With declining fertility rates becoming a global trend, it is crucial to enhance the fertility intentions of mobile individuals of reproductive age. This study utilizes both questionnaire surveys and experimental methods to examine the influence of residential mobility on fertility intentions and the mediating role of well-being. The consistent findings from Study 1 and Study 2 (2a and 2b) indicate that residential mobility significantly negatively predicts individuals' fertility intentions, and well-being plays a significant mediating role between residential mobility and fertility intentions. This research, conducted from a psychological perspective, sheds light on the internal mechanisms linking residential mobility and fertility intentions, providing theoretical and empirical evidence to enhance fertility intentions among mobile populations in China.

For several decades, the numerous very small towns structuring the French countryside have been facing a significant ageing of their population alongside series of structural processes, which strained their historical role in rural areas. They therefore benefit from a national public policy in which the challenges of ageing population are part of the stated priorities. However, as observed in the academic literature, these policies lack of research about the factors explaining the ageing and its effects on very small towns dynamics.Our study of local public action in three very small towns (Vayrac (Lot); Tarascon-sur-Ariège (Ariège); Loué (Sarthe)) reveals a gap between public policies and current demographic dynamics. Indeed, local public policies focusing on the attraction of young households contrast with the migratory realities of these towns. Very small towns are mainly attractive to older people and relatively repulsive to younger age groups. Moreover, while some very small towns are facing socio-demographic weaknesses, the arrival of retired people sometimes maintain or even increase the number of inhabitants. This article invites us to question the current local attractiveness policies and to deconstruct some of the negative representations that surround the effects of an ageing population on territorial dynamics.

Electricity demand has increased tremendously in recent years, due to the fact that all sectors require energy for their operation. Due to the increased amount of modern home appliances on the market, residential areas consume a significant amount of energy. This article focuses on the residential community to reduce peak load on residential distribution networks. Mostly, the residential consumer's power demand increases more during the summer season due to many air conditioners (AC) operating in residential homes. This paper proposes a novel summer peak intelligent controller (SPIC) algorithm to reduce summer peak load in residential distribution transformers (RDT). This proposed SPIC algorithm is implemented in a multi-home energy management system (MHEMS) with a four-home hardware prototype and a real-time TNEB system. This hardware prototype is divided into two different cases, one with and one without taking user comfort into account. When considering consumer comfort, all residential homes reduce their peak load almost equally. The maximum and minimum contribution percentages in Case 2 are 29.82% and 19.30%, respectively. Additionally, the real-time TNEB system is addressed in two different cases: with and without incentive-based programs. In the real-time TNEB system during peak hours, the novel SPIC algorithm reduces peak demand in Case 1 by 113.70 kW, and Case 2 further reduces it to 118.80 kW. The peak load decrease in Case 2 during peak hours is 4.5% greater than in Case 1. Demand response (DR) modifies the pattern from a straightforward to an interactive one, allowing for the investigation of consumer participation in the power market and progress. The most important technique for evaluating the status of DR program implementation among those discussed in the earlier literature is consumer baseline load (CBL). Without using the DR program, CBL depicts the consumer consumption pattern that might emerge. There hasn't been much study done on CBL computation for residential consumers, and most of it ignores the influence of weather on these estimates. This study describes a novel method for computing CBL for residential consumers in the context of a smart grid. The findings show how weather affects CBL estimations and consumer desire to upgrade home insulation. The proposed method is examined in four test cases. The day-wise load data for the first test case has been collected from the NO1 region of Nord Pool and the remaining three test case data have been collected from the Connecticut and New Hampshire region of New England ISO. Background: Low mobility during an acute care medical hospitalization is frequent and associated with adverse outcomes, particularly among older patients. Better understanding barriers and facilitators to improve mobility during hospitalization could help develop effective interventions. The goal of this study was to assess barriers and facilitators to older medical patients' hospital mobility, from the point of view of patients and clinicians, to develop a framework applicable in clinical practice. Methods: We conducted a qualitative study in one university and two non-university hospitals of two different language and cultural regions of Switzerland, including 13 focus groups (FGs; five with patients, eight with clinicians). We included 24 adults aged 60 years or older hospitalized on an acute general internal medicine ward of one of the three participating hospitals during the previous years, and 34 clinicians (15 physicians, nine nurses/nursing assistants, 10 physiotherapists) working on those wards. The FG guides included open-ended questions exploring mobility experiences, expectations, barriers and facilitators to mobility, consequences of low mobility and knowledge on mobility. We applied an inductive thematic analysis. Results: We identified four themes of barriers and facilitators to mobility: 1) patient-related factors; 2) clinician-related factors; 3) social interactions; and 4) non-human factors. Clinician-related factors were only mentioned in clinician FGs. Otherwise, subthemes identified from patient and clinician FGs were similar and codes broadly overlapped. Subthemes included motivation, knowledge, expectations, mental and physical state (theme 1); process, knowledge – skills, mental state – motivation (theme 2); interpersonal relationships, support (theme 3); hospital setting – organization (theme 4). Conclusions: From patients' and clinicians' perspectives, a broad spectrum of human and structural factors influences mobility of older patients hospitalized on an acute general internal medicine ward. New factors included privacy issues and role perception. Many of those factors are potentially actionable without additional staff resources. The use of housing career and housing pathways concepts has increased over the past several decades. The two concepts have shared origins in housing research but have different theoretical foundations. Housing careers and housing pathways concepts are defined as synonyms, distinctly different but