310. Alíquota justa e de equilíbrio para benefícios não programados em planos de contribuição definida.

Abstract

O objetivo deste estudo é propor uma metodologia que, utilizando múltiplos decrementos, além de desagregada por perfil atuarial e fonte de custo previdenciário, calcula alíquotas atuarialmente justas e de equilíbrio para benefícios não programados de custeio coletivo oriundos de planos de previdência da modalidade Contribuição Definida (CD). Não há trabalhos no Brasil que estudem alíquotas de custeio para benefícios não programados em planos de previdência da modalidade CD. Qualquer instituição que paga benefícios previdenciários de custeio coletivo precisa determinar uma alíquota atuarial que não seja insuficiente, gerando desequilíbrio financeiro ao fundo, e nem excessiva, comprometendo a renda do participante. Este trabalho é o primeiro estudo sobre alíquotas de custeio para benefícios de custeio coletivo oriundos de planos de previdência com modalidades CD. As alíquotas atuarialmente justas são obtidas considerando múltiplos decrementos e equalizando o valor presente das contribuições e o valor presente dos benefícios de pensão e aposentadoria por invalidez, desagregados por perfil atuarial e fonte de custo previdenciário. A alíquota de equilíbrio específica é determinada para cada fonte de custo previdenciário e é obtida considerando as alíquotas atuarialmente justas de cada perfil atuarial. A alíquota de equilíbrio geral é obtida pela contribuição marginal de cada alíquota de equilíbrio específica. A metodologia proposta foi utilizada para calcular as alíquotas dos benefícios não programados que possuem custeio coletivo em planos de modalidade de CD. Por meio da metodologia proposta, estimou-se que as mudanças legais, decorrentes da Emenda Constitucional 103/2019, aumentaram, indiretamente, em mais de 4% a alíquota de equilíbrio geral dos benefícios não programados da Fundação de Previdência Complementar do Servidor Público Federal do Poder Executivo (FUNPRESP-Exe). 311. From retrospective to prospective memory research: a framework for investigating the deactivation of intentions.

Abstract

The definition of episodic memory has evolved into a multifaceted concept that gathered great attention in several research areas in psychology and neuroscience. Prospective memory (PM), or the ability to remember to perform delayed intentions at a later moment in the future, represents one side of this capacity for which that has been a growing interest. In this review, we examined a counterintuitive finding: PM intentions may persist and affect our behaviour despite successful goal attainment and task completion, which in daily life may be as serious as taking medication twice. This review aims to elucidate the existing knowledge and identify some unresolved questions concerning this specific memory failure. Therefore, this review provides an overview of the uprising research dedicated to both PM omission and commission errors, including an analysis of its definitions, of the current theoretical approaches of PM retrieval, and the main procedures used in this field to offer an integrative perspective on this topic. Finally, the last section is devoted to discussing future directions to test the predictions of our suggested theoretical explanations for PM deactivation. Abstract

Cerro Macareno es un tell protohistórico situado junto a un antiguo brazo navegable del Guadalquivir, aguas arriba de Sevilla. Se conoce principalmente por las excavaciones de salvamento llevadas a cabo en los años setenta, debido a la destrucción a la que estaba sometido por la explotación de una cantera de áridos. Estos trabajos sacaron a la luz un área industrial de inicios de la II Edad del Hierro y permitieron definir la secuencia de ocupación del antiguo asentamiento, que arranca en torno al siglo VIII a. C. y finaliza en los primeros compases de la romanización, a finales del siglo II a. C. Cuarenta años después de las últimas excavaciones, la Universidad de Sevilla ha retomado en el año 2017 el estudio de este singular yacimiento a través de un proyecto de investigación. Se ha puesto especial énfasis en las etapas de transición, entre ellas la fase romano-republicana, uno de los momentos peor conocidos en la región desde el punto de vista arqueológico. Por lo que respecta a esta última, la campaña de excavaciones realizada en 2018 permitió documentar niveles amplios y relativamente poco alterados a escasa profundidad, lo que brindaba la oportunidad de estudiar en extensión contextos domésticos en un momento en el que la cultura turdetana se encontraba en pleno proceso de transformación de las estructuras socioeconómicas y de las formas de vida, antes de los grandes cambios que se producirán durante siglo I a. C., Cerro Macareno is a protohistoric tell located next to an ancient navigable branch of the Guadalquivir, upstream from Seville. It is mainly known from the salvage excavations carried out in the 1970s, due to the destruction to which it was subjected by the exploitation of an aggregate quarry. These works brought to light an industrial area dating from the beginning of the 2nd Iron Age and made it possible to define the sequence of occupation of the ancient settlement, which began around the 8th century BC and ended in the early stages of Romanisation, at the end of the 2nd century BC. Forty years after the last excavations, in 2017 the University of Seville has resumed the study of this unique site through a research project. Special emphasis has been placed on the transitional stages, including the Roman-Republican phase, one of the worst-known periods in the region from an archaeological point of view. With regard to the latter, the excavation campaign carried out in 2018 allowed to document extensive and relatively undisturbed levels at shallow depths, which provided the opportunity to study domestic contexts at a time when the Turdetanian culture was in the midst of a process of transformation of socio-economic structures and ways of life, prior to the major changes that would take place during the 1st century BC. more...

