Aim/Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the extant research on data science education (DSE) to identify the existing gaps, opportunities, and challenges, and make recommendations for current and future DSE. Background: There has been an increase in the number of data science programs especially because of the increased appreciation of data as a multidisciplinary strategic resource. This has resulted in a greater need for skills in data science to extract meaningful insights from data. However, the data science programs are not enough to meet the demand for data science skills. While there is growth in data science programs, they appear more as a rebranding of existing engineering, computer science, mathematics, and statistics programs. Methodology: A scoping review was adopted for the period 2010-2021 using six scholarly multidisciplinary databases: Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and the AIS Basket of eight journals. The study was narrowed down to 91 research articles and adopted a classification coding framework and correlation analysis for analysis. Contribution: We theoretically contribute to the growing body of knowledge about the need to scale up data science through multidisciplinary pedagogies and disciplines as the demand grows. This paves the way for future research to understand which programs can provide current and future data scientists the skills and competencies relevant to societal needs. Findings: The key results revealed the limited emphasis on DSE, especially in non-STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines. In addition, the results identified the need to find a suitable pedagogy or a set of pedagogies because of the multidisciplinary nature of DSE. Further, there is currently no existing framework to guide the design and development of DSE at various education levels, leading to sometimes inadequate programs. The study also noted the importance of various stakeholders who can contribute towards DSE and thus create opportunities in the DSE ecosystem. Most of the research studies reviewed were case studies that presented more STEM programs as compared to non-STEM. Recommendations for Practitioners: We recommend CRoss Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISPDM) as a framework to adopt collaborative pedagogies to teach data science. This research implies that it is important for academia, policymakers, and data science content developers to work closely with organizations to understand their needs. Recommendations for Researchers: We recommend future research into programs that can provide current and future data scientists the skills and competencies relevant to societal needs and how interdisciplinarity within these programs can be integrated. Impact on Society: Data science expertise is essential for tackling societal issues and generating beneficial effects. The main problem is that data is diverse and always changing, necessitating ongoing (up)skilling. Academic institutions must therefore stay current with new advances, changing data, and organizational requirements. Industry experts might share views based on their practical knowledge. The DSE ecosystem can be shaped by collaborating with numerous stakeholders and being aware of each stakeholder's function in order to advance data science internationally. Future Research: The study found that there are a number of research opportunities that can be explored to improve the implementation of DSE, for instance, how can CRISPDM be integrated into collaborative pedagogies to provide a fully comprehensive data science curriculum?

Entrepreneurial higher education institutions (HEIs) have gained significant traction, both in theory and practice. The concept has evolved from academic entrepreneurship, which gained prominence in the 1990s, into a more comprehensive notion at institutional level and has been an influencing factor for governmental decisions and the region's economic development. This study seeks to present an overview of the evolution of entrepreneurial HEI research and provide a description of the structures characterizing it. This paper presents an in-depth examination and analysis of the current state of research and published literature related to entrepreneurial HEIs. A descriptive bibliometric analysis coupled with content analysis is presented, incorporating citations included in Scopus' multi-disciplinary database over the last 25 years. Two software packages--VOS viewer and Bibliometrix R were employed to probe the research questions and create visualizations of the bibliometric networks. Thematic mapping of the multifaceted research field is illustrated and emerging trends of are identified. Findings suggest that the research on entrepreneurial HEI has been pioneered by USA followed by UK and other European countries. Moreover, the research seems to be fragmented and more focused on only entrepreneurial universities. Future research needs to consider colleges and smaller institutions alongside larger universities. Also, further steps need to be undertaken to encourage and enable cross-border international collaboration, so as to draw learning together from different national and regional contexts.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate attractiveness of internship advertisements to the prospective applicants through the lens of employer branding. By giving attention to internship attractiveness, universities and companies expand current collaborations around internship provision to enhance student internship experiences, satisfaction and employment prospects and to foster long-term sustainability of internship programs. Design/methodology/approach: The study used a mixed-methods design employing a concurrent triangulation strategy. The authors conducted a content analysis of 94 internship listings published in the largest Russian job portal, HeadHunter, and collected surveys from 274 prospective interns. Findings: The study shows a mismatch between employer branding strategies and prospective interns' perceptions of employer attractiveness. Companies emphasize economic value and visual identity as well as functional attributes, while prospective interns prioritize development value and symbolic attributes. The findings suggest internship advertisements do not appeal to potential applicants. Research limitations/implications: The results are limited to business students from specific universities in Russia, so further research is needed to include students with different majors and from other countries. The study is also limited to advertisements available via a large online job portal. A comparative analysis of effectiveness of various communication channels for internship promotion could yield useful results. Practical implications: Career center advisors, academic program directors and internship coordinators should work with company leaders, human resources and marketing decision-makers, and recruitment specialists to better understand interns' drivers of attraction and audit the internship advertisements. Employers could use the study results to strengthen recruiting messages and, hence, attractiveness of the employer brand to potential interns. Originality/value: The study contributes by applying the employer branding theory to an understudied population of interns, hence providing new insights into internships as collaboration between universities and companies. By focusing on internship positions, which differ from full-time permanent positions across many aspects, including the positions' duration, pay, supervision and purpose, the study assists in understanding the distinct drivers of attraction of interns, which are missing from published research on the topic.

