The Zagrebačka county and the city of Zagreb are the main traffic, cultural and economic area of the central Croatian macro region, consisting of the neighbouring counties and the Medimurska county. The traffic function of this area, especially of the Zagrebačka county and the city of Zagreb, are extremely important for the internal linking of the central Croatian macro region, and thereby, the Republic of Croatia as a whole, especially in terms of its internal connecting by means of highway and railway transport.

The paper analyses new projects of the European traffic network as well as the extension of corridors defined in 1997 in Helsinki. For connecting of the Baltic and Central European countries with the Adriatic, the projects TEM 1 and 2, Via Baltica and TINA are of great importance. The programme of the TINA project includes road and railway corridors and relies on the 7th Danube corridor. The interrelations between traffic branches in the EU are presented, with the greatest share of road traffic, followed by railway and river traffic. The comparison indicates similar relations between single transportation branches in the period from 1979 to 1991 in the Republic of Croatia.

This paper focuses on the dynamic of regional railway services in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Region. Firstly, it identifies the three phases which marked the transport regional policy since the 70's. Secondly, it rests on the use of the railway stations and it analyses the network and its relationship with the regional urban system. Thirdly, it deals with the problem of the future railway services. So, it points out the network potentialités (new customers of the periurban areas ; interconnexion facilities) and its limits (the strenghening of the " car system " in the urban process)., Cet article est centré sur l'analyse de la dynamique des services de transports ferroviaires dans la Région Nord-Pas-de-Calais. Il présente d'abord les étapes qui ont marqué son évolution depuis les années 70 en identifiant trois phases, ponctuées par l'arrivée du TGV. Il prend ensuite appui sur la fréquentation des gares pour étudier le réseau dans son ensemble et ses relations avec l'armature urbaine régionale. Adaptation of passenger and freight transport companies to new market requirements takes much more effort in respect of the others, which is primarily due to the very nature of transport services. Any analysis of a railway company's business operations and of the transport services market will show that the success of the whole management system is correlated to the accomplished degree of market adaptation. Hence the crucial importance, both tactical and strategic, of supporting the decision-making process affecting the transport services market. The paper analyse the potential advantages of an expert system which would help decision-makers arrive to right business conclusions, suggest actions to be taken, evaluate the current state of affairs and anticipate events relevant to the position of the Croatian Railways on the transport services market.

U radu je izložen razvoj ideje o izgradnji riječne luke u Zagrebu, a detaljnije se analizira posljednja predložena lokacija u Rugvici. Objašnjeni su razlozi odabira te lokacija i njezine prirodne osobine. Konačno, razmatra se gospodarstveno značenje predviđene luke kao prometnog čvorišta i ocjenjuje realnost planiranog prometa u luci., The main subject in this article is the evolution of the idea of establishing of a river port in Zagreb. A detailed analysis of the last proposed location in Rugvica is given. Reasons of choice for this location and its physical characteristics are presented. Finally, the economic significance of the river port as a new transport node as well as the reality of the planed merchandise transfer are cosidered.

In this paper, an approach for speed tuning in railway management is proposed in order to optimize journey duration and energy consumption. Indeed, in railway transportation, fastness of travel has often been preferred to other criteria, such as energy. However, for recent years, the concern due to pollution and global warming leads to develop more eco-aware transportation systems, notably for the existing rolling stocks. Nevertheless, reducing energy consumption is, most of the time, achieved at the expense of journey durations. In order to obtain compromises between journey duration and energy saving, this approach deals with a bi-criteria optimization problem, which consists in designing speed profiles integrating both criteria in order to provide patterns of speed control. For that reason, the main objective of the proposed method is to obtain a set of solutions, diversified enough to help decision-makers to choose the most suited speed profile. Based on a state-of-the-art multi-objective evolutionary algorithm, the approach searches for diversified solutions in a continuous space. So as to evaluate these solutions, the Pareto approach is used to assess and rank them. Validating the method is done by applying it on a reallife case study: the Saint-Etienne–Rive de Giers line in France. The outcomes are then detailed and analyzed in order to highlight the efficiency of the method.

Ammoniakkisäiliöiden turvallisuuden kehittämiseksi on tutkittu akustisen emission käyttömahdollisuuksia säiliöiden kunnonvalvonnassa. Ammoniakin rautatiekuljetussäiliötä on moniteroitu akustisella emissiolla kaikkiaan neljässä eri testitilanteessa, Laitteistona käytettiin pääasiassa VTT:n AKU-4 laitteistoa, jonka toiminta perustuu emissioiden paikantamiseen. Yhdessä testitilanteessa oli kuitenkin mukana myös MONPAC-menetelmällä toimiva järjestelmä, jota on käytetty eräissä maissa kaupallisiin ammoniakkisäiliöiden testauksiin. Akustisella emissiolla tehtyjen monitoraintien jälkeen testisäiliöt avattiin ja tutkittiin silmämääräisesti sekä magneettijauhemenetelmällä. Näin saatuja tuloksia on vertailtu akustisen emission antamiin tuloksiin akustisen emissiomenetelmän käyttökelpoisuuden ja luotettavuuden arvioimiseksi .
