This article engages with the shift towards an emphasis on 'resilience' in local government discourses. Using the London Borough of Newham as a case study, it will argue that contradictory definitions of the term have, until recently, been used to justify the erosion of the third sector in the borough, specifically groups who support religious and linguistic minorities. Interviews and documentary analysis are used to consider how the concept of resilience had a racializing effect in this borough, and we argue that as a facet of policy resilience risks treating plurality as a threat rather than a strength. This is highlighted through an examination of how the third sector was characterised as retarding individuals' resilience and promoting 'ethno-centrism' in official resilience discourse. We offer three distinctive insights on the problem of resilience as a feature of policy, firstly, that resilience has a symbolic power that makes it difficult to securitize; secondly, resilience discourses risk instituting racism within policy; and thirdly, that resilience is built against collective forms of resistance and is therefore incapable of harnessing the resources and capacities of local populations. Despite the vast acceptance of continuous improvement (CI) methodologies in manufacturing and services industries, few organisations have implemented CI in the voluntary sector (VS). This paper presents a systematic review of the literature on CI methodologies in VS. 20 publications on the application of CI methodologies in VS were included drawn from four academic databases (EBSCOHost, Emerald Insight, Web of Science and Scopus). The review was restricted to peer-reviewed English-written academic articles published between 2000 and 2017. The findings revealed that cost reduction, increased customer satisfaction and improved staff empowerment are some of the potential benefits of implementing CI in the VS. Further, the possible challenges include resistance to change, lack of formal processes and the diversity of customers. This review underlines the critical success factors for the adoption of CI methodologies as appropriate leadership and organisational culture and staff engagement. Additionally, the paper identifies emerging trends and research gaps in this area. The findings of the study will enable VS professionals to gain a better understanding of the application of CI methodologies and will allow academics to conduct further research in this area using the identified research gaps. Third-sector organizations (TSOs) are recognized for having a unique and essential role in designing and delivering community-centred, sustainable health and well-being services. A World Café workshop at the 2023 International Conference on Integrated Care to explore perspectives on the questions explored the question: How do we characterize the role of the Third Sector in Integrated Care Systems? Are they Partners, Service Providers, Both or Neither? Attendees from Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Belgium, Denmark, and the Netherlands shared perspectives regarding facilitators and barriers to engaging TSOs in integrated care systems, drawing on experiences and practices from their communities and health systems. Building from participant perspectives, we posit that while cross-sectoral alliances between government and voluntary organizations are possible, and this engagement can contribute substantial health-promoting value to society, much work remains to be done. Meaningful collaboration requires attitudinal shifts, new working methods, rebalancing power within the relationships, and sufficient resources to support the collaboration. Creative approaches to facilitating positive engagement of TSOs within integrated care systems can address long-standing barriers and misunderstandings. Background: Within many advanced healthcare systems, patient advocacy associations are gaining a more relevant role in healthcare policy decisions. These associations provide help, representation, and voice to patients and citizens. However, although their role is important, a paucity of research exists analyzing their foundation dynamics, including their organizational decision, from a managerial perspective. To fill this knowledge gap, we formulated two research questions to investigate the motivations underlying the foundation of patient advocacy associations and the institutional pressures influencing the changes that have occurred in these associations throughout their evolution., Methods: Using a semi-structured questionnaire developed as part of a larger research project, we collected data about 31 patient advocacy associations operating within the Italian National Health Service. We employed qualitative analysis to examine the associations' birth and evolution as well as the motivations and influences driving change within the sampled organizations., Results: Questionnaire responses provided information about the patient advocacy associations' histories and highlighted their close links with the Italian National Health Service. Our results indicated the motivations for the associations' establishment could be grouped into five categories: support at the system level, patient protection and support, actions to increase awareness, actions for improving patients' health and quality of life, and dissemination of knowledge. Dans cet article, l’objectif est de présenter les initiatives mises en place localement par les organismes communautaires pour lutter contre le mal-logement au sein de deux quartiers tremplins d’immigration de Montréal. Basé sur une méthodologie qualitative, il s’appuie sur un travail d’observation participante mené pendant près de trois ans comme bénévole au sein de deux organismes de défense des droits des locataires, le Comité d’action de Parc-Extension (CAPE) et le Bureau Info Logement (BIL) de Saint-Michel. La recherche mobilise également l’analyse d’une trentaine d’entretiens semi-directifs conduits auprès de différents professionnels du secteur du logement dans les deux quartiers. Dans les quartiers Parc-Extension et Saint-Michel, les résidents, pour la plupart des travailleurs pauvres immigrants, font face à de nombreux problèmes d’insalubrité et de surpeuplement des logements, mais aussi aux impacts des dynamiques de gentrification qui s’opèrent dans ces espaces de transit. Pour répondre à ces différents enjeux et compenser le manque d’intervention criant des pouvoirs publics, les organismes communautaires se mobilisent et proposent des réponses innovantes allant de l’accompagnement individuel des locataires à la promotion du logement social à travers des manifestations dans l’espace public, en passant par la participation aux projets de développement de logements communautaires adaptés aux besoins des ménages. Cependant, alors que le tiers-secteur semble jouer un rôle de plus en plus important à l’échelle locale, on peut se demander si cette prise en charge des problèmes de mal-logement par les organismes communautaires ne participe pas à légitimer le manque d’intervention des acteurs institutionnels dans le secteur.

