For many herbivorous insects, vision is more important than olfaction in the prealighting stage of host habitat location. Tea leafhoppers, Empoasca onukii (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae), are serious pests that preferentially inhabit the tender leaves of tea plants across China. Here, we investigated whether tea leafhoppers could distinguish foliage colors associated with different leaf ages and use this visual cue to guide suitable habitat location from short distances. Similar to honeybees, the adult E. onukii has an apposition type of compound eye, and each ommatidium has eight retinular cells, in which three spectral types of photoreceptors are distributed, with peak sensitivities at 356 nm (ultraviolet), 435 nm (blue), and 542 nm (green). Both changes in spectral intensity and hue of reflectance light of the host foliage were correlated with varying leaf age, and the intensity linearly decreased with increasing leaf age. Behavioral responses also showed that adult E. onukii could discriminate between the simulated colors of host foliage at different leaf ages without olfactory stimuli and selected the bright colors that strongly corresponded to those of tender leaves. The results suggest that, compared with the spectral composition (hue), the intensity of light reflectance from leaves at different ages is more important for adult leafhoppers when discriminating host foliage and could guide them to tender leaves at the top of tea shoots.

A copper-catalyzed direct asymmetric coupling of C2 sterically-hindering-group-substituted indoles with quinone and naphthoquinone esters was developed by using the spirocyclic pyrrolidine oxazoline (SPDO) ligand, which was accomplished by metal catalysis for the first time. Diverse structures of axially chiral 3-arylindoles were obtained with good to high enantioselectivities in good to high yields. This protocol can be expanded to implement β-coupling with naphthoquinone esters, providing an alternative way to prepare β-substituted derivatives of both naphthols and naphthoquinones.

Cancer therapeutic strategies based on angiogenesis attract great attention from fundamental and clinical research. Blocking oxygen and nutrition supply to tumor cells could inhibit the growth of tumors based on occlusion of blood vessels in the tumor. Herein, we report a dual-responsive peptide-based nanoparticle, mimicking the laminin fibrillogenesis specifically and highly efficiently in tumor vessels, resulting in the blockage of tumor vessels and the growth inhibition of tumors. The laminin mimic peptide (LMMP) is designed with a fibrillation sequence, a pH-responsive sequence, and a targeting sequence. The LMMP in nanoformulations is delivered to blood vessels in the tumors, where the microenvironment (pH and microthrombus) enable LMMP to process laminin fibrillogenesis, constructing fibrous networks. The laminin-like fibrous networks capture red blood cells etc. , forming occlusion specifically in the tumor blood vessels to inhibit the growth of the tumor.

Since December 2019, an epidemic caused by novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection has occurred unexpectedly in China. As of 8 pm, 31 January 2020, more than 20 pediatric cases have been reported in China. Of these cases, ten patients were identified in Zhejiang Province, with an age of onset ranging from 112 days to 17 years. Following the latest National recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia caused by 2019-nCoV (the 4th edition) and current status of clinical practice in Zhejiang Province, recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory infection caused by 2019-nCoV for children were drafted by the National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, the National Children's Regional Medical Center, Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine to further standardize the protocol for diagnosis and treatment of respiratory infection in children caused by 2019-nCoV.

Platelets play a critical role in the regulation of coagulation, one of the essential processes in life, attracting great attention. However, mimicking platelets for in vivo artificial coagulation is still a great challenge due to the complexity of the process. Here, we design platelet-like nanoparticles (pNPs) based on self-assembled peptides that initiate coagulation and form clots in blood vessels. The pNPs first bind specifically to a membrane glycoprotein (i.e., CD105) overexpressed on angiogenetic endothelial cells in the tumor site and simultaneously transform into activated platelet-like nanofibers (apNFs) through ligand-receptor interactions. Next, the apNFs expose more binding sites and recruit and activate additional pNPs, forming artificial clots in both phantom and animal models. The pNPs are proven to be safe in mice without systemic coagulation. The efficient total synthesis of lycojaponicumin A ( 1 ) has been accomplished for the first time. The remarkable features of this novel strategy include the following: (1) rapid construction of tricyclic intermediate 4 through a regio- and stereoselective semipinacol ring expansion, which simplified the construction of rings A and B of 1 ; (2) the subsequent regio- and stereoselective formation of the highly strained rings C-E of 1 through a tandem oxa-hetero [3 + 2] cycloaddition/N-cycloalkylation.

Background: Many healthcare workers were infected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) early in the epidemic posing a big challenge for epidemic control. Hence, this study aims to explore perceived infection routes, influencing factors, psychosocial changes, and management procedures for COVID-19 infected healthcare workers., Methods: This is a cross-sectional, single hospital-based study. We recruited all 105 confirmed COVID-19 healthcare workers in the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University from February 15 to 29, 2020. All participants completed a validated questionnaire. Electronic consent was obtained from all participants. Perceived causes of infection, infection prevention, control knowledge and behaviour, psychological changes, symptoms and treatment were measured., Results: Finally, 103 professional staff with COVID-19 finished the questionnaire and was included (response rate: 98.1%). Of them, 87 cases (84.5%) thought they were infected in working environment in hospital, one (1.0%) thought their infection was due to the laboratory environment, and 5 (4.9%) thought they were infected in daily life or community environment. Swab of throat collection and physical examination were the procedures perceived as most likely causing their infection by nurses and doctors respectively. Forty-three (41.8%) thought their infection was related to protective equipment, utilization of common equipment (masks and gloves). The top three first symptoms displayed before diagnosis were fever (41.8%), lethargy (33.0%) and muscle aches (30.1%). After diagnosis, 88.3% staff experienced psychological stress or emotional changes during their isolation period, only 11.7% had almost no emotional changes. Arbidol (Umifenovir; an anti-influza drug; 69.2%) was the drug most commonly used to target infection in mild and moderate symptoms., Conclusion: The main perceived mode of transmission was not maintaining protection when working at a close distance and having intimate contact with infected cases. Positive psychological intervention is necessary.