Purpose: Nowadays, networks are the basic core of social organization and interaction; consequently, networking has become an indispensable requirement in today's societies. In education, the development of different types of collaborative networks has been observed, leading, in recent years, to the creation of educational macro-networks that generate links between schools and different types of institutions. Therefore, this study consists of a systematic review to examine the most relevant findings on this type of educational macro-networks. The authors' objectives were: to examine the main characteristics of this type of networks; to analyze the consequences they cause; and to determine which aspects contribute to or hinder their construction and development. Design/methodology/approach: A bibliographic search was carried out in "Web of Science," "SCOPUS" and "Education Resources Information Center," which yielded a total of 29 studies that were analyzed thematically using Nvivo software. Findings: Among the most noteworthy results are: the wide variety of existing structures; the benefits they generate in terms of learning outcomes, educational equity and the reduction of inequalities; and the influence exerted by the type of leadership and policies in the development of this macro-networks. Finally, future lines of research and policy implications for practice are highlighted. Originality/value: In this society, networks have become the basic core of an organization and the new form of social interaction. As a result, networks have begun to play a fundamental role in today's societies, even permeating various spheres such as education. In this context, it is essential to analyse this type of relationship in the field of education in order to truly understand its implications in this sector as well as its development and structure.

In this paper, a key node mining algorithm of entropy-CRITIC combined weighted GRA-TOPSIS method is proposed, which is based on the network structure features. First, the method obtained multi-dimensional data of students' identities, seating relationships, social relationships, and so on to build a database. Then, the seating similarity among students was used to construct the in-class social networks and analyze the structural characteristics of them. Finally, the CRITIC and entropy weight method was introduced for obtaining the combined weight values and the GRA-TOPSIS multi-decision fusion algorithm to mine the key student nodes that have negative impact. The experiments showed that the algorithm of this paper can evaluate students objectively based on their classroom social networks, providing technical support for process-oriented comprehensive quality education evaluation.

In the present digital age, students and professionals can interact and collaborate anywhere in the world through multiple means of communication. This article analyzes the scientific evidence of intercultural competencies in higher education from January 2016 to August 2021 out of the publications available in the "Web of Science" and "Scopus" databases. Inclusion and exclusion criteria resulted in 325 articles being selected for review. The findings denote the relevance of this thematic area in teaching language, international experiences, virtuality, and collaborative learning. The approach with the highest incidence was qualitative research for case study designs, and the research trends proposed by the authors highlight intercultural education and virtual interaction to support global collaboration. The present work describes the studies carried out in this field in the last six years and aims to be valuable for future research related to educational innovation, the development of intercultural competencies, and international cooperation.

Several studies with quantitative, qualitative or theoretical approaches have been carried out, focusing on the application of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in the educational sector. However, despite the literature on the subject, it is difficult to draw an overview of the use of the BSC in this sector. In order to fill this gap, our research carried out a systematic literature review (SLR) on the BSC methodology implemented in the educational sector. The Web of Science and Scopus databases are used as a source of article collection. A bibliometric analysis was performed using 65 articles extracted from these databases. The results suggest that the most discussed topics within the study are: 1) the diversity of the BSC in the education sector; 2) strategic management with the BSC; 3) statistical methods to manage the BSC and 4) the strategy map of the BSC. The qualitative approach was dominant in the analy/sed studies, but the reasonable number of studies with quantitative approaches is worth attention. The study contributes to the literature by reviewing prominent cited references and documents that cited them and the results provide the landscapes and research gaps for the main lines of research for further development.

The balanced scorecard (BSC) is a mission-oriented and strategy-focused performance management tool for educational institutions. The study reviews the literature on the implementation of the BSC by different educational institutions as a strategic performance management. After a comprehensive review of the literature, we analyzed the documents based on the publication trends during the years, authors' affiliations by countries, sources from which the documents have been published, most frequently used keywords in the documents, and the highest cited documents in the Scopus database. A bibliometric mapping analysis was used to construct and visualize the bibliometric networks. We found that 267 documents that were published in the sources are indexed by Scopus. Finally, gaps in the relevant literature are identified, leading to several directions for future research.

In this mixed methods analysis of a dataset she developed, Giuditta Fontana explores how formal intrastate peace processes have addressed reforms of formal education since the end of the Cold War. Looking at the frequency of reforms of formal education, the context for their inclusion, and the framing of their aims, she finds that intrastate political agreements circumscribe the peacebuilding potential of education because they rarely include education as a component, their geopolitical context and broader content are not clearly associated with the inclusion of education reforms, and education reforms are primarily framed as contributing to security and conflict management rather than long-term peacebuilding. With fundamental implications for scholarship and policy, this article shows that peace agreements' focus on the promotion of negative peace rather than more ambitious positive peace is an obstacle to realizing the peacebuilding potential of education in conflict-affected contexts.

Dual certification programs are proliferating as the principal means of preparing teachers for inclusive practice. Drawing on the 1,408 university-based teacher education programs on the 2019 Title II database, we examined the institutional website discourse for every program offering prospective teachers the opportunity to earn a general and special education license. One-quarter of these websites reflected discourse conveying inclusion as a reform, transformational, and equity strategy for teaching; three-quarters limited discourse to the practical benefit of earning two licenses, absent any elaboration regarding inclusive teaching. This raises questions regarding whether these programs serve a robust reform function in orienting prospective teachers to inclusive practice or instead a transactional function that maintains the traditional binary relationship between general and special education.

Faculty in the information systems (IS) and information technology (IT) fields are faced with the challenge to keep their curriculum relevant and current. What was taught two years ago will often be outdated and faculty must constantly update their curriculum on which courses should be taught as well as what should be taught within a particular course. This research continues a fifteen-year effort to help understand employer needs in terms of the skills they desire new hires to possess upon employment. This is the sixth version of this employer survey. The survey continues to report the responses of over 500 IS/IT professionals and was expanded to ask additional questions related to salary information. In addition, based on feedback from open-ended questions in a prior survey, new categories were added to the survey. Several key results and changes from prior surveys include that VR/AR (virtual reality/augmented reality) platforms showed the highest anticipated growth rate for all operating platforms in the next two years, analytics tools such as Apache Spark showed high growth rate, and JavaScript maintained the first position for programming languages.

