Simple Summary: Simple Summary: Due to limited availability, fluctuating prices, and sustainability concerns, the aquaculture sector is increasingly replacing fish oil with vegetable oil in aquafeeds. To comprehensively explore the dependence of growth performance and omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (n-3 LC-PUFA) composition on dietary n-3 LC-PUFA levels in cultured fish with varying feeding habits (herbivorous, omnivorous, and carnivorous) and habitats (marine and freshwater), we employed a Bayesian meta-analysis to quantitatively analyze data from 81 selected studies. This novel approach allowed us to show to what extent the growth performance and n-3 LC-PUFA tissue levels of freshwater and herbivorous fish exhibit higher tolerance than marine and carnivorous fish to reduced amounts of dietary n-3 LC-PUFA levels. The results of this study can help optimize the use of fish oil in aquafeeds and contribute to the development of more sustainable aquaculture practices. While comprehensive narrative reviews on the impact of substituting fish oil with vegetable oil in aquafeeds exist, quantitative studies are relatively scarce and mainly focused on comparing the source of vegetable oils. Herein, we employed, for the first time, a Bayesian meta-analysis approach, collecting research data from 81 articles to quantitatively analyze the effects of dietary n-3 LC-PUFA levels on the n-3 LC-PUFA composition and growth performance in cultured fish. Our findings indicate that with the exception of herbivorous fish, dietary n-3 LC-PUFA levels significantly affect the EPA and DHA levels in the livers and muscles of carnivorous, omnivorous, freshwater, and marine fish. Inspired by our finding that metallic Ni particles could be uniformly distributed on a reduced CeO2 surface and stabilized on Ce3+ sites, we suppose a possible improvement in the activity and selectivity of the MgNi/SiO2 vegetable oil hydrogenation catalyst by increasing the surface metal Ni availability via modification by ceria. The proposed approach involved the addition of a CeO2 modifier to the SiO2 carrier and as a catalyst component. Evaluation of the structure, reducibility, and surface and electronic states of the CeO2-doped MgNi/SiO2 catalyst was performed by means of the Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), Scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) combined with High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Temperature-programmed reduction with hydrogen (H2-TPR), and H2-chemisortion techniques. So far, no studies related to this approach of designing Ni/SiO2 catalysts for the partial hydrogenation of vegetable oil have been reported. The added ceria impact was elucidated by comparing fatty acid compositions obtained by the catalysts at an iodine value of 80. In summary, tuning the hydrogenation performance of Ni-based catalysts can be achieved by structural reconstruction using 1 wt.% CeO2. The introduction mode changed the selectivity towards C18:1-cis and C18:0 fatty acids by applying ceria as a carrier modifier, while hydrogenation activity was improved upon ceria operation as the catalyst dopant. Annatto, obtained from the seeds of achiote (Bixa orellana L.), is a widely used orange pigment rich in bixin and other apocarotenoids. This work reports the optimisation of a green extraction method of pigments and antioxidant compounds from achiote as well as its integration in a one-step green extraction-cosmetic formulation process. A biphasic solvent system of water and oil was used to recover simultaneously polar polyphenols, and less polar compounds, such as δ-tocotrienol and bixin. The optimisation of the ultrasound assisted extraction is presented, as well as a comparison of different vegetable oils used as extraction solvents. The composition, physicochemical properties and antioxidant activity of the oils were studied and their extraction performance was compared. Refined sunflower oil proved to be a better solvent than virgin olive, jojoba, coconut and grapeseed oils. Both aqueous and oil phases displayed an interesting antioxidant capacity. The oil phase contained 0.9% of bixin, as well as minor apocarotenoids and δ-tocotrienol. Twelve compounds, mainly phenolics, were identified by UHPLC-DAD-HRMS/MS in the aqueous phase. Twenty-one volatile compounds were identified in the volatile fraction by SPME-GC-MS. Extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO) is one of the most appreciated vegetable oils worldwide, but its high price makes it prone to suffer adulteration with lower quality oils. Therefore, it is important to have methodologies able to study EVOO composition as a whole in a simple and fast way, in order to guarantee its quality and safety. For this purpose, in this study, commercial samples of five Spanish olive cultivars (Arbequina, Arroniz, Cornicabra, Hojiblanca, Picual) were studied by Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy, using standard and multisuppression pulses. The aim was to explore the possibility of 1H NMR use to characterize in a single run and in a global way the composition of these monocultivar oils, regarding not only their main components (fatty acids supported on triglycerides) but also minor ones (squalene, sterols, diterpenic wax esters of phytol and geranylgeraniol, phenolic and secoiridoid derivatives, like tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, oleacein, oleocanthal, and lignans, among others, and aldehydes). The use of univariate and multivariate statistical analyses confirmed the presence of compositional features that were specific to some olive varieties. The Arbequina and Arroniz oils showed the most characteristic features that allowed for clearly differentiating them from the others. A protein mixture was prepared using a blend of soybean protein isolate, soybean protein concentrate, and wheat protein through high-moisture extrusion. This study investigated the effects of soybean oil/coconut oil additions (2%, 5%, and 8%) on the physiochemical properties of a soy protein–wheat protein mixture subjected to high-moisture extrusion. The protein extrudates underwent assessment for textural properties, fiber degree, sensory evaluation, microstructure, protein solubility, and protein secondary structure. The findings indicated that plant oils significantly reduced the hardness, springiness, and chewiness of the extrudates, and 5% plant oil significantly increased the fiber degree of the extrudates. In addition, the highest fiber degree and sensory evaluation score were achieved with 5% coconut oil. Observation of the macro- and microstructure indicated that the presence of unsaturated fatty acids in soybean oil did not benefit the improvement of the fibrous structure of protein extrudates during high-moisture extrusion processing. SDS-PAGE and FTIR results revealed that coconut oil, rich in saturated fatty acids, caused the clustering of medium- and low-molecular-weight subunits in texturized protein. Additionally, coconut oil elevated the ratio of 11S protein subunits containing sulfur-based amino acids and facilitated a shift from β-turn to β-sheet. The inclusion of plant oils increased the development of hydrogen and disulfide bonds, resulting in a denser, fibrous structure. Environmental constraints associated with fossil fuels have driven researchers to find a novel, potential and environmentally benign alternative fuel. Biodiesel, vegetable oil, and alcohol have gained rapid momentum thanks to their renewable nature and comparable energy contents in recent years. Accordingly, a Ternary fuel blend is prepared comprising three fuels namely diesel, biodiesel, and pentanol. Waste cooking oil was identified as the source for biodiesel and Pentanol was chosen among various alcohol alternatives due to improved energy density, reduced toxicity. These are endorsed to the enhancement in surface area-volume ratio of nano additives which boosts the catalytic combustion activity and also causing lesser fuel to take part in combustion for maintaining a constant engine speed. The experimentation is done with ternaryfuel blends with varying pentanol and biodiesel concentrations of diesel, biodiesel and pentanol). Upon experimentation, it was observed that, ternary fuel blend 'TF' comprising 70% diesel, 20% biodiesel and 10% pentanol, yielded best performance and was used for doping of Alumina oxide (Al2O3) nano additives. The Al2O3 nanoparticles were doped with ternary blends at fractions of 10 ppm, 20 ppm, and 30 ppm. It was observed that 20 ppm Al2O3 nanoparticle blended TF blend improved BTE and lowered BSFC by about 12.01% and 