Background Timely discriminating biliary atresia (BA) from other causes of cholestasis is important but challenging. Aims To develop a useful diagnostic nomogram and a simplified scoring system to diagnosing BA. Study design All medical records of the patients who were consecutively admitted to our institution with cholestasis from March 2016 to December 2020 were retrospectively searched. The patients were allocated to the derivation cohort (n = 343) and the validation cohort (n = 246). Multivariable logistic regression models were used to construct the nomogram. The nomogram was validated in both cohorts. The simplified risk score was derived from the nomogram. Results The nomogram was constructed based on presence of clay stool, gallbladder length, gallbladder emptying index, shear wave elastography value, and gamma-glutamyl transferase level. This model showed good calibration and discrimination ability, with the C-index of 0.968 (95% CI: 0.951–0.984). The discriminating ability is most prominent in the 61–90 days group, with AUC of 0.982 (95% CI: 0.955–1.000). The simplified risk score identified most patients with very high or low risk of BA, and was capable of exempting 64.3% non-BA patients from intraoperative cholangiogram procedure. Conclusions This novel diagnostic nomogram had good discrimination and calibration abilities. The simplified scoring system showed significant clinical utility.

The infectious burden in hereditary spherocytosis (HS) children before splenectomy has rarely been reported and the risk of severe postsplenectomy infection is controversial.We conducted a retrospective study of pediatric patients with HS to evaluate the risk of infection presplenectomy and postsplenectomy. The primary outcome was any bacterial, Mycoplasma, or fungal infection that required hospitalization. The secondary outcomes were sepsis and septic shock. Appendectomized children were matched on age at surgery and enrolled as controls.In all, 232 patients were included. Before splenectomy, the primary outcome was identified in 51 (22.0%) patients, and the secondary outcome was identified in 1 (0.4%) patient. After splenectomy, the primary and secondary outcomes were detected in 8 (4.1%) and 1 (0.5%) patients, respectively. The risk of infection was higher presplenectomy than postsplenectomy (OR, 6.6; 95% CI, 3.0-14.2). HS patients had a higher risk of infection than the controls before surgery (OR, 3.7; 95% CI, 2.3-5.9) but not after surgery (OR, 1.4; 95% CI, 0.6-3.6).HS patients who require splenectomy later in life had a high incidence of hospitalization for infections. In contrast, postsplenectomy risk of hospitalization involving infection or severe infection was low.Patients with hereditary spherocytosis who require splenectomy later in life have a high risk of hospital admission for infections, especially those with severe hereditary spherocytosis. With vaccines or postoperative antibiotics, splenectomy does not increase the risk of infection or severe infections. Splenectomy may reduce the risk of hospitalization for infections by alleviating the complications of hereditary spherocytosis. With vaccines, prophylaxis, or advanced antibiotics, the benefits of splenectomy in children with hereditary spherocytosis and a heavy disease burden may outweigh the risks.

Vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy is common across the world. The effects of maternal vitamin D supplementation on offspring health were contradict from previous studies. This study was conducted to update the effects of vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy on offspring health with new evidence.A systematic search of Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, ClinicalTrials.gov and ChiCTR.org.cn through July 2021 were conducted. Studies were included if they reported randomized clinical trials comparing vitamin D supplementation with placebo, no supplementation (400 IU/day or less) during pregnancy, and included birth outcomes. Pooled analyses were performed using random-effects models.Forty-two RCTs recruiting 11,082 participants were included. Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy was associated with a lower risk of intrauterine or neonatal death (RR, 0.69; 95% CI, 0.48-0.99) in 13 RCTs with 6238 participants. We also found prenatal vitamin D supplementation was associated with an increased offspring length at birth (MD, 0.27 cm; 95% CI, 0.02-0.51), increased neonatal vitamin D concentration (MD, 27.72 nmol/L; 95% CI, 20.51-34.92), and reduced risk of vitamin D insufficiency (RR of 0.51; 95% CI, 0.38-0.67), but not associated with birth weight (MD, 37.07 g; 95% CI, -9.67 to 83.80), head circumference (MD, 0.15 cm; 95% CI, -0.02 to 0.32), preterm birth (RR, 0.93; 95% CI, 0.79-1.09), or low birth weight (RR, 0.90; 95% CI, 0.66-1.24). Supplementation initiated before the 20th week of gestation was associated with a decreased risk of small for gestational age (RR, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.24-0.90).Vitamin D supplementation during pregnancy was associated with improved offspring vitamin D sufficiency status, improved fetal linear growth, and reduced fetal or neonatal mortality. No effect was demonstrated for vitamin D supplementation on birth weight, risk of low birth weight, and risk of preterm birth.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have been used as bio-based carbon source in intumescent system. However, CNCs have the disadvantages of low onset decomposition temperature and decompose and carbonize during processing. We, herein, demonstrated the design of phosphazene-containing CNCs (P/N-CNCs) with great thermal stability and outstanding charring ability. The TGA results showed that the initial decomposition temperature of P/N-CNCs was increased from 202.4 ℃ to 272.2 ℃ (increased by 34.5%), and the residual char at 700 ℃ was increased from 24.9 wt% to 55.8 wt% compared with CNCs. Then, flame retardant PLA composites were prepared by blending PLA, P/N-CNCs with ammonium polyphosphate (APP), melamine (MPP), aluminum hypophosphite (AHP) and piperazine pyrophosphate (PPAP), respectively. The thermal stability, flame retardant properties and mechanical properties of PLA composites were investigated. The results showed that the flame retardant system constructed by 7 wt% APP and 3 wt% P/N-CNCs had the best effect in PLA. PLA/7APP/3P/N-CNCs had the highest limit oxygen index value (28.1%), the lowest peak heat release rate (266 kW/m2) and reached UL 94 V-0 rating. Moreover, the tensile strength, impact strength and elongation at break of PLA/7APP/3P/N-CNCs were increased by 7.3%, 18.6% and 29.4%, respectively, compared with these properties of PLA/7APP/ 3CNCs. This work provides a new idea for the design of CNCs with great thermal stability and outstanding charring ability, and offers a new method for the preparation of high-performance flame-retardant PLA composites.

A highly effective novel phosphorus-containing Schiff base derivative flame retardant N,N′-bis[1-(salicylidene) methanephenylphosphonic acid]-1,2- ethylene diamine (SMAE) was successfully synthesized via the addition reaction between phenyl hypophosphite and N, N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine. It had great thermal stability (T5%, 271℃) and char forming ability (29.6 wt % at 700 °C), which was added to TPU at different additions to improve the flame retardant performance. Results showed that only 4% SMAE increased the limiting oxygen index value of TPU from 22.3% to 32%, passing UL 94 V-0 rating. Meanwhile, the peak heat release rate, average heat release rate and total heat release of TPU also decreased by 3%, 19% and 16%, respectively. The constituent and microscopic morphology of the residual char of TPU samples were observed by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), which indicated SMAE produced phosphinic acid to promote the formation of a more complete and dense char layer for TPU. The pyrolysis gas phase products were recorded by thermogravimetric Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR). The results showed that SMAE could produced PO· terminated the chain reaction and released inert gases (carbon dioxide and ammonia) to dilute combustible gases during combustion. Therefore, SMAE endows TPU with excellent flame retardancy.

Multifunctional hydrogels with transparency, ultraviolet (UV)-blocking, stretchable, self-healing, adhesive, antioxidant and antibacterial properties are promising materials for biomedical and relevant applications. However, preparation of these hydrogels at ambient environment without stimuli is still a challenge. Here, a series of hydrogels possessing ultrashort gelation time (~30 s) at room or cold temperature were fabricated based on self-catalytic Fe3+/Tannic acid-cellulose nanofiber (Fe3+/TA-CNF). Fe3+/TA-CNF formed stable redox pairs to activate ammonium persulfate (initiator), generating abundant free radicals to trigger the ultrafast polymerization of acrylic acid (AA). To improve the antibacterial ability of hydrogel, a bilayer hydrogel composite (NF@HG) composed of tetracycline hydrochloride (TH)-loaded electrospun nanofibers and hydrogel layer was fabricated via a mild casting method. The NF@HG exhibited enhanced antibacterial ability and the sustained release of TH can provide long-term antibacterial activity. Besides, cell viability results demonstrated that NF@HG was non-cytotoxic. Taken together, this strategy based on self-catalytic Fe3+/TA-CNF system may inspire new aspects on fast and economical preparation of multifunctional hydrogels or composites, which have attractive industrial applications for biomedical materials.

