ddc:519 - Abstract
In this monograph, we investigate the long-time behavior of stochastic delay equations. Our approach is random dynamical systems, and we solve our equation in the rough path point of view. Namely, we deal with the singular case, i.e., when the delay terms also are appearing in the diffusion part. Although we can solve the equation using the classical tools of stochastic analysis, the main obstacle is the lack of flow property. More precisely, the solution does not depend continuously on the initial value. To solve this problem, we define this property differently. We will show how we can generate a flow property on fields of Banach spaces using rough path theory. As a consequence, we prove the cocycle property and establish a Wong-Zakai theorem. Since we use rough path theory, we can apply our results to the case where the noise consists of Brownian motions or fractional Brownian motions with 1/3 < H < 1/2. The main theorem in random dynamical systems is the celebrated multiplicative ergodic theorem (MET). Inspired by our framework, we prove a version of this theorem on fields of Banach spaces. Moreover, assuming the invertibility of the basis, we show Oseledets splitting. We then apply this theorem to stochastic linear delay equations and demonstrate linear delay equations possess a Lyapunov spectrum. This result is remarkable, as it provides a comprehensive explanation for the stability and chaotic behavior of the stochastic delay flows. The existence of invariant manifolds is an application of the MET. Using the MET, we prove this theorem for nonlinear cocycles acting on measurable fields of Banach spaces. In particular, we prove local stable and unstable manifold theorems for nonlinear, singular stochastic delay differential equations around the stationary points. This monograph also contains a separate chapter on the concept of the metric entropy for the stochastic flows, which are invariant in finitely many directions. Having defined the entropy for this class of flows, we prove Ruelle’s inequality accordingly. This inequality states that metric entropy is bounded by the sum of the positive Lyapunov exponents.

ddc:519 - Abstract
It is well-known that the components of the solution to a system of N interacting stochastic differential equations with an averaged sum of interaction terms and with independent identically distributed (chaotic) initial values, as N tends to infinity, converge to the solutions of Vlasov-McKean equations, in which the averaged sum is replaced by the expectation. Since the solutions to the corresponding Vlasov-McKean equations are independent, this phenomenon is called propagation of chaos. This thesis is about well-posedness of path-dependent stochastic differential equations, propagation of chaos for spatially structured neural network with delay and existence and uniqueness of weak solutions to Vlasov-McKean equations. In Chapter 2, existence and uniqueness of strong solution to path-dependent stochastic differential equations driven by martingale noise under local monotonicity and coercivity assumptions with controls with respect to supremum norm are obtained. Because the noise coefficient is not separately coercive and local monotone, using ordinary Gronwall lemma together with Burkholder-Davis-Gundy theorem is impossible. As a solution to this issue, following [42], a stochastic Gronwall lemma for càdlàg martingales is proved. This result is obtained in joint work with Michael Scheutzow. In Chapter 3, we consider spatially structured neural networks driven by martingale noise with monotone coefficients, fully path-dependent delay and with a disorder parameter. Well-posedness of the network equations is implied by the first result. Well-posedness for the associated Vlasov-McKean equation and a corresponding propagation of chaos result in the infinite population limit are proven. Our existence result for the Vlasov-McKean equation is based on the Euler approximation, that is applied to this type of equation for the first time. This result is obtained in joint work with Michael Scheutzow, Wilhelm Stannat, and Bijan Z. Zangeneh. In Chapter 4, we present a Lyapunov type approach to the problem of existence and uniqueness of general law-dependent stochastic differential equations. In the existing literature, most results concerning existence and uniqueness are obtained under regularity assumptions of the coefficients with respect to the Wasserstein distance. Some existence and uniqueness results for irregular coefficients have been obtained by considering the total variation distance. Here we extend this approach to the control of the solution in some weighted total variation distance, that allows us now to derive a rather general weak uniqueness result, merely assuming measurability and certain integrability on the drift coefficient and some non-degeneracy on the dispersion coefficient. We also present an abstract weak existence result for the solution of law-dependent stochastic differential equations with merely measurable coefficients, based on an approximation with law-dependent stochastic differential equations with regular coefficients under Lyapunov type assumptions. This result is obtained in joint work with Wilhelm Stannat.

