Abscesses represent the most prominent emerging problem in the red meat industry, leading to great economic constraints and public health hazards. Data on etiological agents present in these purulent lesions in Algeria are very scarce. The aim of this study was to identify the bacteria responsible for these abscesses and to determine their antibiotic susceptibility profiles. A total of 123 samples of abscesses from 100 slaughtered sheep and 23 slaughtered cattle were cultured in several media. A total of 114 bacterial isolates were cultured from 103 abscesses. Bacteria were identified using MALDI–TOF, and antibiotic susceptibility was determined by the disk diffusion method on Mueller–Hinton agar. A total of 73.6% (n = 84) corresponded to Enterobacterales, of which four were multidrug-resistant (MDR). These isolates, together with Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase negative Staphylococci, and seven randomly chosen susceptible Escherichia coli isolates, were further characterized using WGS. Resistome analysis of the four MDR Enterobacterales isolates revealed the presence of OXA-48 carbapenemase in two Klebsiella pneumoniae ST985 and one E. coli ST10 isolates and a CTX-M-15 ESBL in one E. coli isolate ST1706. Two coagulase-negative Staphylococci isolates were found to carry the mecA gene. WGS showed the presence of different resistance genes and virulence genes. Our study revealed 5% of MDR Enterobacterales (including ESBLs and carbapenemases) identified from abscesses, thus urging the need for abscess monitoring in slaughterhouses.

Breast cancer causes a huge number of women’s deaths every year. The accurate localization of a breast lesion is a crucial stage. The segmentation of breast ultrasound images participates in the improvement of the process of detection of breast anomalies. An automatic approach of segmentation of breast ultrasound images is presented in this paper, the proposed model is a modified u-net called Attention Residual U-net, designed to help radiologists in their clinical examination to determine adequately the limitation of breast tumors. Attention Residual U-net is a combination of existing models (Convolutional Neural Network U-net, the Attention Gate Mechanism and the Residual Neural Network). Public breast ultrasound images dataset of Baheya hospital in Egypt is used in this work. Dice coefficient, Jaccard index and Accuracy are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed model on the test set. Attention residual u-net can significantly give a dice coefficient = 90%, Jaccard index = 76% and Accuracy = 90%. The proposed model is compared with two other breast segmentation methods on the same dataset. The results show that the modified U-net model was able to achieve accurate segmentation of breast lesions in breast ultrasound images.

Introduction: Vitamin C deficiency (or scurvy) usually takes weeks to become apparent as cutaneous signs and impaired wound healing. Haemorrhagic pericarditis remains a rare complication of scurvy, which has never been reported as an isolated condition. We report the case of a haemorrhagic pericarditis revealing a vitamin C deficiency in a 56-year-old patient. Case description: A 56-year-old woman presented with a 2-week history of worsening chest pain and dyspnoea, with no significant medical history. Upon admission, the patient exhibited tachycardia, tachypnoea, low blood pressure, elevated jugular venous pressure, muffled heart sounds and multiple petechiae on her lower limbs. An ultrasound revealed a large pericardial effusion, and an emergency pericardiocentesis was performed, which yielded haemorrhagic fluid without atypical cells. An initial workup including haemoculture, PT and PTT, tuberculosis workup, autoantibodies, tumour markers and infectious disease was negative. Abstract Background Dental caries is common in young people and has wide-ranging ramifications for health and quality of life. Text messaging interventions show promise as a means to promote oral health behaviour change among young people. This paper reports the internal pilot of the Brushing RemInder 4 Good oral HealTh (BRIGHT) trial, which is evaluating an intervention comprising an oral health classroom lesson and text messages about toothbrushing, on caries in young people. Pilot trial objectives were to evaluate the feasibility and appropriateness of recruitment and data collection methods, the randomisation strategy, and intervention delivery against progression criteria for the main trial. Methods This is an internal pilot trial embedded within an assessor-blinded, two-arm, cluster randomised controlled trial. Participants were pupils aged 11–13 years (in year 7/S1 or year 8/S2) in secondary schools in England, Scotland, and Wales with above average pupil eligibility for free school meals. Following completion of pupil baseline questionnaires and dental assessments, year groups within schools were randomised to the intervention or control arm. Approximately 12 weeks later, participants completed a follow-up questionnaire, which included questions about sources of oral health advice to assess intervention contamination between year groups. At the end of the pilot phase, trial conduct was reviewed against pre-specified progression criteria. Results Ten schools were recruited for the pilot, with 20 year groups and 1073 pupils randomised (average of 54 pupils per year group). Data collection methods and intervention delivery were considered feasible, the response rate to the follow-up questionnaire was over 80%, there was an indication of a positive effect on self-reported toothbrushing, and interest was obtained from 80% of the schools required for the main trial. Despite partial intervention contamination between year groups, within-school randomisation at the level of the year-group was considered appropriate for the main trial, and the sample size was revised to account for partial contamination. Facilitators and barriers to recruitment and data collection were identified and strategies refined for the main trial. Conclusions Progression to the main trial of BRIGHT, with some design refinements, was concluded. The internal pilot was an efficient way to determine trial feasibility and optimise trial processes. The expansion of urbanization and the amplification of anthropic activities in the Rif region require the establishment of wells. However, the irrational exploitation of water and natural conditions have generated the rise of the water table and the increase in pollution. Thus, the assessment of water quality has emerged as a significant concern. This study’s goal is to assess the adequacy of groundwater quality in two aquifers in the vicinity of the Mediterranean Zone - Drouich Province and Oriental Region, Morocco, for drinking water needs by taking 62 water samples of the Kert aquifer for 2019. The Water Quality Index (WQI) classifies water quality: as excellent, good, poor, very poor, etc. That is essential for conveying information about water quality to people and decision-makers in the affected area. The WQI in the Kert aquifer varies from 62.3 to 392.3. The calculation of the water quality index (WQI) of the Kert aquifer view is based that 45.16% of groundwater samples are of poor quality, making them acceptable for drinking. The study’s analysis is established with a geographic information system (GIS) setting. The index map provides decision-makers with a complete and interpretable picture for better water resource planning and management. SVM models are shown to account for 87.71% of the varying water quality score. Different statistical and intelligence models may make the index more predictable. These forecasts assist us in better managing the aquifer’s water quality.