Electroconductive polystyrene (PS) composites with ideal flame-retardant properties are considered as potential electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. In this work, PS/silicon wrapped ammonium polyphosphate/multi-wall carbon nanotubes (PS/SiAPP/MWCNT) composites with segregated structure were synthesized via the methods of balling mill and hot-pressing. The obtained results revealed that the SiAPP and MWCNT were successfully introduced onto PS spheres and showed uniform distribution on the PS surface. The thermogravimetric analysis showed that PS/SiAPP/MWCNT containing 7 wt% MWCNT exhibited excellent thermal stability. Furthermore, the results of cone calorimeter test indicated that the heat release rate and total heat release of the PS/SiAPP/MWCNT containing a loading of 7 wt% MWCNT were reduced by 60.5% and 33.9%, respectively. In addition, the EMI shielding performance could reach 11 dB. Above results implied that the synergistic effect between the MWCNT and SiAPP effectively enhanced the flame retardant performance of the PS by promoting the generation of dense and continuous char layer to protect the PS from burning. The multiple reflection and adsorption are responsible for improved EMI shielding effectiveness. Therefore, segregated PS/SiAPP/MWCNT hybrid is an up-and-coming candidate for satisfactory EMI shielding materials with exceptional fire retardancy for electronic devices.

Multivariate data analysis (MVDA) is a powerful tool for analyzing complex datasets in biotechnology and bio-processing. The rapidly growing field of biotechnology involves the study and manipulation of living organisms for a range of applications, including healthcare, agriculture, and energy. Bio-processing, which involves the use of living organisms to manufacture products, is a critical component of biotechnology. This abstract explores the use of multivariate data analysis in biotechnology and bio-processing. The study highlights the various techniques used in MVDA, such as principal component analysis, cluster analysis, and partial least squares regression, and their applications in bioprocessing. The study reviews the potential of MVDA to improve the design and optimization of bioprocessing systems, including fermentation and downstream processing. It also discusses the benefits of using MVDA in bioprocessing, such as the ability to identify key process variables, reduce experimental time, and optimize product quality. The study concludes that MVDA is a powerful tool for the analysis of complex datasets in biotechnology and bio-processing, enabling the efficient and effective design and optimization of bioprocessing systems. The integration of MVDA techniques in bioprocessing can improve product quality, reduce costs, and accelerate the development of new biotechnology applications.

BACKGROUND Depression escalating public health concern and the modest efficacy of currently available treatments have prompted efforts to identify modifiable risk factors associated with depression symptoms. Physical inactivity, poor nutrition, or other lifestyle behaviors are among the potentially modifiable risk factors most consistently linked with depression. Past evidence regarding the single effect of physical activity (PA) or dietary quality (DQ) on reducing the risk of depression symptoms has been well-documented. However, the association of the joint effect of PA and DQ on depression symptoms has never been investigated in a representative sample of adults. OBJECTIVE This study investigates the association between PA and depression symptoms and between DQ and depression symptoms, and their combined effects on US adults. METHODS Data were obtained from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2007 to 2018 cycles. The primary exposures were DQ and PA, measured using the Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 and the metabolic equivalent (MET) minutes per week reported in questionnaires, respectively. Depression symptoms were defined as a 9-item Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) score of ≥10. We created 4 lifestyle categories: healthy diet and active individuals, unhealthy diet but active individuals, healthy diet but inactive individuals, and unhealthy diet and inactive individuals. Participants were considered to have a healthy diet if they fell within the 60th percentile of the HEI-2015 or to be active if they met the current guidelines for PA. A survey-multivariable logistic regression approach was used to model adjust the variables relevant to the associations, and an age-adjusted prevalence for depression symptoms was calculated following the NHANES guidelines. RESULTS In total, 19,295 participants represented a weighted number of 932.5 million adults aged 20 to 80 years in the noninstitutionalized US population. The total age-adjusted prevalence of depression symptoms among all respondents was 7.08% (1507/19,295). Of the respondents, 81.97% (15,816/19,295) met the PA recommendation and 26.79% (5170/19,295) scored at or above the 60th percentile on the HEI-2015. Depression symptoms were inversely associated with a higher level of PA (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 0.819, 95% CI 0.716-0.938) and healthy DQ (AOR 0.809, 95% CI 0.701-0.931), respectively. A healthy diet combined with recommended PA was associated with a significantly lower risk of depression symptoms (AOR 0.658, 95% CI 0.538-0.803) than those who consumed an unhealthy diet but were physically active (AOR 0.890, 95% CI 0.765-1.038) or consumed a healthy diet but were physically inactive (AOR 1.077, 95% CI 0.817-1.406). CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate that people with a healthy diet and recommended PA have a lower risk of depression symptoms than those with an unhealthy diet and a low level of PA. A healthy dietary habit and regular PA are potential precautions against depression.

