Interferon Regulatory Factor-8 (IRF8) is constitutively expressed in monocytes and B cell lineages and plays important roles in immunity to pathogens and cancer. Although IRF8 expression is induced in activated T cells, the functional relevance of IRF8 in T cell-mediated immunity is not well understood. In this study, we used mice with targeted deletion of Irf8 in T-cells (IRF8KO) to investigate the role of IRF8 in T cell-mediated responses during herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV-1) infection of the eye. In contrast to wild type mice, HSV-1-infected IRF8KO mice mounted a more robust anti-HSV-1 immune response, which included marked expansion of HSV-1-specific CD8+ T cells, increased infiltration of inflammatory cells into the cornea and trigeminal ganglia (TG) and enhanced elimination of virus within the trigeminal ganglion. However, the consequence of the enhanced immunological response was the development of ocular inflammation, limbitis, and neutrophilic infiltration into the cornea of HSV-1-infected IRF8KO mice. Surprisingly, we observed a marked increase in virus-specific memory precursor effector cells (MPEC) in IRF8KO mice, suggesting that IRF8 might play a role in regulating the differentiation of effector CD8+ T cells to the memory phenotype. Together, our data suggest that IRF8 might play a role in restraining excess lymphocyte proliferation. The CIGRE WG D1.03 has indicated the breakdown voltage of GIS with protrusion defect under standard lightning impulse (LI) voltage is significantly smaller than that under standard switching impulse (SI) or AC voltage, and LI withstand test is more efficient to find protrusion defect. The question is that whether the partial discharge (PD) inception voltage of protrusion defect under LI is also lower than that under standard switching impulse or AC voltage. In order to understand the relations between voltage waveforms and protrusion defect, three kinds of protrusion with different curvature radius are designed, namely, 0.025 mm curvature radius, 0.25 mm curvature radius, and 0.5 mm curvature radius, and the PD characteristics of protrusion defects are measured under four types of voltage waveforms (standard lightning impulse, standard switching impulse, oscillating switching impulse (OSI), AC voltage), and the influence of voltage waveforms on PD characteristics of protrusion is analyzed. The results indicate that, for protrusion with 0.025 mm curvature radius, the steeper the impulse voltage front is, the lower PD inception voltage of protrusion defect is, and PD under LI has higher detection sensitivity to protrusion compared with AC voltage and SI. While for protrusions with 0.25 mm curvature radius and 0.5 mm curvature radius, the steeper the impulse voltage front, the higher the PD inception voltage of protrusion defect is, and PD under LI has lower detection sensitivity of protrusion with 0.25 mm and 0.5 mm curvature radius compared to AC voltage. As PD exacerbated, the shape changes occur in the q−φ scatter plot, N−φ histogram under oscillating switching impulse voltage, and q−1 scatter plot and N−1 histogram under non-oscillating impulse voltage, which can be used as important criterion in assessing the severity levels of the partial discharge triggered by protrusion under impulse voltage waveforms. The problem of surface charge accumulation on gas-insulator interface is one of the critical factors for the development of DC Gas Insulated transmission Lines (GIL). In order to solve this problem, researchers have proposed a variety of mathematical models in which the volume conductivity of SF6 was assumed to be constant for calculating the distribution of surface charge. However, the conductivity of SF6 was inconstant, affected by electric field strength. In this paper, a gas model is developed, taking into account the generation, recombination and motion of charge carriers in SF6 of DC-GIL. The surface charge density and the electric field distribution on the insulator surface under DC voltage were simulated. Afterwards, the electric conduction through the volume of the insulator was proved to be the dominating accumulation mechanism. In order to improve the insulation performance, the influence of practical insulator shape on the electric field distribution in DC-GIL was studied. Three different shapes of insulator which were disc insulator, conical insulator and obtuse conical insulator were introduced and compared. Chromosomal telomere length shortens with repeated cell divisions. Human leukocyte DNA telomere length (LTL) has been shown to shorten during aging. LTL shortening has correlated with decreased longevity, dementia, and other age-associated processes. Because LTL varies widely between individuals in a given age group, it has been hypothesized to be a marker of biological aging. However, the principal basis for the variation of human LTL has not been established, although various studies have reported heritability. Here, we use a family-based study of longevity to study heritability of LTL in 3037 individuals. We show that LTL is shorter in older individuals, and in males, and has a high heritability (overall h 2 = 0.54). In the offspring generation, who are in middle-life, we find an ordinal relationship: persons more-closely-related to elderly probands have longer LTL than persons less-closely-related, who nonetheless have longer LTL than unrelated spouses of the offspring generation. IFN regulatory factor 8 (IRF8) is constitutively expressed in monocytes and B cells and plays a critical role in the functional maturation of microglia cells. It is induced in T cells following Ag stimulation, but its functions are less well understood. However, recent studies in mice with T cell-specific Irf8 disruption under direction of the Lck promoter (LCK-IRF8KO) suggest that IRF8 directs a silencing program for Th17 differentiation, and IL-17 production is markedly increased in IRF8-deficient T cells. Paradoxically, loss of IRF8 in T cells has no effect on the development or severity of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), although exacerbating colitis in a mouse colitis model. In contrast, mice with a macrophage/microglia-specific Irf8 disruption are resistant to EAE, further confounding our understanding of the roles of IRF8 in host immunity and autoimmunity. To clarify the role of IRF8 in autoimmune diseases, we have generated two mouse strains with targeted deletion of Irf8 in retinal cells, including microglial cells and a third mouse strain