This systematic review aims to identify the research trend and gap of strategy-based instruction research in second or foreign language domain from 2000 to 2021. The study involves both bibliometric and content analysis. To gain an overall understanding of the research on strategy-based instruction, this study employs keywords co-occurrence analysis to analyze data obtained from Web of Science and Scopus. The content analysis coded four themes: learning context, research objects, intervention framework, and indicators. The bibliometric findings offered analytical information on keywords, sources, and regions of selected documents, revealing the latest research focuses. The findings of content analysis further explored each document and provided in-depth data concerning learning contexts and research objects. The content analysis also indicates characteristics of successful SBI design by outlining the contexts and implementations of interventions. The results of this study can be useful resources to researchers intending to conduct research in SBI field, since the study discussed both what has been done (existing research focuses) and what needs to be done (research trends and research gap).

In the last 19 years (2003-2021), research on genre-based approaches (GBAs) to writing pedagogy has been accumulating in the fields of English as a second language (ESL) and English as a foreign language (EFL). This review mapped existing literature to identify research trends and provide a research agenda for future GBAs. This study employed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines and identified 52 published articles and 2 unpublished doctoral theses via a structured keyword search on Web of Science, Scopus, ERIC, Google Scholar, and ProQuest in the fields of teaching English to speakers of other languages, language learning, and education. The results show that GBA is now widely used in teaching English academic writing to ESL/EFL tertiary/graduate students. The main research findings include: (1) the top five countries in the number of paper publications are China (i.e., five), the United States (i.e., five), Japan (e.g., 4), Thailand (e.g., four), and Sweden (e.g., four); (2) the top four authors in the number of paper publications are Hyland (i.e., two), Lu (i.e., two), Negretti (i.e., two), and Pineh (i.e., two); and (3) the top three most strengthen keywords are writing pedagogy, genre-based approach, and English for academic purpose. This study also discusses the theoretical and practical implications.

This paper is designed to explore the current status of Chinese EFL teachers' use of digital resources in doing research and its influential factors. It classifies digital resources into six types aligned to the research process and uses the revised TAM to find out and explain its influential factors. A total of 180 teachers were investigated via the online questionnaire. The results show the Chinese EFL teachers' use of six-type resources is at an intermediate low level. Among them, the type of resources for getting data analysis software is most frequently used; the type of resources for managing literature is least frequently used. However, teachers' intention to use the resources is relatively high. Frequency of doing research, facilitating condition (FC), and perceived ease of use of resources (PEOU) are the direct predictive factors for EFL teachers' actual use of digital resources (AU). Self-efficacy in using resources, ICT skill, and FC are significant direct predictors of PEOU, and they are indirect predictors of AU.

Keywords are important bibliometric tools for classifying, accessing, and summarizing research. Citations to the top 10 Google Scholar (GS) Profiles were retrieved for 20 kinesiology-related subject labels/keywords. Total citations to top scholars were largest for the disciplinary keywords "physical activity," "exercise," "physical education," "sport science," "sports," "exercise science," "sport," and "kinesiology." Citations to top scholars using professionally aligned keywords were in "sports medicine" and "coaching." The results confirm previously reported trends of slow growth of use of the term kinesiology primarily in the United States, even though the highest citations were to the "physical activity" keyword that is the focus of the field in the United States. Strong citation counts to the "exercise," "physical education," and "sport science" keywords likely result from the diversity of research interests in the field throughout the world. Inconsistency of citation and use of keywords and bibliometric subject areas contribute to slow recognition and access to kinesiology research.

While primary studies on technology-mediated informal foreign language (FL) learning are increasingly popular, research synthesis on self-directed FL learning in incidental, out-of-class contexts are scarce. Therefore, this article seeks to address this gap in the literature through a qualitative research synthesis (QRS) on language learning in the digital wilds; that is, digitally mediated FL learning in which the main goal of the activity is not related to language learning. The QRS involved a search of the Scopus and Web of Science databases for relevant literature between 2010 and 2021. Thirteen studies aligned with the inclusion criteria, and data from these studies were extracted for thematic analysis. Five themes were identified according to the analysis: diversity in digital practices; development of FL vocabulary; exposure to authentic language; opportunities for interaction and collaboration; and difficulty understanding FL input. These themes were analyzed using a framework by Reinders and Hubbard (2013), in order to understand the affordances and constraints of the digital wilds. Five affordances and two constraints were identified, which have implications for learner autonomy in computer-assisted language learning (CALL).

This systematic review focuses on issues and challenges related to pre-service English teachers (PSETs) in Malaysia for the past decade. Even though improving English language teachers' quality is a primary agenda in the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025, review studies documenting the recent issues and developments of pre-service teachers who are just joining the teaching profession are still lacking. Combining Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) with published review guidelines, the review utilised seven databases to look for current research. Subsequently, the final search yielded twenty articles for the qualitative synthesis using ATLAS.ti. It has been determined that the PSETs in Malaysia experience issues and challenges in terms of: (1) teaching competency; (2) professional development; (3) support; (4) the disparity between theories and classroom practices; (5) classroom management; and (6) transition stage in becoming a teacher. This study concludes that future teacher education needs to prepare trainee teachers to be more resilient and adaptable to new environments, challenges and unforeseen circumstances. Finally, several recommendations were highlighted for further studies.