Purpose: To summarize the experience of surgical treatment of children diagnosed with Currarino syndrome, with an emphasis on selection of optimal operative approach. Methods: The clinical materials of patients diagnosed with Currarino syndrome were recorded. Special attention was paid to the operative management, particularly the different routes for operation. The type of ARM was the critical point. Follow-up was conducted for at least 3 months, and the Rintala score was used for evaluation of bowel function.Results: The medical records of 26 patients were reviewed and listed in table one. Seven were male, and 19 were female, with a mean age of 19.38±13.80 months (ranging from 2 to 47 months). The anorectal malformation included 17 rectoperineal fistulae without an anus, four rectovestibular fistulae without an anus, two anal stenoses, one anal atresia, one rectourinary fistula without an anus, and one cloaca. The PS was taken in 23 cases. The SPS was taken in eight cases, and LPS was taken in another 15 patients. SPS group included three rectoperineal fistulae without an anus, one anal stenosis, one retraction of the rectum after an anoplasty for rectovestibular fistula without an anus, one anal atresia, one rectourinary fistula without an anus, and one cloaca. In the LPS group, there were 13 perineal fistulae without an anus，one displacement of the rectum and one retraction of the rectum respectively after an anoplasty for rectovestibular fistula without an anus. TA was used in one anal atresia with megacolon and presacral mass. AS was used in one rectovestibular fistula with a presacral mass. A lamina approach was chosen for one patient with an infective fistula secondary to a presacral mass in the spinal canal. The mean follow-up time was 39.48±26.84m, ranging from 6m to 145m. The Rintala score was16.74±2.93, ranging from 12 to 20.Conclusion: For a rectoperineal fistula, SPS or LPS could be used to reach a complete cutback of the posterior wall of the rectum and remove the presacral mass. For a rectovestibular fistula, the AS or LPS could be chosen. For anorectal stenosis, TA, SPS, or LPS could be used to excise the stenosed bowel segment and the presacral mass. TA is not so good for the exposure of the presacral mass, so for a larger one(＞5cm) or one connecting with the spinal canal, the LPS or SPS may be the favorite choice.

This report summarizes efforts undertaken in the area of drug delivery, with a look at further efforts made in the area of bacterial cellulose (BC) biomedical applications in general. There are many current methodologies (past and present) for the creation of BC membrane composites custom-engineered with drug delivery functionality, with brief consideration for very close applications within the broader category of biomedicine. The most emphasis was placed on the crucial aspects that open the door to the possibility of drug delivery or the potential for use as drug carriers. Additionally, consideration has been given to laboratory explorations as well as already established BC-drug delivery systems (DDS) that are either on the market commercially or have been patented in anticipation of future commercialization. The cellulose producing strains, current synthesis and growth pathways, critical aspects and intrinsic morphological features of BC were given maximum consideration, among other crucial aspects of BC DDS.

Purpose To evaluate the application value of two-dimensional shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) for non-invasive diagnosis of liver cirrhosis (LC) in patients with biliary atresia (BA) before Kasai portoenterostomy (KP), and the cutoff value of liver stiffness measurement (LSM) for diagnosing LC. Methods The clinical data of 51 patients with BA who were diagnosed via surgery and pathological results from May 2017 to December 2018 in the department of general surgery, Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University, were retrospectively analyzed. The liver tissue specimens obtained during KP were evaluated according to the METAVIR criteria. The LSM was obtained using the 2D-SWE technique before KP. Results There was a grade positive correlation between LSM and METAVIR staging, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was 0.432 (P = 0.002). The AUC for 2D-SWE diagnosing LC (METAVIR score S = 4) in patients with BA before KP was 0.843 (95% confidence interval 0.736 ~ 0.950). The best cutoff value was 16.05 kPa, and the corresponding sensitivity was 75.0%, specificity was 83.7%, positive predictive value (PPV) was 46.1%, negative predictive value (NPV) was 94.7%, and the accuracy was 82.4%. Conclusion 2D-SWE can be used to noninvasively diagnose LC in patients with BA before KP, and the cutoff value is 16.05 kPa.

