Chemical upcycling of plastic waste has garnered global attention due to its sustainable approach to addressing the growing plastic waste accumulation problem and facilitating the establishment of a circular plastic economy. Methanolysis is a chemical upcycling process for the depolymerization of post-consumer polycarbonates and polyesters into their monomeric feedstock, which generally requires an excess amount of co-solvents and homogeneous inorganic salts. Herein, a solvent-free heterogeneous catalytic chemical upcycling of poly(bisphenol A carbonate) (BPA-PC) and poly(lactic Acid) (PLA) is proposed for the production of bisphenol A (BPA) and methyl lactate (ML) with a high yield using SBA-15 functionalized basic ionic liquid catalysts. Among all the synthesized catalysts, SBA-15-Pr-MIM-OH exhibited the highest basicity and demonstrated the best performance for depolymerization of PC and PLA at 120 °C, completing the reaction in 1 h and 4 h, respectively, with a complete conversion and a monomer yield of >98%. The reaction condition was optimized to get the best catalytic performance and product selectivity. Furthermore, the "one-pot" depolymerization strategy was applied for the chemical upcycling of mixed plastic waste (BPA-PC/and PLA) to their monomers. A detailed depolymerization pathway is provided, supported by FT-IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and TGA. Periodate (PI)-based oxidation using the activators, such as metal ions and light irradiation, has emerged as a feasible treatment strategy for the effective remediation of contaminated water and wastewater. Given the pervasive nature of PI residues and solar exposure during application, the role of solar light in remediating the challenging highly saline water matrices needs to be elucidated. In this study, bisphenol A (BPA) was selected as the targeted micropollutant, which can be efficiently eliminated by the simulated sunlight (SSL)/PI system in the presence of high-level Cl− (up to 846.0 mM) at pH 7.0. The presence of different background constituents of water, such as halides, nitrate, and dissolved organic matter, had no effect, or even accelerated BPA abatement. Particularly, the ubiquitous Br− or I− appreciably enhanced the BPA transformation efficiency, which may be ascribed to the generation of high-selective reactive HOBr or HOI. The in silico predictions suggested that the transformation products generated by halide-mediated SSL/PI systems via halogen substitutions showed greater persistence, bioaccumulation, and aquatic toxicity than BPA itself. Optically transparent polycarbonates (PCs) and Copoly(Imide-Carbonate)s (Co-PICs) were synthesized by the melt polycondenzation method. Rigid (imide) and flexible (-O- and –C(CH3)2−) moieties were incorporated in the structure of bisimide diol comonomer using 4-aminophenol and 4,4′-(4,4′-isopropylidenediphenoxy) bis(phthalic anhydride). The structural properties of synthesized comonomers and polymers were confirmed by 1H, 13C-NMR and FT-IR spectra. Thermal properties of polycarbonates and copolycarbonates were examined using DSC and TG analysis. Thermal properties (glass transition T g and thermal decomposition (Td) temperature) of copolymers were enhanced without sacrificing properties of BPA-based PC (high transparency, ductility, and processability) by the incorporation of active functional bisimide diol comonomer (5–10 mole %) in the polycarbonate backbone. Different sets of PCs and Co-PICs thin film substrates were prepared by the solvent casting method and used to design frequency selective surface. Infertility is a condition characterized by the failure to achieve a pregnancy after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse. 16-17.5% of couples are suffering from infertility worldwide. Genetic and environmental factors may play a role in infertility. Environmental risk factors include exposure to heat stress, infections, and pollutants. Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDC) like bisphenol A, phthalates, pesticides, dioxins, and polychlorinated biphenyls can mimic hormones and disrupt fertility. Air pollution, heavy metals, and microplastics could be hidden factors for infertility. Unhealthy habits like smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, an unhealthy diet, and both obesity and underweight can negatively affect fertility. Poor socioeconomic status could affect fertility due to chronic exposure to stress and limited access to healthcare. These factors can have trans -generational effects, potentially leading to developmental issues and decreased reproductive fitness in offspring, highlighting the critical need for public health interventions to promote clean environments and healthy living habits. In Egypt, around 12% of couples are affected by infertility, and the infertility rates have been increasing in the last few years. Research on infertility in Egypt is limited, but some studies have explored factors like heat stress, sexually transmitted diseases, vitamin D deficiency, EDC exposure, and psychological stress that could affect fertility. More research is needed to understand the specific environmental and lifestyle factors impacting Egyptians. So, infertility is a complex issue with both genetic and environmental influences. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently derived a tolerable daily intake (TDI) for bisphenol A (BPA) of 0.2 ng/kg bw/day. There are several issues with EFSA's hazard assessment review process, including that it was based on a limited subset of relevant studies. Multiple public commenters on EFSA's draft evaluation of BPA, including several European regulatory agencies, noted these issues, yet they were not adequately addressed by EFSA in the final evaluation. The TDI for BPA was based on an intermediate immunotoxicity endpoint in mice that has not been observed in other species; there is no evidence that it is a precursor event to any downstream pathological outcome. The TDI is several orders of magnitude lower than estimates of safe doses of BPA established by agencies worldwide, including EFSA's temporary TDI (t-TDI) for BPA established in 2015. Overall, the EFSA hazard assessment review process has led to a conclusion that there are low-dose effects of BPA based on very few, lower quality experimental animal studies. This conclusion