Marine pipeline vibration condition monitoring is a critical and challenging issue, on account of the complex marine environment, while powering the required monitoring sensors remains problematic. This study introduces a vibration sensor based on a ball triboelectric nanogenerator (B-TENG) for marine pipelines condition monitoring. The B-TENG consists of an acrylic cube, polyester rope, aluminum electrodes, and PTFE ball, which converts vibration signals into electrical signals without the need for an external energy supply. The experimental results show that B-TENG can accurately monitor the frequency, amplitude, and direction of vibration in the range of 1–5 Hz with a small error of 0.67%, 4.4%, and 5%, and an accuracy of 0.1 Hz, 0.97 V/mm, and 1.5°, respectively. The hermetically sealed B-TENG can monitor vibration in underwater environments. Therefore, the B-TENG can be used as a cost-effective, self-powered, highly accurate vibration sensor for marine pipeline monitoring. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

[Display omitted] This study presents a novel Aluminium foil-based electrode characterized by its affordability, flexibility, and ease of modification with carboxylic moiety-containing organic molecules. Upon foil modification with Aluminium nanoparticles and EDTA (AlNP-EDTA/AlE), the modified electrode exhibits remarkable activity in the oxidation of lead at potentials around −0.4 V. The lead signal is derived from the oxidation of lead deposited on the electrode surface using anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV). The addition of EDTA to AlNP/AlE increased the anodic peak current of lead by more than 500 %. The surface characterization of the electrode was performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and infrared spectroscopy (IR), while its electroactive properties were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Optimal operating parameters include pH 2.1, square-wave voltammetry (SWV) with an accumulation time of 60 s and an accumulation potential of −0.8 V. A low detection limit of 0.20 µmol/L and a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 3.0 % were achieved using five different electrodes. This study aims to improve COD, NH3‐N, and turbidity removal from Bingöl's leachate using a single‐reactor integrated electrocoagulation (EC)–coal‐based powdered activated carbon (CBPAC) process under various experimental conditions. In the EC‐CBPAC process, three stainless‐steel cathodes and three aluminum electrodes were connected to the negative and positive terminals of the power supply, respectively. The initial concentrations in the leachate were 1044 mg O2/L for COD, 204 mg/L for NH3‐N, and 57 NTU (or 71.25‐mg (NH2)2H2SO4/L) for turbidity, respectively. After a 40‐min EC‐CBPAC process, with a CBPAC dosage of 5 g/L and pH of 5 for COD and turbidity, and 9.5 for NH3‐N, the optimum removal efficiencies for COD, NH3‐N, and turbidity were achieved at 92%, 40%, and 91%, respectively. When the EC process was applied without CBPAC under the same experimental conditions, the removal efficiencies of COD, NH3‐N, and turbidity were 87%, 28%, and 54%, respectively. Before and after the EC‐CBPAC process, the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area, pore volume, and mean pore diameter of the CBPAC were found to be (888 m2/g, 0.498 cm3/g, and 22.28 Å) and (173 m2/g, 0.18 cm3/g, and 42.8 Å), respectively. The optimum pseudo‐first‐order (PFO) rate constants for COD, turbidity, and NH3‐N were determined to be 3.15 × 10−2, 4.77 × 10−2, and 8.8 × 10−3 min−1, respectively. With the current density increasing from 15 to 25 mA/cm2, energy consumption, unit energy consumption, and total cost increased from 68.7 to 122.4 kWh/m3, 6.948 to 15.226 kWh/kg COD, and 0.85 to 1.838 $/kg COD, respectively. The exploration of Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) with coated electrodes represents a relatively novel research avenue, thereby yielding limited published research outcomes. The choice of coating material plays a pivotal role in the EDM machining process, and alterations in coating materials can directly influence the adjustment of technological parameters in EDM. Consequently, research dedicated to optimizing these technological parameters for EDM employing coated electrodes is of paramount importance, and it promises to advance the practical implementation of this cutting-edge technique. In this study, we systematically investigate the technological parameters for EDM employing a copper-coated aluminum electrode in the context of Ti-6Al-4V machining. Our research outcomes are framed within a multi-objective optimization paradigm, with a focus on Material Removal Rate (MRR) and Surface Roughness (SR) as vital quality indicators. To address the intricate multi-objective optimization challenge, we have harnessed the combined power of the Taguchi methodology and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The amalgamation of these techniques enables us to navigate the complexities of EDM parameter optimization effectively. Our findings reveal that the most favorable process parameters entail a configuration of U=40V, I=40 A, Ton=1000μs, resulting in an MRR of 0.028mg/min and an SR of 7.56μm. These optimized parameters exemplify a substantial enhancement in machining efficiency and surface quality when utilizing coated electrodes. Moreover, our study scrutinizes the quality of the machined surface under optimal conditions with coated electrodes. A batch electrocoagulation (EC) process using aluminum electrodes was optimized for the removal of natural organic matter (NOM) and subsequent reduction in total trihalomethane (TTHM) formation potential from synthetic (SynW) and river water (RW) samples. Optimum operating conditions were found to be 45 min of electrolysis time, an initial NOM concentration of 10 mg/L , and an applied voltage of 15 V. Initial NOM concentrations tested were 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mg/L and treatment efficiency increased with increasing initial concentration. The kinetic study demonstrated that NOM removal followed second-order kinetics. NOM removal resulted in the reduction of trihalomethanes (THMs) formation in treated water. THM concentrations were measured in untreated and EC-treated water. Bromodichloromethane had the highest removal (92.4%) compared to trichloromethane (89.5%) after 10 min. The TTHM concentration after a 10–30 min treatment was below the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) maximum contaminant level of 80 μg/L. After 60 min, the TTHM concentration in the RW samples was reduced by 77.5%, which was considerably less than the reduction in the SynW samples (89.7%) within 10 min. The lower THMFP removal from RW may be due to interference from natural or anthropogenic constituents. The total amount of sludge generated in experiments was compared with the estimate derived using Faraday's equation. A current efficiency of 1.4 was obtained, indicating super-faradaic behavior of the EC process at the optimum operating conditions. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to characterize the generated sludge and entrapment of NOM in aluminum hydroxide [ Al(OH)3 ] flocs as the most likely removal mechanism. Imidacloprid is still a widely used neonicotinoid insecticide that is banned in many countries because of the associated environmental risks. Due to the inefficiency of conventional wastewater treatments for pesticide removal, new treatment methods are being investigated. Electrochemical methods, including electrocoagulation (EC), seem to be promising alternatives considering their effectiveness in removing various pollutants from wastewater. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of electrode material, current density, ultrasound, and operation time on the efficiency of imidacloprid removal from a model solution by EC. The combination of aluminum electrodes and 20 A of applied current for 20 min resulted in total imidacloprid degradation. A simplified energy balance was introduced as a form of process evaluation. The long-term feasibility and efficiency of microbial electrolysis cells (MECs) depend primarily upon several crucial parameters. However, they show promise for sustainably producing biohydrogen (bioH 2). This study investigates a newly designed biohydrogen reactor by studying the effects of several variables on the production of bioH 2 , including applied voltage, electrode material, and gas sparging with CO 2 and N 2. The study aims to optimize the system for improved efficiency and production performance. The results of this study show that both electrode type and applied voltage affect bioH 2 production where choosing the right inoculum has a significant impact on the catalytic efficiency. The aluminum electrodes significantly help produce the most bioH 2 production at 2.0 V with 884 mL/L in 11.25 min, while emphasizing the significance of material characteristics. The reduced partial pressure from CO 2 sparging, up to a point, improves bioH 2 generation. The N 2 gas sparging further demonstrates an increased efficiency where the ideal flow rates are dependent on the size of the MEC system. The highest bioH 2 production rates for CO 2 and N 2 sparging are measured as 821 mL/L and 813 mL/L in 4.25 min and 11.50 min at a volume of 400 mL/min and 300 mL/min, respectively. The results of this study further advance our knowledge of and ability to optimize MEC systems for long-term, sustainable bioH 2 production. A lack of fresh water is one of the most significant problems currently affecting humanity. Water scarcity also affects industries, with the mining industry being one of the most affected. One possible solution to water scarcity is the recirculation of water. Water in mining is usually treated with physicochemical methods, but in metallurgical processes, reagents are added, accumulate until reaching the point of saturation, and are often not successfully removed. In this sense, electrocoagulation has shown great efficiency in the treatment of organic contaminants, heavy metals, and metallic ions, and was applied in this study to eliminate ions and undesirable organic compounds present in mining–metallurgical process water. Furthermore, this process has shown great efficacy in relation to toxic metals like arsenic because their presence reduces the efficiency of other processes such as flotation. In this study, two types of electrodes were used: stainless steel and aluminum. The best results were achieved with stainless steel electrodes, which were able to eliminate 90% of copper ions in water. The turbidity of the water during the process was measured to determine the amount of solid present in the water, and a reduction of around 95% was observed when using aluminum electrodes. The sedimentation of clots occurred in two stages: Firstly, the coagulant was formed to trap organic matter as its size increased, until a particle size that was sufficient for settling was achieved. A zero-order kinetic model was fit for this stage of the process. Secondly, the formed clots continued to settle, and a second-order kinetic model was fit for this stage. Flotation tests were carried out on the process and electrotreated water to evaluate the recovery of Zn, Pb, Ag, and Au. An increase of 1.5% was found for gold, and an increase of 2% was found for silver, while a significant improvement was identified for zinc, augmenting recuperation by 30% when electrotreated water was used. For lead, no considerable change in recovery was observed in either form of water. The formed clots were analyzed using Scanning Electronic Microscopy, and we found that metal ions were trapped in the clots. The use of conductive polymers in aluminium electrolytic capacitors prevents leakage and enlarges the temperature use range when compared with their liquid counterparts. PEDOT:PSS is an outstanding candidate due to its tunable properties, i.e., electronic conductivity (10−5 to 103 S/cm), and its high thermal stability. As a result of their synthesis, PEDOT:PSS dispersions are characterized by a low pH value, which can influence pH sensitive materials such as aluminium. However, no work to date has studied the interaction between PEDOT:PSS dispersions and aluminium oxide substrates. In this work, the interface and interaction between PEDOT:PSS and an aluminium electrode were studied for the first time via odd random phase electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and analysed post mortem by SEM and AFM characterization. PEDOT:PSS dispersions at different pH values (1.9, 4.9, 5.8) were applied in a layered manner onto a non-etched aluminium substrate with a grown oxide layer on top, which provided a model system for the analysis of the interface. The analysis showed that the acidic PEDOT:PSS dispersions attacked the aluminium substrate, forming pores on the surface, but had a positive impact on the capacitance of the aluminium oxide/PEDOT:PSS systems. On the other hand, neutral dispersions did not affect the aluminium electrode, but showed poor layer formation properties, and the electrochemical analysis displayed a dispersion of results ranging from capacitive to resistive behaviour. This study investigates the effect of voltage on the removal of polypropylene microplastics (PPMPs) from artificial wastewater via an electrocoagulation (EC) process using iron (Fe) electrodes. The effect of the voltage was investigated by