ddc:510 - Abstract
Pesin's formula asserts that metric entropy of a dynamical system is equal to the sum of its positive Lyapunov exponents, where metric entropy measures the chaoticity of the system, whereas Lyapunov exponents measure the asymptotic exponential rate of separation of nearby trajectories. It is well known, that this formula holds for dynamical systems on a compact Riemannian manifold with an invariant probability measure. Translation invariant Brownian flows is a specific class of stochastic flows on Rd with independent and stationary increments and with a distribution, which is invariant with respect to translations in Rd. They have a Lyapunov spectrum but do not have an invariant probability measure. We represent translation invariant Brownian flows as random dynamical systems in the sense of (18) and {25}. Further, we define entropy for translation invariant (in distribution with respect to translations in Rd) random dynamical systems restricting the definition to the unit cube. It turns out that this definition makes sense because of the translation invariance of the systems. After that, we show that for translation invariant random dynamical systems the defined entropy is less then or equal to the sum of their positive Lyapunov exponents. Moreover, we establish Pesin's formula in the case when the system preserves the volume. This also implies the respective results for translation invariant Brownian flows. We also discuss an alternative approach to the definition of entropy. We define entropy for random dynamical systems with the fixed origin using ideas of Brin and Katok, see {9}. After that we prove Ruelle's inequality with respect to this definition, i.e. we bound from above the defined entropy by the sum of positive Lyapunov exponents of the systems. This implies the respective result for translation invariant random dynamical systems and translation invariant Brownian flows.

The present thesis investigates certain aspects of the interplay between the ergodic long time behavior and the smoothing property of dynamical systems generated by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with jumps, in particular SDEs driven by Lévy processes and the Marcus’ canonical equation. A variational approach to the Malliavin calculus generates an integration-by-parts formula that allows to transfer spatial variation to variation in the probability measure. The strong Feller property of the associated Markov semigroup and the existence of smooth transition densities are deduced from a non-standard ellipticity condition on a combination of the Gaussian and a jump covariance. Similar results on submanifolds are inferred from the ambient Euclidean space. These results are then applied to random dynamical systems generated by linear stochas- tic differential equations. Ruelle’s integrability condition translates into an integrability condition for the Lévy measure and ensures the validity of the multiplicative ergodic theo- rem (MET) of Oseledets. Hence the exponential growth rate is governed by the Lyapunov spectrum. Finally the top Lyapunov exponent is represented by a formula of Furstenberg– Khasminskii–type as an ergodic average of the infinitesimal growth rate over the unit sphere.

This thesis focuses on noise induced synchronization. Noise induced synchronization describes the stabilizing effect of noise on the long-time dynamics of a random dynamical system. While the attractor in the absence of noise is not a single point, the random attractor collapses to a single random point under the addition of noise. In the first part, we consider a system that is known to synchronize under additive noise and raise the question about the nature of the long-time behavior if one adds less noise. We prove that the occurrence of synchronization depends on the strength of noise and the number of directions in which the noise acts. The crucial quantity to obtain this change of behavior is the sign of the top Lyapunov exponent. We prove a transition from positive to negative top Lyapunov exponent as the noise increases. In case of a negative top Lyapunov exponent, we conclude synchronization and in case of a positive top Lyapunov exponent, we conclude lack of synchronization. In the second part, we analyze whether this relation between the sign of the top Lyapunov exponent and synchronization holds true in general. We give positive results based on classical results of Ruelle and provide simple examples showing a contrary behavior. In the third part, we estimate the time which is required to approach the attractor for a class of random dynamical systems that synchronize under noise. Since the long-time dynamics of the deterministic system are in contrast to the random system not globally stable, the time required to approach the attractor goes to infinity as the noise gets small. We differ between the time a point and set requires to approach the attractor and give the rates in which both times go to infinity. These rates differ significantly. In the fourth part, we investigate a more general property of random attractors. We analyze whether attractors which attract compact sets uniformly on a connected state space are connected. We prove connectedness of these attractors if compact sets get attracted almost surely using a pathwise argumentation. For random attractors attracting compact sets merely in probability we provide an example where the attractor is not connected., Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit vom Rauschen herbeigeführter Synchronisation.