complementary, and incompatible concepts. While the lack of shared definitions is common in interdisciplinary research, it may result in a fragmented knowledge base and hindrance to theory development and use. This research uses concept analysis to examine definitions of the concepts of housing career and housing pathways provided in the literature between 2001 and 2020. The analysis findings suggest that the concepts have both shared and unique attributes. However, concept definitions were missing or inconsistent across the literature, and distinctions between housing career and housing pathways concepts were often unclear. It is often assumed that people experiencing homelessness gravitate to large cities and central city areas because of the concentration of homelessness services — a so-called magnet or honeypot effect. Yet little is actually known about how people experiencing homelessness move across space over time. This article explores this geography by comparing the mobility of those experiencing homelessness, those 'at-risk', and those renting privately in Australia, between waves in two Australian panel surveys: Journeys Home and the Household, Income and Labour Dynamics in Australia (HILDA). Results suggest that while people experiencing homelessness are more likely to move than the other two groups, they more similarly short distances and appear more likely to move for reasons such as relationship breakdown, eviction and to escape violence. While some evidence of movement to areas with particular characteristics (sorting) was detected amongst those at-risk and those renting privately, this was not the case for those experiencing homelessness. Results do not support the contention that people experiencing homelessness gravitate to central urban areas well-resourced with homelessness services over time. The findings challenge assumptions about magnet effects and homelessness and have important implications for the provision and delivery of homelessness services in Australia and beyond. Objectives: The mortuary record at Middle Period site Kalawwasa Rummeytak (CA‐SCL‐134) (2600‐1225 cal BP) in California's southern Santa Clara Valley shows pronounced wealth inequality; Olivella shell bead wealth, as well as other grave goods, are concentrated in the burials of several older adult females. The concentration of wealth among women, along with regional strontium isotopic evidence of male‐biased residential shifts in early adulthood, suggests a matrilineal kinship system that practiced matrilocal post‐marital residence patterns. We suggest local resource enhancement effects incentivized keeping women in their natal communities and investing more in female offspring. Materials and Methods: With the consent of, and in collaboration with, the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area, this paper employs isotopic analysis (δ15N and δ13C, 86Sr/87Sr) to examine duration of exclusive breastfeeding, weaning age (complete cessation of breastmilk consumption), early childhood diet, and lifetime residential mobility of individuals interred at Kalawwasa Rummeytak to test the assumption that the site inhabitants favored matrilocality and that female offspring received greater levels of investment in groups with female wealth/status attainment. First molars, third molars, and bone was sampled from 22 individuals. Results: The average weaning age for females at Kalawwasa Rummeytak is 36.3 months ± 9.7 (1 SD), or just over 3 years. The average weaning age for males is 31.2 ± 7.9 months (1 SD), or about 2.6 years. Infants at the site were provisioned with supplemental foods dominated by C3 plants and terrestrial herbivores, as well as anadromous fish. After weaning, individuals consumed a diet dominated by acorns, C3 plants, and terrestrial herbivores, with periodic inclusion of anadromous fish. 30% of the sampled population of females exhibit local first molar 87Sr/86Sr values, suggesting that Kalawwasa Rummeytak is their natal community. None of the males interred at the site are locals. Discussion: Despite the small sample size often unavoidable in archaeological contexts, we find possible female‐biased parental investment strategies. Cessation of breastfeeding (weaning) was, on average, 5 months earlier for males compared to females. There are no differences between females and males in the consumption of supplemental or post‐weaning foods. Strontium data suggest a flexible postmarital residence system that favored matrilocality. Gentrification is a process whereby neighbourhoods and their socio-economic composition upgrade through residential moves and social mobility. Relatively little attention has been paid to the spatial aspect of gentrification-induced residential moves. This systematic literature review focuses on the origin and destination of moves to and from gentrifying neighbourhoods, by gentrifiers (movers in) and displacees (movers out). It identifies where, when, and how such research has been conducted and highlights gaps in the literature. Our results suggest that the destination of displaced households has been studied extensively, while an understanding of the spatial origins of gentrifiers is lacking. The few studies dedicated to gentrifiers' origins mostly focus on intra-urban environments, overlooking potential mobility dynamics from outside the city-region. We highlight that capturing both origins and destinations of movers at different spatial scales is necessary to demonstrate how residential mobility creates interactions and demographic interdependencies between neighbourhoods and cities. Inequality is present in all human societies, but building a robust understanding of how that inequality developed and persisted for centuries requires historical and archaeological data. Identifying the degree of inequality (or disparity) in ancient communities can be addressed through a variety of methods. One method becoming standard practice in archaeology evaluates inequality through quantitative analysis of robust settlement data. In this Compact Special Section, we assess household size as a potential reflection of wealth inequality among Classic period (a.d. 250–900) Maya settlements. First, we generate house-size data from both pedestrian and remotely sensed LiDAR surveys. Then we use those data to calculate Gini coefficients and Lorenz curves, which provide measures of variation. Gini coefficients range from 0 to 1, where 0 reflects perfect equality and 1 indicates perfect inequality, regardless of the actual values in the distribution. Both area (m2) and volume (m3) provide different, complementary metrics to investigate residential size as a metric for wealth inequality among Classic Maya Lowland settlements. Proposed mechanisms that generate inequality include the intergenerational transmission of wealth and differential access to resources; however, addressing these and other pathways for how inequality develops and persists, and how it was maintained in the past provides insight into similar processes of systemic inequality worldwide. Located at the western edge of the Classic Maya heartland, El Peru-Waka' was one of the most densely aggregated urban cores in the Lowlands. With households packed next to each other, it can be difficult