is not supported by the totality of the available evidence, which includes multiple high-quality studies not considered by EFSA and indicates that the t-TDI established in 2015 is protective of human health. Bisphenol P (BPP) is a structural analog of bisphenol A (BPA) and is increasingly used as a substitute of BPA in commercial and household applications. In recent years, BPP has been frequently detected in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. Very little epidemiological and experimental information are available on the toxicity potential of BPP in human and animal systems, which is very concerning in view of its increasing use. The current study evaluated the biochemical and histopathological effects of BPP in rats. The seven experimental groups (n = 5 rats/group) included BPA5 (5 mg), BPA50 (50 mg), BPA100 (100 mg), BPP5 (5 mg), BPP50 (50 mg), and BPP100 (100 mg) while the remaining one group served as untreated control. At the end of treatment, the organs (liver, kidney, heart, and lung) of rats were harvested for oxidative stress and histopathological analyses. A significant (p <.05) decrease was observed in the weight of the liver, lungs, and kidneys in the BPP100 group similar to the BPA100 group compared with the control group. Further, a significant (p <.05) decrease was also observed for concentrations of antioxidant enzymes (catalase, peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase) in the liver, lungs, kidneys, and heart at the highest two doses of BPP similar to the respective BPA groups compared with the control group. The two highest doses of BPP induced histopathological changes in the liver such as nuclei distortion, excessive necrosis of hepatocytes, nuclei shrinkage and pyknosis of cells with disrupted cell structure (BPP100), and cellular congestion and degeneration of hepatocytes (BPP50) similar to the two respective doses of BPA. The BPP treated groups also showed varying histopathological changes in kidney tissue, heart tissue, and lung tissue similar to BPA treated rats. In conclusion, the present study indicated that BPP has the potential to induce oxidative stress and alter the histomorphological architecture of different organs and is as deleterious as BPA. The potential of bisphenol A (BPA)-binding peptides fused to magnetic beads is demonstrated as novel adsorbents that are reusable and highly selective for BPA removal from aqueous environments, in which various interfering substances coexist. Magnetic beads harboring peptides (peptide beads) showed a higher BPA removal capacity (8.6 mg/g) than that of bare beads without peptides (2.0 mg/g). The BPA adsorption capacity of peptide beads increased with the number of peptides fused onto the beads, where monomeric, dimeric, or trimeric repeats of a BPA-binding peptide were fused to magnetic beads. The BPA-adsorbing beads were regenerated using a methanol–acetic acid mixture, and after six regeneration cycles, the adsorption capacity remained above 87% of its initial capacity. The selective removal of BPA was confirmed in the presence of BPA analogs with high structural similarity (bisphenol F and bisphenol S) or in synthetic wastewater. The present work is a pioneering study that investigates the selective affinity of peptides to remove specific organics with high selectivity from complex environmental matrices. In this work, a green and practical analytical method based on natural deep eutectic solvents (NADES) as extraction agents and nano-liquid chromatography as a separation technique was developed. To demonstrate the applicability of the methodology, alkylphenols and bisphenol A were evaluated as model compounds in olive and sunflower oils as model fatty samples by liquid–liquid microextraction. With this aim, several NADES based on mixtures of choline chloride with glycerol, lactic, ascorbic, and citric acids or glycerol with amino acids were evaluated as potential extraction solvents. In addition, to select the most suitable stationary phase for the separation of this group of contaminants, some stationary phases were tested, including Pinnacle II phenyl, Cogent Bidentate C18™, and XBridge® C18. The last one provided the best performance with an analysis time of 11 min. To solve the problem of the compatibility of hydrophilic NADES with chromatographic systems without harming the solubility of analytes, different aqueous organic mixtures were tested. Methanol/water mixtures were the most suitable as an injection solvent. Finally, following the White Analytical Chemistry principles, different tools were used to evaluate the greenness, the practicality, and applicability of the method based on the Analytical Eco-Scale, the Analytical GREEnness metric approach, and the Blue Applicability Grade Index. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between follicular fluid Bisphenol A (BPA) concentrations with alterations in the expressions of NOTCH1-3, CASPASE 3/7, HLA-G, and ICAM-1 genes and the number of retrieved mature oocytes (MII oocyte) in the cumulus cells of infertile poor ovarian response stimulates women. Materials and Methods:In this prospective cohort study, 80 infertile unexpected poor ovarian response (POR) subjects were selected on the basis of subgroup 1a of the POSEIDON classification. They were divided into two groups: group 1 consisted of 40 women, each with a higher number of metaphase II (MII) oocytes (G1, 3-4 oocytes retrieved), while group 2 comprised of 40 women, each with a lower number of MII oocytes (G2, ≤2 oocytes retrieved). The expressions of the studied genes were evaluated by quantitative-real time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The concentration of BPA in follicular fluid was measured with HPLC. Results: The expression levels of NOTCH1-3, HLA-G, and ICAM-1 genes were significantly lower in G2 than G1 (P<0.05). Meanwhile, CASPASE 3/7 expression levels were higher in unexpected POR patients in G2 compared to G1 (P<0.05). There was a significant direct correlation between the levels of NOTCH1-3, HLA-G and ICAM-1 gene expressions and there was also a significant inverse correlation (P<0.05) between the levels of CASPASE 3/7, with the number of MII oocytes and embryo development between the two groups. The concentration of BPA in the follicular fluids of G2 was higher compared to G1 (P<0.05). Conclusion: A higher