Using broad-spectrum antibiotics for microbial infection may cause flora disequilibrium, drug-resistance, etc., seriously threatening human health. Here, we design a human defensin-6 mimic peptide (HDMP) that inhibits bacterial invasion in vivo through mimicking the mechanisms of human defensin-6 with high efficiency and precision. The HDMP with ligand and self-assembling peptide sequence recognizes bacteria through ligand-receptor interactions and subsequently traps bacteria by an in situ adaptive self-assembly process and resulting nanofibrous networks; these trapped bacteria are unable to invade host cells. In four animal infection models, the infection rate was markedly decreased. Notably, administration of HDMP (5 mg/kg) nanoparticles increased the survival rate of mice with methicillin-resistant S. aureus bacteremia by as much as 100%, even more than that of vancomycin treatment (5 mg/kg, 83.3%)-treated group, the golden standard of antibiotics. Objective: To explore the value of nucleic acid detection methods in pharyngeal swabs in the etiological diagnosis of Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) infection in children. Methods: Four hundred and fifty-four (male 210, female 244) children with pneumonia in Department of Pulmonology, Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine were enrolled from July, 2018 to October, 2018. Pharyngeal swabs and venous blood were obtained on the first or the second day after hospitalization. Fluorescence detection quantitative amplification of DNA, thermostatic amplification of RNA, MP culture and MP-IgM were used to detect MP simultaneously. MP infection is diagnosed if MP culture is positive or the two of the other three methods are positive. Pharyngeal swabs were acquired and detected using fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA, thermostatic amplification of RNA and MP culture again for children with confirmed MP infection before discharge. The detection rates and quantitative changes of the three methods were compared, and χ(2) test was used for comparison among groups. Results: A total of 454 hospitalized children with pneumonia were included in this study. The detection rates of fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA, thermostatic amplification of RNA, MP culture and MP-IgM IgM were 43.6% (198/454), 43.2% (196/454), 40.0% (180/454) and 30.6% (139/454) respectively. The difference of detection rates of the four methods was statistically significant (χ(2)=20.8, P< 0.05),but no significant difference between the detection rates of fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA and thermostatic amplification of RNA was found (χ(2)=0.018, P= 0.900). They both had higher detection rates than MP-IgM or MP culture. MP infection is diagnosed if MP culture is positive or the two of the other three methods are positive, and two hundred and nine children were diagnosed as MP infection. In the second test of MP infection in 209 children before discharge, the positive rate of MP culture was 67.5% (141/209), with 39.4% (13/33) changed from negative to positive, and 27.3% (48/176) changed from positive to negative. The positive rate of thermostatic amplification of RNA was 82.3% (172/209), with 16.2% (31/191) turned from positive to negative, and 66.7% (12/18) turned from negative to positive. The positive rate of fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA was 67.0% (140/209), with 52.9% (18/34) cases changed from negative to positive, and 30.3% (53/175) cases changed from positive to negative. MP-DNA load decreased in 141 cases (67.5%) and increased in 68 cases (32.5%) in the second test among the positive samples tested by fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA. The detection rates of the four methods in the non-severe group and the severe group were similar, and the differences among the groups were not statistically significant (all P> 0.05). In the second test, the proportion of changing from negative to positive in the severe group was higher than that in the non-severe group, but only the difference in the thermostatic amplification of RNA was statistically significant ( P= 0.038) and the cases of changing from negative to positive of thermostatic amplification of RNA in the severe group and non-severe group are 7 and 5 respectively. Conclusions: The methods of pharyngeal swab nucleic acid detection have high sensitivity and application value in the etiological diagnosis of acute MP infection in children. The results of fluorescence quantitative amplification of DNA and thermostatic amplification of RNA are highly consistent, and they are both more advantageous than MP-IgM. Repeated testing in the acute phase is helpful to find MP infection children whose first test is negative. The load of MP-DNA did not decrease in some children in the acute stage after antibiotic treatment.

Since December 2019, the outbreak of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become the most serious public health issue. As the special population with immature immune function, newborns with COVID-19 have been reported. Newborns with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be transferred to designated hospitals for isolation treatment. An emergency transfer response plan for newborns with COVID-19 has been worked out. This plan puts forward the indications for neonatal COVID-19 transfer, organization management, protection strategies for medical staff, work procedures, and disinfection methods for transfer equipment, in order to provide guidance and suggestions for the inter-hospital transfer of suspected or confirmed neonatal COVID-19.

Background: Different from the diagnosis of bacterial infections, Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP) is still lacking of convenient non-specific laboratory parameters., Method: A total of 125 children with MPP were included in the MPP group and 89 children with Mycoplasma-negative pneumonia were included in the control group, and the sera were collected from the children at both the acute and recovery stages in the two groups., Results: The sialic acid and C3 in the MPP group were significantly higher than those in the control group both at the acute and at the recovery stage. On the other hand, the sialic acid and C3 at the acute stage were significantly higher than those at the recovery stage in the MPP group. However, in the control group, the sialic acid and C3 demonstrated IgG exhibited no significant change between the acute stage and the recovery stage. Lastly, positive correlations between sialic acid level and C3 level were identified in the MPP group at both acute and recovery stages., Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that the serum sialic acid correlated with C3 specifically increased in children with MPP, indicating that it might be the important non-specific parameters in the diagnosis of MPP., (© 2020 The Authors. Objective: To evaluate the association between the frequency of bowel movement (BMF) and the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: In this study, 510 134 participants from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) were included after excluding those who reported to had been diagnosed with cancer at baseline survey. The baseline survey was conducted from 2004 to 2008. The study used the data from the baseline survey and follow-up until December 31, 2016. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate the HR s and the 95 %CI s of risk of PD diagnosis with BMF. Results: During an average follow-up period of (9.9±1.9) years, 808 participants were diagnosed with PD. Compared with participants who had bowel movements every day, the multivariable-adjusted HR (95 %CI ) for those who had bowel movements<3 times/week, once every 2-3 days, and>1 time/day were 3.62 (2.88-4.54), 2.13 (1.74-2.60), and 0.81 (0.63-1.05), respectively. The linear trend test results of the association between BMF and risk of PD diagnosis was significant ( P <0.001). Compared with the participants who had bowel movements ≥1 time/day, the multivariable-adjusted HR (95 %CI ) for those who had bowel movements<1 time/day was 3.13 (2.32-4.23) within the 5 years of follow- up and was 2.48 (2.05-3.01) beyond the 5 years of follow-up. The gender specific results were similar. The association of BMF<1 time/day with risk of PD diagnosis was stronger in older participants. Conclusions: The participants with low BMF at baseline survey would have higher risk for PD diagnosis in the subsequent 10 years on average. Since abnormal decrease of BMF is easy to be found, programs could be set up for the early screening of PD in older people, along with other early symptoms of PD.