ddc:519 - Abstract
The thesis consists of three independent parts: Part 1: Percolation. Chapter 1 is concerned with the topic of Lipschitz Percolation. Classic results are stated in Section 1.1 before moving on to the novel topic of Lipschtz percolation above tilted planes. Asymptotic bounds are derived for the critical probabilities involved, both for the dimension of the space going to infinity and the inclination of the plane going to 1. Part 2: Population Genetics. The core of Chapter 2 is a novel see-bank model designed in a similar framework as the combination of the classic Wright Fisher model and the Kingman coalescent. A brief introduction to these classic topics is given in Section 2.1, followed by a review of existing seed-bank models in Section 2.2. The Wright Fisher model with geometric seed-bank is then introduced in Section 2.3. We derive a forward scaling limit of the frequency process and define its dual block-counting process. This duality is then applied to characterize the long-term behaviour of the frequency diffusion. Section 2.4 identifies the coalescent structure corresponding to the block-counting process above. Section 2.5 is devoted to the properties of this seed-bank coalescent. We prove that it does not come down from infinity, find bounds on the time to the most recent common ancestor and derive recursions suited for numerical simulations. Part 3: Random Dynamical Systems. This part is made up of two chapters. Chapter 3 first introduces the notion of quadratic stochastic Volterra operators to then generalize this concept to polynomial stochastic Volterra operators. In Section 3.3 we consider an i.i.d. iteration of said polynomial stochastic operators. The main result of this chapter is the almost sure convergence of these random trajectories. Chapter 4 embedds this process in the set-up of random dynamical systems. Section 4.2 is concerned with the evolution forward in time of this random dynamical system (RDS). In particular, we identify the strong minimal forward point attractor. Section 4.3 analyzes the system going backward in time. We prove not only the existence of a strong global pullback attractor, but also, that this attractor is a singleton, i.e. that synchronization occurs. Finally, we introduce a new concept of attractors, so-called Δ-attractors, in Section 4.4 and prove their existence in our RDS for small Δ>0.

ddc:519 - Abstract
Stochastic differential equations (SDEs) have been subject of extensive research ever since the foundation was laid by Kiyoshi Itô in his brilliant work from 1944. We investigate some relations between SDEs and their deterministic counterparts. The first is the stabilizing effect the noise can have on an explosive ordinary differential equation (ODE). Pioneer work was done by Scheutzow (1993), in which he provides an example in R2 of an ODE that explodes for all initial condition in finite time, while the corresponding SDE is non-explosive for each initial condition almost surely. He specifies and validates a Lyapunov function, whose existence implies the existence of an invariant probability measure. The same phenomenon was proven by Mattingly and Herzog (2015) for a different equation. We further investigate their example to show the existence of a random attractor, which is even stronger than the existence of an invariant measure. In Chapter 2 we prove explosion in finite time for the generated local stochastic flow, therefore a random attractor cannot exists in this case. Chapter 3 provides an explosive ODE that is stabilized by noise, in the sense that there exists a global weak set attractor. The special case, in which the equation is of gradient type, is treated in Chapter 4. A second relation is the convergence of the empirical measure of an interacting particle system towards a partial differential equation (PDE). Such a law of large numbers for empirical measures have been shown in various papers, we were particularly inspired by the ones of Oelschläger (1985) and (1989). In Chapter 5 we show such a macroscopic limit result for a particle system, in which particles interact through an SDE describing their motion and through their branching rates. The long range interaction in the spatial component leads to a non-local term in the limiting PDE. The proof follows the standard approach but uses tightness for the mollified empirical measure. Finally, in Chapter 6, we derive the Fisher-Kolmogorov-Petrowskii-Piskunov (FKPP) equation, i.e. ∂t u = ∆u + u(1 − u), from a system of proliferating Brownian particles. We use a semigroup approach with is new in this framework and leads to uniform convergence and a more general assumption on the interaction range.

We provide sufficient conditions for weak synchronization by noise for order-preserving random dynamical systems on Polish spaces. That is, under these conditions we prove the existence of a weak point attractor consisting of a single random point. This generalizes previous results in two directions: First, we do not restrict to Banach spaces and second, we do not require the partial order to be admissible nor normal. As a second main result and application we prove weak synchronization by noise for stochastic porous media equations with additive noise., Comment: 25 pages

We provide sufficient conditions for synchronization by noise, i.e. under these conditions we prove that weak random attractors for random dynamical systems consist of single random points. In the case of SDE with additive noise, these conditions are also essentially necessary. In addition, we provide sufficient conditions for the existence of a minimal weak point random attractor consisting of a single random point. As a result, synchronization by noise is proven for a large class of SDE with additive noise. In particular, we prove that the random attractor for an SDE with drift given by a (multidimensional) double-well potential and additive noise consists of a single random point. All examples treated in [Tearne, PTRF; 2008] are also included., 45 pages