22.57% respectively. A healthy diet is at the forefront of measures to prevent type 2 diabetes. Certain vegetable and fish oils, such as pine nut oil (PNO), have been demonstrated to ameliorate the adverse metabolic effects of a high-fat diet. The present study investigates the involvement of the free fatty acid receptors 1 (FFAR1) and 4 (FFAR4) in the chronic activity of hydrolysed PNO (hPNO) on high-fat diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance. Male C57BL/6J wild-type, FFAR1 knockout (-/-) and FFAR4-/- mice were placed on 60 % high-fat diet for 3 months. Mice were then dosed hPNO for 24 d, during which time body composition, energy intake and expenditure, glucose tolerance and fasting plasma insulin, leptin and adiponectin were measured. hPNO improved glucose tolerance and decreased plasma insulin in the wild-type and FFAR1-/- mice, but not the FFAR4-/- mice. hPNO also decreased high-fat diet-induced body weight gain and fat mass, whilst increasing energy expenditure and plasma adiponectin. None of these effects on energy balance were statistically significant in FFAR4-/- mice, but it was not shown that they were significantly less than in wild-type mice. In conclusion, chronic hPNO supplementation reduces the metabolically detrimental effects of high-fat diet on obesity and insulin resistance in a manner that is dependent on the presence of FFAR4. Vegetable insulating oil, with advantages such as high safety and environmental friendliness, is a good substitute for traditional mineral oil. However, thermal failure is one of the important factors affecting the safe operation of oil-immersed electrical equipment. This study focuses on soybean vegetable oil as the research subject and establishes a simulation model for soybean insulating oil to investigate the influence of thermal stress at different temperatures ranging from 1000 K to 2000 K on system decomposition and gas generation characteristics. The results indicate that, under elevated temperatures, the decomposition of soybean vegetable insulating oil predominantly occurs through decarboxylation reactions, leading to the generation of CO2 and hydrocarbon radicals. The hydrocarbon radicals further decompose and react with other species, resulting in the formation of characteristic gases. It was observed that CO2 and C2H4 serve as stable thermal decomposition by-products. Increasing temperatures significantly enhance the generation rates of various characteristic products and broaden the variety of such products. For instance, H2 and CH4 are characteristic gases produced at different temperature ranges. Cesium lead halide (CsPbX3) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) have attracted attention for use as absorber materials in photovoltaics as they show tuneable bandgap energy and high photoluminescence quantum yields together with the potential to demonstrate long-term stability and simple solution processability. Currently, the colloidal synthesis of PQDs relies to a large extent on the use of toxic and fossil derived solvents as the reaction medium. Alternative methods that partially or completely replace such solvents are anticipated as a step forward in meeting the sustainability criteria for the large-scale synthesis of PQDs. Herein, we report an eco-friendly sonochemical-assisted synthesis of CsPbBr3 PQDs using commercial vegetable oil solvents as the reaction medium. The effect of different vegetable oils on the synthesis and properties of PQDs was investigated in detail. The as-prepared CsPbBr3 colloids show similar photoluminescence (PL) spectra and crystalline structure to colloids obtained in mineral oil, which was used here for comparative purposes. Furthermore, a smaller amount of the optically inactive Cs4PbBr6 hexagonal crystalline phase was detected in the green synthesis compared to mineral oil-based synthesis. Finally, spin-coated thin films were produced, demonstrating the processability of the colloidal PQDs obtained via the green synthesis described here. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Biodiesel, known as a renewable fuel, is an environmentally friendly energy source derived from animal and vegetable oils, as well as recycled oil. Despite this, the current advancements in biodiesel technology face challenges in fully replacing petrochemical diesel, primarily due to the non-green catalytic synthesis and high production cost associated with biodiesel. Ionic liquids containing strong Lewis acids or Brønsted acids have been highlighted as a novel class of environmentally friendly solvents and catalysts, showing green and effective catalytic potential in the synthesis of biodiesel via transesterification. In another aspect, reactive distillation technology could facilitate continuous forward reactions catalyzed by ionic liquids by swiftly removing reaction products from the reaction zone, offering advantages in improving the production efficiency, energy consumption, and cost reduction. From this perspective, we discuss the synthesis of biodiesel catalyzed by ionic liquids, supported ionic liquids, amphiphilic ionic liquids, and amphiphilic supported ionic liquids. The focus is on the process for synthesizing biodiesel through catalytic distillation. We emphasize the potential role of the lipophilic group in the ionic liquid catalyst, promoting the mutual solubility of the reactant triglyceride with methanol or ethanol. This enhancement might facilitate contact between the reactants and improve the catalytic efficiency of transesterification. Additionally, we propose several methods to improve the efficiency of biodiesel synthesis catalyzed by ionic liquid catalysts and suggest appropriate reactive distillation processes for biodiesel production. Background: Bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) is a fruiting shrub native to tropical and subtropical countries around the world and cultivated in many regions due to its nutraceutical value. The current study investigated the metabolic profiling and enzyme inhibitory activities of volatile constituents derived from the C. aurantium peel cultivated in Egypt by three different extraction methods. Methods: The volatile chemical constituents of the peel of C. aurantium were isolated using three methods; steam distillation (SD), hydrodistillation (HD), and microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAHD), and then were investigated by GC-MS. The antioxidant potential was evaluated by different assays such as DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, CUPRAC, and phosphomolybdenum and metal chelating potential. Moreover, the effect of enzyme inhibition of the three essential oils was tested using BChE, AChE, tyrosinase, glucosidase, as well as amylase assays. Results: A total of six compounds were detected by GC/MS analysis. The major constituent obtained by all three extraction methods was limonene (98.86% by SD, 98.68% by HD, and 99.23% by MAHD). Differences in the composition of the compounds of the three oils were observed. The hydrodistillation technique has yielded the highest number of compounds, notably two oxygenated monoterpenes: linalool (0.12%) and α-terpineol acetate (0.1%). Conclusion: In our study differences in the extraction methods of C. aurantium peel oils resulted in differences in the oils' chemical composition. Citrus essential oils and their components showed potential antioxidant, anticholinesterase, antimelanogenesis, and antidiabetic activities. The presence of linalool and α-terpineol acetate may explain the superior activity observed for the oil isolated by HD in both radical scavenging and AChE inhibition assays, as well as in the enzyme inhibition assays. The hydrogenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) in vegetable oils and their derivatives is essential for their use in many areas, such as biofuels and food chemistry. However, no attempts have been made to adapt this technology to the requirements of further chemical utilization of fatty acid methyl esters as molecular building blocks, especially for particularly promising double‐bond reactions. In this work, we, therefore, use three homogeneous catalytic model reactions (hydroformylation, isomerizing methoxycarbonylation, and ethenolysis) to show, firstly, that it is already known from the literature that high PUFA contents have a negative impact on activity and selectivity. Subsequently, using the example of soybean and canola biodiesel, we demonstrate that these key figures can be drastically improved by a preceding selective partial hydrogenation. This makes it possible to first reduce the share of PUFAs to <1 w % without causing significant overhydrogenation and then to carry out hydroformylation, methoxycarbonylation, and ethenolysis with significantly increased activity (up to twentyfold) and selectivity (up to 80 % increase). With these findings, we hope to convince the scientific and industrial world of the potential of selective partial hydrogenation as a key technology for utilizing renewable raw materials and to encourage its effective use in future work. Nutricereals, pearl millet flour consumption is hardly limited to a few specific regions of the world owing to the development of early rancidity on storage. Hot air assisted radio frequency technology (HARF) was used to improve the storage stability of pearl millet flour. Pearl millets at different moisture levels of 10.5±0.5, 12 & 15% were subjected to HARF for 5-, 10- & 15-min exposure period under fixed electrode position. The results revealed that significant reduction in peroxide value and free fatty acid values of flours from treated pearl millet was found compared to decorticated raw flour; thereby, the storage stability enhancement of pearl millet flour up to 180 days was achieved. No significant difference was found for emulsifying, foaming and cooking properties between treated pearl millet at 15% moisture, 15 min exposure and decorticated raw one. In contrast, the bulk density of flour from treated pearl millet was found higher. Significant increase in hardness of cooked grains after the treatment was observed while the springiness, cohesiveness and gumminess values did not vary. In FTIR analysis, no difference was observed between the peaks of whole and decorticated pearl millet flours in both untreated and treated samples. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The technological process of vegetable oil production requires significant energy costs, while the introduction of new technologies requires investment, which is a challenge for small and medium-sized enterprises in the current environment. This makes it important to introduce energy-efficient equipment in the conditions of these enterprises, which does not require significant investments. The article was concerned with improving the technological process of pressing oilseeds by introducing an energy-efficient oil press into the technological process and studying its structural and kinematic characteristics. In the context of the study, the determination of the physical and mechanical properties of raw materials, methods of theoretical mechanics and solid mechanics, calculation of structural elements of technological equipment for processing oilseeds were used. The necessity and expediency of theoretical analysis and experimental research are substantiated. The main regularities of oil separation from the crushed mass are determined. The study of physical and mechanical characteristics, size and weight parameters of seeds and crushed mass allowed to substantiate the main kinematic and design parameters of the screw press. The principle of operation of an energy-efficient screw oil press is described. The design of the press is improved by a steam sprayer installed in the receiving hopper under the threaded rollers, which is equipped with a steam generator, which makes it possible to carry out moisture-thermal treatment with steam within one device. The proposed constructive solution includes: determination of the coefficient of friction of seeds on an inclined plane, study of the components of the crushed mass obtained with the help of an energy-efficient oil press, and theoretical aspects of oilseed pressing. A study of the design and operating parameters of the screw press has been carried out, namely: determination of the screw press productivity, use of an energy-efficient press for oil separation makes it possible to improve the quality of the technological process, determination of the press power consumption and its efficiency. It has been concluded that the improved design solution of the press meets the modern requirements for oil production machines. The use of the proposed constructive solution will reduce oil losses during pressing, which will significantly increase the efficiency of the process, reduce operating costs and promote the development of oil production in small and medium-sized oilseed enterprises. Background: Owing to the highly contagious nature of SARS-CoV-2, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) among the healthcare workers (HCWs) is mandatory. However, PPE associated adverse effects are also there. Objective: To study the adverse effects associated with PPE and their preventive measures amongst the HCWs. Material and Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among 200 HCWs working in a Covid center of a tertiary care center. The participants were sent the questionnaires online. Some of them not having smart phones were interviewed telephonically. Their information profile, the various adverse effects associated with PPE, and the preventive measures being practiced by them were noted. Data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Total 97% HCWs reported adverse effects with hazmat suit; 96% with N 95 mask; 92% with goggle and 78% with gloves. The adverse effects associated with the prolonged use of the mask were erythema; erosions and scar at the nasal bridge; ear pain; difficulty in breathing; and headache. Sixty-seven percent of the participants had sweating with the use of gloves, which led to cutaneous exfoliation such as dry hands (55%) and skin itching (43%). Moisturizers and natural oils were used to prevent the dryness of hands. For the pressure related injury over the nasal bridge due to N95 mask, participants used to apply Band-Aid (adhesive bandage) and cotton dressing. Conclusion: Adverse skin reactions related to PPE are common among HCWs. Comprehensive assessment of the skin condition and awareness on adverse skin reactions should be advocated. Jojoba oil, which is extracted from jojoba plant seeds that are native to North America, possesses a unique molecular structure and is distinct from other oils. Unlike typical oils, which mostly contain triglycerides, jojoba oil is composed of long monounsaturated esters, affording it exceptional properties and is valuable across cosmetics, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals. While jojoba oil is prevalent in beauty and skincare today, its seeds and oil have ancient roots in folk medicine, used for treating skin and scalp issues, wounds, sore throats, obesity, and even cancer, while enhancing immunity and fostering hair growth. Modern research underscores jojoba oil's pharmacological versatility, demonstrating antioxidant, antidiabetic, anti-acne, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antibacterial properties. Notably, there has been a surge in its utilization in pharmaceuticals, particularly in topical, transdermal, and parenteral formulations. This review provides a comprehensive overview of jojoba oil, encompassing its chemical composition, extraction techniques, health advantages, and pharmaceutical application developments. Preservative systems based on vegetable seed oils and natural waxes from renewable sources may confer protection to wood under exposure to various environmental conditions. These, as non-toxic substances, can form an environmentally friendly and efficient protective layer on the wood surfaces, with beneficial effects on their water resistance and dimensional stability. Thus, these natural coatings may hinder biodegradation of wood products to a certain degree. In present paper, softwood samples (from Abies alba fir tree species), prepared as dried discs (25 to 30 mm diameter, 8 to 10 mm thickness), were surface impregnated by dipping using vegetable oils, namely Asclepias syriaca seed oil, and soybean oil, respectively. Beeswax treatment was also applied for comparison purposes. Surface chemistry and morphology, biodegradation process under controlled and simulated natural conditions, and water sorption behavior of wood samples were investigated. Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy methods were used for investigation of surface changes in wood samples before and after impregnation with natural based products, as well as under biodegradation conditions in soil burial tests. The paper presents a technology for producing base oil by oxidizing organosulfur compounds, contained in petroleum distillates and deasphaltisates, with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of vegetable (rapeseed and castor) oils, followed by extraction of oxidates and dewaxing of raffinates. Extraction of the resulting oxidized mixture (oxidate) was carried out with N-methylpyrrolidone. The content of rapeseed oil contained in the raffinate and extract was determined. The extract solution from a medium-viscosity oil distillate was cooled to obtain a secondary raffinate represented by a sulfoxide concentrate. The secondary raffinate was used as a base oil for producing a lubricant with high tribological properties for use in heavily loaded friction units. The rapeseed oil remained in the raffinate improves its viscosity index and lubricating properties. Summary: Whey and sunflower meals are primary by‐products of dairy cheese and vegetable oil production, respectively. Due to their widespread abundance, their valorisation could enable the generation of various value‐added food ingredients or products. In this study, an effort was made to utilise enzymatic pectinolysis along with other pre‐treatments to generate mixtures from whey and sunflower meal (SFM). The increasing presence of SFM increased the critical denaturation temperature of the mixtures and induced less protein structural changes. In addition, the presence of complex carbohydrates in SFM enhanced water and oil holding capacities. In general, pectinase and ultrasonication led to enhanced foaming of the mixtures, although the foams were relatively short‐lived. SFM inclusion limited foaming and emulsification capacities of the blends. In most cases, increasing the ratio of SFM to protein resulted in lower total reducing sugars (TRS), suggesting a more limited enzymatic activity. On the other hand, heating temperature or ultrasonication improved the extent of pectinolysis. Pre‐treatments and pectinolysis improved the functional properties of SFM and whey protein concentrate blends and are promising as an alternative protein source in new product applications. Essential oils (EOs) extracted from aromatic and medicinal plants have the potential to inhibit the growth of various pathogens and, thus, be useful in the control of dangerous diseases. The application of environmentally friendly approaches to protect agricultural and forestry ecosystems from invasive and hazardous species has become more significant in last decades. Therefore, the identification and characterization of essential oils with a strong inhibitory activity against aggressive and widespread pathogens are of key importance in plant protection research. The main purpose of our study is to evaluate the impact of essential oils originating from different genotypes of bee balm, mint, and marigold on Botrytis cinerea, Fusarium solani, and Phytophthora pseudocryptogea. Twelve essential oils, including five EOs originating from Monarda fistulosa, one oil each from Monarda russeliana, Mentha longifolia, Mentha piperita, Tagetes patula, and Tagetes erecta, and two EOs from Tagetes tenuifolia were derived by steam or water distillation. The chemical composition of the tested EOs was determined by GS-MS analyses and their corresponding chemotypes were identified. The most effective against all three pathogens were determined to be the EOs originating from M. fistulosa and M. russeliana. B. cinerea, and P. pseudocryptogea were also significantly affected by the M. piperita essential oil. Concerns about climate change and the reliance on fossil fuel reserves have motivated researchers to identify new renewable sources of energy. Biomass holds the potential to replace fossil‐derived products with biofuels and bio‐based chemicals. Plant‐derived lipids are promising sources of biofuels; however, the production of plant oil often leads to the release of massive amounts of carbon dioxide due to deforestation and land‐use change. The production of biofuels via plant oils (such as soybean) also competes with food production and in turn, impacts biodiversity. To mitigate these issues, the production of lipids from oleaginous yeasts could be an excellent alternative by incorporating these microbes into biorefineries utilizing agricultural or forest residues. Eventually, these microbial lipids could be potential sources for producing lipid‐derived biofuels. However, the current conventional methods for the production and recovery of lipids from oleaginous microbes suffer from economic and ecological challenges that affect its industrial‐scale expansion. This review highlights the major economic and environmental bottlenecks for the production of lipid‐derived biofuels from oleaginous yeasts. It also provides perspectives on the strategies that could be adapted on economic and ecological fronts to assist the expansion of the production of microbial lipid‐derived biofuels at an industrial scale. Concentrations and profiles of 15 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) priority Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) of six different edible oils consumed in Iran markets (oils of olive, sesame, coconut, sunflower, frying and blend oil) were studied. The evaluated edible oils in the present study have not previously been analyzed concerning their contents of PAH compounds. PAHs of 207 edible oil samples were determined and quantified by High-Performance Liquid Chromatography with Spectrofluorometric Detector (HPLC/FLD). The results revealed that the highest content of total PAHs was in coconut oil group (46.8 µg kg-1), followed by blend oil (22.48 µg kg-1), frying oil (20.67 µg kg-1), sesame oil (19.92 µg kg-1), olive oil (18.4 µg kg-1) and sunflower oil (17.6 µg kg-1). The light PAHs (Naphthalene, Acenaphtene, Phenantherern, Antrathene, and Fluorene) had the highest portion of PAHs concentration. Benzo[a]pyrene and PAH4 contents (Benz[a]anthracene+Chrysene+Benzo[b]fluoranthene+Benzo[a]pyrene) were ND-1.32 µg kg-1 and 0.14-9.2 µg kg-1, respectively; coconut oil had the highest content. In general, the highest values of Benzo[a]pyrene and PAH4 were not higher than the maximum allowable values of 2 and 10 in any sample, respectively. However, due to the significant content of total PAHs in some vegetable oils, such as coconut oil, it is necessary to determine the limits and evaluate it in the national standard and regulations of the country. Simple Summary: Houseflies (Musca domestica: Diptera) are serious medical and veterinary vectors of several human and animal pathogens. Ovicides reduce breeding housefly populations and the risk of housefly vector diseases. The natural ovicides of plant essential oils (EOs) and their main ingredients were suitable and sustainable options at this time against houseflies. This study evaluated the housefly ovicidal activities of four single-component formulations and two combination formulations of essential oils and their main constituents. The efficacy of each treatment was compared to that of α-cypermethrin (a synthetic insecticide). Two combinations: lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) EO + trans-anethole and star anise (Illicium verum) EO + geranial, were at least 1.1 times as effective in ovicidal activity as all single-component treatments and α-cypermethrin. They induced embryonic damage and mortality inside the activities of the eggs, disrupting the eggshell, hatching line, aeropyles, plastron, and micropyle. More significantly, the two combinations and all single-component formulations were safe for two non-target aquatic species: guppy (Poecilia reticulate: Poeciliidae) and molly (Poecilia latipinna: Poeciliidae), while α-cypermethrin was not safe for them. The two combinations could be developed into an effective and safe natural ovicide for reducing housefly populations and managing housefly vector diseases. This study attempted to evaluate the ovicidal activity of single-component formulations and combination formulations of lemongrass and star anise essential oils (EOs) and their main constituents against housefly eggs. The efficacies of the combinations were compared with those of single-component formulations and α-cypermethrin. Safety bioassays of all treatments and α-cypermethrin on non-target predators—guppy and molly—were conducted. Two combinations: 1% lemongrass EO + 1% trans-anethole and 1% star anise EO + 1% geranial, exhibited a strong ovicidal activity with an inhibition rate of 94.4 to 96.2%. They were 1.1 times as effective as α-cypermethrin. The two combinations also showed high synergistic activity compared to single-component formulations, with a high synergistic index and a high increased inhibition value of 37.4 to 57.7%. All EO treatments were benign for all non-target aquatic species with a high 50% lethal time (LT50) and safety index. In contrast, α-cypermethrin was highly toxic to them with a low LT50. The morphological abnormalities