conducting multiple continuous flow experiments at three different voltage values (10, 20, and 30 V). The findings demonstrated that the turbidity value increased gradually as the initial voltage increased, from 6.67 NTU at 10 V to 74.37 NTU at 30 V. In this EC process, in which Fe electrodes are utilized to remove the PPMPs, it is believed that 20 V provides optimal support. Kinetic studies showed that the process followed a first-order kinetic model with a kinetics rate constant (k) of 0.0143 min-1 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.9702. Bamboo is one of the green building materials that have been used for centuries. Combining with metal materials will endow bamboo with new functions, such as weather resistance, anti-corrosion, conductivity, and electromagnetic shielding. However, there is a natural barrier between bamboo and metal materials. This paper proposes fabrication of novel bamboo-based metal composites (BMC) which are composed of bamboo substrate and metal coating, without any adhesive, using an efficient and sustainable arc thermal spraying technique. In this method, the metal wire is melted and deposited on the bamboo substrate through a high-temperature heat source. In the feasibility experiment, arc spraying using aluminum as the wire electrode was selected. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were used to observe and test the fabricated specimens. It was demonstrated that when the spraying voltage was 40 V, the deposition rate was as high as 5.8 g/min with the average thickness of the metal coating exceeding 400 μm. The surface of the BMC aluminum coating was flat, continuous, and compact with an average roughness of about Ra 3.0 μm. Based on experimental results, the integrity of bamboo substrate in thermal spraying was discussed. Results from SEM–EDS test showed that there are crack areas and adhesion areas between bamboo and metal coatings, and the highest bonding strength exhibited over 1.0 MPa. This work provides a new practice of fabricating novel BMC through a green manufacturing method with high efficiency. The present study elaborates the electrocoagulation process for the removal of nitrates from synthetic and real groundwater. Electrocoagulation treatment has a positive effect on the quality of groundwater in general and the removal of nitrate in particular, which is one of the most potent pollutants found in groundwater. Moreover, it is supposed that nitrate removal mechanisms are likely to be dependent on operational parameters like applied current, electrode material, initial concentration of nitrates, and pH of the solution, etc. Therefore, in the present study various process parameters have been optimised in terms of nitrate removal efficiency. Experiments were performed using batch process at different initial concentration of nitrates (100–500 mg/L), pH (6.0–12), stirring speed (100–500 rpm), inter-electrode distance (0.5–2 cm) and electrolysis time (30–180 min). Further, the effect of co-existing ions using KNO3, Ca(NO3)2 and Mg(NO3)2 in the presence of NaCl and Na2SO4 was investigated. Maximum 98%, Nitrate removal efficiency was obtained at inter-electrode distance 1 cm, agitation speed 300 rpm, electrolyte concentration of 1.1688 (g/L) NaCl, current 1.5 A and time 180 min for initial nitrate concentration of 100 (mg/L). Isotherm and kinetics models have been studied and it was observed from the present investigation that the process follows pseudo-second-order kinetics. The Freundlich isotherm model simulations match satisfactorily with the experimental observations. This study investigates landfill leachate treatment using aluminum (Al-Al) and iron (Fe-Fe) electrodes in electrocoagulation (EC). Aluminum experiments revealed COD removal percentages of 22% (pH 7.4) and 20% (pH 6.0), while iron demonstrated higher efficiency at 32% (pH 7.4) and 30% (pH 6.0). Both processes excelled at neutral pH, with Fe-Fe EC displaying superior removal efficiency. To address electrode passivation, external aeration improved COD removal (31% to 61%) under specific conditions (3 V, pH 7.4, 60 min). The EC process established a neutralization mechanism, eliminating the need for further treatment before discharge. External aeration and polarity changes at intervals mitigated passivation, enhancing COD removal (61% to 69%). Voltage testing (1 V, 3 V, 5 V, 7 V) revealed a direct correlation, peaking at 91% efficiency with 5 V. Specific energy consumption was 2.34 kWh g−1, and sludge generation varied with voltage. Vertical organic field effect transistors (VOFETs) are of paramount importance due to their fast switching speed, low power consumption, and higher density on a chip compared to lateral OFETs. The low charge carrier mobility in organic semiconductors and longer channel lengths in lateral OFETs lead to higher operating voltages. The channel length in VOFETs can be less than 100 nm which reduces the size of the channel and hence the operating voltages. Another important factor in the operation of VOFETs is the thickness and width of the source electrode. The channel length, source electrode thickness and width sets the miniaturization limit of the VOFETs. The graphene monolayer can be exploited as a source electrode due to its thinness, high carrier mobility, and metallic behaviors. However, for better gate modulation, perforations in the source material are desired. Here, we simulate the VOFET having perforated graphene monolayer as a source electrode and n-type organic semiconductor N, N′-dioctyl-3,4,9,10-perylenedicarboximide (PTCDI-C8) as an active channel material, while aluminum as a drain electrode to predict the best-miniaturized device. The miniaturization limit of such a VOFET has a limit to the gate opening/perforation in which the minimum source width is 10 nm, as in the sub 10 nm range graphene starts behaving like a semiconductor. The subthreshold swing, deduced from the drain current (J D) versus gate voltage (V G) graph, advocates the limit of the organic semiconductor height/channel length to 50 nm, while 50 nm for the gate. Accurate and fast breath monitoring is of great importance for various healthcare applications, for example, medical diagnoses, studying sleep apnea, and early detection of physiological disorders. Devices meant for such applications tend to be uncomfortable for the subject (patient) and pricey. Therefore, there is a need for a cost-effective, lightweight, small-dimensional, and non-invasive device whose presence does not interfere with the observed signals. This paper reports on the fabrication of a highly sensitive human respiratory sensor based on silicon nanowires (SiNWs) fabricated by a top-down method of metal-assisted chemical-etching (MACE). Besides other