to define where one ends and another begins. Nevertheless, survey and excavation data suggest that differences in household provisioning and generational cycling created considerable variation in household wealth across the city. This paper employs household area (m2) and volume (m3) to calculate Gini coefficients for the El Peru-Waka' urban core and immediate hinterlands to quantify household differentiation across the urban landscape. Comparison of the coefficients for the total study area with those for individual urban zones (core, periurban, hinterland) demonstrate that while El Perú-Waka' exhibits high overall household differentiation, this differentiation is considerably muted within a given urban zone. The focus on geographical mobility is consolidating within youth studies. Mobility now increasingly characterises contemporary youth, and seems to play a crucial role in marking the transition to adulthood, conveying the complexity of youth cultures. Moving abroad represents an opportunity that fuels the transition to adulthood, by enabling young people to experience cultural diversity, experiment with practices of cosmopolitanism and reframe their sense of belonging in terms of places, times and relationships. The paper draws on a qualitative study of young Italians who have recently moved to Berlin, and explores the relationships between the transition to adulthood, mobility, cosmopolitanism and sense of belonging. It highlights the deep structural and cultural roots of their mobility practices: mobility is present from an early age in their desires, regardless of their class of origin or educational qualifications. Their mobility practices also involve a daily reworking of their sense of belonging, which sees them navigating family and friendship bonds, and new relationships of intimacy that 'make home' and often arise in the context of a cosmopolitan generation on the move. Residential mobility is an important issue in human geography. However, existing studies mainly focus on the pattern and determinants of residential mobility, and seldom examine the consequences or outcomes of residential mobility, especially the changes in neighborhood environment before and after residential relocation within cities. This article is based on a twowave survey in Beijing and adopts the method of statistical tests and exploratory factor analysis to analyze the differences in neighborhood facility accessibility, walkability, location and perceived neighborhood environment before and after the relocation, and uses Binary Logistic Regression model to examine the influencing factors of the changes in neighborhood environment associated with relocation. It is found that the majority of migrants have improved their neighborhood environment after relocation, and the relevant changes are affected by life course events, housing adjustment, motivation for move, and household and individual socioeconomics. Based on ethnographic research and biographical interviews conducted in a public housing district of Milan, this article uses the concept of existential mobility to highlight how the effects of privatization, residualization and divestment in Public Residential Housing in Italy subject residents of public districts to multiple forms of (im)mobility, experienced through the verification of access requirements, the desire for residential mobility and the inevitability of expulsion from the urban fabric. The article concludes by looking at the occupations of public housing as the embodiment of a generative immobility that leaves room for new forms of existential mobility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In 2021, Snowstorm Uri caused significant damage in Texas, disrupting business and activities, energy distribution, and access to critical resources. To improve the preparedness of vulnerable communities for future extreme events, this study uses SafeGraph data to investigate mobility challenges in Harris County, Texas, during the Snowstorm Uri by aggregating foot traffic and then examining the varied impacts on people of different socioeconomic statuses. Results show that while everyone suffered the same level of mobility constraint during the snowstorm, lower socioeconomic households experienced greater loss of mobility, but had a higher mobility recovery rate. Elderly people were less resilient to mobility recovery. The findings highlight the need for enhancing critical resources and building well-prepared emergency management programs to foster greater adaptability and care for vulnerable groups. This study investigates how the residential locations of extended family members influence residential (im)mobility behaviour in the urbanizing and industrializing context of China. It engages with how residential mobility as family adaptive strategies are structured by traditional family beliefs, welfare systems and structural modernization processes. For younger adults who have parents but no adult children, when they co-reside with their parents, they are more likely to move rather than staying put. But they usually move short distances within the county rather than outside the county. This mainly implies a process of moving out of the intergenerational households and establishing their independent households. The presence of their parents at the county scale also deters them from moving outside the county. These young adults seem to be bounded within the county by family ties. Besides, when they have siblings within the county, they are more likely to move outside the county than within the county; siblings near their parents may allow other siblings to move away for job and education opportunities, indicating a responsibility-sharing theory. For older adults who have young adult children but no living parents, they are more likely to move outside the county when their nearest adult child(ren) is outside the county, a strong implication of moving towards their adult children. For those who have both living parents and adult children, they are more likely to stay put or to move locally within the county, rather than moving out the county, when their parents are at the county scale. Few studies on residential mobility of ageing adults to rural areas have investigated which of them buy a home in a rural risk area. This paper examines which socio-demographic characteristics, housing attributes and earthquake circumstances influence the actual choice of mid-to-later life adults to purchase a house in a rural risk area. The study focuses on housing transactions in the Dutch Groningen rural earthquake region, compared to transactions in the Groningen rural non-earthquake area from 2012 to 2019 (N = 6,082). Buying a house in the Groningen risk area might be challenging, as the earthquakes have had a significant impact on the regional housing market, the building structure of the houses and the wellbeing of the residents. Earlier research nonetheless suggests that, despite the risks, homebuyers still purchase houses in the Groningen earthquake area. The developed model predicts which mid-to-later life homebuyers of 50 years and older will purchase a dwelling in the Groningen earthquake region. Logistic regression analyses show that characteristics of the mid-to-later