Background: Phosphatidylinositol-3,4,5-trisphosphate dependent Rac exchange factor 1 (PREX1) was reported to be overexpressed in some cancers and involved in cancer development, but its expression and significance in gastric cancer remain unclear., Aim: To evaluate the expression of PREX1 in gastric cancer and its significance in the development of gastric cancer, especially to evaluate the potential mechanism of PREX1 in gastric cancer., Methods: Bioinformatic analysis was performed in order to examine the expression of PREX1 in gastric cancer. The relationship between the survival rate of gastric cancer patients and PREX1 expression was assessed by Kaplan Meier portal. The Gene Set Enrichment Analysis and the correlation between PREX1 and transforming growth factor (TGF) β1 pathway-related mediators were evaluated by cBioPortal for Cancer Genomics. Western blotting and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction assay were used to test the role of TGFβ1 on the expression of PREX1. Western blotting and dual-luciferase reporter system was used to evaluate the effect of PREX1 on the activation of TGFβ1 pathway. Wound healing and Transwell assay were used to assess the effect of PREX1 on the metastasis activity of gastric cancer cells., Results: PREX1 was overexpressed in the gastric tumors, and the expression levels were positively associated with the development of gastric cancer. Also, the high expression of PREX1 revealed poor prognosis, especially for those advanced and specific intestinal gastric cancer patients. PREX1 was closely involved in the positive regulation of cell adhesion and positively correlated with TGFβ1-related mediators. Furthermore, TGFβ1 could induce the expression of PREX1 at both the protein and mRNA level. Also, PREX1 could activate the TGFβ1 pathway. The induced PREX1 could increase the migration and invasion activity of gastric cancer cells., Conclusion: PREX1 is overexpressed in gastric cancer, and the high level of PREX1 predicts poor prognosis. Objective: To improve the diagnosis and therapy of childhood pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) by analyzing the clinical features of this rare condition. Methods: A total of 8 pediatric patients (4 males, 4 females) with PTE diagnosed in the Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine from March, 2014 to March, 2019 were enrolled. The clinical manifestation, laboratory results, imaging findings, diagnosis and treatment were summarized. Results: Among these 8 cases, aged from 9 hours to 14 years and 10 months. Fever was found in 4 cases, cough aggravation in 4, short of breath in 3, chest pain in 2, abdominal and back pain in one, hemoptysis in 2, cyanosis in 1, and edema of lower extremities in 2. Physical examination found decreased breath sound in 2 cases, phlegm rale in 3, and pleural friction rub in one. Pleural effusion was found in 5 cases by ultrasound. Plasma D-dimer increased in 6 cases (0.66-9.96 mg/L) and hypersensitive C-reactive protein elevated in 5 cases (10.78-78.00 mg/L). Chest enhanced CT showed pulmonary artery or venous filling defects, including pulmonary artery embolism in 7 cases and pulmonary vein embolism in one. The primary disease of these patients included Mycoplasma Pneumoniae pneumonia in 4 cases, nephritis in 2 and postoperative congenital heart disease in 2. Apart from one case who withdrew the treatment and was discharged, the other 7 patients received anticoagulant treatment had good outcome. Conclusions: For children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia, immune disorders, long-term hormone therapy, cardiovascular invasive operation or other high-risk factors, PTE should be considered when fever, cough aggravation, short of breath, chest and back pain with pleural effusion are present. Chest enhanced CT scan should be performed as soon as possible, and anticoagulation should be started once the diagnosis is confirmed.

Obstructive foreign bodies are uncommon causes of bronchiectasis in children, the causal relationship between foreign body aspiration and bronchiectasis remains unclear. We conducted a review of children who were diagnosed with bronchiectasis due to foreign body retention in a university hospital between 2014 and 2019. Five patents were studied (four boys, one girl; age range: 15 months to 13 years old). Computed tomography showed localized cylindrical bronchiectasis in all five patients. After removal of the foreign body by bronchoscopy, the prognoses were good. Patients with localized cylindrical bronchiectasis should be examined to exclude foreign body. Objective: To assess the association of BMI and waist circumference (WC) with metabolic risk factors, and confirm the appropriate cut-off points of BMI and WC among Chinese adults. Methods: After excluding participants with missing or extreme measurement values, as well as individuals with self-reported histories of cancer, a total of 501 201 adults in baseline and 19 201 adults in the second re-survey from the China Kadoorie Biobank were included. The associations of BMI and WC with metabolic risk factors were estimated. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analyses were conducted to assess the appropriate cut-off values of BMI and WC to predict the risk of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and clustering of risk factors. Results: The prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and clustering of risk factors all presented ascending trends with the increasing levels of BMI or WC. Defined as the points on the ROC curve where Youden's index reached the highest, the appropriate overweight cut-off points of BMI were around 24.0 kg/m(2) both in men and women, and the points of WC were around 85 cm in men and 80 to 85 cm in women. With specificity 90 % for identification of risk factors, the appropriate obese cut-off points of BMI were around 28.0 kg/m(2) both in men and women, with the range of 27.0 to 28.9 kg/m(2). Conclusions: The cut-off points for overweight and obesity recommended by Coorperative Meta-analysis Group of China Obesity Task Force was verified in the large sample survey conducted more recently. The cut-off points of BMI were 24.0 and 28.0 kg/m(2) for overweight and obesity, and the cut-off point of WC was 85 cm in men and 80 to 85 cm in women for central obesity.

Objective: To examine the association of BMI with major chronic diseases morbidity and all-cause mortality in Chinese adults. Methods: This study is based on China Kadoorie Biobank. Anthropometric indexes were objectively measured at the baseline survey during 2004-2008. After excluding participants with heart disease, stroke, cancer, COPD and diabetes, 428 113 participants aged 30 to 79 years were included in the analysis. Cox regression models were used to investigate the associations of BMI and waist circumference with incidence of major chronic diseases (including cardiovascular disease, cancer, COPD, and type 2 diabetes) and all-cause mortality. Results: Over an average of 10 years, 131 454 participants developed any one of major chronic diseases. A total of 26 892 all-cause deaths were reported. The risk of major chronic diseases increased with BMI. Compared with normal BMI (18.5-24.0 kg/m(2)), the HR (95 %CI ) of overweight (BMI 24.0-28.0 kg/m(2)) and obesity (BMI≥28.0 kg/m(2)) were 1.26 (95 %CI: 1.24-1.27) and 1.59 (95 %CI: 1.57-1.62) respectively. Underweight and obesity were both associated with risk of all-cause mortality. Waist circumference was positively associated with risk of major chronic diseases and all-cause mortality. According to recommended cut-off points of BMI and waist circumference for Chinese adults, maintaining a healthy body weight would prevent 12 % incident cases of major chronic diseases. Conclusion: General and central obesity were risk factors for major chronic disease among Chinese adults.

An electrophilic thiocyano semipinacol rearrangement of allylic alcohols has been achieved for the first time by using N -thiocyano-dibenzenesulfonimide (NTSI). This approach provides a direct, simple, and efficient strategy for the formation of thiocyano carbonyl compounds with moderate to excellent yields. Meanwhile, an all-carbon quaternary center was rapidly constructed. In addition, an asymmetric version of this tandem reaction was preliminarily investigated.

