Ultrasound imaging is regarded as a highly sensitive imaging modality used in routine clinical examinations. Over the last several decades, ultrasound contrast agents have been widely applied in ultrasound molecular cancer imaging to improve the detection, characterization, and quantification of tumors. To date, a few new potential preclinical and clinical applications regarding ultrasound molecular cancer imaging are being investigated. This review presents an overview of the various kinds of ultrasound contrast agents employed in ultrasound molecular imaging and advanced imaging techniques using these contrast agents. Additionally, we discuss the recent enormous development of ultrasound contrast agents in the relevant preclinical and clinical applications, highlight the recent challenges which need to be overcome to accelerate the clinical translation, and discuss the future perspective of ultrasound molecular cancer imaging using various contrast agents. As a highly promising and valuable tumor-specific imaging technique, it is believed that ultrasound molecular imaging will pave an accurate and efficient way for cancer diagnosis.

Objective: Tan lambs (n = 36, 3 mo old, 19.1±0.53 kg) were used to assess effects of dietary guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) and rumen-protected methionine (RPM) on growth performance, carcass traits, meat quality, and serum parameters.Methods: Lambs were randomly assigned to three treatment groups, with 6 pens per group and 2 lambs per pen. Dietary treatments were: basal diet alone (I); basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.06% RPM (II); and basal diet supplemented with 0.08% GAA+0.08% RPM (III). Diets were provided three times a day for 90 d. Intake per pen was recorded daily and individual lamb body weight (BW) was measured monthly. Purpose Elderly patients have different physical condition and tumor biology of breast cancer. Surgical choices for older patients are complicated and several studies have reported that breast conserving surgery (BCS) had better survival than mastectomy in different patient population. The major object of this study was to compare the efficacy of BCS and mastectomy in the whole elderly cohort in SEER database.Methods Female patients aged over 70 years old and diagnosed with breast cancer between 2010 and 2015 were included from SEER database. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to establish a cohort composing of similar characteristics. We compared the overall survival (OS) among patients undergoing BCS and mastectomy. Kaplan-Meier analysis and Cox proportional regression model were used to evaluate the associated factors of survival outcome.Results Of 44755 eligible patients, 30375 (67.9%) patients underwent breast conserving surgery (BCS) and 14380 (32.1%) patients underwent mastectomy. After PSM, 7222 patients in each group were analyzed and there was no significant difference between BCS and mastectomy in terms of the overall survival rate (85.8% in BCS group and 85.0% in mastectomy group, p = 0.135). Multivariable analysis also indicated that no significant difference between two surgical procedures after adjusting for covariates both in all patients (HR = 1.074, 95% CI 0.992-1.105, p = 0.098) and matched cohort (HR = 1.062, 95% CI 0.997-1.132, p = 0.063). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy contributed to the survival benefit of BCS compared to mastectomy (p < 0.05).Conclusion For elderly breast cancer patients, BCS and mastectomy had similar overall survival rate. BCS might be a better surgical treatment with or without axillary surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

The rapid development of coastal economies has aggravated the problem of pollution in the coastal water bodies of various countries. Numerous incidents of massive-scale marine life deaths have been reported because of the excessive discharge of industrial and agricultural wastewater. To investigate the diffusion of typical pollutants after discharge, in this study, a multi-process fusion simulation analysis model of pollutants under the action of ocean currents was established based on the concentration analysis method. Furthermore, key technologies involved, such as the parameter value, data selection, and visualization, were investigated. The iterative analysis and programming realization of three independent sub-processes, such as pollutant diffusion and transport, and the drift path and concentration distribution of pollutants after their discharge into the sea, were visualized. The case study revealed that the increase in the concentration of pollutants in the ocean was affected by the diffusion sub-process, and the transport sub-process plays a critical role in the long-distance transport of pollutants. The proposed method can provide technical support for marine environmental risk assessment and dynamic tracking of marine pollutants.