life homebuyer and earthquake circumstances are decisive aspects in respect of this choice. Being a single mid-to-later life homebuyer, with a previous residence in the Groningen earthquake region or being born in this region, enlarges the probability of purchasing a home in the earthquake region. Another significant predictor of a home purchase in the earthquake region appears to be a higher earthquake intensity of the homebuyer's previous residence. Background: Social frailty has not been comprehensively studied in China. Our objective is to investigate the prevalence of social frailty among the older population in China, as well as identify relevant factors and urban-rural differences. Methods: We obtained data from the Fourth Sample Survey of the Aged Population in Urban and Rural China (SSAPUR) database. The study employed a multistage, stratified, cluster-sampling method, recruiting a total of 224,142 adults aged 60 years or older. Participants were interviewed to gather demographic data and information on family, health and medical conditions, health care service status, living environment conditions, social participation, protected rights status, spiritual and cultural life, and health. Social frailty was assessed using the HALFE Social Frailty Index. A score of three or above indicated social frailty. Results: We analyzed a total of 222,179 cases, and the overall prevalence of social frailty was found to be 15.2%. The highest prevalence was observed among participants aged 75–79 years (18.0%). The prevalence of social frailty was higher in rural older populations compared to urban older populations (19.9% in rural vs. 10.9% in urban, P < 0.0001). In urban areas, women had a higher prevalence than men (11.7% in women vs. 9.9% in men, P < 0.0001), while in rural areas, men had a higher prevalence than women (20.6% in men vs. 19.2% in women, P < 0.0001). Multivariate regression analysis revealed that living in a rural/urban environment (OR 1.789, 95% CI 1.742–1.837), absence of a spouse/spousal presence (OR 4.874, 95% CI 4.743–5.009), self-assessed unhealthy/health status (OR 1.696, 95% CI 1.633–1.761), and housing dissatisfaction/satisfaction (OR 2.303, 95% CI 2.233–2.376) were all significantly associated with social frailty. Conclusions: Using the HALFE social frailty index, we found a prevalence of 15.2% among older people in China, with the highest prevalence observed in the 75–79 age group. Social frailty was more prevalent in rural areas than in urban areas. Various factors, including spousal presence, housing satisfaction, health status, and urban-rural residential differences, were significantly associated with social frailty. Background: We describe the rationale and study design for "TRUsted rEsidents and Housing Assistance to decrease Violence Exposure in New Haven (TRUE HAVEN)," a prospective type 1 hybrid effectiveness/implementation study of a multi-level intervention using a stepped wedge design. TRUE HAVEN aims to lower rates of community gun violence by fostering the stability, wealth, and well-being of individuals and families directly impacted by incarceration through the provision of stable housing and by breaking the cycle of trauma. Design: TRUE HAVEN is an ongoing, multi-level intervention with three primary components: financial education paired with housing support (individual level), trauma-informed counseling (neighborhood level), and policy changes to address structural racism (city/state level). Six neighborhoods with among the highest rates of gun violence in New Haven, Connecticut, will receive the individual and neighborhood level intervention components sequentially beginning at staggered 6-month steps. Residents of these neighborhoods will be eligible to participate in the housing stability and financial education component if they were recently incarcerated or are family members of currently incarcerated people; participants will receive intense financial education and follow-up for six months and be eligible for special down payment and rental assistance programs. In addition, trusted community members and organization leaders within each target neighborhood will participate in trauma-informed care training sessions to then be able to recognize when their peers are suffering from trauma symptoms, to support these affected peers, and to destigmatize accessing professional mental health services and connect them to these services when needed. Finally, a multi-stakeholder coalition will be convened to address policies that act as barriers to housing stability or accessing mental healthcare. Interventions will be delivered through existing partnerships with community-based organizations and networks. The primary outcome is neighborhood rate of incident gun violence. To inform future implementation and optimize the intervention package as the study progresses, we will use the Learn As You Go approach to optimize and assess the effectiveness of the intervention package on the primary study outcome. Discussion: Results from this protocol will yield novel evidence for whether and how addressing structural racism citywide leads to a reduction in gun violence. Background: The emergence of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria represents a considerable threat to human health, particularly for vulnerable populations such as those living in residential aged care. However, antimicrobial resistance carriage and modes of transmission remain incompletely understood. The Generating evidence on antimicrobial Resistance in the Aged Care Environment (GRACE) study was established to determine principal risk factors of antimicrobial resistance carriage and transmission in residential aged care facilities (RACFs). This article describes the cohort characteristics, national representation, and planned analyses for this study. Methods: Between March 2019 and March 2020, 279 participants were recruited from five South Australian RACFs. The median age was 88.6 years, the median period in residence was 681 days, and 71.7% were female. A dementia diagnosis was recorded in 54.5% and more than two thirds had moderate to severe cognitive impairment (68.8%). 