A divergent strategy for the facile preparation of various enantioenriched phenylthio-substituted lactones was developed based on Lewis base/Brønsted acid co-catalyzed thiolation of homoallylic acids. The acid-controlled regiodivergent cyclization (6-endo vs. 5-exo) and acid-mediated stereoselective rearrangement of phenylthio-substituted lactones were explored. Experimental and computational studies were performed to clarify the origins of the regioselectivity and enantioselectivity. The calculation results suggest that C-O and C-S bond formation might occur simultaneously, without formation of a commonly supposed catalyst-coordinated thiiranium ion intermediate and the potential π-π stacking between substrate and SPh as an important factor in the enantio-determining step. Background: (Interleukin 17 Receptor Beta) IL17RB has been implicated in several malignancies. However, its role in the progression of and chemosensitivity in pancreatic cancer remains unknown. We aimed to determine the clinical significance of IL17RB expression in the prognosis of resectable pancreatic cancer and in the benefits from gemcitabine treatment., Materials and Methods: We used microarray and immunohistochemical staining techniques to evaluate IL17RB expression in 91 resectable pancreatic cancer tissues and their respective matched adjacent non-cancerous tissues. Quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting were used to evaluate IL17RB in human pancreatic cancer cell lines after gemcitabine treatment. The correlation between IL17RB expression and overall survival and disease-free survival times were analyzed., Results: IL17RB expression correlated with lymph node metastasis and (Vascular endothelial growth factor) VEGF expression. Cox proportional model showed that high IL17RB expression is a significant negative prognostic factor for both (overall survival) OS and (disease-free survival) DFS. Kaplan-Meier survival curves confirmed significantly reduced median overall and DFS time in high IL17RB patients as compared with low IL17RB patients. Furthermore, Cox proportional model confirmed a correlation between adjuvant treatment with gemcitabine-based chemotherapy and IL17RB expression. Kaplan-Meier survival curves showed that low IL17RB expression was associated with longer OS and DFS in patients than high IL17RB expression and gemcitabine-based adjuvant chemotherapy. In human pancreatic cancer cell lines, the messenger RNA and protein levels of IL17RB were significantly enhanced after gemcitabine treatment., Conclusions: IL17RB predicts the prognosis and benefit from gemcitabine in patients with resectable pancreatic cancer., (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier GmbH. Background: Plasmodium falciparum apical membrane antigen-1 (PfAMA-1) is a promising candidate antigen for a blood-stage malaria vaccine. However, antigenic variation and diversity of PfAMA-1 are still major problems to design a universal malaria vaccine based on this antigen, especially against domain I (DI). Detail understanding of the PfAMA-1 gene polymorphism can provide useful information on this potential vaccine component. Here, general characteristics of genetic structure and the effect of natural selection of DIs among Bioko P. falciparum isolates were analysed., Methods: 214 blood samples were collected from Bioko Island patients with P. falciparum malaria between 2011 and 2017. A fragment spanning DI of PfAMA-1 was amplified by nested polymerase chain reaction and sequenced. Polymorphic characteristics and the effect of natural selection were analysed using MEGA 5.0, DnaSP 6.0 and Popart programs. Genetic diversity in 576 global PfAMA-1 DIs were also analysed. Protein function prediction of new amino acid mutation sites was performed using PolyPhen-2 program., Results: 131 different haplotypes of PfAMA-1 were identified in 214 Bioko Island P. falciparum isolates. Most amino acid changes identified on Bioko Island were found in C1L. 32 amino acid changes identified in PfAMA-1 sequences from Bioko Island were found in predicted RBC-binding sites, B cell epitopes or IUR regions. Overall patterns of amino acid changes of Bioko PfAMA-1 DIs were similar to those in global PfAMA-1 isolates. Differential amino acid substitution frequencies were observed for samples from different geographical regions. Eight new amino acid changes of Bioko island isolates were also identified and their three-dimensional protein structural consequences were predicted. Evidence for natural selection and recombination event were observed in global isolates., Conclusions: Patterns of nucleotide diversity and amino acid polymorphisms of Bioko Island isolates were similar to those of global PfAMA-1 DIs. Balancing natural selection across DIs might play a major role in generating genetic diversity in global isolates. Most amino acid changes in DIs occurred in predicted B-cell epitopes. Novel sites mapped on a three dimensional structure of PfAMA-1 showed that these regions were located at the corner. These results may provide significant value in the design of a malaria vaccine based on this antigen.

In this paper, a band-pass filter based on half-mode substrate integrated waveguide (HMSIW) and double-layer spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPPs) consisting of two corrugated metal strips is proposed, which can realize band-pass transmission by etching periodic grooves at the top and bottom metal layers of the HMSIW. Moreover, the influences of important parameters on the performance of the proposed band-pass filter are analyzed by parametric study. By changing the key parameters, the low and high cut-off frequency can be controlled independently. The corresponding equivalent circuit of the proposed band-pass filter is put forward to explain the physical mechanism. Compared with the previous structures, this structure features smaller size, wider bandwidth and lower loss. Simulated results show that the proposed band-pass filter achieves a bandwidth (for |S 11 | < -10 dB and |S 21 | > -0.8 dB) of about 69.77% (15.6-32.1 GHz). The measured results have good agreements with the simulated ones, which verify that the proposed band-pass filter has good performances and potential applications at the microwave frequencies.

An enantioselective sulfenylation/semipinacol rearrangement of 1,1-disubstituted and trisubstituted allylic alcohols was accomplished with a chiral Lewis base and a chiral Brønsted acid as cocatalysts, generating various β-arylthio ketones bearing an all-carbon quaternary center in moderate to excellent yields and excellent enantioselectivities. These chiral arylthio ketone products are common intermediates with many applications, for example, in the design of new chiral catalysts/ligands and the total synthesis of natural products. Computational studies (DFT calculations) were carried out to explain the enantioselectivity and the role of the chiral Brønsted acid. Aims/introduction: Evidence has shown that stressful life events are associated with the development of diabetes, yet studies in mainland China are scarce. In the present study, we explored the associations between cumulative and specific stressful life events and the prevalence of diabetes in Chinese adults., Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional data were from the China Kadoorie Biobank study, which enrolled approximately 500,000 adults aged 30-79 years from 10 diverse regions of China. Logistic regression models were used to calculate the adjusted odds ratio (OR) and the 95% confidence interval (CI)., Results: Of the 473,607 participants, 25,301 (5.34%) had type 2 diabetes (2.68% clinically-identified and 2.66% screen-detected). Participants who experienced one and two or more stressful life events were 1.10-fold (OR 1.10, 95% CI 1.05-1.16) and 1.33-fold (OR 1.33, 95% CI 1.13-1.57) more likely to have type 2 diabetes. Three categories of work-related events (OR 1.15, 95% CI 1.01-1.31), as well as family-related events (OR 1.11, 95% CI 1.06-1.18) and personal-related events (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.03-1.36), were associated with an increased likelihood of type 2 diabetes. Regarding the specific life events, the ORs of loss of job or retirement, as well as major conflict within family, death or major illness of other close family member and major injury or traffic accident, were 1.24 (95% CI 1.02-1.52), 1.24 (95% CI 1.08-1.43), 1.13 (95% CI 1.06-1.20) and 1.20 (95% CI 1.01-1.43), respectively., Conclusions: The present study showed that cumulative and specific stressful life events were significantly associated with an increased prevalence of diabetes., (© 2019 The Authors. Background and Objective: Macrolides are the recommended antibiotics for treating pertussis and preventing transmission. The causative bacterium, Bordetella pertussis, has high macrolide resistance and has recently circulated in China. The objective of this study was to find effective alternative antibiotics for treatment by assessing the in vitro activity and clinical efficacy of antibiotics against Bordetella pertussis., Methods: Bordetella pertussis was confirmed by agglutination with specific antisera and mass spectrometry. The MICs of antibiotics against isolates were determined using the Etest method. Treatment outcomes were clinically and microbiologically evaluated., Results: A total of 126 pertussis patients were diagnosed based on culture, 69.8% of whom were aged ≤6 months and 72.1% were treated with previous macrolides. Leucocytosis and lymphocytosis were observed in 29.4% and 54.8% of all patients, respectively. Both MIC 50 and MIC 90 of erythromycin, azithromycin, and clindamycin were >256mg/L, and 75.4% were highly macrolide resistant. The MIC 90 of trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam, cefuroxime, ceftriaxone and cefoperazone-sulbactam were 0.38mg/L, 0.25mg/L, 0.19mg/L, 12mg/L, 0.19mg/L and 0.047mg/L, respectively. The MICs of piperacillin in all of the isolations were <0.016mg/L. Of the patients treated with single cefoperazone-sulbactam or piperacillin-tazobactam, 30 of 32 (93.8%) had significantly improved clinical symptoms and 24 of 25 (96%) had negative culture results after 2 weeks of therapy., Conclusion: Macrolide resistance in Bordetella pertussis is a serious problem in Zhejiang Province, China. Piperacillin/piperacillin-tazobactam and cefoperazone-sulbactam have potent antibacterial activity in vitro and in vivo, and may become the alternative choice for treating pertussis caused by macrolide-resistant isolates., (Copyright © 2019 International Society for Chemotherapy of Infection and Cancer. An efficient method for the preparation of chiral sulfenylated lactones has been described based on Lewis base-catalyzed enantioselective sulfenylation of unsaturated carboxylic acids. The scope of this method includes two enantioselective cyclization reactions: 5-endo and 6-exo thiolactonizations of alkenes. Two types of lactones were obtained with up to 95% ee and 99% yield. Additionally, this methodology has been applied in the formal syntheses of bioactive natural products (-)-nicotlactone B and (-)-galbacin.