important factors, reducing the final cost of the sensor is of paramount importance. One of the factors that increases the final price of the sensors is using gold (Au) electrodes. Herein, we investigate the sensor's response using aluminum (Al) electrodes as a cost-effective alternative, considering the fact that the electrode's work function is crucial in electronic device design, impacting device electronic properties and electron transport efficiency at the electrode–semiconductor interface. Therefore a comparison is made between SiNWs breath sensors made from both p-type and n-type silicon to investigate the effect of the dopant and electrode type on the SiNWs respiratory sensing functionality. A distinct directional variation was observed in the sample's response with Au and Al electrodes. Finally, performing a qualitative study revealed that the electrical resistance across the SiNWs renders greater sensitivity to breath than to dry air pressure. In this study, the effects of the pH of tannery wastewater obtained from a local leather processing factory on the removal of COD and turbidity, and cost of theelectrocoagulation process was investigated. Studies were carried out under two different operatingconditions. The highest COD removal efficiency was obtained as 83.5% when the initial pH was set to 3, while the energy consumption at this pH was found to be 3.88 kwh m−3. In studies where pH was kept constant, the highest removal efficiency obtained was 83.33% at pH = 5. In this case, the energy consumption was determined as 2.44 kWh m−3. The total cost of the system was calculated as 1.0899 $ m−3 under controlled pH conditions and 0.8761 $ m−3with uncontrolled pH. Studies show that the COD removal kinetics are more suited to 2nd degree kinetics. The highest removal rate for uncontrolled pH was k2 = 0.0791 L g−1 min−1 at pH = 3. Petroleum refineries widely use γ-Al2O3 in multiphase reactors as a catalyst support material. The techniques used to synthesize this support are usually expensive and complicated. In the present study, high-purity nano-γ-Al2O3 was produced from aluminum waste (scrap) for the first time, using a novel eco-friendly electrolysis method. A special electrical cell consisting of two aluminum electrodes was designed and manufactured for this electrolysis process. The electrochemical reactions in the cell were managed by an efficient control system. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results indicated that the structure of the prepared nano-γ-Al2O3 was highly crystalline with high purity. The total surface area and pore size of the synthesized nano-γ-Al2O3 were 219 m2/g and 0.316 cm2/g, respectively. The prepared nano-alumina in this work can be used successfully as a catalyst support for petroleum industry applications. Additionally, the electrolysis method is characterized by high economic feasibility with a production rate of 91.7% and the yield of produced nano-γ-Al2O3 was (0.053 g/cm h). The presence of copper in aqueous environments such as drinking water has led to several environmental effects, such as flavor and odor. The increase in Cu levels in ground and surface water has been mainly attributed to anthropogenic and natural sources. Consequently, this applied-analytical study aimed to investigate copper removal from urban drinking water through batch reactor electrocoagulation/flotation (ECF) with aluminum electrodes. The copper removal efficiency was evaluated under various operating conditions of current density (0.8–2.4 mA/cm2), initial concentration (1–100 mg/L), pH (3.5–10.5), and time (10–30 min). Cu was determined using the method outlined in the standard procedures (3500-Cu B at 4571 nm). The results indicated that increasing the current density from 0.8 to 2.4 mA/cm2 and the reaction time from 10 to 30 min improved Cu+2 removal efficiency (from 95 to 100%). In addition, the results demonstrated that Cu+2 reduction is 100% with an initial concentration of 100 mg/L, a pH of 7.5, a reaction time of 30 min, and an anode current density of 2.4 mA/cm2. The Taguchi method results for copper removal efficiency show that reaction time is the most significant variable. Furthermore, Cu removal kinetics models in an ECF reactor are second-order (R2 > 0.92). The Cu removal in the ECF reactor is due to redox and adsorption. Moreover, the operational costs of Cu treatment with Al electrode pairs are estimated to range from 8857 and 9636 Rial/kg of Cu removed. The steadily high interest in metal oxides, including in the form of fine powders, has led to a rapid increase in their production, the search for new synthetic methods and the expansion of possible applications. CO 2 has proven itself as a cheap and abundant source of mild oxidant, which can potentially be used for oxidation reactions. However, the key problem of CO 2 application is the necessity to break the bonds of the CO 2 molecule that requires a large amount of energy. This work presents a fundamentally new approach for metal oxide synthesis, when applying CO 2 as a gaseous precursor and oxidant, based on application of a pulsed arc discharge plasma of the electroerosion type. The implementation of the proposed method called plasma dynamic synthesis results in obtaining dispersed metal oxides that is demonstrated by the examples of Cu–O, Fe–O, Ti–O and Al–O systems. The influence of the metal-containing plasma type and operation modes on the formation of metal-oxide dispersed materials is studied. The multi-pulse operation mode in the considered system with titanium and aluminum electrodes provides obtaining almost completely oxidized products that is found to depend on the electronegativity of the initial metals. When applying aluminum electrodes, the process not only provides a high productivity of obtaining dispersed materials (up to 15 g per cycle), but also allows the CO 2 conversion rate of up to 14.5%. Moreover, the electroerosion plasma demonstrates the energy efficiency of CO 2 decomposition exceeding other plasma-based methods due to ongoing exothermic reactions of metal oxide formation. The as-synthesized products can be used to obtain bulk ceramic materials that is shown by the example of aluminum oxide powders. The conventional electrode aluminum used in electrocoagulation (EC) for the textile wastewater undergoes pitting type of corrosion, so dissolution of the same is very high during electrolysis. This research focuses on the treatment of real-time textile effluent with copper electrodes that corrode uniformly during electrolysis, with optimizing operating parameters for high color removal efficiency (CRE%). The sludge acquired was analyzed by XPS and XRD to study the mechanism of dye removal. The treated effluent was subjected to phytotoxicity analysis using Vigna radiata to study the toxicity effect of the intermediary products. 