61% had received at least one course of antibiotics in the 12 months prior to enrolment. Results: To investigate the representation of the GRACE cohort to Australians in residential aged care, its characteristics were compared to a subset of the historical cohort of the Registry of Senior Australians (ROSA). This included 142,923 individuals who were permanent residents of RACFs on June 30th, 2017. GRACE and ROSA cohorts were similar in age, sex, and duration of residential care, prevalence of health conditions, and recorded dementia diagnoses. Differences were observed in care requirements and antibiotic exposure (both higher for GRACE participants). GRACE participants had fewer hospital visits compared to the ROSA cohort, and a smaller proportion were prescribed psycholeptic medications. Conclusions: We have assembled a cohort of aged care residents that is representative of the Australian aged care population, and which provides a basis for future analyses. Metagenomic data isolated from participants and built environments will be used to determine microbiome and resistome characteristics of an individual and the facility. Individual and facility risk exposures will be aligned with metagenomic data to identify principal determinants for antimicrobial resistance carriage. Ultimately, this analysis will inform measures aimed at reducing the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistant pathogens in this high-risk population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The global decline of religiosity represents one of the most significant societal shifts in recent history. After millennia of near-universal religious identification, the world is experiencing a regionally uneven trend toward secularization. We propose an explanation of this decline, which claims that automation--the development of robots and artificial intelligence (AI)--can partly explain modern religious declines. We build four unique datasets composed of more than 3 million individuals which show that robotics and AI exposure is linked to 21st-century religious declines across nations, metropolitan regions, and individual people. Key results hold controlling for other technological developments (e.g., electricity grid access and telecommunications development), socioeconomic indicators (e.g., wealth, residential mobility, and demographics), and factors implicated in previous theories of religious decline (e.g., individual choice norms). There have been consistent efforts to improve the spatiotemporal representations of biogenic/anthropogenic emission sources for photochemical transport modeling for better accuracy of local/regional air quality forecasts. While biogenic emissions, bi-directional NH 3 from fertilizer applications, and point source plume rise are dynamically coupled in the Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) "inline", there are still known meteorology-induced emissions sectors (e.g., on-road mobile sources, residential heating, and livestock waste), with little or no accounting for the meteorological impacts in the currently operational chemical and aerosol forecasts, but they are represented with static, not weather-aware annual or monthly county total emissions and standard monthly, weekly, or daily temporal allocation profiles to disaggregate them on finer timescales for the hourly air quality forecasts. It often results in poor forecasting performance due to the poor spatiotemporal representations of precursor pollutants during high ozone and PM 2.5 episodes. The main focus of this study is to develop a dynamic inline coupler within the CMAQ system for the on-road mobile emission sector that requires significant computational resources in the current modeling application. To improve their accuracy and spatiotemporal representations, we developed the inline coupler module called CMAQ-MetEmis (for meteorology-induced emission sources within CMAQ version 5.3.2 modeling system). It can dynamically estimate meteorology-induced hourly gridded on-road mobile emissions within the CMAQ, using simulated meteorology without any computational burden to the CMAQ modeling system. To understand the impacts of meteorology-driven on-road mobile emissions on local air quality, the CMAQ is applied over the continental U.S. for 2 months (January and July 2019) for two emissions scenarios, namely (a) "static" on-road vehicle emissions based on static temporal profiles and (b) inline CMAQ-MetEmis on-road vehicle emissions. Overall, the CMAQ-MetEmis coupler allows us to dynamically simulate on-road vehicle emissions from the MOtor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) on-road emission model for CMAQ, with a better spatiotemporal representation based on the simulated meteorology inputs when compared to the static scenario. The domain total of daily volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions from the inline scenario shows that the largest impacts are from the local meteorology, which is approximately 10 % lower than the ones from the static scenario. In particular, the major difference in the VOC estimates was shown over the California region. These local meteorology impacts on the on-road vehicle emissions via CMAQ-MetEmis revealed an improvement in the hourly NO 2 , daily maximum ozone, and daily average PM 2.5 patterns, with a higher agreement and correlation with daily ground observations. Addressing risks and pandemics at a country level is a complex task that requires transdisciplinary approaches. The paper aims to identify groups of the European Union countries characterized by a similar COVID-19 Resilience Index (CRI). Developed in the paper CRI index reflects the countries' COVID-19 risk and their readiness for a crisis situation, including a pandemic. Moreover, the study detects the factors that significantly differentiate the distinguished groups. According to our research, Bulgaria, Hungary, Malta, and Poland have the lowest COVID-19 Resilience Index score, with Croatia, Greece, Czechia, and Slovakia following close. At the same time, Ireland and Scandinavian countries occupy the top of the leader board, followed by Luxemburg. The Kruskal-Wallis test results indicate four COVID-19 risk indicators that significantly differentiate the countries in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among the significant factors are not only COVID-19-related factors, i.e., the changes in residential human mobility, the stringency of anti-COVID-19 policy, but also strictly environmental factors, namely pollution and material footprint. It indicates that the most critical global environmental issues might be crucial in the phase of a future pandemic. Moreover, we detect eight readiness factors that significantly differentiate the analysed country groups. Among the significant factors are the economic indicators such as GDP per capita and labour markets, the governance indicators such as Rule of Law, Access to Information, Implementation and Adaptability measures, and social indicators such as Tertiary Attainment and Research, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the number one health threat globally. Adverse indoor thermal environments are associated with excess mortality caused by CVDs in the cold season. While many studies have focused on the impact of indoor temperature on CVDs, none has considered the fluctuation of indoor temperature. To quantify the effect of indoor temperature on blood pressure and the effect of indoor temperature fluctuation on blood pressure variability (BPV), 172 middle-aged and elderly people in areas that experience both hot summers and cold winters in China completed a household survey regarding their characteristics and living habits. A hierarchical linear model (HLM) was used to analyze the impact of indoor temperature on home blood pressure. A multiple linear model was used to analyze the effect of indoor temperature fluctuation on day-to-day home blood pressure variability. The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between morning temperature below 18 °C and blood pressure, especially systolic blood pressure (SBP). At the same time, morning temperature fluctuations have an independent influence on BPV, and a deviation of morning temperature fluctuation greater than 1.1 °C significantly increased BPV. Morning temperature and