Objective: To describe the characteristics of habitual snoring among adults from 10 regions engaged in the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) study. Methods: The baseline survey of CKB was conducted from 2004 to 2008. Data was collected regarding the information on socio- demographic characteristics, lifestyle, sleeping habits, and results from the physical examination of the participants. Logistic regression models were used to compare the regional differences and to estimate the associations of other baseline characteristics on snoring habit. Results: A total of 512 713 participants were included in this study. The overall prevalence of habitual snoring was 21.2%, higher among men, in south regions and urban areas, but no difference observed among people with different socioeconomic status after adjusting for age, regions, BMI, waist circumference or lifestyle factors. Results showed that the prevalence of habitual snoring under the multivariable adjusted model increased among current and ever smokers, also among current and ever alcohol consumers. The risk of habitual snoring was increased by 19% per 1 kg/m(2) and 6% per 1 cm increment in BMI or waist circumference, respectively. Among participants with similar BMI, central obese individuals were more likely to be habitual snorers. For individuals with similar waist circumference, the prevalence of habitual snoring was higher among those with higher BMI. Conclusion: The prevalence of habitual snoring varied across regions. Substantial differences in habitual snoring were also seen among people with different lifestyles and body sizes.

A series of Y-shaped sensitizers incorporating quinoxaline or quinoxalinoid moieties were prepared and applied in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). By the introduction of quinoxalinoid functionalities, the absorption extinction coefficients could be enhanced. The molecular structures were modified by introducing an extra acceptor group (A) between a donor (D) and a π-bridge (D-A-π-A) and also by incorporating electron-donating substituents at various positions of the quinoxalinoid moiety. Some of the dyes and mixtures thereof were found to exhibit good light-harvesting efficiencies under both sunlight and indoor light, with efficiencies up to 7.92 % under one sun (AM 1.5G). When operated under indoor light, the efficiency could be boosted to 27.76, 28.74, and 30.45 % under 600, 1000, 2500 lux illumination, respectively. A novel chiral 1,5-N,N-bidentate ligand based on a spirocyclic pyrrolidine oxazoline backbone was designed and prepared, and it coordinates CuBr in situ to form an unprecedented catalyst that enables efficient oxidative cross-coupling of 2-naphthols. Air serves as an external oxidant and generates a series of C 1 -symmetric chiral BINOL derivatives with high enantioselectivity (up to 99 % ee) and good yield (up to 87 %). This approach is tolerant of a broader substrates scope, particularly substrates bearing various 3- and 3'-substituents. Objective: To compare the characteristics of Mycoplasma pneumoniae necrotizing pneumonia (MPNP) and bacterial necrotizing pneumonia (BNP), and explore the biomarkers for differentiation of MPNP from BNP. Methods: A retrospective, observational study of 52 necrotizing pneumonia (NP) cases who were hospitalized in our hospital from January 2008 to December 2017 was conducted. According to the pathogen causing NP, patients were divided into two groups, BNP and MPNP, and the clinical manifestations, laboratory data, imaging findings, hospital course and prognosis between these groups were analyzed. Results: This study enrolled 19 boys and 33 girls, and the median ages of patients were 4.4 (0.1-13.8) years old. Of the totally of 52 NP patients, 19 were in the BNP group (9 boys and 10 girls), 33 were in the MPNP group (10 boys and 23 girls). The mean age of MPNP patients was much older than that of BNP patients (5.2 (2.3-13.2) years vs. 1.8 (0.1-13.8) years, Z= -0.128, P <0.01). The number of patients with tachypnea and pleural effusion septation were significantly higher in BNP patients than those in MPNP patients (15 cases vs. 4 cases, χ(2)=23.222, P <0.01; 14 cases vs. 1 case, χ(2)=29.326, P <0.01), which more needed to oxygentherapy (18 cases vs. 12 cases, χ(2)=16.833, P <0.01) and undergo chest drainage (9 cases vs. 4 cases, χ(2)=5.829, P= 0.022); while the number of patients required bronchoalveolar lavage was higher in MPNP patients than that in BNP patients (5 cases vs. 32 cases, χ(2)=29.326, P <0.01). The values of white blood cell (WBC) (23.2 (5.2-67.1)×10(9)/L vs. 9.7 (6.3-18.7)×10(9)/L, Z= -4.855, P <0.01), procalcitonin (PCT) (3.69 (0.23-90.15) mg/L vs. 0.28 (0.02-1.44) mg/L, Z= -3.207, P= 0.001), C reactive protein (CRP) (160 (94-220) mg/L vs. 90 (5-134) mg/L, Z= -4.337, P <0.01), interleukin (IL)-10 (11.7 (4.2-401.5) ng/L vs. 4.8 (2.0-23.4) ng/L, Z= -2.278, P= 0.023), pleural fluid cell count (5 200 (120-50 000)×10(6)/L vs. 790 (68-6 920)×10(6)/L, Z= -3.125, P= 0.002), pleural fluid lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) (3 990 (589-29 382) U/L vs. 2 211 (673-3 993) U/L, Z= -2.488, P= 0.013) in BNP group were significantly higher than those in MPNP group; while the values of pleural fluid glucose(0.43 (0.03-18.00) mmol/L vs. 5.95 (4.27-7.87) mmol/L, Z= -2.795, P= 0.005), serum tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α (2.3 (1.0-2.8) ng/L vs. 2.6 (1.3-109.2) ng/L, Z= -2.113, P= 0.035) and interferon (IFN)-γ (4.8 (2.6-7.7) ng/L vs. 11.9 (2.9-154.6) ng/L, Z= -2.455, P= 0.014) were lower in BNP group than those in MPNP group. Meanwhile, the mean time from the onset of symptoms to the discovery of necrotic lesions was longer in MPNP group than that in BNP group ((20.6±6.4) days vs. (14.6±6.2) days, t= 3.029, P= 0.004). After treatments, all patients were discharged without death, WBC and PCT recovered more quickly in MPNP group than those in BNP group (12 (0-24) days vs. 0 (0-23) days, Z= -4.484, P <0.01; 10 (5-15) days vs. 0 (0-23) days, Z= -3.244, P= 0.001). As to prognosis, 34 cases were followed up, and the results showed that patients recovered without surgical intervention, and chest lesions were resolved within 3.0 (1.0-8.0) months, and the time to necrosis disappearance was similar in the BNP group and MPNP greup (3.0 (1.0-8.0) months vs. 3.0 (1.0-8.0) months, Z= -0.128, P= 0.001). In receiver operator characteristic curve analysis, the cut-off values for the age, WBC, CRP, PCT, pleural fluid cell count and pleural fluid glucose were set at 2.4 years of age, 17.2×10(9)/L, 157 mg/L, 1.505 mg/L, 2 630×10(6)/L and 3.73 mmol/L, respectively. Conclusions: NP is found to be severe and prolonged, yet, reversible through proper therapy, such as rational antibiotics application. The age, WBC, CRP, PCT, pleural fluid cell count and pleural fluid glucose could be used as biomarkers to differentiate MPNP from BNP in children.