Le présent article représente la suite d’une publication antérieure (Yousfi et Aissa, 2022). C’est dans le cadre d’un projet de recherche universitaire que s’inscrivent les deux études. L’objet du projet est le « français en contexte scientifique et technique en Algérie ». Le cas que nous analysons est le programme de langue française destiné aux étudiants inscrits en première année à l’Institut de Maintenance et de Sécurité Industrielle de l’université d’Oran 2 (Algérie). Nous nous interrogeons sur la nature des objectifs visés à travers le contenu proposé et l’adéquation de ces objectifs aux besoins du public de la formation. Dans un premier temps, nous présentons l’établissement et les formations dispensées. Dans un second temps, nous examinons le programme prescrit par l’institution en en relevant les points pertinents et les insuffisances.

Abstract Background Recent policies have recommended early-life interventions to prevent caries. The four nations of the UK each have a national universal children’s health programme, through which health visitors and their wider team (HVTs) promote health in the early years. HVT visits offer an opportunity to support parents to improve their child’s oral health. A scoping review was conducted to provide a descriptive synthesis of the current literature related to the role of HVTs in improving the oral health of children 0–5 years old and to identify significant gaps for future research. This review informed the feasibility study of the First Dental Steps Intervention, a targeted health visitor-led infant oral health intervention in England. Methods Electronic database searches for peer-reviewed literature were performed using Medline via Ovid and Web of Science (1946–2021). The quality of included intervention studies was assessed using the Effective Public Health Practice Project tool. Additionally, a grey literature search was conducted (key organisations, bibliographic and thesis databases, forwards and backwards citation, Google). Results Thirty-nine publications, published between 1980 and 2021, were included. The majority of included papers were from the UK. The quality of intervention studies (n = 7) ranged from weak to strong. Thematic analysis identified the following themes: (1) professional knowledge, education, and training; (2) involvement of HVs in the delivery of oral health interventions; (3) effectiveness of interventions; (4) perspectives of HVs providing oral health advice and acceptability; and (5) barriers and facilitators to promoting oral health. The grey literature search identified 125 sources. HVT involvement was reported in a variety of source types: reports, guidance documents, evaluations, reviews, and training resources. HVTs were involved in oral health by providing oral health packs, brushing and oral health advice, registration and attendance, oral health training, risk assessment, and referral to dental services. Conclusion The current literature suggests that HVTs are well placed to improve children’s oral health. Facilitators and barriers are encountered by HVTs in promoting oral health which should be considered by commissioners. There is a need for future high-quality studies that address the inadequacies found and provide further evidence of the effectiveness of HVT’s oral health interventions.