with targeted Irf8 deletion in T cells under direction of the nonpromiscuous, CD4 promoter (CD4-IRF8KO). In contrast to the report that IRF8 deletion in T cells has no effect on EAE, experimental autoimmune uveitis is exacerbated in CD4-IRF8KO mice and disease enhancement correlates with significant expansion of Th17 cells and a reduction in T regulatory cells. In contrast to CD4-IRF8KO mice, Irf8 deletion in retinal cells confers protection from uveitis, underscoring divergent and tissue-specific roles of IRF8 in host immunity. An effective two-level self-organizing map (SOM) neural network for direction of arrival (DOA) of sound signals estimation is proposed. The approach is based on the distance difference of arrival (DDOA) and a uniform linear sensor array in a 2D plane; it performs a nonlinear mapping between the DDOA vectors and angles of arrival (AOA). We found that the topological order of DDOA vectors and AOAs of same signals is uniform; thus, the topological order preserving of SOM network makes it valid to estimate AOA through DDOA. From the results of simulations and lake experiments, it is shown that the network has the advantage of accuracy and robustness, can be trained in advance, and is easy to implement. Background: The G protein-coupled receptor P2RY2 protein of the purinergic receptor family is involved in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Naturally occurring antibodies against P2RY2 (NAbs-P2RY2) are present in human plasma, with their clinical relevance in AD unknown.Objective: To explore the alteration of NAbs-P2RY2 in AD patients and its associations with biomarkers and cognition of AD patients.Methods: The levels of naturally occurring antibodies against the four extracellular domains of P2RY2 (NAbs-P2RY2-1, NAbs-P2RY2-2, NAbs-P2RY2-3, and NAbs-P2RY2-4) were measured in the plasma of 55 AD patients, 28 non-AD dementia patients, and 70 cognitively normal participants. The correlations of autoantibody levels with cognitive scale scores, AD plasma biomarkers, and brain amyloid burden were examined.Results: NAbs-P2RY2-1, NAbs-P2RY2-3, and NAbs-P2RY2-4 were reduced in AD patients. Plasma levels of NAbs-P2RY2-2 and NAbs-P2RY2-3 levels were positively associated with cognitive and functional performances. Among these antibodies, plasma NAbs-P2RY2-2 levels were positively associated with plasma amyloid-β 42 levels. While plasma NAbs-P2RY2-3 levels were negatively associated with brain amyloid burden in AD patients.Conclusion: These findings indicate an alteration of humoral immunity against P2RY2 in AD patients. Breast cancer is regarded as the leading killer of women today. The early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is the key to improving the survival rate of patients. A method of breast cancer histopathological images recognition based on deep semantic features and gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) features is proposed in this paper. Taking the pre-trained DenseNet201 as the basic model, part of the convolutional layer features of the last dense block are extracted as the deep semantic features, which are then fused with the three-channel GLCM features, and the support vector machine (SVM) is used for classification. For the BreaKHis dataset, we explore the classification problems of magnification specific binary (MSB) classification and magnification independent binary (MIB) classification, and compared the performance with the seven baseline models of AlexNet, VGG16, ResNet50, GoogLeNet, DenseNet201, SqueezeNet and Inception-ResNet-V2. The experimental results show that the method proposed in this paper performs better than the pre-trained baseline models in MSB and MIB classification problems. The highest image-level recognition accuracy of 40×, 100×, 200×, 400× is 96.75%, 95.21%, 96.57%, and 93.15%, respectively. And the highest patient-level recognition accuracy of the four magnifications is 96.33%, 95.26%, 96.09%, and 92.99%, respectively. The image-level and patient-level recognition accuracy for MIB classification is 95.56% and 95.54%, respectively. The role of α1 adrenergic receptors (α1‐ARs) signaling pathway in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) has rarely been investigated. Clarifying the pathophysiological functions of α1‐ARs in the AD brain is helpful for better understanding the pathogenesis and screening novel therapeutic targets of AD. This study included 2 arms of in vivo investigations: 1) 6‐month‐old female APPswe/PS1 mice were intravenously treated with AAV‐PHP.eB‐shRNA (α1‐ARs)‐GFP or AAV‐PHP.eB‐GFP for 3 months. 2) 3‐month‐old female APPswe/PS1 mice were daily treated with 0.5 mg/kg terazosin or an equal volume of saline for 6 months. SH‐SY5Y cell lines bearing human amyloid precursor protein were treated with terazosin or saline for investigating possible mechanisms. α1‐ARs knockdown mice exhibited improved behavioral performances in comparison with control mice. α1‐ARs knockdown mice had significantly lower brain amyloid burden, as reflected by soluble Aβ species, compact and total Aβ plaques, than control mice. α1‐ARs inhibitor terazosin substantially reduced Aβ deposition, attenuated downstream pathologies including tau hyperphosphorylation, glial activation, neuronal loss, synaptic dysfunction et al., and rescued behavioral deficits in APPswe/PS1 mice. In vitro investigation demonstrated that α1‐ARs inhibition down‐regulated BACE1 expression, and promoted ser9 phosphorylation of GSK‐3β, thus reducing Aβ production. Pathological examination is the gold standard for breast cancer diagnosis. The recognition of histopathological images of breast cancer has attracted a lot of attention in the field of medical image processing. In this paper, on the base of the Bioimaging 2015 dataset, a two-stage nuclei segmentation strategy, that is, a method of watershed segmentation based on histopathological images after stain separation, is proposed to make the dataset recognized to be the carcinoma and non-carcinoma recognition. Firstly, stain separation is performed on breast cancer histopathological images. Then the marker-based watershed segmentation method is used for images obtained from stain separation to achieve the nuclei segmentation target. Next, the completed local binary pattern is used to extract texture features from the nuclei regions (images after nuclei segmentation), and color features were extracted by using the color auto-correlation method on the stain-separated images. Finally, the two kinds of features were