The purpose of the article is to analyze the practices of Russian third sector adaptation to pandemic conditions in the context of the current state policy of priority support for NGOs - social service providers. The author applies the following research methods: the interpretation of the situational analysis results of the state support measures for NGOs during the pandemic, conducted within the framework of the All-Russian Civil Forum-2020, as well as an expert interview of 10 employees of NGOs included in the registers of social service providers and 10 employees of socially oriented NGOs not included in these registers. As a result, it is revealed that the success of NGOs adaptation to pandemic conditions depends on organizational and professional-activity factors. It is argued that NGOs that are not included in the registers of social service providers were able to better adapt to the pandemic conditions, more actively raise funds from various sources, improved the skills of self-reflection, strategic planning, social design, risk management, network design, prevention of professional burnout. Having transferred many events to the online format, such NGOs managed to keep and even enlarge the number of beneficiaries, which is partly due to the increase in free time of target groups. On the contrary, NGOs in social service providers registers appeared less adapted to the pandemic. Having not received budget funding in the expected amount, most of them failed to attract bank loans for the purposes of statutory activities and turned out to be less effective in mastering the skills of managing sustainable development. The results of the study suggest the need to overcome the growing trend of discretionary development of the third sector in modern Russia. At the same time, it is advisable to implement elements of the "gardener" model into the Russian practice of state-society relations. This model is practiced in a number of countries with stable democratic traditions and assumes the creation of equal organizational and legal conditions for supporting all the NGOs engaged in socially oriented activities.

Due to the decrease of public and private funds invested in the production and regeneration of public spaces in Southern Italy, collaborative efforts among public/private actors seems to be a compelling alternative strategy for supporting urban transformations. While both planning and policy approaches have been unable to completely adapt to meet these growing demands, many actors, such as the third sector, within distressed neighborhoods and communities, act as place-makers and seem to be the last stronghold of resistance for exercising the right to the city. What can be done to overcome the classical rhetoric on the informal/formal dichotomy in the urban transformations and to reinforce the efforts of creating inclusive and enabling public spaces in new experimental ways? This paper proposes a reflection on this current dilemma through the presentation of ongoing re-appropriation and self-recovery practices over the last four years in San Berillo, a neglected and historical Sicilian red-light district in Catania, Italy. This article seeks to re-signify the concept of "inclusive space" by exploring the dialectical elements and conflicts and the collaborative paths between institutions, community and third sector and aimed to spawn relational processes of co-working, co-design, and mutual learning.

Given the slow policy response by governments, climate leadership by other institutions has become an essential part of maintaining policy momentum, driving innovation, and fostering social dialogue. Despite growth in carbon pricing in government and the private sector, our review suggests low, but growing, adoption of internal carbon prices (ICPs) by higher education institutions (HEIs), who may be uniquely suited to implement and refine these tools. We analyze the range of ICP tools in use by eleven U.S. HEIs and discuss tradeoffs. Our analysis identifies several reasons why proxy carbon prices may be especially well-suited to decisions (especially at the system-scale) around carbon neutrality at a wide range of institutions. Using a unique dataset covering 10 years of real-world analysis with a proxy carbon price, we analyze the interaction of ICPs with life cycle cost analysis to start to identify when and how internal carbon pricing will be most likely to shift decisions. We discuss how schools and other institutions can collaborate and experiment with these tools to help drive good climate decision-making and inform climate policy at larger scales.