98.6% of CRE was attained in treating the effluent with copper electrodes. XPS and XRD results showed that both Cu(OH)2 and CuO served as coagulants in the dye removal. The phytotoxicity results showed that the percentage of germination, shoot and root lengths of Vigna radiata in the treated effluent were similar to the results obtained for the control. Plasma simulations are powerful tools for understanding fundamental plasma science phenomena and for process optimisation in applications. To ensure their quantitative accuracy, they must be validated against experiments. In this work, such an experimental validation is performed for a one dimensional in space and three dimensional in velocity space particle-in-cell simulation complemented with the Monte Carlo treatment of collision processes of a capacitively coupled radio frequency plasma driven at 13.56 MHz and operated in neon gas. In a geometrically symmetric reactor the electron density in the discharge centre and the spatio-temporal distribution of the electron impact excitation rate from the ground into the Ne 2p1 level are measured by a microwave cutoff probe and phase resolved optical emission spectroscopy, respectively. The measurements are conducted for electrode gaps between 50 mm and 90 mm, neutral gas pressures between 20 mTorr and 50 mTorr, and peak-to-peak values of the driving voltage waveform between 250 V and 650 V. Simulations are performed under identical discharge conditions. In the simulations, various combinations of surface coefficients characterising the interactions of electrons and heavy particles with the anodised aluminium electrode surfaces are adopted. We find, that the simulations using a constant effective heavy particle induced secondary electron (SE) emission coefficient of 0.3 and a realistic electron–surface interaction model (which considers energy-dependent and material specific elastic and inelastic electron reflection, as well as the emission of true SEs from the surface) yield results which are in good quantitative agreement with the experimental data. Plasma polymerized (PP) methyl acrylate (MA) and vinyl acetate (VA) composite thin films were deposited onto glass substrate varying MA and VA monomer concentrations. Thickness of the composite polymers is observed to vary on the MA and VA monomer ratios, where MA is found more reactive. The FESEM images of the composite polymers show better surface morphology compared to those of the homopolymers. Appearance of broad absorption bands in the FTIR spectra of polymer indicates the structural changes compared to monomer during polymerization. Thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry indicate that composite films are thermally more stable (up to 617 K) compared to homopolymer thin films (563 K). The current density versus voltage (J–V) characteristics of PP(MA-VA) composite films (sandwiched between aluminum electrodes) with different MA and VA ratios showed that the J values of the composite films gradually increase with elevating VA monomer and also with temperature (298–373 K). On the other hand, this value increases with decreasing the thickness of the composite films, which complies with the other studies. The conduction of the thickness-dependent composite films showed Ohmic in nature in the lower voltage region (< 10 V) while the space charge-limited conduction is found to be dominated in the higher voltage region (> 10 V) operating over the entire range of temperature. The activation energy at room temperature was found to be ~ 0.019 eV in the Ohmic region and 0.260 eV in the non-Ohmic region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nanoplastics pose a significant global environmental concern, as they can accumulate emerging pollutants and enter the food chain, endangering human health and ecosystems. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been identified as the primary source of micro and nanoplastic contamination, necessitating the development of effective removal methods. This study investigates the efficacy of electrolysis-assisted flotation (EF) process for removing nanoplastics from synthetic wastewater, using polystyrene-type nanoparticles synthesized from expanded polystyrene waste (EPS) as representative nanoplastic contaminants. Electrolysis experiments were conducted using parallel aluminium electrodes under low-voltage conditions. The study systematically explores the influence of various process parameters, including electrode spacing, salt concentration, nanoplastics concentration, and applied voltage, on the removal efficiency of nanoplastics. The removal efficiency was evaluated using a turbidity meter and dynamic light scattering technique. The derived count rate (DCR) obtained from dynamic light scattering supplements the nephelometric turbidity units (NTU) and provides a reliable estimate of the nanoplastics sample concentration. Under optimized conditions, with a specified electrolyte concentration and pH of 7.2 ± 0.3, the EF process achieved an impressive removal efficiency of nearly 95 % (94 % per DCR). A notable advantage of the proposed method is forming a foamy layer on top of the reactor when nanoplastics and coagulants are mixed, facilitating easy removal by simple scraping. This study provides valuable insights into developing an eco-friendly and sustainable approach for the large-scale removal of nanoplastics. A magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) thruster is the next-generation electric jet engine for maritime applications. It eliminates the moving mechanical components that make the noises and reduces physical harm to sea creatures. This paper finds that aluminum electrodes have higher conductivity and less capacitive value in a KCl solution than the 316 stainless steel and zinc in MHD applications. Further, the AC operation can mitigate the power loss during electrolysis and power loss while on the water. The new optimal coil design with the enclosed-type ferrite layout of the MHD thruster is addressed by this simulation study. The AC operation and electric drive with a Lorentz force analysis will be demonstrated. Metallic aluminum is an attractive anode owing to its high specific capacity, earth abundance, and low cost. However, the poor reversibility of Al deposition/dissolution and Al dendrites have impeded its deployment. Herein, a strategy for constructing a lattice‐matching layer (LML) to regulate the behavior of Al deposition/dissolution is demonstrated. Various experiments and theoretical calculations validate that gold LML as an example can significantly enhance the nucleation density and reduce average particle size, which