Abstract Background Dental caries in childhood is a burden on the daily lives of children and their families, and associated with poor oral health in adulthood. In England, dental caries is the most common reason for young children to be admitted to hospital. It is believed that most tooth extractions (due to decay) for children aged 10 years and under, could be avoided with improved prevention and early management. National public health policy recommendations in England include specific oral health initiatives to tackle tooth decay. One of these initiatives is delivered as part of the Healthy Child Programme and includes providing workforce training in oral health, integrating oral health advice into home visits, and the timely provision of fluoride toothpaste. This protocol seeks to assess the delivery of the First Dental Steps intervention and uncertainties related to the acceptability, recruitment, and retention of participants. Methods This study seeks to explore the feasibility and acceptability of the First Dental Steps intervention and research methods. First Dental Steps intervention will be delivered in local authority areas in South West England and includes oral health training for health visitors (or community nursery nurses) working with 0–5-year-olds and their families. Further, for vulnerable families, integrating oral health advice and the provision of an oral health pack (including a free flow cup, an age appropriate toothbrush, and 1450 ppm fluoride toothpaste) during a mandated check by a health visitor. In this study five local authority areas will receive the intervention. Interviews with parents receiving the intervention and health visitors delivering the intervention will be undertaken, along with a range of additional interviews with stakeholders from both intervention and comparison sites (four additional local authority areas). Discussion This protocol was written after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as a result, some of the original methods were adjusted specifically to account for disruptions caused by the pandemic. Results of this study will primarily provide evidence on the acceptability and feasibility of both the First Dental Steps intervention and the research methods from the perspective of both families and stakeholders.

A tumoral calcinosis is a rare benign pathology characterized by calcium deposits (calcium phosphate crystals) in the periarticular soft tissues, giving a truly pseudotumor appearance. The same patients with tumoral calcinosis may have manifestation of hyperostosis hyperphosphatemia syndrome. The association is called Hyperphosphatemic familial tumoral calcinosis which is the case with our patient. We present a unique case of a 10-year-old female child without any notable history. No notion of consanguinity, a non-painful swelling of the right elbow for the last 3 years. She was presented with tumoral calcinosis in the context of familial hyperphosphatemic calcinosis tumor in which the diagnosis of lymphangioma was evoked and then redressed.

This experimental study aims to investigate the effect of the closed cycle of air circulation on the thermal performance of the solar air collector with attached fins in the site of Laghouat in Algeria, under climatic conditions. Our experimental procedure includes two types of cycles: open cycle and closed cycle. For each cycle, we have considered two tilt angle: 0 and 30 degree. Moreover, the solar collector is oriented in a southerly direction with a definite angle of inclination. The flow rate used in experiment is equal to 0.0129402 m3/s. Then, by comparing the experimental and theoretical results, we observe that the maximum temperature difference between the outlet and inlet air for the open cycle (27 °C, at 14h30) is higher than that of the close cycle (17 °C, at 14h00). The maximum efficiencies obtained for the open cycle for the both configurations were η (30 degrees) = 25.29 % and η (0 degree) = 35.71 % at 4 pm. These values are higher than those of the maximum efficiencies of the closed cycle with η (30 degrees) = 7.86 % at 4 pm and η (0 degree) = 13.31% at 12h00, respectively

Big Data deal with new challenges such as data variety, data veracity (correct, incorrect, misleading, etc.) and data completeness (provide a single part of the overall information.). In fact, the knowledge discovered from a single source that can offer incorrect or incomplete data, may have a negative impact on the quality of decisions based on it. Therefore, integrating data coming from multiple sources allows verifying the veracity and ensuring the completeness of the results and thus improving the quality of analysis and enhancing business decisions. In this paper, we present a smart framework that falls within the Big Data value chain process and aims to improve the quality of analytical results by focusing two main concerns regarding Big Data Integration; data completeness and data veracity. The framework integrates Big Data in order to build a complete global and correct insight from heterogeneous sources. The paper presents two implementations of the framework in the context of urban and highway traffic management systems.

Fuel cell durability being one of the technical bolts regarding the technology industrialization in the automotive sector, durability improvement methods are particularly relevant. Fault tolerant control process enables to increase fuel cell durability by detecting and correcting fuel cell faults in real time. Fuel cells are prone to faults because they are very sensitive to operating conditions. In vehicle application, fault risk is exacerbated as dynamic conditions are often encountered. Dynamic conditions make the fuel cell control harder because it impacts reactants supply, thermal management, water management… If not corrected, those faults degrade the fuel cell and reduce its remaining useful lifetime.Fault tolerant control consists in diagnosing faults, then taking corrective actions to resolve those faults. This article treats the diagnosis part, which consists in detecting and identifying faults, in vehicle application. Vehicle applications engender several constraints as the reduced cost, the hydrogen usage and computation limitations or the safety regulations for algorithms implementation. Three steps are necessary for diagnosis: real time measurements, useful information extraction, and classification. In this article, a state-of-the-art of methods for each of these steps independently is presented. In the last section, useful explanations to convert offline diagnosis algorithm into an embedded diagnosis tool are provided.