Literature survey concerning the Learner Corpus Research (LCR) in the last 20 years has shown a paucity of studies involving specialised/discipline-specific text. Since the use of discipline-specific academic writing learner corpora is useful in determining the language pattern within the English for Specific Academic Purposes (ESAP) context, this paper presents a review of specialised LCR based on journal articles from the Web of Science database and the Google scholar, reference books and relevant websites to address the gap both globally and within the Malaysian context for future needs. The review suggests the need for more specialised/genre-specific or discipline-based learner corpus studies employing the non-native novice versus native novice and expert comparative method in both global and Malaysian contexts, with more studies executed in relation to specialised learner corpora in the latter. In relation to linguistic aspect, the understanding of lexical bundles' communicative function can be attempted through the analysis from the core word to the surrounding pattern or discourse. The use of learner corpus as a pedagogical instrument needs also to be well-accepted and executed to enhance the teaching and learning of academic writing in ESAP classrooms via Data-Driven Learning approach or corpus-related activities.

Knowledge of collocations is essential for English academic writing. However, there are few academic collocation referencing tools available and there is a pressing need to develop more. In this paper, we will introduce the ACOP (Academic Collocations and Phrases Search Engine), a newly developed corpus-based tool to search large academic corpora. Using the AntCorGen corpus crawling tool, 100,000 articles from 10 academic areas were downloaded from the PLOS One journal database. A multidisciplinary 500-million-word academic corpus was thus created. Our team further developed the ACOP to allow users to search for collocations and phrases in the academic corpus that we compiled. Additionally, this new tool will allow learners to search for not only bigrams but also for three- to five-word strings. Learners can further search using parts of speech. To validate whether the new tool can assist EFL learners in finding appropriate academic collocations, we compared this tool with BYU's state-of-the-art COCA corpus search tool. The 35 students who participated in the study were randomly divided into two groups. One group used BYU's COCA tool and the other used the ACOP tool. Both groups were asked to identify suitable collocates for 25 gap-fill questions. Paired t-tests and independent t-tests were used to analyze the data. The results indicated that both groups showed a significant improvement in the posttest when they had access to the collocation retrieval systems. However, statistically, the results showed no significant difference between the two tools, as they were equally useful in helping the students find appropriate collocates. According to the users' surveys, compared with the COCA group, the participants in the ACOP group found the ACOP easier to use and the interface was clearer and simpler. The Mann-Whitney U tests of the two groups showed significant differences in the aspect of the interface. The preliminary results indicated that the ACOP can assist EFL learners in finding suitable academic collocations and phrases, and the users' surveys showed positive results.

This study presents the findings from the literature review of 30 empirical research articles on the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Geographic and Environmental Education published in the last decade (2010-2020). Using systematic review methodology, we recorded and synthesized current knowledge from the literature on how the use of GIS in education is assessed. The findings show that over the past decade, the construct variables used to evaluate the use of GIS in education have focused on three thematic categories (Themes): Learning (44.4%), Affective Elements (40.7%), and Behavior (14.8%). A certified instrument had been used to evaluate the data of 30% of the research conducted in the articles, while three new measuring tools had been created by the original researchers. Analysis of the findings suggests that the use of GIS in Geographic and Environmental education is heterogeneous, sparse, and fragmented. We propose that a more systematic framework be implemented in order to make future studies more effective. The value of our study is that it provides an analytical framework which can be used when evaluating the use of GIS in education, and could also provide information on the development of new assessment methods and measuring tools.

This research presents an exploratory and descriptive study on the use of knowledge organization processes and systems in the context of repositories, published in journals indexed in databases between 2015 and 2020. The authors of these papers do not necessarily publish in specific events and journals in the Knowledge Organization area, but rather in the Library and Information Science arena. The study has been carried out in four steps: 1. Search, retrieval and selection of articles; 2. Development of a data codebook; 3. Identification and codification of topics; and, 4. Analysis of the data extracted. A final sample of 33 articles was defined. The methodology applied to determine the theme of journal articles is presented in detail, including the use of the Classification System for Knowledge Organization Literature (CSKOL). The illustrative data of disciplinarity and interdisciplinarity present in the articles object of this study are shown and discussed, regarding the predominance of certain ranges of CSKOL and regarding the diversity of the representative themes of the contents. It is possible to conclude that the use of CSKOL proves to be a suitable lens for analysing and understanding the literature on the field of knowledge organization in institutional repositories. It is shown that, in these 33 articles the themes of knowledge organization are combined with interdisciplinary themes from other areas of knowledge. In our opinion, this enriches and improves theoretical support for research development.

Introduction: Although death is a reality inherent to human life, it continues to be a taboo phenomenon that generates unease in some contexts such as education. Its limited curricular approach and the personal implications of its treatment in the classroom constitute some difficulties for greater inclusion in the different stages. Method: The aim of this study is a bibliometric analysis of the scientific output on the pedagogy of death in Scopus. The sample consisted of 139 papers to which different bibliometric techniques were applied (bibliographic coupling, co-authorship, co-citation, co-occurrence). Results: The results revealed a growing scientific production, with Testoni as the most prolific author. As potential lines of development, it is worth highlighting the implementation of training schemes for teachers to be able to educate about death, as well as educational activities (with different methodologies and resources) in order to work on reducing anxiety and fear of death. Discussion and Conclusion: The relevance of the study of scientific production is concluded to establish collaborations between researchers and develop new lines of research on Pedagogy of Death. Nowadays, hardly anyone working in the field of foreign language teaching and learning can imagine life without machine translation (MT) tools. Thanks to the rapid development of artificial intelligence, MT now most widely assumes a new form, the so-called Neural Machine Translation (NMT), which offers the potential for a wide application in foreign language learning (FLL). Therefore, the purpose of this review study is to explore different approaches to the efficient implementation of NMT into FLL and provide specific pedagogical implications for best practices. The PRISMA methodology for systematic reviews and meta-analyses was strictly followed. The search was conducted in two well-established databases, specifically Scopus and Web of Science, to generate sufficient data from research articles for further analysis. The findings of this systematic review indicate that NMT is an efficient tool for developing both productive (speaking and writing) and receptive (reading and listening) language skills, including mediation skills, which are relevant for translation. Moreover, the results show that NMT tools are especially suitable for advanced learners of L2, whose higher proficiency level enables them to critically reflect on the output of NMT texts more than beginners or lower-intermediate learners. Thus, the findings of this review study reveal that NMT has valuable implications for L2 pedagogy since it can serve as a very powerful online reference tool for FLL provided that teachers introduce students to its benefits but also limitations by implementing various teaching approaches.