The interior structure of Phobos has been the subject of debate in recent years, with the moment of inertia being a determining factor. To study this structure, we modeled Phobos with a two-layer structure and calculated its mean density and moment of inertia using updated gravity coefficients of degree-2 and forced libration amplitudes. By minimizing the misfit between modeled and derived moment of inertia, and observed and modeled mean density, we determined the frequency distribution for estimated parameters, including the core radius rc, core density ρc, and density ρm of the outer layer. Our results indicate that the optimized core radius is around 8.2 km for our models, along with a core density compromise of approximately 2500 kg·m−3, and an outer layer density of around 1400 kg·m−3. These values have remarkable sensitivity to the misfit function, implying a higher density likely inside Phobos compared to the outer layer. Given that the large core density was associated with ice content, it suggested that the fractional ice content in the outer layer is approximately 11% with a rock density of 2200 kg·m−3, while the content in the core is lower at 2.4% with a rock density of 3000 kg·m−3. The methodology introduced in this study can be further used to study the interior structure of irregularly shaped asteroids.

OBJECTIVE The traditional anterior approach for multilevel severe cervical ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament (OPLL) is demanding and risky. Recently, a novel surgical procedure—anterior controllable antedisplacement and fusion (ACAF)—was introduced by the authors to deal with these problems and achieve better clinical outcomes. However, to the authors’ knowledge, the immediate and long-term biomechanical stability obtained after this procedure has never been evaluated. Therefore, the authors compared the postoperative biomechanical stability of ACAF with those of more traditional approaches: anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) and anterior cervical corpectomy and fusion (ACCF). METHODS To determine and assess pre- and postsurgical range of motion (ROM) (2 Nm torque) in flexion-extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation in the cervical spine, the authors collected cervical areas (C1–T1) from 18 cadaveric spines. The cyclic fatigue loading test was set up with a 3-Nm cycled load (2 Hz, 3000 cycles). All samples used in this study were randomly divided into three groups according to surgical procedures: ACDF, ACAF, and ACCF. The spines were tested under the following conditions: 1) intact state flexibility test; 2) postoperative model (ACDF, ACAF, ACCF) flexibility test; 3) cyclic loading (n = 3000); and 4) fatigue model flexibility test. RESULTS After operations were performed on the cadaveric spines, the segmental and total postoperative ROM values in all directions showed significant reductions for all groups. Then, the ROMs tended to increase during the fatigue test. No significant crossover effect was detected between evaluation time and operation method. Therefore, segmental and total ROM change trends were parallel among the three groups. However, the postoperative and fatigue ROMs in the ACCF group tended to be larger in all directions. No significant differences between these ROMs were detected in the ACDF and ACAF groups. CONCLUSIONS This in vitro biomechanical study demonstrated that the biomechanical stability levels for ACAF and ACDF were similar and were both significantly greater than that of ACCF. The clinical superiority of ACAF combined with our current results showed that this procedure is likely to be an acceptable alternative method for multilevel cervical OPLL treatment.

Background Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the Fibrillin-1 gene (FBN1) with significant clinical features in the skeletal, cardiopulmonary, and ocular systems. To gain deeper insights into the contribution of epigenetics in the variability of phenotypes observed in MFS, we undertook the first analysis of integrating DNA methylation and gene expression profiles in whole blood from MFS and healthy controls (HCs). Methods The Illumina 850K (EPIC) DNA methylation array was used to detect DNA methylation changes on peripheral blood samples of seven patients with MFS and five HCs. Associations between methylation levels and clinical features of MFS were analyzed. Subsequently, we conducted an integrated analysis of the outcomes of the transcriptome data to analyze the correlation between differentially methylated positions (DMPs) and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and explore the potential role of methylation regulated DEGs (MeDEGs) in MFS scoliosis. The weighted gene co‑expression network analysis (WGCNA) was used to find gene modules with the highest correlation coefficient with target MeDEGs to annotate their functions in MFS. Results Our study identified 1253 DMPs annotated to 236 genes that were primarily associated with scoliosis, cardiomyopathy, and vital capacity. These conditions are typically associated with reduced lifespan in untreated MFS. We calculated correlations between DMPs and clinical features, such as cobb angle to evaluate scoliosis and FEV1% to assess pulmonary function. Notably, cg20223687 (PTPRN2) and cg00259849 (CSMD1) exhibited an inverse correlation with cobb angle of scoliosis, potentially playing a role in ERKs inactivation and chondrocyte proliferation, respectively. Conclusions Taken together, our systems-level approach sheds light on the contribution of epigenetics to MFS and offers a plausible explanation for the complex phenotypes that are linked to reduced lifespan in untreated MFS patients.