Nonbiaryl N-C atropisomer is an important structural scaffold, which is present in natural products, medicines and chiral ligands. However the direct enantioselective C-H amination to access optically pure N-C atropisomer is still difficult and rare. Here we report a π-π interaction and dual H-bond concerted control strategy to develop the chiral phosphoric acids (CPAs) catalyzed direct intermolecular enantioselective C-H amination of N-aryl-2-naphthylamines with azodicarboxylates as amino sources for the construction of atroposelective naphthalene-1,2-diamines. This type of N-C atropisomers is stabilized by intramolecular hydrogen bond and the method features a broad range of substrates, high yields and ee values, providing a strategy to chirality transfer via the modification of N-C atropisomers.

Objective: To evaluate the correlation between alcohol consumption and obesity in adults in China. Methods: The information about alcohol consumption were collected at the baseline survey of the China Kadoorie Biobank. The general obesity and central obesity were defined by BMI and waist circumference (WC) respectively. Logistic regression model was employed to examine the relationship of drinking behavior with general obesity and central obesity. Results: A total of 249 873 adults were included. A J-shaped relationship was observed between alcohol consumption and obesity measurement index (BMI and WC) in men. Compared with non-drinkers, the proportion of general obesity and central obesity were lower in light drinkers (men: OR =0.65, 95 %CI : 0.59-0.71 and OR =0.93, 95 %CI : 0.88-0.98; women: OR =0.77, 95 %CI : 0.65-0.91 and OR =0.89, 95 %CI : 0.80-0.99). In men, the proportion of general obesity and central obesity was highest in heavy drinkers ( OR =1.21, 95 %CI : 1.12-1.32; OR =1.33, 95 %CI : 1.27-1.40). BMI and WC were higher in those with a drinking frequency of 3-5 d/week, with largest of proportion of central obesity (men: OR =1.23, 95 %CI : 1.16-1.31; women: OR =1.13, 95 %CI : 0.99-1.28). The risk for central obesity in men who began drinking every week before 20 years old was 1.24 times higher than non-drinkers (95 %CI : 1.16-1.33). Those who drank beer had lower proportion of general obesity (men: OR =0.74, 95 %CI : 0.67-0.82; women: OR =0.54, 95 %CI : 0.43-0.68). Conclusion: The proportion of obesity was lower in light drinkers but higher in heavy drinkers; and the earlier drinking started, the higher the risk for obesity was.

Numerous electrophilic thiocyano oxyfunctionalization reactions of alkenes have been achieved using N-thiocyano-dibenzenesulfonimide, which is a new electrophilic thiocyanation reagent and could be easily prepared in two steps from dibenzenesulfonimide. This approach provides efficient, simple, and modular methods for the formation of SCN-containing heterocycles such as lactones, tetrahydrofurans, dihydrofurans, and dihydrobenzofurans in moderate to excellent yields. Meanwhile, diverse oxa-quaternary centers were rapidly constructed. Additionally, this protocol is free of transition metals and features broad substrate toleraance and mild reaction conditions.

Objective: To investigate whether Ershen Pill (ESP, ) could alleviate the symptom of Pi (Spleen)-Shen (Kidney) yang deficiency (PSYD)-induced diarrhea in rat model and explore its anti-diarrhea mechanism., Methods: Seventy-five Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups by a random number table, including control, positive, model, low-dose (LD) and high-dose (HD) ESP groups, 15 rats in each group. All the rats, except those in the control group, were developed PSYD induced-diarrhea based on its pathology and etiology. The rats in positive, LD and HD ESP groups were treated with Shenling Baizhu Pill (), LD (1.05 g/kg) or HD (3.50 g/kg) ESP petroleum ether extract once a day for 2 weeks, respectively. Body weight change and diarrhea index were measured. The histology scores of the kidney were evaluated via hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Aquaporin-3 (AQP3) expression in the colon was analyzed by immunofluorescence, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) and Western blot, respectively., Results: Compared with the model group, oral administration of LD and HD ESP prevented body weight loss and inhibited diarrhea after 2-week treatment (P<0.05). Kidney deterioration was impeded, and the histology score in LD and HD ESP groups were 8.2 and 10.5, respectively, which were both higher than those in the model group (P<0.05). In addition, ESP treatment alleviated rat colitis, and HD ESP significantly improved the AQP3 positive staining intensity in the colon tissue compared with the model group. The result from Western blot revealed that AQP3 protein synthesis in colon tissue of LD and HD ESP groups increased by 2.1- and 5.9-fold compared with the model group (P<0.05). qRT-PCR result showed that AQP3 gene expression in the HD ESP group was also up-regulated by 2.5-fold normalized to the model group (P<0.05)., Conclusion: ESP extract effectively alleviates the symptoms of PSYD and relieves PSYD-induced diarrhea by improving AQP3 synthesis in the colon.