Background: Weaknesses in the provision of mental health crisis support are evident and improvements that include voluntary sector provision are promoted. There is a lack of evidence regarding the contribution of the voluntary sector and how this might be used to the best effect in mental health crisis care. Aim: To investigate the contribution of voluntary sector organisations to mental health crisis care in England. Design: Multimethod sequential design with a comparative case study. Setting: England, with four case studies in North England, East England, the Midlands and London. Method: The method included a scoping literature review, a national survey of 1612 voluntary sector organisations, interviews with 27 national stakeholders and detailed mapping of the voluntary sector organisation provision in two regions (the north and south of England) to develop a taxonomy of voluntary sector organisations and to select four case studies. The case studies examined voluntary sector organisation crisis care provision as a system through interviews with local stakeholders (n = 73), eight focus groups with service users and carers and, at an individual level, narrative interviews with service users (n = 47) and carers (n = 12) to understand their crisis experience and service journey. There was extensive patient and public involvement in the study, including service users as co-researchers, to ensure validity. This affected the conduct of the study and the interpretation of the findings. The quality and the impact of the involvement was evaluated and commended. Main findings: A mental health crisis is considered a biographical disruption. Voluntary sector organisations can make an important contribution, characterised by a socially oriented and relational approach. Five types of relevant voluntary sector organisations were identified: (1) crisis-specific, (2) general mental health, (3) population-focused, (4) life-event-focused and (5) general social and community voluntary sector organisations. These voluntary sector organisations provide a range of support and have specific expertise. The availability and access to voluntary sector organisations varies and inequalities were evident for rural communities; black, Asian and minority ethnic communities; people who use substances; and people who identified as having a personality disorder. There was little evidence of well-developed crisis systems, with an underdeveloped approach to prevention and a lack of ongoing support. Limitations: The survey response was low, reflecting the nature of voluntary sector organisations and demands on their time. This was a descriptive study, so evaluating outcomes from voluntary sector organisation support was beyond the scope of the study. Conclusions: The current policy discourse frames a mental health crisis as an urgent event. Viewing a mental health crisis as a biographical disruption would better enable a wide range of contributory factors to be considered and addressed. Voluntary sector organisations have a distinctive and important role to play. The breadth of this contribution needs to be acknowledged and its role as an accessible alternative to inpatient provision prioritised. Future work: A whole-system approach to mental health crisis provision is needed. The NHS, local authorities and the voluntary sector should establish how to effectively collaborate to meet the local population’s needs and to ensure the sustainability of the voluntary sector. According to the latest report of the Central Statistical Office[1], about 91.8 thousand non-governmental organizations operate actively in Poland. It is estimated that more than half of them are faced with the dilemma of applying simplified record of revenues and costs as an alternative to accounting books. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is a benefit and cost analysis of both these forms of accounting records, with particular regard to objective premises determining the purposefulness of their application. To achieve this goal the following hypothesis was adopted: internal determinants of the NGO determine the choice of the form of accounting records. The analysis shows that the greatest benefits resulting from the application of simplified records of revenues and costs will be related to small non-governmental organizations, focused primarily on the implementation of local social initiatives and whose main source of funding are membership fees and donations. In turn, those entities, whose aspirations extend beyond local markets, characterized by a large diversification of financing sources and high growth potential, should decide on maintaining accounting books. The author applied the following research methods: literature studies, the analysis of legal acts as well as induction and synthesis methods used in the formulation of conclusions.

The third sector is the civic sector, which consists of entities most often called NGOs, but in addition to this definition, there are also several names: social organizations, non-profit organizations, voluntary organizations, civic organizations. The purpose of this article is to show the role of image managing and the directions of sport clubs development. The article will be based on research conducted on sports fans in terms of their attitude to the clubs and the importance of their image in the decision to purchase services and sports products. In addition, model-based solutions for the influence of the image on the functioning of sports clubs and the influence of external factors on this image will be presented. For the harmonious development of a sports organization in the local community, it is necessary to have a positive image, and any negative image-related phenomena negatively affect the basic activity of the club. The basic hypothesis assumes that there are constant factors that are the core of the sports club’s image and image-related factors resulting from the current image management. The result is a partial image management model in a sports club.