fused and the support vector machine was used for carcinoma and non-carcinoma recognition. The experimental results show that the two-stage nuclei segmentation strategy proposed in this paper has significant advantages in the recognition of carcinoma and non-carcinoma on breast cancer histopathological images, and the recognition accuracy arrives at 91.67%. The proposed method is also applied to the ICIAR 2018 dataset to realize the automatic recognition of carcinoma and non-carcinoma, and the recognition accuracy arrives at 92.50%. Gangwon-do (GWD) has complex terrain and surface characteristics due to its location to the East Sea and the Taebaek Mountain range. This coastal location and rugged terrain can amplify snowfall mechanisms, making it challenging to accurately predict the amount and location. This study compares two methods for assimilating radar data and analyzed snowfall prediction results. The two methods compared are local ensemble transform Kalman filter (LETKF) and three-dimensional variational (3DVAR) data assimilation (DA). LETKF improved the water vapor amount and temperature using the covariance of the ensemble members, but 3DVAR improved the water vapor mixing ratio and temperature through an operator that assumed the atmosphere was saturated when reflectivity was above a certain threshold. In 2018, to understand the snowfall in GWD region and support the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, a long-term heavy snow observation campaign was conducted. The International Collaborative Experiments for the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games Projects (ICE-POP 2018) data are used to study and verify the numerical experiments. From the initial field verification using ICE-POP observation data (radiosonde), wind in LETKF was more accurately simulated than 3DVAR, but it underestimated the water vapor amount and temperature in the lower troposphere due to a lack of a water vapor and temperature observation operator. Snowfall in GWD was less simulated in LETKF, whereas snowfall of 10.0 mm or more was simulated in 3DVAR, resulting in an error of 2.62 mm lower than LETKF. The results signify that water vapor assimilation is important in radar DA and significantly impacts precipitation forecasts, regardless of the DA method used. As bone marrow transplant (BMT) is gradually applied to the study of central nervous system (CNS) disease, it is needed to investigate the proper dose of chemotherapy to eradicate bone marrow cells while bringing little damage to brain. In the present study, we established a BMT model with varied busulfan and cyclophosphamide (Bu-Cy) dosages. The recipient mice's chimera rate, neuronal death, neuroinflammation, and behavioral functions were all investigated. Chimerism of peripheral blood cells was shown to rise with Bu-Cy treatment doses, with 60.7% in the Bu(20 mg/kg)/Cy(100 mg/kg) group and 93.0% in the Bu(35 mg/kg)/Cy(100 mg/kg) group. Recipients with Bu(35 mg/kg)/Cy(100 mg/kg) therapy had brain injury, increased neuroinflammation, diminished neurogenesis and cognitive abnormalities, whereas animals given a lesser dosage had no such brain damages. Conclusively, considering the chimerism and the possibility to damage brain, we recommend Bu(20 mg/kg)/Cy(100 mg/kg) is the ideal dose in BMT for studying CNS diseases in the C57/BL6 mouse strain. Objective: Variants in GBA are associated with Lewy Body (LB) pathology. We investigated whether variants in other lysosomal storage disorder (LSD) genes also contribute to disease pathogenesis. Methods: We performed a genetic analysis of four LSD genes including GBA, HEXA, SMPD1, and MCOLN1 in 231 brain autopsies. Brain autopsies included neuropathologically defined LBD without Alzheimer Disease (AD) changes (n = 59), AD without significant LB pathology (n = 71), Alzheimer disease and lewy body variant (ADLBV) (n = 68), and control brains without LB or AD neuropathology (n = 33). Sequencing of HEXA, SMPD1, MCOLN1 and GBA followed by ‘gene wise’ genetic association analysis was performed. To determine the functional effect, a biochemical analysis of GBA in a subset of brains was also performed. GCase activity was measured in a subset of brain samples (n = 64) that included LBD brains, with or without GBA mutations, and control brains. A lipidomic analysis was also performed in brain autopsies (n = 67) which included LBD (n = 34), ADLBV (n = 3), AD (n = 4), PD (n = 9) and control brains (n = 17), comparing GBA mutation carriers to non-carriers. Results: In a ‘gene-wise’ analysis, variants in GBA, SMPD1 and MCOLN1 were significantly associated with LB pathology (p range: 0.03–4.14 x10-5). Overall, the mean levels of GCase activity were significantly lower in GBA mutation carriers compared to non-carriers (p<0.001). A significant increase and accumulation of several species for the lipid classes, ceramides and sphingolipids, was observed in LBD brains carrying GBA mutations compared to controls (p range: p<0.05-p<0.01). Interpretation: Our study indicates that variants in GBA, SMPD1 and MCOLN1 are associated with LB pathology. Breast cancer (BC) is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer all over the world. Angiogenesis, a physiological or pathological process characterized by the sprouting of new blood vessels from existing vessels, plays a vital role in tumor nutrition. In this work, we used JSI-124 (Cucurbitacin I), a selective JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway inhibitor, to investigate the role of STAT3 in tumor angiogenesis of a human BC cell line in vitro. JSI-124 inhibited cell viability, proliferation, adhesion, migration and tube formation of a human BC cell line MDA-MB-468. After transfection with pMXs-Stat3C, a dominant active mutant, the inhibitory effects of JSI-124 on MDA-MB-468 were abolished. Furthermore, JSI-124 reduced the phosphorylation of STAT3. These results suggested that JSI-124 inhibited tumor angiogenesis of the human BC cell line in vitro through the reduction of STAT3 phosphorylation. In addition, JSI-124 could reduce VEGF transcription and secretion, suggesting that JSI-124 is also involved in the inhibition of the VEGF autocrine loop in the tumor microenvironment. In this paper, the hybrid composite of NiO quantum dots (QDs) ∼2 nm in diameter embedded in reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanosheets with an average thickness of 1 nm was synthesized by a one-pot facile wet chemical method. The cost was reduced using NiO instead of Ag NPs, and the embedded