This study aimed to reuse groundnut oil processing by-product, groundnut cake (GNC) for the low-cost production of prodigiosin (PG) via microbial technology and to assess its novel potential application for the management of black pepper nematodes. Serratia marcescens TUN02 was found as the most active PG-producing strain. Various small-scale experiments conducted in flasks indicated that GNC at 1% may be used as the sole carbon/nitrogen source for cost-effective PG production by fermentation. Notably, no further commercial ingredients and salts are required to supplement into the culture medium of this fermentation. PG was further investigated for scale-up production in a 14-L bioreactor system and PG was produced at high yield (6886 mg/L) with large-scale volume (4 L) in a short cultivation time (10 h). PG was then purified and its nematicidal activity was evaluated and showed effective inhibition of juveniles and egg hatching of Meloidogyne incognita species, harmful on black pepper, with low IC50 values of 0.2 and 0.32 mg/mL, respectively. The simple medium containing 1% GNC is the first report of cost-effective biosynthesis of PG, as well as potential in vitro anti-egg hatching activity of PG. These results indicated the potential application of GNC for low-cost bioproduction of PG for promising and novel use in the management of black pepper nematodes.

The adoption of online learning modalities has increasingly become prevalent, particularly with the advent of COVID-19, aiming to ensure student access to learning materials. This significant shift towards offering online educational formats compels educational institutions to alter their approach and develop curricula to guarantee an optimal student experience and satisfaction within the online environment. The aim of this research is to comprehensively examine the key factors that significantly impact the satisfaction of undergraduate students with online learning in Vietnamese universities. The quantitative research methodology was implemented through the collection of surveys from a total of 437 Vietnamese students. Utilizing the PLS-SEM statistical approach, the findings reveal that technology, communication, course, outcome, and motivation for learning have significant positive influences on students' satisfaction with online education during the COVID-19 pandemic, while the effect of instructors' attitude and the sudden change from traditional to online classes have been found with as nonsignificant. Valuable implications and practical recommendations are suggested for educational organizations and institutions in Vietnam to enhance specific activities that promote students' satisfaction with online learning and improve teaching methods provided by instructors. In this article, a strongly balanced panel data during 1997-2014 of 10 ASEAN countries and the Generalized Least Squares (GLS) estimation technique have been employed. This is to identify the factors inducing foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into the area. The estimated results vary across the groups of country members. For the ASEAN 10, the deterministic factors of FDI are the Real GDP Growth, low Inflation, high Trade Openness Ratio, the Improvement of Infrastructure, and the Political Stability. This is consistent with the theoretical model of the determinant of FDI. Unexpectedly, the Exchange Rate Regime and the Labor Productivity have had a negative impact on FDI flows to the region. In addition, the Asian financial crisis 1997 has had a great negative impact on FDI inflows into the area. For the ASEAN 6, the attractive factors of FDI inflows are low Inflation and the Improvement of Infrastructure. The Asian financial crisis 1997 has also had a great negative impact on FDI flows to ASEAN 6 countries. For the ASEAN 4, the Improvement of Infrastructure and the Labor Productivity have strongly induced FDI flows. However, the Exchange Rate Regime has not encouraged FDI flows to the region like the case of ASEAN 6. And, the Asian financial crisis 1997 has not reduced the FDI flows to the four.

The use of RNA-sequencing has garnered much attention in recent years for characterizing and understanding various biological systems. However, it remains a major challenge to gain insights from a large number of RNA-seq experiments collectively, due to the normalization problem. Normalization has been challenging due to an inherent circularity, requiring that RNA-seq data be normalized before any pattern of differential (or non-differential) expression can be ascertained; meanwhile, the prior knowledge of non-differential transcripts is crucial to the normalization process. Some methods have successfully overcome this problem by the assumption that most transcripts are not differentially expressed. However, when RNA-seq profiles become more abundant and heterogeneous, this assumption fails to hold, leading to erroneous normalization. We present a normalization procedure that does not rely on this assumption, nor prior knowledge about the reference transcripts. This algorithm is based on a graph constructed from intrinsic correlations among RNA-seq transcripts and seeks to identify a set of densely connected vertices as references. Application of this algorithm on our synthesized validation data showed that it could recover the reference transcripts with high precision, thus resulting in high-quality normalization. On a realistic data set from the ENCODE project, this algorithm gave good results and could finish in a reasonable time. These preliminary results imply that we may be able to break the long persisting circularity problem in RNA-seq normalization.