Sivil toplum kuruluşu STK , modern toplumlarda devlet organizasyonundan ayrı olarak toplumsal menfaatleri korumak ve geliştirmek için oluşturulmuş ve gönüllülük ilkesi çerçevesinde, kâr maksadı gütmeyen organizasyonları belirtmek için kullanılmaktadır. STK’lar devlet organizasyonundan ayrı olması dolayısıyla kendini ve toplumları yönlendirebilme yeteneği olan, hak ve özgürlükleri savunan özgür vatandaşlardan oluşan yapılardır. Günümüzde özellikle sanayileşmiş ve aynı zamanda ileri demokrasiye sahip ülkelerde STK’lar büyük gelişme göstermiştir. STK’lar toplum ve siyaset üzerinde itici güç olarak önemli yere sahiptir. Türkiye’de de özellikle 1980’lerden sonra liberal sistemden kaynaklı olarak ve demokrasinin sağlanması açısından STK’lar yaygınlaşmaya başlamıştır. Aynı zamanda siyasetin denetlenmesi açısından da sivil toplum önemli bir denetim aracı olarak yaygınlaşmıştır. The article analyzes the development and dissemination of proposals for expand the school day by the Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas em Educação, Cultura e Ação Comunitária (CENPEC) from 1993 to 2006. We seek to the propositions, and persuasion strategies used along the civil and politic society, from various documents signed by the NGO and its intellectuals. Next, we evaluate the assimilation of this set of propositions by Programa Mais Educação, school day expansion policy of the Federal Government, since 2007.

Abstract Background Anxiety and depression are common among older people, with up to 20% reporting such symptoms, and the prevalence increases with co-morbid chronic physical health problems. Access to treatment for anxiety and depression in this population is poor due to a combination of factors at the level of patient, practitioner and healthcare system. There is evidence to suggest that older people with anxiety and/or depression may benefit both from one-to-one interventions and group social or educational activities, which reduce loneliness, are participatory and offer some activity. Non-traditional providers (support workers) working within third-sector (voluntary) organisations are a valuable source of expertise within the community but are under-utilised by primary care practitioners. Such a resource could increase access to care, and be less stigmatising and more acceptable for older people. Methods The study is in three phases and this paper describes the protocol for phase III, which will evaluate the feasibility of recruiting general practices and patients into the study, and determine whether support workers can deliver the intervention to older people with sufficient fidelity and whether this approach is acceptable to patients, general practitioners and the third-sector providers. Phase III of the NOTEPAD study is a randomised controlled trial (RCT) that is individually randomised. It recruited participants from approximately six general practices in the UK. In total, 100 participants aged 65 years and over who score 10 or more on PHQ9 or GAD7 for anxiety or depression will be recruited and randomised to the intervention or usual general practice care. A mixed methods approach will be used and follow-up will be conducted 12 weeks post-randomisation. Discussion This study will inform the design and methods of a future full-scale RCT. Trial registration ISRCTN, ID: ISRCTN16318986. Registered 10 November 2016. The ISRCTN registration is in line with the World Health Organization Trial Registration Data Set. The present paper represents the original version of the protocol. Any changes to the protocol will be communicated to ISRCTN.

The article deals with issues of functioning of non-profit making sector and its organizations and associations. The author reviews foreign and Russian legislation, it allows to identify international criteria of attributing organizations to non-profit making. The article provides overseas research demonstrating specific features of the third sector and leading theories, which explain arising of non-profit making sector with due regard to the country aspect. On the basis of this material characteristics of non-profit making sector, such as diversity of participants and the use of commercial sector practices are shown. The author highlights the most important functions of non-profit making sector and the role of non-profit making organizations in the development of social sphere and increasing human capital, as well as their direct and indirect contribution to economy.