its fluctuation threshold for the rise of SBP and its variability of middle-aged and elderly people were clarified, which can provide a basis for the design, operation, and evaluation of residential thermal environmental health performance for the middle-aged and elderly population in this area, thereby reducing the cardiovascular health risk of the corresponding population. There is mixed evidence about the effects of residential mobility on children's educational outcomes. In 2013, the Chilean Ministry of Housing implemented a social housing demolition programme, which focused on projects with severe structural and overcrowding problems. Residents from demolished buildings received a subsidy to relocate. In this paper, I conduct a two-way fixed effects analysis and mediation analysis to explore if residential mobility during school years affects attendance and grades for children who moved with this programme, compared to those who were eligible but did not move. Using data for the 2012–2018 period, I find that moving is associated with a decrease in attendance, but the decrease is reduced if the distance between housing and the school is less than 1 km. Existing research has found that home visiting programs for families with young children can improve children's development and strengthen caregiver and family well-being. However, the pandemic created numerous challenges for home visiting programs, forcing them to deliver services online or in a hybrid format to respond to pandemic-related challenges. Questions remain about the impacts of these programs when delivered at-scale via a hybrid model, especially during this uniquely challenging time. The present study reports 12-month impacts from a randomized controlled trial of Child First—an evidence-based home visiting program that provides psychotherapeutic, parent–child intervention (children ages 0–5) embedded in a coordinated system of care—when implemented as a hybrid service. This study estimates impacts within four domains: families' receipt of services, caregiver psychological well-being and parenting, child behavior, and family economic well-being. After randomly assigning families (N = 226) to receive Child First or typical community services, the research team surveyed caregivers (N = 183) about a year after study enrollment. Results from regression models with site fixed effects revealed suggestive evidence that Child First reduced caregivers' job loss, residential mobility, and self-reported substance abuse, and increased receipt of virtual services during the pandemic. There were null impacts on caregivers' psychological well-being, families' involvement with the child welfare system, children's behaviors, and other indicators of economic well-being. Neighbourhood effects research has benefited from the application of sequence analysis which, together with cluster analysis, identifies the main temporal patterns of exposure to residential contexts experienced by different groups of people, such as children. However, given that this is a relatively new approach to measuring exposure to neighbourhood deprivation, studies that have utilised sequence analysis to model residential trajectories and test for neighbourhood effects do not contextualise these population-level findings at the individual-level. The current study sought to investigate the patterns of exposure to neighbourhood deprivation experienced by children in Aotearoa New Zealand over the first eight years of life by utilising two different methodological approaches: at the macro-level, the results of the sequence and cluster analysis suggest that in general, children experienced little neighbourhood mobility; at the micro-level, children experienced greater levels of movement between different levels of neighbourhood deprivation in middle childhood, compared to early childhood, while children in the least and most deprived neighbourhoods experienced less mobility than their peers. Together, these findings provide a comprehensive description of the ways in which children are exposed to different residential contexts over time and advance our understandings of how to document these experiences effectively within quantitative research. Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine quickly expanded. Broadband speeds may impact equitable access to video-based mental health (MH) services. Objective: To identify access disparities in Veterans Health Administration (VHA) MH services based on broadband speed availability. Design: Instrumental variable difference-in-differences study using administrative data to identify MH visits prior to (October 1, 2015–February 28, 2020) and after COVID-19 pandemic onset (March 1, 2020–December 31, 2021) among 1176 VHA MH clinics. The exposure is broadband download and upload speeds categorized as inadequate (download ≤25 Megabits per second - Mbps; upload ≤3 Mbps), adequate (download ≥25 Mbps and <100 Mbps; upload ≥5 Mbps and <100 Mbps), or optimal (download and upload ≥100/100 Mbps) based on data reported to the Federal Communications Commission at the census block and spatially merged to each veteran's residential address. Participants: All veterans receiving VHA MH services during study period. Main Measures: MH visits were categorized as in-person or virtual (i.e., telephone or video). By patient, MH visits were counted quarterly by broadband category. Poisson models with Huber-White robust errors clustered at the census block estimated the association between a patient's broadband speed category and quarterly MH visit count by visit type, adjusted for patient demographics, residential rurality, and area deprivation index. Key Results: Over the 6-year study period, 3,659,699 unique veterans were seen. Adjusted regression analyses estimated the change after pandemic onset versus pre-pandemic in patients' quarterly MH visit count; patients living in census blocks with optimal versus inadequate broadband increased video visit use (incidence rate ratio (IRR) = 1.52, 95% CI = 1.45–1.59; P < 0.001) and decreased in-person visits (IRR = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.90–0.94; P < 0.001). Conclusions: This study found patients with optimal versus inadequate broadband availability had more video-based and fewer in-person MH visits after pandemic onset, suggesting broadband availability is an important determinant of access-to-care during public health emergencies requiring remote care. Background and Aim: The United States (US) government implemented interventions against COVID-19, but their effects on variant-related risks remain inconclusive. We aimed to assess the causal effects of vaccination rates, booster uptakes, face mask mandates, and public area mobility (societal behavioral factor) on early-stage COVID-19 case and death growth rates and identify the most effective public health response for controlling COVID-19 in the US. Materials and Methods: We performed retrospective analyses using four standard correlated random effects models, analyzing a robust panel dataset that encompasses 16,700 records across all fifty US states. Models 1 and 3 analyzed COVID-19 case rates and death growth rates, respectively, from January 2021 to November 2021. In contrast, using the data