313. Word frequency effects on judgments of learning: More than just beliefs.

Abstract

Judgments of learning (JOLs) are usually higher for high-frequency words than for low-frequency words, which has been attributed to beliefs about how word frequency affects memory. The main goal of the present study was to explore if identifying word frequency as a relevant cue is necessary for it to affect JOLs. The idea is that for one to base judgments in beliefs of how a variable affects memory, one must first consider that variable. In Experiments 1 and 2, participants studied a list of high- and low-frequency words, made immediate JOLs, and answered questions aimed at identifying the cues used to make those JOLs. The results showed that identifying word frequency as a cue was not necessary for effects on JOLs to occur, suggesting that some participants could not have used beliefs about how word frequency affects memory when making JOLs. In Experiment 3, we measured processing fluency of high- and low-frequency words through a lexical decision task. Participants identified high-frequency words quicker than low-frequency words, suggesting the former to be more fluently processed. In Experiment 4, we explored if response times in a lexical decision task mediated the effect of word frequency on JOLs. Results showed a significant mediation of 8-13%, depending on the analysis technique. We argue that theory-driven processes do not fully account for word frequency effects on JOLs. 314. Determination of Sex Based on the Morphometric Evaluation of the Proximal Tibia

Abstract

SUMMARY: Anatomic differences are found between human males and females. These characteristics of sexual dimorphism vary across populations and have important implications for the study of human evolution. Researchers have employed anthropological tools for the characterization of human cadavers in different states of decomposition using complete skeletons, isolated bones or even bone fragments. The aim of the present study was to differentiate males and females based on morphometric aspects of human tibias from the Brazilian population. Sixty pairs of adult human tibias were obtained from bone collection of the Anatomy Sector of the Department of Animal Morphology and Physiology of the Rural Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. Ten measurements were made on the joint face of the tibial plateau: Anteroposterior diameter of the joint surface of the medial condyle (APM), Transverse diameter of the joint surface of the medial condyle (TM), Anteroposterior diameter of the joint surface of the lateral condyle (APL), Transverse diameter of the joint surface of the lateral condyle (TL), Anterior transverse measure of inter-condyle area (ATI), Posterior transverse measure of inter-condyle area (PTI), Middle transverse measure of inter-condyle area (MTI), Anteroposterior measure of inter-condyle area (API), Anterior measure of intercondyle area (AI) and Posterior measure of inter-condyle area (PI). The median morphometric values for the males’ proximal tibia were: APM - 4.707 ± 0.406; TM - 3.024 ± 0.307; APL -4.023 ± 0.414; TL - 3.405 ± 0.323; ATI - 3.365 ± 0.425; PTIc - 1.788 ± 0.307; MTI - 1.167 ± 0.279; API - 5.140 ± 0.377; AI - 2.865 ± 0.249 and PI - 2.297 ± 0.344. The median morphometric numbers for the female’s proximal tibia were: APM - 4.334 ± 0.317; TM - 2.702 ± 0.298; APL - 3.549 ± 0.382; TL - 2.991 ± 0.281; ATI - 2.818 ± 0.307; PTI - 1.555 ± 0.222; MTI - 1.054 ± 0.262; API - 4.596 ± 0.303; AI - 2.565 ± 0.21; PI - 2.031 ± 0.225. All parameters measured showed values significantly higher (p < 0.05) for the male’s proximal tibia. The findings demonstrate sexual dimorphism in this leg bone, which can be used with considerable reliability for scientific and forensic purposes. The results of these studies can be useful in cases where other methods are not applicable, increasing the range of options for forensic investigation. RESUMEN: Se encuentran diferencias anatómicas entre hombres y mujeres. Estas características del dimorfismo sexual varían entre las poblaciones y tienen implicaciones importantes para el estudio de la evolución humana. Los investigadores han empleado herramientas antropológicas para la caracterización de cadáveres humanos en diferentes estados de descomposición utilizando esqueletos completos, huesos aislados o incluso fragmentos óseos. El objetivo del presente estudio fue diferenciar a hombres y mujeres basándose en aspectos morfométricos de las tibias humanas de la población brasileña. Se obtuvieron sesenta pares de tibias adultas en la recolección ósea del Sector de Anatomía del Departamento de Morfología Animal y Fisiología de la Universidad Federal Rural de Pernambuco, Brasil. Abstract