The nonprofit sector in Mexico has a limited size and scope, despite of the urgent need faced by millions of citizens that do not have access to the most basic needs. Although Mexicans are regarded to be supportive and generous, they tend to engage in philanthropic activities and volunteering only sporadically and through informal means. Therefore, the fundamental problem faced by the sector is the lack of institutionalization and a poor legal and fiscal environment. The current paper analyzes the origins of the sector in Mexico to identify some of the underlying factors that have influenced it and that have limited its correct development. Then, it evaluates the current status of the sector and enumerates some of the causes that are preventing current organizations from expanding and serving an increased clientele. Finally, it proposes a set of solutions, aimed to eliminate the superfluous legal and fiscal restrictions, as well as to motivate an enhanced cooperation between the government and civil society in order to provide people with the necessary relief. Understanding interactions between stakeholders and Non-Profit Organizations (NPOs) are key for developing strategies that enable NPO‘s survival and growth. Quantifying, qualifying and describing these issues through a cross-sectional mixed approach allows objective identification of elements constitutive to stakeholders, and their relative dependence on NPOs. Twenty-six NPOs located in Brazil were chosen. Quantitative data were subjected to the Kruskal-Wallis test, and treatment means separated by the Dunn test (P ≤ 0.05). Using MAXQDA software, qualitative information was analyzed using a content analysis technique. Three stakeholders were deemed weakly dependent on NPOs, and another seven highly dependent and critical to an understanding of stakeholder-NPO interactions. The characteristics and particularities found in the organizations that are part of the Third Sector provides the academy with a broad field of research for those addressing subjects related to financial sustainability and the appropriate use of resources. In this sense, the Strategic Cost Management (SCM) provides information and tools capable of assisting institutions in the efficient management of their costs and revenues, generating data on productivity, quality and other critical factors necessary for decision making, whether it is profit or non-profit company. Thus, analyzing the evolution and the characteristics of the scientific production of costs focused in this segment, which is the objective of our article. The methodology applied in the development of the following study was quantitative, descriptive and documentary. The academic production in the period from 2008 to 2017 was sought by consulting the databases of 40 national journals and four of the main events of accounting and costs, resulting in a sample of 25 articles. From the analysis of the results, we could observe that the theme of cost production applied to the Third Sector is still incipient and was mostly originated in the Brazilian Congress of Costs. Furthermore, we also identified that the publications in journals are inexpressive and that most of the studies focused on the survey and analysis of the institutions costs, and the identification of costing tools and practices. Purpose: To verify the change of rules and routines of management accounting of a third sector organization in the light of the Old Institutional Economy (OIE). Methodology: To analyze the institutional change in management accounting, documentary, descriptive and qualitative research was carried out. The research was carried out at a private educational foundation in Santa Catarina, selected for being a member of the third sector and for its accessibility. Data collection took place through interviews and documents, between the months of September 2018 and February 2019. For data analysis, qualitative content analysis was used. Results: In the institutional approach, the change in management accounting for the Foundation was classified as formal, revolutionary and progressive. The institutionalization of management accounting rules and routines was promoted by the need for management to have more agile and secure tools to support decision making. The rules and routines of management accounting have been modified and / or abandoned, over time, with the reconfiguration of existing practices, for their innovation. The integration of the Foundation's systems based on the standardization and sharing of accounting and tax information has provided an improvement in the quality of information, better integration with the tax authorities and faster access to information, giving rise to more efficient, safe and useful management controls. Contributions of the Study: The research contributes to the accounting literature by presenting empirical evidence on the process of institutionalization of management accounting over time, in Brazilian third sector organizations, suggesting new studies. As a practical contribution, there is the possibility of improving the management models of third sector organizations through the understanding of the dynamics used in the process of change in management accounting, by the agents involved. The Third Sector is assuming an ever greater role in various social spheres, in particular with an increasingly important role in the construction of welfare policies. In 2017 the Third Sector was reformed with a single text, regulating all types of organizations defined "Third Sector Entities (ETS)". It is possible to identify in the contents of the reform an attempt to link ETS and welfare, as well as between welfare policies and territorial imbalances. However, at the moment it seems that the ETS are not playing a decisive role of agents of change. Rethinking local social policies with an active role of the ETS and tracing new profiles is strategic for the future of the welfare state in Italy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Social innovation should represent a step forward activation policies, promoting a new balance between economic development and social cohesion, reducing inequalities and vulnerability. The Third sector is a privileged sphere of social innovation: there are many expectations on its ability to provide innovative answers to unaddressed social needs; one area of its intervention are youth policies. In Italy, the Third sector reform established new provisions on volunteering, civil service and social entrepreneurship, which should primarily benefit the youth. It allows to explore the double face of the Third sector