Electrically heated electrodes have been applied for various chemical and biological sensors. However, previous electrically heated electrodes, including microwires and microdiscs, are usually small and often suffer from the requirement of frequent calibrations of the electrode surface temperature ( T s ) at different environment temperatures. Here, we fabricate a temperature-controllable disk electrode (TCDE) with a conventional size (3-5 mm in diameter). A one-parameter temperature calibration is proposed using a temperature transfer coefficient α and a structural model ( T s = T e + α ( T h - T e )) to estimate T s ( T h and T e are the temperature of the heating element and environment, respectively). The value of α is unique for a TCDE and mainly dependent on the structure and materials of the electrodes and the solution in nature. Once α is experimentally determined, T s can be calibrated and found to be applicable to wide fluctuations in room temperature (15.0-33.0 °C) with errors below 1.5% for three types of disk electrodes (gold, glassy carbon, and platinum). The required T s can be obtained by just setting T h without thermal characterization between the heating power and T s . A simple relationship for exploring the dependence of α on the height ( H) and radius ( R) of the electrode materials and other constants ( a, b, c, and R 0 ), α = 1 - c - aH - b ( R - R 0 ) 2 , is revealed by numerical simulations (COMSOL). The impact of the radii of both the insulating materials of the electrode and the electrochemical cells on T s is also considered. The effect of the solution thermal conductivity on α is studied. TCDEs are expected to be used as a sensor platform with enhanced performance.

A regioselective and enantioselective palladium-catalyzed relay Heck alkenylation of alkenylbenzene derivatives to construct remote stereocenters is disclosed. Various β-substituted styrenes were readily obtained in moderate yields with good to excellent levels of enantioselectivity. This strategy provides rapid access to enantioenriched δ, ε, ζ, and η-alkenyl aryl compounds from simple starting materials. Mitogen- and stress-activated kinase (MSK) 1 is a nuclear serine/threonine kinase. In the central nervous system, it plays an important role in regulating cell proliferation and neuronal survival; it is also involved in astrocyte inflammation and the inhibition of inflammatory cytokine production. However, its specific role in spinal cord injury is not clear. Here, we aimed to elucidate this role using an in vivo animal model. In this study, we found that MSK1 is gradually decreased, starting 1 day after spinal cord injury and to its lowest level 3 days post-injury, after which it gradually increased. To further investigate the possible function of MSK1 in spinal cord injury, we interfered with its expression by utilizing a small interfering RNA (siRNA)-encoding lentivirus, which was injected into the injured spinal cord to inhibit local expression. After MSK1 inhibition, we found that the expression of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1β were increased. Moreover, the expression of IL-10 was decreased. In addition, neuronal apoptotic cells were increased significantly and expression of the apoptosis-related protein caspase-3 was also increased. Ultrastructural analysis of nerve cells also revealed typical neuronal apoptosis and severe neuronal damage. Finally, we found that hindlimb motor function decreased significantly with MSK1 knockdown. Therefore, our findings suggest that the inhibition of this protein promotes inflammatory responses and apoptosis and suppresses functional recovery after spinal cord injury. MSK1 might thus play an important role in repair after spinal cord injury by regulating inflammation and apoptosis.

Objective: To understand the fruit consumption of adults of Qingdao and examine the association between fruit consumption and stroke. Methods: We analyzed baseline data and stroke incidence of the participants who were aged 30-79 years and had been enrolled into the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) study from Qingdao city. Cox proportional hazards regression model was conducted to estimate the association of fruit consumption with risk of stroke. Results: A total of 35 509 participants were investgated in the baseline survey. Ratio of male to female was 1∶1.27, and the average age was (50.3±10.2) years. Respondents with higher frequency of fruit consumption were younger, more women, with higher education level and higher income ( P <0.05). A total of 1 011 new cases of stroke were observed, with a stroke incidence of 387.63/100 000 person-years. Multivariate Cox regression analysis showed that fruit consumption had a protective effect on stroke incidence. Compared to the respondents who never consumed fruit, respondents who consumed fruit more than 4 days per week had a 44% lower risk of stroke incidence ( HR =0.56, 95 %CI : 0.50-0.62, P <0.05), and the risk reduced by 46% ( HR =0.54, 95 %CI : 0.46-0.64, P <0.05) and 42% ( HR =0.58, 95 %CI : 0.52-0.69, P <0.05) in male and female, respectively. Further adjustment for WC, BMI, SBP and random blood glucose did not change the association. Conclusion: Increasing fruit consumption can effectively decrease the risk of stroke. People should increase fruit consumption advisably to set up reasonable and healthy dietary habits.

The first examples of electrochemical trifluoromethylation and sulfonylation/semipinacol rearrangements of allylic alcohols were developed using cheap and stable RSO 2 Na (R = CF 3 , Ph) as reagents. Various β-trifluoromethyl and sulfonated ketones were obtained in moderate to excellent yields. This strategy provides a facile, direct, and complementary approach to construct all-carbon quaternary stereocenters. In addition, the reaction has the advantages of being chemical oxidant-free and metal-free and has safe and mild reaction conditions.

Objective: To describe the regional and population-related differences in skeletal muscle mass and handgrip strength across the 10 regions of China. Methods: 24 533 participants aged 38-88 years from the second resurvey of China Kadoorie Biobank were included in our analyses. Appendicular and trunk skeletal muscle mass were assessed using the bioelectrical impedance analysis (TANITA). Handgrip strength was measured using Jamar hand-held dynamometer. Low muscle mass and low muscle strength were defined as the lowest quintile of height-adjusted appendicular muscle mass or handgrip strength according to the Consensus Report of the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. We analyzed the mean value of absolute muscle mass, height-adjusted muscle mass, weight-adjusted muscle mass and handgrip strength. We also reported the prevalence of low muscle mass and low muscle strength. Results: The average appendicular and total skeletal muscle mass were (22.0±0.02) kg and (49.7±0.05) kg in men, which were higher than in women [(15.9±0.02) kg and (37.2±0.04) kg, respectively]. The handgrip strength was (32.6±0.06) kg in men, which was higher than (19.9±0.05) kg in women. The absolute muscle mass was higher in north area and urban region ( P <0.001). The weight-adjusted muscle mass showed reverse patterns of regional difference compared with height-adjusted muscle mass. Both muscle mass and handgrip strength decreased by age (trend P <0.001), with a larger decline observed in handgrip strength. According to AWGS criteria, the proportions of low muscle mass and strength increased by age. Among participants over 80 years old, the prevalence of low muscle mass and strength were 56.2 % and 74.5 % in men, and 35.7 % and 66.0 % in women. Conclusions: Levels of skeletal muscle mass and strength varied greatly among people from 10 regions and among participants with different demographic characteristics. The prevalence of low muscle mass and strength was extremely high in elderly.