observed in housefly eggs at death were those such as the shrivelling of the eggs, aberrations and damage to the eggshells, hatching lines, aeropyles, plastron, and micropyle. The α-mangostin, a lipophilic xanthone derivative, has a low bioavailability. It was, however, isolated from mangosteen rind, which has antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. Oil in water (O/W) Nanoemulsion as drug delivery can stabilize lipophilic drug into core and increase bioavailability. The α-mangostin nanoemulsion (MN) was formulated with various surfactant (Tween 20, Tween 80, Span 20 and Span 80), co-surfactant (Span 20 and Span 80) and oil (Jojoba oil (JO), as well as evening primrose oil (EO), EMOGREENTM19 (E19) and EMOGREENTM15 (E15)). It was found that at 7.5–10% by weight of Tween 80 as surfactant was appropriate for MN formulation. The type of oil influenced droplet size and pH value of MN. The result showed that MN droplet size is bigger in vegetable oil than in hydrocarbon oil. However, its pH value is lower in vegetable oil than that in hydrocarbon oil. For three months, all MN droplet sizes were increased. Interestingly, MN using tween 80 as surfactant can provide good stability during that time. The significance and challenges of hydrotreatment processes for vegetable oils have recently become apparent, encompassing various reactions like decarbonylation, decarboxylation, and hydrogenation. Heterogeneous noble or transition metal catalysts play a crucial role in these reactions, offering high selectivity in removing oxygen and yielding desired hydrocarbons. Notably, both sulphided and non-sulphided catalysts exhibit effectiveness, with the latter gaining attention due to health and toxicity concerns associated with sulphiding agents. Nickel-based catalysts, such as NiP and NiC, demonstrate specific properties and tendencies in deoxygenation reactions, while palladium supported on activated carbon catalysts shows superior activity in hydrodeoxygenation. Comparisons between the performances of different catalysts in various hydrotreatment processes underscore the need for tailored approaches. Transition metal phosphides (TMP) emerge as promising catalysts due to their cost-effectiveness and environmental friendliness. Enriched olive oil combines olive oil with plants for enhanced flavor and potential health benefits, offering a versatile culinary ingredient. This process combines the natural goodness of olive oil with the unique characteristics of plants. The aim of this work was to study the effect of rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) as a food additive (E 392) in the enrichment of ripe and fallen olives on the quality of the resulting flavored olive oil. Olive fruits at different stages of maturation green (ST1), mixed (ST2), black (ST3), and fallen in the ground (FO) were crushed with rosemary at two different percentages (2 and 5% w/w). Quality parameters, fatty acid profile, antioxidant profile, and volatile composition were evaluated. For ST3 and FO, rosemary addition decreased free acidity values, peroxide index, K232, and pigment content. Total phenols increased by 34 and 55% for ST3 and FO, respectively with 2% rosemary. As for bio-phenols, this process influenced antioxidant activity. In fact, 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) activity is improved by 59 and 51%, respectively, for ST3 and FO oils flavored with 5% rosemary. As anticipated, the volatile profile changed significantly due to the rosemary addition, inducing the presence of terpene compounds, such as α-pinene, α-cymene, camphene, β-pinene, and α-terpineol. These findings prove that aromatization process improves the quality and the antioxidant profile of olive oils obtained from mature and fallen olives, and could help in solving the economic problems of oil mills. Saturated and trans fat intake have been linked to an increased risk of developing diseases such as cardiovascular and coronary heart disease, obesity, and myocardial infarction. As a result of the actions and regulations proposed to reduce and eliminate the content of saturated and trans fats, it is necessary to develop and implement new structuring technologies, such as oleogelation. Oleogelation is a promising strategy for structuring liquid oil, that allows the incorporation of vegetable oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids into food matrix and which can provide the functionality of solid fats and improved nutritional characteristics. The partial or total replacement of conventional fats with oleogels in pastry products is of great interest due to their larger consumption. In this research paper, the puff (jam-filled puff pastry) and tender pastries (bow tie cookies, cheese crackers, apple pie, and cookies) have been reformulated by totally replacing of conventional fats with oleogel and the structural behavior in the dynamics of the technological process was evaluated. The textural properties of oleogel were comparable to those of some conventional fats, but frequency sweep measurements showed that the oleogel formulated with refined sunflower oil and carnauba wax (10% w/w) had the highest storage modulus G' and loss modulus G" values when compared to conventional fats (commercial margarine, butter, a mixture of 73% margarine and 27% lard, and puff pastry margarine). The textural properties of oleogel (2.34 N and 2.30 mJ) were significantly different from those of puff pastry margarine (9.78 N and 21.73 mJ), but compared to other conventional fats, the values of hardness (1.42–2.70 N) and adhesiveness (4.40–5.17 mJ) were similar. For conventional and oleogel doughs the storage modulus (Gʹ) were higher than loss modulus (G″) and both increased with the applied frequency (Hz). In terms of the products textural profile, the prototypes formed with oleogel exhibited lower hardness values (2.37–15.64 N) than the conventional products (8.83–19.89 N), indicating the tenderizing effect produced by the oleogel. The fat losses determined during 14 days of storage showed a lower physical stability of the doughs and products formulated with oleogel, most probably due to the destabilization kinetics of the lipid system during the operations of the technological process. The imperative shift toward sustainability has driven contemporary scholars to explore the lubricating and cooling properties of vegetable oils in traditional metal-cutting processes. Palm oil, as an environmentally conscious derivative, emerges as a preferable option for the base fluid in Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL). However, its high viscosity impedes fluidity, limiting industrial applicability. In contrast, sunflower oil offers superior lubricating qualities and flowability. Consequently, efforts have been directed toward enhancing the lubricating efficacy of palm oil. Six blends of palm and sunflower oils (ranging from 1:0.5 to 1:3) were utilized as MQL fluids, followed by evaluations of machining outcomes, including average surface roughness, specific cutting energy, and tool wear. In addition, an integrated Shannon's Entropy-based Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) framework was employed to determine the optimal volume ratio of the palm–sunflower oil blend. The TOPSIS analysis confirmed that the 1:2 ratio yielded the most favorable outcomes. Subsequent comparative analysis demonstrated that this optimal blend resulted in reductions of 16.79% and 14.92% in surface roughness, 11.82% and 10.98% in specific cutting energy, and 10.19% and 8.45% in tool wear compared to pure palm and sunflower oil media, respectively. Finally, sustainability assessments of various cooling media revealed that a minimal quantity of the blended bio-lubricant-based medium outperforms both compressed air and flooded media. Oxidative degradation is a common issue of commercial edible oils that results in rancidity, downgrading the organoleptic characteristics of food matrices. The aim of this study was the enzymatic modification of common vegetable oils (pomace olive and sunflower oil) with polyphenolic extract to prepare functional oils enriched with bioactive phenolipids. Under that scope, an agro‐industrial effluent, olive mill wastewater, was used as source to recover phenolic compounds. The recovery of hydroxytyrosol and tyrosol reached up to 81.2% ± 0.3% and 98.3% ± 0.2%, respectively. Further, immobilized lipase was used to catalyze the one‐step acylation of these phenolic antioxidants into the oils with the aim of enhancing their stability under accelerated oxidation conditions. The optimum parameters of the bioconversion were found to be 