Research Findings: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the relationship between the home environment and the development of English as a second/foreign language for young Asian children. A systematic search of relevant databases generated 22 eligible studies published between 2001 and 2020 (N[subscript total] = 3,953 children; M[subscript age] = 2.7-6 years), of which 12 (N[subscript total] = 2,164 children; M[subscript age] = 2.7-6 years) were subject to meta-analyses. The results indicated that various home factors (e.g., family demographics, home literacy activities, language use, and parents' beliefs and motivations) were positively associated with young Asian children's English language abilities, literacy skills, phonological awareness, and interest in learning English. The roles of particular home environmental factors in children's English development may vary across different aspects of English development. The influences of family structure, home language use, and literacy environment tended to vary across sociocultural contexts and ethnic groups. Moreover, specific child- and home-related characteristics moderated and/or mediated the relationships between several home environmental factors and children's cognitive-linguistic abilities. Practice or Policy: The findings of this study highlight the significance of the home environment in the development of English as a second/foreign language for young children in Asia. These findings have important practical and policy implications regarding the design and implementation of culturally appropriate family-based English interventions in Asian contexts.

Background: Public awareness of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is lower than other neurodevelopmental disorders, despite its high prevalence of 7.6%. This lower awareness means recruitment for DLD research studies is difficult. DLD is both underfunded and under-researched, resulting in relatively limited research investigating individuals with DLD. Engage with Developmental Language Disorder (E-DLD) is a response to these considerations. E-DLD is the first international participant database of those affected by DLD. Parents of children with DLD under 16 and young people and adults over 16 from anywhere in the world can sign up to be a part of the E-DLD. Aims: This paper aims to describe the families of children with DLD and adults with DLD in the database thus far. Methods & Procedures: E-DLD members sign up via our website, reporting demographic characteristics as part of this procedure. We request all E-DLD members subsequently fill in a yearly survey. The content of the yearly survey changes dependent on the age of the child, while the yearly survey for adults remains consistent. We measure a wide range of domains, such as speech and language therapy (SLT) support, school support, socialisation skills, and early developmental milestones for our youngest members, and health care support and mental well-being measurements for our adults. We also collect parent and self-reported reflections on strengths and challenges for the person with DLD using open-ended questions and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Outcomes & Results: The database currently consists of 196 parents of children with DLD and 20 individuals over the age of 16 with DLD or suspected DLD across a range of socioeconomic status (SES) backgrounds. Our initial results confirm that E-DLD members meet the linguistic profile of DLD in relation to self- or parent-rated language difficulties. Both children and adults show increased rates of psychosocial difficulties compared to established norms, consistent with past research on clinical samples of people with DLD. Conclusions & Implications: The findings indicate that a participant database for DLD research is feasible and useful. The rates of emotional, behavioural and sleep difficulties among the child probands are higher than reported rates amongst typically developing children. Initial data indicate that adults with DLD have poorer well-being than their peers. The E-DLD is a useful collection of data on those affected by DLD and is a promising method for connecting people with DLD with academic researchers.

The coursebook-centered approach adopted by the Hellenic Open University's Master's program in TEIL/TEFL has lost momentum during the coronavirus lockdown periods. This study addresses synergies between institutional policy and involved participants through the experience of an EFL teacher with a Computer-Mediated Intercultural Communication-based assignment about the online archivability of teaching and learning reflections. Relying on her study journal, the EFL teacher proposed a reflection-based inquiry into the compilation of a student-generated coronavirus memory archive on the e-me digital platform. Three journaling spaces emerged in the context of teacher development: the physical, the digital and the academic archive. The results indicated the transformative effects that archival procedures have on the dominant training practices of a graduate-level TEFL program. This study holds implications for flipping a switch on the educator-educatee relationship, while examining how reflective teaching pedagogy assimilates the learners' creative response to remoteness.

The present study was conducted to investigate and confirm the efficacy of educational technologies that could facilitate reading and writing development (affordances). It also investigates and reports on problems with these educational technologies that could limit reading and writing development (challenges) in a technology-assisted language learning (TALL) environment. One hundred sixty-five Web of Science and Scopus indexed journal articles published between 2015 and 2021 on reading and writing development in TALL contexts were included in the study based on predetermined exclusion-inclusion criteria. Pedagogically, the findings inform language teachers who seek a better understanding of available tools, strategies and activities in TALL to facilitate reading and writing development. In addition, the findings shed light on future research trends and highlight the theoretical and pedagogical challenges that need to be addressed in future studies to overcome the reported limitations and problems.

Interest in the practice of gamification has grown rapidly in the field of education and training. Organisations implement gamification in various areas to boost employee motivation, including professional training. The present study comprises a systematic literature review on gamified professional training among employees. It was guided by the Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) 2020 checklist. The articles reviewed were obtained from three large academic databases -- Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed, with Google Scholar as a supporting database. The analysis revealed that most studies did not discuss gamified professional training from theoretical perspectives. Three main strategies for gamifying professional training were identified -- gamified professional training platform, blended gamified professional training, and face-to-face gamified professional training. It was found that achievement game elements were common in gamified professional training. The most frequent digital game elements were points/levels, leaderboards, challenges, and badges. Real-world rewards were also highly popular. Practical applications and research directions for researchers, instructional designers, and programme developers were then suggested to implement future gamified professional training.