transformation and of the European rhetoric on social innovation. On the one side institutions are trying to recognize emerging grass-root practices which combine social involvement, professional fulfillment and political action in order to respond new societal challenges. This paper examines the effects of austerity on anti-racist and community organizing. We focus on three key shifts: changes to public funding, the push to entrepreneurialism and the mainstreaming of Equalities legislation. The paper contributes to critical understandings of the changing relationship between civil society and the state and the challenges this creates for working against racism. We highlight how austerity acts as an alibi to further diminish race as a policy concern. Organizations and activists are encouraged to act as entrepreneurs and confront each other as competitors, rather than allies in a political struggle. This leads to a very real sense that solidarities are being deliberately ruptured in order to "divide and conquer" and diminish collective organizing capacity. We illustrate how this is compounded by the cumulative affective consequences of austerity measures, often at considerable costs in terms of a broader collective agenda. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Since the 2008 economic crisis, social service providers worldwide have reported funding cuts, while the need for some social services has been increasing. This paper examines the combined and longer-term effects of such divergent developments on the nonprofit social services sector. The empirical analysis uses Austrian administrative data on six subfields of the sector covering the years 2003–2017. We investigate significant changes in the trends of four growth indicators applying interrupted time series analysis. We find that the 2008 economic crisis is associated with persistently lower growth rates in Austria's nonprofit social services sector. The magnitude of this dampening effect differs across subsectors. Additionally, our findings suggest an increase in market concentration. Hence, the study discloses a long-term scarring effect of the economic crisis on Austria's social services sector, raising doubts on the sector's future resilience. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: The article discusses the basic differences and common features of foundations and registered associations of the NGO sector. The article analyses 8 categories concerning the characteristics of projects in foundations and registered associations in order to detect whether they differ significantly. Design/methodology/approach: A target group was surveyed. Findings: Based on the research, a description was compiled on the common features that were detected and differences between projects implemented in foundations and registered associations in NGO sector. Research limitations/implications: In the article, the author collates the results of her own research on the development of projects in the NGO sector of foundations and registered associations, having full awareness that research carried out on a targeted sample does not allow generalizing conclusions for entire populations, although it allows identifying regularities present in a given community in order to outline further research directions. The research was conducted as part of the pilot project of NGOs’ project management issues and is the starting point for conducting in-depth research in this area. Practical implications: In NGOs, authorities and managers should increase their competences in project management in NGOs and promote good practices and professionalization of project management in third-sector organizations. Social implications: The implementation of projects in foundations and registered associations is the basis of their functioning. Widespread research in this field allows increasing project awareness among NGO members. Originality/value: A comparative project analysis was carried out for two types of NGOs: foundations and registered associations. News reporting typically has a dual function: it mirrors what is going on in real life, but it also shapes how actors behave. Previous studies suggest that media presence, by way of shaping public and policy perceptions, influence how well nonprofits are able to raise funds and mobilize human resources. Yet, we are lacking insights into how the third sector is actually framed in the media, in particular with regard to innovation, which increasingly complements the more traditional functions of advocacy and service provision. To find out, we performed a longitudinal content analysis and an in-depth framing analysis on national and regional newspapers from nine European countries. The analyses demonstrate that third sector activities, especially those related to social innovation, are largely ignored. We find no systematic evidence that crises increase news attention to nonprofit activities. The third sector is becoming more newsworthy when it co-engages with government and business actors, but can benefit only little from this "positive glow". We suggest how research on these matters can be taken forward, with a specific focus on the agenda-setting theory of mass media, the strategic management of nonprofit organizations, and collaboration in the context of social innovation. Psychological intervention outcomes depend in part on the therapist who provides the intervention (a therapist effect). However, recent reviews suggest that therapist effects may vary as a function of the context in which care is provided and therefore should not be generalized beyond that context. This study statistically analysed therapist effect differences between care sectors delivering psychological interventions. The sample comprised routine clinical data from 26,814 patients (69% female; mean age 38) and 466 therapists in five care sectors: primary care, secondary care, university, voluntary, and workplace. Therapist effects were analysed using multilevel models and Markov chain Monte Carlo credible intervals. The therapist effect was significantly larger in primary care (8.4%) than in any other sector (1.1%–2.3%) except secondary care (4.1%), after controlling for explanatory baseline and process variables as well as accounting for differences between clinics. There were no other significant differences detected between care sectors. These findings support the hypothesis that differences in effectiveness between therapists vary depending on the context in which psychological treatment is provided. Differences in relative therapist impact can vary by a factor of 4–8 across treatment sectors.