concentration of BPA was associated with a lower number of mature oocytes and oocyte quality in these patients. Reactive-oxygen-species are produced more often in the body when bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting-substance, is present. In this investigation, bio-sorbents from an aqueous solution adapted from Aloe-vera were used to survey BPA removal. Aloe-vera leaf wastes were used to create activated carbon, which was then analyzed using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Zeta potential, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) techniques. It was revealed that the adsorption process adheres to the Freundlich isotherm model with R2>0.96 and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model with R2>0.99 under ideal conditions (pH = 3, contact time = 45 min, concentration of BPA = 20 mg.L−1, and concentration of the adsorbent = 2 g.L−1). After five-cycle, the efficacy of removal was greater than 70%. The removal of phenolic-chemicals from industrial-effluent can be accomplished with the assistance of this adsorbent in a cost-effective and effective-approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bisphenol A (BPA) has several potential uses, including in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins, which could expose humans to it. Recognized for its hepatotoxicity and ability to accumulate in organs. We prompted this study to explore the hepatoprotective potential of astaxanthin (ASTX), an antioxidant against BPA toxicity. We used 32 male Wistar Albino rats and randomly assigned them as: Control, Sham (olive oil), BPA, and BPA+ASTX. At the end of the experiment, Native Thiol, Total Thiol, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were measured in serum samples. Histopathological scoring was performed to evaluate the changes caused by ASTX in the liver. Caspase 3 and caspase 9 expression in liver tissues was demonstrated immunohistochemically and by PCR. Collagen I (COL1A1) and collagen III (COL3A1) mRNA levels were measured by PCR in the tissue samples. The BPA group showed elevated AST and ALT with decreased Thiol levels. ASTX administration reversed these changes as observed by reduced AST and ALT levels and increased Thiol levels. Histopathology indicated increased liver damage and fibrosis in the BPA group which were alleviated in the BPA+ASTX group. Gene expression analyses revealed upregulated COL1A1 and COL3A1 in BPA, which was downregulated with ASTX. Immunohistochemistry and PCR confirmed BPA-induced caspase 3 and caspase 9 expression, which were attenuated by ASTX. This study underscores ASTX's hepatoprotective efficacy against BPA-induced hepatotoxicity which ultimately attributed to its antioxidant and antiapoptotic properties. The increased interest in the use of polymer composites with natural, biodegradable and renewable fillers is the result of increased awareness of the environment. Therefore, the search for new materials that meet the above expectations is becoming a current issue. The article presents the results of research on composites containing pistachio shells (Pistacia vera L.), which are common agricultural waste, with unsaturated polyester resin based on post-consumer recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) and vinyl ester resin based on bisphenol-A. The environmentally friendly polymeric cobalt solution was used as the accelerator. In order to study the degradation of the composites, accelerated ageing, immersion in various solvents, and high temperature were used. From the obtained results, it can be observed that accelerated aging resulted in the additional cross-linking of the resin, while the filler absorbed the UV light. During immersion, the polymer matrix was degraded in acetone, whereas the incorporation of pistachio increases its water sorption and the plasticisation effect was also observed. The alkali environment initiated the hydrolysis of ester linkages. The vinyl ester resin-based materials were more chemically and thermally resistant than those from the unsaturated polyester. Herein the synergistic properties of electrochemically reduced graphene oxide–antimony nanoparticles (ERGO-SbNPs) were leveraged for the ultrasensitive determination of bisphenol A (BPA) in water samples using disposable pencil graphite rods. A novel pencil-graphite multi-electrode array was utilized as the coating tool resulting in the production of highly reproducible and disposable single-use ERGO-SbNP-coated pencil graphite rods. This coating method effectively mitigated the fouling caused by BPA by-products during oxidation. The analytical determination of BPA oxidation on the single-use ERGO-SbNP-coated pencil graphite rods demonstrated an impressive 0.0,125 µM detection limit, surpassing the USEPA drinking water standard of 0.087 µM. Furthermore, the developed electrochemical sensor exhibited exceptional reproducibility for BPA in tap water samples from Western Cape, South Africa with few interferences. Knowing the impacts of bisphenol A (BPA) on human health, this systematic review aimed to gather the analytical methods for the quantification of BPA release of BPA in dental materials in in vitro and in vivo (biological fluids) studies. A brief critical discussion of the impacts of BPA on human health and the possible association with BPA in dental materials was also presented. The research was carried out by three independent researchers, (according to PRISMA guidelines) in PUBMED and SCOPUS databases, by searching for specific keywords and articles published between January 2011 and February 2022. Seventeen articles met the eligibility criteria and were included in this systematic review: 10 in vitro and 7 in vivo. In in vitro studies, the highest amounts of BPA released were from flowable to conventional resins, followed by resin-modified glass ionomer. In contrast, the smallest amount was released from "BPA-free" composites and CAD-CAM blocks. Regarding in vivo studies, a higher concentration of BPA were found in saliva than urine or blood. The best analytical method for trace quantifying BPA is LC-MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography with Tandem Mass Spectrometry) due to its selectivity, low quantification limits, and the unequivocal identification. In this study, the melt polycondensation reaction of 