0.1% (w/w) immobilized lipase, 24h of incubation at 50°C under orbital shaking reaching high conversion yields for both phenolic compounds (≥94%). The results also highlighted that the extract‐modified oils presented notable thermooxidative stability at 60°C for 28 days compared to the control and synthetic antioxidant‐enriched oils, as demonstrated by several analytical (conjugated dienes, thiobarbituric reactive substances), chromatographic (solid‐phase microextraction gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy), and spectroscopic (fluorescence, attenuated total reflectance) techniques, giving new insights regarding the preservation of edible oils. Practical Application: Htyr has recently gained much attention as an active ingredient of food matrices for industrial applications due to its high antioxidant/antiradical activity. A major drawback of Htyr exploitation is the high market price and its solubility. Meanwhile, several edible oils are prone to autooxidation during transport, stock management, and household storage. The proposed one‐step biocatalytic process aims to enhance the lipophilicity and bioactivity of Htyr in bulk oil systems, making the use of this potent antioxidant compound feasible. This approach shows promise in extending the shelf life of common oils and highlights the advantages of by‐product management. Moreover, these functional oils can be applied for the preparation of sauces, bakery products, food supplements, and so on, as the bioactive ingredients that are present in them can delay the oxidative cascade reactions and, thus, the spoilage of the products, whereas the whole process meets the requirements of circular economy and green chemistry. Fat polymorphism plays a crucial role in many fat‐rich food products (e.g., margarine, chocolate). Due to this, polymorphism of triglycerides is widely investigated. During the previous years, the interest of using monoglyceride oleogels to replace margarine is increasing due to its structure, reduced amount of saturated fatty acids, stability and application potential. However, polymorphism of monoglyceride oleogels is less investigated. This research shows the effect of the composition (C18:0 or C18:0 and C16:0), temperature (25°C–20°C–10°C) and production process (static or lab‐scale scraped surface heat exchanger) on the crystallization behavior of monoglyceride oleogels (MO) by using differential scanning calorimetry, (synchrotron) X‐ray scattering and polarized light microscopy. Based on time‐resolved synchrotron WAXS, it was found that the rapeseed oil based MO (MO‐C18) occurred in four different polymorphs. During crystallization, transitions from an inverse lamellar phase (Lα) toward sub‐α1 and sub‐α2 could be established. Upon storage, a polymorphic transition toward β occurred. For the palm oil based MO (MO‐C18/C16), only two polymorphs were found during crystallization (Lα, sub‐α), followed by a polymorphic transition to β upon storage. By applying high shear and cooling rates during the production of MO‐C18 (dynamic production), the polymorphic transition from sub‐α2 to β occurred much faster compared to the static production method. When comparing the dynamically produced MO‐C18 and MO‐C18/C16, the thickness of 1 lamella, the crystal nanoplatelet and the fat crystals were smaller for MO‐C18/C16. This research clearly illustrates that the composition and the applied crystallization conditions have an impact on the properties from nano‐ to microscale. Practical Application: This research illustrates the importance of engineering monoglycerides oleogels to obtain food products with an improved nutritional balance. Hereby, the manuscript focuses on the crystallization behavior of monoglyceride oleogels by changing the composition and the crystallization procedure. The acquired insights go beyond the state of the art. It was found that applying high cooling rates and high shear rates by using a lab‐scale scraped surface heat exchanger affected the crystallization behavior of monoglyceride oleogels. These are crucial experiments to verify the application potential of monoglyceride oleogels in the food industry. Moreover, different polymorphic transitions occurred for the two types of monoglycerides. Since the dawn of agriculture, crops have been genetically altered for desirable characteristics. This has included the selection of natural and induced mutants. Increasing the production of plant oils such as soybean (Glycine max) oil as a renewable resource for food and fuel is valuable. Successful breeding for higher oil levels in soybeans, however, usually results in reduced seed protein. A soybean fast neutron population was screened for oil content, and three high oil mutants with minimal reductions in protein levels were found. Three backcross F2 populations derived from these mutants exhibited segregation for seed oil content. DNA was pooled from the high-oil and normal-oil plants within each population and assessed by comparative genomic hybridization. A deletion encompassing 20 gene models on chromosome 14 was found to co-segregate with the high-oil trait in two of the three populations. Eighteen genes in the deleted region have known functions that appear unrelated to oil biosynthesis and accumulation pathways, while one of the unknown genes (Glyma.14G101900) may contribute to the regulation of lipid droplet formation. Late blight, caused by the notorious pathogen Phytophthora infestons, poses a significant threat to potato (Solanum tuberosum) crops worldwide, impacting their quality as well as yield. Here, we aimed to investigate the potential use of cinnamaldéhyde, carvacrol, and eugenol as control agents against P. infestons and to elucidate their underlying mechanisms of action. To determine the pathogen-inhibiting concentrations of these three plant essential oils (PEOs), a comprehensive evaluation of their effects using gradient dilution, mycelial growth rate, and spore germination methods was carried out. Cinnamaldéhyde, carvacrol, and eugenol were capable of significantly inhibiting P. infestons by hindering its mycelial radial growth, zoospore release, and sporangium germination; the median effective inhibitory concentration of the three PEOs was 23.87. 8.66, and 89.65 pl/liter, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy revealed that PEOs caused the irreversible deformation of P. infestons, resulting in hyphal shrinkage, distortion, and breakage. Moreover, propidium iodide staining and extracellular conductivity measurements demonstrated that all three PEOs significantly impaired the integrity and permeability of the pathogen's ceil membrane in a time- and dose-dependent manner. In vivo experiments confirmed the dose-dependent efficacy of PEOs in reducing the lesion diameter of potato late blight. Altogether, these findings provide valuable insight into the antifungal mechanisms of PEOs vis-à-vis late blight-causing P. infestons. By utilizing the inherent capabilities of these natural compounds, we could effectively limit the harmful impacts of late blight on potato crops, thereby enhancing agricultural practices and ensuring the resilience of global potato food production. A series of fatty aeid polyethylene glycol esters were synthesized by esterification reaction of fatty acids with different carbon chain lengths and polyethylene glycol. The content of monoesters and diesters in the products was determined by measuring the acid value, hydroxyl value, and polyethylene glycol content. Its flow state was observed, and its wetting, emulsification, foam and decontamination performance were measured. The results showed that as the feed ratio of C12 acid to polyethylene glycol 400 increased, the polyethylene glycol content of the product decreased, the monoester content decreased, and the diester content increased. The freezing point of fatty acid polyethylene glycol 600 ester is higher than that of fatty acid PEG400 ester. Fatty acid carbon chains grow, wetting deteriorates, and foaming ability weakens. The em unification ability of fatty acid PEG600 ester is stronger than that of fatty acid PEG400 ester. C12 Acid PEG600 has the strongest emulsifying power of soybean oil and paraffin. The waste gas mud generated during the drilling process of the Yanchang gas field is treated with solid-liquid separation, oil/water recycling, and solidification of bottom mud. Research shows that after solid-liquid separation of waste mud, the reduction rate reaches 82.11%, and the oil recovery rate and water content in the recovered oil are 94.50% and 0.43%, respectively; after chemical oxidation floeeulation filtration treatment, the separated effluent has a light transmittanee of over 98. 