NiO QDs can prevent the rGO sheets from aggregation, maintaining their high surface area and active sites. The NiO-rGO composite was used as adsorbent for phage f2 and MS2, and the adsorption capacity could be up to 107PFU/mg with removal efficiency for MS2 up to ∼90 % in 30 minutes, while that for f2 up to ∼80% in 20 minutes. The composite also showed antibacterial properties towards E. coli. Paper disk diffusion assay, MIC and MBC tests revealed good antibacterial properties of the NiO-rGO composite. Pathogenic mutations in the three known genes - the amyloid precursor protein ( APP), presenilin 1 ( PSEN1), presenilin 2 ( PSEN2) - are known to cause familial Alzheimer's disease ( AD) and tend to be associated with early-onset AD. However, the frequency and risk associated with these mutations vary widely. In addition, mutations in the frontotemporal lobar degeneration ( FTLD) genes - the microtubule-associated protein tau ( MAPT), granulin ( GRN) - have also been found to be associated with clinical AD. Here, we conducted targeted resequencing of the exons in genes encoding APP, PSEN1, PSEN2, GRN, and MAPT in 183 individuals from families with four or more affected relatives, presumed to be AD, and living in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. We then performed linkage and family-based association analyses in carrier families, and genotyped 498 similarly aged unrelated controls from the same ethnic background. Twelve potentially pathogenic mutations were found to be associated with disease in 53 individuals in the five genes. The most frequently observed mutation was the p.Gly206Ala variant in PSEN1 present in 30 (57%) of those sequenced. In the combined linkage and association analyses several rare variants were associated with dementia. In Caribbean Hispanics with familial AD, potentially pathogenic variants were present in 29.2%, four were novel mutations, while eight had been previously observed. In this paper, a new lattice model for bidirectional pedestrian flow on single path which involves the effect of friction parameter is presented. Linear stability analysis is used to obtain the stability condition. The modified Korteweg-de Vries (mKdV) equation and time-dependent Ginzburg-Landan (TDGL) equation are deduced by means of the reductive perturbation method respectively. Further, the influence of the friction parameters upon pedestrian flow has been discussed. Our results also indicate that pedestrians moving along both directions uniformly are most stable. Background: Recent studies have shown that monocytes can phagocytize the tau protein, which may ameliorate tau-type pathology in Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, there are few clinical studies on the relationship between monocytes and tau-type pathology in AD patients.Objective: We aimed to explore changes in peripheral monocytes and their association with tau protein in AD patients.Methods: A total of 127 clinically diagnosed AD patients and 100 age- and sex-matched cognitively normal controls were recruited for analysis of the correlation of plasma tau levels with the blood monocyte count. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples from 46 AD patients and 88 controls were further collected to analyze the correlation of CSF tau and amyloid-β (Aβ) levels with the blood monocyte count. 105 clinically diagnosed mild cognitive impairment (MCI) patients and 149 age- and sex-matched cognitively normal controls were recruited from another cohort for verification.Results: Compared to normal controls, AD patients showed a significant reduction in the blood monocyte count. In addition, the monocyte count of AD patients was negatively correlated with CSF t-tau and p-tau levels but not with plasma tau levels. In normal people, monocyte count lack correlation with tau levels both in plasma and CSF. Monocyte count were not correlated with CSF Aβ levels in either group but were negatively correlated with CSF tau/Aβ42 levels in the AD group. We had further verified the correlations of monocyte count with CSF tau levels in another cohort.Conclusion: This study suggests that monocytes may play an important role in the clearance of tau protein in the brain. The reduction of hexavalent uranium to tetravalent uranium is an effective strategy for controlling uranium contamination in wastewater. Herein, a C C bonded metal-covalent organic framework (Cu-TMT) was synthesized via the Aldol condensation reaction by using the metal cluster Cu 3 (PyCA) 3 and 2,4,6-trimethyl-1,3,5-triazine (TMT) for the chemical and photocatalytic synergistic reduction of uranium. In the Cu-TMT, the low-valent Cu in the metal clusters provides the framework with numerous distributed redox sites being capable of chemically reducing UVI. Meanwhile, the encapsulating Cu clusters in long-range ordered frameworks can provide fast transport channels for intramolecular charge transfer and effectively inhibit electron/hole complexation, making Cu-TMT suitable for photocatalytic reduction of uranium. The chemical reduction of uranium by Cu-TMT was verified under light-avoidance conditions, reaching 659.5 mg g−1. After exposure of Cu-TMT to light, the amount of reduced uranium further increases to 1438.8 mg g−1 with 98.1 % removal rate of actual uranium containing wastewater. This study not only expands the range of applications of variable valence metal covalent organic frameworks, but also provides unique insights into the effective combination of chemical and photocatalytic reduction strategies for removing UVI in a single material. Background: Few studies of gene variants that affect estrogen activity investigate their association with age at onset of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in women of different ethnicities. We investigated the influence of ESR2 polymorphisms on age at onset of AD in a multiethnic cohort of women. Objectives: To determine whether gene variants would affect risk for AD differently in women of different population ancestries. Methods: Among 1,686 women participating in the Washington Heights Inwood Columbia Aging Project (WHICAP), association with risk for AD was assessed for 20 ESR2 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) using multivariate logistic regression, adjusting for age at time of study enrollment, presence of an APOE ε4 allele, years of education, and body mass index. Results: Increased risk for AD was associated with four ESR2 SNPs in women of predominantly Caucasian AIMS-defined ancestry: rs944045, rs1256062, rs10144225, and rs2274705 (OR range 1.6-1.9, empiric p-value range 0.002-0.004). A separate SNP (rs10137185) was associated with decreased risk for AD in women who identified themselves as Black (OR 0.6, 95% CI = 0.4-0.9). When vascular risk factors were included in the model, a separate SNP (rs1256059) was associated with increased risk for AD in women of admixed/Hispanic ancestry (OR 1.5, 95% CI = 1.1-2.4). Conclusions: ESR2 polymorphisms affect risk for AD in women, and risk alleles vary by AIMs-defined ancestry and self-identified ethnicity. The radioactive ion U(VI) and organophosphorus pollutants in sewage do great harm to the ecological environment and human health. Bifunctional photocatalyst MOF525@BDMTp was prepared by in-situ covalent bridging method, and U(VI) and chlorpyrifos (CP) were removed by one-to-two strategy. MOF525@BDMTp had high carrier migration performance and conformed to the type-II heterojunction. Under light conditions, electrons were transferred from MOF525 to BDMTp due to the action of the built-in electric field, increasing the electron density of BDMTp and thus activating the U(VI) binding sites. BDMTp interacted with S and N atoms in CP to promote its hydrolysis and oxidation by h+ and ·O 2 -. Thus, MOF525@BDMTp guaranteed the simultaneous reduction of U(VI) on BDMTp and the oxidation of CP on MOF525. Therefore, designing functional integrated composites is an effective means to improve the photocatalytic performance of composite materials in complex environments. This study employed the surface- and core-functionalized colloidal microbubbles (O 3 _CMBs) to simultaneously capture and inactive the viral bio-colloids from waters. The results denote that more than 3.00-lg removal of the model viruses was reached in 3 min or even shorter time. The Al(III)-coagulant modifier worked as "tentacles" on the bubble surface and confined the efficient virion capture on the gas–liquid interface, hence, the O 3 _CMB treatment could be different from the commonly-known microflocculation of colloids in the traditional ozone-involved coagulation process. Ozone encapsulation tests combined with continuous flow chemiluminescence online analysis further demonstrate that O 3 _CMBs performed outstandingly in holding up ozone in the liquid matrix and could continuously generate reactive oxygen species (i.e., O 3 , O 3 •-, O 2 •- and •OH) within the contact time between O 3 _CMBs and virions. The integrated capture, inactivation and separation process retained steady performance in a wide pH range and at extremely high salinity (i.e., 35 ‰) thanks to the bi-functionalization and mass transfer of the microbubble system. The protein-like and humic acid-like natural dissolved organic matter was found to be removed along with viral bio-colloids though the co-existing organic matter interacted and competed with viruses for O 3 _CMBs. With the increasing thermal challenges of electronic equipment, topology optimization of heat sinks has aroused great research interest in recent years. However, most related researches deal with heat transfer problems of the laminar flow. Only several papers deal with heat transfer problems of the turbulent flow which exhibits better heat dissipation capacity. This paper intends to demonstrate the topology optimization of turbulent forced convective heat sinks with a computational-cheap multi-layer thermofluid model. Based on the assumption of a hydrodynamically fully developed turbulent flow, a single-layer flow model is derived from the 3D turbulent flow model. Viscous effects in the out-of-plane direction are modeled as the additional terms in the derived momentum and transportation equations. Similarly, based on the assumption of adaptive temperature profiles in the out-of-plane direction, heat fluxes between adjacent layers are modeled and a multi-layer heat transfer model is constructed. Further, the porosity field is introduced to describe the channel's topology and the corresponding topology optimization scheme is presented. Topology optimizations of a heat sink for coil-cooling are carried out to reduce the average temperature rise of the heat source under a maximum volume fraction constraint. The accuracy of the multi-layer model is evaluated via 3D thermofluid simulation of optimized and reference designs. Topology-optimized heat sinks exhibit better thermal performance and provide up to a 32.39% reduction of the average temperature rise, compared with the reference designs. Abstract: A second order semilinear differential inclusion with some boundary continuous and impulse characteristics in a separable Banach space is considered. Some existence theorems for mild solutions are given, when the multivalued nonlinearity of the inclusion is only a locally integrably bounded upper-Carathéodory map with convex and weakly compact values. Then the compactness of the set of all mild solutions for the problem is proved. The results are obtained by using the theory of continuous cosine families of bounded linear operators and a fixed point theorem for multivalued maps due to Agarwal, Meehan and O’Regan. The present paper deals with the numerical solution of time-fractional partial differential equations using the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method, which is based on the moving least-square approximation. Compared with numerical methods based on meshes, the EFG method for time-fractional partial differential equations needs only scattered nodes instead of meshing the domain of the problem. It neither requires element connectivity nor suffers much degradation in accuracy when nodal arrangements are very irregular. In this method, the first-order time derivative is replaced by the Caputo fractional derivative of order α (0 < α ≤ 1). The Galerkin weak form is used to obtain the discrete equations, and the essential boundary conditions are enforced by the penalty method. A series of phosphine oxide (PO) hosts based on diphenylphosphine oxide and spiro[fluorene-9,9′-xanthene] (SFX) moieties, SFX2PO, SFX27PO, SFX2′PO, and SFX2′7′PO, were designed and synthesized. On the basis of the different electrical properties of xanthene and fluorene in SFX, the influence of substitution position on the chemical and optophysical properties of the ambipolar-core based systems were investigated in detail. The effective strategy of introducing electron-withdrawing PO moieties in electron-deficient moieties in the molecules accompanied with suitable linkages insulating the electron-rich and -deficient