achieve highly reversible, dendrite‐free, durable, and anode‐free Al anodes. The metallic Al shows stable Al deposition/dissolution on Au@Ti substrate for more than 4500 h with an average Coulombic efficiency of 99.92%, which is a record‐high reported value. Furthermore, the anode‐free full cell based on Au@Ti anode and expanded graphite cathode exhibits outstanding long‐term stability for 900 cycles with the capacity retention rate of 80%. Activation energy, bipolar resistance switching behavior, and the electrical conduction transport properties of ITOX:SiO2 thin film resistive random access memory (RRAM) devices were observed and discussed. The ITOX:SiO2 thin films were prepared using a co-sputtering deposition method on the TiN/Si substrate. For the RRAM device structure fabrication, an Al/ITOX:SiO2/TiN/Si structure was prepared by using aluminum for the top electrode and a TiN material for the bottom electrode. In addition, grain growth, defect reduction, and RRAM device performance of the ITOX:SiO2 thin film for the various oxygen gas flow conditions were observed and described. Based on the I-V curve measurements of the RRAM devices, the turn on-off ratio and the bipolar resistance switching properties of the Al/ITOX:SiO2/TiN/Si RRAM devices in the set and reset states were also obtained. At low operating voltages and high resistance values, the conductance mechanism exhibits hopping conduction mechanisms for set states. Moreover, at high operating voltages, the conductance mechanism behaves as an ohmic conduction current mechanism. Finally, the Al/ITOX:SiO2/TiN/Si RRAM devices demonstrated memory window properties, bipolar resistance switching behavior, and nonvolatile characteristics for next-generation nonvolatile memory applications. We report the use of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS) as a transducing material in the fabrication of mechanical-to-electrical conversion devices based on the flexoelectric-like response of this polymer. Devices are made in a cantilever-based three-layer stainless-steel/PEDOT:PSS/top metal electrode configuration to assess the effective transverse flexoelectric coefficient μ 12 ′ . We investigated the influence of the nature of the top electrode in the flexoelectric response comparing samples with gold and aluminum top electrodes and demonstrated the huge impact of adding a small fraction of a second dopant such as xylitol to the PEDOT:PSS polymer blend and the benefits of a post-treatment of the polymer film with ethanol and methanol on the flexoelectric coefficient. The combination of xylitol addition and the rinsing of the polymer films with ethanol and methanol, along with the use of gold as a top electrode, led to a significant improvement of μ 12 ′ to ca. 24 μC m−1, which is in the range of those reported for high permittivity oxide materials. We present a novel electric permittivity sensor based on Bleustein–Gulyaev (BG) waves. Toward that end, we formulate the nonlinear electromechanical partial differential equations governing a BG wave resonator. We find that the permittivity of the material-under-test changes the sensor natural frequencies, thereby enabling the implementation of a frequency-shift permittivity sensor. We also find that the sensor sensitivity is enhanced by increasing bias voltage to drive the sensor into the nonlinear regime. Bias was found to be limited by electrical breakdown. The sensor was fabricated by depositing aluminum electrodes on a shear-poled lead zirconate titanate piezoelectric substrate. Two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) batch electrochemical degradation (ECD) of raw cotton industry wastewater (CIWW) was adopted using stainless steel (SS) and aluminium (Al) electrodes. ECD as a treatment option was aimed at removing priority quality parameters, viz. chemical oxygen demand (COD), colour, chloride, nitrate, etc. COD removal of 85 and 80% were achieved by using 3D SS and 2D SS electrodes operated at 6 V (0.9 A) for a maximum electrolysis time (ET) of 30 min. Similarly, 76 and 70% COD removal were achieved for 3D Al and 2D Al electrodes, respectively. Simultaneous colour removal in the 2D ECD system using SS and Al electrodes was low by 12 and 11% compared to the 3D ECD system. Water quality parameters, viz. total dissolved solids, chloride, nitrate, phosphates, and sulphate were also removed by 3D (SS and Al) and 2D (SS and Al) electrodes. Higher pollutant removal efficiencies were observed at 30 min ET for 3D SS electrodes compared to 2D SS, 3D Al, and 2D Al. Post-ECD slurry showed good settling characteristics for SS electrodes generating dense and sturdy flocs giving a low sludge volume index values for 2D SS electrodes compared to other electrode options. Municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants produce large amounts of sludge containing high levels of organic, chemical, and microbial pollutants. Unless stabilized completely and discharged safely, they may become potential pollution sources threatening soil and water bodies. This study investigated H2O2 oxidation and electrocoagulation as pretreatments to improve stabilization of an urban sludge. The H2O2 oxidation was optimized with respect to H2O2 dosage and initial sludge pH-H2O2. Batch electrocoagulation experiments were conducted using aluminum, iron, and zinc electrodes to investigate the effect of treatment period, current density, and pH. The effectiveness was compared in terms of solubilization of sludge, disintegration degree, and reduction of total solids. Sludge settling velocity after disintegration by both H2O2 oxidation and electrocoagulation were measured with respect to the operating conditions. The obtained results indicated that the high rate of sludge disintegration (63.3%) was obtained with aluminum electrodes, which has lower operating costs than iron and zinc electrodes. The H2O2 oxidation reached a maximum disintegration degree of 50%. Additionally, with aluminum and iron electrodes, sludge settleability was enhanced with both H2O2 oxidation and electrocoagulation. High-current cathodic pulses on an aluminum electrode in solutions containing sufficiently high concentrations of Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Sc, Y, or La nitrates in a mixture with H3BO3, HF, H3PO4, or H4P2O7 are accompanied by an intense intrinsic luminescence of a number of heavy metals, the ions of which are captured by salt nanofilms and luminescence under the action of hot electrons when are in an environment characteristic of crystal phosphors. The effect of the cathode nanophosphor (CNP) was found in more than 100 systems; photographs are presented for most of the systems. Ga, In, Tl, Ge, Sn, Pb, Mn, Cu, Ag, Cd, Ce, Tb, and Zr ions were