from August 2021 to November 2021, Models 2 and 4 assessed the effect of Delta variants and booster shots on COVID-19 case and death growth rates, respectively. Results: We found that face mask mandate (p < 0.01) and workplace mobility (p < 0.05) led to lower COVID-19 case growth rates. COVID-19 vaccination uptake rate reduced COVID-19 death growth rates (p < 0.01). Furthermore, contrary to Epsilon variant (p < 0.01), which contributed to reduced COVID-19 case growth rates, Delta variant led to significant increases in COVID-19 cases (p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study suggests that immediate public health interventions, like mask mandates, are crucial for crisis mitigation, while long-term solutions like vaccination effectively address pandemics. The findings of this study not only sheds light on the recent pandemic but also equips policy-makers and health professionals with tools and knowledge to tackle future public health emergencies more effectively. The article deals with the problem of estimating criteria of the road traffic quality used in domestic (Belarus) and foreign research works. Each separate property of the road traffic, as well as their entire set - the so-called "quality", can be assessed by means of losses - the smaller the loss is, the better the property and the higher the quality are. Evaluation using losses, which are expressed in money, is very convenient and clear, since it allows comparing contradictory properties of road traffic not only the each other, but the costs' expenses involved in their improving, as well. The value of the costs estimate of the time spent by a user in the process of travelling has not been officially established and is the subject of research. The proposed methodology makes it possible to assess, not only the quality of the road traffic in general, but its main components, as well, for example, traffic management or road conditions. This study examined the extent to which residential mobility in the first 15 years of life was cumulatively associated with high school truancy at age 15 and whether there were specific developmental periods during which residential mobility was more consequential. To address these aims, we used data drawn from 4,848 children and families who participated in the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study (now called the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study). Results from covariate-adjusted regression models provided some evidence that children who experienced more residential moves across the first 15 years engaged in more truant behavior at age 15 and that these associations diminished with each additional move. With that said, the associations between cumulative residential mobility and adolescent truancy were not robust to different analytic specifications and there was no evidence for timingspecific associations. We analyze the practices of building, dismantling and moving (with material reutilization) of rural traditional houses in the Santiago del Estero plain. This study is carried out due to its potential for approaching problems linked to the archaeological record of local architecture and the dynamics of pre-Columbian residential space, issues without much archaeological information. The ethnographical observations were guided by questions arisen by the reading of archaeological data of mound sites inhabited in the region between ca. 1000 BP and peri-colonial moments. The analysis is focused on the possible consequences of practices similar to the present ones in the formation and interpretation (stratigraphical, chronological, spatial, functional) of the archaeological record, and on how such kind of practices in the past can be traced and detected through the archaeological data. The objective of this work is to present a characterization of the tehuelche groups during the contact period that followed the occupation declared by the Argentine state of Southern Patagonia. It seeks to establish an overview of the moment prior to the introduction of sheep farming in the region (1859-1884). Contributions from history and archeology are considered, both in background and in the scope of each discipline. A flexible occupation of space by equestrian hunters is reported, registering two main areas of occupation (strait of Magellan and Shehuen or Chalía river). These areas were made up of different camps, inns and trails, connected to the interior of each area and on a regional scale. This article engages with Frantz Fanon's writing on both geographical and dialectical movement. It suggests that in particular historical‐geographical contexts—such as those described by Fanon himself—geographical patterns of mobility and confinement operate as the presupposition and result of "race"; while also functionally enabling capitalism's necessary and enduring dialectic of appropriation and capitalisation, and reproducing the Fanonian "zone of nonbeing". More simply, this article suggests that in certain conjunctures the tight articulation of race, mobility, and capital accumulation inhibits the reciprocal recognition of equals. In those contexts, a spatialised "counter‐ontological" politics is the only means of establishing intersubjective symmetry and the preconditions for Fanon's "new humanism". This article concretises these arguments in relation to historical work on antebellum "carceral landscapes". It concludes by drawing explicitly on Stuart Hall's reflections on articulation and "lines of tendential force" in order to think through the relevance of Fanonian theorisation today. Housing shortages following the global financial crisis have been accompanied by a new, sharp downturn in rates of residential mobility, largely among renters. The Great Recession precipitated major, lingering housing disruptions, with local mobility declining by one-third in the US from 2010 to 2019. Slow construction despite employment recovery and burgeoning numbers of young Millennials led to intensified competition for vacancies. That 'friction of competition' is posited to delay moves and reduce overall mobility rates. Questions investigated are how urban area declines in renter mobility are related to slower housing construction than job growth, fewer rental vacancy chains released by home buyers, concentrations of young adults, and affordability. The existing literature contends that high housing prices are a negative factor inhibiting population mobility and urban innovation. This paper explores the interaction effect among population mobility, housing prices and urban innovation. Based on panel data from the Yangtze River Delta region from 2010 to 2019, we establish a simultaneous equation model (SEMs) to test the relationship between population mobility, housing prices, and urban innovation vitality. The empirical results show that (1) population mobility and housing prices are positively correlated; (2) urban innovation vitality has a significant and positive effect on housing prices; (3) population mobility and urban innovation vitality are also positively correlated. The impact on productivity of working from home is unclear. This study explores how the residential environment and personal attributes influence subjective productivity