In this paper a smart home controller proposal is formalized as a multi-objective integer linear programming problem that minimizes energy consumption and maximizes comfort. A comfort objective function is tested for several tariff scenarios including one with renewable sources as local off-grid micro-generation. The proposed model specifies best times to activate real household appliances based on energy consumption data, given load-limiting constraint and user preferences, by use of a weighted aggregation function. Este estudio requiere una metodología comparativa que puede llevar a una mejor comprensión de los procesos de formación de fronteras territoriales y simbólicas en el Bajo Guadiana entre Baesuris (Castro Marim) y Myrtilis (Mértola), The aim of this paper is to present some questions about the construction of boundaries in the particular case of the Low Guadiana Valley between the end of 3rd Century BC and the 1st Century AD, as well as the problems associated with the analysis of the classical texts (Polybius, Artemidorus, Strabo, Mela, Pliny the Elder, etc.), especially when they use the river as a territorial marker. The image transmitted by these sources does not have a clear reflection on the epigraphical and archaeological record: in this perspective, the data reveal the possible formation of multicultural realities which characterizes the frontier spaces, especially in oppida like Myrtilis. Abstract

Residential home automation is typically based on a Smart Home Controller (SHC) that controls the main loads and devices used in a home and helps reduce energy costs. This work presents a multi-objective approach to maximize energy savings and maximize comfort through a SHC with demand control in a variable rate system. The formalization of the problem was initially done through Integer Linear Programming (ILP), in which a weight aggregation function is presented for the two objectives under analysis, and finally a multiobjective meta-heuristic was implemented to treat the bi-objective, based Genetic Algorithm by means of the approximation of a Pareto frontier for automatic definition of the drive of the loads, thus offering the user options of choice, considering the criteria energy consumption and comfort. The differential of this proposal is the use of a new definition for objective function related to comfort, with the activation of loads with more than one daily operating cycle. The results of the algorithm used specify the best times to connect the loads (real household appliances) according to the constraint given by the contracted demand value and the user preferences. The efficacy of the proposed solution is demonstrated using the Weight Based Genetic Algorithm (WBGA) and Pareto Envelope-based Selection Algorithm II (PESA II) optimization techniques in a real smart home controller system in a mid-sized home. The results of the simulations demonstrated the generation of solutions that can reach an economy of more than 51% and comfort of over 96%, compared to the initial user preferences, giving the possibility of choosing the solution that best suits your needs. A automação residencial normalmente é baseada em um Controlador Residencial Inteligente (Smart Home Controller - SHC) que realiza o controle das principais cargas e dispositivos utilizados em uma residência e propicia a redução dos gastos com energia. Este trabalho apresenta uma abordagem multiobjetivo para maximização da economia de energia e maximização do conforto através de um SHC com controle da demanda máxima, em um sistema de tarifas variáveis. A formalização do problema inicialmente foi feita por meio de Programação Linear Inteira em que é apresentada uma função de agregação de pesos para os dois objetivos em análise, e finalmente foi implementada uma meta-heurística multiobjetivo para tratar a natureza biobjetivo, baseada em um algoritmo genético, por meio da aproximação de uma fronteira de Pareto para definição automática do acionamento das cargas, oferecendo ao usuário opções de escolha, considerando os critérios consumo energético e conforto. O diferencial desta proposta é a utilização de uma nova definição para função objetivo relativa ao conforto, com acionamento das cargas com mais de um ciclo de funcionamento diário. Os resultados do algoritmo utilizado, especificam os melhores horários para ligar as cargas (eletrodomésticos reais) de acordo com a restrição dada pelo valor de demanda contratada e das preferências do usuário. A eficácia da solução proposta é demonstrada por meio das técnicas de otimização Weight Based Genetic Algorithm (WBGA) e Pareto Envelope-based Selection Algorithm II (PESA II) em um sistema de um controlador de residência inteligente real em uma casa de porte médio. Os resultados das simulações demonstraram a geração de soluções que podem chegar a uma economia superior a 51% e conforto superior a 96%, se comparados com as preferências iniciais do usuário, conferindo a possibilidade de escolha da solução que seja mais adequada às suas necessidades. more...