activators. The effect of matrix composition on the spectral and kinetic characteristics of the CNP was shown on several examples; a qualitative description of the phenomenon is given, and the prospects for its application to chemical analysis are considered. The superior engineering properties and excellent biocompatibility of titanium alloy (Ti6Al4V) stimulate applications in biomedical industries. Electric discharge machining, a widely used process in advanced applications, is an attractive option that simultaneously offers machining and surface modification. In this study, a comprehensive list of roughening levels of process variables such as pulse current, pulse ON time, pulse OFF time, and polarity, along with four tool electrodes of graphite, copper, brass, and aluminum are evaluated (against two experimentation phases) using a SiC powder-mixed dielectric. The process is modeled using the adaptive neural fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) to produce surfaces with relatively low roughness. A thorough parametric, microscopical, and tribological analysis campaign is established to explore the physical science of the process. For the case of the surface generated through aluminum, a minimum friction force of ~25 N is observed compared with the other surfaces. The analysis of variance shows that the electrode material (32.65%) is found to be significant for the material removal rate, and the pulse ON time (32.15%) is found to be significant for arithmetic roughness. The increase in pulse current to 14 A shows that the roughness increased to ~4.6 µm with a 33% rise using the aluminum electrode. The increase in pulse ON time from 50 µs to 125 µs using the graphite tool resulted in a rise in roughness from ~4.5 µm to ~5.3 µm, showing a 17% rise. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Improving the energy density of Li-ion batteries is critical to meet the requirements of electric vehicles and energy storage systems. In this work, LiFePO4 active material was combined with single-walled carbon nanotubes as the conductive additive to develop high-energy-density cathodes for rechargeable Li-ion batteries. The effect of the morphology of the active material particles on the cathodes' electrochemical characteristics was investigated. Although providing higher packing density of electrodes, spherical LiFePO4 microparticles had poorer contact with an aluminum current collector and showed lower rate capability than plate-shaped LiFePO4 nanoparticles. A carbon-coated current collector helped enhance the interfacial contact with spherical LiFePO4 particles and was instrumental in combining high electrode packing density (1.8 g cm−3) with excellent rate capability (100 mAh g−1 at 10C). The weight percentages of carbon nanotubes and polyvinylidene fluoride binder in the electrodes were optimized for electrical conductivity, rate capability, adhesion strength, and cyclic stability. The electrodes that were formulated with 0.25 wt.% of carbon nanotubes and 1.75 wt.% of the binder demonstrated the best overall performance. The optimized electrode composition was used to formulate thick free-standing electrodes with high energy and power densities, achieving the areal capacity of 5.9 mAh cm−2 at 1C rate. In this study, the treatment of leachate nanofiltration (NF) concentrate, which is high-strength wastewater, by advanced electrocoagulation (EC) was investigated. The EC process, in which aluminum electrodes were used, was enhanced by persulfate (PS) addition (EC-PS). First, the control experiments were conducted then the operating parameters of the process were optimized by the Box-Behnken design. Process variables were PS dose, applied current, initial pH, and reaction time while chemical oxygen demand (COD), total organic carbon (TOC), UV 254 , and color removal were the system responses. COD, TOC, UV 254 , and color removal efficiencies by the validation studies performed under optimized conditions (PS dose: 0.590 g/L; applied current: 0.710 A; initial pH: 5, and reaction time: 31.4 min) were 62.6%, 54.3%, 74.2%, and 88.0%, respectively. Based on the degree of effect on COD and TOC removal, statistical analysis parameters can be listed as linear, quadratic, and interactive from higher to lower one. The linear parameters can be listed as initial pH, applied current, reaction time, and PS dose according to the level of their effect on removal efficiencies. Quenching experiments showed that sulfate and hydroxyl radicals work together in the process while hydroxyl radicals were more effective. The specific energy consumption and total cost of the process under optimized operating conditions were 1.90 kWh/kg COD and 1.40 $/m3 respectively. By obtaining the spectrum of the sludge formed under optimum process conditions by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis, the characteristics of the sludge were determined and Al hydroxides and hydrocarbons were present in the sludge. The Ricochet reactor neutrino observatory is planned to be installed at Institut Laue–Langevin starting in mid-2022. The scientific goal of the Ricochet collaboration is to perform a low-energy and percentage precision CENNS measurement in order to explore exotic physics scenarios beyond the standard model. To that end, Ricochet will host two cryogenic detector arrays: the CryoCube (Ge target) and the Q-ARRAY (Zn target), both with unprecedented sensitivity to O (10) eV nuclear recoils. The CryoCube will be composed of 27 Ge crystals of 38 g instrumented with NTD-Ge thermal sensor as well as aluminum electrodes operated at 10 mK in order to measure both the ionization and the heat energies arising from a particle interaction. To be a competitive CENNS detector, the CryoCube array is designed with the following specifications: a low-energy threshold ( ∼ 50 eV), the ability to identify and reject with a high efficiency the overwhelming electromagnetic backgrounds (gamma, beta, and X-rays), and a sufficient payload ( ∼ 1 kg). After a brief introduction of the future Ricochet experiment and its CryoCube, the current works and first performance results on the optimization of the heat channel, and the electrode designs will be presented. This study aims to evaluate the performance of rotating aluminum electrodes in the electrocoagulation reactor for removing hexavalent chromium (Cr6+) from synthetic tannery wastewater. Taguchi and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) based models were developed to obtain the optimum condition for maximum Cr6+ removal. The optimum working condition obtained by Taguchi approach for the maximum Cr6+ removal (94%) was: Initial Cr6+ concentration (Cr6+i) = 15 mg/L; Current Density (CD) = 14.25 mA/cm2; Intial pH = 5; Rotational