Large claim size distributions play an important role in many areas of probability theory and related fields - in particular insurance and finance. They often describe extreme events and are typically heavy-tailed. In this work, we introduce and investigate new large claim distribution classes. The approach of the definition of our classes is based on the catastrophe principle. This principle states that a surprisingly large sum of a fixed number of contributors is dominated by just one contributor. This principle is often used in connection with extreme events and some established distribution classes in the literature contain distributions which obey this principle. However, the definitions of these classes may be too restrictive and there is no established distribution class which is solely defined to describe the catastrophe principle. Our approach to define a new distribution class is trying to fill this gap. The aim of this dissertation is to derive the structure, the classification and properties of our new distribution classes.

ddc:510 - Abstract
It has been suggested that stochastic flows are used to model the spread of passive tracers in a turbulent fluid. One might think of the evolution in time of an oil spill on the surface of the ocean. Mathematically stochastic flows can be seen as solutions of certain stochastic differential equations which depend continuously on the initial value. In this thesis we are interested in the analysis of the chaotic behaviour of these objects. From Scheutzow and Steinsaltz (2002) it is known that for a broad class of stochastic flows a non-trivial bounded connected set expands linearly in time if it does not collapse. Nevertheless, upper and lower bounds for the linear growth turn out to be far from each other in some examples. A special class of stochastic flows are isotropic Brownian flows. These flows are a fairly natural class of stochastic flows and have been first introduced by Ito (1956) and Yaglom (1957). For this class of stochastic flows the image of a single point is a Brownian motion, and the covariance tensor between two different Brownian motions is an isotropic function of their positions. For planar isotropic Brownian flows with a strictly positive top-Lyapunov exponent van Bargen (2010) determined the precise linear growth rate following an idea of Dolgopyat, Kaloshin, and Koralov (2004). The first main result of this thesis extends this result to an asymptotic support thoerem for planar isotropic Brownian flows: We will show that the set of linearly time-scaled trajectories starting in a non-trivial compact connected set is asymptotically close (in the Hausdorff distance) to the set of Lipschitz continuous functions, where the Lipschitz constant is the linear growth rate mentioned above. The second main result of this thesis shows a relation between entropy of a stochastic flow and its positive Lyapunov exponents. Here, we use the notion of metric entropy introduced by Kolmogorov (1958) and Sinai (1959), which is a purely-measure theoretic way of measuring the chaotic behaviour of some evolution process. Whereas a more geometric way is given by the asymptotic exponential rate of separation of nearby trajectories. These rates of divergence are called the Lyapunov exponents of the flow. The formula relating these two objects is known as Pesin's formula and was first established by Pesin in the late 1970s for so-called deterministic dynamical systems acting on a compact Riemannian manifold. Certain stochastic flows can be seen as so-called random dynamical systems, which we will introduce in detail later. For these random dynamical systems on a compact state space Pesin's formula has been proved by Ledrappier and Young (1988) and Liu and Qian (1995). In this thesis we will show that Pesin's formula holds true even for random dynamical systems on the non-compact state space R^d. By this we will finally show that a broad class of stochastic flows on R^d satisfies Pesin's formula. In order to prove Pesin's formula for random dynamical systems on R^d we need the so-called absolute continuity theorem of local stable manifolds. These manifolds correspond to the different Lyapunov exponents and consist of those points in space whose trajectories converge to each other exponentially at least with the rate given by the Lyapunov exponent. The main consequence of the absolute continuity theorem is that the Lebesgue measure conditioned on the family of local stable manifolds and the induced Lebesgue measure on these local stable manifolds are absolutely continuous (in fact, even equivalent). Roughly speaking, this means that the local stable manifolds form a proper partition of the state space. This theorem was proved in detail for deterministic dynamical systems on a Riemannian manifold in Katok and Strelcyn (1986). The third main result of this thesis is to extend the result from Katok and Strelcyn (1986) to random dynamical systems on R^d.