The short beam shear performance of GLARE 3A-3/2 laminates with adhesive layers was investigated by combining the short beam test and the digital image correlation technique. The failure behavior was further analyzed based on finite element simulation and micro failure morphology. The results show an 8% and 58% difference in the short beam strength and bending displacement at failure of laminates along two orthogonal directions; The damage behavior of laminates is determined by the bottom unidirectional glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) layers. The two typical failure modes are matrix and fiber fracture in the GFRP layer caused by local bending deformation, and interlaminar delamination between GFRP layers; The distribution of surface strain [Formula: see text] indicates the damage initiation and evolution process. The simulation result of the finite element model established in ABAQUS/Explicit shows consistency with digital image correlation analysis, which provides an effective method to predict the damage behavior of specimens with different ply structures.

A rapid, sensitive and convenient method based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) was developed and validated for the simultaneous quantification of calycosin-7-O-β-d-glucoside (CCSG), ononin, calycosin, (6aR,11aR)-9,10-dimethoxypterocarpan-3-O-β-d-glucopyanoside (DPPG), and 7,2′-dihydroxy-3′,4′-dimethoxyisoflavan-7-O-β-d-glucopyanoside (DIFG) in rat plasma after oral administration of the methanol extraction from Radix Astragali. Theophylline played the role of internal standard (IS). Preparation of plasma samples by liquid-liquid extraction method with ethyl acetate after precipitation of protein with methanol. The analytes were detected with a triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometery (MS) in multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) mode and a positive ion electrospray ionization (ESI). The method was validated with the concentration ranges of 1.96–62.69 ng/mL for CCSG, 1.70–54.5 ng/mL for ononin, 1.85–59.06 ng/mL for calycosin, 2.14–137.24 ng/mL for DPPG and1.96–125.25 ng/mL for DIFG, respectively. The method had the lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) with 0.49, 0.21, 0.92, 1.07, and 0.98 ng/mL for CCSG, ononin, calycosin, DPPG and DIFG respectively, and the precision less than 10%. The RSD of the accuracy was in the range of −4.35–8.91%. The results may be helpful to provide more accurate references to clinical application of this herb.