during winter. Indoor temperature and relative humidity were measured, and a questionnaire survey was conducted to gather information on subjective productivity, work type, work style, and personality traits. Results from 198 respondents indicated that productivity in simple tasks increased with the frequency of working from home. In addition, workers in better residential environments were 1.76 times more likely to exhibit higher productivity in simple tasks compared with those in poorer residential environments. Therefore, improving the residential environment, including temperature and humidity control, is critical to enhance productivity in simple tasks. However, workers who worked from home every day had a 0.47 times lower probability of exhibiting greater creative productivity compared with those who went to the office at least once a week, suggesting a decline in creative productivity for fully remote workers. Thus, a combination of office and remote work would be expected to increase overall productivity. Subjective productivity also varied depending on personality traits. The findings suggest that to improve productivity, workplace policies should allow for flexibility in customizing work environments according to tasks and personalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper examines the impact of massive refugee inflows on the mobility patterns of host communities. We rely on panel data from before and after the Syrian war and exploit the geographical distribution of Syrians across Jordanian subdistricts. Using difference in differences, we find that native outflows of the camp-hosting areas increased by 27%. This increased residential mobility out of the camp-hosting areas seems to be triggered by an increase in rents and a crowding out of Jordanian students by Syrians in schools. The regeneration of old residential communities in China is one of the most important tasks in urban renewal. In recent years, distinctive models and pathways have emerged in the emerging practice of participatory community regeneration, all of which can be seen as applications of collaborative governance theory at the community level. Collaborative governance is considered an effective way to achieve multiple goals in urban regeneration, but there has been relatively little research on collaborative governance in small-scale regeneration projects. This paper summarizes three nuanced pathways in the collaborative governance model through case studies, which are led by different initiators, resulting in collaborative models, rights dynamics, and implementation pathways that are applicable to different scenarios, effectively resolving community conflicts and producing sustainable practical results. This study compares how the three models achieve their respective objectives in participatory regeneration projects by coordinating the different stakeholder participation processes. Housing scholars stress the importance of the information environment in shaping housing search behavior and outcomes. Rental listings have increasingly moved online over the past two decades and, in turn, online platforms like Craigslist are now central to the search process. Do these technology platforms serve as information equalizers or do they reflect traditional information inequalities that correlate with neighborhood sociodemographics? We synthesize and extend analyses of millions of US Craigslist rental listings and find they supply significantly different volumes, quality, and types of information in different communities. Technology platforms have the potential to broaden, diversify, and equalize housing search information, but they rely on landlord behavior and, in turn, likely will not reach this potential without a significant redesign or policy intervention. Smart cities advocates hoping to build better cities through technology must critically interrogate technology platforms and big data for systematic biases.

Traditional US rental housing data sources such as the American Community Survey and the American Housing Survey report on the transacted market—what existing renters pay each month. They do not explicitly tell us about the spot market—i.e., the asking rents that current homeseekers must pay to acquire housing—though they are routinely used as a proxy. This study compares governmental data to millions of contemporaneous rental listings and finds that asking rents diverge substantially from these most recent estimates. Conventional housing data understate current market conditions and affordability challenges, especially in cities with tight and expensive rental markets.

With the increased mobility within nations, relocation has become a frequent and regular occurrence in modern life. However, we know little about how residential mobility affects purchase type. How does residential mobility affect our purchase behavior? This research explores the relationship between residential mobility and preference of purchase type, with psychological processes. The study primed participants with either a high or low mobility mindset to investigate the effect of mobility on consumption style in U.S. and South Korean. The results of the study confirm that the consideration of residential mobility shifts consumers’ preferences toward material goods and experiences. In addition, results also indicate that the connection between mobility and purchase type was mediated by autonomy and moderated by cultural factor. Lastly, the theoretical and practical implications are covered.

The concern to create cleaner and more ecosystem-friendly production processes has extended to the parking sector in Spain. Since the creation of the multi-level institutional framework for sustainable mobility management (mainly composed of the Infrastructure, Transport and Housing Plan 2012–2024, the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans, Law 9/2006, and Law 9/2017), environmental considerations, including sustainable management certificates, have occupied a privileged place in public procedures for the management of parking structures and regulated surface parking facilities. Although there have been previous academic studies on the design and implementation of SUMPs and the growth of the parking sector, this article is novel in that it analyzes the market concentration of the parking sector in a scenario where climate change policies are crucial and the importance of sustainability certificates takes on a new meaning. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze whether the growing importance of environmental aspects has led to an increase in the concentration level of the parking sector in Spain. For this purpose, several concentration and stability indices are calculated. The results show that, although there are additional factors, the certification of a cleaner activity is relevant in the process of public tenders in the sector, which has served to strengthen the dominance of the most prominent companies in the sector that are in possession of environmental certificates. This shows that environmental policies can also have negative effects on the market, so the results of this analysis are of great value to policymakers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