Objectives: Automatic assessment systems are widely used to provide rapid feedback for students and reduce grading time. Despite the benefits of increased efficiency and improved pedagogical outcomes, an ongoing challenge is mitigating poor student behaviors when interacting with automatic assessment systems including numerous submissions, trial-and-error, and relying on marking feedback for problem solving. These behaviors negatively affect student learning as well as have significant impact on system resources. This research quantitatively examines how utilizing submission policies such as limiting the number of submissions and applying regression penalties can reduce negative student behaviors. The hypothesis is that both submission policies will have a significant impact on student behavior and reduce both the number of submissions and regressions in student performance. The research questions evaluate the impact on student behavior, determine which submission policy is the most effective, and what submission policy is preferred by students. Participants: The study involved two course sections in two different semesters consisting of a total of 224 students at the University of British Columbia, a research-intensive university. The students were evaluated using an automated assessment system in a large third year database course. Study Methods: The two course sections used an automated assessment system for constructing database design diagrams for assignments and exams. The first section had no limits on the number of submissions for both assignments and exams. The second section had limits for the exams but no limits on assignments. On the midterm, participants were randomly assigned to have either a restriction on the total number of submissions or unlimited submissions but with regression penalties if a graded answer was lower than a previous submission. On the final exam, students were given the option of selecting their submission policy. Student academic performance and submission profiles were compared between the course sections and the different submission policies. Findings: Unrestricted use of automatic grading systems results in high occurrence of undesirable student behavior including trial-and-error guessing and reduced time between submissions without sufficient independent thought. Both submission policies of limiting maximum submissions and utilizing regression penalties significantly reduce these behaviors by up to 85%. Overall, students prefer maximum submission limits, and demonstrate improved behavior and educational outcomes. Conclusions: Automated assessment systems when used for larger problems related to design and programming have benefits when deployed with submission restrictions (maximum attempts or regression penalty) for both improved student learning behaviors and to reduce the computational costs for the system. This is especially important for summative assessment but reasonable limits for formative assessments are also valuable.

It was aimed to review the effect of the use of augmented reality applications on the academic achievement of students in science education in this study. In line with this aim, the experimental researches reviewing the effect of use of augmented reality applications within the scope of science course on student achievement were evaluated with meta-analysis method. 16 studies included into this research were accessed from ERIC, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, SpringerLink, Taylor & Francis, Web of Science databases in line with certain criteria. In order to reach these studies from databases, the following key words were used: "'augmented reality' & 'achievement'" and "'augmented reality' & 'achievement & science'". "Funnel plot, Orwin's Fail-Safe N" and "Egger" tests were used for detecting the publication bias and it was determined that there is no publication bias. At the end of the meta-analysis, it was determined that the effect of the use of the augmented reality applications on the student achievement in the science course is moderate (d = 0,643) in favor of the experimental group. Thus, it was presented that the use of the augmented reality applications affects the student achievement positively in the science course.

The search for relevant scientific articles is a crucial step in any research project. However, the vast number of articles published and available online in digital databases (Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, etc.) can make this task tedious and negatively impact a researcher's productivity. This article proposes a new method of recommending scientific articles that takes advantage of content-based filtering. The challenge is to target relevant information that meets a researcher's needs, regardless of their research domain. Our recommendation method is based on semantic exploration using latent factors. Our goal is to achieve an optimal topic model that will serve as the basis for the recommendation process. Our experiences confirm our performance expectations, showing relevance and objectivity in the results.

Course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) can engage large numbers of students and provide a structured environment in which to learn valuable research skills. The ability to implement laboratory-based CUREs was hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic, generating a greater need for online options. A pilot study of an adaptation of a fully online cancer genomics CURE is described here. Students utilized freely available databases such as cBioPortal to develop novel scientific questions, generate and analyze data, collaborate with peers, and present their findings in an online environment. This format preserved the defining aspects of CUREs while promoting student ownership over their projects. Although the most common challenge was developing a hypothesis, students valued peer and instructor feedback throughout the process as well as flexible formats for communicating their research findings.

Writers and literature enjoy a prominent position in the culture and society of the German-speaking world. Today, German-speaking authors actively cultivate an online presence through publishers' websites, personal webpages, blogs, and online forums. In this way, the Internet has transformed the literary reading experience of yore into a four-skill media extravaganza. This engenders unrivaled access to the aural, textual, and visual environment in which literary texts reside, a multisensory world in which our students thrive. This essay proposes that audio and video files can fill the gap between how students read and how literature typically has been taught. By analyzing recordings of authors reading their work, performing their work, and being interviewed about their work available in online databases, radio podcasts, and video segments, students learn to access literary texts aurally. This expanded context can revitalize literature for the contemporary language classroom. Following a theoretical introduction about reading in the Digital Age, we present strategies for implementation in sample lesson plans. Our approach exemplifies how combining authorial voices with texts elevates reading to a multimedia experience that increases both listening and reading comprehension.

Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education aims to develop creative, broadminded, and inquisitive graduates who think critically. Critical thinking (CT) is conceptualized as purposeful, self-regulatory judgment involving thinking skills such as analysis, evaluation, and inference. This research, designed as an exploratory study, presents a theoretical digital curation (DC) model enabling a comprehensive pedagogical framework for developing and utilizing CT in a digital environment in higher education. The database was composed of digital collections created by undergraduate and graduate students (n = 94) from three Israeli universities. The research questions were: (1) whether and in what ways the engagement of students in the DC activity required CT, (2) whether a significant difference in the level of CT would be found between undergraduate and graduate students in the DC activity, (3) whether a significant difference in the level of CT would be found between students provided with instruction on DC before the DC activity and a control group that received no instruction. Factor analysis of the students' strategies produced 3 factors corresponding to evaluation, analysis, and inference that accounted for 75.34% of the total explained variance. These results suggest that as a pedagogical approach, DC can tap the key features of CT. Further statistical analyses showed that the graduate students had higher scores on evaluation than the undergraduates and that academic level and previous instruction in DC improved the quality of the DC. The factor that most influenced the quality of the digital curation was the analysis variable. Thus, DC can create a rich, active environment that promotes CT.

The application of the language proficiency scales (LPS) in education validates its function, as it can explore the value in-depth. However, little systematic research on applying LPS has been conducted due to the complex intertwining of stakeholders and a lack of theoretical framework and practical approaches. Adopting the framework proposed by Y. Jin and Jie (2020), this study explored how the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and China's Standards of English (CSE) were used and impacted various stakeholders in the education context. The literature search was taken from WoSCC, Scopus, and CNKI from 2018 to 2022. Qualitative content analysis was used for systematic review. Results showed that policymakers used LPS in education policy guidance; teachers applied them as the benchmark of diagnostic assessment to get accurate language profiles of students and create new approaches to teaching; students used them as goal-setting guidance and self- or peer assessment criteria to track progress; test developers aligned them with tests to obtain reliable results; curriculum designers tailored descriptors and scales from CEFR to develop new curricula, align, or revise the existing ones; researchers used LPS as references to develop new rubrics, frameworks and assessing models. This study could provide insight in scientific application of LPS. However, it focused mainly on the CEFR and CSE with a framework for exploring the impact of language testing. Studies containing more scales and theorizing the framework of aftereffects of LPS should be encouraged.

This study explores the trends of chatbots in education studies by conducting a literature review to analyze relevant papers published in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) journals by searching the Web of Science (WoS) database. From the analysis results, it was found that the United States, Taiwan and Hong Kong are the top three contributing countries or regions. In addition, most studies adopted quantitative methods in their research design, such as ANOVA (Analysis of variance), descriptive statistics, t test, and correlation analysis. ANCOVA (Analysis of covariance) was the most frequently adopted approach for comparing the performances or perceptions of different groups of students. From the analysis results, the greatest proportion of studies adopted guided learning, followed by no learning activities. It was determined that the studies related to chatbots in education are still in an early stage since there are few empirical studies investigating the use of effective learning designs or learning strategies with chatbots. This implies much room for conducting relevant research to drive innovative teaching in terms of improving the learning process and learning outcomes. Finally, we highlight the research gaps and suggest several directions for future research based on the findings in the present study.

Language teachers report having limited direct contact with research and research findings despite generally positive perceptions of research (Borg 2009; Marsden and Kasprowicz 2017; Nassaji 2012). Key reasons teachers give are 1) practical - a lack of time and access, and 2) conceptual - academic papers can be difficult to read (Plavén-Sigray et al. 2017). In turn, researchers worry their research is not (or does not need to be) relevant to pedagogy. This paper reports on one large-scale initiative to bridge some research-pedagogy divides: Open Accessible Summaries in Language Studies (OASIS; oasis-database.org). OASIS aims to facilitate interaction between research and pedagogy, by making research into language learning, language teaching, and multilingualism physically and conceptually accessible. The freely available, one-page OASIS summaries, written in non-technical language, provide information about what the study was about, its importance, what the researcher(s) did and found. Four major international journals now require authors to write these summaries, and many others encourage their authors to write them. We discuss how and why OASIS was established, how the initiative has been received, and how summaries have contributed to professional development activities. We also and highlight some of the challenges we have encountered and discuss future directions.

Educators across disciplines are implementing lessons and activities that integrate computing concepts into their curriculum to broaden participation in computing. Out of myriad important introductory computing skills, it is unknown which--and to what extent--these concepts are included in these integrated experiences, especially when compared to concepts commonly taught in introductory computer science courses. Thus, it is unclear how integrated computing activities serve the goal of broadening participation in computing. To address this deficit, we compiled a database of 81 integrated computing activities, constructed a framework of fundamental programming concepts, and scored each activity in the database for the presence of each concept. We also analyzed frequency and patterns of scores across different activity features, including discipline, programming language, student age, and duration of activity. Analysis showed that concepts which appear most frequently in integration activities largely did not align with concepts taught most frequently in introductory programming courses. We argue that our findings can inform the way teacher educators frame integrated computing activities for their students as well as the decisions they make when determining the types of computing integration activities they introduce to their students. We also discuss implications for treating integration activities as prior knowledge in introductory programming courses.

Since 2000, technology-enhanced L2 listening development (TELD) has been increasingly investigated. However, systematic reviews concerning the technologies, learning tasks, and outcomes of TELD remain limited. To fill this gap, we conducted a systematic review of publications from 2000 to 2022 on TELD from the perspectives of technologies, learning tasks, and learning outcomes. Forty-six articles from Web of Science were screened by predefined criteria and analysed based on a step-by-step procedure using the PRISMA framework. The findings revealed 13 types of technology and 19 learning tasks useful for TELD. TELD was effective both in terms of building listening skills and enhancing learner emotions. The studies showed that TELD supported learner interactions, encouraged active engagement, and augmented various learning tasks. Based on the findings, we developed a TELD model consisting of two parts: "Within cognitive systems," in which learners deal with cognitive schemata, listening strategy application, and listening practice via solid attention; "outside of cognitive systems," in which TELD can construct and reconstruct cognitive schemata, support listening practices, encourage and guide listening strategy application, and improve learner emotions and attention by providing learning materials and activities based on listening-related knowledge, listening exercises with feedback, prompts and feedback on listening strategy application, and a sense of enjoyment and comfort.