moieties was convincingly demonstrated, which can endow the hosts with much better carrier injecting and transporting ability and high enough T1for blue and green phosphors. As the results, the operating voltages of the devices based on SFX2PO and SFX27PO were much lower than those of the devices based on SFX2′PO and SFX2′7′PO. Simultaneously, the efficiencies of the SFX2PO based devices were about twice of those of the devices based on SFX2′PO and SFX2′7′PO. We suppose that it is not necessary to achieve too high T1 and improved electron injection through PO moieties at the cost of sacrificing the hole injecting ability of the chromophores. Abstract: In this paper, an extended car-following model considering the delay of the driver’s response in sensing headway is proposed to describe the traffic jam. It is shown that the stability region decreases when the driver’s physical delay in sensing headway increases. The phase transition among the freely moving phase, the coexisting phase, and the uniformly congested phase occurs below the critical point. By applying the reductive perturbation method, we get the time-dependent Ginzburg–Landau (TDGL) equation from the car-following model to describe the transition and critical phenomenon in traffic flow. Neuronal or photoreceptor deficit observed in uveitis and multiple sclerosis derives in part from inability to control inflammatory responses in neuroretina or brain. Recently, IL-27 was found to play a role in suppressing experimental autoimmune uveitis and experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, two animal models that share essential pathological features of human uveitis and multiple sclerosis, respectively. However, the mechanism by which interleukin-27 (IL-27) inhibits central nervous system (CNS) inflammation is not clear. In this study we have investigated mechanisms that mitigate or curtail intraocular inflammation (uveitis) and examined whether inhibitory effects of IL-27 are mediated locally by neuroretinal cells or by regulatory T cells. We show here that microglia cells in the neuroretina constitutively secrete IL-27 and its expression is up-regulated during uveitis. We further show that photoreceptors constitutively express IL-27 receptor and respond to IL-27 signalling by producing anti-inflammatory molecules, IL-10 and suppressor of cytokine signalling 1 (SOCS1) through signal transducer and activator of transcription 1 (STAT1) -dependent mechanisms. Moreover, STAT1-deficient mice produced reduced amounts of IL-27, IL-10 and SOCS1 and developed more severe uveitis. Surprisingly, IL-10-producing regulatory T cells had marginal roles in suppressing uveitis. These results suggest that suppression of intraocular inflammation might be mediated through endogenous production of IL-27 and IL-10 by retinal cells, whereas SOCS proteins induced by IL-27 during uveitis may function to protect the neuroretinal cells from the toxic effects of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Targeted delivery of IL-27 into immune privileged tissues of the CNS may therefore be beneficial in the treatment of CNS inflammatory diseases, such as uveitis and multiple sclerosis. • A new neolignan and a new biphenylpropanoid isolated from the leaves of Cupressus funebris Endl. The type of biphenylepoxypropanes are rarely found in natural sources, we are fortunate to have obtained a pair of enantiomers and analyzed them by circular chromatography. The antioxidant experiments showed that due to the difference of the stereochemistry, the antioxidant activity of cis is significantly stronger than that of trans. A new neolignan, (-)-(7 S , 8 R)-3‑methoxy-4', 7-epoxy-8, 5'-neolignane-5, 9, 3', 9′-tetraol (1) and a new biphenylpropanoid, 1, 2-epoxy-1-(3', 4'-dihydroxyphenyl-)-3-(2'', 3'', 5''-trihydroxyphenyl-) propane (2), together with eight known compounds (3-10), were isolated from the 95% EtOH extract of the leaves of Cupressus funebris Endl. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic methods including NMR, circular dichroism (CD) spectra and comparison of the NMR data with reported in references. The antioxidant activities of all compounds were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP methods. Compounds 2 (IC 50 : 33.98 ± 0.11 μM), 3 (IC 50 : 32.97 ± 0.63 μM), 8 (IC 50 : 32.07 ± 1.57 μM), and 9 (IC 50 : 33.30 ± 2.29 μM) showed stronger DPPH free radical scavenging activity than l -ascorbic acid (IC 50 : 64.31 ± 1.32 μM). Except for 4 , the other compounds showed ABTS radical scavenging abilities comparable to l -ascorbic acid (54.91 ± 1.18 μM) with the IC 50 ranged from 24.42 ± 1.78 μM to 138.70 ± 13.58 μM. Abstract: In this paper, an integrated probe card is proposed and developed for wafer-level IC testing. Based on micromachining technology, totally about 26,000 cantilever-tip probes can be formed simultaneously in one 4-in. silicon wafer, with the minimum pitch of 35μm for adjacent probing tips. The probe card is designed with a novel composite structure that combines both single-crystalline silicon and electroplated metals. In the composite structure, a novel bypass through-silicon-via with a low aspect ratio can be high-yield fabricated for transferring the testing signals from the probing sided (at the wafer bottom side) to the I/O interface (at the front side). The probe card makes full use of the advantages of the single-crystal silicon and the electroplated nickel and copper. Bulk micromachined silicon cantilevers behave uniform probing height and a good elastic deformation property, while the electroplated nickel probing tips promise high hardness and satisfactory electric contact performance with the dies-under-test (DUT). Measurements show that the fabricated cantilever is able to withstand a contact force of 80mN by a tip displacement of 20μm. The measured contact resistances on metal pads (Al, Cu, and Au) are all below 1Ω, whereas the maximum current leakage is 64pA for 3.3V voltage across two adjacent tips. After a probing reliability test of 100,000 cycles, the cantilever-tip shows no sign of any performance degradation. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A series of complicated 9,9-diarylfluorenes (CDAFs) with highly thermal and morphological stability, end-capped oligothiophenes (T) n (PF) m (n =1–3, m =2) and triphenylamines TPA(PF) m (m =1–3), were synthesized via BF3·Et2O-mediated Friedel–Crafts reaction. TPA(PF)2 with bulky 9-phenylfluorene moieties (PFMs) as a morphological stabilizer possesses excellently amorphous solid state with a glass transition temperature (T g) up to 140°C and no T g was observed for TPA(PF)3 with high decomposition temperature up to 499°C. Preliminary characterizations of typical double-layer devices with the configuration of ITO/TPA(PF)3/AlQ3/Mg:Ag show luminance efficiency of ca. 2.25cd/A at 100cd/m2 with a maximum brightness of ca. 8300cd/m2. Benefiting from the hierarchical structure of the covalent organic polymer and synergistic effects originating from hydroxyl groups and imidazole linkages, TpDAB, BdDAB, and HbDAB displayed as the promising adsorbents for uranium extraction with high extraction ability and fast capture kinetics. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy results revealed that both nitrogen atoms in imidazole and oxygen atom in hydroxyl took part in uranium coordination. With the increasing of hydroxyl group amounts, TpDAB achieved highest extraction capacity of uranium. Furthermore, TpDAB with imidazole affinity group possessed eminent selectivity for uranium in the multiple metal ions solution, and especially overcome the unavoidable problem of vanadium interfering with amidoxime adsorption uranium. We report the first example of vinylene-linked covalent organic framework (Tp-TMT) with enhanced uranium adsorption through combined selective ligand binding, chemical reduction and photocatalytic reduction. The dense hydroxyl functional groups on the Tp-TMT framework had good selectivity and excellent chemical reduction performance for U(VI). Meanwhile, the synergistic effect of hydroxyl groups and triazine unit significantly enhanced the photocatalytic reduction activity. The effect of cryogenic and heating treatment on the solution properties of rigid polymer nitrocellulose (NC) in dilute tetrahydrofuran solution were studied with a sealed viscometer and a size exclusion chromatograph (SEC), respectively. The experimental results show that the relative viscosity of NC solution decreases after repeated freezing-thawing treatment. The decreased viscosity value of NC could not be restored but decreased further after the solution being re-heated. The experimental results of SEC are fully consistent with that of viscosity measurements. It is believed that the effect of two treatments on NC solution both causes the apparent hydrodynamic volume to decrease. But they are assumed to be ascribed to different mechanisms. This paper investigates the topology optimization of planar cooling channels using a low-cost multilayer thermofluid model. A novel three-layer model including the upper/lower cover-plate layers and the central solid-fluid mixing layer is proposed. The flow boundary layer effect and the heat transfer effect in the thickness direction are modeled as the flow coupling and thermal coupling effects between adjacent layers, respectively. Particularly, in order to estimate more accurate temperature fields, the constructed three-layer heat transfer model in the solid-fluid mixing channel is derived based on the assumption of adaptive temperature profiles in the thickness direction. Further, based on the three-layer thermofluid model, the porosity field is introduced to describe the channel's topology, and the corresponding topology optimization scheme is presented. Several optimized channels under different constraints and boundary conditions are shown and discussed in comparison. Optimized channels show streamlined boundaries and reasonable layouts and exhibit competitive heat dissipation performance. Parametric studies are conducted to analyze the effectiveness and reliability of the topology optimization scheme. Further, to evaluate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed three-layer model, optimized channels are simulated with the full 3D model and previous low-cost models. With the increasing dissipated power levels of electronic equipment, heat sink design problems are significant aspects of some industrial design fields. Topology optimization theory has attracted much research interest in thermal-fluid problems to design high-performance heat sinks. These researches focus on optimizing the internal flow channel of heat sinks under predefined inlet and outlet schemes. However, inlet/outlet schemes also exhibit great influence on the performance of optimized heat sinks. This paper intends to demonstrate a concurrent optimization method of the internal flow channel, inlets, and outlets in forced convection heat sinks. The porosity field and moving morphable components (MMCs) are adopted to describe structural topologies of the internal channel design domain and the inlet/outlet design domains, respectively. The internal porosity field and the shape/position parameters of MMCs are applied as design variables. A conventional inlet/outlet component is presented and the corresponding topology description transformation function is constructed to convert the inlet/outlet topology into corresponding porosity fields. Further, the thermal-fluid coupling problems are solved through porosity-interpolated fluid flow and heat transfer governing equations. To ensure accurate inlet flow and temperature conditions during the topology iteration, continuous design-dependent inlet governing equations are established under inlet pressure, velocity, and flow flux boundary conditions. Design variables are concurrently optimized based on the sensitivity information. The proposed method is shown in detail by taking design problems of water-cooled heat sinks as examples. Due to the complex underwater environment and the selective absorption and scattering effect of water on light waves, underwater images often suffer from issues such as low contrast, color distortion, and blurred details. This paper presents a stable and effective algorithm for enhancing underwater images to address these challenges. Firstly, an improved color correction algorithm based on the gray world and minimum information loss is employed to remove the blue-green bias present in the images. Secondly, a contrast enhancement algorithm is based on the guided filter and wavelet decomposition to make the texture details of the image clearer. Then, the normalized weight map of the image is obtained to carry out multi-scale fusion. Finally, the fused image is applied to perform the multi-scale decomposition. A record high zT of 2.2 at 740 K is reported in Ge0.92Sb0.08Te single crystals, with an optimal hole carrier concentration ≈4 × 1020 cm−3 that simultaneously maximizes the power factor (PF) ≈56 µW cm−1 K−2 and minimizes the thermal