325. Geographically Weighted Logistic Regression Applied to Credit Scoring Models

Abstract

This study used real data from a Brazilian financial institution on transactions involving Consumer Direct Credit (CDC), granted to clients residing in the Distrito Federal (DF), to construct credit scoring models via Logistic Regression and Geographically Weighted Logistic Regression (GWLR) techniques. The aims were: to verify whether the factors that influence credit risk differ according to the borrower’s geographic location; to compare the set of models estimated via GWLR with the global model estimated via Logistic Regression, in terms of predictive power and financial losses for the institution; and to verify the viability of using the GWLR technique to develop credit scoring models. The metrics used to compare the models developed via the two techniques were the AICc informational criterion, the accuracy of the models, the percentage of false positives, the sum of the value of false positive debt, and the expected monetary value of portfolio default compared with the monetary value of defaults observed. The models estimated for each region in the DF were distinct in their variables and coefficients (parameters), with it being concluded that credit risk was influenced differently in each region in the study. The Logistic Regression and GWLR methodologies presented very close results, in terms of predictive power and financial losses for the institution, and the study demonstrated viability in using the GWLR technique to develop credit scoring models for the target population in the study. Os objetivos foram: verificar se os fatores que influenciam o risco de crédito diferem de acordo com a localização geográfica do tomador; comparar o conjunto de modelos estimados via GWLR frente ao modelo global estimado via Regressão Logística, em termos de capacidade de previsão e perdas financeiras para a instituição; e verificar a viabilidade da utilização da técnica GWLR para desenvolver modelos de credit scoring. As métricas utilizadas para comparar os modelos desenvolvidos por meio das duas técnicas foram o critério informacional AICc, a acurácia dos modelos, o percentual de falsos positivos, a soma do valor da dívida dos falsos positivos e o valor monetário esperado de inadimplência da carteira frente ao valor monetário de inadimplência observado. Os modelos estimados para cada região do DF se mostraram distintos em suas variáveis e coeficientes (parâmetros), concluindo-se que o risco de crédito foi influenciado de maneira distinta em cada região do estudo. Abstract