Aurora A kinase is a master mitotic regulator whose functions are controlled by several regulatory interactions and post-translational modifications. It is frequently dysregulated in cancer, making Aurora A inhibition a very attractive antitumor target. However, recently uncovered links between Aurora A, cellular metabolism and redox regulation are not well understood. In this study, we report a novel mechanism of Aurora A regulation in the cellular response to oxidative stress through CoAlation. A combination of biochemical, biophysical, crystallographic and cell biology approaches revealed a new and, to our knowledge, unique mode of Aurora A inhibition by CoA, involving selective binding of the ADP moiety of CoA to the ATP binding pocket and covalent modification of Cys290 in the activation loop by the thiol group of the pantetheine tail. We provide evidence that covalent CoA modification (CoAlation) of Aurora A is specific, and that it can be induced by oxidative stress in human cells. Oxidising agents, such as diamide, hydrogen peroxide and menadione were found to induce Thr 288 phosphorylation and DTT-dependent dimerization of Aurora A. Moreover, microinjection of CoA into fertilized mouse embryos disrupts bipolar spindle formation and the alignment of chromosomes, consistent with Aurora A inhibition.Altogether, our data reveal CoA as a new, rather selective, inhibitor of Aurora A, which locks this kinase in an inactive state via a “dual anchor” mechanism of inhibition that might also operate in cellular response to oxidative stress. Finally and most importantly, we believe that these novel findings provide a new rationale for developing effective and irreversible inhibitors of Aurora A, and perhaps other protein kinases containing appropriately conserved Cys residues.

Yellow phosphorus is used widely in the world for production of phosphoric acid, various phosphates, flame retardant, detergent, water treatment, metal surface treatment, etc. After the production of yellow phosphorus, a large amount of phosphorus sludge is discharged to environment, causing environment pollution. This work focused on treatment of yellow phosphorus slag (YPS) and application of it as an absorbent for chromium (VI) ion and methylene blue. The YPS was first washed with water to remove phosphoferrite (FeP) and impurities and then being milled and transferred to a float sorting system to obtain YPS particles. The characteristics of YPS particles were determined by inductively coupled plasma-mass-spectrometry (ICP-MS), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), infrared spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), zeta potential, and nitrogen adsorption methods. The YPS particles were retreated with NaOH, HNO3, and EDTA solutions to evaluate the influence of these agents on metal ion and organic compound adsorption ability by YPS. The adsorption parameters of chromium (VI) ion and methylene blue (MB) by treated YPS particles were recognized by the ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectrometer. The effects of temperature, pH solution, and initial concentration of absorbed substances on the adsorption ability were investigated. The adsorption isotherms and adsorption kinetics of chromium (VI) ion and MB by YPS particles were also determined. The obtained results confirmed that the green technology used to treat the YPS2 particles is suitable to obtain an effective absorbent. The adsorption efficiency of YPS2 particles for removal of chromium (VI) ions is smaller than that for removal of MB in aqueous solutions. The adsorption isotherm of MB adsorption process is complied with the Langmuir isotherm while the adsorption kinetic fits well with the pseudo-second-order reaction model. The thermodynamic parameters of MB adsorption processed on YPS2 were calculated and discussed.