9,9'- bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)fluoride (BHPF) and diphenyl carbonate (DPC) was catalyzed using three ionic liquids (ILs) and a conventional alkali metal as catalysts. The optimal IL catalysts were determined to be [BMmim][BF4] ionic liquid catalysts, and the catalytic mechanism was investigated. Furthermore, the optimum process conditions were identified: the optimal amount of [BMmim][BF4] was 0.05 mol% based on DPC, the polycondensation temperature was set at 200°C for a duration of 3 h, followed by polymerization at 280°C for another 3 h. As a result, the Mn value of poly(9,9-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) carbonate) (PFC) reached up to 41387 g/mol with a glass transition temperature band of approximately 254°C and Td-5% value of around 436°C. Bisphenol A (BPA) is an adhesive substance used in the production of food packaging, electronic devices, dental sealants and polycarbonate plastics. This substance, which can leak into products during industrial processes, can be taken into the body through contact or consumption. BPA causes oxidative damage in the body and toxicity to organs. This study was conducted on 52 male rats. The rats were randomly distributed into 4 separate groups, with 13 animals in each. Experiment groups were formed as follows: Control: 1 ml of olive oil was administered intragastrically for 14 days. Hesperidin (HESP): HESP was administered intragastrically at a dose of 50 mg/kg for 14 days. BPA: BPA dissolved in olive oil was administered intragastrically at a dose of 100 mg/kg for 14 days. BPA+HESP: BPA at a dose of 100 mg/kg and HESP at a dose of 50 mg/kg were administered intragastrically for 14 days. Brain tissue samples from the rats were collected on the 15th day of the experiment while the rats were under sevoflurane anesthesia. Histopathological and biochemical analyzes were performed on the brain tissues of the rats. As a result of the study, it was observed that HESP had a protective effect on BPA-induced neurotoxicity in rats and triggered the antioxidant mechanism responsible for defense in the cell. Endometriosis, characterized by endometrial-like mucosal tissue outside the uterine cavity, is a reproductive disorder afflicting about 10% of women within the reproductive age. The pathogenesis of endometriosis has been attributed to factors like genetics, environmental particles, and hormones. A comprehensive review of studies from July 2010 to July 2023 across multiple databases was done to aid in a better understanding of the same. The investigation focused on studies delineating the correlation between endocrine disruptors, microRNAs, and endometriosis. To optimize the search scope, keywords and subject headings were used as search terms. Then, two authors rigorously assessed studies using criteria, selecting 27 studies from various databases. Notably, dioxins, organochlorine pesticides, and polychlorinated biphenyls exhibited a solid connection for endometriosis, while bisphenol A and phthalates yielded conflicting results. The heightened presence of bisphenol A, polychlorinated biphenyls, and phthalates was linked to altered gene expression, including genes like AKR1B10, AKR1C3, and FAM49B. MicroRNAs like miRNA-31, miRNA-144, and miRNA-145 emerged as vital factors in the onset of endometriosis and progression. Furthermore, elevated expression of miR-1304-3p, miR-544, and miR-3684 and reduced expression of miR-3935 and miR-4427 exert substantial influence on signaling pathways like NF-κB, MAPK, and Wnt/β-catenin. Currently, literature shows an independent link between endocrine disruptor exposure and endometriosis and between microRNA dysregulation and endometriosis. However, research lacks the combination of all three factors. The review delves into the effects of endocrine disruptors and microRNAs on the pathogenesis of endometriosis to improve our understanding of the disorder and in finding therapies. Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine disruptor widely used in food contact materials, has been linked to a worse health profile. This study intends to estimate the association between BPA exposure and cardiometabolic patterns at adolescence. Data from the Portuguese population-based birth cohort Generation XXI at the age of 13 were used (n = 2386 providing 3-day food diaries and fasting blood samples). BPA exposure was measured in 24-h urine from a subsample (n = 206) and then predicted in all participants using a random forest method and considering dietary intake from diaries. Three cardiometabolic patterns were identified (normal, modified lipid profile and higher cardiometabolic risk) using a probabilistic Gaussian mixture model. Multinomial regression models were applied to associate BPA exposure (lower, medium, higher) and cardiometabolic patterns, adjusting for confounders. The median BPA exposure was 1532 ng/d, corresponding to 29.4 ng/kg/d. Adolescents higher exposed to BPA (compared to medium and lower levels) had higher BMI z-score (kg/m2) (0.68 vs. 0.39 and 0.52, respectively; p = 0.008), higher levels of body fat (kg) (16.3 vs. 13.8 and 14.6, respectively; p = 0.002), waist circumference (76.2 vs. 73.7 and 74.9, respectively; p = 0.026), insulinemia (ug/mL) (14.1 vs. 12.7 and 13.1, respectively; p = 0.039) and triglyceridemia (mg/dL) (72.7 vs. 66.1 and 66.5, respectively; p = 0.030). After adjustment, a significant association between higher BPA and a higher cardiometabolic risk pattern was observed (OR: 2.55; 95%CI: 1.41, 4.63). Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder causing memory loss and cognitive decline, linked to amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and hyperphosphorylated tau protein accumulation in the brain. Environmental pollutant bisphenol A (BPA) has been implicated in AD pathology due to its neurotoxic effects. This study aims to evaluate cyanidin from flower bracts of Musa acuminata Colla (red variety; AAA group) for its neuroprotective properties against BPA-induced AD pathology. The extraction of cyanidin was optimized using 70% ethanol in acidified water, showing promising anti-acetylcholinesterase activity. Cyanidin was effectively purified from the resultant extract and characterized using spectroscopic techniques. Two gradient doses of cyanidin (90 and 10 µg/ml) were determined based on cell viability assay. The role of cyanidin in promoting nerve growth and differentiation was assessed in PC12 cells for up to 72 h. A discernible and statistically significant difference was assessed in neurite extension at both doses at 72 h, followed by pre-treatment with cyanidin. BPA stimulation significantly increased the p-tau expression compared to the control (p < 0.0001). Pre-treatment with cyanidin reduced the tau expression; however, a significant difference was observed compared to control cells (p = 0.0003). Cyanidin significantly enhanced the mRNA expression of Wnt3a (p < 0.0001), β-catenin (p = 0.0004), and NeuroD1 (p = 0.0289), and decreased the expression of WIF1(p = 0.0040) and DKK1 (p < 0.0001), which are Wnt antagonist when compared to cells stimulated with BPA. Conclusively, our finding suggests that cyanidin could agonize nerve growth factor and promote neuronal differentiation, reduce tau-hyperphosphorylation by restoring the Wnt/β-catenin signaling cascade, and thereby render its neuroprotective potential against BPA-induced AD pathology. This study introduces a novel strategy employing a phosphate‐mediated S‐scheme 2D/2D Van der Waals heterojunction, xCu[acs]/yP‐BCN, linking copper phthalocyanine (CuPc) with boron‐doped and nitrogen‐deficient graphitic carbon nitride (BCN). By leveraging phosphate as a charge transfer mediator, spatial constraints are mitigated, facilitating efficient electron transition from BCN to CuPc upon excitation. The captured photoelectrons by CuPc central Cu2+ ion promote CO2 conversion into valuable products, boosting photocatalytic efficiency by 78‐fold compared to standalone BCN. In situ µs transient absorption spectroscopy quantitatively demonstrates a remarkable 36.4% electron transfer efficiency for CO2 reduction with xCu[acs]/yP‐BCN, surpassing other catalyst configurations. Additionally, a 4% CuPc integration into BCN substantially increases photodegradation efficiency of methylene blue (MB) to 96%, attributed to the heterojunction's ability to prevent charge carrier recombination. Moreover, under direct sunlight, the optimized heterostructure achieves a bisphenol‐A (BPA) photodegradation efficiency of approximately 70.6%, highlighting the potential of interface‐tailored photocatalysts in efficiently reducing CO2 and degrading environmental pollutants. Introduction In the present study the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of Bisphenol-A glycidyl methacrylate (BisGMA) was studied on the third instar larvae of transgenic Drosophila melanogaster (hsp70-lacZ) Bg 9. Materials and methods The concentration of BisGMA i.e. 0.005, 0.010, 0.015 and 0.020 M were established in diet and the larvae were allowed to feed on it for 24 h. Results A dose dependent significant increase in the activity of β -galactosidase was observed compared to control. A significant dose dependent tissue damage was observed in the larvae exposed to 0.010, 0.015 and 0.020 M of BisGMA compared to control. A dose dependent significant increase in the Oxidative stress markers was observed compared to control. BisGMA also exhibit significant DNA damaged in the third instar larvae of transgenic D. melanogaster (hsp70-lacZ) Bg 9 at the doses of 0.010, 0.015 and 0.020 M compared to control. Selenium (Se) deficiency can affect the expression of microRNA (miRNA) and induce necroptosis, apoptosis, etc., resulting in damage to various tissues and organs. Bisphenol A (BPA) exposure can cause adverse consequences such as oxidative stress, endothelial dysfunction, and atherosclerosis. The toxic effects of combined treatment with Se-deficiency and BPA exposure may have a synergistic effect. We replicated the BPA exposure and Se-deficiency model in broiler to investigate whether the combined treatment of Se-deficiency and BPA exposure induced necroptosis and inflammation of chicken vascular tissue via the miR-26A-5p/ADAM17 axis. We found that Se deficiency and BPA exposure significantly inhibited the expression of miR-26a-5p and increased the expression of ADAM17, thereby increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) production. Subsequently, we discovered that the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR1), which was highly expressed, activated the necroptosis pathway through receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1), receptor-interacting protein kinase 3 (RIPK3), and mixed-lineage kinase domain-like (MLKL), and regulated the heat shock proteins-related genes expressions and inflammation-related genes expressions after exposure to BPA and selenium deficiency. In vitro, we found that miR-26a-5p knockdown and increased ADAM17 can induce necroptosis by activating the TNFR1 pathway. Similarly, both N-Acetyl-L-cysteine (NAC), Necrostatin-1 (Nec-1), and miR-26a-5p mimic prevented necroptosis and inflammation caused by BPA exposure and Se deficiency. These results suggest that BPA exposure activates the miR-26a-5p/ADAM17 axis and exacerbates Se deficient-induced necroptosis and inflammation through the TNFR1 pathway and excess ROS. Research on thermal receipts has previously focused on the toxic effects of dermal exposure from the most publicized developers (e.g., bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS)), while no studies have reported on the other solvent-extractable compounds therein. Diphenyl sulfone (DPS) is a sensitizer added to thermal receipts, but little is known about DPS concentrations in receipts or potential toxicity. Here, we quantified BPA, BPS, and DPS concentrations and tentatively identified the solvent-extractable compounds of thermal receipts collected from three South Dakota (USA) cities during 2016–2017. An immortalized chicken hepatic cell line, cultured as 3D spheroids, was used to screen effects of DPS, BPS, and 17ß estradiol (E2; 0.1–1000 µM) on cell viability and gene expression changes. These chemicals elicited limited cytotoxicity with LC50 values ranging from 113 to 143 µM, and induced dysregulation in genes associated with lipid and bile acid homeostasis. A tetraphenylethylene-containing bisphenol monomer 5-[4-(triphenylvinyl)phenyl]benzene-1,3-diol (TPE-OH) was designed and synthesized by Suzuki coupling and nucleophilic substitution reaction. By adjusting the proportion of TPE-OH, a series of rigid polyaryl ether, namely PPTES, were facilely synthesized by homopolymerization