201. Late Miocene high-sulphidation epithermal gold deposits of the Aruntani district, southern Peru.

- Abstract
The Santa Rosa deposit has produced 150 000 oz Au since 2002 while the larger Cerro Tucari deposit is in the initial stage of mining, total production for 2004 being projected as 200 000 oz Au. Ongoing exploration is focused on three newly defined target areas. Atypical magmatic rocks in the district include rhyolitic dome complexes and typical igneous rocks are andesitic stratovolcanoes. The 700+ km2, NW-striking mining district is defined by hydrothermally altered volcanic rocks with at least five major hydrothermal centres. Deposit location is controlled by fault intersection. At Santa Rosa, gold is located along the margin of a rhyolitic dome and associated tuffs, and appears to have been introduced during events associated with crackle brecciation. Sulphides are mostly oxidised. Reserves are 5 000 000 t at 1.53 g/t Au. At Cerro Tucari, alteration was related to late-stage intrusion of dacites into a stratovolcano.