β-Casomorphin is an opioid-like bioactive peptide derived from β-casein of milk that plays a crucial role in modulating animal's feed intake, growth, nutrient utilization and immunity. However, the effect of β-casomorphin on lipid metabolism in chickens and its mechanism remain unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of β-casomorphin on fat deposition in broiler chickens and explore its mechanism of action. A total of 120 21-day-old Arbor Acres male broilers (747.94±8.85 g) was chosen and randomly divided into four groups with six replicates of five birds per replicate. Three groups of broilers were injected with 0.1, 0.5 or 1.0 mg/kg BW of β-casomorphin in 1 ml saline for 7 days, whereas the control group received 1 ml saline only. The results showed that subcutaneous administration of β-casomorphin to broiler chickens increased average daily gain, average daily feed intake and fat deposition, and decreased feed : gain ratio (P&lt;0.05). The activity of malate dehydrogenase in the pectoral muscle, liver and abdominal adipose tissue was also increased along with the concentrations of insulin, very-low-density lipoprotein and triglyceride in the plasma (P&lt;0.05). The activity of hormone-sensitive lipase in the liver and abdominal adipose tissue and the concentration of glucagon in the plasma were decreased by injection with β-casomorphin (P&lt;0.05). Affymetrix gene chip analysis revealed that administering 1.0 mg/kg BW β-casomorphin caused differential expression of 168 genes in the liver with a minimum of fourfold difference. Of those, 37 genes are directly involved in lipid metabolism with 18 up-regulated genes such as very low density lipoprotein receptor gene and fatty acid synthase gene, and 19 down-regulated genes such as lipoprotein lipase gene and low density lipoprotein receptor gene. In conclusion, β-casomorphin increased growth performance and fat deposition of broilers. Regulation of fat deposition by β-casomorphin appears to take place through changes in hormone secretion and enzyme activities by controlling the gene expression of lipid metabolism and feed intake, increasing fat synthesis and deposition.

The complete sequence of a novel RNA virus isolated from Tetrastichus brontispae (TbRV-1) was determined to be 12,239 nucleotides in length with five non-overlapping, linearly arranged coding sequences (CDS), potentially encoding nucleoproteins, hypothetical proteins, matrix proteins, glycoproteins, and RNA-dependent RNA polymerases. Sequence analysis indicated that the RNA-dependent RNA polymerase of TbRV-1 shares a 65% nucleotide and 67% amino acid sequence identity with Hubei dimarhabdovirus 2, suggesting that TbRV-1 is a member of the dimarhabdovirus supergroup. This corresponded to the result of the phylogenetic analysis. The affiliation of TbRV-1 with members of the family Rhabdoviridae was further validated by similar transcription termination motifs (GGAACUUUUUUU) to the Drosophila sigmavirus. The prevalence of TbRV-1 in all tissues suggested that the virus was constitutive of, and not specific to, any wasp tissue. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the complete genome sequence of a dimarhabdovirus in parasitoids.

This study was designed to investigate the potential role of microRNA-29c (miR-29c) in biliary atresia-related fibrosis. The expression of miR-29c was determined in 15 pairs of peripheral blood samples from infants with biliary atresia (BA) and infants with non-BA neonatal cholestasis using quantitative real-time PCR. EMT was established by induction with TGF-β1 in HIBEpiC cells. MiR-29c was inhibited by lipofectamine transfection. The expressions of proteins related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), i.e., E-cadherin, N-cadherin and vimentin, were determined using quantitative real-time PCR and western blotting. Direct interaction between miR-29c and DNMT3A and DNMT3B was identified using a luciferase reporter assay. The expressions of DNMT3A and DNMT3B were suppressed by treatment with SGI-1027. Patients with BA showed significantly lower miR-29c levels in peripheral blood samples than the control subjects. In vitro, TGF-β1-induced EMT significantly decreased the expression of miR-29c. Downregulation of miR-29c had a promotional effect on BA-related fibrosis in HIBEpiC cells, as confirmed by the decrease in E-cadherin and increase in N-cadherin and vimentin levels. MiR-29c was found to target the 3'UTR of DNMT3A and DNMT3B and inhibit their expression. Suppression of DNMT3A and DNMT3B reversed the effects of miR-29c downregulation on BA-related fibrosis in HIBEpiC cells. These data suggest that BA-related fibrosis is closely associated with the occurrence of EMT in HIBEpiC cells. Objective: To invstigate the influence of femoral neck area on larger anteversion angle of lag screw guide pin initial placement in proximal femoral intertrochanteric fracture treated with intramedullary nail., Methods: From June 2014 to June 2016, 60 patients with femoral intertrochanteric fractures were treated with intramedullary nail, including 27 males and 33 females with an average age of 75 years old ranging from 49 to 88 years old. The lateral images of femoral neck were divided into areas during operation. The anteversion angle of lag screw guide pin of proximal femoral nail was observed at the time of initial insertion. The incidence of normal and larger was counted and the angle index of influencing factors was recorded., Results: Among 60 patients, the screw guide pins of 23 cases were in the central region of the femoral neck and the anteversion angle was normal;screw guide pins of 37 cases were in the front area of the femoral neck, leading to larger anteversion angle. The single factor analysis showed that the independent variables influence factors of larger anteversion were internal collection of the affected limb, internal rotation of the affected limb, hip elevation and screw guide pin level( P <0.05). The multi-factor regression analysis showed that the anteversion angle larger was significantly related to the internal rotation of the affected limb and screw guide pin level, and the screw guide pin level was the most relevant( P =0.030)., Conclusions: The internal rotation of the affected limb and screw guide pin level may affect the anteversion angle of femoral neck when lag screw guide pin initial insertion, cause it to be too large and the screw guide pin level is the main influencing factor., Competing Interests: The authors of this article and the planning committee members and staff have no relevant financial relationships with commercial interests to disclose., (Copyright© 2019 by the China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Press.)

Ectropis grisescens Warren 1894 (Lepidopotera: Geometridae) and Ectropis obliqua Prout 1915 (Lepidopotera: Geometridae) are the most destructive chewing pests in China's tea plantations. Ectropis grisescens sex pheromone lures and E. obliqua nucleopolyhedrosis virus (EoNPV) are two species-specific and effective bio-control technologies to control these pests. Because these two species are morphologically similar, tea growers are unable to discriminate them by visual inspection. Hence, determining whether to use E. grisescens sex pheromone lures or EoNPV is difficult without knowledge on the geographical distribution of these two Ectropis species in China. In this study, we developed an efficient identification method, which is considerably cheaper and faster than sequencing the cytochrome c oxidase I gene. Overall, 2,588 E. grisescens and E. obliqua samples, collected from 13 provinces and municipalities in China covering the major regions where these pests have been reported, were identified. All insect samples from southern Jiangsu Province were identified as E. obliqua. Both Ectropis species were mix-distributed at the Anhui-Zhejiang Province border areas, whereas E. grisescens was mostly collected from the other sampling sites. Thus, E. obliqua might be mainly distributed at the junction of Jiangsu, Anhui, and Zhejiang Provinces. In contrast, E. grisescens has a considerably wide distribution area and is the main lepidopteran pest in the tea plantations of China. Our results contribute to improve the management of E. grisescens and E. obliqua populations and provide new insights for further studies on these two species.