or copolymerization with 4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2,3-diazepine-1-one (DHPZ) and 4,40-difluorodiphenyl sulfone (DFS). The following characterization of their structures with nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectroscopy confirmed successful synthesis of both monomers and polymers. Large, volume-twisted and non-coplanar rigid tetraphenylethylene could effectively increase the molecular chain spacing and reduce the regularity of the molecular chain, as evidenced by molecular dynamics simulation with Materials Studio, in turn to form an amorphous nature of PPTES phase state. In addition, such PPTESs have excellent solubility, heat resistance, and other comprehensive properties. Their glass transition temperature (Tg) is between 219 and 300°C, and the 5% thermogravimetric temperature of PPTESs locates at 490-539°C under N2 atmosphere. At 1 GHz, the intrinsic dielectric permittivity of polymer films is between 2.32 and 2.61, gradually decreases with TPE-OH content. This work would provide new idea and choice for the selection of polyaryl ether resin bisphenol monomer, and promote the development and application of low-dielectric polyarylether materials. Bisphenol A (BPA), an acknowledged endocrine disrupter, is easily exposed to humans via food packaging and container. However, a consensus has not been reached on the extent to which BPA exposure affects the reproductive system. We therefore conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to elucidate the relationship between BPA exposure and male reproduction-related indicators. Up to October 2023, a comprehensive search was carried out in the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane and Web of Science, and 18 studies were ultimately included. β coefficients from multivariate linear regression analyses were pooled using a random effects model. The results showed that the urinary BPA concentration was negatively correlated with the sperm concentration (β coefficient = −0.03; 95% CI: −0.06 to −0.01; I2 = 0.0%, p = 0.003) and total sperm count (β coefficient = −0.05; 95% CI: −0.08 to −0.02; I2 = 0.0%, p < 0.001). In addition, BPA concentrations were associated with increased sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels, increased estradiol (E2) levels, and reduced biologically active androgen levels. However, the relationship between an increased risk of below-reference sperm quality and BPA exposure was not robust. The aim of the work was to select a nanofiltration membrane that would ensure effective simultaneous co- removal of pollutants present in surface and groundwater, including contaminants such as bisphenol A and PFAS compounds. Series of membrane filtrations was carried out using 12 commercial nanofiltration membranes (NFX, NFG, NF270, NF90, DK, DL, TS80, SB90, TS40, XN45, NPO30, NPO10) under various operating parameters. The conducted tests showed that among tested membranes the membrane most suitable for the production of drinking water from model waters is the NF90 membrane by Dow Filmtec. Regardless of the composition of the water, its pH and transmembrane pressure, the water produced using NF90 membrane each time met the legal requirements in terms of heavy metals (chromium total, silver, nickel, lead, arsenic), iron, manganese, sulfates, chlorides, fluorides, nitrates, sodium, PFAS, tetrachlorethylene, bisphenol A and KMnO4 index. In addition, tests carried out to verify the susceptibility of the produced water to the formation of disinfection byproducts (DBP - ΣTHM and halogenoacetic acids) showed that DBP concentrations in produced water did not exceed the values permitted by law. As reported, the persistent toxic and harmful pollutant bisphenol A (BPA) from industrial emissions has been consistently found in aquatic environments inhabited by humans. Periodate (PI)-based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been employed to degrade BPA, although activating PI proves more challenging compared to other oxidants. A novel nano iron metal catalyst, sulfided nanoscale iron-nickel bimetallic nanoparticle supported on biocarbon (S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC) was synthesized and utilized to activate PI for the removal of BPA. The morphology, structure, and composition of S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive spectrometer (SEM–EDS), and fourier-transform infrared spectrum (FTIR). The catalyst demonstrates an excellent ability to activate PI, achieving a BPA removal efficacy of 86.4%, accompanied by a 33% reduction in total organic carbon (TOC) in the {S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC}/PI system. BPA degradation exhibited a significant change at the 5-min mark. In the first stage (0–5 min), nonlinear dynamic fitting research, combined with scavenging experiments, unveiled the competitive degradation of pollutants primarily driven by iodate radical ( IO 3 · ), singlet oxygen 1 O 2 , and hydroxyl radical ( · OH ). The competitive dynamics aligned with the ExpAssoc model. The contribution rates of different active species during the second stage (5–120 min) were calculated. The contributions of main species to BPA removal follow the order of IO 3 · > 1 O 2 > · OH throughout the entire process. The influence of various parameters, such as the dosage of S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC, initial PI concentration, BPA concentration, pH, temperature, and the presence of coexisting anions, was also examined. Finally, a plausible reaction mechanism in the system is proposed, suggesting that the {S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC}/PI system involves a heterogeneous synergistic reaction occurring primarily on the surface of S-(nFe0-Ni)/BC. Therefore, this study proposes a promising approach for PI-based AOPs to degrade organic pollutants, aiming to mitigate the irreversible harm caused by such pollutants to organisms and the environment. BPA is so ubiquitous that 27 million tons of BPA-containing plastic, including mineral water bottles and baby bottles, is produced worldwide each year. The potential toxicity of BPA to humans and aquatic organisms has been the subject of intense research. In this study, a zebrafish model system was used to assess BPA-mediated hepatotoxicity. Zebrafish larvae at 72-144 hpf were exposed to BPA