The financial system is a highly competitive field whose applications range from as big as the strategic vision and missions of the multinational companies to as small as day-to-day household expenditure decisions or management of pocket money by students. Financial literacy is a life skill that, in theory, is highly related to the well-being of individuals and companies. In the subject of financial literacy, there is a large body of literature, but very little to no knowledge on the trend and patterns of the literature and research advances in the body of knowledge. With the help of Scientific mapping analysis (SMA) and Bibliometric analyses, this study aims to declutter the literature in the field and find the future research direction in financial literacy. The study is carried out on 1000 documents from a 20-year time horizon (2001-2021), indexed on Web of Science. The study shows the publication trends, most relevant authors, journals, countries. The most significant, developing, and trending themes in the subject and the intellectual structure were investigated using keyword analysis. To better understand the social structure in financial literacy and well-being, co-authorship analysis was used.

Qualitative education is one of the key contributors in achieving the goal of sustainability. Several studies mention that the sustainability curriculum and educators can play an immense role in developing awareness in practicing the concept of sustainability. Relatively there is no comprehensive study to typify the recent contributions of teacher education for sustainability. In this light, the aim of the study is to understand the progress of the research on teacher education for sustainability (TES) in terms of growth, evolution, influence and significant research themes. To achieve the aim of the study, 1782 documents indexed in the Scopus database over three decades starting from 1991 to 2020 were analyzed by using bibliometric analysis. The data are visualized in the paper by using VOSviewer and Tableau. Results show that there has been a significant increase in yearly publications and citations over the years, trending research papers, productive authors, institutions and countries and thematic areas of research. Most frequently published journal has a considerable cite score and quartile. Universities from Australia published the most. The most commonly published themes are education for sustainability, Agenda 21, sustainable development education, environmental education, and later the focus is shifted to teacher training, teachers, education, values, teaching and education policy, sustainability competencies. Future research should focus on blended learning, digital learning, other modern tools and techniques to achieve the goal of sustainable development as well as to address the issue of teaching sustainability during uncertainty conditions.

Adaptive expertise has been promoted as an emerging model of expertise in health professions education in response to the inherent complexities of patient care; however, as the concept increasingly influences the structure of professional training and practice, it creates the potential for misunderstandings of the definition and implications of adaptive expertise. To foster a common understanding of the concept, we conducted a scoping review to explore how adaptive expertise has been discussed within health professions education literature. Five databases--MedLine, PubMed, ERIC, CINAHL, and PsycINFO--were searched using the exact term "adaptive expertise", producing 212 unique articles. Fifty-eight articles met inclusion criteria. In the included articles, authors discussed the conceptual implications of adaptive expertise for health professions education, strategies for training for adaptive expertise, and research findings aimed at supporting the development of adaptive expertise or utilizing adaptive expertise as a theoretical framework. The goal of this scoping review is to establish a resource for frontline educators tasked with fostering the development of adaptive expertise in learners through education initiatives. A common understanding of adaptive expertise is essential to ensuring effective implementation in training programs.

This meta-analysis aims to quantitatively synthesize the relation between the essential components of reading and reading comprehension in children whose first language is Spanish and who are learning to read in Spanish in a monolingual setting. Searches were conducted in WOS, Scopus, and ERIC from 2000 to 2021. We used a random effects model and Fisher's z as an index of effect size. We found 33 studies involving 146 effect sizes between the essential components of reading and reading comprehension. The essential components included phonological awareness, morphological awareness, alphabetic principle, fluency, vocabulary, and oral comprehension. Results of the meta-analysis revealed that (1) most studies have focused on understanding the relation between phonological awareness or alphabetic principle and reading comprehension, (2) the largest effect sizes were between phonological awareness and reading comprehension, and between fluency and reading comprehension, and (3) there is a large heterogeneity across studies which is explained, in part, by factors such as age, country where the study was conducted, and the reading comprehension tests used. Implications for practice and future research are discussed.

Case studies allow for in-depth exploration of multi-faceted issues found in real world information system development projects. The TheatreWorks of Southern Indiana case examines the requirements of a local community theatre group as it strives to incorporate and leverage database technology in a unique non-profit performing arts setting.

When referring to peace, peacebuilding, and peace education, among others, some similarities and differences among them appear. Although some consider ELT as a peripheral field regarding peace construction, diverse enunciation modalities profile this interest. Inquiring into "what, where, when and who," I analyzed 55 articles and 36 presentation abstracts for this qualitative study to unveil what is understood as peace construction in ELT. This revision presents six tendencies. Gaps and opportunities of research action for teachers are synthesized. Time/space coordinates of enunciation modalities in peace construction are displayed. I describe who the teachers behind some studies might be, regarding their locus of enunciation. Conclusion remarks around the diverse nature of peace construction are discussed, as representing those links between imagined separated fields.

The use of technology in education has become an urgent necessity and is no longer a luxury. This is evident through the attachment of students to their tablets, mobile phones, and other forms of various technologies. Therefore, educational institutions, especially universities and higher education institutions, must think according to the age variables and their requirements by providing interesting and attractive educational environments that suit the interests of students. In this context, several strategies based on the employment of modern technology have appeared in the educational process, perhaps the most prominent of which is called the flipped classroom. This paper aims to introduce a proposed model for employing databases in the flipped classroom learning environment at Saudi universities, based on the integration between database and instructional design models where the transition to a flexible and effective virtual learning environment suits the growing and changing needs of students; it also reviews the concept of the flipped classroom and its features in improving the teaching and learning process, as well as reviewing the database concept, its components, characteristics, and roles in developing the educational system.