In this paper, the chromium, Cr (VI), ion adsorption ability of oyster shell samples collected from two sea regions in Vietnam (Phu Yen province and Quang Ninh province) was investigated and compared. The oyster shell samples were calcined at different temperatures and denatured by using ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA). The Cr (VI) ion adsorption ability of the prismatic (PP) and nacreous (NP) shell layers of oysters was also evaluated. The characteristics of oyster shell samples before and after treatment were determined by using analysis methods including XRD, IR, BET, UV-Vis, and FESEM. The Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, and Dubinin–Radushkevich models and fit statistic equations were used to study the adsorption isotherms of Cr (VI) ion adsorption by oyster shells. The Cr (VI) ions adsorption kinetic has been set up using four reaction models consisting of first-order, pseudo-first-order, second-order, and pseudo-second-order reaction models. Effects of experimental factors on the Cr (VI) ion adsorption process using oyster shells were also investigated and discussed in this work.

We deployed a helicopter with an infrared optical gas imaging camera to detect hydrocarbon emissions from 3,428 oil and gas facilities (including 3,225 producing oil and gas well pads) in Utah’s Uinta Basin during winter and spring 2018. We also surveyed 419 of the same well pads from the ground. Winter conditions led to poor contrast between emission plumes and the ground, leading to a detection limit for the aerial survey that was between two and six times worse than a previous summertime survey. Because the ground survey was able to use the camera’s high-sensitivity mode, the rate of detected emission plumes was much higher in the ground survey (31% of all surveyed well pads) relative to the aerial survey (0.5%), but colder air temperatures appeared to impair plume detection in the ground survey as well. The aerial survey cost less per facility visited, but the ground survey cost less per emission plume detected. Well pads with detected emissions during the ground and aerial surveys had higher oil and gas production, were younger, were more likely to be oil well pads, and had more liquid storage tanks per pad relative to the entire surveyed population. The majority of observed emission plumes were from liquid storage tanks (75.9% of all observed plumes), including emissions from pressure relief valves and thief hatches on the tank or from piping that connects to the tank. Well pads with control devices to reduce emissions from tanks (combustors or vapor recovery units) were more likely to have detected emissions. This finding does not imply that the control devices themselves were not functioning properly. Instead, gas was escaping into the atmosphere before it reached control devices. Pads with control devices tended to be newer and have higher oil and gas production, which probably explains their higher rate of detected emissions.

The strong development of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution along with the digital transformation period increasingly requires quality accounting human resources. The transition from the learning environment to the workplace becomes more difficult not only for students but also for businesses in the recruitment process. Graduates must identify both knowledge and professional skills to be able to meet the demands of employers, along with the demands of future digital technology (Quynh Lan et al., 2018). The article is based on an overview of previous studies, identifying elements of skills and knowledge of students majoring in accounting and auditing; At the same time, measure the awareness of learners as well as employers about these identification factors and explore the gap in awareness between the two subjects. Qualitative research methods and quantitative research methods are used and results from the survey using questionnaires and surveys with accounting and auditing students trained in the same major are presented. with employers in Vietnam. The results from the Indenpent-Samples T Test showed different parameters in measurement from employers and from accounting and auditing students, from which the authors made some comments and recommendations to increase Enhance students' knowledge and skills from both the perspective of schools as well as from recruiting businesses. To elucidate how the proprotein convertase subtilisin kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitor alirocumab modulates lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] plasma levels, the authors performed a series of Lp(a) uptake studies in primary human hepatocytes and dermal fibroblasts and measured Lp(a) secretion from human hepatocytes. They found that Lp(a) cellular uptake occurred in a low-density lipoprotein receptor–independent manner. Neither PCSK9 nor alirocumab altered Lp(a) internalization. By contrast, the secretion of apolipoprotein (a) from human hepatocytes was sharply increased by PCSK9, an effect that was reversed by alirocumab. They propose that PCSK9 does not significantly modulate Lp(a) catabolism, but rather enhances the secretion of Lp(a) from liver cells.