ddc:510 - Abstract
Path properties of Brownian motion is an important and well studied area of probability theory. In this thesis we want to investigate what happens to path properties of linear Brownian motion if we add a drift function. The path properties we are interested in are the following in this thesis. It is a well known fact that standard one-dimensional Brownian motion B(t) has no isolated zeros almost surely. In chapter II we will address the question whether one can get isolated zeros by adding a function to Brownian motion. In particular, we will show that for any alpha < 1/2 there are alpha-Hölder continuous functions f for which the process B-f has isolated zeros with positive probability. En route we will see that the Cantor function added to one-dimensional Brownian motion has zeros in the middle alpha-Cantor set with positive probability if and only if alpha unequals 1/2. Besides Cantor functions we also take a look at another class of functions that can provide isolated zeros when added to Brownian motion. Motivated by the results of chapter II we take an even closer look at middle 1/2-Cantor functions in chapter III. We will define a generalized class of Cantor functions by allowing the middle 1/2 intervals to vary in size around the value 1/2 at each iteration step. That way we can give a refined picture of the result above. We will see that there is a class of generalized Cantor functions such that if these are added to one-dimensional Brownian motion, there are no zeros that lie in the corresponding Cantor set almost surely. In chapter IV we prove that for any continuous function f, the zero set of B-f has Hausdorff dimension at least 1/2 with positive probability, and 1/2 is an upper bound on the Hausdorff dimension if f is 1/2-Hölder continuous or of bounded variation. A famous result of Orey and Taylor gives the Hausdorff dimension of the set of fast times, that is the set of points where linear Brownian motion moves faster than according to the law of iterated logarithm. In chapter V we examine what happens to the set of fast times if a variable drift is added to linear Brownian motion. In particular, we will show that the Hausdorff dimension of the set of fast times cannot be decreased by adding a function to Brownian motion. Furthermore, we will look at the intersection of the set of fast times and the zero set. Chapters II and IV are joint work with Tonci Antunovic, Kris Burdzy and Yuval Peres.

The parabolic Anderson problem is the Cauchy problem for the heat equation with random potential and localized initial condition. In this paper, we consider potentials which are constant in time and independent exponentially distributed in space. We study the growth rate of the total mass of the solution in terms of weak and almost sure limit theorems, and the spatial spread of the mass in terms of a scaling limit theorem. The latter result shows that in this case, just like in the case of heavy tailed potentials, the mass gets trapped in a single relevant island with high probability.

ddc:510 - Abstract
The present work treats several asymptotic properties of stochastic flows on the Euclidean space, whose distributions are frequently assumed to be invariant under rotations of the state space. These stochastic flows include the isotropic Brownian flows, which have been studied since Yaglom (1957) or Baxendale, Harris and Le Jan (1980s). Furthermore isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Flows are treated, which are considered since Dimitroff (2006) as well as repulsive isotropic flows, which are about to be introduced in this work. All these classes of stochastic flows are linked by a single stochastic differential equation which passes to one of the named cases by the specification of one real parameter. First we define the classes of models and cite important facts from the literature. Afterwards the spatial asymptotic behaviour of isotropic stochastic flows is treated in a short warm up chapter. A lemma is proved that serves to show that the unit ball based random dynamical system coming from an isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flow is not sufficiently smooth to apply well known results concerning Pesin's formula from Ledrappier and Young (1980s) and hence to motivate the self contained study of this subject. Another short chapter is concerned with the following question. When does the finite-point motion of a given stochastic flow admit a continuous (or even smooth) density which is strictly positive apart from the generalized diagonal? It is also shown that a large subclass of the isotropic flows belongs to the scope of the obtained results. The following first main chapter treats the asymptotic behaviour of the shape of the set of points in the plane that has been visited up to some time. It is shown in the case of a planar isotropic Brownian flow that this shape is deteministic in probability. Dolgopyat, Kaloshin and Koralov give a similar result in a different setting (2004). But since the core of their proof - the spatial periodicity of their model - fails to hold for all isotropic flows it has to be replaced by a different feature of the isotropic Brownian flows namely their invariance properties w.r.t. time reversion. The so-called Margulis-Ruelle inequality asserts that the entropy of a random dynamical system can be estimated from above through the sum of its positive Lyapunov exponents. This inequality is extended to the case of a random dynamical system coming from an isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flow. The last two main chapters are devoted to the asymptotic expansion of the spatial derivative of a stochastic flow taking the supremum over a compact set of initial points in space. It is shown that this expansion is at most exponentially fast in time and a deterministic bound on the expansion speed is obtained. This result can be seen as a first step towards Pesin's formula for isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flows. First the case of first order derivatives of an isotropic flow is treated and afterwards the result is generalized - with worse constants - to a much more general class of stochastic flows and derivatives of arbitrary order. Finally some open questions are listed and possible directions of further research are discussed.

