce the Croatian language as the official language. The young generation of educated people was aware that these ideas would be best realized by launching Croatian newspapers and reforming the uneven spelling. In 1850, in agreement with the then government, Gaj declared Novine the official list of the government, and in 1868 he sold them to the Provincial Government. From then until today, the Narodne novine has remained the official list of all previous governments, although it has changed its name several times. This paper investigates the representation of the Narodne novine in our libraries, their method of storage, the media in which they are stored and the level and quality of their availability in libraries. The importance of newspapers for libraries is mentioned, the importance of their permanent storage, and the role of the Narodne novine as an official gazette in libraries, but also in general in all segments of our society.

This article deals with the events in Czechoslovakia in 1968 from the Yugoslav, or more precisely, Croatian perspective. After two decades of more or less cold relations between Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, in 1968 the relations were on an acceptable level, and even more so in August of 1968. In Yugoslavia, liberalisation processes in Czechoslovakia were viewed with open approval, while in Czechoslovakia Yugoslavia was regarded as an example of autonomous socialist model. However, these relations were disrupted by the military intervention of Warsaw Pact forces in Czechoslovakia. First part of this article brings the reactions of Croatian daily newspapers (Vjesnik, Večernji list) to the events in Czechoslovakia in 1968. Second part brings the analysis of weeklies from Northwestern Croatia, more precisely, from towns of Koprivnica and Varaždin, in which many Czechoslovak tourists got "stuck" on their way back home. Lastly, the third part of the article brings two authentic testimonies of those who in the aforementioned cities helped Czechoslovak citizens.

U ovome radu analiziraju se novinski članci i fotografije iz sedam hrvatskih novina, točnije portala na temelju govora mržnje i diskriminacije. Nakon iznošenja cilja analize medijskog sadržaja i metodologije rad se bavi definiranjem ključnih pojmova te se navode razlike između slobode izražavanja i govora mržnje, stereotipa, predrasuda i diskriminacije. Nadalje, kako se analizira medijski sadržaj, koji ako imaju segmente govore mržnje ili diskriminacije, krši osnovna ljudska prava kao i Kodeks časti hrvatskih novinara. Važno je navesti koja su to ljudska prava i koja načela se krše promicanjem govora mržnje ili diskriminacije. Također se analizira u kolikoj mjeri mediji izvještavaju o situacijama u kojima se krši navedeno. Neizostavno je u radu za spomenuti koliku uloga mediji danas imaju u oblikovanju javnog mnijenja te naglasiti kako svaka napisana riječ može imati posljedice, pozitivne ili negativne. In this final thesis newspaper articles and photographs from seven Croatian national newspaper agencies are analyzed, more specifically from articles on the basis of hate speech and discrimination. After carrying out the goal of analysis of media content and methodology, the thesis continues on with defining the key terms and differences between free speech and hate speech, stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination. Further on, as the media content is analyzed, which if it has segments of hate speech or discrimination, violates fundamental human rights as well as the Croatian journalist Codex of honor. It is of utmost importance to cite which rights are being infringed upon by promoting hate speech or discrimination. In addition, it is analyzed in what amount news articles report concerning situations in which the formerly stated is violated. In today's day and age, it is infallible to point out how large an influence media has in shaping public relations and how every word can have consequences, positive or negative.

The most sensitive group of refugees are children, and this paper seeks to determine how the two Croatian national daily newspapers, Jutarnji list and Večernji list reported on refugee children in the first month of their arrival on Croatian territory (from 17 September to 17 October 2015). The method used in the paper is content analysis (qualitative and quantitative) and taken into account were all texts that mentioned refugee children, all photographs that portrayed refugee children and all front pages depicting them. There were 94 texts and 180 photographs of refugee children, distributed almost evenly between Jutarnji list and Večernji list. The research results determined that there were differences in the portrayal of the refugee children in texts as opposed to photographs. They were the dominant subjects in 80 percent of the photographs but in only 12 percent of the texts ; their identity was protected in texts, but not on photographs, and the majority of published texts portrayed children in general while the majority of photographs portrayed only one child. Even though none of the analysed newspapers negatively wrote about refugee children, the number of published photographs with children raises the question of whether they were used as an instrument of attracting attention. In that sense, disputable is the publication of photographs without context as well as the fact that only one analytical text on refugee children appeared in the analysed period, indicating a lack of journalistic initiative to address these important issues.

Ovaj je rad posvećen izbjegličkoj krizi, tj. dolasku izbjeglica s ponajprije ratom obuhvaćenih područja Bliskoga Istoka (Sirija i Irak), koja je u rujnu 2015. godine stigla i unutar hrvatskih granica, čime je po prvi put na naslovnice hrvatskih tiskanih medija stigla tema imigracije odnosno imigranata. U ovome su radu kvantitativno analizirani svi članci vodećih hrvatskih tiskanih medija (24 sata, Jutarnji list i Večernji list) u razdoblju od 1. rujna 2015. godine do 15. listopada iste godine. U ovome su radu također upotrebom metode kritičko-diskurzivne analize prikazane četiri metode, odnosno karakteristike koje su hrvatski dnevni listovi zajednički iskorištavali prilikom izvještavanja o izbjegličkoj krizi. Prva je karakteristika ona koja se tiče imenovanja subjekata izvještavanja, odnosno samih izbjeglica. Druga je karakteristika ona koja se tiče upotrebljavanja vizualnih priloga, a osobito fotografija snaga reda i mira te maloljetnih izbjeglica. Treća je promatrana metoda korištenje metafori koje su hrvaski tiskani mediji upotrebljavali pri izvještavanju, dok je posljednja u radu tumačena karakteristika ona koja govori o pokušaju kontekstualizacije teme izbjegličke krize unutar hrvatskih medija kroz kontekst „širih“ europskih okvira., This thesis is dedicated to the representation of refugees and the refugee crisis in the Croatian newspapers. The focus of the thesis is on the arrival of refugees from the war torn countries in the Middle East (primarily from Syria and Iraq), which in September of 2015 arrived for the first time inside Croatian borders, which was also the first time that headlines in Croatian media were focused on the topics of immigration and immigrants. This thesis presents a quantitative analysis of all the articles about the refugee crisis from the leading Croatian newspapers (24 sata, Jutarnji List and Večernji list) in the period from the start of September 2015 till 15 October of the same year. It also shows, using the method of critical discourse analysis, the four characteristics that Croatian daily newspapers used while reporting the refugee crisis and representing the refugees. The first characteristic is the one related to the naming of the refugees in the newspaper articles. Another characteristic is the one related to the use of visual images in the said articles, especially photos of policemen and juvenile refugees. The third characteristic is in the wording and metaphors that the Croatian newspapers used in reporting, while the last characteristic is one that of an attempt, by the Croatian newspapers, of contextualisation of refugee crisis in the broad context of "wider" European framework.