at different concentrations (0,1, 3 and 5mg/L). For example, BPA-treated zebrafish larvae showed increased mortality, delayed uptake of nutrients in yolk sac, shortened body length, smaller liver area, abnormal expression of genes related to liver development, and pathological changes in the liver tissue. Mechanistically, BPA exposure induced excessive oxidative stress in the liver of zebrafish and increased the level of hepatocyte apoptosis in zebrafish larvae, and the antioxidant astaxanthin could rescue the BPA-mediated liver toxicity. The United Nations (UN) has considered water a human right since 1977. However, freshwater available for consumption represents less than 1% of all water on Earth. Groundwater represents one of the largest reserves of drinking water and is susceptible to chemical contamination, especially from pollutants that seep into the soil, such as atrazine, bisphenol A, and tetracycline. These substances, along with Escherichia coli, were selected to simulate contamination in groundwater samples and evaluate the efficiency of electrochemical oxidation using boron‐doped diamond anodes and four different anion salts to analyze their impact on the treatment process. After electrolysis, the degradation of tetracycline, bisphenol A and atrazine was found to increase with decreasing current density, with average values of 77%, 96% and 100% at 15 mA cm−2 and 68%, 83% and 99% at 35 mA cm−2, respectively. Moreover, the mineralization of these substances showed the same behavior, decreasing from 67%, 64%, and 54% at 15 mA cm−2 to 52%, 35%, and 49% at 35 mA cm−2. The analysis of the results showed that the ions present in the solution significantly affect the degradation process and that they interact with the impurities used. For atrazine and tetracycline, the degradation efficiency followed the same pattern, PO43− ${{\mathrm{PO}}_{4}}^{3-}$ < SO42− ${{\mathrm{SO}}_{4}}^{2-}$ < NO3− ${{\mathrm{NO}}_{3}}^{-}$ < Cl− ${\mathrm{Cl}}^{-}$. However, in the case of bisphenol A and E. coli, phosphate showed better results, similar to nitrate. The high efficiency in eliminating bacteria, even at high concentrations, shows that the electrochemical treatment system has a strong bactericidal effect, eliminating bacterial colonies with up to 5 min of treatment. The Bisphenol A (BPA) is a 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane compound that is produced on a large scale for industrial applications, particularly in polycarbonate plastics. BPA molecules can migrate from plastics into food if stored at high temperatures and for extended periods. Various methods have been developed for BPA analysis, including cyclic voltammetry. This study focuses on the fabrication and application of a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with ZnO nanoparticles and nanobentonite for the analysis of BPA in polycarbonate-based bottled drinking water using cyclic voltammetry. The results showed that the optimal electrode conditions were: electrode composition 3:4:1:2 (carbon: nanobentonite: ZnO nanoparticles: paraffin), and pH 7. The BPA content obtained by cyclic voltammetry for brands A, B, and C was 0.2102; 0.1752; and 0.2210 mM. These results demonstrate that cyclic voltammetry with a ZnO nanoparticle and nanobentonite modified carbon paste electrode can be used for BPA analysis.

Bisphenol A (BPA) and its substitute fluorene-9-bisphenol (BHPF) are used in consumer products; however, their toxic effects on intestinal epithelium remain largely unknown. In this study, we combined intestinal organoids and single-cell RNA sequencing to investigate the impact of BPA and BHPF exposure on intestinal cell composition, differentiation, and function. Both compounds inhibited the growth of small intestinal organoids, with BHPF exhibiting a more potent inhibitory effect. BPA and BHPF did not significantly alter the overall cell type composition; however, they led to different alterations in cell–cell communications. Gene Ontology enrichment analysis showed that BPA and BHPF exposures affected various biological processes, such as glutathione transferase activity, antioxidant activity, and lipid metabolism, in cell type-specific and compound-dependent manners. Trajectory analysis demonstrated that BPA and BHPF altered the differentiation trajectory of the intestinal cells. To further connect the cellular mechanism to the phenotypic impact in vivo, we constructed a mouse model exposed to BPA or BHPF and observed significant alterations in intestinal morphology, including reduced crypt depth and villus length and impaired stem cell proliferation and self-renewal. These results provide novel insights into the cell type-specific effects of BPA and BHPF on the intestinal epithelium and highlight the potential risks of exposure to these compounds. Our findings underscore the importance of evaluating the safety of BPA substitutes and contribute to a better understanding of the effects of environmental chemicals on gut health.

Bisphenol A (BPA), a typical environmental endocrine disruptor, has raised concerns among researchers due to its toxicological effects. Whether neohesperidin (NEO) can intervene in the toxic effects of BPA remains unknown. This study aims to investigate the effects and mechanisms of NEO on the myogenic differentiation of umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) exposed to BPA. Sheep UC-MSCs were isolated, characterized, and induced to myogenic differentiation. BPA decreased cell viability, cell migration, and the expressions of myogenic marker genes, leading to myogenic differentiation inhibition, which were reversed by NEO. Network pharmacology suggested the IGF1R/AKT1/RHOA pathway as potential targets of BPA and NEO regulating muscle development. Western blot results showed that NEO could reverse the down-regulation of the pathway proteins induced by BPA, and counteract the effects of picropodophyllin (PPP) or MK-2206 dihydrochloride (MK-2206) in the myogenic differentiation of sheep UC-MSCs. Additionally, the expression levels of (p-) IGF1R, AKT1, and RHOA were positively correlated. Taken together, the mechanisms of NEO resistance to BPA involved the IGF1R/AKT1/RHOA signaling pathway. These findings provide a scientific basis for alleviating BPA toxicity, preventing and treating muscular dysplasia, and promoting muscle damage repair.

Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals such as bisphenol A (BPA) has been linked to the sharp drop in male fertility observed worldwide. This study evaluates the protective benefits of Cucumeropsis mannii seed oil (CMSO) against BPA-induced transgenerational sperm indices and reproductive hormone disruptions in rats. Twenty-four F0-male rats (aged 4–5 weeks) were randomly assigned to six groups (n = 4 each) after CMSO characterization for flavonoids. Group A received 1 ml of olive oil. Group B received 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) of BPA whereas Group C had a BW of 7.5 ml/kg CMSO. Groups D, E, and F were administered 100 mg/kg_BW of BPA in addition to 7.5, 5.0, and 2.5 ml/kg_BW of CMSO, respectively. After two weeks of treatment, four mature female rats were introduced to each group and allowed to stay together with male rats for seven days to confirm mating. Thereafter, the pregnant female rats were separated from the male according to their groups and allowed to give birth after 21 days of gestation period. At six weeks, the F1-male rats were isolated from each group and sacrificed for biochemical analysis. BackgroundBisphenol A (BPA), a characteristic endocrine disruptor, is a substance that seriously interferes with the human endocrine system and causes reproductive disorders and developmental abnormalities. However, its toxic effects on the gut-liver-hormone axis are still unclear.MethodMale and female rats were exposed to BPA (300 mg/kg) by oral gavage for 60 consecutive days. H&E staining was used for histopathological evaluation, and the serum biochemical indexes were determined using an automatic analyzer. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to detect the intestinal microbial diversity, and the GC-MS was used to analyze the contents of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in colon contents. UPLC-QTOF MS was used to analyze the related metabolites. The ELISA method was used to assess the levels of serum inflammatory factors.ResultsHistopathological analysis indicated that the liver, heart, and testis were affected by BPA. There was a significant effect on alanine aminotransferase (ALT), triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in the male-BPA group (P < 0.05), and globulin (GLB), indirect bilirubin (IBIL), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), ALT, TG, TC, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and creatinine (Cr) in the female-BPA group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control and blank groups, the contents of caproic acid, isobutyric acid, isovaleric acid, and propanoic acid in the colon contents decreased in the male-BPA group (P < 0.05), and caproic acid, isobutyric acid, isovaleric acid, and valeric acid in the colon contents decreased in the female-BPA group (P < 0.05). Metabolomic analysis of the serum indicated that BPA could regulate bile acid levels, especially ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and its conjugated forms. The contents of amino acids, hormones, and lipids were also significantly affected after exposure to BPA. The increase in interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-23 (IL-23), and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) in the serum of the male-BPA group suggests that BPA exposure affects the immune system.ConclusionBPA exposure will cause toxicity to rats via disrupting the gut-liver-hormone axis.

To investigate the alleviating effect and mechanism of the docosahexaenoic acid-enriched phosphatidylserine (DHA-PS) on bisphenol A (BPA)-induced liver injury in mice, the murine liver injury model was established by gavage of BPA (5 mg/kg) or co-administration of BPA and DHA-PS (50 mg/kg or 100 mg/kg) for 6 weeks. The results showed that after administration of 100 mg/kg DHA-PS, the liver index, serum levels of AST, ALT, TC, TG, NEFA, and LDL-C in mice were significantly decreased, while HDL-C was significantly increased. The LPS, IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α, and MDA levels in liver tissues were effectively down-regulated, and IL-10, SOD, GSH-Px, and CAT levels were effectively up-regulated. The H&E and Oil Red O staining results showed that liver damage was notably repaired and lipid deposition was notably reduced after DHA-PS administration. Furthermore, metabolomics and immunohistochemical studies revealed that DHA-PS mainly regulates glycerophospholipid metabolism and the SIRT1-AMPK pathway to improve metabolic disorders of the liver caused by BPA. Therefore, DHA-PS could potentially alleviate BPA-induced murine liver injury through suppressing inflammation and oxidative stress, and modulating lipid metabolism disorders.

The present study sought to investigate the protective effect of Lycopene (LYC) on Bisphenol A (BPA)-induced lipid accumulation and elucidate the potential molecular mechanism. In vitro, the PK15 cells with or without LYC were exposed to BPA for 6 h to detect the lipid accumulation using Nile red’s and Oil Red O’ staining. Meanwhile, redox status, mitochondrial function, gene expression and protein levels relating to lipid accumulation were evaluated by cellular biochemical assays, immunofluorescence staining, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) and Western blot, respectively. In addition, ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine (NAC), SIRT1 inhibitor EX527, SIRT1 siRNA and PGC-1α siRNA were used to verify the target signaling pathways responsible for the protective effect of LYC against BPA-indcued lipid accumulation. In vivo, the twenty four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into three groups, received either BPA (50 mg/kg/day BW) or LYC (10 mg/kg/day BW) orally for 60 days. The kidney tissues were evaluated by HE’s and Oil Red O’s staining, lipid-associated genes and proteins expression were detected through qRT-PCR and Western blot. The results showed that BPA-exposed PK15 cells and rats had increased lipid droplets with elevated transcription of lipogenic factors SREBP1 and PPARγ, and down-regulated PPARα expression, and which is accompanied by redox imbalance and abnormal mitochondrial function. Conversely, LYC prevented BPA-induced lipid metabolism disorder and lipid accumulation through impeding ROS overproduction. Moreover, PK15 cells and rats exposed to BPA showed decrease in SIRT1 and PGC-1α levels, whereas LYC blocked the decrease of SIRT1 and PGC-1α protein levels. Furthermore, inhibition or silence of SIRT1 and PGC-1α abrogated the improvements of LYC on ROS generation, mitochondrial mass impairement and lipid accumulation in BPA-treated PK15 cells. Collectively, these findings indicate that SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway is involved in the protective effect of LYC on BPA-induced lipid accumulation. These results also provide a potential promising therapeutic of LYC against BPA-induced lipid accumulation in kidney cells and organs.