In this thesis, we study the asymptotic behavior of exit and transition times of certain weakly time inhomogeneous diffusion processes. Based on these asymptotics, a probabilistic notion of stochastic resonance (SR) is investigated. Large deviations techniques play the key role throughout this work. In the first part (Chapters 1-3) we recall the large deviations theory for time homogeneous diffusions. We present the classical results due to Freidlin and Wentzell and extensions thereof, and we remind of Kramers'' exit time law. Part II deals with the phenomenon of stochastic resonance. That is, we study periodicity properties of diffusion processes. In Chapter 4 we explain the paradigm of stochastic resonance and discuss physical notions of measuring periodicity of diffusions. Their drawbacks suggest to follow an alternative probabilistic approach, which is treated in this work. In Chapter 5 we derive a large deviations principle for diffusions subject to a weakly time dependent periodic drift term. The uniformity of the obtained large deviations bounds w.r.t. the system''s parameters plays a key role for the treatment of transition time asymptotics in Chapter 6, which contains the main result of the second part. The exact exponential transition rates obtained here allow for maximizing transition probabilities, which finally leads to the announced probabilistic notion of resonance studied in Chapter 7. In the third part we investigate the exit time asymptotics of a certain class of so-called self-stabilizing diffusions. In Chapter 8 we explain the connection between interacting particle systems and self-stabilizing diffusions, and we address the question of existence. The following Chapter 9 is devoted to the study of the large deviations behavior of these diffusions. In Chapter 10 Kramers'' exit law is carried over to our class of self-stabilizing diffusions. Finally, the influence of self-stabilization is illustrated in Chapter 11.

The thesis "High resolution coding of point processes and the Boolean model" is a contribution to the field of coding theory, with a special focus on the problem of quantization, entropy constrained coding and random coding. We provide an asymptotic upper bound for the quantization error of point processes on bounded metric spaces with finite upper Minkowski-dimension. Therefore we consider the point process conditioned upon the number of points and construct specific code- books for these conditional processes. Via the cardinality of these codebooks we get a relation between the quantization error and the given rate. As a special case, we establish upper and lower bounds for the quantization error asymptotics of a stationary Poisson point process on a compact subset of R^d under Hausdorff-distance. For the lower bound we use the relation between the quantization error and the so called small ball probabilities. Furthermore we compute an asymptotic upper bound of the entropy constrained error and compare the results with the Gaussian case. In the case of one dimension we introduce a D([0,a],{w1,...,wq})-valued random element induced by a point process on the compact interval [0,a] satisfying a certain growth condition and provide an asymptotic upper bound of the quan- tization error under L1-distance. For a D([0,1],{0,1})-valued random element induced by a stationary Poisson point process on [0,1] we give asymptotic upper and lower bounds of the quantization error and compare these to the asymptotics of the random coding error and the entropy constrained error. We further discuss the Boolean model, where a random set is constructed as the Minkowski sum of the points of a Poisson point process and a given random set, e.g. a ball with random radius. For an asymptotic upper bound of the quantiza- tion error under Hausdorff-distance we consider the corresponding Poisson point process conditioned upon the number of points in a compact set. We use one part of the given rate to code the number and the position of these points and the rest of the rate to code the random compact sets. For the lower bound we use again the relation between the quantization error and the small ball probabilities. Therewith we provide asymptotic upper and lower bounds for the quantization error under Hausdorff-distance and compare these with the asymptotics of the quantization error of the Boolean model under the L1-distance.