5% and can be used for the repreparation of oilfield working fluids; the oil content in the sediment is 4.56%, and after solidification treatment, the compressive strength can reach 15.977 MPa. It can be used for laying well pads or roads in oil and gas fields, and the leachate from the solidified form meets the water quality requirements of the "Comprehensive Wastewater Discharge Standard". Taking the laurie aeid, 1, 3-propanediamine, and glucose as the raw materials, a novel glycosyl surfactants (C12-2N-GlU) containing amide group and secondary amine groups was successfully synthesized through esterification, amine ester exchange and reduced amination reactions. Its structure was characterized by FTIR, H NMR and ESI-MS to demonstrate its purity. The surface activity of the surfactant was tested by a surface tension meter. The results showed that the critical micelle concentration and ycmc of the surfactant were 0.26 mmol/L and 30.86 mN/m, respectively, which possessed very good micelle aggregation ability and the ability to reduce the surface tension of water. The surfactant has good emulsifieation ability. The oil-in-water emulsions stabilized by C12-2N-GlU can be stored at room temperature for at least one month. Therefore, the use of materials from renewable resources, was implemented in this study with natural zeolite as a catalyst being chosen over synthetic zeolite because synthetic zeolite mostly consists of strong corrosive materials. The aims of this research to determine the effect of catalyst concentration on the relative conversion of oxirane (RCO). RCO was the highest at 30 min of the reaction for sunflower oil, being 72% at 80°C using a 0.25 g concentration of catalyst. Meanwhile, for palm oil, the highest RCO was only 52% at 80°C. Lastly, MATLAB software was used to develop a mathematical model for determination rate constant. In this model, the Runge–Kutta method of the fourth order was combined with genetic algorithm optimization to for development of kinetic model that best fitted with the experimental data. The Sapindus saponaria (soapberry) kernel is rich in oil that has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, promotes cell proliferation, cell migration, and stimulates skin wound-healing effects. S. saponaria oil has excellent lubricating properties and is a high-quality raw material for biodiesel and premium lubricants, showing great potential in industrial and medical applications. Metabolite and transcriptome analysis revealed patterns of oil accumulation and composition and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) during seed development. Morphological observations of soapberry fruits at different developmental stages were conducted, and the oil content and fatty acid composition of the kernels were determined. Transcriptome sequencing was performed on kernels at 70, 100, and 130 days after flowering (DAF). The oil content of soapberry kernels was lowest at 60 DAF (5%) and peaked at 130 DAF (31%). Following soapberry fruit-ripening, the primary fatty acids in the kernels were C18:1 (oleic acid) and C18:3 (linolenic acid), accounting for an average proportion of 62% and 18%, respectively. The average contents of unsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids in the kernel were 86% and 14%, respectively. Through the dynamic changes in fatty acid composition and DEGs analysis of soapberry kernels, FATA, KCR1, ECR, FAD2 and FAD3 were identified as candidate genes contributing to a high proportion of C18:1 and C18:3, while DGAT3 emerged as a key candidate gene for TAG biosynthesis. The combined analysis of transcriptome and metabolism unveiled the molecular mechanism of oil accumulation, leading to the creation of a metabolic pathway pattern diagram for oil biosynthesis in S. saponaria kernels. The study of soapberry fruit development, kernel oil accumulation, and the molecular mechanism of oil biosynthesis holds great significance in increasing oil yield and improving oil quality. Biodiesel is a promising alternative fuel derived from renewable feedstocks like vegetable oils and animal fats. However, biodiesel usage in compression ignition (CI) engines reduces performance and increases NOx emissions compared to petroleum diesel. This study aims to improve the efficiency of juliflora methyl ester (JFME) biodiesel and simultaneously reduce NOx emissions by converting a CI engine into low heat rejection (LHR) mode and adding natural and synthetic antioxidants. The transesterification process produced JFME biodiesel from Juliflora seeds. A 20% blend of JFME biodiesel with diesel (JFME20) was optimal based on fuel property analysis. The CI engine was coated with lanthanum oxide to create a LHR engine. Natural (Albizia lebbeck leaf extract) and synthetic antioxidants were added to JFME20 at 0.01% concentration. Engine tests showed that JFME20 with natural antioxidants in LHR mode decreased NOx by 15.4% and smoking by 5.48% compared to baseline diesel in a normal CI engine at full load. The brake thermal efficiency of the LHR engine with natural antioxidants increased by 1.8%. CO and HC emissions reduced by 30.76 and 36.95%, respectively. The synthetic antioxidant was less effective than the natural one. In summary, the antioxidant-enriched JFME20 biodiesel blend in the LHR engine demonstrated superior performance over baseline diesel while substantially reducing NOx and other emissions. The effect of graphene oxide nanoparticles (50 ppm) and hydrogen enrichment on the Nerium oleander methyl ester-diesel blend is investigated in the present research study using a compression ignition engine in a dual-fuel mode. Biodiesel is derived from Nerium oleander oil, and 20% (v/v) is blended with 80% of diesel fuel. Following that, Novel carbon-based additives are dispersed in biodiesel–diesel blend and supplied as a piloted fuel. On the other hand, the variable volume flow rates (5 and 10 lpm) of hydrogen gas are supplied via the intake manifold as a secondary fuel. The effects of piloted fuel blends and secondary hydrogen fuel enrichment on overall combustion, performance, and emissions are explored by investigating the cylinder pressure, net and cumulative heat release rate brake thermal efficiency, brake-specific fuel consumption, exhaust gas temperature, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide, and smoke emissions. Combustion parameters, including cylinder pressure, net heat release rate, cumulative heat release rate, are improved by 16, 9.02, and 12.84%, respectively, for B20 + GO + 10H2 blend at maximum engine power when compared to biodiesel–diesel blend. The blend B20 + GO + 10H2 increases the brake thermal efficiency by 12.35% and decreases brake-specific fuel consumption by 15.15% at a maximum power output when compared to the biodiesel–diesel blend. The synergistic effect of B20 + GO + 10H2 decreases carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon, and smoke opacity emissions by 24.51, 27.04, and 7.5%, respectively, at a higher power output when compared to diesel. However, the carbon dioxide and formation of nitrogen oxide increased by 9.57 and 11.98% at a higher power output as compared to diesel. This is owing to the rapid flame speed of hydrogen, as well as the enhanced thermal conductivity and catalytic activity of a biodiesel–diesel blend, including graphene oxide nano-additions. Vegetable oils are rich in health-beneficial compounds, including fatty acids, phenolic compounds, natural antioxidants, and fat-soluble vitamins. However, oil extraction methods can influence their composition. This study aims to understand the chemical basis for developing a green process to extract oils from two Andean seeds, cañihua (Chenopodium pallidicaule) and tarwi (Lupinus mutabilis). Ethanol, considered a green solvent, is compared to petroleum ether used at the laboratory level and hexane used at the industrial scale for extracting oils. The extraction efficiency is assessed in terms of yield, fatty acids profile, polar and neutral lipids, tocopherols, phenolic compounds, and antioxidant capacity. The chemical composition of edible commercial oils, such as sunflower, rapeseed, and olive oils, was used as a reference. Hexane had the highest extraction yield, followed by petroleum ether and ethanol. However, the oils extracted with ethanol having yields of tarwi 15.5% and cañihua 5.8%, w/w showed the significatively superior content of tocopherols (α, γ, and δ); phenolic compounds; and antioxidant capacity. In addition, ethanol-extracted (EE) oils have higher levels of polar lipids, such as phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylinositol, than those extracted with the other solvents. Remarkably, EE oils presented comparable or slightly higher levels of monounsaturated fatty acids than those extracted with hexane. Finally, compared to the commercial oils, tarwi and cañihua EE oils showed lower but acceptable levels of oleic, linoleic and palmitic acids and a wider variety of fatty acids (10 and 13, respectively). The composition of tarwi and cañahua oils extracted with ethanol includes compounds associated with nutritional and health benefits, providing a sustainable alternative for oil production. This comprehensive review offers a chemical analysis of cutting fluids, delving into both their formulation and deformulation processes. The study covers a wide spectrum of cutting fluid formulations, ranging from simple compositions predominantly comprising oils, whether mineral or vegetable, to emulsions. The latter involves the integration of surfactants, encompassing both nonionic and anionic types, along with a diverse array of additives. Concerning oils, the current trend leans towards the use of vegetable oils instead of mineral oils for environmental reasons. As vegetable oils are more prone to oxidation, chemical alterations, the addition of antioxidant may be necessary. The chemical aspects of the different compounds are scrutinized, in order to understand the role of each component and its impact on the fluid’s lubricating, cooling, anti-wear, and anti-corrosion properties. Furthermore, the review explores the deformulation methodologies employed to dissect cutting fluids. This process involves a two-step approach: separating the aqueous and organic phases of the emulsions by physical or chemical treatments, and subsequently conducting a detailed analysis of each to identify the compounds. Several analytical techniques, including spectrometric or chromatographic, can be employed simultaneously to reveal the chemical structures of samples. This review aims to contribute to the improvement of waste treatment stemming from cutting fluids. By gathering extensive information about the formulation, deformulation, and chemistry of the ingredients, there is a potential to enhance the waste management and disposal effectively. In this study, degummed and undegummed silkworm cocoon wastes were used to investigate their oil sorption capabilities for three kinds of oils, namely motor oil, vegetable oil, and crude oil. The laboratory-scale oil sorption results reveal that degummed silkworm cocoon waste has sorption capacities of 16.7, 15.8, and 14.2 g/g for motor oil, vegetable oil, and crude oil, respectively. It exhibits higher sorption capacities for these three oils compared with raw cocoons and cocoon scrap. These sorbents also exhibited excellent oil/water selectivity, retention capacity, and reusability. According to the large-scale experiment, the crude oil can be removed completely by degummed silkworm cocoon waste in 20 min, which shows that degummed silkworm cocoon waste could be considered a good alternative to synthetic sorbent materials applied to oil removal and recycling. The article carries out a detailed analysis and evaluation of indicators related to the combustion process (pressure and temperature in the engine combustion chamber, heat release rate, heat release fraction) in a JCB 444 TA4i compression-ignition engine fuelled with diesel and hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO). During the empirical tests, the operation of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system was stopped, and no other changes were made to the engine settings (factory settings were used). In the first stage, the empirical tests were carried out on the speed characteristics of an engine dynamometer. Then, an experiment was carried out at the engine crankshaft speed corresponding to the maximum torque - which consisted of determining the indicators related to the combustion process at a constant mass flow of fuel: diesel and HVO fuel. This provided information on the effect of hydrogenated vegetable oil on the combustion process in relation to the diesel engine feed. The conclusions drawn from the empirical study can be used to develop guidelines to change the operating map of a compression-ignition engine when it is fed with hydrogenated vegetable oil. Nowadays, there is a need to search for new renewable energy sources from which it is possible to obtain hydrocarbons that are similar in composition and properties to hydrocarbons of petroleum origin. This is due to a significant increase in demand for natural minerals and, as a consequence, the depletion of their reserves. Today, the most promising alternative renewable energy sources are various vegetable oils, which are used both in their pure form, adding them to commercial mineral fuels, and as products of catalytic processing using various catalysts. However, most studies in the field of alternative energy show that the use of fuels obtained from vegetable oils is limited by their properties as well as the climatic conditions of the areas where biofuels can be used. In this work, we propose an integrated approach to the processing of vegetable oils, which allows us to obtain products of a wide fractional composition with improved operational properties. This approach consists of sequential processing of vegetable oils, first using a CoMo/Al2O3 hydrotreating catalyst in order to obtain classical long-chain hydrocarbons with unsatisfactory properties, and then using a zeolite catalyst, ZSM-5 type, which is characterized by the active occurrence of cracking, isomerization, and aromatization reactions, which are accompanied by a decrease in the length of the hydrocarbon chain of the hydrocarbons obtained during the hydrotreating process and, as a result, improving the physicochemical and low-temperature properties of the resulting processed products. Vegetable oils are used to prepare polymeric alkyd surfaces. Novel and exciting designs of alkyd/graphene nanocomposites have provided eco-friendly thermal stability and protective coating surfaces. This review has briefly described important graphene-based alkyd nanocomposites along with their applications as protective coatings. These alkyd composites have high hydrophobicity, corrosion resistance, and durability. Graphene-based alkyd nanocoatings have many industrial and research interests because of their exceptional thermal and chemical properties. This work introduces an advanced horizon for developing protective nanocomposite coatings. During the last few decades, water pollution has become a growing concern at international level. To date, only a few Candida parapsilosis strains were successfully used in environmental remediation. In the present article, the strain C. parapsilosis CMGB-YT was studied for its ability to assimilate hydrophobic substrates and to produce biosurfactants with antimicrobial activity and positive effects on heavy metal removal from contaminated wastewaters. The strain C. parapsilosis CMGB-YT was grown on yeast peptone (YP) media with 1% n-decane, n-dodecane, n-tetradecane, n-hexadecane, as well as commercial sunflower and olive oils. The production of the biosurfactant was evaluated using the emulsification index (E24%). The surface properties and emulsifying stability of the biosurfactant were determined. The effect of the biosurfactant on the cell growth of two strains of Rhodotorula mucilaginosa and on their removal capacity of lead (0.032 g/L) and cadmium (0.030 g/L) ions from synthetic wastewater were also studied. The antimicrobial potential of 20 mg/mL and 40 mg/mL biosurfactant was established in the presence of pathogenic Candida krusei strains. C. parapsilosis CMGB-YT assimilated n-hexadecane with good rates over 216 h and produced an anionic glycolipidic biosurfactant with stable E24% towards long-chain carbon compounds at different temperatures, with an alkaline pH and high salinity (10% NaCl). The biosurfactant reduced the surface tension to 53.58 ± 0.42 mN/m, while the critical micellar concentration (CMC) was reached at 4.2% biosurfactant. The crude biosurfactant (5%) enhanced R. mucilaginosa growth in heavy metal-contaminated wastewater, increased chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal of up to 80%, and improved Cd2+ removal by 10%. Additionally, the concentrated biosurfactant effectively prevented Candida krusei biofilm formation. In conclusion, the biosurfactant produced by C. parapsilosis CMGB-YT demonstrates promising potential for the efficient treatment of wastewater contaminated with heavy metals and microbial pathogens.