Speed of Electrode (RSE) = 70 rpm. In contrast, the optimal condition for maximum Cr6+ ions removal (98.83%) obtained from the BR-ANN model was: Cr6+i = 15 mg/L; CD = 14.36 mA/cm2; pHi = 5.2; RSE = 73 rpm. Compared to the Taguchi model, the BR-ANN model outperformed in terms of providing higher Cr6+ removal (+ 4.83%); reduced energy demand (-0.035 KWh/gm Cr6+ remove); lower error function value (χ2 = -7.9674 and RMSE = -3.5414); and highest R2 value (0.9991). The data for the conditions 91,007 < Re < 227,517 and Sc = 102.834 were found to fit the equation for the initial Cr6+ concentration of 15 mg/l; Sh = 3.143Re0.125 Sc0.33. The Cr6+ removal kinetics was best described by Pseudo 2nd Order model, as validated by high R2 and lower error functions value. The SEM and XRF analysis confirmed that Cr6+ was adsorbed and precipitated along with metal hydroxide sludge. The rotating electrode led to lower SEEC (10.25 kWh/m3), as well as maximum Cr6+ removal (98.83%), compared to EC process with stationary electrodes. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The characteristics of a single solar cell made by CdS thin film deposition on a silicon glass substrate were estimated using simulation models in this study. An aluminum electrode was attached to a silicon wafer to produce a heterojunction, and the indium fingers were fashioned into another electrode and connected directly to the CdS layer. Simulation steps were performed using PV*SOL 3.0 software package and bias points (ISC, VOC) models. Hydraulic fracturing oil- and gas-produced water is frequently highly impaired. While it is often deep well injected, there is a great deal of interest in treating and recovering this water for beneficial uses. However, multiple-unit operations are needed if these wastewaters are to be recovered. Electrocoagulation is considered a promising pretreatment technology. Herein, we have investigated the use of aluminum electrodes for electrocoagulation as a pretreatment operation. The effects of electrode arrangement, applied current, reaction time, pH and inter-electrode distance on the quality of the treated water have been investigated. The results obtained here indicate that electrocoagulation can obtain good removal of turbidity (95%), total suspended solids (TSS) (90%) and total organic carbon (TOC) (69%) by carefully choosing the reaction conditions. Sedimentation was used to separate the treated water from the sludge. The performance of the electrocoagulation process depends strongly on the quality of the feed water. The viability of a practical continuous electrocoagulation process will depend on the volume (footprint) of the reactor, which in turn will depend on operating conditions and the quality of the feed water. The development of sustainable, safe, low-cost, high energy and density power-density energy storage devices is most needed to electrify our modern needs to reach a carbon-neutral society by ~2050. Batteries are the backbones of future sustainable energy sources for both stationary off-grid and mobile plug-in electric vehicle applications. Biomass-derived carbon materials are extensively researched as efficient and sustainable electrode/anode candidates for lithium/sodium-ion chemistries due to their well-developed tailored textures (closed pores and defects) and large microcrystalline interlayer spacing and therefore opens-up their potential applications in sustainable potassium and aluminum batteries. The main purpose of this perspective is to brief the use of biomass residues for the preparation of carbon electrodes for potassium and aluminum batteries annexed to the biomass-derived carbon physicochemical structures and their aligned electrochemical properties. In addition, we presented an outlook as well as some challenges faced in this promising area of research. We believe that this review enlightens the readers with useful insights and a reasonable understanding of issues and challenges faced in the preparation, physicochemical properties and application of biomass-derived carbon materials as anodes and cathode candidates for potassium and aluminum batteries, respectively. In addition, this review can further help material scientists to seek out novel electrode materials from different types of biomasses, which opens up new avenues in the fabrication/development of next-generation sustainable and high-energy density batteries. This in vitro experimental investigation aimed to provide a novel method for preventing blood clotting based on the electrochemical characteristics of blood. Using this method in cases such as dialysis can minimize the risk of blood clots and also avoid hemorrhagic risk for patients. Blood samples were collected from 13 sheep (45 kg) (25 mL), and the clotting time (CT) was measured using a 20-min cutoff after they were separated into control and experimental samples. The test blood sample was put in a cell designed with two aluminum electrodes (positive pole/anode) located in a container containing 0.9% sodium chloride (as a salt bridge) and a platinum (negative pole/cathode) linked to a power supply (−3.5 V, 1 mA/cm2). Biochemical and hematological tests to check blood damage and clotting were performed. The control sample coagulated after 8 min, while the electrified blood did not, even at the end of the cutoff time. Among hematologic and biochemical tests, the average time of prothrombin time (PT) and partial thromboplastin time (PTT) was significantly different between the control and test samples (p = 0.001). Our findings on electrified blood with expanding CT, PT, and PTT times revealed that the electric current passing through the blood enhanced the CT. Furthermore, no change in biochemical or hematological factors demonstrated that this current had no detrimental effect on the blood. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Oilfield water-flooding has been treated by electro coagulation technique using aluminum electrode. The results show that the electrocoagulation has a good removal effect on removing oil in oilfield water-flooding. The influences of the factors on the removal efficiency were investigated, such as electrode material, electrolysis time, current density, pH and electrode plate spacing. The experimental results showed that when using aluminum electrode plate, electrolytic time was 8 min, electrode plate spacing was 20 mm, current density was 5 mA/cm², oilfield water injection can meet the enterprise standard of oilfield water-flooding. At the same time, the electro coagulation technology has high efficiency in the treatment of oilfield water-flooding, and the cost of the aluminum electrode plate is low, so it has a good application prospect in the treatment of oilfield water-flooding.