Background: Gastroesophageal intussusception is characterized by the invagination of the stomach into the esophagus, with or without the involvementof adjacent organs such as the spleen, pancreas, and omentum. In dogs, this condition has no breed or sex predisposition. As it is an infrequent disease in routine veterinary medical practice, this study reports a case of gastroesophageal intussusception in a dog necropsied at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (HOVET - UFRPE), Recife, Brazil. Case: The body of a 12-year-old black mixed breed male dog was sent to the Pathology Department (Necropsy Sector of the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco - UFRPE) for a necropsy. The animal had a previous 4-year history of recurrent emesis and limb weakness, primarily in the anterior limbs, that worsened in the previous months and progressed to death. No previous treatments were reported by the owner. On external examination, the animal had a low body score (cachectic), forelimb joints with great flexibility, congested oral and ocular mucous membranes, enophthalmos, and increased volume in the perianal region. At the opening of the thoracic cavity, the final third of the esophagus was dilated and gastroesophageal intussusception, edema, and pulmonary congestion were noted. In the abdominal cavity, there was hepatic and renal congestion and large intestine and rectal ampoule dilation, with a large amount of solid and retained feces (fecaloma), perianal hernia, and testicular neoformation. These findings were consistent with those observed in death caused by cardiorespiratory failure secondary to gastroesophageal intussusception. Discussion: The pathophysiology of gastroesophageal intussusception is still not elucidated and is probably multifactorial. This condition causes reverse gastric peristalsis associated with a sudden and sustained increase in abdominal pressure. Some probable predisposing factors for this pathological condition are esophageal motility disorders, lower esophageal sphincter dysfunction, and hiatal enlargement. In dogs, gastroesophageal intussusception is associated with increased intraabdominal pressure owing to emesis or blunt trauma, negative intrathoracic pressure caused by respiratory, and previous esophageal diseases, especially megaesophagus. Partial or total obstruction caused by intussusception leads to circulatory disorders in the organs, especially decreased venous return. Persistence of this condition can lead to gastric necrosis and rupture followed by endotoxic (or septic) shock and release of inflammatory mediators that can cause cardiovascular and respiratory dysfunction and rapid death. Impaired circulation is macroscopically evident in several organs, characterized by mucosal, lung, liver, and kidney congestion, in addition to cardiac dilation and mitral valve endocardiosis. The occurrence of stomach invagination into the esophagus dilated in the final portion is characteristic of gastroesophageal intussusception. Moreover, death owing to cardiorespiratory failure is related to cardiac (dilatation and endocardiosis) and pulmonary (edema and congestion) involvement secondary to gastroesophageal intussusception. Abstract

The emergence and transmission of false memories is well documented in individual memory tasks. However, the examination of these processes in the context of social interaction still presents mixed findings. The present study further examines the potential of collaboration in minimizing the acceptance and retrieval of misinformation. In Experiment 1 participants watched a video immediately followed by a recall task (collaborative vs. nominal). Then a questionnaire (collaborative vs. individual) containing true information and misinformation about the video was presented. After the questionnaire, participants were given a new recall task (collaborative vs. nominal). We expected that collaboration at encoding and at retrieval would reduce the acceptance and recall of misinformation. Results revealed, as expected, that collaborative groups performed better in answering the questionnaire, accepting more correct information and rejecting more misinformation. Subsequently, they also recalled less misinformation. However, their recall of correct information was also lower. To rule out the potential role of collaborative inhibition in explaining the results observed in the final recall, in Experiment 2 the collaborative manipulation occurred only during the questionnaire and both recall tasks were individual. Again, participants answering the questionnaire collaboratively performed better than those answering individually. Critically, in a subsequent individual recall task, they produced less false memories and more correct information than those answering the questionnaire individually. Abstract

This study sought to analyze the variables that can influence company bankruptcy. For several years, the main studies on bankruptcy reported on the conventional methodologies with the aim of predicting it. In their analyses, the use of accounting variables was massively predominant. However, when applying them, the accounting variables were considered as homogenous; that is, for the traditional models, it was assumed that in all companies the behavior of the indicators was similar, and the heterogeneity among them was ignored. The relevance of the financial crisis that occurred at the end of 2007 is also observed; it caused a major global financial collapse, which had different effects on a wide variety of sectors and companies. Within this context, research that aims to identify problems such as the heterogeneity among companies and analyze the diversities among them are gaining relevance, given that the sector-related characteristics of capital structure and size, among others, vary depending on the company. Based on this, new approaches applied to bankruptcy prediction modeling should consider the heterogeneity among companies, aiming to improve the models used even more. A causal tree and forest were used together with quarterly accounting and sector-related data on 1,247 companies, 66 of which were bankrupt, 44 going bankrupt after 2008 and 22 before. The results showed that there is unobserved heterogeneity when the company bankruptcy processes are analyzed, raising questions about the traditional models such as discriminant analysis and logit, among others. Consequently, with the large volume in terms of dimensions, it was observed that there may be a functional form capable of explaining company bankruptcy, but this is not linear.