conductivity ≈1.9 Wm−1 K−1. In addition to the presence of herringbone domains and stacking faults, the Ge0.92Sb0.08Te exhibits significant modification to phonon dispersion with an extra phonon excitation around ≈5–6 meV at Γ point of the Brillouin zone as confirmed through inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements. Density functional theory (DFT) confirmed this phonon excitation, and predicted another higher energy phonon excitation ≈12–13 meV at W point. These phonon excitations collectively increase the number of phonon decay channels leading to softening of phonon frequencies such that a three‐phonon process is dominant in Ge0.92Sb0.08Te, in contrast to a dominant four‐phonon process in pristine GeTe, highlighting the importance of phonon engineering approaches to improving thermoelectric (TE) performance. Stimulus-responsive optical polymers, especially gels, are enabling new-concept energy-transducing "smart" optics. Full exploitation of their molecule-derived tuning and integration with traditional micro/nano-optics/optoelectronics rely on the implementation of devices by advanced "intelligent" micro/nano-manufacturing technologies, especially photolithographies with wide compatibility. In light of the increasing need for an organic combination of smart optical materials and digital micro/nano-manufacturing, novel "smart" optical micro-switches, namely, stimulus-actuated Mach–Zehnder interferometers as a proof-of-concept demonstration, were prototyped with protein-based hydrogels via aqueous multiphoton femtosecond laser direct writing (FsLDW). Protein-based Mach–Zehnder-interferometric smart optical devices here display a morphological quality sufficient for optical applications (average surface roughness ≤ ∼20 nm), nano-precision three-dimensional (3D) geometry of these millimeter-scale devices and purposely structured distribution of photo-crosslinking degree. Moreover, the device configuration was customized with unbalanced branches in which meticulous stimulus-responsive ability can be realized by simply tuning the surrounding chemical stimuli (i.e., Na2SO4 concentration here). The "heterogeneous" configuration with unbalanced branches (i.e., different optical and stimulus-responsive features) exhibits as-designed "smart" switching of propagated near-infrared light (∼808 nm). These capabilities, along with total biodegradation, indicate the application promise of this gel-based optic construction strategy towards novel "intelligent", bio/eco-friendly, self-tuning or sensing photonic integrated systems like optofluidics. Uranium is a key resource for the development of the nuclear industry, and extracting uranium from the natural seawater is one of the most promising ways to address the shortage of uranium resources. Herein, a semiconducting covalent organic framework (named NDA‐TN‐AO) with excellent photocatalytic and photoelectric activities was synthesized. The excellent photocatalytic effect endowed NDA‐TN‐AO with a high anti‐biofouling activity by generating biotoxic reactive oxygen species and promoting photoelectrons to reduce the adsorbed UVI to insoluble UIV, thereby increasing the uranium extraction capacity. Owing to the photoinduced effect, the adsorption capacity of NDA‐TN‐AO to uranium in seawater reaches 6.07 mg g−1, which is 1.33 times of that in dark. The temperature distribution on the gas-insulated line (GIL) spacer affects surface charge accumulation. However, the spacer temperature distribution is hard to measure because the conventional electric sensors are large dimensions, hard to multiplex, and sensitive to electromagnetic interference (EMI). In this article, a distributed temperature measurement system of GIL spacer based on the optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) was developed to solve the problems. In this system, ultraweak fiber Bragg grating (FBG) was adopted to replace single-mode fiber due to its higher signal-to-noise ratio. The demodulation method was described for compensating the nonlinear frequency tuning errors induced by the unstable tunable laser. In addition, the relationship between the spacer temperature and the wavelength shift was determined in the calibration experiment. Moreover, the temperature distribution on a 126-kV GIL spacer was measured by the proposed OFDR system. The data processing method for 3-D surface temperature on cone-type spacer was also introduced. High-resolution temperature distribution on the spacer surface was successfully obtained using OFDR system, which is unable to accomplish with the conventional electric temperature sensor. A newly identified IncRNA designated as RP11-284P20.2 has been identified to be up-regulated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but its role in HCC remain poorly understood. Quantitative PCR and immunocytochemical analysis were performed using the HCC tissues to identify the potential interaction partners of RP11-284P20.2. Moreover, RP11-284P20.2 was knocked down in HCC cell lines, HepG2 and SMMC7721, to investigate the influence of this lncRNA on cell growth properties. Additionally, RNA fluorescence in situ hybridization and immunofluorescence, RNA immunoprecipitation, and RNA pull-down assays were performed to determine the interaction of RP11-284P20.2 with c-met mRNA and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 3b (EIF3b). Silencing RP11-284P20.2 inhibited cell viability, migration, invasion, and colony formation, and increased apoptosis. Overex-pression of c-met abolished these effects of RP11-284P20.2 in HCC cells. Histopathologi-cal examination showed that HCC tissues with high RP11-284P20.2 expression had higher c-met protein level than that in HCC tissues with low RP11-284P20.2 expression. However, there was no positive correlation between the expression levels of RP11-284P20.2 and c-met mRNA. RP11-284P20.2 knockdown led to a decease in c-met protein expression level, but did not affect the c-met mRNA expression level. These data suggest that RP11-284P20.2 regulates c-met protein expression level, which is independent of c-Met mRNA expression level. It was also confirmed that RP11-284P20.2 has high affinity toward both c-met mRNA and EIF3b protein, and hence RP11-284P20.2 probably recruits EIF3b protein to c-met mRNA and further facilitates its translation. RP11-284P20.2 promotes cell proliferation and invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma by recruiting EIF3b to induce c-met protein synthesis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