ddc:510 - Abstract
In this thesis we study some macroscopic properties of isotropic Brownian flows (IBF) and isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flows (IOUF) in $ \R^d $ with $ d\ge2 $. \\ IBFs were studied extensively by Baxendale and Harris and independently by Le Jan. They are a very natural family of stochastic flows with independent and stationary increments and with a distribution, which is invariant with respect to spatial rigid motions on $ \R^d $. First we consider the asymptotics of the evolution of a smooth rectifiable curve under the action of an IBF. We provide almost sure lower and upper exponential bounds for the length of the curve and show that in case the top Lyapunov exponent is strictly negative the lower bound is attained with positive probability. In the case of a positive Lyapunov exponent we do not know if these bounds are attained, however we give a sufficient condition concerning the uniformity of the spatial spreading'' of the curve, under which the upper bound is attained a.s.. This might help the further research on the problem. \\ Further we consider the evolution of the volume of a set under the action of an IBF. This problem has also been studied by Le Jan, Darling and Kunita. Le Jan and Darling proved that in the case of a strictly negative top Lyapunov exponent the volume of a bounded set vanishes almost surely with time (even if its diameter grows). Le Jan has also shown that in the case of a positive Lyapunov exponent the volume does not vanish asymptotically with strictly positive probability. We show that if the IBF is near to the volume preserving case then the volume of an open set does persist (i.e.~does not converge to zero) almost surely. We also study the spatial distribution of the volume of an open set moved by the flow and prove that on a large scale there is a certain kind of asymptotic normality. Another question we consider is if an IBF with strictly positive probability uniformly shrinks a ball. Clearly this is not possible in the volume preserving case. We give an affirmative answer to this question under a certain nondegeneracy'' condition on the potential measure associated to the flow. \\ Unfortunately IBFs viewed as random dynamical systems do not have finite invariant measure and therefore many results and tools from ergodic theory do not apply to IBFs. This motivates the study of IBFs with drift ensuring the existence of an invariant probability measure, however some of the rich structure of the IBF is being lost. Nevertheless, in case this drift is linear, the flows we obtain inherit most of the properties from the IBFs without drift, e.g. the distance process is a diffusion. %and has the advantage of an invariant probability measure. We call them isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flows (IOUF). One of the central notions in the random dynamical systems theory is the notion of an attractor. We show that the isotropic Ornstein-Uhlenbeck flows have a global weak set attractor. Further we consider the statistical equilibrium of an IOUF. Exploiting the fact that IOUFs do have an invariant measure, we apply the results of Ledrappier and Young to show that the statistical equilibrium has a.s.~constant pointwise dimension almost everywhere and give a formula for this dimension.

This thesis is concerned with the high resolution coding problem for Gaussian measures on Banach spaces. New relations between the asymptotics of small ball probabilities and the latter problem are derived. In the case where the underlying space is even a Hilbert space, the problem is solved explicitly under weak assumptions on the eigenvalues of the covariance operator.

Weitere Resultate von allgemeinem Interessen beziehen sich auf die Mischungseigenschaft der stationären Lösung, eine Fallstudie zu exponentiellen Gewichtsfunktionen sowie der Approximation des stationären Prozesses durch autoregressive Prozesse in diskreter Zeit., Let (X(t), t>= -r) be a stationary stochastic process solving the affine stochastic delay differential equation dX(t)=L(X(t+s))dt+sigma dW(t), t>= 0, with sigma>0, (W(t), t>=0) a standard one-dimensional Brownian motion and with a continuous linear functional L on the space of continuous functions on [-r,0], represented by a finite signed measure a. Assume that a trajectory (X(t), -r 0. This rate is worse than those obtained in many classical cases. However, we prove a lower bound, stating that no estimator can attain a better rate of convergence in a minimax sense. For discrete time observations of maximal distance Delta, the Galerkin estimator still attains the above asymptotic rate if Delta is roughly of order T^(-1/2). In contrast, we prove that for observation intervals Delta, with Delta independent of T, the rate must deteriorate significantly by providing the rate estimate T^(-s/(2s+6)) from below. Furthermore, we construct an adaptive estimator by applying wavelet thresholding techniques to the corresponding ill-posed inverse problem. This nonlinear estimator attains the above minimax rate even for more general classes of Besov spaces B^s_(p,infinity) with p>max(6/(2s+3),1). The restriction p >= 6/(2s+3) is shown to hold for any estimator, hence to be inherently associated with the estimation problem. Finally, a hypothesis test with a nonparametric alternative is constructed that could for instance serve to decide whether a trajectory has been generated by a stationary process with or without time delay. The test works for an L^2-separation rate between hypothesis and alternative of order T^(-s/(2s+2.5)). This rate is again shown to be optimal among all conceivable tests. For the proofs, the parameter dependence of the stationary solutions has to be studied in detail and the mapping properties of the associated covariance operators have to be determined exactly. Other results of general interest concern the mixing properties of the stationary solution, a case study for exponential weight functions and the approximation of the stationary process by discrete time autoregressive processes.