Objective The purpose of this study was to analyze the outcomes of the combination of ultrasound (US)-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent definitive operation to manage complicated choledochal cyst in children. Methods This retrospective study included 6 children with choledochal cyst who underwent initial US-guided percutaneous external drainage and subsequent cyst excision with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy between January 2021 and September 2022. Patient characteristics, laboratory findings, imaging data, treatment details, and postoperative outcomes were evaluated. Results Mean age at presentation was 2.7 ± 2.2 (0.5–6.2) years, and 2 patients (2/6) were boys. Four patients (4/6) had a giant choledochal cyst with the widest diameter of ≥ 10 cm and underwent US-guided percutaneous biliary drainage on admission or after conservative treatments. The other 2 patients (2/6) underwent US-guided percutaneous transhepatic cholangio-drainage and percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage due to coagulopathy, respectively. Five patients (5/6) recovered well after US-guided percutaneous external drainage and underwent the definitive operation, whereas 1 patient (1/6) had liver fibrosis confirmed by Fibroscan and ultimately underwent liver transplantation 2 months after external drainage. The mean time from US-guided percutaneous external drainage to the definitive operation was 12 ± 9 (3–21) days. The average length of hospital stay was 24 ± 9 (16–31) days. No related complications of US-guided percutaneous external drainage occurred during hospitalization. At 10.2 ± 6.8 (1.0–18.0) months follow-up, all patients had a normal liver function and US examination. Conclusions Our detailed analysis of this small cohort suggests that US-guided percutaneous external drainage is technically feasible for choledochal cyst with giant cysts or coagulopathy in children, which may provide suitable conditions for subsequent definitive operation with a good prognosis. Alimentary tract duplication involving the rectum (ATD-R) is rare. The purpose of the study was to describe the features of pediatric ATD-R patients and propose a surgical management strategy.Nine consecutive children operated on for ATD-R at a tertiary center for pediatrics from January 2010 to June 2021 were retrospectively reviewed and followed up. Eighty-six children with the same diagnosis from the literature were reviewed to assist the investigation. Classifications of ATD-R consisted of cystic, tubular, and diverticular.Surgical treatment and histopathological examination identified six females and three males with ATD-R. Initial clinical symptoms included perianal lesions, abnormal discharge, and anorectal malformation (ARM). Apart from one tubular ATD-R patient with cloaca malformation, the other eight patients had normal-developed anorectum. Complete or partial lesion resection maintaining the integrity of the proper colorectum was a principle of surgery. Six patients were followed up for a median time of 71 (range 12-121) months with good prognoses. A surgical management strategy of ATD-R in children was proposed.ATD-R commonly occurred concurrently with normal-developed anorectum, seldom combined with ARM. ATD-R should be considered as a differential diagnosis in anorectal symptoms. The timely and appropriate operation was curative.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is regarded as one of the most prevalent neoplasms worldwide, and ubiquitination and N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification regulate the outgrowth of multiple cancers. This study attempted to explore the effect of ubiquitin-specific peptidases 29 (USP29) on the malignant proliferation of CRC cells via stabilizing Vir-like m6A methyltransferase associated (VIRMA/KIAA1429). First, upregulations of USP29, KIAA1429, and SRY-box transcription factor 8 (SOX8) were found in CRC tissues and cells through real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting. After transfection of si-USP29, the proliferation of CRC cells was evaluated by the cell counting kit-8, colony formation and 5-ethynyl-2’-deoxyuridine assays, and we observed that depletion of USP29 inhibited the proliferation of CRC cells. Co-immunoprecipitation confirmed the binding of USP29 to KIAA1429. Mechanically, USP29 mediated deubiquitination to stabilize the protein levels of KIAA1429, and KIAA1429 promoted the stability of SOX8 mRNA through m6A modification. Moreover, overexpression of KIAA1429 or SOX8 reversed the inhibitory effects of USP29 depletion on CRC cell proliferation. Finally, the xenograft tumor model revealed the promotive role of USP29 in the proliferation of CRC cells in vivo. Altogether, USP29 facilitates the malignant proliferation of CRC cells via upregulating the KIAA1429/SOX8 axis.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) might participate in the growth of cervical cancer (CC). In this research, we reconnoitered the characters of circ_0031027 in CC.Circ_0031027, microRNA-587 (miR-587), and suppressor of cytokine signaling 5 (SOCS5) abundances were distinguished by qRT-PCR and western blot. The cell functions were examined by colony formation assay, EdU assay, and transwell assay. The combined relationship of miR-587 and circ_0031027 or SOCS5 was identified by dual-luciferase reporter assay. Ultimately, the mice test was utilized to assess the part of circ_0031027.Circ_0031027 and SOCS5 were downregulated, and the miR-587 was upregulated in CC. For functional analysis, circ_0031027 overexpression repressed cell proliferation, cell migration, and invasion in CC cells. Circ_0031027 as a miR-587 sponge to adjust SOCS5. MiR-587 facilitated the advancement of CC cells by overturning SOCS5. In addition, circ_0031027 overexpression subdued tumor growth.Circ_0031027 inhibited the enlargement of CC by miR-587/SOCS5.

We describe an extensively drug-resistant Klebsiella michiganensis strain, Kmfe267, which was originally isolated from a renal abscess patient. The strain carries the blaNDM-5 gene, which encodes a New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase. The complete genome of the strain contains a 5.9-Mb chromosome and 5 plasmids.

Background.The purpose of this study was to explore the short-term efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with arterial chemoembolization for locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). Methods. We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 203 patients with LAGC who received neoadjuvant therapy from June 2019 to December 2021. The patients were divided into neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with arterial chemoembolization group (Combined group, n=102) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy group (Conventional group, n=101). The adverse events of chemotherapy, postoperative complications and pathological complete response (pCR) rate were compared between the two groups. The potential factors of influencing pCR were evaluated by univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. The univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate the potential factors affecting pCR. Results. 78.8% of patients were in clinical stage III before neoadjuvant therapy. 52.2% patients underwent surgery after receiving two cycles of neoadjuvant therapy. There were 21.2% patients with≥ grade 3 (CTCAE 4.0) adverse events of chemotherapy and 11.3% patients with Clavien-Dindo classification ≥ grade 3 postoperative complications. Compared with the conventional group, the combination group did not increase the adverse events of chemotherapy and postoperative complications. The pCR rate in the combined group was significantly higher than that in the conventional group (16.7% vs 4.95%, P=0.012). Multivariate analysis showed that arterial chemoembolization, pre-treatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and pre-treatment platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) were independent factors affecting pCR. Conclusion.Neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with arterial chemoembolization contributed to improving the pCR rate of LAGC patients. Arterial chemoembolization, pre-treatment NLR and pre-treatment PLR were also predictors of pCR.