ddc:510 - Abstract
Let $gamma$ be a Gaussian measure on the Borel $sigma$-algebra $mathcal B$ of the separable Banach space $B$. Let $X:Omega o B$ with $P_X=gamma$. We investigate the average error in coding $gamma$ resp. $X$ with $Ninmathbb N$ points and obtain lower and upper bounds for the error asymptotics ($N oinfty$). We consider, given $r>0$, fidelity criterions as follows: Deterministic Coding $delta_2(N,r) := inf_{y_1,ldots,y_Nin B}Emin_{k=1,ldots,N} X-y_k ^r.$ Random Coding $delta_3(N,r) := inf_ u Emin_{k=1,ldots,N} X-Y_k ^r.$ The $(Y_k)$ above are i.i.d., independent of $X$, and distributed according to $ u$. The infimum is taken with respect to all probability measures $ u$. For the fidelity criterion $delta_4(cdot,r)$, starting from the definition of $delta_3(cdot,r)$, $ u$ is not chosen optimal, but as $ u=gamma$. The fidelity criterion $delta_1(cdot,r)$ is given according to the source coding theory of Shannon. The fidelity criterions are connected through $delta_1(cdot,r) le delta_2(cdot,r) le delta_3(cdot,r) le delta_4(cdot,r).$ We obtain the following connection between the asymptotics of $delta_4(cdot,r)$ and the den logarithmic small deviations of $gamma$: Let $kappa,a>0$ and $binR$ with $psi(varepsilon) := -log P{ X 1$.

For continuous time random dynamical systems there exist two important classes of generators: on the one hand stationary random differential quations, i.e. ordinary differential equations driven by a stationary random vector field, and on the other hand stochastic Stratonovich differential equations with white noise. While the first class fits well into the framework of the theory of random dynamical systems, the second class resisted for a long time the dynamical investigation due to the "conflict between ergodic theory and stochastic analysis". The main result of this thesis is that both classes of random dynamical systems are not essentially distinct, more precisely: For each stochastic Stratonovich differential equation with white noise (under usual regularity assumptions) there exists a stationary random differential equation such that the corresponding random dynamical systems are conjugate. As an application a version of the local Hartman/Grobman theorem for stochastic differential equations is proved.

ddc:510 - Abstract
Let A=(A_i)_{i in N_0} be a stationary stochastic process in GL(d,R), where GL(d,R) denotes the set of invertible d times d matrices with real entries. Over the past decades an extensive theory has been developed on the asymptotic behaviour of sequences of the form label{abstreq1} (1/n ln A_n....A_0 )_{n in N} and label{abstreq2} (1/n ln A_n...A_0 x )_{n in N} with x a vector in R^d. A lot of material is available on conditions ensuring the existence of almost sure limits as well as characterisations of these limits in case of existence. Along these lines, statements of the type of the central limit theorem in classical probability theory have been proved. Satisfactory answers have been given to these questions amongst others by Furstenberg and Kifer, Oseledec and Tutubalin. The first two authors characterise the almost sure asymptotic behaviour of sequences {abstreq1} and {abstreq2} giving exponential growth rates'' which the limit of {abstreq1} or {abstreq2} may exhibit under appropriate conditions. In the case of {abstreq2}, filtrations of R^d are given which characterise the values the limit takes. Following Tutubalin, Bougerol and Lacroix show that under appropriate conditions on the distribution of the elements of the sequence $A:=(A_i)_{i in N_0}, analogues of the central limit theorem in classical probability theory hold for the sequence A_n...A_0x $. We wish to show that under appropriate conditions, similar statements will hold for products of affine transformations''. We show that without > additional assumptions, versions of the theorem of Furstenberg and Kifer as well as Oseledec's theorem on the almost sure asymptotic behaviour of sequences {abstreq2} remain valid with the vectors x in R^d replaced by matrices $V in M(d,m,R) for any m in N. This will be the key observation which paves our way to descriptions of the almost sure asymptotic behaviour of sequences of the form {abstracteq1} ({1/n}ln sum_{k=0}^n A_n....A_{n-k+1} B_{n-k+1}C_{n-k}...C_1V )_{n in N}, where the sequences of random matrices A:=(A_i)_{i in N_0},B:=(B_i)_{i in N_0} and C:=(C_i)_{i in N_0} are such that the operations of multiplication and addition involved can be carried out and V is a deterministic matrix for which the multiplication involved is feasible. The success of the construction of the filtration in this case will rely on irreducibility requirements of certain probability measures. We also consider the case where the irreducibility condition fails and give sufficient conditions for the existence of the almost sure limit in special cases. Our discussions so far are restricted to the case where we consider i.i.d. sequences of random matrices. But we also discuss the situation which arises when the random matrices involved are not independent. We prove central limit theorems for {abstracteq1} under the assumption that (A_i)_{i in N_0} is a random sequence in R or (C_i)_{i in N} is a
